i did multiple times this guy keeps ahrrasing me in steam and even had 3 games with him where i was tricked to join a lobby with him it's pretty horrible

If he's harassing you in Steam, then you need to report him in/to Steam. BHVR cannot do anything about harassment outside of DbD.

  • Yes, but name and shame is not allowed on the forum. You need to report him in-game.

I think he might be referring/mistaking the initial calibration new accounts need to go through

Nope, OP was literally saying that the devs were disregarding all the background data-gathering. Surprisingly, they were right.

  • Can you explain what the problem is, exactly? We need full sentences (with paragraphs, please don't post walls of text, and remember to use punctuation). Right now we can't understand what you mean.

    • There is a hidden room behind a closed, metal door located in the Rift Lab. It can only be accessed by blinking with The Nurse
    • at a very specific range. It will not spawn if the Basement

      • There are four dead scientists in the room, each one with a bottle in their hands. There are also two cooler crates with more bottles scattered throughout the room, and a monitor and a PC on the floor. The main element of the room is a board containing the following:
    • EGC (Abbreviation for Endgame Collapse)
    • [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s1: The electronic configuration of the element Gold (Au).
    • A drawing of a molecule: It represents the molecule formed by combining terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, forming a compound named ethylene terephthalate, commonly referred to as polyester.
      • This is a reference to the YouTuber Paulie Esther, who is known for diving deep into Dead by Daylight's secrets.
    • This room was added as a clue to the location of the Golden Toolbox on The Underground Complex map.

Most likely, if I get incredulous, the molecule could refer to Hawkins' map or that room contained something in some event.

Could also be a reference to the show. I don't remember something like this showing up, but then I quickly lost interest in it.

I never realized this, what disturbing data, the Xenon and the electron configuration will be the clue to find the treasure?

"[Xe]" is just a short way of saying "up until here, this has the same electron configuration as Xenon". The full thing is the electron configuration of gold. I'm guessing the molecule corresponds to the actual map structure.

Yes, I believe it contains a clue as to where to find the golden toolbox on Hawkins.

You guys are agreeing with me. Not everyone wants to try hard all the time. By all means, match me against ultra sweats when I feel like playing that way. But some days I just don't feel like going all out. Should I just not load up DbD that day? How is that a solution?

So I lose some games, my MMR goes down, and then I feel like trying my hardest again. Those players won't have fun. I *am* thinking about those players. When I want to sweat, let me queue for that. When I don't want to sweat, let me opt out of it into a separate queue.

And what's stopping you (or someone who's less than well-intentioned) from going into unranked (or equivalent) just to troll the people trying to play casually?

The solution to occasionally playing casually when you usually "try hard" is to accept that you're going to lose. Like OP, you seem to want to play casually, yet still win, which can only happen if you're going up against unskilled opponents.

Mechanical skill is separate from playstyle intent. For my Nurse for example, I can 4k at 5 gens with a full meta build or literally run only BBQ no add ons, have a decent chill game, and still 4k with everyone having decent BP. Without MMR, a player like myself can queue up and get a decent variety.

With MMR on a killer like Nurse for me, I have only been matched with 3k+ hr squads. The chill has been completely removed from the game on Nurse for me. That's simply not fun all the time.

What about the players you're killing? Did you ever think about how much fun it was for them to be killed before being able to repair a single gen?

To be clear, you're saying that:

    • MMR necessarily has to start everyone at zero
    • The devs have been gathering MMR data for months in preparation for this test
    • Despite having months of data, they decided to reset everyone's MMR anyway (i.e.: throw away months of data-gathering) so everyone starts at 0 anyway

Do I have that right? Does that seem reasonable to you?

Thanks for all the feedback you’ve been providing thus far on the MMR Test that’s going on.

We’ve made adjustments since the previous tests and this has meant that the data collected was reset for this particular test. In view of that, you might find more disparity between your matches initially (especially with killers that you’ve not played much of recently) but with continued play these matches should balance out as the system adjusts to what is happening live, resulting in more balanced matches.

We will be continuing to monitor and welcome your further feedback.

Holy #########, the devs did actually throw out the data for this test.

  • @Ink_Eyes said:

I really wish they had ranked and normal game modes, people who want to play for ''escapes'' and ''win'' can always play ranked and people who play for fun can play normal, a dumb decision for the devs not to do so, kinda frustrating to play solo queue, some people there are so ''chill'' that they disconnect or don't even try to actually escape.

