    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/198856/hows-your-experience-with-matchmaking

Mine has been awful as always, though it does seem worse the last day or 2.

Since rank 10 as killer I was put up against full meta loadout rank 4+ survivors; and as survivor it used to be the opposite where I was red rank playing against rank 8-10 killers and it was no fun as it felt like cheating.

Last night though there was a rank 4, 9, and 2x 8s against a rank 1 killer Dowsey who is a streamer who makes DbD guides; needless to say these sort of matches were over in minutes and survivors get steamrolled due to poor play on our part.

I play solo so it’s not due to partying etc.

I saw a similar match play out with the streamer Jaee, and he was doing a SWF who like him, were all red ranks (mostly rank 1). The Killer however was only rank nine. Needless to say it didn't work out so well for the Killer.

I honestly don't even know what to expect anymore. They need a matchmaking system that is killer focused and not survivor focused.

  • The last match I played my rank 14 killer went up against all red ranks. The downside here is that this game is set up to throw any killer regardless of rank into a match so that the survivor queue times are shorter.

It's bad enough this game doesn't teach you how to play, but it's even worse if you're new and have no one to play with.

  • The god awful matchmaking is what ruins it for me every time. Last week I played a killer match, and my level 14 killer went up against all red ranks. To make matters worse, this was the day after rank reset so most likely they were all originally close to, if not already rank 1. And why do things like this happen? Because the game will throw any killer into any match regardless of rank so that survivor queue times are shorter.

  • The grind has gotten so bad that they really need to have double blood point weekends, because the Tome challenges don't cut it anymore. I've been upgrading The Blight, and it's crazy to think that despite being near level 50, I only have maybe a quarter of the total amount of perks unlocked for him.

I only have a few hours each day to play games, and playing a game like DBD has been a nightmare. Say what you will about matchmaking and the bugs (spoiler: they're bad!), but the grind is just too much.

  • Hopefully the MMR will be fixed and encourage more people to play.

  • I'm on playstation and I've never had my game crash, but not being able to select a new killer is the least of this game's problems. But locking down the killer you selected was originally tied into the MMR, since it gauges each killer you play with individually.

What Dead by Daylight not scary, its frustrating. And the wrong type of it. Its not like a game where I fail something and retry it, being more motivated to complete it. Dead by Daylight just sucks out any motivation you have for playing the game. There's literally no game out there that increased my heart rate by pressing Ready as Killer.

God I could not agree with this more! So many times I've fired up dead by daylight, and I'll be in the killer menu with my perks ready to go, but then I'll be reminded of all the sweaty, try hard, poor matchmaking matches that I've had as of late, and I'll instead turn off the game and watch other people play it instead. No other game has made me so apprehensive to press the play button. 😕

The simple truth is that unless you have hours upon hours to invest into dead by daylight, it's not worth your time. I only continue to play it because it can be a fun game to play with friends, but playing killer or solo survivor is just terrible. After 4 years the dedicated player base is comprised of mostly people that have been with DBD since the beginning, and in all this time there has never been a proper matchmaking system, which to say after 4 years it's really starting to show, as it's yielding some of the worst matches players have ever experienced.

  • Either full invisibility or make one of his movement speed add-ons included in his base kit. Wraith should be able to move faster when cloaked.

  • The perks and Pyramid Head changes that will be implemented with the mid chapter update has not gone live yet. The MMR is also not back on yet, and matchmaking is still a hot mess. So really you haven't missed anything aside from the new killer and survivor.

While I know a lot of people may not care I still want to put out my feelings and opinions on something. After months of stressful and boring gameplay I am officially leaving the game and possibly the forums until some change happens, if it ever does. On the killer side I find games too stressful to try and even play for fun I have to sweat constantly a lot. On survivor I find it too boring with it being a loading screen simulator. If they fix the major issues at some point I will possibly come back, but with how the developers seem to work I don’t see that happening. So after two years this is my goodbye to all of y’all and may things get better for those that remain to play before it becomes too late. Goodbye 🥺🥺

As another gamer mentioned, you'll be back. Why? Because we all come back to DBD sooner or later. When the game fires on all cylinders it can be a blast play, but you are absolutely right about this game's health being a detriment to the overall fun factor.

