  • Can there be a middle option of maybe / not sure? I'm really on the fence about this one. I think watching one of Yerv's videos where he talked about it he brought me around a little bit to the idea because it definitely does fit his character as being more playfully psychotic / sadistic. The character actually enjoys killing and unlike the killers, is probably the most happy about being in the realm of the entity so he really is the most evil of them all in a really twisted way. Imagining Derp Face leaning around a corner, I will admit would be pretty great.

On the flip side, I am a firm believer in the seriousness of Dead By Daylight, and anybody who thinks otherwise either doesn't have the right perspective or is purely desensitized to DBD's horror factor. Let me explain:

Every cosmetic that is in the game can be explained from a storytelling perspective and is not comical (except in the form of dark humor) in any way. I could create a mini story to explain the existence of any cosmetic and I'll do it with a few major examples that people might think cause the game to lose it's fear factor.

In Dead By Daylight's lore the whole game is based on the central antagonist: the Entity. It has the power to pull people from our reality (and other parallel dimensions with worlds much like our own [see the many worlds theory]). Although it is attracted to extreme scenes of violence for it's killers survivors seem to stumble into it by accident or circumstance. Each cosmetic tells a different story upon the circumstance where that character was picked up from.

On the surface and without any context, seeing Scoops Ahoy Steve running through the fog might be funny. But create a story for it and it suddenly makes much more sense, say Steve was driving home from work at the mall one day after closing, he's wearing the work outfit, the hat, and it's dark on the lonely backwood road. All of a sudden, a silhouette appears against his headlights and without thinking he swerves to avoid the figure standing in the road crashing into a tree. The hood of the car crumples, the air bag smashes into his face and he jostles in the car, because like many teens, he forgot to put his seatbelt on. His face is bruised, he's bleeding, and groaning he looks up to see who he had just taken a beating for to avoid killing. A man, in a toothed mask, holding a machete, and a beartrap, he slowly approaches. Steve, taking the hint gets out of the car and makes a break for it in the woods, not stopping to look back, or even take the hat off. Where he is whisked away by the entity

Think shirtless David doesn't fit? Think again. After another brutal night of pit fighting, beating people up and getting beaten up for cash. David steps out onto the lamp lit, cobbled streets, the cold london air stings his bruised knuckles still wrapped from the numerous bouts he participated in. Not bothering to put the sleeveless tee back on, he swings it over his shoulder and takes a swig from the bottle he's holding by the neck and begins his walk back to his apartment, alone. Not that he should worry, he just won every fight tonight, except for the bloke who cheated by hitting him in the throat and going for his legs. He'll get him next time though, next time, he'll be ready. A shadow interrupts the visual silence of the empty street, and David barely had enough time to dodge the punch that came flying. A coward in a devil mask, trying to make an easy score, but David wasn't about to lose a second time tonight. Landing a solid punch and a knee to the gut he sneered, easily catching a gloved hand aimed at his face by the wrist. The triumph was short lived however, when he felt the metal ease into his ribs, the grin fading when the knife found its mark. With a gasp from the victim, it sinks home, is withdrawn and the blood gushes forth. He started into the vacant eyes before him, painted crimson and adorned with horns, the mask glowed with a new malevolence. A gloved fist raised and struck, and that's when everything went black.

Neon outfits don't fit? Think about this: It was loud in secluded building, loud in every way that Nea didn't like. The noise, the flashing lights of almost every color, blue turned into purple, purple into red, synchronized with the beat of the music, the uproar of the crowd. She rolled her eyes from her corner and tried to look distracted in her phone, ignoring the guy who had been staring at her for the past five minutes from the bar. She tried shooting him dirty looks, but he apparently hadn't gotten the hint through her amber tinted glasses. "I thought raves were supposed to be fun" she thought "guess not." Getting up, she pulled the cropped teal hoodie with pink accents down as far it could go, stretching it out to cover her a bit more, she needed a bit of air. Save for the muted blaring coming from inside the giant building, it was quiet out here, isolated, comfortable even, away from prying eyes. Rounding the corner and stepping back, her eyes gleamed at the empty wall next to her, how perfect a canvas it would make for some graffiti she thought. The door behind her opened a second time and she looked back to see the same annoying guy, recognizable by his own lightweight hoodie with neon stripes. Only this time, he had a bandana pulled up over his face, with circles cut out for the eyes and a neon X at about the neckline. Her spine chilled, there was something off about him, something not quite right that's when something caught her eye: a curved piece of metal, no not metal, a knife. A karambit in his right hand in an icepick grip, after a quick flip he raised it in the air and without a word sprinted full tilt toward her. That was a definite cue to dip, and rounding the corner she hit the metal staircase that ran alongside the building running, and dropped down from there to the ground below.

