This thread had me thinking, if the game only needs 20% of players to play Killer at any given time to have full games and wait times for survivors are taking this long, I wonder how many players are actually playing killer.

It wouldn't surprise me since I almost exclusively see people playing survivors on the twitch DBD game page. and the fact that Killer for me I could only play a few games of since it can be very draining sometimes where as survivor is less work and more re-playable.

That's the tricky part with asymmetrical games. You need 4 times the amount of Survivors than Killers so you need to make one side more appealing to play. The implementation of SWF was the best way for them to boost the Suruvivors playerbase and even out the 4:1 ratio.

  • I'm sure they just randomly dropped due to connection issues and it was totally not a ragequit! Survivors never DC on purpose.

  • That rare time when I play Freddy....

Also, can anyone please translate this?

  • @Vietfox said:
I said SOME killers, relax. Yeah i won't defend survivors who do silly stuff either. We are all just players here.

    @Vietfox said:
I thought killer mains had enough balls to not lobbydodge

Not at all what you said but nvm.

  • @Vietfox said:
I never said they dodge me because they see my name, just that i get dodged when playing solo.
I might get matched with 3 SWF sometimes, but not every time i've been dodged. Also there are some killers that dodge for any silly reason too, so there's that...

Oh absolutely. Just like many Survivors MLGA block Killers for silly reasons, the Survivors equivalent to lobby dodging. This debatte between Survivors and Killers has to stop as in the end both sides are very similar regarding behaviour.

One thing that remains though, is that people in a SWF tend to be a lot more toxic (insulting) than solos or Killers, that's for sure. Not exclusively, but a lot more likely.

  • @Vietfox said:
Honestly SWF are not that bad. I never dodge and SWF are usually the ones who give me more fun and bloodpoints.
But as i was saying, they dodge me even when playing solo now.

Neither do I, because I'm actually looking for the SWF challenge. That doesn't change the fact that they are incredibly toxic and I'm not talking about playstyles but chat conversations and profile comments. I don't care if they like to abuse flashlights or loops but if they feel the need to insult me after I rek them, that's toxic. That's the result of the mob mentality within a SWF. If you trigger one, you triggered all of them and they'll use their VOIP to find the best insults to throw at the Killer after the match.

I guess it's my experience vs yours at that point so a discussion would be pointless. I still only very, very rarely get dodged.

Just because you are solo doesn't mean everyone else in the lobby is. Maybe you get matched with 3x SWFs all the time? No offense but I don't think you're so important that people would specificly try to avoid you personally but I know that people like to think "the Killer dodged because of ME! I'm OP!"

  • @Vietfox said:
I was just taunting, although i admit that the amount of killers dodging has increased quite a lot and it's taking forever to find a game right now, doesn't matter if i play solo or with friends.

Ever wondered why people dodge SWF? It's not coming "out of nowhere", there is a reason for this... :)

  • I play 75% Survivor.

    • Legion is absolute garbage
    • Freddy is bottom tier
    • Players are still toxic
    • Hillbilly is very powerful
    • The salt is still real
    • DS is incredibly annoying if used more than once per match
  • I used to be a diehard Killer main but I switched sides a few months ago when Killers suffered from ridiculous wait times. Never really went back to Killer.

I get more or less instant lobbies and I get dodged maybe once in 10 lobbies, probably because of some toxic SWF plebs.

    @Vietfox said:
I thought killer mains had enough balls to not lobbydodge

Great way to start a Killer vs Survivor debatte.

I thought Survivor mains had enough balls to play without Voice Communication.

    Your turn again.

  • @Detective_Jonathan said:
Yea i heard that you won't be able to block anyone once Dedicated servers come out.

MLGA tracks IPs and marks them as blocked / loved but when there is no P2P connection anymore, there's no way to tell who you're connected with.

Yes, MLGA is a good tool if you want to avoid blatant cheaters or toxic players but most Survivors abuse it for ridiculous reasons.

