Just because you don't like it doesn't make it scummy. Also, not only do I not care about challenges, I haven't played killer in a long time.

People pick the path of least resistance. It's just logical not to walk 100 km (20 hours of nonstop walking) when you can drive that distance (1 hour, maybe). Doesn't make you lazy, makes you smart.

Yes. The same thing was asked about NOED, Moris, DS, MoM, and so on. They were all nerfed (and Moris are on the chopping block again).

Adding context is "Not" the job of the reader. Simple example the dog jumped? Which way did the dog jump? Further on: The dog jumped away? Again did the jump up, down, left or right? Now go back and read grief 2nd amendment. Targeting - aiming at one person - tunneling. Repeatedly - defined more than once, twice, or more. Then if you are unhooked and then re-targeted (again) and hit there is repeat and rebooked. You just defined the 2nd amendment to grief. Then further on causing to ruin game experience. Tunneling and babysitting then do ruin game experience. All summed up in that sentence. Then it is a contradiction of terms. Tunneling and babysitting do cause grief and are ban-able offences but we won't do anything about it. Is the contradiction they chose to ignore.
You're being overly pedantic. This isn't a legal document, it's quite clear what they mean.

This is basically just a watered-down version of KYF. It should just be regular DbD, if it must exist.

Here i make a list of what happens in this forum lately
- Most of people says spirit cant be countered and looped (insert mindgame bla2 whatever it is)
- Some people says spirit can be countered, giving some clues ex double vaulting, double backing and claims it can counter spirit
- Finally one people accepting scott challenge
- Suddenly all the people said not all spirits are that good and some excuses they gave like 1v1 is not valid (maybe some killer can chase more than 2 person at one time) dunno eh
- Final step, no one wanna accept Scott challenge anymore and give prove that spirit can be countered, they will just throw excuse
I can say right now that I wouldn't accept his challenge because:
- I'm not a very good survivor, IMO
- I'm rusty
- I rely on stealth, which, even if I were to succeed at, hardly anyone would want to try

bro i do not understand this argument. you either think spirit has counterplay or you don't. how can you say i claim the entire fact she has no counterplay as MY idea. you can only believe 1 or 2. its not crazy that some people will in fact align their ideas. not everyone is a sheep, sheesh
It is because I'm not a sheep that I can agree with you on this, even if we disagree on Spirit having a counter.
For the record - and this is for everyone calling other people "sheep" for agreeing with Scott or whomever - being a contrarian doesn't make you "not a sheep". You're still defining your opinions based entirely on what someone else said, just in a different way.

No condescension intended, but I've noticed people have a tendency to assume my opinion is the same as someone else's whose opinion I'm sharing/talking about, even if they asked for it or if it's the topic of conversation. A common example is the devs' opinions on a certain topic, which others try to force me to defend as if it were my own. I just wanted to be completely explicit that it's his opinion I'm talking about and that I wasn't sharing my own.

I could probably just say whatever and agree to this. But I do certainly think that you have way too strict of a definition of what holding a game hostage is.
Hostage situations aren't eternal. Your definition that it must be indefinite is kind of disingenuous. If you see what I'm saying.
It's the devs' definition, which is what matters. I'm not being disingenuous, just trying to give factual (non-opinion based) information.

Well, since it's a thing on the forum, I can only assume it's a thing in-game as well, but maybe a mod like @MandyTalk or @Rizzo90 can confirm.

@TGB said:
I'd call it more.
Slugging is a strategy that you literally HAVE to use if you expect Decisive Strike. And it's a strategy that you SHOULD use if you downed a Surv, and then there's another great opportunity for you that you'll miss out on if you grab the downed Surv.
However, idling at the opened exit gates as the entire Survivor roster, fully healed and nothing to accomplish remaining in the game, but still standing there for the entire duration of the end game timer just because you want to BM the Killer...
That is objectively way more "holding the game hostage" than strategically slugging.
By a lot.
You're right, it's not a discussion because neither of those things is holding the game hostage. Just because it's annoying and/or delays the end of the trial by a small amount doesn't mean it's holding the game hostage.
-
Disregarding the newer ones (because those always have a lower percentage, for obvious reasons), I think my rarest is the one to escape after self-unhooking.

