  • I think The Candyman sounds natural enough that they don't need to come up with a new name like "The Hook" or something. Candyman is such a unique, iconic, and creative name that it stands on its own and I'd be a little disappointed to see it changed.

Despite my frustrations with him, Blight is an immeasurably fun Killer to play if you take the chance to learn him. Blight is a struggle to be sure but perhaps you could just crutch on the typical Blight meta? It'll buy you some time to practice his rushes. I can link a solid guide if you'd like in the media lounge (The video is no longer age-restricted so it should be grand)

Sure, I wouldn't mind any advice. I don't think I'll be playing Blight anytime soon probably because I just got burned out on losing so many times in a row to survivors I definitely would have killed had I been playing nearly anybody else, but I'll definitely take a look at the guide and depending on how good it is maybe I'll be inspired to try again who knows.

  • Technically speaking I guess I have two, because they're the ones I've got at P3 with all perks: Ghostface and then Freddy

Shoot. I just remembered while writing I should've said three. I've also got Oni at P3 all perks as well. I just haven't had him at P3 all perks for as long as the former two so I forgot.

So technically 3 mains: Ghostface, Freddy, Oni. Change my vote pls.

However I cycle through a lot more than that, and I basically play through whoever I've got a daily for (which means cycling through all the killers at some point or another). But to be more specific, I play a lot of Nemesis and Deathslinger so they would be the runner ups to be considered as mains.

I'd also like to learn Blight but frankly it's just too difficult to learn a technical killer like Blight when you're at red ranks and most survivors are light enough on their feet to dodge out of the way of a lethal rush in time. So that's been a real struggle and I haven't played Blight in a long while because of it.

  • I mean, Nurse / Spirit are still a thing so yeah.

Even against optimal survivors Nurse is still Nurse and Spirit is still Spirit. Although obviously they're not going down as quickly as normal since in this hypothetical they're all competent with no weak links. Still though.

  • I'm not a fan of the idea just because a Nautical themed chapter has been my most wanted original chapter concept for years now, and I've got all these ideas about a Vintage Scuba Diver, or a violently cursed pirate, a cursed naval officer, or classic creepy fisherman / sailor, and honestly a Siren at this point would be kind of an underwhelming letdown for me.

I guessed it's more of a personal bias because I've become too attached to my own chapter concept ideas, but I mean come on. A Scuba Diver or a creepy fisherman / sailor wielding a Fishing Spear? Or a violent pirate cursed for the rest of his days with a barnacle covered cutlass? Or a respected Naval Officer that tragically died at sea armed with an officers saber?

    And then you've got: S i r e n. Singing a creepy song I guess.

I don't know, just can't get behind it.

  • Little Nightmares is a fantastic, atmospheric thriller / suspenseful adventure game, and I would absolutely recommend it 10/10 times to anybody that hasn't played it.

But it's not for Dead By Daylight- it's just not. The main characters are canonically 8-12 inches tall so a survivor is undoubtedly out the window, I don't see many of the killers being good fits either- they operate marvelously in the frame of their own story but probably not as well in dead by daylight, and the game itself is so visually distinctive and unique that it looks like it came straight out of a Tim Burton film- it visually contrasts DBD to such a degree that I don't believe it's realistically compatible.

I know there are some arguments to be made either for Little Nightmares or against what I've said- like, "Oh visual contrast doesn't matter- look at Trickster!" or "Yeah, but there are a few antagonists from Little Nightmares that might still work like The Lady!"

Answer to that former: Trickster visually contrasts the other killers but he doesn't contrast the overall tone and setting of the game. His story is just as dark as any of the other characters and begs thoughtful players to think about the effect Fame and Glory on a person. How Celebrities in the modern day are often enabled in their darker tendencies, and that inappropriate if not harmful behavior is overlooked. How these people, given the opportunity, can take advantage of the praise and popularity they're given, should we not be mindful and view them only through the crooked rose tinted lens of idolization.

Whereas Little Nightmares is flat out- fundamentally visually contrasts Dead By Daylight. Little Nightmares is a surreal suspenseful adventure of a small character in a big and oppressive world. True to its name, it's very reminiscent of how a child might wander through their own nightmares in the dusty recesses of their minds, affronted by the things that confuse or scare them.

Indeed- for many of the death sequences between the two games, not a lot of time is spent on the aftermath when you get caught, the frightening mystery of what happens next a completely elusive idea to a child, as the screen fades to black when you're inevitably caught in the grip of a disgusting or horrifying creature. In some of the death scenes you even get eaten- very much like the fears of a small child who is afraid of being eaten by big monsters. Funnily enough- when the screen goes black and you respawn your character "wakes up" as if having just been startled awake by the mysterious horror of an ambiguously nightmarish end. But rarely if ever is there any real actual blood or gore on screen, the closest thing I think would be that kitchen sequence in the first game and the meat is being ripped and cut open by the chefs. But even in that level the scenes depicted were merely grotesque, and suggestive of what may happen should you be caught- and as far as I remember there wasn't actually any blood or gore in there either.

Altogether completely different from the "realistic" dark purgatory-like fantasy of Dead By Daylight which very much considers a more mature imagination and perspective to put into context the endless suffering of survivors trapped in a cycle of slaughter.

Answer to the latter: The Lady is basically the Nurse as we see her in DBD. The Lady in LN also has telekinetic powers, can float, and teleport. Although I guess she can also turn children into Nomes? Which is a very odd power that I don't see converting very well into Dead By Daylight. What I've written thus far about the contrasting themes and visual design, the lack of blood in LN, also applies just in general in trying to make a killer work.

There's also just the small fun fact that the director himself doesn't actually consider Little Nightmares to be a real horror game- he calls it a "suspenseful adventure" game which- for DBD purists who take issue with the idea of expanding into the grey areas beyond horror that include Thrillers and more suspenseful pieces of media (film / TV / Games) might be a dealbreaker. I've never been one to strictly adhere to this self-proclaimed rule in my own theorycrafting and speculation, and though I think it's a good general rule I don't think it's a steadfast harsh line- licenses should be looked at a case by case basis.

Still though, I figured it'd be worth mentioning.

All this being said, what it really all boils down to is I spend way too much time thinking and writing about an idea that really isn't worth thinking about to begin with. Rip lol.

  • If you're a good bubba then you're faced with multiple very short chases, no real reason to heal, risky saves (especially without BT / DS), and an overall bad time.

Very rarely do you find mediocre bubbas. It's either one or the other.

A bad bubba is likely to just call it quits after catching one guy when he gets gen rushed and then it's time to just camp on hook. Not fun either.

A bad Nurse is one of the most hilarious, chill, relaxed matches you can play because a bad Nurse probably won't really even be able to hit you a single time (moving slower than survivors run at a base movement speed of 96.25% means you can't even rely on M1 strats).

A mediocre Nurse is an actual fun game of tug of war which keeps you on your toes. No longer a literal walk in the park, you do actually have to pay attention in your chases and throughout the match, but you're not sweating super hard and you're not feeling downright helpless either.

A good Nurse just means respect to those of you to have made it that far with the character- worst case scenario survivors might be a little salty just cause maybe they've been on a losing streak and don't feel like being stomped into the ground even further on top of that.

