Not every Survivor has to be viable, it's all about fun.

That's true but at least it's only them to blame. The Killers won't suffer from that, only the people that join an SWF from China while the Host is from EU, for example. They'll currently end up in an european Killers lobby and in summer they'll end up on an european dedicated server. The difference is that they can't blame the Killer anymore

At least that's what I expect it to be like.
-
As long as there are no region barrieres, it shouldn't be a problem.
-
Fun fact: They wanna keep the game alive for 5 years because it will take them 4 years to switch to dedicated servers.

And the complains about camping will skyrocket and the Devs will cave in and bring a mechanic that will force killer to leave the hook.
I know.Man, just imagine if they'd adjust the emblems so it will punish campers by removing emblem progression? Then they'll give Survivors invulnerability during unhook animation. They'll buff adrenaline so it will only trigger once unhooked and then they'll buff BT so it will not get survivors in dying state while in a chase! And to top all of that, they implement a perk that gives survivors 100% chance to unhook themselves!
....wait a second....

I'm not so sure about this whole "new BT = Tunnel/Camp" mindset. Deep Wound seems to be the ultimate anti-tunnel status effect. If someone gets unhooked with the BT buff, you need to hit them twice, just like anyone else. Before that buff, you could just chase them while they bleed out.Instead of finding a way to deal with it, I'd just try to avoid it by not even allowing them to trigger it. Many Killers can proximitiy camp outside of BT radius and then quickly head back to the hook to land a hit: Spirit, Nurse, Billy, Hag and Huntress for example. With Freddy, Wraith and Pig you can completly ignore BT because you won't have a terror radius.
Doctor, Leatherface, Myers and Clown are probably the most affected by the new BT, which is kinda sad. Those Killers didn't really deserve indirect nerfs but ehh... I doubt that the devs thought this through.
The most simple tactic to keep BT from getting trigger is even simpler: hard camping.
I the victim does not get unhooked = no invu frames, no free exhaustion relief, no risk of BT.But that would be very toxic and against the Survivors rule book!

Yea, as Leatherbilly main I noticed that aswell.
It's been like that since the implementation of the Emblems, people reported it since the first week after release but no one seems to care. McLean said in a stream back then that they will fix that issue as soon as possible. I trust them, so I imagine them working really hard on this issue since months. It must be a really time-consuming thing to change a number.

PiiFree and Vietfox yeah, you make good points. I'm very much used to say stuff to friends in RL like "cancer eat your guts out" or being told the same in the most friendly manner... I suppose it's partly a cultural thing. But I can see how this can hit hard if someone is unaccustomed to it. It's just... reporting or complaining about it feels so whiny. I know it's not but that's how it feels. I'm genuinely outraged too when #########'s thrown at newbies, but consider this: emotionally stable people will eventually get over it. The unstable ones, well, they can't be helped anyway.Sometimes I wish all games, online forums etc allowed only real name registrations. That would definitely put an end to 90% of garbage behaviour.
That's a difference. You do that with your friends because you know that they will take is as a joke. If one of your buddy had his girlfriend lost due to cancer you probably wouldn't make jokes about cancer anymore? That has nothing to do with being emotionally stable or not, no matter how stable you are, if people keep reminding you of that or make fun of it, it will hurt you mentally but eh, I know that in the gaming community people don't think that far.
It's normal behaviour these days which is exactly what triggers me. It's not normal to wish someone cancer, or to wish someone that their kids get raped but I see stuff like that on a regular basis in Dead By Daylight. I haven't seen that in 3k hours of Dota 2 because people actually get punished for that. In Dead By Daylight? No one gives a damn, which is kinda a sad thing.
-
I don't want to argue with them, I want them to get banned and I certainly don't want people to defend or trivialise such behaviour

-
What does rank / the ranking system have to do with competitive or not? Dota WC3 had no ranking at all yet it was competitive in a high level. Quake, SC1, CS1.6 all had no ranking yet they were all competitive games.
People confuse things here I think. As soon as the match is a competition between you and other players, it's competitive.
-
For me, a game is competitive as soon as the purpose of the game is to win against other player(s).
Even Mario Kart in Battle mode on N64 is competitive.