Dwight with windswept hair and a parachute doesn't work? What if I told you Dwight was taking a vacation out of the country, he needed a break from the tedious nature of work and his dead-end job. He wanted to see the world, try new things, bring color to his world of monotonous grey. So he left the use to see the Red square, eat Pączki, maybe meet some girls, on his trip he even signed up for parachuting, an activity normally out of character for the meek, Dwight Fairfield. What he didn't realize about his instructors were that while they were experienced, they were not licensed to be taking anybody up 13,000 feet to jump out of a plane. Dwight wasn't even hooked up to a tandem instructor, they packed his chute and Jumped out simultaneously - separately. It was thrilling for the first 30 seconds until when he pulled the chute, a gust of wind sent him spiraling in the opposite direction toward a dense forest. Crashing through thick brush and branches Dwight was tangled up in the trees, long enough to catch his breath and steady himself from the terrifying experience. Only for a moment, before he heard something snap and he was sent careening to the forest floor. Dusting himself off, and sloppily repacking his parachute, he found himself lost with no sense of direction and no civilization in sight. Seeing smoke in the distance he headed towards it to find a hut, empty, save for the trophies of a hunter, with giant deer antlers hanging from a wall. Off in the distance, he saw a figure, he called for help relieved to finally meet someone who could point him to safety. He later regretted it, when an axe came whirling straight for his head, just barely missing it knocked into the wood fo the hut and sent Dwight scurrying back into the forest.

Think Elephant Clown is funny? Say that again when you're stuck in an alleyway at 3AM with a 6ft tall fat man holding a knife in an elephant suit with buggy eyes. (done writing stories, if you've read this far you get the point).

Now take all these characters, teleport them into a single realm such as autohaven wreckers where they don't know what's going on and they have to work together or die together to escape a chainsaw wielding maniac. That's Dead By Daylight, not so out of theme anymore now is it

(In retrospect this might have been overkill, but I took the time writing it so I'm just gonna post it, w/e)

  • Who wouldn't like the new tease??

(That being said I'm not sure how effective it will be, considering typically if a trap is disarmed survivors know where it is and are less likely to fall back into it again. You want to be pretty dynamic with your traps and constantly moving them to different positions, even if they're really close to the original spot you can still catch someone by surprise.)

Glad Trapper is getting some more love and attention is all, he is basically the mascot of the game after all.

  • If you say yes you're either inexperienced, or just bad.

-P3 Ghostface main when I'm not playing Ace as survivor

  • Glad to see my fellow 2016 veterans still pulling through with our vast experience and knowledge. Very proud to have been here since practically the beginning. I was paying attention to news about this game shortly before it's release and I saved up the money to get it maybe 3 weeks after it released in June. My first achievement is dated sometime in July

  • wow 50 / 50 split as of the time I'm commenting. 15 yes and 15 no votes

Unfortunately the clown still absolutely sucks, and in my opinion is the killer in most desperate need of and most deserving of a gigantic buff and / or rework. However, the Clown has always been my favorite killer in terms of theme, aesthetic, tone, background / lore, etc. despite how bad he is he's actually really smooth to play and it makes his gameplay fun (but no less frustrating [I know these are contradictory statements, deal with it]) in my opinion.

And to see such a great cosmetic like Mr. Puddles come out just makes me want to play him all the more. It's honestly one of the creepiest outfits to come out imo, can you imagine such a big guy holding a knife in an elephant costume follow you into a back alleyway at 3AM? ######### huge Zoinks from me right there

  • This is a pretty loaded question, considering the devs already do both. To say otherwise is just straight up naive

  • None. The fnaf animatronics shouldn't be taking away spots for more deserving characters like Pennywise, Pinhead, Chucky, The Candyman, The Xenomorph, The Predator, (even Jason Voorhees) etc. Characters who have decades of history and are more than worthy to be honored in the halls of horror.

Not to mention the absolutely epic original characters that behavior comes up with.

The Fnaf animatronics are more on par with creepypastas like Slenderman and Jeff the Killer. Not to be taken very seriously

If I had to choose though I would have to agree with everyone who is saying Springtrap is the only that fits tonally since he is the killer who hid in the suit. That's a HUGE maybe though, and only in a hypothetical where we were forced to pick one.

  • Ace - Ladies man, Suave, Sophisticated, Smooth-talking silver tongue, with quick hands and quicker fingers, charming, charismatic, and one lucky bastard whose heart always belonged to the cards.

    😉

  • I would say it's a 60 / 40 between "I prefer Stealthy" and "It depends on my mood". For example just yesterday I was doing the archive challenge to get four pallet stuns, so I switched up my build to something that would really attract attention: DS, Mettle of Man, Object of Obsession, and Adrenaline. Combine that with wearing P3 clothes and you bet your butt I was getting tunneled with how outwardly cocky my character looked.

Unfortunately I was tossed into a match with a Huntress so it didn't really work out :( I got it the next match though.

Naturally however, I lean into a stealth playstyle and frequently find myself pulling stealthy shmoves on the killer rather than just bolting for the nearest pallet.

  • Camaraderie is way underrated. I would like to see the radius it activates in buffed to maybe 24m but aside from this it's an actual good perk.

