Pinhead, Iridescent Lament Configuration/Chatterer's Tooth. Hex: Plaything, STBFL, both Scourge Hook perks (though tbh if I had Agitation unlocked it might be better to swap out one of the things here for that to get more regression). Stealth Pinhead and way easier box protection. Sure, you don't get chain hunts if you pick it up for any reason... but with 25s of undetectable and great info, who cares? Also makes chaining people round loops better, since they can't tell which way you're going.

Also has a high propensity for grabbing people.

That's not far off my own Pinhead build.

I'm having a lot of fun with:

    Iri Box+Original Pain

    Plaything+Penti+STBFL+Surge

Pinhead works so damn well with hexes, especially with the iri box. It's one of the few things it feels like he has going for him.

Honestly, I don't play all that much and I only started at Halloween, so I wasn't expecting to manage this on my first full reset cycle, but I pulled it off and playing Pinhead almost exclusively, too. Damnable addon nerf... ah well, I still have addon combos that I like, and honestly more fun than box hoarding.

So, this made me wonder: what has anyone else accomplished in the game that they're pleased with?

Grats! Was that the Adept? So glad I knocked that out pre nerfs.

    As for me:

    • Got Iri 1 on killer and finally got past Silver on survivor (I...really don't enjoy the role).
    • Finally got decently good with Demogorgon.
    • Accidently got my Doctor Adept (don't ask).
    • Unlocked all the perks I want on all but 3 of the killers I want them on.
    • Finally closing in on the first complete draft of my novel, over a year after I started it.

Congrats fellow Pinhead main, glad to meet others like myself.

There is definitely a theme of masochism going on here :D. I really enjoy him, but wow can he be frustrating to play.

I'm still salty about the ridiculous addon nerfs.

  • To be fair, this is an issue with almost all survivor perks and the core reason why I find the role tedious to play for more than a game or two in a row.

Nearly all survivor perks are just...bleh. They wander the gamut from brokenly overpowered to amazingly weak but are almost never interactive or require meaningful risk/decision making.

It's also one of the main things I love about playing killer. While many of them are undercooked, so many killer perks require you to do something different, can be outplayed and change up both the way you and the survivors have to play.

You perceive me as a jerk than try to pass it off as if it's a fact which to me is just a scummy thing to do. You don't have to agree with me but to act like I'm not a decent human being because once more I don't get bothered by in game bm is actually just not not okay.

I respect your opinions on this forum on every other topic apart from this one. We've talked before so don't get on like I'm an ass cause we disagree on something.

I lost my ######### because I'm sick and tired of people calling people toxic by an in game action, it doesn't sit right with me.

Unless there is actual malicious intent behind actions then it isn't toxic, it is harmless fun IMO.

    Sigh.

Yes, I do. Because I believe that the way you interact with other people, particularly strangers, determines whether you are a jerk or not. And I don't believe that videogames are exempt from this.

When people say 'toxic', then naturally it means toxic within the context we are discussing.

And there is definitely malicious intent when you are acting in a manner to deliberately spoil the experience of other people. How is there not? What other purpose to being BM would there be?

But yeah - we aren't going to agree on this one. Maybe a topic to avoid. Just keep in mind that when you are a jerk in a videogame, it says more about you than about other people.

You guys complain about everything. BT is completely fine.

Godforbid people give feedback on a gaming forum expressly for giving feedback.

    @glitchboi said:

Protection hits can sometimes be clunky, so I would say just remove the BT'd survivor's collision so that they can't bodyblock, and prioritize other survivors being hit instead if they somehow get hit when bodyblocking.

This is...actually an incredibly elegant solution. 10/10.

    @Johnny_XMan said:

Sorry but as long as Camping is not properly dealt with, BT can stay as it is for all I care.

I've been playing a lot of Myers lately he's one of my favorite characters and haven't played him in a while, also played around with trapper his buff is nice but thats about it. I played a couple more killers once and went back to playing huntress on console.

Myers is an odd duck. He depends so much on perks and addons and gets looped to pieces on some maps.

Trapper is the same - I'm not a fan of him and refuse to play him without Bloody Coil and Spring addons.

If you enjoy Trapper...please consider giving Hag a try. She's my go to 'I'm having a bad day' killer.

  • @ChurchofPig said:

Maybe I'm just being salty because it feels like it happens a lot.

What I'm noticing survivors doing a lot is purposely follow you so after you hook a survivor they can get hit, save while you're in the attack cooldown animation, and then Dead Hard avoiding the hit and getting their teammate hit. Another common scenario is they run you to the hook and then the saved survivor bodyblocks you until they get hit.

Borrowed Time is meant to punish killers that are both camping and tunneling. These scenarios, at the very least from the killers perspective, are not fair Borrowed Time plays. You're doing something to cause the illusion of camping and tunneling when in reality you're just being an a-hole and it feels a lot like perk abuse.

Here's my suggested nerf. If a survivor is hit while borrowed time is active on them and it's a protection hit, borrowed time's endurance is negated and the survivor is downed.

Like I said, maybe I'm just being really salty, but I stg this happens almost every match now and I'm sick of it happening. Survivors shouldn't be getting rewarded for these plays with borrowed time.

I don't mind it. I'll just bap them one and choose a different target. Dead Hard is the big problem here, IMHO (and CoH).

    @Pulsar said:

I've always thought BT should work on a time AND distance based system.