Yup, that's not toxicity; people are just being overly sensitive.
@Orion
I know that everyone is different and stuff, but personally there's no way i can be bothered by people like that.
If someone tells me to get cancer:
Do i know that person? No
Do i care about that person's opinion? No
Will i get cancer just because that person wished it? Certainly not.
Summary: my life hasn't changed a bit and i'm still fine, probably even better because salty people amuse me.
Yeah, i will report that behaviour because not everyone takes that stuff in the same way and because no one should talk like that, but would be nice as well to not get affected by this kind of people. It's probably hard to imagine but how do you think you'd feel like if you for example had a loved one that died to cancer? Or your own kid? Or someone that you're close to is currently fighting against cancer?
Just saying, just because it doesn't affect you (or the person that insults someone) doesn't mean it won't affect others. Insulting and wishing people cancer is probably one of the most disgraceful thing you can do. If anyone deserves cancer, it's probably those people that wish cancer upon others.

Good thread but one thing got my attention. There are literally rank 20 survivors with 4 perks that are from different survivors. This means that they have at least more than 100 hours in this game but still rank 20.
Some people enjoy bullying huh?
Many players derank on purpose but it's mostly the SWFs that have 1-2 friends in Rank 15-20 to keep their average ranking low.
In a SWF, it's not the highest rank that determines what killer you get, it's the average. That's why I was matched as a Rank 11 with a SWF constellation of R1, R3, R17, R20. The perfect constellation for an average Rank 10.
You can very easily notice such stuff as Killer. 4x Survivors in the same rank = all fine. 4 survivors with ranks spread across all skill brackets but with full skill loadouts and items = bully squad that deranks on purpose.
-
It would already be a good start if Survivors would aknowledge that it's usually their own fellas that spread toxicity. I know both sides can be toxic but after more than 1500 hours of playtime it's obvious to me that the real toxicity (again, insulting and harassing other players, not stuff like looping or tunneling) is MAINLY coming from Survivors. Not exclusively, but mainly. And the ratio is FAR from 4:1.
My logical conclusion is; to reduce the amount of toxicity, it would be nice if survivors could stop being toxic even if they get camped, tunneled, slugged or whatever. Just move on, it's that simple on paper but pretty much impossible to achieve in reality.
You can only stop people from being toxic if you actively start to punish them with temp bans ect. It worked in Dota 2 so I suppose it would work in DbD aswell.
If 90% of the toxicity is coming from Survivors (a wild guess), it's also to 90% in their responsibility to give it an end.

seems to me it's not really one side or the other, but rather it's predominately a set of toxic players who play both sides just as scummy. there are exceptions, of course, but that makes the most sense to me.Most Survivor consider camping and tunneling toxic. As a Survivor, I don't consider that toxic, it's no different than looping or gen rushing. I've not yet to see a Killer that complained on my profile "-rep ######### looper / gen rusher", not once. I have more hours in Survivor than Killer yet my profile to date has ~500 comments, most of them are insults from survivors because I killed them.
You can try to defend the behaviour of the Survivors all you want, every experienced player (regardless if it's a Survivor or a Killer) will tell you that the real toxicity (insults, harassment) happens WAY more often on the Survivors side. Camping, tunneling, slugging - while they're a bit scummy and annoying to deal with, are NOT toxic unless you consider looping and gen rushing toxic aswell.
-
Dbd community is like a mixture of very toxic and very unskilled players, with a bunch of competent players for seasoning.
This combination is awesome and awful at the same time. I don't think it will ever change and tbh, I'm not even sure if I want it to change.