Personally I've never ever gotten second wind to work (although that statement holds less weight when considering I've tried using it maybe 3 times) that being said my statement still stands it's far more situational than a perk like Camaraderie which is extremely useful in solo queue. Even when I have second wind activated I often find a heal before the passive even takes effect, so..

  • Camaraderie is a literal lifesaver, I'm not even joking you don't even understand how great this perk actually is. People think "it's situational" but it's really not, the whole idea of the struggle phase is once that timer goes out, you're dead. So to be able to extend that phase by an entire 34 flipping seconds at tier 3 is literally a GODSEND.

They could easily buff the perk by increasing the range that it activates, currently it activates when another survivor is within 16 meters so buffing it to be slightly bigger, maybe 24m that would be epic.

Of course I'm thinking of solo queue, (which is normally how I play although I do have a group of friends I play with every now and then to be epic 4 man squad gamers). It's not as necessary if you're secure in the knowledge of having a team you can communicate with

    Comments on the other options:

No Mither is a troll perk, if we're talking serious gameplay in solo queue it doesn't matter what other perks you try and synergize it with, Resilience, Prove thyself, Tenacity, Deliverance, Iron Will, doesn't matter. You're such a massive detriment to your team and a huge disservice to yourself if you try and run it in serious solo queue at high ranks.

If you're running it in a 4-man squad and you're not playing as seriously, you might be able to (surprisingly) make it work. But it's really not viable otherwise in terms of how the game is originally meant to be played (4 random people, with no communication).

For whoever says it removes slugging, it doesn't. No killer is ever going to give you the opportunity to use that part of it's ability because everybody including the killer knows you're running it from the get go. You'd have to go up against someone really stupid or in low ranks to pull it off successfully (IE almost never in normal gameplay). EDIT: I recognize the synergistic potential with DS, but considering DS only works once I wouldn't call this combo reliable.

Deja Vu is really nice for greater map awareness, preventing the killer from chaining up 3 gens is always good, especially in solo queue when no one is coordinating.

Technician is nice but there are other perks out there that I would rather fit into a stealth build together. Iron Will, Calm Spirit, Urban Evasion, and Spine Chill, although a few of these can be swapped around for perks like Quick and Quiet, Fixated, Poised, Distortion, etc. All of these perks I would take over technician, especially since you have to be on a generator alone to make it work, otherwise the guy fixing it right next to you will be making loud noise so it won't even matter. Needs to be buffed, underwhelming by comparison

None, ghost face is trash and needs a nerf not another cosmetic.

Ghostface has plenty of counterplay not to mention requires actual skill to use properly and effectively especially in comparison to the other stealth killers.

That being said that is not what this thread is about and your comment has no place on this thread. Stay on track or please don't comment

Its cool but the classic ghostface will always be enough for me.

    Just awesome

It'll be enough for me when the fix the flipping arm tatters covering 50% or more of the right side of the screen. Seriously, it takes me out of the immersion of being classic Ghostface so much, I hardly wear it. It would be my primary outfit of choice out of the current 3 if that wasn't a problem

Real easy fix would be to move those parts up the sleeve so they're still on the character but don't block any sight-lines.

I mean in a worse case than Friday 13th, say it all went to pot and the games servers shut and there was no more Dead By Daylight. How would you feel?

I am actually seriously contemplating retiring from DBD. As I have mentioned in various posts: I just don't have fun anymore. In fact, I feel frustrated and irritated, usually after a single game of DBD. So if it all ended tomorrow, I wouldn't care. I would be a bit miffed that I had spent a considerable bit of money on DLC, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I am not buying the Premium Pass for Tome 2. Main reasons being that the challenges are too time consuming and the unlockables are subpar. I don't want to be sitting on my backside for hours on end in the hopes of completing a frustrating challenge in order to unlock re-coloured cosmetic items. Sod that.

But I guess there are those who still find it fun and invest in the game. But if you didn't have it...would you be bothered?

Unlockables are subpar?? Somebody really be sleeping on that Elephant clown cosmetic..

In the first place it's really cool that community creations are beginning to find their way into DBD in some form or another, and to read you disregard that completely just kinda rubs the wrong way.

I like it! Zombie ghostface is a mask in production that can be found in the wild

I think they're both cool but I think I really like the scarecrow one so much better because it completely changes the color scheme of Ghostface. Typically, like in the cosmetics we've already received, the mask changes color but the shroud / cloak for the most part stays the same, completely black or mostly black.

With the Scarecrow one the scheme completely changes to brown, and a lighter tan color for the hood / mask. With a rope tied around the waist rather than a sash, I could imagine a movie scene where ghostface stays perfectly still like a scarecrow in a farm setting as a character nervously approaches from behind, and he whips around revealing the classically terrifying mask, and stabs them. Too bad this never showed up in the movies

But maybe in Dead By Daylight? Please?

Or just in general make the gen repair speed a bit slower.

