  • Right now, I'm getting real tired of people saying 'gg' and then *****ing about how you played.

  • This is a cool license, so although I don't prefer licensed chapters I am interested to see how they handle this one. I'm cautiously optimistic for now. I do worry that if the 6th anniversary really is something big like F13, then that's a very long time without original content.

Chapters always come out 1 1/2 months after the last one

I assume you mean 3 months, and yes, except this time you have to account for the extra two weeks they take off in December. That means the next chapter should be due in March, which it is, and which matches with every date for the last three years.

  • When else were you expecting it? The first chapter of the year was released in March for the last three years.

  • Myers is as good as it gets in terms of retaining his classic horror icon status in DBD, unless you have some bizarre power fantasy expectations I can't see a reason to feel let down with him.

Ghostface, on the other hand, well, uh, not so much.

  • Not my opinion, but going from the last period I tracked my killer matchups, the killers I saw the least were Twins, Legion, and Pig.

  • The fact that you didn't even get to use it and yet the killer still complained says it all.

Originally the game was hide and seek and the maps were a lot darker. Looping was actually not intended and only came into being once people figured out survivors had smaller hitboxes than killers. People bad at hide and seek had to do everything they could to stay in the game, and slowly over time the people good at hide and seek suddenly weren't good anymore.

So if you want to get technical people that can't hide would be considered unskillful by original game design. Kinda funny how that happened.

I don't really think this is accurate re: people bad at hide and seek. Looping (as opposed to just running the killer) gained popularity originally as the more fair and interactive alternative to just running full-on infinites, not hiding. The hide and seek playstyle was mostly detested by killers, not other survivors or people "bad at hide and seek".

what do you think should’ve been better to solve if I may ask

They should have never changed the initial hatch logic to begin with. Their stated justification for the change was the fact that the old situation was unfun 2v1 because the one survivor might not rescue/help the other Survivor when they were caught... so they created a situation where the killer has no incentive to ever let that Survivor unhook the other one, while also giving the killer even more incentive to slug for the 4k, which, yes, is just as miserable for the caught Survivor as ever.

  • I don't have my game open, so is this one of the side Master Challenges, or is it required to finish the Rift? It sounds miserable either way. Challenges like this are why I don't bother playing the game soon after tome releases. Too frustrating when so many of them require everyone to sandbag.

Edit: It's a side challenge. Annoying, but easy to ignore.

  • Because despite taking half a year's time after the mori changes to do it properly, the ultimate version of the hatch/key changes BHVR implemented were poorly thought out and actually exacerbated a lot of the issues they were supposed to solve.

  • I find both terrible, honestly.

  • Now now, she's not that overused, is she? I mean, it's not like she's getting another one next month. I mean, 2 Feng outfits in one chapter when half the cast barely get a single outfit in a year, heh, that would just be so ridiculous...

  • I understand, I'll never upgrade my Meg again for similar reasons.

This is also giving me flashbacks to when killers used to run Devour at Tier 1 to hide it until the moris began.

What? Overcome literally gives you more distance than a perfectly timed sprint burst and (for some reason) triggers upon getting contaminated so if you have it early game when a nemesis tries to get hit mutation up, he's forced to leave chase if he doesn't want to lose 3 gens.

And a perfectly timed SB doesn't cost you a health state.

Definitely not OP, but I think some of his add ons could be dialed back. Alchemist's Ring is busted in the hands of a good Blight. His speed add ons have the same issue that Spirit's speed add ons had. You have no idea what speed his rush is going to be

Said busted addon is a permanent fixture in most Blight's builds along with either Rat or Crow, and the rare time you don't see a Blight with Ring, running BOTH Rat + Crow.

edit: Actually, this made me curious so I went back through my match records to check the builds of the Blights I was facing. The Ring wasn't overly common, but Crow was actually in almost every match if the killer was running addons, and usually paired with Rat.

  • I'm really surprised so many people are asking why she's a killer. She's given up her entire identity to join a pack of feral, man-eating crows... seems straightforward enough. She's a crow now.

  • I'm actually starting to see more and more Billys recently, and I couldn't be happier about it.

  • Why multiple? Cancel it if a single person DCs, or allow every other survivor to DC at their leisure. Only the first person who DCs in a match should ever get a penalty. It's obnoxious to have to rely on the killer not being a total ******* if you just want to move on to an actual match after DCs have already decided the outcome.

lol, DH and DS are one of the only things Survivors can use to deal with Blight and his BS addons.

    This is pure whataboutism.

The problem with boons (well, with CoH) is that a team playing around it hard-counters attrition based killers. One perk can make about a third of the roster much weaker. That's ridiculous.

Then take the situation where a killer takes 10 seconds to locate and snuff a boon (that's being generous, on some maps they are much harder to find). It takes barely longer to rebless it. There are 4 survivors and 1 killer - thus it's the equivalent of wasting 40 seconds of killer time.