    Play Nurse? Blocked!
    Used a Mori? Blocked!
    Used NOED? Blocked!
    Tunnel / Camp? Blocked!
    Dribbled DS? Blocked!
    Slugged for 4k? Blocked!

It's kinda pathetic but feel free to do whatever you want. I also use it, mainly to keep track of toxic SWFs (because you can't really block specific Survivors) so I just block all of them when they happened to be toxic after the match and then dodge them whenever I come across them (in any form, even when they're solo). I do the same with Killers, but only if they're toxic (insulting and harassing), not for their playstyles.

  • You realize that by depipping you're just making it even worse?

Of course there's lack of high rank players when 30% of the high rank players purposely derank because reasons and the other 30% derank because long queue times, resulting in an a lot smaller player pool in high rank which only gets smaller from time to time because more people leave that area due to waiting times.

  • @JoyfulLeader said:
That's stupid, you can't call people morons for accidents, and sometimes I have to step in my traps so I can get past them if they're in a tight spot instead of re-setting them.

Why not? That's exactly why people turn into idiots, because they frequently make stupid accidents. I don't want to come off as rude here but that's kinda the definition of an idiot. Someone that keeps crashing into street signs is an idiot. A trapper that keeps walking into his own traps is also an idiot.

Yes, there MIGHT be situations where it CAN make sense to purposely walk into your own trap (whole basement trapped and someone kobe so you have to get back in) but that's VERY rare and even then it's smarter to just pick up the trap and move on.

  • I didn't visit the forum for a while so apologies for bringing that topic back up again after it's gotten rather quiet here. The topic is still very present and very important, so...

From what I've seen, people excuse purposely deranking with "playing stress-free in lower ranks", which is kinda a fair excuse but rather selfish.

Players that want to play stress-free and don't want to tryhard can join a casual queue. Players that want a challenge, want to win, can join the (a lot more complex & harder) ranked queue. I think these two game modes are mandatory for a game like DbD and the current situation kinda proves this.

Almost every online multiplayer game has these kind of game modes to seperate casuals and tryhards and provide a proper environment for everyone, depending on their prefered playstyle.

I'm a massive tryhard myself and it kinda ruins the experience for me when I get matched with casuals that don't even try - especially in Rank 1. At the same time I probably ruin a lot of other players fun simply because I tryhard and they don't. In the end it's often a lose-lose situation which causes frustration that ultimately leads to toxic behaviour.

I would really like to see DbD improve in that regard. A stats tracking system and a more complex ranking system would also help to balance the game, as you'd have more detailed and accurate data available. High rank would actually represent high skilled players. Right now, it's only the quantity that matters - the more you play, the higher you get. High quality gameplay is irrelevant.

Of course the seasonal deranking is also kind of a problem but that thing just exists to keep us motivated. It breaks the matchmaking but in the end it's also what keeps us playing. Maybe they could add some prestige ranks for every season that you reached Rank 1, this would promote players to stay in Rank 1.

  • If you're playing in Rank 1 you'll hardly ever see derankers because obviously they will never reach that rank in first place - as they derank way earlier.

  • @Condorloco_26 said:
I think that once you hit R1 at any role, you shouldn't be allowed to derank past R5, not even at reset, save for maybe not logging in months. You hit R6, you won't derank past R10, and so on. After that, I would suggest to open the matchmaking gates to include said five - by - five ranking brackets, so longer queues wouldn't be a thing to worry about.

    That's a great idea.

They could also create skill brackets based on how often you reach Rank 1 and then put players together that have similar Rank 1 experience.

Even in Rank 1 there is a huge skill gap between lower and higher skilled players. Players like me that reach Rank 1 literally every season get matched together with players that JUST managed to reach Rank 1 - obviously this creates an uneven playground and even as Killer I must admit that it's tiresome. I don't like stomping players with next to no effort and only on very rare occasions I finally get stomped by actually skilled survivors.

  • @Master said:
That argument is completely flawed since you will automatically become rank 1 by just playing the game thanks to the broken ranking system.

In that case Survivor is way too easy to pip? Fair enough then, make it harder to pip.

