Why make one of the Oni ultra rare addons be in survivors hands? Not the killer? It's an ultra rare????????
To be fair a free global Nurse's Calling is kind of absolutely insane.

Both, currently. There's a limit to how quickly you can turn while sprinting, and there's also (currently) a limit to how quickly you can turn your camera while attacking. You could whip your mouse across the room like it's on fire and you won't turn any faster. The idea here would be to allow you to move your camera around freely while attacking, but keeping the 90 degree maximum.
That would be perfectly acceptable IMO.

Thanks for the clip, it's good to see what everyone's referring to. I can't say I've experienced that myself while testing it.
On a related note, we have a quick update here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/112192/
The short version is that the overall limit of 90 degree is staying, but you'll have more control between the time you start the attack and when the attack actually happens. (So you'll be able to turn up to 90 degrees every time).
Hoping for the best

I can confirm that it's 90 degrees. I've given it a try myself and confirmed with the designers.
I think there is a lot of miscommunication going on. Yes, you CAN turn 90 degrees at the VERY end of the lunge, but now before that you are locked to a max of about 30 degrees, meaning you can't turn around corners even slightly. All survivors have to do now is just run around corners and keep going forward.
Here's a perfect visual example: https://youtu.be/O_j9EtJmaoo?t=50

Then why could they be doubled up pre patch? Janick said you're supposed to flick with the mouse and as of right now it isn't working as such. There's no evidence they're tied to the same engine control.
Regardless of what he's saying, you can't flick past like 20 degrees with the mouse.

My rule of thumb is this: if Scott Jund can still dominate with Oni after this "nerf", then he's fine. The Q and E ######### had to go but the simple turning at the end of a dash is necessary to Oni.
Well we don't have that turning even with mouse anymore. I've played him with the changes. I can barely counter any loops at all now. He's not terrible or anything, but there's no reason I'd ever use him over Billy anymore.
-
@Janick said:

Those using the mouse would not see a difference, actually you should gain about 5 to 10 degrees more. Those affected by the change are players who where remapping their keys and using Left-Right instead of the normal A-D during the Oni attack.
Yeah I only use mouse and this is completely untrue. I can barely turn anywhere. Never used a keyboard to turn a single time with him.
You also said you weren't ever intending the flick to be a thing which isn't true because you nerfed the flick from PTB to Live, and if wasn't intended you would have just removed it entirely from PTB to Live.
There is no reason to play him over Billy now. Kinda completely ruined him.

He literally shows you to stay near safe loops, and to be careful when he's using his power. The point to avoid the power!
Just treat him as you would Billy, his power is only up for around 50 seconds without add-ons. It's not that hard honestly.
That's literally the counter to every killer in the game.

As posted by another person on the forums earlier today, Tru3 has a video on it already.
Can we please not circulate this video as a tutorial on how to counter Oni. He literally never gets chased with the Oni's power up a single time the entire match.
-
I don't know how doing the only fun thing on the survivor side makes them a "hero." They literally just want a multiplayer game.
-
The only time the Oni is unable to be looped in any form is when he has the Scalped Topknot addon which is super broken for some reason. Without that double charge speed, there are definitely short loops he can't really dash around so he's not completely uncounterable.
That addon is absurd though.

Allow me to paint you a picture but firstly, you're being obstinate and also unnecessarily disparaging, so chill your dongles while you're ahead buddy. Just because they know of someone and have examples of someones game-play doesn't make them a fan, doesn't make them biased.
I've never watched that streamer in my life and only know his name because of Cryoatic does that magically make me biased towards x or y because I know the streamers name and who he knows as a person? No it does not. Perhaps you need to fix your cranial rectal syndrome before you start deciding things that people are or aren't.
Furthermore, this picture I'm going to paint for you - because this streamer is more of a survivor player and did exceedingly well on Oni, you realize that illustrates exactly what the main post and poster have been saying? That the killer is OVER-TUNED
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/902714#Comment_902714
I have heard from a few ex-console people that the game honestly was never really meant to be a console game. I feel for your plight although I have no personal knowledge of whether or not the actual killer is as you say on console. I hope that they can bring consoles to a better place health wise in the future.
However the state of the consoles does not in any way have a bearing on the majority of the player base (PC) and whether or not the killers are incredibly weak/powerful for them. That's like me telling you that your game of golf is wrong and you're being stupid because I know all the rules to pool. It's apples to oranges.
For the record I play about 95% killer, I'm just very open to the fact survivors have a lot of bullshit they have to deal with as well and for some reason some people cannot comprehend that.

That's stupid because individual survivor skill BY DESIGN should not match killer aptitude. You may have been here since day one, Scottjund, but you do not know the first thing about GAME BALANCE, and almost no one does in an asymmetrical game by definition. In fact, I doubt you even have a firm grasp on math based on much of your assessment of the game, because the math matic formula dictates that a killer of equal skill to the survivor team should average 2.5 kills at least!
This game is a non-competitive online horror game. It shouldn't even be about survival half the time for "survivors' it should of be an engaging experience outside of survival alone, but the developers saw fit to go for the easiest endorphin trigger possible by commiting to the simple concept of "us vs. them" when they could have taken an approach to survivor play similar to games like dark souls or Ark where death can pretty much be expected unless you reach the Pinnacle of skill and can to a degree, outplay your teammates.
It's a competition to survive amongst comrades, not a competition against the killer... But the game design philosophy confuses that
You basically said a whole lot of absolutely nothing here.
-
I don't know why people even debate this. You have to balance equally for both. That is the correct and only philosophy. If you balance too far for the 1v4, you begin ignoring the skill of the survivor and if you balance too far for the 1v1 you begin ignoring the skill of the killer.
-
I am very glad no one is realizing how strong he is.
-
He's apparently a lot worse on console due to not being able to aim the flick very well, that's probably your issue.
-
The only thing you can really say is that rank is correlated to higher levels of skill. That's really all you can say.
-
Assuming no drastic changes, Oni will definitely be better than Plague.
-
Man I feel so bad my killer queues at Rank 1 on east coast PC are like 6 seconds. Survivor is like 1 minute.
-
I agree that GF is fundamentally broken because his power is literally broken. You can look at him and nothing happens. You can also cancel his power through walls.
As far as being overpowered...not at all.