Like one year ago I dodged quite often. BNPs and flashlights were broken af and could easily lead to rigged games, I don't care what your opinion about that is. People save file hacked to get an endless supply of broken stuff so the argument "they are rare!" was not true either.
These days I only ever dodge for bad ping or when it gets personal (when someone seriously screwed up with me in the past).
I also dodge certain bigheaded streamers, especially those with a weird moustache, mainly because I don't like having someone talk ######### about me, my looks or my playstyles behind my back, in front of their audience so I randomly get spammed and insulted by their viewers.
Dodging is legit. Some people take it a bit to the extreme but it was way worse a few months ago. Now I only ever get dodged because of bad ping, I actually see a lot more survivors lobby-hopping to stream snipe their favourite streamer like some teenage boyband-fanboys.

I think unfair is the wrong word to describe camping. It's annoying, it's mean, it's not really a skillful playstyle but in the end it's just what it is: Camping. A Killer that decides to make sure that you die.
It's funny that people here say "it's unfair because it's annoying". Do you think it's funny for Killers to get looped? According to your logic, as soon as someone starts to loop, they initiate an unfair playstyle and thus deserve to get camped. If that's the case then 99% of the Survivors deserve to get camped because they initiate unfair playstyles by looping the Killer as soon as they get in a chase.

That's actually the point of builds. Builds are meant to counter stuff that makes you struggle the most, no one is suposed to be able to counter everything.
Create a build around your main weaknesses and/or necessities and use the skills to counter the rest.Very true but quite ironically, most Survivors never use perks that actually help them to counter the strongest Killers in the game. They use the same basic crap from early 2018 and think it will help them win. DS and Sprint Burst when everyone is playing Nurse, Billy, Spirit. Self Care when everyone is running Sloppy Butcher. Still relying on pallet looping against Killers that aren't even affected by pallets that much.
Of course they think Killers are too strong. They basically try to beat a rock with scissors because everything else looks weak on paper, without realizing that paper > rock (oohhh that line).
-
Why do people insult Killers for the mistakes of fellow Survivors?
That's a big issue actually, Survivors are very good at ignoring their own mistakes and instead blame it on the misbehaviour of the Killer (that simply made use of those mistakes).
I notice that as Survivor and I notice that as Killer. Getting hook farmed and the farmed guy wouldn't complain about the Survivor that farmed him - no! They complain about the Killer that simply took advantage of it and put them back on the hook immediately.
Listen, my fellow Survivor friends: This is the result of a stupid survivor, not a toxic Killer. Someone in your team decided to give you a quick end by unhooking you while the Killer was near. I see stuff like that all the time and I just wonder; are those guys purposely blaming the Killers to trigger them or are they truly so ignorant and blind to not realize that it was the bad plays of survivors?

Bad teammates are why I play stealthily. Get (at least) two gens, take the hatch after everyone else dies.
That's what I do aswell but I'm still getting tired of the DCs. It's really crazy these days, I recorded my matches for the Ironman Billy challenge and in those ~50 matches from Rank 20 to Rank 1, a total of 19 Survivors disconnected (against an empty Billy).
That's like 40% of all matches included a DC, which is pretty ridiculous.

Is this a coincidence? Huntress & IH & Ebony Mori = Epic failure most of the time. Is it because they never play Huntress and thus go fully tryhard without knowing how to land hatchets? It's proof that Killers need buffs, to get rid of ######### teammates who goof around and get everyone killed.
Yea, I noticed that when I played Nurse a lot. They hear a blink = everyone focuses on gens. Huntress with instadown probably has a similar effect, or a Myers with suspiciously long stalking times.
Makes you realize how efficient Survivors could be if they stop messing around. Imagine if players would be that dedicated by default? Game would be pretty damn hard as Killer but eh, glad that's not the case most of the time

