Last I checked, no characters have their preferences stated (or they are loosely said). I guess its headcannons to decide that.

You should check again. Start with the Legion.

  • If he were, it'd be in the lore. It's not, so he's not.

I don't know what is up with it.

When I was looking up pig to find out how long it took for crouch to get rid of TR, it said it fades at .66 m/s, which cannot be right. otherwise it would take ~ 48 seconds for it to be gone. But on the spanish page it says it fades out over 4 seconds.

I contacted my admin friend upon reading your comment. That's being fixed now.

Yeah in his lore it states that hes aware of being watched by an audience, and thats actually his reasoning for willingly joining the entitys realm. He chose to join with the promise of an everlasting audience to always be giving him attention.

Please for all things holy do not bring animals into this..Cause, well Otters jerk off with fishheads and other weird crap in the animal kingdom. Or the army of birds who decides burning half a nation down for a snack was smart. That and well, that can be flipped in a way that is...Well, not very wholesome 100.

It kind of is promotion when you wave a flag around and scream It at the top of your lungs tbh. It really depends, like summoning a LGBT character right in pride month is a tad on the nose. It feels more like pandering by that point. Even then, out side of chick flicks most people don't care about sexuality as much as anymore. I would also argue If you have even a straight cupple going "we straight btw" and smacking lips every 10 mins It would drive people up the walls..But,then again Twilight and romance novels are a thing. But, once again DBD is a horror game about 4 people with lightsticks harassing some super natural power creature as the godlike monster who put them there laughs and throws wood everywhere.

I'm not the one who brought up "natural", though. Either nature is relevant, or it isn't. If it is, then homophobia is unnatural. If it's not, then "natural" can't be used as an argument. That's my point.

Show me someone doing that on this forum or the game, please.

Like Christmas decorations in December is pandering?

Even then, out side of chick flicks most people don't care about sexuality as much as anymore.

The fact that there's this much (vocal) pushback every single time an LGBT character is even considered tells me otherwise.

Sexual desire and will to be in a long term or emotional relationship are two different things, but I guess this is not the right place to discuss it

Yes, but you said heterosexual and asexual, not heteroromantic or aromantic.

And once again as a gay person, just throwing my voice in to say I couldn't care less if DBD "adds a LGBTQ character". It seems like this is brought up daily, in multiple threads. It's not homophobic, or bigoted to find it irrelevant for a game like this.

Please don't judge us all by the loudest on the internet.

In other games, sure it would be nice to see a gay character sometimes so long as it's done in a natural, organic, non-obnoxious way. But idk, I'm getting concerned more and more that the constant bitching will actually make people more resistant to the addition of non-heterosexual characters in the future.

I'm new to the forums. Is there always a zillion threads on "LGBTQ"?

Nope. It happens from time to time whenever the subject is brought up. It started when the devs made an announcement that they weren't going to purposefully exclude LGBT lore any more.

Right, I should work on greater evils but you're asking for LGBTQ people to be poorly represented in a game that has less than 50k active players.

    Right

You're the one worrying about "the children", so it makes more sense to work on the greater evils. I'm just advocating for my LGBT brothers, sisters, and others who play this game and want representation, so my scope is much smaller than yours.

    "Realism isn't a factor here"

I don't know how to say it ANYMORE clearer but proper representation is all about REALISTIC portrayals of someone's experience.

You're asking for representation, when you have not the faintest clue what it actually entails.

You were talking about realism in demographics, but now you're trying to change the subject to realism in personal experience. Which is it? Please make up your mind, are you complaining about the realism in demographics by having multiple LGBT people in the game, or the realistic portrayal of their experiences?

  • @Zaytex said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1992032#Comment_1992032

    1) And the treatment the heterosexual characters get isn't even decent, it's terrible. Why do you want awful representation? You scream representation, but there's nothing shared between you and characters in a supernatural death getting murdered over and over, with exception to maybe one part of them, which you're making such a big fuss about when really, sexuality shouldn't be fussed about in 2021.