The irony, didn't you advocate on these forums that there is no chance vs the godlike nurse and demanded changes based upon the 1% of players in total?
The difference is the Nurse didn't have to be godlike. She could just have 5 blinks, or omegablink, or any combination of things that made her playable by a potato.

Balancing the entire game around it obviously isn't the solution. There should be a middle ground that addresses these players is all i'm saying.
Ignoring these matches/groups isn't a good idea they're not fun.
Ideally yes, but due to the rank system being impossible to get right and due to how asymmetrical the game is, that will never happen.
-
@BBQnDemogorgon said:

65% of the average including all players.
The issues for killers lie in the 1% of matches. Having data not based on best vs best won't show killer issues.
The minority portion of red ranks. Overall red rank data isn't good we need data vs elite depip teams with the goal to make the game unfun for the killer. Teams that will not be altruistic if it means a win.
Do you seriously think balancing the game for the 1 out of 200 games you get a true depip squad is a good idea? Can you seriously not see how that would absolutely kill the game?
-
I like how a 65% kill rate is too low for some people. It probably dropped because most people that played Nurse used broken stuff and can't play her without it anymore. I'm still seeing the good nurse players utterly dominate just as much as they did.
-
im not sure what im looking at that's cheating
-
This was back in the era of their development when they thought something called "long chase windows" were a thing. Basically they did the math and if you are near the survivor and vault the window by the time they make it all the way around again you'd be able to hit them, but this is really dumb because they don't have to follow that same path, they can just use the distance gained to go to a different loop.

I think its hilarious to call a killer op that just came out with only a sample size of maybe 100 players on day near 3 day ptb event but to each their own 🌚
I agree? Not sure what you're getting at.

He's not even remotely OP and I don't know where all this is coming from but its hilarious.

Just do what Tru3 said, "since everything gets done faster by SWF, reduce action speeds for every person in the SWF to make up for it."
okay then you get 4 friends that are terrible at the game that are penalized because they're friends, then they stop playing again. not a solution at all. I don't know why people assume swf suddenly = massive amounts of skill.

No.... and please don't listen to the content creators that are already advocating for change.... the killer is so bloody new that no one really understands him fully yet....
I hope the devs let him launch live as is. I may actually consider not buying if they give him the first Freddy treatment.
I agree its still too soon to make any changes but I feel like people really overestimate the depth of DBD, and especially the depth of the Oni's power. Its all pretty basic stuff. He just goes faster and one shots. There's not some big brain mind-blowing counterplay someone is going to figure out. The closest thing we've seen is killing yourself in a locker and bringing Unbreakable. I can't imagine there's much else and I can't imagine anyone is going to find much else because the power is so simple yet effective.

And what are you gonna do with those? His turning is dumpster fire trash, whereas Billy can use his chainsaw dash to cut some specific loops. He can also fake a chainsaw attack to force pallet drops, in some cases. The oni has to waste time to get his power, Billy has it from the get-go.
Look there's no arguing that Billy's strength is that he always has his power up but you have to be intentionally ignoring things to say that their powers are similar in strength once Oni has it. His turning isn't even remotely "dumpster fire trash," you can literally navigate LERYS with it. He doesn't even have to chainsaw bait a pallet he just barrels directly through it. You drop it the pallet insta dies, you don't you insta die.
-
His actual power is pretty overpowered, but..he also doesn't always have it so.
I don't know man. He's hard to gauge.
-
I'm surprised so many people are sleeping on Oni. With his power and any charge addons, there is basically not a single loop in the game you can use against him other than a god window. Slugging builds make him disgusting. The only downside he has the the weak early game but then he can win the match in 30 seconds.

@Sluzzy said:
Not knowing whether the spirit is trying to phase or not is part of her mindgame and adds a thrilling experience to the horror game.
I know its marketed as a horror game, but you know it stops being that once you've pretty much seen the killers a few times. Never use "horror" as an argument for balance.

What sound bug?.... the shards glow and that's proven here....
The shards are visible if you are within melee distance, at which point you are most likely dead so it doesn't matter.

Finally someone takes the time to actually prove (or better, debunk ;)?) those alleged telltale of Spirit phasing.
It was so annoying to read those comments "I just look at her hair lol!!" - and me not noticing anything in game.
EDIT: @ScottJund, can you show us a clip of basic skin Spirit phasing at normal distance? Are her shards obvious in that case?
Don't have a clip but noticed it in game. Its easier to see at a distance than pretty much every other skin, so there is actually pay2win situation going on with her skins.

cutting them out makes no sense since things like people unhooking and getting to other gens only effects 1 survivor at a time, where the pickup process and hooking process allows more time for 3 other people to do gens
What is everyone kobe'ing off their own hook? How is getting someone off a hook only affecting one person at a time?

in your video critiquing Tru3's examples of how to counter spirit, at the end you did a KYF with a friend of yours multiple times, and you said his average chase was 30 seconds. a scenario that will never happen of a 1v1 and dis-regarding the part of FINDING the survivor to. then adding the time to pick up and take them to a hook. all this is important time for the killer that you never included in your "data"
none of that meant anything. i literally prefaced that entire part with "its for shits and giggles"
