I'm trying to learn how to play doctor at rank 7, and it is one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had in this game. Not only am I getting stomped every game with maybe 1 hook, but gens are flying so fast that I get no more than 5 minutes to even practice per match. I know people say rank doesn't matter, but all I'm being paired with (at least tonight anyway) are rank 1-3's, more than likely some swf groups considering how coordinated they're playing. I just need all the help I can get lol
I feel your pain more than you know. I'm rank 11, and I recently decided to tackle Nurse for the first time. It has hands down been the worst experience ever! Trying to get blinks down while being expected to compete against purple and red rank survivors makes this game unbearable to play. DBD desperately needs a practice mode!

I can relate to this, I have every character at level 50 with all teachables and I won't be able to find the time to do it again.
Same. Which is also why I haven't prestiged any character. Prestiging should allow you to unlock the perks that you want, or at the very least unlock nothing but tier 3 perks.
-
Yeah I never understood why disconnecting was still allowed during the PTB. I get why that feature is needed for live matches, but the PTB serves no real purpose other than to test out new content for possible bugs or glitches.
If gamers aren't going to take the PTB seriously, then they either need to be given a heavy disconnect penalty, or be refused to disconnect in the first place.

Don't forget PC! I moved from Xbox and I need it so bad. The grind is so much worse than it was when I started its absurd.
There are so many perks between killers and survivors that it makes obtaining the perks that you want almost impossible without spending millions upon millions of bloodpoints. I don't have that kind of time. Between working and parenting, I only have a few hours a day to play a game, and the last thing I want to do with that time is grind.
-
It's your game just as much as it is theirs. Play with whomever you want, and turn off messages, you'll be happier that you did.
And kudos for getting good with Deathslinger. I just started playing with him, and being expected to compete while you practice is brutal (especially with a gun with no reticule!).

I want that to happen as well. that way I don't have to buy any DLC twice if I want to use it on one or the other like I've had to up till now
Now that the next-gen consoles are here, cross-progression for the big consoles is more needed than ever!
-
@Iceman said:
@SweetTerror If you have Game pass you don't need to buy it twice.
True which is nice, but I was simply referring to all of the cosmetics and killers that I already have purchased on PS4.
-
These next-gen ports were supposed to bring with it 4K visuals and 60fps. But another glitch? I guess it wouldn't be DBD if it didn't work properly.🙄
I play on PS4 but would like to play on my new Xbox Series X too. Considering this is the grindiest game ever though, I'll wait until cross progression is initiated because there's no way I'm buying this game twice.

For me if a survivor turns into a tornado while I’m in frenzy I just step back and let them finish a spin, then attack.
Best thing to do is come from the side instead of behind since it’s easier to land a hit
Never thought about that before. I'll have to try it!

A better matchmaking system has long been requested for DBD. The game currently balances matches by rank, but even the devs themselves admitted that rank doesn't always indicate skill which is why you can sometimes see a rank 17 with maxed out perks from other survivors and/or killers.
The DBD audience also wants a practice mode, because currently the only way to test out new killers or new mechanics is to compete which can make learning difficult Killers like the nurse or deathslinger almost impossible. And if we're never going to see a practice mode, then we need an adequate matchmaking system.

It's not that people THINK its licensed. Its that people HOPE its licensed. Until Dawn is one of the most requested chapters in DBD history, top 5 at least.
Yeah until dawn is right up there with supernatural. Plus one would think that with BHVR having just released an original killer, that the next one would be a licensed killer. But we'll know in a few weeks!
-
Game licenses clearly cost less than movie licenses so I don't think it's far-fetched at all to think that it wouldn't be until dawn. Not only do you have a killer that you have survivors that would fit really well into DBD.
-
One of the best suggestions I heard was to have decisive strike last indefinitely, but if the survivor should start doing anything else (working on generators, cleansing totems, etc) then decisive strike deactivates.
Decisive strike was always meant to be an anti-tunneling perk so I say let's make it just that.

Do you not remember Freddy's tease? It was literally a rusty pipe and then 4 scratch marks appeared on it. It was a dead giveaway. Not to mention Pyramid Head where his head was literally front and center.
I came on board after Freddy and right before Silent Hill. I know the number four was in the shape of Pyramid's Head but that's all I remember.
-
@Hex_Stalk said:
Possibly not, Wendigo isn't exclusive to Until Dawn. Not to mention that if it was a license they would have done a much better job at teasing it aside from a hand
Teasers are meant to tease. If we saw any more it would have been looked upon as a full-on reveal.
And true Wendigos are not exclusive to until dawn, but that is a universe that would fit really well in DBD.
-
I'd say Ghost Face since he's just a dude in a mask. BHVR gave him his power since he technically doesn't have one.