@TGB said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/254462/what-is-considered-by-holding-the-game-hostage
Slugging is a strategy that you shouldn't feel shunned out of utilizing. There are many great reasons to leave a Survivor on the ground.
Survivors in DBD will try to shame you for doing literally every single thing that isn't afk'ing and letting them free farm. And I mean every single thing.
Frankly, don't even feel compelled to run Deerstalker as a means of saying, "See, look, I'm using it strategically, not as a grief!" Because Deerstalker is basically strictly quality of life, but isn't really needed for slug strats.
Survivors hold the game hostage WAYYYYY more than Killers do, by the way. How many times have they all stayed at the exit gates until the last second, for literally no other reason than wanting YOU to see THEM teabagging you?
Do not let Survivors dictate what you do. They are a cesspool community that expect you to hand over your keys & wallet, and then thank them for it.

Yes, I do want you to edit your original reply. Most people aren't going to read an entire discussion thread that branches off into multiple conversations between the OP and individual users, plus among individual users themselves. If your goal wasn't to deceive, then it's a simple fix.

It doesn't. It's trivially bypassed by anyone with even a tiny streak of intelligence. And I really don't know of any reason why swears in M rated games should be filtered, while suggestion to suicide should not. BHVR had a ton of swearing on recent stream where they presented the new killer. Why censor swearing in game while having it in their own promotional video?
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/6H85EQGGKFQQ/filter1.jpg
And then people get reported for bypassing the filter. Either they get banned, or the filter gets improved.

OP was clearly asking about actual game rules, though. Please don't "muddy the waters", as it were. If you're going to give your opinion, be explicit in the comment where you give your opinion, not several comments afterward, as people will get the wrong impression.

Holding the game hostage is:
- Survivors not progressing the game by not doing generators, not activating the gate and instead hiding all game, bodyblocking other survivors into a corner, etc.
- Killers not progressing the game by slugging all 4 and watching everyone bleed out (not trying to look for/hook anybody), bodyblocking other survivors into a corner, etc.
You weren't holding the game hostage. Slugging is an important factor that can sometimes determine a win or loss. As long as you were actively trying to chase somebody else for the 4 instead of watching the survivors bleed out, you're fine.

Do you have documentation? I have interpreted dev responses to say do not play in the grey area as they have real people that make the determination and if you are doing this repeatedly, I am willing to wager it will be seen as holding the game hostage. I am not talking about single instances. If you do not have documentation, then you are simply guessing, as I am, at undefined statements in ToS. I would not walk that line, because not only could you be banned if they determine it is a pattern they dont like, but it is scummy play for all players involved and hurts the community. The latter is obviously an appeal to peoples better nature and sportsmanship.
It will be seen as griefing/harassing if you do it repeatedly to the same people, but never holding the game hostage.

The filter that mostly censors things it shouldn't and occasionally filters things it should is a filter that doesn't work in my definition.
We're talking about different filters, then. The one in DbD is the one I described.

@tester said:

I guess that depends on your definition of "work". A broken clock "works" twice a day.
On the other hand, a filter that mostly censors things it should, but then also censors some things it shouldn't and doesn't censor some things it should, definitely works, just not perfectly.
-
Why not improve the filters if they don't work perfectly?
Emphasis on "perfectly", because the filters do work, just not perfectly, like literally everything else ever made.

No because as long as they've started gens then the game is progressing if the killer can't find someone that's on him but what OP is saying makes more sense why should killers be allowed to down all survivors have them all near each other and not hook each one to end the match quicker. If the match can end quicker than it is why shouldn't the killer be classed as taking game hostage or at very least it should fall under exploiting a game mechanic.
That's not what holding the game hostage means, though. It's not any time the killer or survivors are doing anything that doesn't help end the trial, it's when they're doing something (or not doing something) that will make the trial last indefinitely.
-
I think the devs are concerned with making perks too strong that will then require nerfs, as they've done in the past (DS, MoM, etc.), because it heavily tilts the game's balance.
A bad perk simply isn't used, so the game stays more or less the same, whereas an overpowered perk gets used every single time, meaning the game changes drastically.
Furthermore, it feels better for players when bad perks are buffed than when overpowered perks are nerfed.
-
Hitting the air in survivors' directions and hitting generators when you know they're around usually works. However, you can't force survivors to farm, and doing so is bannable. Furthermore, if they don't want to farm, you'll be left with no points and essentially waste your time.
-
@stikyard said:

I honestly don't know. I've had Killers slug straight out the gate and leave us on the ground to troll people. I don't understand it. They would get more points by just hooking people. Or they follow you crawling to hatch, to close it in your face.
I really don't understand it or, why BHVR would defend it.
Obviously it's "fun" for trolls because it annoys you, but I'm talking about normal people. As someone who's had to slug all four survivors who then crawled away and didn't let me hook them, believe me, it's no more fun for the killer than it is for survivors.
-
@stikyard said:
And it's because of garbage like this that, we will never have a huge player base.
Who wants to wait in a ten minute que just to get slugged, then wait another five minutes for the game to end, so you can wait through another ten minute que...
I just wasted 25 minutes doing nothing... fun game!
Do you think slugging everyone is fun for the killer?

If we refuse to play to his rules we're in the wrong.
My advice find a new game to play while you wait out your DC or if you're on PC just open a new window and watch YouTube while they slug. Can't believe people think balance comes with perks honestly balance comes when killers can get reported for the same things survivors can.

How do the swf members ever know if the solos don;t have totem challenge for instance? or if they just like cleansing totems? Your expression lacks too many variables.
How do the swf members ever know if the solos don;t have totem challenge for instance?
They don't. However, that example isn't hypothetical, it's literally what happens with my 2-man SWF. Nearly every single time, we're the only ones bothering to cleanse totems.
-
@Aztreonam78 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2237548#Comment_2237548
What have you just said?
SWF can know how many totems were cleansed only because Solo Survivors never cleanse totems themselves? What? I don't see causal relationship in your wording
A 2-man SWF knows one of them cleansed one totem and the other cleansed two totems. They now know there are still three totems on the map.
The question is, how do they know this? SWF doesn't give you a totem counter like Small Game. SWF doesn't receive a notification when totems are cleansed.
They know this because they know, with nearly 100% certainty, that no other survivors have cleansed any totems, because survivors refuse to cleanse totems.
So if you say SWF has a totem counter, it's only because other survivors never bother to cleanse totems.
-
@Aztreonam78 said:

Why Totem Counter basekit is good is because it reduces the gap between Solo and SWF teams. SWF have way more information than solos do, and reducing the gap between them and solo followed by buffs for Killers would make the game more healthy and fair for everyone
The only way SWF could know how many totems have been cleansed is if solo survivors never cleansed any totems.

Don;t you want Survivors be more interested in cleansing Dull Totems?
Survivors already get 1000 BP for cleansing Dull Totems, in addition to helping prevent NOED, and that's for 14 seconds of holding M1. It's got one of the highest BP per second ratio.
Do you know what the Small Game counter revealed? Nobody cleanses any totems. It's why SWF almost always knows exactly how many totems remain, because they're the only ones doing it.
I'll say again: you get 1000 BP for 14 seconds of holding M1. Not even generators (the main objective) give that much BP in so little time.
-
No, it's not bannable, and it's not holding the game hostage.
Holding the game hostage means the game cannot end. Slugging has a time limit of 4 minutes. Nearly every instance of actually holding the game hostage can only be done by survivors.
-
@Aztreonam78 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2237487#Comment_2237487
Because... Totems is the side objective? no?
Generators make a lot of noise when they're repaired, so it makes sense that you keep track of them. Totems are quietly cleansed, without a notification, so it makes sense that you need something more to keep track of how many have been cleansed.
Alternatively, you could have all totems make a loud noise upon being cleansed. I'd certainly support the idea to make the counter built-in.
-
Why should they have that information for free? A side objective is not a good excuse for knowing exactly how many totems have been cleansed without a perk.
-
As survivor (all must be true):
- I'm hooked
- Only one other survivor remains
- Generators are not finished
- Other survivor found the hatch, or needs me to die in order for the hatch to spawn
As killer (all must be true):
- Gates are open, or at least powered
- No NOED or other form of insta-down
- No survivors are hooked or injured

If it's 1 then I assume it's a new player that doesn't know what they're talking about or it's an alt account. If we link they're profile to their forum account I can picture majority of people will set their profile to private and people will assume "Your new aren't you?