For example, "When a Killer has remained within X meters of a Survivor for more than X seconds, Borrowed Time will apply the Endurance status to the unhooked Survivor.

That's not a bad idea either though. It's a bit like the old DS in a way, where it's clearly intended to be an anti-tunneling perk but is too often used offensively.

Tell me about it. I've been playing some m1 killers lately because there's a few I like and it's been terrible most the time I just get w key and then is I catch them somewhere they can't w away I'm super loopable.

Which killer(s) do you main, out of interest?

Since CoH arrived, I've had to basically stop playing Wraith and Pig altogether, and even my Demo struggles sometimes.

I've been playing a lot of Plague, Hag and Artist recently, as they are generally more able to reliably apply pressure and get rapid downs before people can instaheal.

  • I'm a firm believer that you can tell the caliber of a human being in how they act towards strangers when there is no risk to them. It's easy to be a good sportsman and a decent person when others are watching - it's the other times that really do show people for who they are.

I agree. The whole hitting a hooked survivor is noobish to me. All that does is rub it in and it's bad sportsmanship.

I don't like doing it, but if I suspect there might be someone lurking around the hook I'll usually hit them once to stop the scream so I can listen. There is an alt-tab trick to get the same effect, but my game does not like me doing that.

  • @JasonS said:

I don't play DBD all that often and so I know when I come back to play the new killer I'll have to grind millions of blood points on other killers until I finally unlock BBQ and Chili on the new one.

How has this issue not been solved yet in the years since Bubba has been released? Either you need to deal with getting half your normal BPs or you just don't get to play the new killer until the RNG decides to hand you the one perk you're looking for.

It keeps getting worse every single patch too! Because more and more perks keep getting added.

Either the perk grind needs to be reduced or there needs to be more perks that offer the same BP bonus that BBQ has (just make them not stack with each other). Preferably both.

    Yup!

The grind can be absolutely ridiculous sometimes.

It took me over 2m BP to unlock BBQ on Plague recently, that much again to unlock Retribution on Artist and I'm now 3m deep trying to get STBFL on Cenobite.

It’s one of the reasons I stopped playing Hag. She suffers more from a good SWF than some of the other killers. They start they’re flashlight magic and it gets even worse than having one or two in the group intentionally setting off traps as you setup while gens are getting done. Probably not as big of an issue on PC but it can be problematic on console.

I'm a certified Hag man, and what I'll usually try to do vs this is:

    • 'Hide' traps around corners, on stairs, under vaults and in areas where they won't see them until they trigger.
    • Rely heavily on multi-trapping hooked survivors.

Flashlights aren't too bad (honestly, Wraith has it so much worse against souped up multi-flashlight SWFs) and they'll run out of juice pretty fast unless there are 3. CoH is way more of an embuggerance when I play Hag.

Granted, I'm probably not facing quite as high quality SWFs as you are though.

  • @CashelP14 said:

I'd say the worst 3 are by far the

    1. Cheating/hacking
    2. Letting someone bleed out instead of hooking them. Usually though they hook them at the very end of the bleed out timer.
    3. Body blocking. I only put this lower because I think you die quicker from this than the bleed out timer.

Farming to kill your whole team would also be here but I think the ones above are a lot worse.

T-bagging and flashlight clicking is horrible but sometimes their cockiness can actually lead to them getting killed. There's also the fact that it can be a strategy to get the killer to tunnel you if you know your team is bad in chase or to get the killers attention away from another survivor their tunnelling/camping.

Teabagging doesn't bother me outside of:

    • Bully squads who will stall the game out/lag switch/hold the game hostage.
    • Complete one sided stomps. It's like 'yeah, well done - your SWF is pretty strong'.

What gets under my skin is:

    • Flicky flicky macros, as I've got some issues with photosensitivity and the 'strobing' can send me to bed with a crushing headache at times. I've had survivors say that their goal is to give someone a seizure one day in postgame. More than once.
    • 'lul nub killer uninstall games full' from someone in postgame who was also hacking/switching/smurfing.
    • People who'll BM you after you gave them gate or hatch because they had a DC.

    @Rivyn said:

I usually will only smack Elodie on hook. Her scream irritates me.

I'd say clicky clicky is the most childish, since people actually go out of their way to macro that. Until teabagging can be macroed, it's not 'as' bad. Unless both are done at the exit gates.

Ash, Elodie and Nancy all have a very loud, annoying scream which I'll try to cut short.

As the title says. It's really sad how the former counter to healing has lost any relevance due to how strong CoH's effect already is. At this point I'm unironically using Forced Penance on my killers just to prevent the boon abuse for at least 80 seconds. That way survivors stay injured and actually have to worry about the killer.

Yeah. Honestly, it's not just Sloppy - it's basically every 'attrition' based style (aka: hit and run) due to the omnipresence of CoH and how ridiculously well it stacks with other healing perks. It counters several perks and...honestly, entire killers (Wraith).

I'm astonished that boons went live as they did, particularly this one. It's a souped-up Self Care for the entire team, for the cost of a single slot. So, so dumb.

  • @Trex_Crazy said:

As someone who enjoys playing hag I beg you to make it so survivors can't destroy your traps with flashlights. My reasons being that if I am dealing with a group of swf, could just be two could be all 4 though, who have flashlights I cant use my power. I can't set up because I have someone following me with a flashlight to destroy them and when I chase them I have another one of the group to keep me from using my traps on a loop or a chase. Then they just switch if I chase the other. If I ignore them and go after someone who's working on a gen and they just rotate out. It would be nice if they'd actually have to actively put themselves in danger to cause issues. I like playing hag but in that situation you only get to play if the survivors let you. I mean the survivors can already crouch past them so they don't need to flashlight destroy them.