People who play for escapes/kills can also play unranked, there's literally nothing keeping them separated except the push of a button. MMR, however, will keep them separate.

I love this game and want it to be better.

I decided to play for 3 hours yesterday as the legion (who I have played maybe 10 times) while trying to do one of his tome challenges (using mad.grit discordance and iron maiden let only 1 survivor live max). For those 3 hours I tried to get to survivors on the other end of large maps and even used frenzy to cut the gap...every game 2 gens popped before I got there (springwood, ormond, McMillan etc.) In some cases I was lucky to push off a survivor to start a short chase and apply pressure but it would not matter...my longest matches were 10 minutes long with many injuries and some slugging maybe a 1k.

The mmr is garbage since I was put up with mostly purple and reds my whole time (one group had a yellow and another had a brown). 3 hours of gen rushing with a killer I barely play. Not using slowdown perks just shows me that killers cannot physically reach some of the farther gens before they pop without some kind of gen regression (discordance did not help in most cases).

Give survivors a second objective...if I felt that helpless as what was supposed to be a "new " legion killer then these new players WILL leave after a few games.

I hope this helps in some way.

When threads are moved, a closed "copy" is left behind. Next time, post the feedback in the proper section.

You really, really don't want that. Trust me. It is fun for a few months and then it becomes torturous. Full meta builds, strongest killers, scummiest tactics all trial long, it never ends

Unless you don't use those things, in which case you'll be matched with people who play at roughly the same level as you, whether they're trying hard to keep up or not.

Semantics are in every argument. What it means is gathering data. How are they gathering data if they dont have a point to start trom? That point to start from would have to be baseline. Baseline = 0.

If youre gonna come at me with such a weaksauce argument and then try to attack my character, do better. If not. Then pls do not waste my time.

    It's individual for each killer.

If you play a killer you've never played before, or very little, or not for a long time (so that your experience with it falls outside of the window the data collection covers) it's going to be a 0.

Yes, but OP is referring to all killers, not just from killers you don't play often.

So why should we take you at your word when the devs have said that's not how it works?

  • @Bullettimegod said:

And here you are just talking about balancing the game. The fact is that it needs to be fun too. Nobody wants to play a balanced but unfun game after all.

As such this MMR test is a bit more complicated than people make it out.

Maybe they should not have told us that is was a "test" but should have said this is the "Entity on Madness"-event, coming to your DbD server once a year to give you an new and fresh experience and a chance to get your adept archivements.

I so far had a mixed bag of matches but I always found a match without a huge waiting time. Sometimes I would get better survivors, sometimes I would get stomped by Red Ranks. But at least now it is a mixed bag. Before this I rarely got a lobby with one or two survivors below my level. Only some above my level. Even while climbing up after the rank roulette made me rank 18.

So, I enjoy this test. Think of it as an event.

I think a balanced game would be fun. Why do you assume they're not related?

  • The point of these tests is to figure out if MMR is working properly. If it's not, the devs need data to be able to understand why.

For the record, it's working fine for me.

  • @Bullettimegod said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259099#Comment_2259099

Because every game has mmr starts at zero? Can you post where the devs said that about mmr?

    @Almo said:

MMR is not yet actively creating matches. It is still taking data in the background. We will let you know when it starts making matches! :)

The devs have said this so many times, it took about 3 seconds to find it.

  • According to the devs, the system is supposed to have taken in measurements before it was activated. Where do you get "MMR starts at 0" from?

  • Grey area, kind of. Long story short, if you get banned for that by EAC, the devs won't unban you. It's "use at your own risk".

It failed the last time, it failed this time. In theory they are gathering all this data every game. They can test it on the PTB.

The game is effectively disabled for me during this test because I’m literally being matched with people playing their first game.

I’d be surprised if the rank 20 Dwight who didn’t know how to equip his 1 perk keeps playing after being matched with players who have thousands of hours repeatedly. They are just going to move to the next game because you are either hooked to a game in the first 20-30 minutes or you move to the next one.

It failed the last time, it failed this time.

Works fine for me, just like last time. Besides, that's why it's being tested, because it needs tweaking. It's not a full and permanent implementation. That's what "testing" means.

In theory they are gathering all this data every game. They can test it on the PTB.

PTB does not get hundreds of thousands of players, and the ones who do go there are almost always not playing the way they would be if it were the live build. Data gathered on the PTB would be useless.

The game is effectively disabled for me during this test because I’m literally being matched with people playing their first game.