Boons just weren't a good idea.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/295516/bhvr-favoritism

    Want to be really depressed?

    Consider this:

BHVR recently nerfed Wraith (and Slinger, but that's a different discussion). Their reasons? He was too difficult for newer survivors to deal with at their MMR and 'too easy to do well with'. Cenobite just had most of his addons nerfed to PH/Freddy tier for the same reason. Wraith and Cenobite were 'B' tier killers at best at high MMRs - you only need to watch Otz trying to do his Cenobite 'streak' right now to see that Cenobite actually needs a buff. He never managed it on Wraith before the nerf.

They are balancing based on gross kill rates. They've said before that they don't balance based on high MMR games.

    Okay, fine.

However some killers (Nurse, as an example) have abysmal, meme-worthy kill rates. They are too hard to do well with, and too easy for newer survivors to deal with at their MMR.

So - by this logic, Nurse needs to be changed to be easier to do well with, right?

    Wrong.

BHVR stated that Nurse wouldn't get any changes with the implication that she'd be too strong at high MMR.

What this means is that they are operating with a direct double standard. If a killer is too good at low MMR, they'll nerf it - regardless of how this impacts the killer at high MMR. However, if a killer is really bad at low MMR - they won't buff it, in fear of breaking high MMR games.

It's stuff like this that makes people go 'BHVR are survivor biased'.

It's these kinds of arguments that show why this community has no business talking about balance. Not buffing the strongest killer in the game is not a "double standard." BHVR uses kill rates as one part of their balancing feedback, but they have never stated anything so absurd like that kill rates are the end-all be-all determinant of what needs to changed. You're unironically saying that, "I think BHVR made a bad decision here, how dare they not make even more awful decisions with this other thing!" In the process you, unlike BHVR, are missing the essential design logic as to why mechanics that underperform at low skill levels don't present the same issue as mechanics which overperform at low skills. Skill is a good thing. A player seeing more success as they gain more skill is a good thing. As Nurse stands right now, she shifts from the absolute weakest killer in the game to the absolute strongest as the person who controls her gains more skill with her power. This is fine. This is not problematic game design. The opposite happens with killers that overperform at low skill levels. As the player gets better with those killers, their results will not improve in line with their skill, and in fact, their results will probably get worse. And the reason is that their success never had as much to do with the skill of the player using that killer as it had to do with the interaction of their power/perks/addons against people of comparable skill level. That is a problem. That is the kind of thing balancing might want to correct. Slamming BHVR for adjusting results to better reflect the user's skill is not demonstrating that they're survivor-biased, it's just more par for the course forum nonsense.

But if you don't care for design, you can just use common sense and realize a killer that's only bad when the player is bad is a problem that solves it self. Less experienced players can just pick a different killer with a better learning curve. Meanwhile, a killer being unusually strong at lower skill levels encourages picking that killer... which exacerbates the issue above. It also leads to misguided perceptions about how unfair the game is at higher levels by those players who never properly learned its mechanics as they were boosted through the ranks, but that's a whole other topic.

  • How do threads like this even get made. You can just check the wiki next time you see a name you don't recognize, of course the character exists.

Also, it's spelled JAKE, not Jane.

  • Well the first one isn't entirely wrong, since she was never explicitly Mexican. But then again neither is Jonah as far as any in-game lore we've seen so far so???

Edit: But the second article though, yeah, clearly they don't know what they're talking about.

Also gotta remember lagswitching was extremely common with p2p

    And that's the #1 thing I don't miss about P2P. :)

  • It's funny to see this thread now of all times. This DDOS scare that people are freaking out about atm was something that was always possible during the P2P days.

At this point, I don't really miss P2P anymore. Both it and dedicated servers have their own sets of headaches, and while there are some things I still hate about dedicated servers, there's also a lot I don't miss about P2P.

  • Doubt it. Mostly for personal reasons though. I wouldn't have the time to invest in a game like this again.

  • Do you play with crossplay disabled normally? You need to enable it for the PTB or else it will still put you in a separate queue.

  • Heard it here first? Not quite.

Countless other killer mains have been playing this broken record for hours already.

  • @Labrac said:

What time of the day do you play on? I found playing late at night usually leads to the same results as yours, but playing during the early night or afternoon I get like 75~80% escape rate (I count hatch escapes as kills mind you). Even on solo Q a lot of my games at this hour end up with the killer getting 3~4 hooks. Faced even a famous streamer from my country on a 2 man SWF and he got only 6 hooks with 1 kill.

This actually applies to both sides. Playing late at night as killer usually leads to very chill and easy games for me, while at the day and early night it's a sweat feast. Funnily enough the role with the shortest queue at that specific time of the day seems to be the easiest one to play.

This is also my experience. I'm away from my computer where I keep my stats atm so no exact numbers here, but most of my night games have this 40-50% escape rate too, while the games earlier in the day are more like 70%. The funny thing is that the killers usually aren't much different at night, it's mostly the teammates who are so much worse.