  • It's not even that I particularly enjoyed Last Year- because frankly the balance was just absolutely atrocious to the point where I could not tell if there was an extremely steep learning curve or it really was just that badly balanced. But I sincerely thought it had such promise and potential in the future had the devs made the right decisions. Mechanics like the Predator Mode and ambush takedowns were so cool and unique that it was such a waste to see those ideas squandered because of a poor launch followed by a myriad of other abysmal choices that came from the developer team.

If the devs had just decided to not go with their dumbass Discord Exclusive release deal I have no doubt the game would have seen much better success. I love Discord, it's great, they've done a great job fostering quality communications between players (and broader communities) for free, and some decent features should you decide to purchase their premium service (that is by no means required). But they are NOT a digital distribution service like Steam, Epic, etc. and how they couldn't see that with their own two eyes is just frankly beyond me.

Last Year is just another tragic story of wasted opportunity. It really is. It could have been so much more.

Fire Up needs to be buffed before Brutal Strength, starting with some simple % increases...

    ^^^ This

Brutal Strength just isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I'm thinking about killer perks that need buffs. Insidious, Monstrous Shrine, perks like these have existed just as long as Brutal Strength has since the game has released, and have not aged anywhere near as well with the utility that Brutal Strength still has- even if you're of the mindset that it's not the greatest killer perk out there.

  • Kind of an unfair poll because Hag is a great killer and Trapper just doesn't hold up anymore these days- so you're kinda just asking would you rather go against a good killer or a bad one.

However, that being said, I was reminded of how cheesy and cheeky hag players play when I went up against one in low ranks cause I recently introduced two friends to the game and they're low ranks outweigh my red rank according to matchmaking. That being said they're still not super great at the game, and I saw this hag who was relying exclusively on some campy strats actually get rewarded for them in these lower ranks. Had we been playing at higher ranks she likely wouldn't have gotten a single kill but because I was playing with people that didn't know what they were doing and don't have a single perk like Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline, etc. The Hag actually got to feel good about herself because she was getting rewarded essentially for playing poorly.

Needless to say I'm still a little salty about it.

Long story short you don't have to be any good to play Hag, and that low skill floor can be kind of annoying in comparison to killers that take a bit more thought than the mindless "place phantasm trap on hook / other side of pallet loop / generator"

Just was thinking about it while watching one play.. I think it would be awesome for them to have a lil something in game. Alot of games do it..

They already did this for a large portion of the major content creators in the past, many of whom still play DBD using their own custom made cosmetics. The devs even gave codes out to said content creators for their viewers who watched them on streaming platforms like twitch.

The devs also created exclusive cosmetics for certain gaming events all around the world that they attended like PAX and a bunch of other ones they went to that I hadn't even heard of. They gave out the codes for exclusive cosmetics to people that visited their booth / went out to meet them or whatever.

Eventually it got to the point where they had created so many people with exclusive cosmetics running around from various events / content creators that it kinda became a problem, in large part because of scalpers and resellers. People that got their hands on these exclusive cosmetics would sell their steam accounts for literal hundreds of dollars (sometimes thousands) so people could get their copy of DBD which had that exclusive cosmetic on it. Of course this was extremely shady and a bunch of people got scammed out of their money and got absolutely nothing in exchange for it.

So the devs decided to stop creating exclusive cosmetics and gradually released every single one of them for free during different community events / updates which was a widely popular move amongst the community. The devs also put up for sale every single content creator exclusive cosmetic that they had created (which totaled to 26 entire individual cosmetic pieces) as a buyable DLC on Steam for 4.99 USD called the Charity Case (because all profits made from the sale of this particular DLC went to charity- specifically the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation). This was a couple years ago in 2017 (at least the DLC was released, but I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly all this happened at about the same time).

Long story short- they stopped making exclusive cosmetics for some pretty good reasons. Not just to completely rob resellers + scammers of their power, but also to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity amongst the community and allowing everybody to enjoy these cosmetics (not everybody has the time or money to go out to PAX and events like that).

And I get that you're just talking about Fog Whisperers specifically who aren't the likeliest candidates to tarnish their reputation by doing shady things like sell their own accounts, but I'm saying that this whole thing about exclusive cosmetics in general has already been hashed out years ago. And I don't see the devs reversing their decisions from all the way back then.

That being said a few special exclusive cosmetics still do exist in the game, Holiday exclusives (but these are pretty standard amongst many multiplayer games), Dead By Daylight's unique Legacy outfits (available only for players who played in 2016, the year that it released [I'm still so sad I never picked one of these up despite having the opportunity to T_T]), and of course there are the Crew Cosmetics that are only for the actual developers themselves to wear. These simply don't present the same issues that the widespread number of exclusive cosmetics did in the past however.

Point being it is what it is. The Fog Whisperers already have their Fog Whisperer charms (which most of these people do actually wear) and I don't see any need or reason for the devs to give them anything more than that.

  • I don't think this needs to be tackled as its own unique problem- this really still just falls under the umbrella of players disconnecting during matches (albeit for a different reason).

Reinstating disconnection penalties solves this problem just as it should for players who think its a great idea to ragequit every match, or quit right at the beginning after everyone's loaded in because they didn't like the map. Players that DC don't earn any of the bloodpoints they accrued throughout the match (no matter how little or how much the number is) and we should again see players who do this too frequently get matchmaking suspension timers- 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hr, 2 hrs, 24 hours, etc.

In Rainbow Six Siege they dole out -50% renown gain as well, so players earn less throughout their matches. Hitting players where it hurts (their bloodpoints) and increasing the already insufferable grind would also be a pretty decent deterrent I think.

Besides this, I don't think any other extra precautions or penalties are necessary. These should be enough to penalize players who frequently and willingly decide to DC in their matches for whatever reason.

  • I hate when a poll poll just assumes you play mostly either one role or the other.

I enjoy stealth for the most part so long as it's not being used to just stall out a match and prolong the inevitable. The classic "two survivors left both hiding until one is found" scenario just absolutely isn't fun especially as a killer, and there should be a mechanic equivalent to idleness crows if a chase hasn't been initiated and no significant generator progress has been made after X minutes / seconds. This is just something that should be done now but most definitely if the devs ever decide to incorporate more avenues / options for a survivor to be stealthy so that it is not used for gimmicky / stalling purposes.

So long as that possibility is ruled out and survivors can't just stall out a match without being found at all I'm more than open to different ideas for being able to be stealthy. If the devs say wanted survivors to have the ability to hide in chests, or the ability to go prone and lie flat on the ground (to compensate a killer would just flat out be able to pick them up if they get caught like this), or a button that allows survivors to press themselves up against walls or crouch against short loops, I'd be pretty interested to see these ideas tested out.

Most new gameplay mechanics that would allow the opportunity to shift up how Dead By Daylight is played is more than welcome in my opinion. I think the last significant thing they did to the base game was the Endgame Collapse and that was 2 years ago now in 2019. We've got "boon totems" coming which will add the totem component for survivors I guess, but we haven't heard anything about that in a while and it wouldn't be the first time the devs said they were looking into something and then quietly and mysteriously dropped it somewhere along the way cough pregame collapse cough.