    A few thoughts:

    • I love it when teams do this. It takes me less time to poop another one out than it takes them to cleanse, and it tells me where they are.
    • They'll rapidly deplete their flashlights.
    • 3+ items in a lobby = Franklins.

I see these type of posts on the Steam forum yet no one could provide evidence of these so called 4 minute Survivor queues.

Is it SWF or solo? Because people were being very picky about the videos I posted as evidence of the contrary.

I have to make sure I don't hurt anyone's feelings.

Survivor has always been longer at night and faster during the day. This has never changed over the years at least here in the U.S.

MMR or boons did not change that. Frustrating? Sure. But the overall health of the game is still fine.

If I remember I'll record one in the morning and upload it somewhere. Early morning queues routinely start at 5 minutes and can go 4x that long (although, to be fair I think they've updated something to prevent this).

To be fair life happens. I’ve had situations where I’ve been called away unexpectedly. I think it’s more polite than DC’ng. This way someone can get points out of me and if I happen to get back before I’m dead I can get back into the match.

Every few days I'll 'butt queue' - generally in the mornings where my queues can be longish. I'll then alt-tab and start doing something else...forgetting of course that I've queued up.

  • @Thusly_Boned said:

Killers, how to you deal with survivors who are AFK at the beginning of the match? Personally, I will usually smack them once, if there is no response, I will leave them be until the crow notifications start, and it becomes a distraction, that seems more than fair.

On the survivor side, I used to see an AFK killer or two a day, but I haven't encountered one in months.

I'll generally hook them ASAP and kill them, then likely ease up on the rest.

If the killer just vaulted through it, you're getting hit in the enter animation. If you finished the enter animation before they finish the vault, you would've wasted more of their time running somewhere else.

Which is really what it comes down to. You keep saying it "wastes killer time", but if you're losing distance and gaining nothing, what time is being wasted here? It's either exactly the same for the killer, or they lose less time because the snowmen are kind of rubbish and only work for goofing off or very specific niche situations that don't pop up that often.

So it's not a problem for the vast majority of cases, we've covered that. The niche scenarios it is useful for only give a small amount of extra time-wasting, we've covered that. What's left is to remind you that these aren't designed for serious, tactical play, they're designed to be funny disguises that survivors can use to goof off- the cost of that is a very slight advantage they can gain some of the time, and that is more than worth it for the limited amount of time they're in the game.

Now, it's more of a problem that specific killers like Twins and Ghostface don't get to use their powers, that's a thing I'd like to see corrected if they pull this out for next year, but if you're not playing those two (and debateably kind of Legion? A little bit?) then everything else still stands.

The issue is more that killers don't get any sort of new tool to play with, while survivors do. The Halloween event demonstrated that BHVR can make an event with fun and dynamic stuff for both sides.

I think you are drastically underestimating how strong the snowmen can be when used correctly. I see a lot of people run into them and use my miss animation to just make it to a pallet they wouldn't have been able to without it.

And yes, the fact that it futzes with killer powers while being completely negated by others (Doctor, Bubba) is annoying.

It just feels like this event was farted out without much testing or consideration.

  • @Adjatha said:

    MMR is useless for killers.

    • The original point of having different MMR for each killer was that you wouldn't be punished for trying somebody new just because you played a lot of a different killer. However, in their tests, they found that putting you against new players was a bad time for the players (because they haven't figured out how to press the run button yet). So instead, you get an average over all the killers you HAVE played. Which almost always means you start super high and get wrecked over and over again. It's bad.
    • The OTHER reason for MMR is to go up against survivors at approximately your skill level. Except, in order to keep queue times low for survivors (and because people are quitting playing Killer, the system just matches you up with whoever's been waiting the longest. Which almost always means super high MMR.

It's a complete failure from the ground up. Maybe it works better for survivors, but it has failed Killers on every useful metric there is.

I don't think that's how the MMR works for killers, although I could be mistaken. Honestly, that would be better than how it currently works, where it takes your highest MMR killer and pegs it just below that.

  • @Rivyn said:

Yea that's ######### stupid because I cant be Nurse levels of powerful with ######### Legion.

Yes, it's silly. I have a feeling that it's going to be tweaked in the midpatch.

My core gripes with it, aside from this are:

    • It doesn't account for SWF, so if you take a bunch of solo survivors with a certain MMR and throw them into a SWF - now you get absolute stomps.
    • It's not nuanced enough for survivors (I'm okay with how it operates on killer).
    • At certain points of the day, it starts getting ridiculous with the matchups it gives. I'd happily wait a few minutes longer for a more even game.
    • It feels like killer MMR inflates too fast.

    @Rivyn said:

@jesterkind How so? At least with the old ranking system, you had variety in playstyles. Now, you either sweat, or face hackers, at least on killer side. Survivor isn't much better, where you either sweat or stomp. Personally, I'd rather have the old ranking system. At least then, I could find the sruvivor/killer with a meme build and play tag. Now, it's just sweating.

    Eh.

The rank system was great for high MMR people - as they'd frequently get paired against people of a much lower skill level and it was so incredibly easy to smurf that even some Fog Whisperers openly admitted to doing this routinely to get easier games.