As Killer you actually have to tryhard to pip in Rank 1.

Which is probably why Rank 1 Survivors play like idiots and Rank 1 Killers tryhard. It's just the nature of the game that Killers have to put a lot more dedication into a match than Survivors in order to pip.

PS: You can play in a way that won't make you pip as Survivor. If you loop a Killer for the whole match without escaping, you'll never pip. If you rush gens without ever getting in a chase, you won't pip. As long as you don't escape and solely focus on a specific emblem, you can very easily avoid a pip as Survivor.

  • @Master said:
Not everyone is a competitive player

If you play to win, you're automatically playing this game competitive. If you play to win, you will rank up. If you rank up, you''ll reach rank 1 sooner or later. If you are Rank 1, you are playing this game competitive, otherwise you'd never make it to that rank. Simple.

  • As you said, there is no "good" way to derank, not on the long run. Or well, there is one and that's playing through the match and then disconnect at the very end.

In my 1500+ hours playtime I haven't seen this a single time. If they want to derank they either DC at the start or they suicide on first hook, ruining the match for the others.

The result of deranking is that high skilled players get matched with less experienced players, creating an uneven playground and most likely ruin the fun for the opposite side.

People that derank on purpose also make the matchmaking situation even worse. With every player that purposely deranks, there is one player less high rank to fill the lobby.

I'd describe "deranking on purpose" as being pathetic and selfish. It's pathetic because you purposely put yourself into a skill bracket where you're not supposed to be. It's selfish, because it makes the situation even worse for other rank 1 players and it ruins the fun for the lesser experienced players that have to play against you.

Plus, as you said, it gives viewers a wrong image of the game as most streamers derank to troll and bully the opposite side. Viewers shouldn't support it.

  • @Milo said:
I mean. Yeah when you see something good you will feel better when this thing stays that way.
    Same goes for opposite.
So Thana doesn't do much % wise but works on the mind of the survivors! (on those who work on gens)

In other words, it's a placebo with no effect other than messing with the minds of weaklings.

  • Took them long enough but it's finally done!

  • I personally think it's pathteic because it ruins the fun for the actually lesser experienced players. I see many players & streamers deranking on purpose just to stomp the lesser skilled players and then feel proud about it.

    Evidence of incapacity.

I often surprise myself aswell with my "random findings" but I play with Whispers since 2016, I know exactly how to make use of this perk. It might look fishy sometimes from a Survivors point of view and I take no offense if people calling me hacker, I take it as a compliment.

Not saying that there are no hackers but often times people are a bit quick with such accusations. Anyway, the only thing you can do is record, report and move on.

Like I said, these two particular players I've run into don't use any tracking perks, including Whispers.

Can still be common sense, luck, experience, too predictable movement patterns of survivors,... Very often they also leave scratchmarks or shoo crows away. Believe it or not, good killers will scout the area for crows and when they notice an area without crows, they'll know you have to be somewhere nearby.

...but as I said, nothing you can do besides recording and reporting them. Devs will judge.

Thanatophobia is the perk that turns bars red, and leader is the perk that turns them yellow. I never understood why people use that perk in the first place.

Maybe they feel more comfortable with yellow action bars. Same with Thanatophobia, survivors get nervous when they see a red bar even though it has next to no impact...

  • Sometimes people play this game in very mysterious ways.

That's been said, I refuse to unhook people that tried to sandbag or hook farm me. Maybe your case had a background story aswell, maybe they were offensive in the lobby.

  • @wouldntyouliketoknow said:
People think it takes 2 minutes to do a gen with 3 survivors while also knowing right off the bat that a killer is camping.

I agree, the killers should be punished for this behavior. Theres other toxic things killers do, but this one right here, if you play more than just killer, know that it ruins the game for everyone else. As much as people want to cry 'counter it' they're not the ones in these games that have to experience it.

I personally (even when I lose) thank the killer for not camping (if they don't) and they tell me "NP, I never camp, I also play survivor" If that doesn't speak volumes then nothing will.