  • First off I don't actually consider the chapter release as part of the anniversary event. Whether the devs or anybody else says that- let's be real, the chapter's going to come either way Anniversary or not. If they hypothetically cancelled the anniversary event (which they wouldn't do because the anniversary is an opportunity for them to stroke their own egos and pat themselves on the back about how far they've come, what a great job they've done yadda yadda yadda [I'm not saying that these things aren't true but I am saying it just comes off as too much gloating. It's like we get it- can we move on?]).

If something can happen indiscriminately regardless of whether or not the event happens or not, it's not really a true part of the event. That's just a fact. Whether or not the devs use the anniversary as an opportunity to garner hype for a super cool license (two years ago I think was Ghostface, last year Silent Hill, this year Resident Evil) doesn't matter, the chapter WILL come either way.

So too does most of the regular update stuff: the Raccoon City Police Department, most of the stuff that's unrelated to the event in patch 5.0.0 and 5.0.2, come on, you're just trying to pad the list with three extra things that don't actually really count.

So let's take a look at what they ACTUALLY did:

    1. They re-used the Crowns, and sacrificial Cake concepts. Only slight visual changes were made here.
    2. They continued their anniversary string of cosmetics from last year which is just a recolor of the default character models except now wearing black clothes with gold veins running through them- last year was Deathslinger and Claudette, This year was Wraith and David. (is this just going to be the color scheme for every single anniversary event from here on out? It's a cool scheme don't get me wrong but you really downplay the uniqueness of each anniversary if they re-use the same banners, same art, same color scheme, etc.)
    3. They gave people free currencies so long as they logged in (which is just providing incentive to play and boost active player numbers)
    4. They rotated the shrine daily instead of however long it usually takes for the shrine to rotate which is like once a week or month or whatever (I never use it- waste of shards imo).

And that's all. Some of the most low effort things that they could do and just slap them all together to happen at the same time and you've come out the other end with something that BARELY counts as an event. This is one of the two "fantastic" events that they said they would sacrifice the quality of every other event for: Winter Solstice, Lunar New Year, all for this dumpster fire.

A true event, is supposed to change the pace of the game, that's what events are for- to take a break from the normal hustle and bustle of the game and to have some more relaxed fun during the holidays or other special times of the year. If you're not changing anything of real significance, you're not making a real event, that's just it that's all.

And the white knights out there will just go out and say "At LeAsT uR GetTiNg SomEtHinG" but again- that's not the point of the event. Events shouldn't be a mindless dangling of the carrot on the stick saying "hey if you just log in we'll give you some free stuff!!" how ridiculous is that. Events are supposed to be a collective celebration of the existing community, a coming together where people enjoy what they're doing during a brief moment of time where the regular gameplay loop is changed and shifted. Not thoughtless grinding to get a dumb "crown" which doesn't match the visual aesthetic of the game, doesn't look good, and nobody wears outside of the event, on every single one of the 20 something original survivors and killers and continuing to grind as much as possible as fast as possible to get as many cakes as you can for the year.

The shared community goal is a little bit better because it provides a sense of being part of a collective, but the rewards still aren't all that great. They're recolors of the default models- and though they look a hell of a lot better than golden halos bouncing around behind your head you can most certainly tell that these are just whipped up at a moment's notice. Whereas take a look at for example, the hallowed blight cosmetics (and by extension the withering blight, + eternal blight) where brand new cosmetics are carefully crafted down to the smallest details that completely change how the character is visually presented and the character model itself. That is a desirable reward that people will work towards, and hell even the gothic / victorian style cosmetics for the survivors like Claudette, Dwight, Jake, David, Felix, etc. also look incredibly unique.

And the daily rotations for shrine isn't even that great a thing to be proud of for the event- because the shrine is and has always been a testament to one of DBD's greatest problems: which is an intensely insufferable grind. Rotating the shrine every day is just an alternate way of saying to new players, "now- instead of grinding for literal hours upon hours every single day to get a new character with iridescent shards, an incredibly slow to earn currency which is supposed to incentivize you to shell out the money to buy our premium currency auric cells, you can grind for a decent fraction of that time and just get whatever perk it is you're lucky to have appear on the shrine!! DAILY!!!"

We wouldn't need the shrine of secrets at all, if the grind wasn't so intensely long. So advertising this as a selling point of your event saying "hey, we've reduced your grind!" instead of that just BEING A GOAL TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE FIRST PLACE is frankly just a boneheaded, crappy, rotten thing to do on the part of the developers.

I really do enjoy Dead By Daylight. But this anniversary event just makes me sick and sorely disappointed. Wondering what could have been instead, if only the developers valued the community enough to give the people a proper event that's actually worth their while.

  • Sounds like either she'd be completely broken (turning survivors to stone on a mere glance?) or they'd have to distance themselves from the original myth of Medusa and do something similar to how they worked out the Medusa boss fight in AC Odyssey (she stared at you and if you were standing in her sight you slowly slowed down and began to turn to stone) but even then that doesn't sound all that appealing in DBD- that's just a better version of Clown I guess since you'd only need to look in a survivors direction for that to work. (In AC odyssey she only needed to see you, you didn't need to be looking at her / in her direction).

With all the Greek Legends stuff they've been introducing, I honestly wouldn't mind a full ancient Greek themed chapter at this point- but I'm not sure if Medusa would be the best candidate. Though she's probably one of the more better well known candidates (doesn't make her a good one). Maybe a cyclops instead? Not sure

  • I've been thinking seriously about it- the ability to access my steam library from anywhere actually sounds really attractive I'm not gonna lie.

It's kind of a wait and see type of deal, the announcement of the Steam Deck really came out of nowhere and the more I hear about it the more it sounds like it might actually be even better than the switch. But I gotta see what other people think of it first and whether it's actually a reliable console or not.

  • I love little nightmares to death but it doesn't make sense to me to see in DBD, the creatures shown in the game aren't normal humans and Six is canonically maybe a foot tall at most, same with the other characters like The Runaway Kid or Mono who aren't particularly taller or shorter than her. I sincerely see zero chance of the devs being able to make a survivor that tiny actually work in Dead by Daylight.

In the same way I can't really see any of the creatures being killers, the height difference, differences in visual design, if all the villains in that game struggle to catch an 8 inch tall Six I fail to see how they'd work being put to the test of catching actual people. There are just too many leaps and gaps to be covered for me to see Little Nightmares working in DBD.

Again, Little Nightmares is an absolute fantastic title that I really enjoyed the experience of playing, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it. But not for DBD, I just don't think so.

  • Ghostface is a narcissist- or at least is narcissistic on some level, he loves himself and what he does more than anything else, so he'd be one of the worst candidates for shipping.

Also, I guess what would be an unpopular opinion on this kind of a thread: shipping itself is pointless, why does every character need to have some romantic interest. :/

The People seem to like the options, You can add them all together into 3 if you want. I did it to get knowledge of the rationale too-

The most knowledge, insight, and rationale is typically gained from the people willing to comment- you can just ask people to elaborate.