One of the main questions brought up in a recent stream was whether or not BHVR would focus a chapter to game health, because their audience realizes that there's a lot that needs to be addressed with dead by daylight. After four years there continues to be a plethora of bugs that arise with every chapter, meaning that the core mechanics of the game need addressing. Not to mention DBD has one of the worst matchmaking setups of any game in recent memory. Experienced players are expected to compete against newer and casual players far too often, which always leads to someone not having any fun and quitting the game for good. Admittedly if it weren't for the friends that I play DBD with, I would have stopped playing a long time ago.

Someone mentioned in a different discussion that BHVR appears to be milking DBD for as much as they can before gamers are done with the game for good. I used to think that was a silly notion, until you realize that there are a plethora of suggestions and inquiries from the DBD audience that still have not been addressed: practice/single player mode, new multiplayer modes, fair and balanced matchmaking, resolving bugs and glitches, etc.

I for one would love to see new modes, because as cool as it is to see new killers, it doesn't change the fact that you're still doing the same damn thing you've been doing for years - survivors work on gens and killers chase the survivors, rinse and repeat.

I also wouldn't mind a single player mode. The developers of Friday the 13th not only incorporated a single player mode, but they also incorporated a single player mode with objectives. In a way it was kind of like a quasi story mode. I would love that for DBD, or perhaps a single player mode like what we had with Twisted Metal but utilized in the DBD universe.

  • Matchmaking and RNG ruins the fun for me personally. Because there are far more survivors than there are killers, DBD will throw any killer into any match regardless of rank, which always ends up ruining the fun for those that are less experienced.

I'm rank 14 in killer myself, but lately all I keep getting are red rank survivors. Everything's a sweat fest lately and I'm tired of it, so I stopped playing.

  • I think Friday the 13th outclassed DBD in every way. Not only did the devs add single player objectives, but much more would have been added if it weren't for the ongoing lawsuits that has Jason tied up in litigation.

  • For me it's simple, either allow him to get to Evil Within faster, or remove the stalking cap with survivors. Survivors don't run out of "stalk" with Ghostface, or blood orbs with Oni, so why Myers? Myers is the only killer that actually has a cap put on his power, which doesn't make any sense to me.

Even a little change like being able to activate evil within three when I want to activate it would be a nice touch.

Just had a couple of games that very much ended like this:

Due to match making I (rank 17/16) got a few high ranks (upper purple and red) as Deathslinger. I'm in no way good, but in all these matches I got several hooks in and at least one of the high ranks kicked the bucket.

And each time due to one very odd thing:

Their unwillingness to change their tactics.

Now, we all already knew that's the issue, but today I had the most bizarre experience:

Red ranked Kate, I chase after her (one of the wrecker maps, the one with the small house), she tries to loop me. I'm not having it. I know what I can pull off and what not.

So I turn away. Usually survivors go on their merry way then... but the kate came after me. Very much demanding I chase her.

Again, I wasn't having it. I knocked down a jake, hooked him, and the kate stood there not helping (another jake got him off the hook)

Long story short, I hit her when she came close, shot and hooked her. She suicided on hook after I walked away (dunno if she tried to unhook herself or not).

It really seemed as if she was offended cause I didn't let her loop me.

And judging by the forum and twitter, the playstyle like that kate's is what people deem 'fun'. Why?

A rank 16/17 killer having to face purple and red rank survivors is one of the reasons I hate playing killer. DBD will throw killers into matches regardless of their rank, which guarantees to ruin the fun for those that are less experienced.

The other day my rank 14 killer was matched against four red rank (4) survivors. This happened the day after rank reset which means that they were all originally rank 1. This is why I prefer to watch people play DBD instead of actually playing DBD. The unbalanced matchmaking will ensure that someone always has a lousy time.

I guess Where I'm going with this is that I'd rather dbd cut down on rng stuff before they try and implement an mmr system.

I would certainly appreciate less RNG in the bloodweb, that's for sure! Having to grind millions upon millions of blood points just so that I can get the perks that I want is one of the worst things about this game.

What a bunch of ungreatful little shits you are. Especially the one who has to make a complain video to get some views because he can not deliver relevant content. Embarrassing.