I'm not a fan of AngryPug, even was kinda biased towards him but I randomly watched him yesterday and he made a few very good points.
In short, Survivors and Killers constantly cry and complain about literally everything but you will NEVER see a good survivor complain, because good survivors know exactly how to deal with stuff like Camping, Tunneling, BBQ, NOED ect.
The problem is that BAD survivors make camping an efficient tactic, that's why you keep facing campers in Rank 1and that's why they won't stop camping, they never get punished for it. In fact, they can punish survivors while camping, which makes it even funnier.
It might be frustrating to deal with it - that's for sure - but you have to adapt and improve, find a way to deal with it.
-

If only there were options like that available. Oh well, I guess all killers are screwed.BT is irrelevant as long as the gates are closed but once they are open, there will be no way to secure a hook.
I don't mind the "anti-tunneling" feature during the match but once the gates are open it shouldn't provide an infinite safe unhook oppurtunity. It's very similar to NOED, which is exactly why I'm going to run NOED on Nurse and slug 24/7 if this patch goes live with that BT change.
It's a protest march, nothing personal and it's also not because I think BT is gonna be too strong. It's because that change wasn't needed and only rewards hook farmers and/or bad survivors that get caught in the end, so I make sure to punish them accordingly :^)
-
My answer to the BT buff is slugging Nurse.
Can't use BT when you can't unhook anymore :^)

99.9% of all lagswitch accusations are false reports and simply the result of frustrating survivors. Yes, it might lag - it's THE INTERNET after all, people with ######### ISPs have to host the games in DBD. Blame the devs, not the players with ######### ISPs, they have no control over it.
BTW; Self-defense? You're killing me dude. If a cheater is hacking, you can't just hack back as a form of self-defense, you have to stick to the rules. DCing is against the rules so of course it will get you punished, doesn't matter for what reason you did it.

Your reading comprehension pisses me off.Love you too sweetheart.
My argument is based on that users statement; "SWF is all about having fun with friends" which is a contradiction with your statement "we need a reward". The reward has absolutely no relation to the gaming experience during the match, a match with 100'000 bloodpoints was not magically funnier than a match with no bloodpoints at all, as the experience during the match was exactly the same. There is also no requirement for a reward when you have everything at hand already.
And I'm explaining to you why KYF is inferior. No bloodpoints, no progression, no reward. I could give less of a damn what the other user said.
No it wasn't always the same. Nobody could try out perks, items, add-ons or any of the new maps. As I said it was bare bones.
And I stated that's one of the reason. The other is that it's more beneficial to play SWF when you have less then 5 people. After all why should 2 players play KYF?
I already explained to you the main reason why no one plays KYF but since you simply ignore it, I won't even bother with you anymore.
The main reason being friends don't like to annoy each other and survivors can't be friends with killers.
KYF is not fun for once reason: because the Killer is a friend and making fun of a friend is not exactly a nice thing to do. That's the only thing that could possibly make KYF LESS FUNNY than SWF. Soooo, better group up and make fun of a stranger, that's where the real fun is coming from.
... Okay, where did the SWF touch you?
This is the most hilarious thing I've ever read. Friends don't make fun of each other?
I've been there myself, 4x SWF only playing to bully Killers like a 12yrs old. It's fun for a while but at least I'm honest enough to admit that this was our only intention. We didn't care about bloodpoints, match outcome or anything. All we wanted to do is bully Killers and after almost 2000 hours in DbD I can safely say that this represents the mentality of most SWFs. Not just from facing them but from playing with them regularly.
I've faced many SWF that just played the game normally. I even met some randoms that only SWF due to how bad the lobbies are in my region. I've also faced ones that are exactly like you. And the funny thing is when I asked why they use SWF compared to KYF, they simply said one thing.
'It gives bloodpoints.'
So congrats on representing the SWF groups but I much rather ask them in person next time thanks.
Again, my answer was a direct reply to the person that explicitly said they only care about having fun with friends, to which is responded with why don't you play KYF if fun is all you care about.
I also said that I am well aware that not every SWF plays with the purpose that I explained earlier.
In case I didn't make it clear yet: Your reading comprehension pisses me off once again.
I'll repeat:
The main reason why people don't play KYF is because "your" fun comes at the cost of the opposite side, which HAS to be friend. If having fun with friends is the reason why you play DbD, bloodpoints are irrelevant. As soon as bloodpoints become an important factor that affects your gaming experience, you are actually not playing for fun but for farming bloodpoints / grinding. The EXPERIENCE is not affected by the bloodpoints, you can techniacally play exactly the same match in KYF as in a SWF. The reward you are looking for should be having a fun match with friends but since you are looking for a reward in form of bloodpoint, you're putting bloodpoints at a higher priority than just your having fun with friends.
Just play KYF for a few matches and you will quickly realize this: YOUR fun as Killer or Survivor is directly related to the opposite sides unfun.
Also, do you know Twitch? I can show you a hundred streamers right now that play in SWF with the sole purpose to either tryhard for easy wins or to troll the Killer. Both those things result in one thing: an unfun experience for the Killer - because of SWF.