If everytime a poll was conducted you listed out every single possible option that anybody could ever think of- you'd never be able to streamline the responses together to form a proper conclusion. Obviously an exaggeration to make my point since the forums limits you to ten responses (but I have no doubt you'd probably have gone over that if you were able to) though my point still stands. Being able to compare the data quickly and immediately between those that responded yes and those that responded no rather than having to sift through "yes and..." four different times for each kind of response doesn't add all that much value.

If the people really liked the options as much as you say they do, you'd see polls all the time make use of every single available poll option much more frequently- but that's not the case at all. Save for the specific circumstances where you need those poll options like "what's your favorite killer?" and then you've somehow got to fit 24 reasonably different answers in 10 poll slots. That is understandable.

What isn't understandable is : "I like Nemesis because he can hit through windows" and then "I like Nemesis because he can break pallets with his tentacle strike" and then "I like Nemesis because he has AI controlled zombies" and on top of that "I like Nemesis because he's a cool character from Resident Evil which is a great franchise". Sure I guess you got more information- but isn't that information redundant as far as the poll itself goes? Couldn't every person just answer "I like Nemesis" and then write their reason for why??

    It just doesn't make sense.

  • I don't know why OP decided it was necessary to use all 10 available poll options when 3 or 4 would have sufficed, having four different ways to "yes" just convolutes the process and the information people are supposed to gain out of the responses.

But yeah, more mechanics would be nice. (Seriously, is anything else more necessary than just that one line?)

  • I don't know why you have your poll options organized with 2 yes's and 2 no's but I just want to be clear:

no, no, no, and of course: no.

    Never in a million years.

Yes, the devs have heard us but maybe you haven't been around long enough to hear that answer: it's a chorus of players across the board in the community saying no. It's one of the few things most of the community can actually agree on.

  • This ain't even a competition, it's a flat out murder.

Ghostface wipes the floor with Pig any day of the week.

  • Yes or some other variation. Which is why I selected "Maybe an alternative" because I just want to see something like this and I'm not totally dead set on any single idea in this regard.

This is really just another way of telling the devs we need some kind of crafting system / bloodpoint market where you can salvage items that you've gotten or maybe combine items / add-ons / offerings to create new items / add-ons / offerings. Systems like these would really benefit DBD especially for such a grind intensive game like it where bloodwebs are completely RNG based and you could go for forever without getting something that you're looking for can be harsh.

It's on my list of top new mechanics I want to see introduced in the game that really shakes things up. We've got Boon Totems coming soon for example, but beyond that I'm still really looking forward to hopefully one day seeing a crafting system, BP market, Perk Tiers removed, a pre-game collapse, etc.

  • It exists, there's not much else to say about it.

I generally don't even really bring items all that often anyway, so it doesn't impact me too often. Although if I do have a medkit it'll be slightly annoying that I won't be able to get the full heal out of a common medkit.

The last time I went up against a Franklin's Demise though I just so happened to be running Built To Last however, which is a slight counter and I was able to get my full heal either way.

  • As a Ghostface main, I have the privilege to actually enjoy indoor maps unlike an unfortunate few who just don't operate as well within the confined spaces.

Out of all of them (although I haven't been able to play very many matches on the RCPD map, total I've played it maybe 4 times including survivor and killer) I suppose I'd say Lery's. The gameplay feels the most normal and natural on this map with an equal balance of pallets and windows, with plenty of tiles that you can mindgame and give equal opportunity to both sides (although sometimes the way they line up can be a bit harsh for killers). It feels the most fair out of the indoor maps and I can appreciate that from both sides

Midwhich just isn't as active of a map since you've got long hallways that reduce most chases to hold W, and even a few of the side rooms themselves are just completely meaningless and empty without a pallet. It's just not as engaging a map and the layout doesn't really facilitate very interesting gameplay.

Since they reworked The Game it's not as good for stealth killers anymore because they've really opened up the center area- survivors are more likely to see me sneaking up one way or another, but it's still an indoor map so it's better than say playing on Blood Lodge which is super open and you can see across almost the whole thing. The map is also full of safe pallets that you can't really mindgame or do much else about except eat through them one after the other (if you're going against competent players anyway).

Hawkin's Underground Lab Complex probably has the tightest corridors and most constrictive layout of any of the indoor maps next to Lery's and has some of the most unsafe pallets of any map that you can't stay at and loop, so there's not really as much of a reason for me not to like it as a killer (stealth killer especially) but I'm not sure, it just doesn't vibe with me for whatever reason.

Again, I've played so little on the RCPD map I can't even really give a confident opinion about it.

  • Plague.

Unironically one of the most poorly designed killers on the entire roster (before twins and trickster somehow made that debatable) with the most passive ability of all the killers right after V1.0 Freddy and V1.0 Doctor. Needs a legitimate rework.

  • I don't really hate going against any of these killers, if you're good with any of them it's because you've practiced enough to be good with them. I've seen plenty of bad Doctors and Hillbillys that can't time their electroshock therapy properly or hit their chainsaws, and more than plenty of bad Nurses that aren't good with their blinks. So if you're good with any of them, especially a good nurse, it's just respect for the player really.

That being said there are just some days I don't feel like being absolutely crushed by a really good Nurse, and I'd rather at least a fighting chance against the rest of the roster. So I suppose this is what can be most annoying- although going up against a good hillbilly or good doctor can sometimes feel almost as much of an uphill battle, but obviously Nurse is just something else entirely.

  • I said this when the Twins first released on the PTB- it's literally a test of an original concept to see how a killer of really small height and stature could work in Dead By Daylight through Victor.

All they'd have to figure out is the carrying animation, and how flashlight saves would work, the hooking animation could easily be explained away as the entity aids in lifting a survivor up with it's claws and slapping them onto a hook. Everything else is about players adapting to a killer so wildly different from every other killer in normal gameplay.

On a slightly separate note I'd like more killer heights to be introduced, beyond just "tall" and "average" they should add another category on either end to create more diversity across the entirety of the killer roster. There should be "Short" and there should be "Towering" and this way you could have a wider range of the kind of characters included on the roster- for example aside from chucky there's the small creepy girl from the grudge and just in general the classic creepy supernaturally powerful little girl trope, and then a character like The Oni or Nemesis are what I would consider good examples of Towering killers.

So short - Chucky, Average - Freddy Krueger, Tall - Michael Myers, Towering - Nemesis.

    That'd be pretty cool imo.

I feel like I am obligated to keep playing DBD right now because of the amount of Bloodpoints I can get but I am getting less and less fun matches on both sides and I just wanna take a break.

And there's a ######### Bloodhunt coming soon! I feel like I'm forcing myself to play DBD for the grind rather than actually playing it at this point... I wish this massive boost of BP wasn't just a once in a year thing and it's how it is usually because right now, I feel like I'm not playing for fun...

This is how I felt in regards to the rift. I grinded out the first like four rifts to completion and it got to the point where I was legitimately considering the time period between rifts as "vacation". The immense grind for the rift (and the terrible disappointment that was the eternal blight event which was somehow worse than the withering blight event) actually pushed me toward my first ever break shortly after Halloween sometime in november. I'd been playing since 2016 and my first ever break from the game was this year lasting about seven months until about June just before the Resident Evil chapter came out.

I came back pleasantly surprised that they changed it a little bit and now each level of tome gives you progressively more and more rift fragments, but it's still a drop in the bucket and I know grinding the rift every single time with a 3 week ish period between them is gonna get old again real fast.