The simplest way to explain how MMR works is that it's like trying to guess a number between 1 and 1000 while only knowing if it's higher or lower than your guess. We all know how this goes: you start by guessing 500, then they tell you higher/lower so you guess 750/250, and so on.

You're focusing on Otzdarva's skill (whatever that is) while completely ignoring the 4 survivors whose skill may not have been determined yet. The MMR does need some restrictions on these guesses, but this does not demonstrate a failure with the MMR per se.

They are just going to move to the next game because you are either hooked to a game in the first 20-30 minutes or you move to the next one.

I literally have ADHD and I give a game more than 30 minutes to grab my attention. That doesn't sound reasonable in the slightest unless you're used to games that are literally designed to be addictive, like mobile games.

  • @SilentPill said:

No. I can’t. I’m a paying customer who expects a working product. I’m not a software tester for behavior.

Do you think any company on Earth has the resources to pay hundreds of thousands of people to test an MMR in a game they've likely never played before? Fact is, MMR can only be tested one way: live testing.

  • (I'm taking a short break, figured I'd pop back in.)

    @MeltingPenguins said:

The devs got it a bit backwards right now. As in, sure, this is just a test, but, as long as they still declare things like tunneling, slugging, camping, and swf without any identification as such to be fair and square and legit and 'necessary' you can't really have a 'skillbased' system.

Like, when you have people who get to red ranks within a week through tunneling, camping and slugging, do they have any skill with the killer they're playing? no.

When survivors get to red ranks in a week cause they are continuously on swfs with voicechat (and maybe even got pulled by an experienced player) do they have skill? no.

On the flipside: when you have people who let survivors go because they're good enough that the match would have ended fairly quickly (as in 4-6 hooks before the second gen) and they felt pity/compassion, are they bad? on the contrary.

when you have survivors that know how to counter the various killers et all but take a lot of hits/hooks on purpose to protect their teammates and theoretically could get all of the others out, do they lack skill cause they got hit/hooked often and didn't do much in terms of gens? no.

So, until the mechanics etc aren't overhauled a skillbased system won't pan out.

Just because something is harder to do or more entertaining to watch/play against doesn't mean it's more skilled. A skilled player will find and use the most efficient ("efficient" meaning "that which guarantees the highest winrate for the least amount of effort) way to win. Using the most efficient way to win shows that the player understands the intricacies of the game.

  • I have stuff to do today, so I'll just leave with this:

If MMR works the way it's supposed to, you'll basically go up against people who play as hard (or casually) as you. If you only go up against people who are trying their hardest to win, then it's because you are also trying your hardest to win in most (if not all) of your trials. It's that simple. And I couldn't be happier with that.

  • The simplest way to explain how MMR works is that it's like trying to guess a number between 1 and 1000 while only knowing if it's higher or lower than your guess. We all know how this goes: you start by guessing 500, then they tell you higher/lower so you guess 750/250, and so on.

"Losing" for me is mostly having little to no blood points since I need them to p3 my hag, and also cuz I need to get all perks to all characters. So, when I say that I'll lose 30 matches, I mean that I will intentionally don't get that much bloodpoints so I won't pip, which will be a waste of time and resources. That's also the main reason that I don't like nurse, I love her, but I'm extremely bad at her. Even if I 4k, I'll lose a ton more bloodpoints than if I played pig or Hag. I know that my way of "losing" and "wining" is kinda bland and lame but I basically describe it as:

    Stonks!

(I wanted to add a gif here but it didn't work :( rip)

For me a perfect game is getting as many bps as possible. If I get that my bloodpoint stonks go up and I can invest on p3ing hag faster, that is my end goal. If I intentionally lose bloodpoints so I can have more chill games, the stonks will go down, which will slow down my goal.

But I admit that I might be the only one that thinks that way xD

Assuming that win is a 4k or escape, then yes, this would annoy and hurt the casual community, probably. I can't say with certainty :/

Your definition of winning/losing is not in question here, nor is it even relevant. As @Noz put it, you want to win even if you're not actually trying to, by going up against people who are below your skill level.

    Thats a good argument xD

I love how all of you take the pokemon example seriously, even tho, to be fair, I've done that before

Long story short, a swf didn't wanna play the game cuz they were 3 of em and I had a 3gen as blight, so I completed the whole elite 4 whilst they were busy hiding in the basement.

I got a 30k bp game with bbq fully stacked a survivor pudding and a bps, so it was worth it in the end xD

I didn't take it seriously, I was working within your analogy. My point is that at any moment, you can stop playing casually and the other players have no way to deal with that. Since you already demonstrated you don't like to lose, I think this is how you would behave in 99% of cases.