To get the ball rolling:
Don’t shoot survivors across a dropped pallet as you won’t be able to down them, instead shoot them from the edge of the loop. That way whichever side you shoot them on, you can go round and down them.
If you are on console, sometimes it is easier to aim near the survivor then sidestep to get them into your view
Monitor and abuse lets you take advantage of his quiet terror radius.
Fake that you are going to shoot them, wait for the juke then basic attack. Shoot them while they run away (especially if you have STBFL)
Appreciate the tips. Yes I'm on console so obviously a joystick isn't going to be as precise as a mouse. I know if I stick with it I'll get better, I just hate that I have to get stomped repeatedly while I learn the basics.
-
Bueller?
I guess the lack of response is another way of saying, "Stop playing Deathslinger". 😄
-
[insert dev MMR statement] "The MMR is coming. It's a priority, and we will turn it on when it's ready.".
Truthfully I hope they're right about the MMR. I hope it does work this time, because the terrible matchmaking is one of the reasons why this game has such a hard time acquiring new players. And when you factor in the massive grind and the high entry level for practicing since there's no training mode, makes sticking with DBD almost impossible.
-
@ScreamingFeng said:
I'm all for it. Can't see what exactly keeps the PC version from having something like Mobile has. Way less stressful and helps build up confidence.
Exactly. Obviously real people are going to perform better than bots, but when you have real people juking all over the place, it makes learning the basics with huntress and deathslinger almost impossible.
-
@kaeru said:
You are not wrong. Offline practice mode would be less stressful.
But you still can practice with real people. Yes, you will lose couple of ranks, not a big deal. Practicing in real environment is more productive. More skillful players you get, more their tricks you will learn. And then you figure out how to deal with them. Bots and static targets will never teach you as real players.
Otz said something very similar in a recent video he uploaded to YouTube. He was playing Pyramid Head on DBD mobile, and it blew him away that a practice mode has still not been implemented into DBD proper. He acknowledged that the only way to get better is to practice against real people, but having a worry free practice mode to help you with the basics is something he said should exist.

I also think it should be made consistent with cancelling his power and how Oni cancels his power.
I think that makes perfect sense. Trying to land a hit with a console joystick on a survivor that is using a mouse can be very difficult, and subsequently losing the whole FF can feel incredibly punishing.
-
Honestly, all I want is to not have to recharge FF from the very start upon a missed attack. It's not that hard to juke a Legion player, and having your special meter deplete completely on an attack that isn't fatal is rather pointless.
But I digress, nice rework!
-
I've been having good results with Corrupt, Pop, M&A, and BBQ on Pyramid Head. It pretty much covers everything you need. It slows down the start of the game while allowing you to get closer to survivors. You also have the best gen regression perk in the game, and BBQ lets you know where survivors are.
If you want to be particularly dirty, swap out monitor for iron maiden. 😉

I agree, October has game’s highest peak players in its history at 77k+. It’s doing fine.
To be fair though, the Halloween events have always brought gamers back to DBD. BHVR also incorporated the first blood hunt in God knows how long which is enough to bring back casual gamers, not to mention they paid Ninja a small fortune to play the game for his millions of followers which also resulted in more players. DBD also had free play weekends which also drove up those numbers.
Everything that the DBD player base continues to complain about is still very much present in the game: bugs, glitches, poor matchmaking, no training mode, lack of gameplay modes, etc. These are the very things that stopped people from playing in the first place, and unless things change for the better, you'll see these numbers from October fall quite drastically.