The grind in all its forms is a serious problem- and it must be absolutely horrendous for new players but even for veterans it's not all that great. Everytime a new chapter drops you've got to get the new characters to level 40 and then get all the new perks on every single survivor and killer you've got Playing not because you want to but because you feel obligated to is an awful feeling and it really changes your perspective on something you used to genuinely enjoy.

I still enjoy Dead by Daylight a lot but reconciling with the grind isn't easy, between grinding for bloodpoints, iridescent shards (which is slow as all hell and there's nothing you can do to speed it up), and rift fragments, it's pretty tough out there in the fog. And the devs have shown very little sympathy and done very little to alleviate any of these issues.

DbD is a slasher game based on the slasher genre and slasher tropes, the gameplay itself is supposed to revolve around it which is why looping is being phased out. That means the Devs aren't obliged to anything but slasher icons. And an icon is just the most recognisable symbol or example of a thing, so that basically translates to "show some random in the street and see who they recognise because horror nerds will recognise everything and render the test pointless".

First off- looping isn't being phased out, it's the main gameplay loop for survivors and killers, it's the entire reason why maps are designed the way they are, and in short DbD just wouldn't be the same game without this core central facet of gameplay. If you're referring to BHVR constantly releasing new killers with strong chase powers but little map control or other utility, then I would say even that is experiencing some pushback- it's not particularly new information to say that people don't enjoy going against chase killers because of how oppressive they are in 1 v 1s and how they kind of disregard the skill of their opponents entirely when it comes to looping or map knowledge because their power allows them to circumvent loops partly if not entirely.

Such that content creators are releasing videos like OhTofu's "Are New Killer Designs Destroying the Fun of DbD?

    https://youtu.be/2WXNVJ6EXT0?t=130

So it's not like the community is embracing this new trend either.

Secondly, you kind of ignored two things that I said so they still stand: I used arguably the two most iconic horror characters (Myers and Jason) in my example to then say that if I showed them to people that don't watch horror, they wouldn't know who they were. Unlike characters like say- The Avengers, people who don't watch or don't even like comicbook movies probably know who Iron Man, Thor, Captain America are (Captain America specifically is apparently super popular abroad which is somewhat surprising). I would argue that this is nowhere near the same for horror characters- again because they target a much smaller audience (typically teens / young[er] adults) who enjoy the "thrill" that the horror medium provides. To my previous example again, Action and Comedy and other genres in general are simply much more emotionally accessible genres than Horror is.

So if the most iconic characters (Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees) aren't even all that iconic- what does that mean for all the other characters that are being mentioned on this thread? For Pennywise, Chucky, Candyman?

Secondly Part Two, I literally told you that 7/8 killers mentioned on the list I provided ARE slasher characters to one extent or another because they all share the same identifying trait all slasher villains have in common- a slashing instrument. And y'know what, I'll take this a step further and say that The Thing does have their own slashing instrument because it frequently transforms its body to have all manner of sharp teeth and claws which it uses to kill victims in the film, like the scene where The Thing literally snaps off Dr. Copper's hands and then proceeds to bite into Windows' head in the next scene. So 8/8 of the listed killers are slasher killers.

    Screen Shot 2021-05-16 at 7.31.18 PM.png Screen Shot 2021-05-16 at 7.31.42 PM.png Screen Shot 2021-07-20 at 11.02.29 AM.png

So I don't understand what you gain out of the insistence that "DbD is only for Slasher Villains!" when everybody we're talking about here are classic characters of the slasher heyday in the 70's 80's and 90's. Y'know what isn't a slasher character? Springtrap. Slenderman. Yet these are requested every day by a minor but very vocal part of the playerbase, and I have no doubt that at some point in the future we likely will see these characters come into the game to appease that part of the community whether you agree with those additions or not. (Again, I'm not making it a secret that I prefer the slasher villains of the decades over those two, but it is what it is).

You know who also isn't a slasher killer? NEMESIS. Who is actually in the game. Or Mr. X for that matter, who were the top two picks for Resident Evil killers to make it in Dead By Daylight, neither of them use slashing instruments opting to overpower their victims with the sheer brute force of their fists. So unless you're trying to tell me that Nemesis inadvertently cuts his victims to death with his fingernails when he punches them- this kinda sinks your entire theory about Dead By Daylight being only for Slasher villains doesn't it? Clearly the devs have some other ideas about what their game is meant to be.

I personally admire the slasher genre, I'm very much fascinated by it. And I love that Dead By Daylight's origins and for most all of its history for five full years centered around slasher figures. But I can also accept, and even appreciate when the game and its developers decide to depart from their humble beginnings and pay homage to a few other figures of horror like Nemesis and beyond.

Though I am saying, I would very much love if characters like Pinhead, Candyman, Pennywise, Chucky, The Thing, and of course definitely The Xenomorph, The Predator, and Jason Voorhees would find their home in DBD, since it's been a long time since one of their kind has joined the game. The difference is I don't want to be controlling and voice an opinion that would stranglehold the games growth, hindering it, and prevent it from being likable and accessible to other audiences. I'm not saying flat out "no" to other licenses, I'm saying "later".

  • There's quite literally nothing else to do and it's about one of the few scenarios that are actually acceptable and entirely understandable to camp in (not saying it's unacceptable to camp in general, but I am saying if you decide to camp right out the gate you're A. going to lose and B. have every right to be hated by the person who's on hook and is forced to do nothing, the people who are falling asleep doing gens- also doing nothing, and yourself who is indeed doing nothing.) outside of say a 3 gen chain and you've got a person on hook- the survivors did that to themselves at that point.

Just imagine how Ghostface was... Super-loud while in Stealth, global Sound that he entered Nightshroud and you basically had to sneeze at him to break him out of Stealth.

I impulsively answered the poll too quickly, because it's been such a long time since the PTB for ghostface, but after reading a few of the comments yeah I remember how bad it was again. Pretty good condensed, comprehensive summary of what it was like. Switch my vote pls.

I remember being super frustrated with the idea of a stealth killer that had such a loud audio cue while in stealth, what was the point of all those fabric sounds that you could hear like 10 meters away. It was ridiculous lmao. A stealth killer that can't stealth is so sad to think about- I'm glad and grateful he's much better now and he got the changes he needed.

  • Would I play it? Hell yeah something brand new and so fundamentally game changing as a game mode like that would be amazing to play.

Would I consistently play it, or even play it more than the regular mode? Depends, and the answer would probably be no, they'd have to really do some work to make sure that it's as fair as possible but more importantly that it's actually just fun to play and not frustrating to play too much of.

  • Insults in endgame chat? Sometimes. People get salty that's just facts.

People telling me to die from cancer and the same for my mom? Yeah that's much more rare for me personally... I don't usually meet people that get that intense in endgame chat and those are thankfully much more infrequent. When it does happen I just leave, let those people smolder and stew in their own frustration.