Almost every killer takes ruin, and because the devs can find decent hiding spots, it's mostly gone within 60 seconds from the start of the match.

If it stays on longer than the killer is lucky and it either stands in a decent spot or the survivors aren't looking for it.

I didn't think about this but the idea to make generators just really slow instead of blocking them off completely might also be viable.

A camper who uses this perk guarantees it will benefit them though, even with your edit. So killer camps first hook,....survivors pop one gen and then any above 50% are blocked. They then run around spending time to find an unblocked gen, and spend the remainder of the hooked survivors death on that gen. I don’t get how this doesn’t massively boost a camper. I get what you are going for, but it doesn’t work. Like I said you have to account for bad killers who would abuse it.

I mean sure, but if I came to you with the concept of NOED if it didn't already exist in the game you would say the same thing, "no it can be abused by killers who camp during the endgame collapse and there is no hope for a survivor trying to be rescued". Yet despite this, the perk still exists and has largely remained unchanged.

There are plenty of perks that can be used to help campers camp, and there are plenty of perks for survivors that help combat camping. Exhausted perks reset after being hooked so you can sprint burst right away, metal of man and borrowed time prevent survivors from being put into the dying state, we'll make it can actually heal a survivor quickly enough that they can get back to full health right off the hook and so on and so forth etc. etc.

This is not a valid enough reason I feel to stop the implementation of the perk just because some players might camp.

  • @inferjus said:

The game is too grindy for BP penalty and too buggy for disconnect bans. Game should be fixed in the first place so you do not meet with bugs that force you to disconnect and should not have any BP penalties since this game is so grindy.

Valid point, though I think they are working on fixing the issues of people suffering disconnection penalties when they really were forced out of the game because it crashed or because the task stopped responding, or they were experiencing an infinite loading screen.

I don't think such a feature shouldn't be considered just because of some bugs or system issues that are likely to be patched out in the near future.

  • @Karl_Childers said:

Sounds like a meta perk for campers. Stand in front of a hook and now when one gen pops, no others can be worked on. No thanks lol.

Like many other suggestions around here that have to do with gens, campers (and tunnelers) need to be accounted for.

I've responded to this concern before, it's important to keep in mind that you as the killer have absolutely no control over when the timer would start, unlike a perk like Thrilling Tremors which starts whenever you pick a survivor up. It is up to survivors to finish a generator to get Harrowing Fate to become active, when it does go up you might not be near a single survivor. You wouldn't be able to micromanage the perks effect in such a way that you would be able to successfully camp a survivor for the full duration of the perk.

That being said points like these make it increasingly likely that the nerfed version of the perk would make its way into the live build rather than the original version (See edit at bottom of the thread). This version will still be able to stop a hard gen rush and multiple generators popping in quick succession, however it will not block off generators with progress underneath 50% so survivors can still repair other generators and get progress.

  • Technically 2 escaping and 2 deaths is a tie, and according to behaviour that's the perfect balance they're looking for, which I agree with.

So if 2 escapes is a tie then 3 or more escaping is a "win" for the survivor team.

But if I escape I really don't care how many of my team comes with me, sure I'll try and help them out because helping them helps me out, (and I also get bloodpoints for helping them out) but at the end of the day DBD is almost an inherently selfish game. At the very least for solo players anyway (which I am most of the time)

  • I was expecting a lot more support for Pennywise so I'm surprised to see there's this much traction for the Xenomorph (although take my "this much traction" statement with a grain of salt because it's really only four people who have voted at the time I write this)

After the Demogorgon's release I can see The Alien making it into the game, he'd probably walk sorta similar to the demogorgon but I have no idea what his power would be. The Oni and Hillbilly have really taken the spots for killers with increased Mobility so I can't say he'd scitter on all fours super fast as an ability otherwise that'd just be repetitive. The Pig / Demogorgon / Oni also have a lunge / ambush attack covered as well so he can't really have that either.

Which is why I'm voting for pennywise, there's so much you can do with a character like Pennywise similar to how there's so much you can do with a character like Freddy Krueger. I've seen ideas around the community about Pennywise setting up Red Balloons all over the map and that kind of thing and that seems really interesting

I just think Pennywise still has more potential than the rest of the roster here.

  • See, I know for a fact that the Hag is better than Trapper, however,

I just have more fun playing Trapper. And this isn't saying Trapper is bad because he's not, he's always been the average standard that every killer is compared against sorta kinda so he's always put around C tier in tier lists. But when Trapper works and you're catching like 6+ survivors in bear traps man is that satisfying.

So fun factor, giving it to the Trapper. At the very, very least Trapper's Traps can't be straight up ignored, if the survivors are really pressuring you as a Hag and they're just running past your Phantasms without a second thought you're basically screwed as Hag, but you can't do that to a trapper. Even disarming takes a quick second and sometimes you just don't have the time to disarm a trap in a chase because trapper is right on you.