As some streamers have pointed out - those nutty '100 win streak no addons' videos aren't going to be possible anymore, and this isn't a bad thing. Those streaks were fun to watch and likely awesome for the person doing them, but miserable for everyone else.

MMR has, at least for an intermediate player like myself, dramatically improved the game.

  • @ChampagnePapi said:

Every time I get on dbd to play killer the game is always the first map I get and I cannot stand it because I face too many sweat squads in that map and I have to force break all these safe pallets. I barely get maps like coldwind, autohaven and etc

It depends on the killer I'm playing.

Hag? Plague? It's fine, but boring. Doctor? Artist? It's...tolerable.

Anyone else? It's a nightmare. Too many pallets, too many ridiculously safe pallets that a survivor can easily play around for 30 seconds before dropping it, a lot of very strong loops.

It's not Badham, Cowshed or Haddonfield levels of obnoxious - but it's another map that makes me groan whenever I get it.

    @GeneralV said:

    You know how I know?

I played a ######### ton of Nurse to the point I'd only go against death squads, so I stopped playing Nurse.

Exhibit A as to why your sytem is ######### garbage, I casually got better at Nurse so I'm punished to never play her again. YOU PUNISH KILLERS FOR PLAYING THE GAME TO THE POINT WHERE NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY KILLER ANYMORE BECAUSE IT'S JUST 16 META PERKS 4 FLASHLIGHTS TBAG DELUXE.

Also, I literally haven't played a Hag game SINCE MMR WAS RELEASED. And yet I'm being put against 16 meta perk 4 flashlight tbag deluxe death squads AFTER 0 GAMES. PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THEY GET IRI DEATH SQUADS WHILE THEY HAVE DOUBLE DIGIT HOURS.

    FIX YOUR GAME.

    Here's how it works.

When you start a 'new' killer, or haven't played that killer for a certain period of time (3 weeks if I recall) you get given an MMR pegged slightly below the MMR of your best killer.

    That's...really, really silly.

However, once you start playing, your MMR will gradually adjust and as long as you don't stop playing that killer for weeks on end, it's MMR can rise and fall independently of the others.

    @Rivyn said:

@jesterkind The devs already admitted in a dev stream that the MMR system they have is incredibly poor. Balancing is always an issue, but they just compound the problem with this lackluster match making.

It's certainly not perfect, and it feels like it too often prioritizes queue times over match quality - but it's a million times better than ranks were.

  • @xxshyguyxx said:

I love Leigon. I do. It's just so hard to play more than a few matches as him before you have to play other killers bc Leigon at high MMR can't really hold his own.

Case in point. 3man at father Campbell's church. His frenzy couldn't hit more than 1 survivor at a time.bc they were separated most the time. Doesn't last long enough at base like it should.

Secondly, it's just not fast enough. I targeted a Feng who had sprint burst carry her to a Twall with a pallet, and she was able to run me out of frenzy. I lagged behind a little to long to catch up fast enough to handle to pallet Twall.

Then at end of match I had a basement hook, and the exit was right outside the shack. That same feng was opening the door and I stopped camping the basement and frenzied to her, hit her, and ahe just kept opening the door.

My 4 second cool down, and her dead hard was still able to pillow her into the exit no problem.

    Just nuts.

In hindsight, I should have just kept on camping but I was trying to get more than 1.

He just isn't viable. He's to slow, frenzy doesn't last long enough, and that cool down is crazy long for a power that can't even down anyone.

Unless the map is small, and the survivors are close to each other frenzy can't chain hit anything, especially with all the dozens of jingle gyms, pallets, and windows each map offers.

That 3man was good. Damn good. Plus all had meta perks that extended every chase when I finally did catch up.

I was a punching bag in most of.my matches as him. It sucks, bc I like him. He gets tons of bloodpoints when you wanna grind for other killers.

Dbd has to know he is just so bad. Lol.

As others have said - he and Ghostface are up for a rework.

The question is - is it going to be an amazing Plague/Demo level rework that will substantially improve their 'feel' and give them awesome addons that completely change up their playstyle, or is it going to be a Pig level 'we changed a few addon colors, have fun' rework?

    Will be interesting to see.

That's all there really is to it. This game is so survivor-sided at this point that playing killer just isn't worth the headache and frustration anymore. I used to enjoy playing killer before dead hard validation, constant boons, borrowed time's changes, just everything that has made playing survivor easier. The cherry on top are these stupid snowmen. I'll be inches from a person and they hop into a snowman to tank another hit and make enough distance to start looping again. I feel like BHVR has made all of these changes to make playing survivor more fun since it's the statistically more played role, but they don't take into account that playing killer is just as necessary and needs to feel rewarding. As of now, it feels absolutely dreadful to hit someone, they scream, you go into cooldown, but they pressed Dead Hard on their McDonald's wifi and have now made it to another loop. I'm just sick of feeling like instead of having to outsmart 4 survivors, I have to outsmart 4 survivors and all of the game's second chances to at least get one kill. Am I alone in thinking this?

    I sympathize.

This game can be maddening to play killer as, especially with people using the snowmen tactically (right when I was starting to learn Ghostface too) and with how BM survivors can be at times.

My biggest gripe though is just how unfriendly some maps are to M1 killers, and how outdated half the roster is - either in terms of bad/boring addons or a bad kit.

