You think the actual human player fell asleep on purpose during a stream to derank? How would that even work?

It's not to dismiss people, but having new players talk about balance I feel the devs should know they're new players even if we cant. People will always be rude to others as that's just how it is but showing stats alongside their experiences would help for a better understanding
Feedback from new players is important as well, if you want player retention. Furthermore, it's blatantly obvious when someone only recently started playing (often they'll literally tell you that themselves).
There is no reason why experience should be tied to opinions unless your goal is to dismiss people or otherwise make their opinions "count less".
-
Nah. I'd rather not give people a new excuse for dismissing comments/users they don't like. This would just drive up the elitism.

Your fundamental knowledge of DbD carries over to every killer you play, regardless of how much you play them. You should be getting similar-ish results with every killer if you're a good player, and slightly better results with the killer you main. If MMR started at a low score for a killer you don't play that would be terrible for the game and not a logical system at all. An example: Say you almost never play Wraith, but you're a good player and you play a lot of Trapper, Clown, whatever and do really well. You shouldn't be put against bad survivors as Wraith just because you don't play him much, because that's not fair. You'd stomp those survivors without even breaking a sweat because you're a good killer player in general and those skills carry over to every killer.
MMR will be killer-specific, though. It won't be completely reset since some skills do carry over, as you mentioned, but each killer will have their own MMR. Survivors won't because survivors are skins; the gameplay is identical for every one of them.

So either you have an inside source, or you happened to correctly predict the chapter was going to have the most iconic characters in Resident Evil, like most people believed.

Because they will say "No" even if they are temporarily testing it or doing some A/B testing or experiment.
When they say "No" it just means that it was not officially activated.
Because they will say "No" even if they are temporarily testing it or doing some A/B testing or experiment.
The last temporary test had an announcement, with start and end dates and times and everything. Kinda blows your claim out of the water.
When they say "No" it just means that it was not officially activated.
Oddly enough, they'd also say "no" if it was, in fact, off.
Like I asked OP, if your starting position is that the people who can confirm/deny something are lying if they disagree with you, then why ask? You're set in your position, there's no way anyone can convince you you're wrong if you're just going to assume they're lying/wrong if they tell you something that goes against your position.

Better than believing everything, especially if it's from BHVR.
Here's the thing, though: the devs are the only ones who can tell you for certain. Anything else is 100% speculative. If your starting point is "you can't trust what the devs say", then you are, in fact, saying that it's impossible to know.
I mean, why even ask if the only people who can tell you for sure are people whose word you don't believe in? If they say something that goes against your position, you'll assume they're lying and that you're right. If they support you, you'll assume that you're right. Either way, your opinion remains the same, because it's independent of what they say.

If you use pips to tell what is a win, then there can be win-win or lose-lose situations? Is it possible that the killer and survivors depip at the same time?
At certain ranks, yes, which makes pips a bit irrelevant, if you ask me. Who's ever heard of a competitive game where everyone wins or loses?

Affordability does not equate to standard. I gotta disagree with you on this. However we simply have to wait and see. I could be wrong though I'm fairly certain I'm not. I've spent to much of my life working with this stuff to not have an incling into the ears of industry professionals in tv, animation, film, and yes games to know their thoughts on what's coming and what the industry itself considers standard.
Industry standards are irrelevant if people can't actually get the hardware, though. What good is an industry standard of 16k resolutions if two thirds of all gamers have 1080p monitors and their GPUs lack the power to output at those resolutions?
-
@MongolPSR said:

I mean.... only a decade and a half ago the idea console games running at 60fps was lunacy, with it the idea of server tick rates being higher than 20 or 30 was also crazy.
Around the same time we thought that 1080p was as good as it gets. Now 4k is quickly becoming the standard for resolution with 8k already having a niche audience and 16k beginning to be actually usable for filming.
My point is that it's unwise to discredit the medium of gaming for not advancing in technology. The medium is simply getting bigger and better every single year in terms of technical quality. While this current gen is laying off resolution as it's basically caught up to movie standards we have turned to other technical advances like proprietary ssd memory usage that allows for loading time several times faster than ever thought possible on previous hardware. This is of course with the thought that dbd is here for the foreseeable future. It's life span as a live service game longer than games we use to play only a decade ago.
Around the same time we thought that 1080p was as good as it gets. Now 4k is quickly becoming the standard for resolution with 8k already having a niche audience and 16k beginning to be actually usable for filming.
1080p is still the standard. Steam reports that over 2/3 of all users have a 1080p monitor, and that percentage actually increased slightly, with higher resolutions other than 1440p showing a decrease in usage.
4k is a gimmick, 8k is ridiculous, and 16k is just pointless. Fun fact: due to the human eye's finite resolution, a screen that filled your entire FOV at a certain distance (not sure about the value, but I think it's the average distance that we place monitors at) would have to be around 8k for you to be unable to perceive individual pixels. Screens, however, don't fill your entire FOV, meaning that 8k is already overkill.
Another fun fact: movie theaters don't have 8k movies, despite having screens that are, quite literally, the size of small buildings.
My point is that it's unwise to discredit the medium of gaming for not advancing in technology.
I'm not discrediting anything, I'm saying that unless you know exactly how everything is going to go, "future proofing" is simply not possible. You have no way of knowing if DbD will even still be around in 3 years, nor if people will go for monitors with higher refresh rates and resolution. I doubt they will, given that GPUs that can handle those resolutions and refresh rates have become prohibitively costly and don't seem to be dropping in price, since the manufacturers figured out that people are going to pay stupidly high prices anyway.

But what about 3 years from now? I'm talking future proofing the game for when that technology does become the standard.
Of course most people don't have monitors or tvs that handle that. Unless your someone like me who lives and breathes high end equipment as I work as a professional in the content creation world and need it to be able to work from home instead of heading to the studio every day. Plus its just super nice.
No such thing as "future proofing" unless you can see the future, though. You don't know if higher (>60 Hz) refresh rates are going to become standard. Personally, to "future proof" my eyeballs, I'm going to stick with 60 Hz, so I don't need to buy a super powerful GPU just to be able to get a stable high FPS.
EDIT: Hell, 3 years from now DbD might no longer exist.

Oh. My bad, I take back my confused complaint then. Would this also happen to affect survivors as well?
No, because survivors are skins, and therefore they'll all have the same MMR.
-
It's for MMR, because each killer (character) is going to have a different rank. Otherwise you'll be facing the equivalent of good red rank survivors while trying to learn a new killer.
-
There shouldn't be any need for 120 Hz, though, given that most monitors have a 60 Hz refresh rate anyway, with a tiny fraction going to 120 Hz and an even smaller fraction going higher than that..
-
Just buffs. His core is fine the way it is, it's just too weak right now. Maybe requiring 3-4 hits for each health state?
-
I'm a bit ambivalent.
On the one hand, the idea is to let you know you're about to be in the dying state, and it could be seen as a drawback to being in the Deep Wound state, which needs to be something more than a regular injury, but less than the dying state.
On the other hand, barely being able to see might be too strong.

A few things I'd like to note. Keep in mind that this is mostly speculative, but based on my understanding of the game:
If a survivor's hitbox makes contact with this cone at any point while this cone is active, it will register a hit and THEN trigger the animation.
If the cone has more than one target, it will prioritize one target over all others, depending on multiple variables like distance, where the killer was "aiming", and so on. So it is possible that a survivor's hitbox will be inside the cone, yet the survivor will remain unscathed.
If it's a lunge, the animation plays at the end of the lunge, but the cone lingers juuuust a bit longer than the follow through of the swing, so the same rule applies.
The game doesn't actually distinguish between quick attacks and lunges. It's all the same animation, but one lasts longer than the other (depending on how long you hold M1) and has a formula applied to it to determine how long the recovery period is going to be, based on how long the animation itself was. The killer's movement speed is also adjusted to give them all the same reach.
-
Makes the game (and characters) easier to balance if the killers' "core characteristics" are similar.