They had crossed the line when they released the DLC for Leatherface, Nightmare on Elm Street and Saw, Really for me in an inner part I dislike how we are progressing at the moment, we are moving away from the Slasher theme and entering the world of video games with collaborations, It could be FNAF or Evil Within the next chapter, but the truth does not feel like it was before, I hope we see a slasher icon be it Candyman, Chucky, Pumpkinhead, among many. Although I would like you to be able to obtain licenses for lesser known killers but well known by the Slasher community, such as Matt Cordell from Maniac Cop, Harry Warden from My Bloody San Valentine, Three Finger from Wrong Turn, among many candidates, so it would lengthen much more the licenses for 5 more years.

I would also actually appreciate The Miner from My Bloody Valentine, I love that you can easily categorize each chapter and the characters within them into a different subset of horror: The Hag and The Huntress are representatives of Folk Horror, The Blight would be Body Horror, The Doctor is Psychological Horror, you could arguably place Nemesis as a Sci Fi horror killer on account of being a scientific creation with the purpose of being a bio-weapon (but true sci-fi horror is something DBD lacks, and would probably best be welcomed in the form of the Xenomorph or Predator), though he's not a killer Ash Williams is a good representative for Comedy Horror, Bill Overbeck represents Zombie Horror which is apparently an entire sub genre on its own (although Nemesis does now have actual zombies so there is that) etc. so on and so forth all of them for the most part under the umbrella of slasher conventions and the slasher genre.

The Miner and My Bloody Valentine are another excellent representative of Holiday Horror, which exist in Dead By Daylight in the form of Michael Myers, and the Krampus legendary skin for Trapper.

But any additional characters that really fill the demand for other genres to be more greatly represented in Dead By Daylight (we've got a lot of "sort of" Sci Fi horror chapters but not really what I would call fully in that genre, nothing that I would really categorize as Gothic Horror [Think Dracula, the werewolf, or a killer with some romantic elements IE Miss Smithson cosmetic for Nurse], and obviously only a few representatives for Holiday Horror.

Bolstering up these genres with more chapters and characters that fit in their veins is an excellent way to diversify the kinds of stories within DBD. Long way of saying yeah, My Bloody Valentine would be cool.

But not as many people know about it so I didn't add it onto the list.

Bro, at this rate, in 4 years merely launching the game will bluescreen your PC, fridge, TV, while shutting down the electricity grid of your entire neighbourhood five seconds later. More Killers that shaped the horror genre would be great, but god damn we need a chapter or two dedicated to the game's health.

A topic for an entirely separate thread. The fact is that they're going to release new licensed characters anyway, and the community voices their opinions on what they want to see within the game.

As important as game health is it is just not relevant within the context of this thread, as its just not what this particular thread is about. I'd appreciate it if people would stay focused on the topic being discussed.

    @Gruul said:

As someone who really likes both the lore of dbd and complex killers if they saved the next license until next year I wouldn't be bothered.

All the license killers save Executioner and Demogorgon (the more modern licenses) have really simple powers that really boring.

    Myers-Stabby one shots

    Bubba-Chainsaw one shots

Freddy-Was interesting but got reworked into blood puddle in loops to win.

Pig-Ambush doesn't really function well. Head traps are cool but your forced into the same add-ons every game to make them work.

Nemesis-Tentacle man that give survivors an extra health state.

    Ghost Face-Myers/Pig variation.

I know they're icons but from a gameplay perspective they're extremely limiting in what they can do. I'd take a twins or a Plague that have complex powers that can only come from building from the ground up for a video game than copy and pasting yet another slasher any day.

I'll never understand this line of logic because it's so reductive. It assumes that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the concepts and live balancing for original killers that they're more or less perfect on their own, and it goes a step further and undersells the unique aspects of the kits of various licensed killers.

Michael Myers was released in 2016 and was the very first killer to play around with the idea of a reduced terror radius and not a full blown stealth ability (though he would have access to this in Tier 1), a concept which many killers in the future would take note of: Huntress, Spirit, Deathslinger, Trickster, etc. so on and so forth. His ability would also do a great job of referring to the plot progression of the Halloween movies (and many slashers in general) the threat of a creepy stalking serial killer is established in the beginning, the threat escalates throughout the middle of the film as he begins to maim, injure, and kill people, until finally climaxing when the menacing presence of the masked figure bears down on the protagonist.

Freddy had the most significant overhaul to his power to date that was very much a complete success in its entirety, and still stayed true to the concepts of the original films. Referencing multiple different scenes and moments of the films and the character of Freddy Krueger within his kit: the oversaturation and exaggerated use of blood in the films comes across clearly in every part of his power, generators which spurt blood, pools of blood which operate as snares, illusionary pallets which explode in a shower of blood.

The dream projection is an accurate way to represent Freddy's omnipresence within the dream world, the illusionary pallets of the misleading nature of dreams and nightmares. His blinking in and out of visibility at greater distances a reference to his overall surreal nature and being invisible while carrying another survivor (using Pill Bottle Add-on) is a direct reference to the moments in the films when Freddy invisibly drags characters who seem to levitate up the walls and across the ceiling in gruesome deaths, that would be Tina Grey's death in the original film, Julie's death in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Kris' death in the 2010 remake. The blood pools themselves are references to the stairways which turn to mush beneath nancy's feet in the original nightmare, the blood hallway in the 2010 remake, and the chest of souls in Nightmare 4 (the implication is that the blood pools contain the trapped souls of Freddy's victims).

The short of it is there is a LOT more thought and effort that went into Freddy's kit that people give the devs credit for.

And I could go on and on like this for many of the other licensed characters but frankly I burned myself out writing about Freddy, and I'm sure you get what I mean by now.

Licensed characters are not as limited as you'd think and just because we're familiar with them and can more easily predict what their powers are likely to be doesn't necessarily make them any less creative or unique within the context of the game itself.

There's a lot lot more to say about your comment but I've burned myself out on it at least for the moment and I'd like to respond to a few others.

    @Boss said:

Sorry if this is too off-topic, but is there a horror icon from more recent times in movie-, serie- or videogame media that's REALLY iconic?

And not something that started long ago and still continues today, like the HALLOWEEN movies.

Uhhhhh, the Aliens from A Quiet Place? The Blind Man from Don't Breathe? Wait- Stranger Things, I would say Stranger Things is iconic- a little bit.

It's an interesting question- but the point is that Dead By Daylight is more or less a tribute to the slasher genre most popular from the 70's to the 90's, and similar horror that grew out of that environment in those decades. It's why I and many others want to see characters that came from that place in time, there's a culture about it that is more memorable, authentic, and original. Not to say that culture was any better or worse then, just to say that slasher horror specifically was at its peak around this time.

It's also that many of these characters never got the proper opportunity to be revitalized in the interactive and immersive medium that is video games- on a level that films cannot achieve (again, not to say films are any better or worse in general- just to say that interactivity is the most successful purpose and aspect of games today). This isn't true for every character on the list- The Predator, Jason, the Xenomorph have all found their way into video games in some form or another (the quality of said games however, is entirely debatable) but Pennywise? Candyman? Pinhead? The Thing?? Chucky??? Not that I know of personally, although their legacies may have influenced future video games (The Thing - Deceit). But the characters themselves are what I'd like to I'd like to see translated into video games to be interacted with in a fundamentally brand new way that they never have before.