Trapper is a herder, a good trapper herds survivors like ignorant sheep and lamb into his traps and its hella fun and satisfying to see a loop just straight up nope'd.

Generally and on average, yeah the hag is better I recognize that. BUT, I'm also saying that there's a reason Trapper is the face of the game.

  • You put this in the polls category but didn't make a poll.

  • Ngl Lakewood Slasher Ghostface would be pretty poggers, before Ghostface was leaked when people were speculating how Ghostface would come out, I thought to myself I really wouldn't mind if what we had gotten was the MTV Ghostface instead of the OG. Though I knew most people wouldn't like that because they're just more familiar with the original

I won't lie the MTV series did a really good job adhering to the theme of original source material, but still modernizing it for a younger audiences and new societal norms which change "the rules to surviving a horror movie". Which Scream 4 did back in 2011, but technology, social media, pop culture and how it relates to the horror that Scream tried to create for audiences changed so much since then and the MTV series did a great job of captivating that.

Really close second would have to be Wes Craven's New Nightmare Freddy, but I figured more people would be familiar with and support that one in the votes so I had to lend my support to my boi Ghostface (the scream movies were what got me into the slasher genre in the first place anyway). I wasn't wrong either

  • I mean, the implication here is that they can't do both, which again, as I've said time and time again because people don't listen:

    T h a t ' s n o t h o w t h a t w o r k s

The dev team is broken up into separate teams, and two of those teams are focused on producing new content, and reworking / bug fixing / balancing / generally improving existing content which currently exists.

  • I notice neither the Hag nor the Oni are on this list of answers for the poll despite the fact both are probably on the more viable end of the list of these killers.

And Huntress is free. So she shouldn't be on the list in the first place

  • This is very much a biased poll, but ok

  • It's a bit ironic considering he's my killer main, but whenever I'm playing against a Ghostface I'm always on edge and I get pretty uneasy. The same applies to most every stealth killer, but Ghostface primarily because he's the best out of them all

In terms of concept or look however, I think the Spirit has got to be one of the creepiest moving around with those sliced up limbs phasing in and out of existence. I'd flip and lose my ######### if I saw that IRL, The Clown also pretty spooky, really don't like Clowns. Demogorgon also pretty terrifying both in real life and with all the shrieking and roaring going on in game.

  • Isn't "story mode" basically the archives? Just in general these poll options seem kind of wacko, I thought they were going to be about the things that the devs put in that survey awhile back.

Stuff like a crafting system, clans, and a bunch of other stuff that I can't even remember but it all sounded super cool.

  • Honestly, I really like all of these, except for Despair. It's a nice idea but that little of an effect for only for 30 seconds? That's a bit underwhelming for killing or sacrificing a whole survivor

Jinx would also need a buff because I think those status effects really aren't all that impactful. I think Luck just generally needs a rework to be more comprehensive and have more of an impact, I really like the idea of the Luck status effect it just needs to be better.

Aside from that, these are all epic ideas that I could see definitely making it in game.

  • ######### rest in peace kindred. I'm a solo (most of the time) and I can guarantee you I'm never using the perk again if this change goes through, why the ######### you gonna be nerfing off-meta perks in the first place!? You're encouraging a constant un-shifting meta of the same old Sprint Burst, Self Care, Dead Hard, Adrenaline, Balanced landing (let's be real, despite the nerf it's still gonna be a meta perk), etc. rather than increased perk diversity!!

Had the change they made been in ADDITION to the current effect, sort of like how Dark Sense was buffed so it was when any generator popped not just when you were working on one, this would have been great. So then it would be when any survivor is hooked including yourself, not just yourself, this would be great and I would probably run it way more often.

But what they did is complete dog #########, normally I don't criticize the devs and normally their balance passes on old perks are great, but this is just garbage. Kindred was a perk FOR SOLO PLAYERS YOU MONGOLOIDS, and now you want to take that away, #########. Wasn't the whole idea to nerf SWF to buff solo players capability of information sharing in a trial?? What is this bullshit!?

Everybody else be talking about the rest of the chapter while I'm over here in my solo corner up in arms about the kindred nerf god ######### damn it.

  • I was thinking about this the other day, and I just feel that the current heights they have for killer a bit limiting. Currently they can either be "Tall" or they can be "average" with no variation in between.

Instead they should have four versions:

    Short, Average, Tall, Towering

And instead of each being limited to a specific height that the killer must apply to, each should be a range. Short could be anywhere from <1 ft tall to 4 ft 11 inches average can be anywhere from 5 ft tall to 5 ft 11 inches, tall can be anywhere from 6 ft to 7 ft 4 inches, and towering could be anywhere from 7 ft 5 inches or more. These don't have to be the exact numbers, however, it was just an illustration for what I mean by range.

This way it can put more personality into a killer, for example I know Michael Myers is a tall and lanky figure who's creepy and imposing, but he's not exactly the Hulking beast that the Oni is who should be a truly towering figure.