@JawsIsTheNextKiller said:
If you feel burned out now, the next level of the Tome is out tomorrow!
Yeah, but that doesn't really do anything for me. Sure it rewards me with blood points for completing challenges, but it's the core mechanic of playing survivor that is wearing thin. Pressing a button to complete a generator, a totem, to heal, etc, has run it's course with me.
-
@lowiq said:
When you start to get to a point where things stagnate in the game, try playing for the memes / challenges.
Learn a difficult killer like Nurse which is really rewarding. Or follow the killer around with a beamer and try to make meme plays.
If the mentality is to win / only do objectives then you'll start to burn out.
I've actually started to do that! I started playing with three killers I hadn't dared to touch in the past, and it has helped to spice things up. But these days I only touch survivor if I'm playing with friends, because otherwise I find it so incredibly boring.
-
Yeah as others have stated there is a bad latentcy problem, but hitboxes still need more fine tuning. Last week I was playing against Bubba on Leary's, and I vaulted a window whilst being chased. Bubba went into a tantrum upon hitting the window with his chainsaw, but it was the tantrum that downed me. Don't know what it looked like on the killer's end, but on my end it was literally window...tantrum...hit.
TBH I've kind of given up on DBD working flawlessly. The devs seem more interested in creating content than fixing their game.
-
I play Pyramid Head too, and I run M&A, Corrupt, Pop, and BBQ. Corrupt can make a world of difference, especially with M&A which allows me to get closer.
-
@OBX said:
The killer ones (especially the offering) were so useless. I was finishing my p3 clown and now have a total (combining the 2) of 97 that are pointless. That is the equivalent of 291,000 blood points gone into the ether. Bhvr really did a bad job thinking this through.
Actually I found the serum to be useful on killers that don't specialize in fast movement. See someone across the map with barbecue? Not a problem since you can use the serum to dart over there.
But I digress, the amount of blood points that we're losing on the items that are about to be taken away is not only frustrating, but knowing that the survivors can still cling to some items but Killers can't cling to anything at all is confusing.
-
@PlzDontStabMe said:
Unfortunately no. Their 'intention' is everyone stops using normal offerings and only uses event stuff during events, but that doesn't ever happen lol.
That's so annoying. The only reason why I have so many is because I had no choice but to buy it in order to get access to other things I wanted. And now that that's going to be taken away, it's just frustrates me even more.
-
@lowiq said:
Corrupt Intervention and Ruin / Undying. Use one or both.
Also don't try to go for a 12 hook game. You'll lose if you try to play too nice.
Corrupt is a great way to prevent multiple gens from popping at the start. I run M&A, Corrupt, POP, and BBQ on Pyramid Head and it does wonders. M&A also allows you to get closer than you normally would.

I mean despite what some people say, BHVR do listen to what people say, but seeing that the graphical update is their main focus as of right now, it just aren't the main priority yet, but i do imagine it's something they wanna do later on.
But that's just my two bits on it really.
I would like to believe that, but considering where BHVR's priorities seem to lie, it's hard to believe that they would be willing to listen to the community.
In one of their recent streams, one of the big questions asked was whether or not they would devote a chapter to game health, which goes to show that that was a question that was upvoted numerous times, so they had no choice but to answer it. And they answered it in the same way they did with the question pertaining to a training mode, in that it's a "possibility".
They say the right things but they never seem to do the right things. Actions speak louder than words, and right now the last thing we want is nicer graphics/cosmetics, with more DLC characters that will just bring with it more bugs and glitches. What the community wants is for the game to work the way it's intended, and to be given a practice mode. It's not like we're asking for the moon here!

With the teams working on DBD expanding more and more, i think it still could happen, and yes while people have been asking for it for a long time now, i still remain optimistic that we'll see it sooner or later eventually.
Yeah here's hoping.🤞

@[Deleted User] said:
They did actually talk about a training/practice mode in their Descend Beyond Livestream.
This is copy and pasted from Fibijean's recap thread about the stream.
''This is not a planned feature for the moment, but it’s definitely a possibility in the future. Bear in mind that mobile is a separate game with a separate team. This doesn’t mean that certain features can’t be introduced on both platforms separately, but this particular feature is not something that is currently in the works for the main game on PC and consoles.''
I did read that reply, and to be honest it was really frustrating to hear. A practice mode is something that gamers have been asking for long before the mobile game was a reality. Gamers have been hearing "it could happen" for four years now, which means that it most likely will never happen.😕
-
Welcome to DBD 😕. Matchmaking has been screwed up for a long time, and the community has begged for years for better matchmaking and a practice mode. You'll only get better playing against actual people, but at least a practice mode would help new players like yourself learn the ropes.
The developers did state that the MMR is a priority, so hopefully it will be activated soon. It should help you find better matches.

@HagIsBestGirl said:
After watching his video I thought about that. Bot mode would be amazing....but can it be feasibly implemented in base dbd?
We all know how cobbled together the game is, it was made years ago and bhvr has just, as naturally happens, become more capable in what they CAN do, but they're hobbled by the weight of what they weren't seasoned enough to accomplish when they first made the game.
Some of these big systemic changes we want...would they require complete overhauls? If they aren't required...would they be the best way to have most control?
Would there need to be a sequel to justify the work? Or could we literally just have a complete rebuild to serve as a "sequel".
Dbd's a little weird like that. It got bigger than it was meant to, and now it's kind of trapped by itself in some regards.
Fucjin love it tho, lol.
It can be done, they just need to lay off new content for once and focus on the game's health, and implement a practice mode while they're at it.
-
@Alex_Splicer said:
That or we simply get two modes.
Causal and Competitive.
Just give the people that play Competitive really good stuff and they'll want to play instead of being rude trolls that go play causal and sweat.
I would still prefer a practice mode, but I'd be comfortable taking a casual mode. If players want to be sweaty because their rank matters that much to them, then they can have the ranked mode and leave the casual mode to those of us that couldn't give a crap about rank.