That's personally the reason why I value the presence of those characters more than other licenses- for example if Nemesis never came to Dead By Daylight- that's okay because I could still play RE3 remake and experience The Nemesis through that title. A better example might be Mr. X from RE2 remake, since he's not even in DBD and again that's okay too. Obviously this extends to other licenses like Fnaf, Slenderman, etc.

    @MadLordJack said:

They already have the major slasher icons except Jason, which they can't get. All the rest aren't really "slasher" or "icons".

Seriously, there's really not that many recognisable horror characters. Freddy, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Jason. Those are the ones that you can show a picture of to a random person in the street and at least have them say "oh, that's whatsisname from the dumb movie!"

And Ghostface is questionable to be on that list.

Edit: To clarify, this is a game built around the "slasher" concept, so those are the only lisences they're really obliged to try and go for.

In the original post I never used the word slasher icon, since Dead By Daylight has kind of broadened its horizons from humble beginnings to encompass the horror thematic in a much more general overall sense. However, I'd like to point out that in order to qualify as a slasher you just have to use a slashing (cutting) instrument, ex: hag has claws which still "Slash" even if its not your traditional knife or machete or whatever. And indeed likewise, many of the characters listed have access to slashing instruments: Predator has his wristblades, Chucky himself most iconically uses a generic knife (he's seen holding one on some of the most recognizable cover art for Child's Play), Candyman has a literal hook in place of his cut off hand, Pinhead levitates hooks attached to chains, The Xenomorph has sharp claws, teeth, and a tail whip, and Pennywise iconically turns his innocently harmless white gloved hand into werewolf claws.

The only character on the list that doesn't have conventional slashing instruments is The Thing, but that's just too spectacularly well crafted of an iconic horror movie to not consider for Dead By Daylight. Also it'd fit the role of the requested shapeshifter killer the community has been requesting since 2016 (if the devs can just put the thought and energy into making it work- even if its a secondary power that isn't the sole focus of the kit) which is why people want to see The Thing.

Also also and more importantly, "iconic" is used very loosely in DBD simply for the fact that Horror itself as an entire genre (meaning everything, Slashers, Paranormal horror, Thrillers, everything) is in itself, a niche genre. Understandably, not everybody is into being scared (insert some whiney guy saying "dBd iSnT EvEn HoRrOr") and the target audience for horror is much smaller than say action or comedy films. So iconic is used more loosely, just because there are frankly many, many, many more people that don't watch horror than people who do. I could show pictures of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees to my parents who were both born in the late 60's and they probably wouldn't be able to tell you who the characters were except that they looked familiar but didn't know their names and are just "those creepy serial killer guys", just because they never watched those films and got into that kind of thing.

Also also also and even more importantly: Ghostface's position on that list is entirely well deserved and cemented as an iconic figure of horror- The Scream Films singlehandedly revitalized slashers through smart films that both parodied and immersed themselves within the well known conventions and tropes of a slasher film.

Mathieu Cote, game director put it perfectly in the Behind The Scenes video for Chapter XII - Ghostface uploaded to Youtube:

"If you take any random people out there and you ask what's their list of the top ten killers in the world of horror- Ghostface is gonna be somewhere in there."

And Creative Director Dave Richard said in much more blatant terms:

"Ghostface is a character that's been requested so often by the community, and we're so stoked that we finally have him in game. Ghostface is- is a legend."

Thank you for voicing your feedback, but nobody else seems to have a problem in understanding this post, so maybe... it's just you? Glhf

Sorry, I need proof of your imagination. Otherwise it doesn't exist. 😤

  • Nice doubling down. I feel like it was a really simple request but if you don't want to answer or just can't answer because it's beyond you ok.

That's the idea, I didn't want to be too specific. Use your imagination. If you can't, then I dunno how to help ya there.

But yeah I agree a bit with what I think you're trying to say there, the inconsistency between characters and their lore can be frustrating. Adam, for example, is a teacher in Japan but hardly has any sophisticated outfits minus his default and maybe the 80s collection. I would hope he would get more formalwear at some point.

And the Felix part was a joke, but hey I mean female survivors often get different colors of hair, why not some fellas too? Aside from the odd ones given to David and Jake...

If you're writing a poll- I would first suggest not insulting the people that take the time to respond, especially for petty and subjective things like "imagination" in regards to the question that you've posed which you're trying to get them to answer. I'm not allowed to ask for a bit of clarity on the poll you wrote???

Instead- perhaps provide some examples of what you consider is a good example / representative / fit for each category?

But no- your ambiguous and opaque language is somehow the fault of my imagination. Ok.

  • It's not a surprise that once again Disconnections have run rampant and gone out of hand when the penalties were disabled again. They're actively ruining normal matches for survivors but also for killers as well who most of the time just want to play a normal match.

I had a game sometime recently where three people (including me) all got hooked once, and another guy actually got his second hook before the 4th guy was even downed. We were maybe halfway through the match with 3 gens left and in decent standing- this dude hadn't even been hooked yet he had zero hooks.

As soon as he goes down on the ground he immediately disconnects.

It was actually some of the most baby behavior I had ever seen in a long long while.

Needless to say once we lost our 4th hopes of escape were quickly dashed away and the killer cleaned us up pretty decent after that. Though I think we gave it a good effort and managed to get the generators done or had one generator left just before we all died.

######### that guy. EDIT: Strange- did they get rid of the profanity filter on these here forums??

  • Absolutely not.

There is actually 0 chance in a million years and I say this without a hint of sarcasm, irony, or doubt. And I reasonably believe most of the community will also attest to the same sentiment.

There's a reason things like that went away when DS finally (after nearly five years) received it's ultimate and most significant rework and very, very, very good reason at that.

  • For some God Forsaken reason I've actually seen more Wraith's recently than any other killer on the entire roster- both at lower ranks when I'm playing in SWF with rank 20 friends who don't play often enough to get higher, and at high ranks when I'm queuing by myself with other reds.

I'm assuming it's because people are actually getting on board with the idea that Wraith is in a LOT better of a position than he was at any point before. All the way back to undetectable status effect now no longer allowing aura reading perks to read the auras of perks, the speed boost coming out of cloak is a decent anti loop tool, he's got increased movement speed while cloaked now, he's completely invisible to survivors more than 20 meters away, and on top of it all he's actually got some really good add-ons as well: which can reduce his disappearance or reappearance time, muffle the distance / direction or complete sound of the wailing bell itself, increase action speeds like vaulting or breaking while cloaked, increase movement speed on top of the base boost provided while cloaked, suppress his terror radius + red stain coming out of cloak (one of my personal favorites and Lord Only Knows how it's a common add-on), and aura reading for survivors while cloaked.

Wraith is actually sitting pretty comfortably at a mid or mid-to-high tier I would say.

All that being said Hillbilly is still better of course- and I'm still of the mindset that people vastly overreacted and are still overreacting to his nerf (the cooldown is not harsh at all) he's still got the best map mobility of the three, and access to an instant down. Just those two things alone are enough to put him above many killers in the game, and that includes his peers of the original three.

Seeing as how Ash's show got shut down due to lack of funding, him having a tome would be a great way to expand on the lore and wrap up his story.