This would also open the door for truly short killers which I think could be an interesting addition to the game. Short killers who really wouldn't apply to "average" height, so we're talking Chucky, or the leprechaun from that one movie. The devs could use this variability to create their own unique short killers

Of course there would have to be new accommodations for these shorter killers like how would the hooks work, but I'm not here to have all the answers I'm just here to throw out some interesting ideas. I like this one in particular

  • I'm fine with the DLC, a lot of people say it's the worst even from a lore perspective but I kinda like the concept. Simple is good sometimes, and the aesthetic is very much simple, doesn't mean it's bad, it's also pretty plausible and realistic as far as the backstories of killers go.

I can't really see a CIA operative working on interrogation technique and extracting information going insane, or a nurse going crazy killing everyone in the asylum, but a group of four teenagers getting into some deep ######### and accidentally killing a guy? Sounds like if you heard that happened in real life and if you knew one of them, your jaw would drop and you'd go "that's ######### up" honestly

  • I chose "fan" rather than "love" simply because I only love slasher horror movies. Paranormal ######### doesn't interest me and the other kinds of horror out there can get kinda wacky. Alien and the Xenomorph is a pretty cool and scary concept though

But I don't like the "I wouldn't call myself a buff" part of this option, it feels a tad bit insulting.

  • The change was made to make him more streamlined alongside other stealth killers. This also makes it easier for new players to understand how the game works

It's fine the way it is.

  • Survivors don't need an embedded ability to heal themselves without using a perk slot.

I myself also kinda don't like always needing to bring SC into my survivor matches, I used to never run it but now I run it all the time, however as annoying as that can sometimes be, survivors do not need this kind of change.

  • I'm liking the bell curve going on here with how the votes are turning out.

Tbh Oni needs very few if any significant changes, and I'm more worried that they'll change him too much from the current PTB incarnation. I'd honestly rather wait until the mid-chapter patch to make any changes rather than make balance changes based off the PTB just to avoid knee jerk reactions.

Some people think he shouldn't be slowed down when collecting blood or lose his entire power when picking up a survivor off the ground, but it is these specific mechanics that I think keep him fairly balanced. You take those away and people are liable to start shouting he's OP and cause him to get nerfed even harder

He's also not the easiest to use in terms of movement, you actually kind of have to learn how to use the demon strike before being able to just one shot someone so I think this also contributes to the idea that he's pretty perfect the way he is right now.

  • I have no idea why you put good killers like Huntress, Hillbilly, Myers, and Hag into this poll grouping them with terrible killers like Cannibal, The Doctor, The Pig, and Legion. They shouldn't even be options because none of them are in dire need for changes unlike the latter killers mentioned.

It infuriates me that you left the Clown out of the poll because he is very much in dire need of changes, only one other person mentioned him in the comments because he wasn't an available option.

    That's bullshit

  • If you think Nurse is anywhere near easy to bully you either don't frequent high ranks, haven't seen an actual good Nurse before, or are overreacting.

Let me put the end all be all of this discussion:

The central game mechanic regarding chases is pallet and window looping. Running in constant circles to avoid the killer and waste as much time as possible, the Nurse can teleport right through these loops and catch survivors on either side, her power has not been changed and she is still very much the best killer in the entire game regardless of a two or three second cool down.

Anybody who says she's garbage (or anything similar) needs to stop and think how any single killer has a power that is better than the Nurse's Blink when it comes to cancelling loops and ending chases quickly.

  • See, this would have been a great idea and people thought this was how legion was going to work originally because of some of the prerelease teaser art when nobody knew what legion would do. Well, this or something similar anyway

People were very excited because they thought it was going to be a schizophrenic killer who suffered from Multiple Personality Disorder, and the killer would be able to swap between personalities either at will or because of an event (Example, every time the killer is stunned the killer becomes furious and switches to X personality).

The teaser art in question showed legion's reflection mirrored four times so people thought he might have four different personalities (though honestly two personalities would itself be cool already). There would be a cooldown after you switch personalities so you can't constantly be spam switching super quickly (there would be some kind of ultra rare add on which would allow this to happen though).

Unfortunately, isn't a reality and the truth was revealed to be far less compelling than the fantasy. The four reflections were found to actually be four separate individuals who were all part of the same group of killers: The Legion. I'll be honest, I still like what came out relatively speaking, it's just that the fan theory of a schizophrenic killer was so much more interesting.

The mechanics of giving a different power to each member of legion is something that the dev team would never do. It's been a long time since his release and this would be considered a complete overhaul which I think the devs said they're not planning on doing another one. They did it for Freddy because he's an important license and if Freddy doesn't look, feel, and play well it might look bad on their part.

The only way this would happen now is if it's a completely new and unique killer. No change for legion I'm afraid

  • The real issue I think is that it only stands on par with events like the Howling Grounds and Scorching Summer BBQ event. But even those events had some kind of personality, when generators were completed you had a light up margarita spin on top of it with these slushee machines all of it coming to life as the generator was activated, hooks with grills on their backs which would heat up and sizzle when a survivor was hooked, the infamous summer metal theme song was made for this event. Even with the Howling Grounds event you had Fireworks blast into the sky when a generator was completed, or you hooked a survivor, to celebrate the lunar new year of the dog.