Nice constructive commentary you got there.

You completely missed the point that the OP was making. He wasn't complaining about what was being given, but HOW it was being given. Maybe next time read through the post a few times before jumping down someone's throat with a knee-jerk reaction.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

My biggest issue with MMR is that survivors and killers often lose to map RNG. It's so wild to me that we're leaving an RNG system in place that often leaves half of some maps completely barren or completely loads them with jungle gyms while also implementing MMR. Really putting the cart before the horse. What are the survivors supposed to do when the killer gets a 4 gen on one side of Azarov's with one pallet on half of that end of the dogbone? Let's make sure we tabulate MMR on that one.

It's interesting isn't it? We keep getting things like new cosmetics and new graphical updates, but nothing that changes the core mechanics of the game itself. It's like all we ever get is a never-ending supply of Band-Aids instead of an actual fix. How else to explain all the glitches that arise with every chapter implementation?

  • @megswifey said:

I'm rank 5 and I've been put in teams with brown and green ranks recently and it messes up the game because a lot of the time my teammates are not sure what to do and the generators are frequently left untouched

It's results like these that make me wish there was a single player mode of sorts. Granted it wouldn't be as competitive as playing with actual people, but if I'm just looking to have some fun, then it would be nice to have a training mode of sorts like what can be found with the mobile version of DBD.

  • @MadLordJack said:

I'm one of the few people that actually had a good experience with MMR, though I know the majority didn't. I was getting games, as killer and survivor, that were decent. It did start out a bit wierd, but it was all right at the end. So I'm actually hopeful that the fixed MMR system will actually work.

I too had a positive experience. Since it gauged killers that you played with, it encouraged me to try out killers that I had never played with before, since I was guaranteed to not be wrecked over and over. I won't be doing that again until it's back on.

  • @Babyyy_Boyy said:

So first off I want to say that yes, I understand that rank reset just happened but this has been an issue for quite sometime now and is why I think no one enjoys playing this game now a days. As someone who plays both sides equally but enjoys survivor more, matchmaking makes me want to take breaks from this game. I used to ONLY play swf matches back then and now I only play solo at the moment but let me tell you, it's not fun getting paired up with teammates that are far from your rank along with an experienced killer as you feel you are the only one doing good in chases, knowing where to go, how the map works etc. And as for killer it's also not fun going against ranks significantly lower than you at all. Some might say "well be glad they're not a red rank swf squad" or something among those lines but that's not the point. I really wish the devs would look into matchmaking because if it continues like this Idk what to do, game is getting so stale. Also don't make fun of my rank lol, I know rank reset hit yesterday but as you can tell I clearly play this game and mostly this game ALOT lol,

    IMG_20201013_220148__01.jpg

I feel you're pain. Matches like this are happening far too often with me. I want to keep playing killer, but not with a matchmaking setup like this.

  • Given that Myers is a standard m1 killer, I never understood why each survivor only has a limited amount of stalk. Survivors don't run out of stalk from Ghostface, nor do they run out of blood orbs when being hunted by Oni. But for some reason Myers is given a cap on how often he can use his power.

Myers has slow mobility, no map pressure, and no anti-loop potential. The only way to counter any of that is to get to tier three Evil Within. And knowing that Myers can only do that once or twice with each survivor is baffling to me.

My problem with this is that there is a lot of rng in dbd from gen/tile spawns and map selections to how many pallets there are and what killer/perks that are in the game that I honestly don't think it will be possible to get an accurate rating of a players skill.

I think you're half right. As with all things, experience does play into how well you are at something, and obviously the more hours you can invest into a game the better you'll be. That being said, not everybody is a streamer. Most people don't have hours upon hours to invest into DBD. And that's where rng plays a part.

Perks and map layout can certainly aid both killers and survivors, but if anything I think the MMR should cater more to what "rank" a killer is. If you have a lot of wins piled up with certain killers, then it makes sense to go against tougher opponents with those said killers. I play only occasionally with Bubba, and the fact that I went up against such high ranking survivors makes me never want to try out a killer that I have never played with. Ever.