Thank you. As I said, everytime I dc it is indeed my fault, But any type of penalty that's not my fault is just really bad. And 5 minute ban is also not an argument. What if I ply with friends, it happens and we all get 5 minutes. It would be frustrating. And if it happens again it would be 15 minutes, for playing the game

Okay, let me see if I can explain better - keep in mind that I'm not trying to be mean, just honest.

    • AFAIK, the way the penalty works is that you have to play x number of games to reduce your penalty by a 'tier'. If you play a lot of games without any DCs, you even get a pretty decent grace period where you will receive no penalty if you have a few DCs.
    • In your situation, you've added to your own problems. By rage DCing when you don't like how a killer is playing, rather than just suiciding or something, you use up your grace period. This means that if you do have network issues, you are going to start getting a penalty.
    • DCing is a bad thing to do. Not only do you leave your team in the lurch, it also spoils the game for the killer.

In the future, if you aren't having fun with a match, go and stand by a hook and point to it. Or better yet - play it out.

just got out of a fun game , i slug all 4 and killed all four .... but that require Surv not do anything for a min or two ... Got me thinking... What if Gen were disable for the first minute of gameplay. This might stop gen rush as much to now a mind game to play a game of hide n seek.

    This...wouldn't work.

It's the same reason why I don't run CI anymore - it just incentivizes people to run around/hide/do totems for a while.

Yes, sometimes gens go too fast and you'll get RNGed where survivors get an amazing spawn on a crazy huge map and you lose 2 gens before the game even really gets going. Your best bet in these games is just to stake out a 3-4gen and defend it.

Fyi, my network's fine, I checked the router logs. BHVR just foesn't care

No, you admitted to rage DCing multiple times.

If you don't rage DC, the occasional network issue or mandatory DC game (someone holding it hostage) won't get you any penalty.

Here's the thing...I'm on your side. You shouldn't have to just, "Live with it." It's unjust. I agree with you. You should appeal it. It won't do you any good, but you should. Network errors are not malicious acts. They are not immature acts designed to purposely hurt and interfere with a match. It just happens. As does life. Most decent humans are understanding of it. I don't know what people's problems on here are. I was told over and over to fix my ######### internet. I have fiber optic internet and I was getting shamed into not playing my favorite game because I was "poor" with "bad" internet, at least, that's how it felt to me. Well when I finally got the courage to talk to nice, understanding, knowledgeable, tech people, we figured out that it was partly a host error, and partly an issue with my router. So please, do not listen to these petty unknowing people, do what you think is right, and talk to somebody that actually is a professional in their field.

Pizza, people really tried to help you in that thread. Nobody called you 'poor'.

This thread is why people were skeptical of your thread - because here we have someone who started with 'it's a network error' then admitted to deliberately DCing multiple times because he didn't like what the killer was doing.

I had great hopes for this killer but after playing several games on her I can say with certainty that she's yet another weak killer with no actual power in chase.

The biggest gripe is how easy it is to repel her crows and how long it takes to chain two hits together just to even deal damage on her. The worst aspect however - and that's the thing which makes her borderline unplayable to me - is the fact that her power gets DISABLED whenever she's close to a hook. And this happens without a survivor even being on it.

This is absolutely awful, all it takes to completely shut down this killer's power is to run past one of several hooks on the map. I see no reason in playing her anymore until this issue gets addressed.

She's fine. Either low 'A' tier or high 'B'.

Her addons are mostly crap though, especially her purples and iris.

I wasnt trying to say that bubba was overall op. his ability to facecamp is the problem

BHVR have acknowledged that facecamping is a problem - but want to add a more surgical fix to facecamping overall that won't stop proxy camping (which is just killers doing what they should).

  • @rednightmare said:

Face camping bubba needs a nerf. If you see bubba, 90% chance he is Gonna be a facecamper. Prolly gonna run insidouis. A nerf to bubba would be once he hits a survivor he throws a tantrum immediately. No more knocking two guys while unhooking. Borrowed time would actually mean something.

No, that would nerf a 'C' tier killer to below Legion level.

BHVR are adding a mechanical change to discourage facecamping down the line.

But - think of it this way. Camping is about as fun for the killer as it is for the survivors. Maybe if Bubba got some love, he'd facecamp less?

An hour is not much. 3 DCs plus this server crap that happened. I always left to really annoying camping, tunnelling or griefing killers, because usually I don't care for bans that short. I just complained that if this server thing happens again, I'd have 6h for no reason

    Ah.

    See, this is the problem.

Stop DCing and you won't get a penalty anywhere near that long.

The only time I'll DC is when someone is straight up holding the game hostage, and I've never even had the slightest penalty because it's so rare. Sometimes I'll have a server issue - but again, never a penalty.

If it's your internet, that is going to be up to you to fix. If you're just rage DCing, stop.

whenever I play killer I wait less than 10 seconds, every killer quits.

Yes, my killer queues are very fast. 90 seconds max offpeak (survivor has gone above 15 minutes before!) and basically instant peak (survivor at 2-5 minutes usually).

Even with room for 4 in a game, there just aren't enough killers around. And that's going to be a difficult problem to solve.

  • @Terrik said:

I just thought I'd share my thoughts on the game, after having been gone for years and coming back to basically relearn everything. I picked up the game again just before Halloween and this season I went from Ash IV to Iri I on killer, which is what I play the vast majority of the time. Spoiler alert: There will be some whining, but it's not ALL bad.