The withering blight had absolutely nothing. Just these static assets of pumpkins and vines set on top of generators or next to hooks. The hooks didn't even spurt and squirt putrid serum like they did last year for the hallowed blight, for Halloween of all times of the year. The singlehandedly most important time of the year for Dead By Daylight and the devs blew it, regardless of whether it was because they got lazy, or they took on more than they could handle, if it was poor decisions, or just unlucky timing and scheduling either way the devs blew it.

  • @Hudson said:

I already had a poll for this quesstion.

Not actually comparing the two blight events, but asking if people like alternative objectives. I also dislike events that just bring "special extra bp gens" and "special extra bp hooks", since that doesn't feel like an event.

    Maybe consider voting here:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/100792/do-you-like-events-with-alternative-distrackting-objectives#latest

I voted "yes I do enjoy alternate "distracting" (secondary) objectives".

While I do believe both questions fall into the same conversation, I do think our polls start that conversation in two different places. Yours was much more general, regarding events in general, whereas mine was very much focused and specific on two (very important) out of the many events Dead By Daylight has had to celebrate the winter solstice, the Lunar New Year, seasons like summer and fall, etc.

Which is entirely intentional, I (alongside many others) am very disappointed in this specific event, which is arguably supposed to be the biggest, most festive, fun event of the entire year. I am purposefully tackling the Blight events so that the devs are aware they really dropped the ball this year, meant as constructive criticism, so they can be more adequately prepared for next year to not make the same mistakes. Mistakes which I particularly made sure to mention precisely so that the devs know exactly what it is people want out of an event, and where you were tackling gameplay, I was tackling every aspect of what makes an event.

    For Halloween specifically:

-People want the menu / lobby to be decorative, it's been done before and it's been done very well, twice now Dead By Daylight has put out thematically perfect decorations for Halloween and it makes no sense that the dev team should be putting out anything less than what they are capable of

-People want music which pairs well with the decorated lobby, music which is consistent, and overrides the music of other characters like The Clown, Legion, etc. (With a special exclusion for licensed characters like Michael Myers who have a license agreement to abide by). Tracks have already been created and published for halloween from previous events, and keeping these themes playing throughout the duration of the event adds significance to the time of the year

-People want an event which provides a unique experience separate from the normal gameplay that we see for most 80% of the year, as well as independent from the other events that we see scattered throughout the year. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with the classic "complete re-skinned generators and hooks to earn points" event, it violates the first part of what people want to see. While it's fine for smaller events like the Summer BBQ event, it isn't different enough to really change up the pace of the game all that much, something that people look for in these events, especially for a a particularly special time of the year like halloween. The Moonrise event executed this perfectly, requiring survivors to pick up lanterns spread throughout the maps and survive with them, and killers to destroy said lanterns. It was distinct enough to make the lunar new year event for the year to stand out on its own.

Reading back, it sounds almost demanding of the devs, but I do sincerely believe it circles back to that idea: "it makes no sense that the dev team should be putting out anything less than what they are capable of". We've seen what the devs are capable of through previous events which created new and unique secondary objectives in the hallowed blight, and the moonrise event, we've seen them create these wonderful and festive lobbies in the All Hallows Eve, and Winter Solstice events. For a title that is moving on the up and up, introducing grandiose new features and content like the archives and the Stranger Things chapter, these only add to how odd it is to see the devs backpedal like this.

It's really baffled me that no content creators like The King, Paulie Esther, or Hybrid Panda haven't really made a video covering their thoughts on the event. I know Puppers briefly kinda echoed these same thoughts on stream which is also a video on youtube, but he didn't go into too much depth. Just clarifying to people in chat that the event had indeed started and summarizing "it's not really even an event" from what I remember

And on a more personal level, I would like to think that the devs play their own game, and that they want to have their own fun with the final product of what they have created. This creates a new motivation to make it the best that it possibly can be so they can not only be proud of their work, but just like the rest of the playerbase, have a lot of fun actually playing it.

I hope somebody that's part of BHVR sees what I've written, or at least the poll, or even somebody else echoing the same sentiments. For the sake of constructive criticism to bring them and the game up, rather than nonsensical jargon which puts them down, unfortunately a lot of the community writes stuff that could be categorized that way.

Nobody ever did gens and most everyone just suicided on the hook to go to the next game. Que times were awful throughout part of it.

They patched that out so that the earning was universal and not split for both sides, which largely fixed the issue at least for me on my end.

So really, if we're talking about learning from past mistakes had the devs just put the exact same event in but what they learned from last year (maybe include higher stakes like you get double the vials for surviving if you fill it up completely) it would have been better this year. It just seems really weird to me to point to a mistake that was hotfixed mid event and say that, that made it terrible because for half or more than that of the event, that had been patched out.