  • @EuphoricBliss35 said:

When I play at night, ranks look like the rainbow. Last night (8pm-11pm) I had multiple games with 2-3 yellow ranks matched with me. Not a problem most of the time, but when going against a rank 1 killer, it just turns into getting multiple saves

Yeah those rainbow setups are usually intentional. SWF will utilize the lowest rank in the group as a way to get easy wins since matchmaking has a tendency to cater to the lowest rank. Which is why I think that if the MMR detects a SWF, then they should be purposefully matched against a higher ranked killer.

What I encountered last night however, didn't make a lick of sense. No joke, I would really like to play more killer matches, but knowing that DBD will throw any killer regardless of rank into a match, turns me off of the game altogether.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I think the largest issue with MMR is that it either:

    • assumes people are robots and always play at their MMR level
    • is elastic and allows for disproportionate matchups

Robots lead to burnout and elasticity leads to stomps/too easy.

Yeah I just don't know how this is going to work out. It had been a while since I played a killer match, and when I hopped on last night and encountered that ridiculous matchmaking setup, it may have very well turned me off of the game altogether.

  • @lowiq said:

DC Penalties don't fix the core issue as to why people are DCing in the first place.

Exactly. Last night my rank 14 Killer was matched against an all red, rank 4 SWF (who are most likely really rank 1 due to reset).

Needless to say it didn't work out well for me. I didn't DC, but damn if it wasn't tempting.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Almo stated that the MMR continues to calculate all the wins and losses in the background so that it can appropriately predict how well it needs to apply to each player. But given how inconsistent the matchmaking is already, how accurate and precise of an MMR can there possibly be?

I clearly don't have faith in the current matchmaking system, and I don't see how anything will change once the MMR goes live again if the current matchmaking system is what it has to work off of.

  • I decided what the hell I'll play a killer match. I haven't really played any since the MMR was turned off...and this is what I was greeted to tonight. This is why there is a dwindling killer base, and why I took a break. I've always been a casual DBD player so my rank was never that high, but the devs should be absolutely embarrassed with a matchmaking system like this.

I too think I'm done with the game for good.

    IMG_20201013_220148__01.jpg

  • After four years DBD really needs some new modes. Personally I'm waiting until the MMR is back up and running before tackling killer again. The matchmaking is too unbalanced without it.

  • Honestly, play the way you want to play. Let no one tell you how you should be getting enjoyment out of your game.

That said, face camping is going to do far more harm than good the higher the ranks get. Not only does it give other survivors ample time to finish generators, but you'll walk away with a pitiful amount of bloodpoints for essentially doing nothing.

It's very easy to acquire bloodpoints as the killer, and if you're really new to the game, you're going to want as many bloodpoints as possible. So I would recommend play the game normally, which in turn will improve your skill and net you more bloodpoints.

  • If two people disconnect during a match, then everyone left standing should at least be guaranteed a safety pip. Falling in ranks because players quit which prevented you from getting anything done is ridiculous.

  • @Heartbound said:

Run the brown add on Shattered Monocle until you've got the game sense to know where you'll land. It helped me out a lot at first.

You're still a standard speed killer, so you don't have to try some 400IQ lethal rush play just to win. If you're not feeling confident, just don't rush. That said, Blight's power is central to his character. The more you rush, the more comfortable you'll get using it.

Some players have figured out how to cut survivors off in loops with Blight's power. It can be done. In my personal casual experience with Blight I like to bump into a wall with my right or left shoulder, then dash at them until I catch up and down them. It's really simple and a hit is a hit.

You'll grow on your own, but don't beat your head against a wall if you fail a few times. That's Blight's job.

Thanks. I'm a casual DBD player, as I don't have hours upon hours to invest into any game. I know the original MMR wasn't perfect for everyone, but it worked out well for me. The best thing about it was that it gauged how often you played with each killer, so if there was a killer you hadn't played with before, you weren't going to be matched against a high-ranking swf. And for a casual player like myself, that's a nice thing to have.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1676891#Comment_1676891

To clarify what I meant was just don't m1 the obsession. Not to only use chainsaw on that one person. Chainsaw attack any time you can effectively. It just helps to buff his m1 recovery which people don't expect.