    2) "Equal treatment" still doesn't mean good treatment. The heterosexuals weren't done good, neither will the gays or niche genders the developers have no clue about.

    3) it doesn't matter, its still the company as a whole that makes decisions, and this exemplifies the issue of them not fixing core issues and adding stuff that barely no one asked for.

    1. Nobody's screaming here, calm down. Yes, we all know the treatment heterosexual characters get during the trials. We're talking about no longer purposefully excluding LGBT lore (confirmed by the developers that they were excluding it).
    2. See above.
    3. So should they get the lore people to work on coding the game? Or can we acknowledge the fact that having writers work on writing doesn't stop programmers from working on programming?

I agree with kids not playing toxic or adult like games, but neither should they be taught about sexuality, both straight and anything non-straight.

You should start with the greater evils, then: TV and ads. Get them to drop all sexual content, then we can work on DbD.

U do, u can't be heterossexual and Arromantic, but u can be assexual and be in a romantic relationship. It just doesn't include sex (or kisses and huges if u take it as sexual)

You're getting two concepts mixed up here: relationship status and sexual orientation. Just like gay men and lesbian women can get opposite-sex partners to "fit in", they don't become heterosexual just because they did so. See my example above.

    "Characters"

That right there is also a problem. A lot of people, not saying you in particular, are wanting a character for every sexuality or niche gender in existence.

That's not realism at all. When do you see the entire LGBTQ spectrum in any area of life outside pride events?

That's not realism at all. When do you see the entire LGBTQ spectrum in any area of life outside pride events?

You do realize the game is about an evil spider goddess that takes people from various realities (not just our own) to feast on their souls, yes? "Realism" is not a factor here. Even if it were, the fact that She can take people from any reality automatically throws that out the window, unless you have data on demographics from alternate realities.

There are asexual people living in heterosexual (or other sexual) relationships though.

Which is not the same thing as being heterosexual (or other). I'm in a homosexual relationship, but I'm still bisexual.

  • @Zaytex said:

Since three of you replied and I'm on mobile, take this as a shared reply.

The representation for even the straight characters in this game isn't good or at the level where it should be. Heterosexuality is mentioned, but there's no representation of the positive virtues that come along with it.

Now if heterosexuality doesn't have that, what makes you think other sexualities and niche genders will get it?

And you keep forgetting the fact that this is a game about perpetual pain, murder and death. I'm sure it'll look good to outsiders hearing that an ancient evil deity, chose an oppressed LGBTQ individual and then makes them even more oppressed.

Plus the developers have already confirmed at least one character in this game is LGBTQ, yet you still want more.

Please focus on the problems with the game instead of wanting representation when it's not even needed.

Now if heterosexuality doesn't have that, what makes you think other sexualities and niche genders will get it?

Did anyone ask for that? Because I don't see it. What I see is people asking for the same treatment that heterosexuality already got.

Plus the developers have already confirmed at least one character in this game is LGBTQ, yet you still want more.

People want equal treatment between heterosexual relationships and non-heterosexual relationships, yes. Saying "oh, someone's LGBT" is not what happened with heterosexuals.

Please focus on the problems with the game instead of wanting representation when it's not even needed.

The people in charge of lore are not the ones who work on the balance of the game. Furthermore, just because you don't think representation is important doesn't mean it's irrelevant to everyone.

I think the way Apex Legends has done LGBT+ characters is really well done. As a member of the LGBT+ community that's all I personally want, just a little nod and nothing to overt. I just want normal LGBT+ people in my games. If that's to 'political' for you, to read one line of text about a male character's boyfriend, you have much bigger issues that may need addressing.

That's how the devs will do it, since that's how they did it for heterosexual characters as well. It's also what people are asking for.

No, but I think you just proved their point.

See, "politics" is just a code word for "minorities" (most often LGBT). Mass Effect has a ######### ton of politics in it, from your own character's promotion being a political maneuver to the literal political council you answer to and work for. You make political choices all the time. The game is filled to the brim with politics and people love it.