Pretty sure OP realized that their idea was not the best.
If you take the only limited resource and make it everlasting then there's virtually no end to a match. The whole map would turn into an infinite, as 3 Survivors could repair the pallets while 1 Survivor keeps looping them.

I would play kyf if it gave bloodpoints. Also, I play enough killer to R1, I just don't have thin skin. When playing against a good SWF that plays toxic, it can be annoying, but not so much that I feel helpless. Some games you get rolled, other games you 4k without any gens getting completed. It's a videogame. If you need conditions to be completely in your favor to have a good time, then that says more about you than it does the game.
Listen, in KYF you have EVERYTHING unlocked so you don't need Bloodpoints at all. This whole argument "KYF gives no bloodpoints" is absolutely moronic, what you need bloodpoints for when you got everything unlocked?
The reason why no one plays KYF was very precisely stated by me and the fact that no one can argue against it just proves it even more.
KYF = Not fun because the Killer is ALWAYS a friend, which means you can't troll them without being annoying to a friend.
Applies to 99,99% of the "just wanna have fun with friends"-type of players. They wanna "make fun of the Killer with friends" which is a bit risky in KYF.
-

I honestly don't care or SWF was intended or not. It's been in the game for most of it's entirety and it's a current and very popular feature in the game. It's not going anywhere.I'm one of the many players that abandoned F13 and migrated here. If SWF wasn't a feature, I wouldn't have bought this game. I main survivor because I like playing with friends. I do some solo survivor and killer matches. It's way more fun for me to play with my friends that include my wife, some real life friends, and online friends from F13.
My point is that this game wouldn't have near this level of popularity if SWF was not in the game. The developers are not idiots.
You realize that you can play KYF with friends aswell?
This whole "only SWF is fun, not KYF" leads me to the conclusion that in reality it's not about "having fun with friends". It's more about "making fun about the Killer - with friends".
If the majority of SWF simply cared about "having fun with friends" as they claim, there would be absolutely nothing that hinders them from using KYF. They don't care about bloodpoints, don't care about ranks, don't care about win/lose - they just want to have fun so what better opportunity can there be besides KYF?
I tell you what; The Killer is a friend and that's the main reason why no one touches KYF. That friend has to play Killer against you, which is gonna be annoying AF. They realize how unfun it is to play against you, start to fight about "whos turn is it now as Killer?!". I've been there. We all have been there. Survivor feels boring aswell because you're not allowed to excessively loop, flashlight blind, use DS ect. as that would trigger your friend. As Killer, you're not allowed to bring certain perks or add-ons as it would ruin the survivor-friends fun.
Soooo, where is the fun? There is no fun...
What's the solution? Let's go SWF and troll random killers!....and then act all surprised and upset when you find out that this random Killer is tryharding against your SWF with voice communication that just "wants to have fun with friends".
This might not apply to you and many other SWFs but if you'd play some more Killer, you'd realize that MANY SWFs play SWF exactly for this reason.