This, for the love of God this ^^^

Ash Vs. Evil Dead fans need some kind of closure T_T it's so unfortunate Campbell hung up the Saw in the way that he did. Ash deserves this more than any other character on the list.

  • For the first time in its history after some 2 or 3 separate significant changes and many more minor changes between those on top I think Decisive Strike is actually in a good state. Which is a big thing to say I'd like to think because this perk has been out since 2016, it's been in a poor state with valid reason for criticism since 2016, and I personally spoke a lot about the perk on the forums and in other places for about that length of time as well (not since 2016- I was garbage back then so I didn't really care for the nuance of balance).

It does what it's intended to do, it's an anti-tunneling perk that still serves it's purpose and people no longer talk about that crappy and forced shift in perspective calling it an "anti-momentum" perk in an effort to avoid it getting nerfed. As far as I've seen you can't really use it for super aggressive purposes anymore (although you probably can still use it to be slightly more aggressive in protecting other people for a short time after you're unhooked but you can't heal or unhook people without sacrificing the effect of the perk so even this is limited).

Although I still think that getting into a locker should have been an added condition that would deactivate the perk- enough was done to fix it's more pressing core issues and concerns that I'm willing to concede this final little nitpick.

I'm very happy that DS was finally changed, and the people that run it, much like I and many others always said, it's still in a powerful state and viable condition to be used so they should also still be happy that it wasn't gutted like they thought it would be. That's not something anybody ever asked for when they requested changes for DS- the intention was never to gut the perk- only to reign it in so it's used for it's proper purpose and only it's proper purpose and absolutely nothing more or less. That was finally achieved when the devs implemented the fix more or less verbatim as the community requested for months and months. And it's great to see the community's efforts result in actual tangible changes to the game, which is an event that sometimes happens too infrequently and far between.

  • Real answer (probably): Spirit

    My answer: Plague

Honorable mention / bonus answer: Pyramid Head

  • I didn't have any knowledge about the backrooms previous to this thread, after reading them I suppose I can imagine it as a unique kind of horror in a literary sense or even in a Stephen King-like film, but in Dead By Daylight it seems like a very, very, odd choice...

Also indoor maps have a bad reputation amongst most of the community for their gameplay (which is pretty ironic- since I distinctly remember a time when the community begged to have their first creepy indoor maps added to the game like the classic decrepit hospital or abandoned warehouse or an eerie mansion).

This seems like it'd be the most indoor of all indoor maps with very little hope for a rework without sacrificing the aesthetic aspects of the map. Tight- identical rooms one after the other just incessantly repeating amongst themselves would probably be filled with some of the worst and best kinds of pallets- useless ones that might be in the center of the rooms and super powerful ones that exist along the doorways themselves. There'd also be very few if any sightlines across the map itself and you'd likely suffer from the problem of a killer being stuck with an area of interest right next to them like a generator about to be completed but they need to go all the way around a super long wall or other obstacle to get to where they want to.

So not sure, very on the fence about this one. But there's no poll option available for "on the fence" / "maybe" / "unsure".

  • I feel like the poll options are a bit too vague and ambiguous for me to make a clear call. What would you consider "normal / casual clothing"? What's the difference between "fancy unrealistic clothing" and "fancy realistic clothing"? Where do we draw the line of realism, and what is considered realistic or not??

I can't even really say Lore-Related cosmetics either because the lore is being written as the game continues, so we can't even exactly predict the kinds of outfits different characters will get without just flat out speculating. For example I never would have guessed that Ace's "lore-related cosmetic" would have been some casual, fight-club esque clothes he wore to a bar one day where he would attempt to settle a bet. On the one hand I actually do like the story and the outfit, both have grown on me since they were first released and I use them more often than some of the other cosmetics he's got available to him. On the other hand I was really hoping for something else that felt more "Ace": for example what is now the Ace Vegas outfit- I could totally see on the rift, and a story focused on Ace gambling in Las Vegas would have been perfect for the rift.

    Not what we got.

So yeah, I guess I'll just vote for normal / casual clothing? Whatever that would entail...

Also, I like Felix's hair, and I don't see what's wrong with it. Beyond I suppose being more visible in your matches? Besides the hair bug I don't really see how that would make a truly significant difference- and if the problem is really just aesthetic than I'd say I like how the hair is currently.

  • I selected the poll option too quick because I missed that "other" was an option. As much as I like Sydney Prescott- I actually think there is one representative from the Scream franchise that would be a better candidate: Randy Meeks.

An all time favorite character of mine from the franchise but also an all time fan favorite and popular character, and Jamie Kennedy actually won the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actor for his performance as the character in Scream 2.

There are just a lot of things that align better for his inclusion than Sidney's imo- though I know that Sidney is more recognizable, I'll never stop hoping that Randy Meeks will be recognized for the great character he is.

I've been an Ace Main ever since Of Flesh and Mud released in 2016- but Randy would actually be the one character that would make me pause and consider switching mains. There's nobody else out there licensed or otherwise that I think could do that.

  • I'm not even entirely certain what this complaint is about but I will point out one thing, visual design is entirely different and unique for every single character. So to group all of them into two separate categories based on gender is both a false connection as well as an overgeneralization, since OP is basically saying that they all have the same visual design or at least the same intention, which they don't. (And as numerous people have pointed out- Trickster [A Male Character] proves this)

Take a look at Clown for example: one of the central themes which surrounds his character is overindulgence. It's described in his lore that he once was an athletic young man who "grew tall and strong, excelling at track events" however, (likely due to the poor home environment and family dynamic having a father with a bad drinking habit) eventually overindulged in his own bad habits. It's quite blatantly laid out in the lore: "Drinks, junk food, drugs, he indulged in all of them to excess." and this included his propensity to kill: "the rush" of power he felt over a victim lording his natural athleticism and greater body weight to overpower his victims and indulging in these vices without restraint, hesitation, or a second thought. The Clown's design reflects this and his overindulgence is reflected through his base appearance, the great big belly a physical representation of the unhealthy lifestyle he led, and the collection of fingers at his side a manifestation of the dark desires and impulses he indulges in.

Whereas another killer, let's look at a female one- such as Huntress focuses on an entirely different set of thematic ideas, raised in isolation after the trauma of losing her only family member (her mother) on a dangerous hunt, she grew up outside of a normal societal framework and lacked the opportunity to form any real significant social connections. The Huntress is very much like the wildlife around her, she's of a strong, muscular build and frame necessary to survive in the feral wilderness and her eyes are very much the same way: pitch black and animal-like which makes her connection to the beasts of nature all the stronger. This is all contrasted by the gentle image of a white (or brown) hare which she wears to cover her face, an innocent image which reflects her naive mental state which is implied to have never matured after her trauma as a child. It is also a comforting image rather than menacing, the symbol of a rabbit meant to provide solace and console the young girls which she kidnaps due to an awakened motherly instinct, making the mask all the more unnerving.

These two characters are drastically different and predictably because of this they look drastically different, the grotesque appearance of the Clown is quite simply not meant or fitting for the character of huntress because of the disparate motivations and personalities, which culminate into their overall character as they fit into the environments and frames of their own stories.

I would argue this is true of at least most characters in Dead By Daylight who revolve around their own different story elements and ideas if not every single one of them.