Like many other killers on this board, I have many of the same gripes (My post count may be low, but boy do I lurk a lot).

For me, the biggest issues come in a few categories.

Gen speed should be obvious. There seems to be a thread on a daily basis about how fast gens go down. The higher my MMR, the more likely I'll run into a team that will have 2 gens up and running shortly before, or just after my first hook--and there is very little I can do about it, unless I'm playing the Artist and get lucky with a little bird surveillance. Applying pressure is supposed to be the method to prevent fast gen-ing, but you're very limited in your options to do so. Boons make hitting a survivor and letting them flee a terrible idea, and committing to chases with a halfway decent looper will result in more gens popping. When I choose my killer perks, I feel extremely constrained in what I can run. I feel like a great deal of my perks are either underpowered or extremely situational. To put it another way, if I'm going to run perks that don't deal with gen progression, I'd like to feel like I'm getting a benefit that is at least comparable to slowing down gen progress. I could count on one hand how many perks that comes out to be (Thanks, Bubba).

Which brings me to the general annoyance of being a killer. Just about everything I do feels clunky. Yeah, I get it--this is how it was designed from the ground up. I have to be slower in vaulting, lots of "recovery" actions, and a dozen ways to be stunned, blinded, blocked or otherwise harassed. You know, it also had me scratching my head why the "terror" radius never did anything more than warn the survivors of your presence. Why not cause it to have certain side effects, that might make it a bad idea to crowd around the killer (Certain perks nowithstanding)?

Of course, that begs the question--why isn't there more counterplay options for the killer? Take pallets, for example. First of all, there seems to be more pallets in your average DBD map than there is in a home depot. Second, it makes chases both predictable and boring. Loop--Loop--Loop, reach a pallet, wait for survivor to drop it, break it, rinse and repeat at the next tile. Even running something like spirit fury is almost pointless, since you still get stunned. Unless you're running a killer that can hit through them, you literally have no options. The survivor holds literally all the power in those scenarios, and there's so many pallets, they can do it again and again. No wonder anti-looping killers are so popular. Why don't I have more options for modifying the chase or looping mechanic? There are so many counterplay options for survivors. Just about everything is designed to be forgiving, and give second chances. If I miss a melee hit or get pallet stunned, it might cost me the chase, or even a gen. If a survivor messes up, the have a dozen perks that'll help them out from Decisive strike to getting blinded during a long, uninterruptable pickup animation (there aren't walls everywhere), and nice little bursts of speed when you get hit.

And speaking of mechanics, we have some issues. Survivors that charge head first into you because they know you can't hit them, or the mouse flicking to change direction on a dime. Let's not forget the quick jump in and out of closets and the hit registration where I get a grunt of pain and bloodpoints, but no health status hit because reasons (?). Survivors hate NOED, but I hate if they're not already injured, attacking them is nothing more than a nice slap on the rear out the escape gate. If anything, I think exposed status should be the default once the gates open, making escape something that takes a little more planning and strategy other than "Go ahead and hit me, bro. I'm out."

There are many matches that leave me thinking about what exactly my role is as killer in this game. Am I there as an equal player to try and "win the game" or am I simply a "smarter AI" that's something to be something fun to be chased by. I use to play Evolve a lot--also primarily as the Monster. One thing I can say about that game is while it, too, was admittedly more hunter-sided, the main point of the match was to slaughter each other, so there was forced interaction and both sides had to be deadly for the game to work, and there was a certain power scaling where as the monster you needed to evade when you were at your weakest as Stage 1, but were a terror if you reached stage 3. Very rarely do I ever get the impression that the killer is "dangerous" like I did in Evolve. There also doesn't seem to be a lot of QOL or balance changes that are meant to improve the experience of the killer, and yes, I'll echo what many other killers have said: getting 0-1k feels awful. It doesn't even matter if I got every singe of those survivors to their 2nd hook state. The perception is still that you lost utterly and completely. It's why killers tunnel. The game only feels good if you get a kill, and it has the bonus side effect of slowing down some of that aforementioned gen progression.

All this being said: Do I have fun?

Yes, sure. I do. There's enough in this game to like, but I feel frustrated because I feel like this game is so close to greatness with its theme and style and basic gameplay--but I really wish it would do something more to alleviate the frustrations of playing what is essentially the main draw of the game.

    Welcome back!

It's...interesting to be a killer main right now.

    A few thoughts:

    • Gen speeds are, imho, not the issue. The issue is with map design, about half the killer roster being too weak and the overabundance of second chance and anti-pressure perks which allow survivors to sit on gens. CoH killed off basically all attrition play, so now it's either hard aggression, hard regression or instadowns.
    • Tunneling, unless you are tunneling directly off hooks, isn't something to complain about. 'The Rule of 3': if there are 3 survivors remaining once 3 gens are completed, the killer wins. If not, they get 0-1k generally. This is a snowbally game on both sides.
    • Evolve...eh. A very, very different game.
    • Losing generally doesn't bother me, so long as I got 2 hooks on most people or I lost because of my own mistakes. It's the games where it felt like I had no chance at all - be it because of MMR throwing me to the wolves or ridiculous map RNG that bother me, especially when survivors are BM about it.
    • Otzdarva (one of the most prolific DbD streamers around) did a fascinating experiment over the past 2 days to see if the game is truly survivor sided in all contexts (rather than most). He ran his strongest builds and addons with every killer, and 4k'd all but one game (which was a 3k). Now naturally he plays this game for a living - but there is something to say about the balance within the role as well as the balance between the roles.
    • Right now killers have too few good perks to choose from, while survivors have a handful of perks that are so strong they artificially restrict choice/variety. This has resulted in a bit of a stale meta. However, the Artist added 2 very interesting new perks into the mix, Pain Resonance in particular is seeing a lot of play. The killer also turned out to be a solid 'A' tier.
    • I totally understand what you mean about killer being frustrating (the Christmas event has ticked a lot of killer players off too).
  • @Thusly_Boned said:

Unfortunately at this point, I would assume any survivor is equally likely to be running CoH, so I don't think singling out Mikaelas is going to accomplish much.