I haven't camped or even just tunneled in months (except for the flashlight triggering kids) and my experience is no different to that back when I tunneled on a regular basis.

My conclusion is that no matter what you do as Killer, IF you kill all 4 they will almost never call GG regardless of how well you played. It's way more likely that they just insult you and only if they escape, they will call GG. This is very frustrating to me because, admittedly, I used to be a very unpleasant Killer to face (and still am) but after playing A LOT of survivor I kinda got rid of all the scummy playstyles - for nothing at all - It's simply not appreciated. I still get insulted and shat-on.

So I'm asking, why should I keep playing "good", making my life unnessecarily harder at times without getting anything in return? I'm not playing the good guy for myself, I'm doing that for the overall gaming experience of the players in my matches and if no one cares about it and no one appreciates it, I see no reason to keep doing it. I honestly get more insults and ######### than "ggs" simply because I do my job and kill them.

IF survivors want Killers to play "fair" at least show some appreciation when they do so because I personally see nothing of that at all.

  • Like these... 3 totems in one place or 2 gens in the main building

  • AFAIK it's just a visual bug, you don't actually depip but at least safety pip.

So because you step in your own beartrap you're automatically an idiot? You don't make much sense here.

Absolutely. Considering that this doesn't make sense to you I suppose you're someone that often steps in your own bear traps? What makes no sense here? A Leatherface that keeps bumping into objects is also an idiot.

No one is going to give up when there is no problem :)

  • @Dead_by_David said:
Very true but they should enforce the disconnecting bans, not make it OK to do. This would make me just want to play killer if I kept waiting for matches that end straight away.

If it is what the majority of killers want then maybe they should have it. I just want to play the game and all of the quiters make it unfun. (on both sides, as I said survivors are wores for it).

Killers already have a high tolerance when it comes to annoyances and frustration, it happens very rarely that a Killer gives up and blatantly disconnects. They rather afk in a corner or in the basement to admit defeat but still give Survivors their "deserved" victory points. Sad thing? That's exactly when Killers get abused and held hostage which leads to DCs instead of a "fair" defeat.

Survivors on the other hand disconnect left and right for ridiculous reasons with no shame. The last 51 matches I kept track of DCs, a total of 19!!! matches included DCs. And then they wonder why escape rates are relatively low, no wonder when ~40% of the matches are rigged.

I can asure you that even if there was a "Give up" option, Killers would only use it if they really don't see any way to turn the match.

@MandyTalk can you please close this post. This will 100% cause a lot of arguements.

ARguments is what this forum is about

True. But this one will cause major salt from survivor and killer mains alike.

It's a pretty calm discussion so far. Most people agree that camping is a low skill tactic but that doesn't mean it's not an effective tactic.

When you camp as Killer, you put the match result into the hands of the Survivors, it's their (in)competence that decides the outcome :)

  • Why tough? I think it's fine as it is.

  • @weirdkid5 said:
Or, they could fix the hitboxes since they have said they intended for Killers to have the same hitbox as survivors.

Also he is made even worse by the fact Hag does not have this problem in chases and her traps are pretty much always a free hit.

Absolutely, but this is something they should generally look into and doesn't have much to do with Trapper not getting caught by his own traps. I can only repeat myself, buff trapper but NOT in the way OP suggests because that would only reward incompetent players by not punishing them for their mistakes.

  • It's a nice perk but I doubt it will be used often.

Most survivors prefer perks that help them prolong the chase or help them stay hidden instead of perks that increase efficiency, which is a good thing.

  • @weirdkid5 said:
This would be less of an issue if Killers actually had the same hitbox, then they could squeeze through the same gaps a survivor can.

It's pretty ridiculous that Survivors can squeeze through, but even more so because it nullifies a pathway for you, which was the point of setting the trap in the first place, except it was originally meant to deny the SURVIVOR a path.

...and the logical conclusion should be: Don't place a trap in that gap because it's too wide.