The devs have already said they want to include it just don't want to rush. Also, a lot of lore for most characters dont say if they are gay or not, use your imagination.

I just don't want this game to become damn politics, i hear enough about it irl.

The existence of LGBT people is not political. Adding politics would be something wholly different. As for the homophobes, why should the devs kowtow to them?

When i said "being sexually oriented is very normal" i was talking about every kind of "sexual orientation" (pedophilia trashcans apart), not just straights, but all this propaganda is making the things worst. All i see is more hate being generated by it and it's normal, i can't judge it. Talking about human psychology, the more you abuse about a topic, politically speaking, the more you generate people who think against. LGBTQ+ movement will build up more hate. No doubt it. For me, this is simply not the way.

The fact that you're bi is not relevant. I'm bi too.

Funny, the same things were said about women's rights, black rights, and more. Did those movements just stop because certain people were complaining? No.

If you (this is a generic "you", I don't mean you specifically) support equal treatment, then you can't blame that equal treatment for your hatred.

Yea so you see the problem here then? The game is rated M for mature but parents still let their kids play BUT the parents won't put that blame on themselves, they'll point it at the game and the devs, and then the media will jump on it like they always do. This has also been going on for years to other games.

Yes I know that's not how it works, calm down I am only saying that showing underdeveloped kids that kind of stuff can turn them in a direction they might not want to go. Not so much for Lesbian or Gay but the more extreme stuff and I use the word "extreme" only because you can change/alter your appearance and won't be able to reverse it. It is not intended to be offensive.

I should also mention that by "kid" I mean anyone younger than 15. Maybe 16

Then maybe it's time for someone to stand up to those unreasonable people. Why should we kowtow to cancel culture? Let's add explicitly LGBT relationships and when someone wants to cancel the game because their kids play it, we say "no".

Tbh, I was kind of under the impression that, at least, Meg, Claudette, Zarina, Nea, Ace, Felix, and maybe even Dwight fell somewhere on the spectrum. My main survivor characters are Ace, Dwight, Claudette, Jake, and Adam, in that order. I am a straight male. The characters' sexuality, or perception thereof, has never played a part in whether I want to play as them or not. The great thing about a video game that doesn't provide backgrounds on characters preferences are that you can make them whatever they want to be. BHVR doesn't need "HEY ALL LGBTQ PEOPLE PLAY THIS CHARACTER BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST LIKE YOU" bs. Just accept the characters for who and what they are.

That argument falls flat when several characters (including Felix, just FYI) have explicitly heterosexual relationships in their lore.

So you explain the context to them and ignore the unreasonable ones who won't listen. Problem solved.

I also know that there are some kids that play this game and I STRONGLY believe that they do not need to know about this kind of stuff at a young age from a game. so again, I only see more problems than solutions coming from this.

As someone who didn't know bisexuality was a thing until his late teens despite having felt attracted toward boys and girls since he was a child, this is BS. Furthermore, if kids are playing the game, I'd be far more worried about their exposure to the violence and toxic people than a line of lore they will never read. I'd also be worried about them for their parents.

Again that's a DBD issue or an internet issue. It's not a Steam issue.

And how do you explain that my boyfriend, my friend, and me are having the same problem without even being in a game?

It's a Steam issue, not an Internet issue nor a DbD issue.

It almost seems like heterosexuality is the abnormal thing these days. Way too many people consider themselves LGBT just because that's what's popular. Its frustrating.

Or, y'know, they feel confident in coming out because there's more acceptance now than a few decades ago? But nah, must be "the trend". That's why I felt attracted to boys and girls all the way back when I was a kid, before the Internet was even a thing in my country.

Steam hasnt gone down for maintenance a few days at a time recently. It goes down once every tuesday night. Hate to break it to you but it might just be your internet.

It's not, unless it's also mine, my boyfriend's, and a friend of mine's.