Ok, that makes a lot more sense.👍

  • @voorheesgt said:

Don't chainsaw attack in tight loops. The speed gained makes it tempting but you'll hit something and tantrum until you get really good with it. Tinkerer is great as you can get fairly close before charging your saw. People will naturally run into tight corridors when they here your saw, use this to bait them into places you can body block then use the saw. Also STBFL is a good perk for him just use saw on the obsession. The m1 recovery after 8 tokens makes him terrifying.

Using tinkerer with trail of torment is a good combo too, and I would encourage that over save the best for last. Bubba isn't a traditional m1 killer. His chainsaw is his power, and if you were to discourage using his power for all but the obsession, then it defeats the purpose of using Bubba.

  • For every survivor that disconnects you should get 25% towards a pip. Meaning that if two people DC, you should be guaranteed a safety pip. Throwing in even more blood points wouldn't hurt either.

  • @GhostyyBoi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1675707#Comment_1675707

My main struggle is anti looping with the saw.

My build is BBQ, Enduring, Bamboozle, and Pop. Build advice would be helpful.

I don't have a lot of perks on him.

That's a good build. Windows are Bubba's biggest weakness, so having bamboozle is almost a necessity with him. But since the rework, his chainsaw seems to have a bigger hitbox than it did before, so my advice would be to not get too close when looping a survivor around a tree or wall. Bubba's reach with the chainsaw goes a lot farther than you think it will.

  • As others have already stated, dead by daylight desperately needs a practice mode. The tutorial is a joke as it barely scratches the surface of what survivors and Killers need to know.

To be perfectly honest the only reason I stuck with this game is because I had friends to play with, and if it wasn't for them teaching me the ropes I would have dropped this game like a bad habit. The last thing I want to do is to be thrown straight into matchmaking on a game that doesn't teach you how to play, or give you the tools necessary to practice. At the very least games like call of duty have a single player mode that you can warm up with before jumping online to compete against other players. It's a shame DBD can't say the same.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

I love Surveillance and I reckon that it's one of the most underrated perks in the game as no survivors expect it.

Thing is though that you need to be kicking generators if Ruin goes down, or even more than usual if you're running Pop. Not necessarily a bad thing if the survivors don't recognise what's going on.

Better than Discordance in my opinion!

Surveillance is definitely a great perk, but I think you hit the nail on the head as to why some people don't run it. Personally I prefer discordance over surveillance simply because like you said, I have to be kicking generators in order to activate it. And if I approach a generator that a survivor runs away from, I would prefer to chase after the survivor because kicking the gens just gives more time to the survivors to escape.

  • I think you touched on one of the biggest frustrations with dead by daylight. As anyone who plays this game knows, it has horrible matchmaking, and as such it's incredibly punishing for newer and casual players. For years the community has asked for a training mode like what the mobile counterpart has, but BHVR keeps saying that it's not a priority.

The fact that newer players have to turn to streamers to teach them how to play the game and be better at the game is one of dead by daylights biggest failings. The game should come with the tools necessary to teach anyone to play, but it doesn't. Sure you can create a custom game provided you have the friends necessary and available to do so, otherwise your SOL.

  • Honestly imo you're better off using bamboozle. Windows are Bubba's biggest weakness, and being able to cut off access to repeated loops can be a big advantage for a chainsaw killer. Plus you vault 15% faster which is always nice.

  • @Hex_Llama said:

I feel like Empathy gets undervalued, but maybe it's more helpful to me because I'm solo queue. Your teammates usually get injured while they're being chased, so it can let you see where the chase is happening, and move around accordingly.

I personally like empathy too. Sometimes I like to play the "medic" on my team so I'll run an appropriate build that suits that.

    Spies from the Shadows!

From what I’ve read on the forums, Whispers seems to be far more popular than Spies, which I why I posted about it on this thread. I’ve tried Whispers a few times, but could never get much value from it. Prolly just my play style, but Spies works so much better for me!

    I like Spies because:

    • It helps you pinpoint where survivors are (as opposed to Whispers which just gives you an area to search in.)
    • If they mindgame you and run off in a different direction from where you’re looking, the birds can redirect you.
    • If they run through a bunch of birds, it’s almost as good as seeing auras as you can literally watch the progression of their movements.
    • Survivors don’t seem to even realize or care that they’re scaring crows most of the time. Even if not being chased, they’ll walk right past multiple crows which can alert you to a lurker.
    • If you’re lucky enough to get Hawkins while you have Spies equipped, well...... 😈 Let’s just say it gives scratched mirror Myers a run for his money!
    • Its highly versatile in seeking, chasing, mind-gaming, and maintaining an overall higher situational awareness (Like if another is nearby to try a flashlight save, for example.) To this point, I see Whispers as only helping with seeking.