It's part of the learning process when playing trapper. Knowing which spots are effective and which ones are crappy. I see a lot of trappers placing traps on the compound ramp and I just smile at them as I run past them. Or in the middle of the basement stairs. Some gaps are just too wide to block with one trap, it's not a secret.

Allowing trapper to walk past those traps won't really solve the issue, it will just reward idiots for making mistakes.

  • @RushingSnipeBob said:
No, it was not bad, it was exactly in the middle of a pallet spot, literally. It was in one of the pallet spots of the structure with high walls. You know, that lazy walls which are a reskin of many in this game. It is called a T-wall, I think?

    Yes, I know which one.

Since you placed the trap right where the pallet would drop, did you by any change let them drop the pallet, vault over it, then you broke it and THEN they managed to run past the trap? This is something I see trappers do very often (placing traps in pallets) so I just drop the pallet, vault over it and create an infinite until they pick up the trap.

The current problem is, that somehow survivors manage to walk over the trap unharmed, because of ######### hitboxes, but the Trapper can't do that.

If that's possible then your trap placement sucks. It's obvious that you can't block a 2 meter pathway with a single trap (basement stairs for example). If you place the trap in the middle of such a pathway chances are high that YOU step in it but the survivors can just hug the wall and run past it.

    Bad trap placement, nothing else.

Yesterday I trapped the place under pallet, survivor ran through it, I stopped, started to nod and show him the trap, he started to run through it constantly to check if it can catch him and it could not.

Even survivors claimed, then, that something is wrong with the traps. It was on the new map, if it is important.

Maybe there is something wrong in that specific spot then, who knows? Maybe your trap placement was bad? Where exactly was it, so I can check myself?

If the killer wanna throw his game to make sure you die, then you make sure to last as long as possible so the rest of your fellow survivors complete as many generators as they can to punish him.

On point. It's the Survivors incompetence that allows facecampers to pip and rank up.

Campers that manage to get Rank 1 are a good representation of the average skill level of Survivors. You can use the least effective tactic in existence (pip-wise) and still win.

If you step in your own bear trap you WILL get trapped, that's how logic works.

This is a video game that takes place in an alternate reality, logic doesn't apply so how about you stop that.

The suggestion remains ridiculous, regardless of the logical aspects of it, which I admit was a mistake to use considering there's hundreds of things that can be used to justify illogical things.

A trapper that steps into his own traps is an idiot, that's the simple truth and if you make the game idiot proof by removing any sort of punishment for being an idiot, we just remove more and more aspects that require some sort of skill to do properly.

Again, I'm all for buffing trapper but not in a way that just rewards idiots. If you make a mistake, deal with the consequences.

It is not a claim, it is an opinion. It would just mean people could quit as soon as they find something they dislike, which would make it more annoying for the people who just want to play the game.

Yes survivors have this ability but survivors should not have this ability, no one should and if you give it to everyone the game is just going to be more and more about just quiting when you get caught/start losing which is toxic behaviour all the same.

@Milord This is what everyone wants!

You don't know if it will be abused or not, yet you claimed that it WILL be abused.

Survivors already have this option so I see no reason why Killers shouldn't have the possibility to end the game if they wish to do so.

Your argument is that it would make it annoying for the other players - but have you ever thought that the Killer might want to disconnect because the other players make it annoying for them in first place? Being forced to go through a game that is simply frustrating - that's annoying. Especially since many survivors like to hold the game hostage until you effectively force them out.

  • I'm not arguing that trapper is one of the weakest Killer in this game, I totally agree but that's not really the topic here is it? Trap / traps deserves a buff but allowing him to run through his traps wouldn't exactly make him viable, his weaknesses still remain the same: Lack of map pressure due to the massive time investment it requires to gather and set up traps and the minimal reward you get unless you run strong add-ons.

It would simply remove the penalty for being stupid / unaware, a training wheel for incompetent Killers. Yes, it could help during a loop because the Survivor had to run around the trap while you could just run through it but that just looks like one of those bandaid fixes / buff that the devs would come up with. if you place your traps smart, there is no requirement for this because you'll catch them either way.