Then why not do it for the other new releases like twins?

Why not indeed? They should. But I don't see how doing for one set of characters what they should do for all of them is a bad thing. At any rate, Yun-Jin and Trickster getting a tome makes the most sense because the two of them are a set. Their stories are already connected in a way that makes it pretty clear they knew how they wanted to follow up on them from the beginning. They got a tome because they're easy.

  • Supporting new characters after their release is a good thing, last time I checked.

  • lol, if it ever left, it's been back ever since the last nerf. The killer can also swing at the right time to glitch DS too. AFAIK connection does have something to do with whether it works or not though.

  • Wow, they really did it this time.

Dropping my apology here to everyone who insisted this was really happening even when it seemed so blatantly absurd that some of us thought it had to be some twisted joke. My b.

I didn't read your first post, bro. I am not in love with you.

Here is what you wrote, "Feels like a copout. 'I allowed myself to be manipulated by lazy and malicious lies about X but it's not my fault because I don't trust X anyway.' We're only talking about a game here, but I can't agree with that kind of thinking."

So now you can see why I speculated you might have been a bit egotistical. I didn't get my confirmation until you decided to respond to me. So now I can verify this as truth and remain accountable as per what your stated. See? I am a good boy.

    Nonsense, everyone here loves me.

Yes, I wrote that, in response to a specific comment that was in response to another specific comment. Context. It matters.

I hope now you've learned a valuable lesson about rushing to take a side without bothering to check what you talking about. (Hey, that sounds familiar...)

Any hoax goes wild because the evidence that is there is verifiable enough until it's under massive scrutiny. There's no point in trying to seem like "Well, I would never fall for a scam like that.", point is it happened. And this should be more than enough reason for BHVR to work on regaining the community's trust so we wouldn't believe something as insane as this with some vague evidence.

It's easy to stoke anger in this community, you should know this by now. Much more so when it's directed at BHVR. And BHVR has done greedy ######### in the past to make a quick buck.

What do you want me to say? "I'm stupid and you weren't for not believing a rumour that was thought to be true."?

If that helps you sleep better at night, there.

My first post pretty clearly indicated that I believed it too. So no, what I would like more people to do is admit that blaming BHVR for their own gullibility is an act of pure deflection. You want BHVR to be more accountable for their mistakes? Own your own first.

It's very easy to prime a community with a fading trust with the developers.

I do not blame anyone at all for thinking BHVR is willing to do this #########. Especially coming off the heels of a string of bad decisions, even if there are good ones sprinkled around.

Feels like a copout. 'I allowed myself to be manipulated by lazy and malicious lies about X but it's not my fault because I don't trust X anyway.' We're only talking about a game here, but I can't agree with that kind of thinking.

  • @DelsKibara said:

    I don't want to believe it's true.

But the fact that I trust so little in BHVR to not even give them the benefit of the doubt until people started pointing out how fake it is, should tell you just how much trust the community had in BHVR that this was able to spread a lot.

I talked to friends on Discord about this and they STILL don't believe this isn't real. Not until BVHR confirms it themselves. Same friends also has been trashing BHVR's recent decisions.

Meh, it just tells you that the community is extremely gullible. I for one feel silly for not bothering to look at it more closely.

  • IIRC Yui's the only original survivor who hasn't gotten a new set this year, so she is due for something new fairly soon.

  • It's at least to the point where the DC penalty needs to be removed again. We shouldn't be penalized for not sitting in a match when this kind of nonsense is going on.

  • That's supposed to the tuxedo that's his alternate default, right? Then it's a no from me, that's my favorite Ace outfit.

  • The reality is that keys weren't actually affecting the game very much. They were just an example of a seemingly unfair and sacky game mechanic that was easy to point in order to argue that the game was survivor-sided.

  • Sadly, some think that if they whine fast and hard they have a better chance of getting something nerfed.

  • "Other blatant lie" made me actually lol. You truly have the whining formula figured to a tee!

  • Another nothingburger trailer.

Oh well, I'm still hyped that we might be getting a Witch character soon. Witches are by far my favorite horror aesthetic, getting one for survivors instead of killers is unexpected but awesome.

The same people running around saying Spirit was unfair are the ones who also see no issue with Dead Hard, Iron Will, old DS, old object, and don't see how those are unfair and how survivors have more unfair tools at their leisure than almost any killer does.

And the same people claiming Spirit is now gutted were the same ones claiming that the old Ruin nerf would kill the game, that Nurse's nerf would make her a bottom-tier killer, and who think that every killer is unviable at the mystical "high MMR" that they themselves will never reach.

  • I don't know why people are giving you such a hard time, OP. Playing against any killer too many times in a row is annoying, even the most fun ones (which, let's put the memes aside, Demo is not).

1 … 8 9 10 11 12 … 36