Anyway, that’s it off the top of my head, though there have been a great many situations that it’s been vital for me!

Spies definitely has value, but there are some levels where the crows are few and far between, which is why I like Bloodhound. Nothing like bright neon splotches to lead you directly to a survivor's location!

I think the other question I’ll be curious on is what they’re planning for ranks. They said a while back they’re keeping ranks in the game for something like a future reward system even though they’re not going to be used for matchmaking (which is the whole reason ranks are in the game in the first place). I imagine they’re probably getting somewhat close to being able to say more about that by now, whatever their intention is.

It makes more sense for ranks to be used for rewards than matchmaking. Thanks to rank reset every month, all anyone has to do is stop playing for a few months and your rank drops all the way back to 20, which is as far from a balanced matchmaking system that you can get.

  • @Slashstreetboy said:

The Killers that are propably the most in need of serious buffs would be Trapper, Clown, Myers and Pig. Since the MacMillan Estate Realm is about to go live with its graphics overhaul, I have just a little bit of hope Trapper will get buffed. At the same time, the Holiday is right around the corner, and what better time to update Myers to modern standards than Halloween?

If neither of them gets buffed hard within the month I´ll be honest I´m gonna be severely disappointed.

The next Killer to recieve "slight addon changes" like Nurse or Billy? Who knows. Maybe a CD before Huntress can reload, it seems she can spam her power too much and nobody complains about her except for Iri heads. /s

Myers definitely needs a buff to either his movement speed or the rate he gathers Evil Within. I would also be fine with allowing survivors to be stalked more before running out. Because once that happens Myers becomes useless.

Personally I would vote for Wraith. He is by far the weakest Killer as he desperately needs a speed buff while cloaked. They should just make one of his speed add-ons base kit.

An interesting side note the devs mentioned in a Q&A was that since the MMR system is all on the back end and doesn’t require a client side patch it can be turned back on any time the devs want, it doesn’t have to synchronized to a mid-chapter or full chapter release.

Huh, that is interesting. Almo did say that the MMR was a priority, so I'm sure they'll "flip the switch" when it's ready.

  • @Smiler said:

Stake out because I sneak a lot as survivor and Bloodhound so the scratchmarks can't ######### me up.

Bloodhound is definitely underrated. It completely counters sneaky survivors with iron will.

Personally I've always liked Small Game. Knowing where totems are always located is a huge advantage, especially now that Ruin+Undying are now considered meta.

For Killers I usually hate using totems since it's so high risk, high reward. But it's hard to deny how valuable Whispers and BBQ can be. Personally I love Enduring. With that perk I no longer have to be afraid of respecting pallets.

  • Unless the MMR is unexpectedly activated, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets turned on roughly at the same time that the mid-chapter update goes live.

  • I honestly don't think Legion needs a new status effect. Legion works well enough being able to spread damage among survivors, but the way his power is executed is what needs changing.

Specifically the cancelling of his power on a missed attack. I'm fine with the power being canceled, but having to rebuild the power from scratch doesn't make any sense. Can you imagine if that mechanic was applied to other killers like Oni or Ghostface? It would be downright infuriating. Because it doesn't feel like a nerf, it feels like a punishment. And if you're new to Legion, it can make sticking with Legion nigh near impossible.

I hope its back soon, I found a much more balanced game as killer when they rolled it out the first time. Not easy wins but no facestomp losses either. Most games felt like it was anyone's game rather than 2 min snowball in either direction.

Same. I know not everyone had that same experience, but one of the highlights about the MMR was that it gauged how often you played with a certain killer. So if you played with a killer you never played with before, you weren't immediately matched against a high ranking sweaty swf. Personally I would love to try out Ghostface and the Blight, but at the rank I'm at (12) I tend to be matched against red and purple rank survivors. In other words, no one near my skill level.