    1.)

If MMR works as intended, you should be trying your hardest every game, since the players around you are of equal skill. For me, I'd have to run meta on every Killer if I wanted to have a chance to win at my current MMR. That just doesn't sound appealing to me, and many other players have expressed the same sentiments.

But, if you enjoy that, I have no room to judge.

    2.)

Publicity is an issue. A game without a large content creating community is a dead game. Think about what streamers like Otz, Hexy, Cope ect do for the game. I give them 6 months before they are as burnt out as Tru3 clearly is.

    3.)

The issues are already known. Anyone with a reasonable understanding of the game knows that it is not balanced and certainly not fun at high Ranks. The issues have been pointed out but nothing has been done. I see no reason why BHVR would immediately start on a fix.

As another example of that, the Optimization of this game is pretty abysmal. The game can be borderline unplayable for Console's and has been for years. BHVR said they would do something about it, but that was 2 years ago. Since then, it's only gotten worse.

BHVR does not address fundamental issues. They only bandaid them.

    4.)

Not having a visual indication only makes it slightly harder for people to abuse it. If you throw 20 matches and only hit 3 people, your MMR will plummet. I don't think anyone needs a visual indicator to know that and to abuse it.

But, if you enjoy that, I have no room to judge.

You should only be trying your hardest to win if you actually want to rank up, though. I play casually and went up with/against others who played casually, for the most part. Win or lose, I am always relaxed. Except in that one Nurse game because survivors don't know how to loop her and never touched a single generator. That one was annoying.

Publicity is an issue. A game without a large content creating community is a dead game. Think about what streamers like Otz, Hexy, Cope ect do for the game. I give them 6 months before they are as burnt out as Tru3 clearly is.

Can we not overstate the importance of "content creators"? Games were sold long before Twitch and YouTube were a thing and they continue to be sold now, even without them.

The issues are already known. Anyone with a reasonable understanding of the game knows that it is not balanced and certainly not fun at high Ranks. The issues have been pointed out but nothing has been done. I see no reason why BHVR would immediately start on a fix.

I literally agreed with your 8 months timeline. That's not "immediately". I'm beginning to think you're not reading what I'm writing.

Not having a visual indication only makes it slightly harder for people to abuse it. If you throw 20 matches and only hit 3 people, your MMR will plummet. I don't think anyone needs a visual indicator to know that and to abuse it.

However, as OP already so helpfully demonstrated, people who like to "sweat" do care if they win or lose, so they'd never do that on purpose. They'd try to find a way to game the system so they can still crush the other player(s), but without actually ranking up.

  • @fogdonkey said:

And you can still do that, you will just not escape probably, your rank will go down a bit and that's it.

How should the game know that you are playing Pokemon at the same time and therefore you should be matched up with potatoes?

I have another question: why should the game match you with potatoes just because you're playing Pokémon? At any point, you can put down the game and crush them all, which is definitely not fun for them.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2258636#Comment_2258636

I agree, that I would lose if I played chill, but here's a counterargument:

I've reached red ranks with high MMR and instead of playing sweaty ghostface that I've been playing, I wanna play a game with add-ons that only reveal info without slowdown. I won't win that game. The game will be balanced around the top 5 builds for every killer, which admittedly is already happening, but at least now I have a chance that the rng gods will give me awful survivors, or survivors that just wanna have fun.

Also if I play in the top 1% (I'm not even close to the top 1% but let's assume that I am) then I'll probably get matched with nurse or spirit. No killer in their right minds will play any other killer and expect to win in the top 1%. So since more than half of the roaster and perks are not intended for higher levels of play, wouldn't that make all of em completely useless and unplayable?

The counterargument to that I assume will be "then just don't reach the top 1%". Well if me and my friends decided to sweat for a week to prepare for a tournament, then I'm already at the top 1%. So if I wanna have fun again I'd have to lose about 30 games in a row to get to a medium MMR and have fun, which isn't great is it? Because most people don't like losing, even for a higher purpose.

Because most people don't like losing, even for a higher purpose.

And there we have the crux of the issue: you say you don't care about losing, but you actually do, which is why you don't want the MMR. You want the freedom to choose between clubbing baby seals (when you don't feel like trying as hard to win as before) or going up against people of your own skill level. That's not going to happen, and I'm honestly glad it's going away.