I use Mikaela quite a bit and almost never use boons. It does sometimes attract he killer's attention, though.

At intermediate/high MMR, basically everyone has CoH, Dead Hard, IW etc. regardless of skin.

The OP is very new apparently, so most of the Mikaelas he's coming up against are probably the main people he'll see using it.

  • @wewantbetterfun said:

This happens all the goddamn time, BHVR fix your ######### broken MMR system or just remove it FFS

The issue isn't the MMR system.

As things stand, at certain points in the day survivor queues can be so long that it results in bonkers matchups for both sides. Hell, 4 minutes is nothing - I've finished an entire episode of Bob's Burgers while waiting one morning.

The problem is that there aren't enough killer players to fill the role.

Which is very fair and understandable, I just felt the points should be presented as it is an argument I've seen before on this subject. If I'm being perfectly honest with my actual opinion on the matter above, I think the points hold some weight of truth to them but are very weak as a counter argument to keeping BM in the game.

As for my actual thoughts on BM, I don't get bothered and generally don't even care about this issue in the first place so I normally ignore these type of threads. I wouldn't be effected in the least if all BM from both sides was taken out, left in or made worse. I tend to play very chill and let everyone go or just meme around and even when I do play serious and get BM'd I'm not phased in the least. I just move on without a care in the world. Even if I do somehow get mad it's only ever for a couple minutes and then I lose interest in whatever it was that annoyed me.

I just happened to see this thread again, wasn't doing anything and thought I'd chime in once more from earlier as I noticed no one had yet brought up the age rating and genre which I've seen debated with before on this subject.

I hope you have a good one though and I meant no ill intentions.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2692705#Comment_2692705

Which I very much agree with. I think some minor BM and smack talk is par the course but death threats, racism, etc is never okay and should be punished accordingly.

Mm. I have a feeling that this is a hot button topic right now due to the influx of new players from Epic.

BHVR and the out-of-game community have cultivated an extremely 'progressive' image, so I think a lot of people were surprised to find that the community in this game is pretty damn toxic (don't tunnel people with Pride flags, but go nuts with strobing flashlight macros to give photosensitive players actual issues).

I've always been of the opinion that there is a difference between a 'taunt' (which can serve a tactical purpose) and a 'gloat' (which is just being a knob). Trashtalk implies a rivalry, which in turn implies that people know each other. Absent this, it's just being nasty.

That last one also bothers me--because occasionally (I seem to wind up against console a lot), I do have fun just from the endgame chat (and honestly I wish we could get pregame chat so I could say hi and be friendly to maybe defuse some jerk behaviour). But the whole pointless kudos system... not only do we not have a way to discourage bad behaviour, we can't encourage the nice stuff.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/7IN6CULSQ75O/gibboxback.png

Stuff like this (guy got the hatch whilst holding the box) is just great.

Yeah this is why I struggle to turn postgame off - even though 60% of the time nobody says anything and 30% of the time it's people being nasty or sulking.

Every now and then you just have a hilarious moment. Like earlier, I didn't realize that 'The Doctor Is In!' archive challenge doesn't require me to play Doc or use only those three perks.

Ended up getting it against a very good SWF group, played extremely hard but never resorted to camping or tunneling off hook. Absolute slugfest of a match on The Game. Was surprised when I also got the Adept for Doctor, not even realizing that this was essentially what I was doing.

    Postgame:

    P1: GGWP

    Me: Sorry for the sweat

P2: Grats on the adept, you definitely earned it!

    P1: Ya really good doctor

P3: Stream is cheering for you right now!

Such an...oddly uplifting and wholesome moment.

It's...not. It doesn't work well within the current meta and has several easy counters.

It's definitely a '4 star' perk (on the Otzdarva scale :) ) but I'm honestly more concerned about another perk combo that I'm not even going to mention (too much fun to risk jinxing).

Check the definition of Devils Advocate. I'm simply surprised it's a point that hasn't been brought up, whether I truly agree with it or not is something entirely different.

    Counter points

    1. IRL sure but this is a video game and doesn't hold nearly as much weight with how one acts in it, within reason of course. On that subject true harassment is something that should be taken very seriously and thankfully is. Also, shouldn't emotionally stable adults not be bothered in the first place or at least understand it's only a game and be able to move on? They should be able to understand that teabagging is incredibly unrealistic, the same as taunting others in public. As such BMing in the game should be taken about as personally as the entire getting murdered and torture aspect of it. As in, it shouldn't.
    2. Good. Not sure the point. If a kid is teabagging or being a jerk in a game then it's more on the parent then the game to decide if that's worth disciplining. Doesn't hold nearly the same weight for an adult.
    3. Horror comes in many shapes and sizes so it really depends on what one would classify as horror. While most direct horror plays on fear, no argument there, I think horror can still be classified by the helplessness and anxiety that people can feel, the more psychological aspect of it if you will. Not being able to save someone right in front of you, the feeling of helplessness as you are unable to do anything but watch and all the anxiety that comes with it. Such things are truly horrifying to some people.