And again, it really wasn't "everyone" suiciding and it really wasn't "nobody working on gens" this is most definitely a gross exaggeration. Did it happen? Yes it did, I saw it myself, but did it happen anywhere nearly enough that it ruined the event which in itself was well made especially outside of gameplay? No. And were there strategies and precautions you could have taken as a survivor to secure your own escape?? Yes there were, I personally ran Left Behind for most the entirety of the event and it was kind of cool to actually have a use for a perk that is typically so situational. I remember threads being created by other survivors telling people who didn't want to suffer as much from the hands of farming players just run perks like Left Behind and Self Care, so I know for a fact I'm not the only one who did this.

I think that they should have added husks of the plants around the maps. Something to show that it happened, lore wise.

This is a fantastic idea that I never thought of. The devs didn't even have to make the visceral cankers interactable at all they could have just reused the asset to show that the Entity was undergoing the "yearly purge" mentioned through what was deciphered from Vigo's journal, which caused the entity to be "infested with blight" which triggered "[visceral] cankers [to] bloom into 'Pustulas', a type of flower that spurts putrid nectar"

They could have even added new animations to these reused assets to actually seep or discharge the amber colored liquid, to make up for the fact that we couldn't milk them ourselves. Hell if they wanted they could use that same animation on the trees in the maps to create what was described in Benedict Bakers journal, really putting "the thick fluid I saw oozing from the trees" on display for survivors to actually see in game.

  • If I could have selected both the "pointless" and "don't fit the feel of the game" I would have.

As it stands however, I feel more strongly about the fact that they don't fit the feel of the game at all than I do about their pointlessness. There's absolutely no reason that survivors should be wearing these and even less reason for killers to have these hanging on hooks since they're the ones who are supposed to be mindlessly bloodthirsty.

People say they're "mementos" but I feel that's a really loose line of thought, some of them just don't make any sense. Why would Ash Williams have a memento of Claudette? Are they friends? Lovers?? Why would David want a memento of the Pustula flowers? Why would Bill Overbeck have a little square with a plant on it symbolizing herbology?? You really think that guy cares about P L A N T S?

The Hallowed Blight actually felt like an event. The special hooks and gens were animated, the grounds were littered with cankers that made the realm feel more alive and unique. A new objective to do other than just generators with the chance of winning some great looking cosmetics.

The Hallowed Blight, for all it's flaws, was a genuinely fun and exciting event to participate in.

The Withering Blight introduced players with a Battlepass System, a list of challenges that can be done in a single day if you're lucky, and one of the worst (and I mean the worst) integrations of special event currency collecting I've seen in ages.

The Withering Blight has no atmosphere, the trials still feel the goddamn same. The hooks and gens don't even animate. They just glues a couple of extra models to the existing hooks and gens. Even the title screen felt very mute. Remember when you open up DBD during the Hallowed Blight, you would hear and see the oozing cankers as the menus start to appear? That set the mood far greater than just a couple of goddamn pumpkin heads.

I would go back to that mess anyday rather than play this "event"

I love how this was written because it just echoes some of my internal thoughts that I wasn't able to convey as easily "the grounds were littered with cankers that made the realm feel more alive and unique" gives me chills remembering how excited I was before, and during the Hallowed Blight last year. It just adds to my disappointment that there's not a single part of me that feels the same way about the withering blight

I was very annoyed with people complaining that survivors were getting their serum and letting themselves die, but it was a small minority..

Survivors are doing the exact same thing now when somebody when they realise they can't open all three chests.

Devs: Don't let the vocal minority sway your views.

I agree that it wasn't that big of an issue, rather it was just blown up out of proportion which has happened multiple times in the past (Freddy originally was "(too) good", then nerfed into oblivion due to a knee jerk reaction, until he was finally buffed two years later which required an entire overhaul / rework to get him where is, all because of some ######### feedback). (really? The censor for dead by daylight is straight up "Bad Word"? I prefer the hearts from Steam) (Edit 2: The censor went away after I edited the first time, don't ban me for a bug)

People letting themselves die wasn't honestly that big of an issue in the grand scheme of things, and besides what eventually happened was those people eventually lost their pips and de-ranked while I kept moving up the ranks meaning I wouldn't be playing with them at all far enough into the event I stopped seeing it happening because I was playing with real G's who both played the event and the game.

  • Yeah, I got pretty heated while writing, had a lot more to talk about than even I realized. For good reason too, I think it came out to about two pages ngl

Wish there was a way to put the poll on the top instead of on the bottom, but at least they have the feature at all. Steam doesn't have it

  • I'd like to think that Benedict Baker and Vigo are completely different from this "Observer" doing their own things trying to piece together the puzzle themselves. I don't think they have any special power or insight like the "Observer" does, except for their own experience, having been stuck in the realm of the Entity for so long.

The Observer is probably just another piece in the puzzle, another mystery to solve for the community to ruminate over.