I think you'll get burnt out a ton faster.

The streaming community is also going to take a massive hit.

Personally, I think it's going to highlight balance issues at high MMR which will take at least 8 months for any changes to be implemented.

Also, I don't like that we have no visual indication of MMR, it'd make me a lot more likely to grind if I could see how good I am compared to others.

I think you'll get burnt out a ton faster.

I was burned out because it was always either "get crushed by a killer", or "crush a killer", with nothing inbetween.

I think I'll do just fine if trials are actually more varied and actually allow for more diversity in gameplay.

The streaming community is also going to take a massive hit.

They can play more (or less) relaxed if they so choose. That's not really a problem for the devs, as far as I'm concerned.

Personally, I think it's going to highlight balance issues at high MMR which will take at least 8 months for any changes to be implemented.

    I'll take it.

You know what's worse than waiting 8 months for changes to be implemented? Not having the issues highlighted and fixed in the first place.

Also, I don't like that we have no visual indication of MMR, it'd make me a lot more likely to grind if I could see how good I am compared to others.

As you know, people would exploit that to try to cheat the system.

That's not the point though. People don't have some kind of singular way of playing. Sometimes I want to play at the high level against high level players, other times I just want to mess around with friends and have fun in SWF without a care in the world if I escape. Despite the flaws of old matchmaking, to it's credit, it did often allow people to do this. There was at least variety in matches. For me at least, a perfect MMR system (not that it would even be possible) would be incredibly boring.

You can still do that. If you truly don't care about escaping, then you won't care when you die.

I'll take trials that are always at my skill level instead of trials that are either against people who are stupidly more (or less) skilled than I am. I don't like clubbing baby seals any more than I like being mauled by bears.

If sometimes I play perfectly and sweat and sometimes I chill and really don't care about the outcome of a match? Wouldn't that break the balance of the MMR?

Think of it this way: as a survivor I can tryhard and pull off long chases. But other times I wanna play hook sabo claud and come out of a bush to ruin a killer's day. Sometimes I wanna play Pokemon alongside playing dbd because I really don't care about the outcome. A player doesn't only tryhard or playing chill, a player will play according to their mood.

Then you would lose while "playing chill" after "sweating" for a prolonged period of time. My guess, however, is that you wouldn't "play chill" for very long if you were constantly losing. Not many people say they don't care about winning and mean it. When push comes to shove, they'll likely try as hard as they can to win.

  • Because both sides would have to sweat their pants off to win

No, that's not how the MMR would work. In practice, a perfect MMR would place you against people who play like you do. If you play without regard for whether you win or lose, making a lot of mistakes because you're not really thinking about the most optimal plays, and so on, you'd be matched against people who do the same. If you play to win every single time, you'd be placed against people who do the same.

So yes, I do want a perfect MMR.

  • My only problem with Nurse is survivors who don't know how to loop her. I mean, if I can pick up this game after a long break (well over a month) and loop a red rank Nurse who's using Plaid Flannel, you can definitely learn to loop Nurses.

It feels so random but my personal best maybe was like 4-5 blades within closer range? I don't count them.

    What's "closer range" for you? 10 m?

  • Because you lost. Do you expect to be rewarded when you lose just because your opponent used a strategy or character you didn't like?

At this point, my number one concern with this is that EVERY SINGLE wraith I've faced since I came back after the buff is screwing with the numbers. They are actively cheating the system by ALWAYS letting the last survivor go. It protects them from ranking up too much, it stops the devs from seeing that the wraith got over-buffed, and it is flat out cheating.

    Stop it.

Why a base game killer should be even remotely good is beyond me. They should suck. You should have to pay for the better killers. It is a business after all.

Sarcasm doesn't translate well into writing, just for the record.

It is. If you paid for it, you should be able to say whatever the ######### you want on it. Censorship is never, ever a good thing. Not even once; no exceptions.

If I pay for a hotel room, I agreed to a certain list of terms that gives the hotel the freedom to kick me out if I ######### on their floor. No amount of "BUT I PAID FOR THE ROOM" is going to get them to not kick me out.

We don't live in a capitalist dystopia where, if you pay for a good or service, you're free to use it however you want, even to the detriment of others (including other customers and the creators/owners of that good/service). You agreed to the EULA. If you felt you couldn't follow it, then you shouldn't have agreed to it.

  • No, but if that were to happen (and it did happen in a different game), I would immediately stop playing because I was being a dick to my friends for no reason. It's just a game, and should be handled as such.