Now I admit with that last point that arguing whether BM fits into that weird hole is a bit of a stretch but I think the feelings that comes from BM are quite similar at the very least.

Eh, I'm not going to argue with someone playing Devil's Advocate - that's just a waste of time. This is a videogame forum to discuss feedback in good faith, not a formal debate.

so ive been playing killer a lot recently, please do note im still pretty new at the game like a week and im a bronze 1 killer, for some reason the match that i get is always against rank 10 or even red ranks, i dont really mind that but what i always dodge is mikaela players, i dont know what she does when i frist played a match against a mikaela but then i noticed that every survivor was healing everytime they were injured, i thoguht they all were running 4 self heal but apparently theres a boon totem (which i didnt know what it was before) and i thought its liek a hex totem so i ignored it but tehn i noticed the survivors keep coming around the area and healing up everytime, obviously im pretty confused, after the end of the match i searched up every perk they were running and found boon: totem of healing, i read about it and it seems pretty annoying and i dont see any way to counter it other than tunneling the mikaela, any suggestions?

As others have said, the perk you are talking about is Circle of Healing, which is incredibly overpowered at present.

As you are new, you're going to have fewer options to deal with it too.

I'd say (if you have them):

    • Play Plague. Her kit counters CoH.
    • Use Plaything (Cenobite perk) and Retribution (Deathslinger perk), this will make it more difficult to use as many boons.
    • Use Devour Hope (Hag perk).
    • Play Cannibal, Ghostface or Myers - as all three of them have the ability to instantly kill.

If you only have the free killers, it's going to be much harder.

    • Huntress is worth learning, she can get people downed quite fast.
    • Nurse is even better, but you're looking at 100+ hours to really start to get good with her.
    • Hillbilly has an instadown, but he's quite weak and janky to play at present. If you are going to learn a 'hard' killer, the former two are better.
    • Until you have a lot of other perks, Wraith is going to be the absolute worst choice against CoH (and even with them he's not great). I'd strongly recommend not playing Wraith for the time being.
  • Oh yeah, I noped out of a few survivor challenges this time.

Sure. But if you're going to tit some tats, it's best to make sure your level of retribution is fairly equal.

In most of those cases, people were actually cheating and breaking the rules. Lag switching, hostage holding, false reporting, you name it. Let 'em bleed out. Let 'em take a break in the corner, I don't really care.

Being obnoxious and douchey isn't quite that, though. Neither is someone not giving you your challenge. Meme on them, talk trash, smack on hook and headnod, no problem-- but holding them hostage is less the eye for your eye and more the finger for your nail.

It's why you can't just pull out a gun when someone starts a fistfight.

Yes, I agree completely. He totally overreacted and should likely get a temp ban for doing that (I cannot stand griefers).

I'm just saying - yeah, killers get really annoyed sometimes, especially when they get an infuriating archive challenge (this one had a few of these).

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    Who cares about them honestly?

Let them be a Grinch. Play the match like normal, and move on to the next one. Not all killers are doing this.

I for one think that players who get in the snowmen get in the worst possible positions making the match easier for me. So if somebody wants to not take advantage of that, then loop them like normal. I'm sure they will have a ball.

This honestly feels more like someone trying to smurf their MMR down without making it obvious than someone annoyed about the snowmen.

I'd understand being annoyed if this was obvious BM or if the event wasn't ridiculously easy to earn literally everything from it.

As stated before. I truly didn't know he was doing the archive. Other archives existing (except the one I was doing) slipped my mind.

Fair enough - but in future, when you see a killer doing this, he's probably doing his archive (much as if I see a survivor running only their base perks, I'll assume they are doing their Adept and ease up).

He shouldn't have walled you in either. That was an overreaction.

I've had to change killers, that I loved to play, because of meta changes, making the killers not so great anymore. It's just ######### that happens with this game. Complaining about a temporary event is pretty pointless, when there's ways to play still. Even changing up your perks, on the killers, that are bad against snowmen, can benefit those killers. Any perk that requires a basic and/or special attack, activates when hitting a snowman.

I think this may qualify for prosecution as 'abuse of the common comma'...

There is a difference between a meta change that nerfs your favorite killer slightly and a bug/exploit/oversight that completely breaks your killer. Why are you defending a bug?

Shouldn't BHVR be expected to test/fix stuff like this?

  • @MrSlippery said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2692707#Comment_2692707

I've provided you with information of how to play with the new mechanics. You can choose to listen them, or not. I could care less. The event doesn't bother me in the slightest. So yeah dude, I'm not complaining. Surivors fooling around with snowmen, aren't working on gens. That's actually a good thing.

If 'how to play the new mechanics' means 'just quit or don't play your main' then...yeah, you're basically agreeing with us that BHVR messed this one up.

And no, survivors aren't running to snowmen instead of doing gens. Survivors are using these as another defensive tool/'tech' (see: exploit) that also happens to glitch out certain killer abilities.

In the 50 odd games I've played in this event so far, I've seen literally one survivor using a snowman outside of this, and that's when I let a duo escape after someone rage DC'd.

1 … 94 95 96 97 98 … 145