They could literally just overhaul KYF and allow you to add in Bots.
At the very least it would give new players a chance to understand how their Loadout works and practice basic things like skill checks or a rough idea of how chases go.
But nah, would be going against their practice of pumping out the newest DLC every 3 months and undermine the entire point of selling Beginner Perks like Technician, Windows Of Opportunity, and Visionary as DLC.
You do the bare bones "tutorials" then get thrown into poor matchmaking and hope you learn anything through the struggle.
I played with a friend last night who hadn't touched the game in quite some time, and he needed practice getting used to skill checks again. He would have loved nothing more than to be able to practice before stepping into high-ranking matches with us (but sadly that's how it goes with DBD). He was just thankful that he normally plays Feng because at least technician prevented him from blowing skill checks, but it took him ages to finish generators.
-
@Emeal said:
I have questions tho.
Why cant you practise and learn with other people like I have done?
Why should BHVR make a mode that increases wait-times for those who actually play multiplayer?
My personal opinion is that people who suggest this feature are kinda coy, and you should get in there and play.
Are people so afraid of getting killed or get no kills in a game? Chickenwuss.
Go in fail and die, its what the game is about and its how we learned the game.
Last thing BHVR needs these days are another waste of their work, time and money, like the Tutorial Mode.
Otz goes into that in his video. There are many people that don't have friends that they can play with online to get a custom match going (and even if they do, not everyone enjoys kyf). Plus there are a lot of people that don't want to endure toxicity while learning to play. Not to mention anyone who plays DBD knows that it has abysmal matchmaking, which can easily lead to new players getting worked over repeatedly.
-
@DanielJ said:
It would help a lot with learning what you can do with certain killers, as well practice more niche things like properly running the combine thing on coldwind.
At the very least it could help you learn the basics with each killer. Trying to practice against highly skilled players is not something that I particularly enjoy doing.
-
@Chechia said:
A practice mode would be great.
But I am not sure about bots tbh.
There are a lot of survivors who are disconnecting on death hook. Imagine sweating your ass of to kill someone just to get that person replaced with a bot that is able to do gens and even more. That would honestly break the game.
But at least it's something to replace the person that disconnected. A bot can work on objectives, and the Killer can still get a kill if need be. Honestly it's kind of a win-win. But at the very least bots should definitely exist in a practice mode.
-
@APoipleTurtle said:
I'd love to have a bot/practice mode. Pretty sure it's something on their list, I just hope that they might make it a higher priority (if it isn't already).
Beyond using such a mode to develop your own skills/confidence as killer, it could be an excellent way to relieve frustration. Had a couple of really bad matches that soured your mood? Why not take all that anger out on bots who will happily accept such abuse instead of continuing the cycle of toxicity and ruining someone else's day?
Aside from maybe introducing more bugs, I see nothing but positives to adding in something like this.
Exactly! The mobile version has a great setup: in practice mode you get fewer blood points and less experience, but at least it's a great way to test out the mechanics and blow off some steam after some sweaty matches.

I've never gone into the match as a new killer at red rank and thought i was going to get 1 hook, I don't think that's ever happened, I don't get why so many people make out like the killers are these complex characters with button hit combos you have to learn, they often function off one or two mechanics that are incredibly simple.
To each their own, but there's no denying that Killers like the blight and nurse are extremely hard to grasp in high ranks if you've never tackled them before.

Yeah..... you almost just have to go into a new killer at high rank with the goal of just getting 1 person on 1 hook 1 time... and no sweat if you don't. Just slot NOED and M1 at the end for a little drama. Bonus points if your Deathslinger and you catch a guy doing the teabag boogie in the end gate with a long shot.
I managed to get a kyf going (which isn't easy for someone in my shoes) so that I could practice blight, and holy crap I'm glad I did because it would have taken me probably 20 matches just to get used to his mechanics against skilled randoms.

I made this account for that very reason. I hope I get to see it in main game one day.
Me too. At the rank I'm at with killer, I tend to face off against purple and red rank survivors, and the last thing I want to do is sweat my ass off tackling a killer that I've never played before.

There are a lot of perks that work better for some Killers than others, but I find a good universal Killer build would be POP, Surveillance, BBQ (since bloodpoints are life), and Corrupt.

idgaf about double BP I'm going to play the game I bought. If I beat you when you used 4 bps thats not my problem.
It's true that it's your game and you're free to play it the way you want to. But if you choose to be sweaty, then you have no reason to complain if your match lasted only minutes because players responded in kind by either disconnecting, or purposefully killing themselves on the first hook.