How the hell are 4 gens getting done in 2 minutes? Are you even looking for survivors?
80 seconds (1 minute and 20 seconds) for 3 generators while they're looking for and chasing one survivor, assuming the survivors are split. Then, if the 3 survivors work on the gen the other one started, it's conceivable that they could finish it within 2 minutes. That's without taking perks and items into account.
However, it's hard to tell time in stressful situations, so I wouldn't take the 2 minutes thing too literally.
-
Alright, let me call my SWF teammate via WhatsApp on my phone. Now what?
You can't stop people from using comms, it's just not possible.
-
You are not holding the game hostage because the survivors will bleed out, eventually. Holding the game hostage means it cannot progress, and nearly every instance of this is due to survivors' actions.

Yes, now how does that change the fact that I have said.
Then you're aware that transliterations are not perfect, particularly when they're from east Asian languages into English. "Feng" is simply a bad transliteration of the original, Mandarin name; it should be "Fung", or close to it.
That's why we need to use IPA when discerning how to pronounce a transliterated word, instead of relying on the (usually poor) quality of the transliteration itself.

No every name will be pronounced differently in a different accent from anywhere around the world.
Already covered this. An accent is not the same thing as using a different word altogether.

We're talking about other names than just that one.
One example is as good as another. I chose that one because I don't have the letters on my keyboard to spell "Feng Min" in Mandarin (since you're going off of the transliteration, and I'd have to show you how the name is actually written), and copy/pasting gets boring.
-
@Kirkylad said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2231350#Comment_2231350
Even if another native speaker is using English they're still going to say the word with there own accent and not an English one. England has got lots of different accents so words and names are said differently all over but no one is saying then wrong they're just saying them in their accent.
We're not talking about accents, though. No accent going to make you pronounce "Joseph" as "Josè"; those are just two different (albeit similar) names.

Names are pronounced differently all over the world. My name sounds different when said from anyone in wales, Scotland or Ireland but no ones pronouncing it wrong that's just how they say it.
Pronouncing it with an accent is not the same thing as pronouncing it following another language's pronunciation rules or just using a different word altogether (for example, "Joseph" is not "Josè"). See the edit in my previous comment.
-
@Kirkylad said:

But that's the point that's their native tongues pronunciation of the name so that's how it is said in that language.
I understand your point perfectly. I'm saying you're wrong. An English word with a correct English pronunciation doesn't stop being an English word with a correct English pronunciation just because a Spanish person is pronouncing it incorrectly with a Spanish pronunciation. "Car" is pronounced "car", no matter the speaker's language.
EDIT: For the record, I consulted with a linguist on the subject. I'm not pulling this out of my ass.

No, some names have equivalents that are different in other languages, or can be pronounced incorrectly by people who impose their native tongue's pronunciation onto foreign names. However, your name is "Joseph", no matter the speaker's language, and it is pronounced "Joseph", no matter the speaker's language.

I'm part Spanish and my name is Joseph but my grandma doesn't call me Joseph she calls me josè.
Because your grandma is making two very common mistakes:
- Assuming that you can translate names
- Assuming that names that are equivalent in two languages can be translated between them
I used to make these mistakes as well, just for the record.

Then why is the name Joseph not pronounced the same in Spanish. If you say the letters f.e.n.g in English it's pronounced feng not fung.
Then why is the name Joseph not pronounced the same in Spanish.
It is. You must be thinking of "José", which is the Portuguese and Spanish equivalent of "Joseph". They're different names, though, because you can't translate names.

Yes it is because in the English language those letters together is pronounced feng.
That's a transliteration, not how the name is actually spelled in the original language, and the correct pronunciation of a word doesn't change depending on the language of the speaker. The English word "car" is pronounced "car", whether said by someone from the UK, Brazil, Lesotho, or New Zealand. Because it is an English word, and has a (correct) English pronunciation.

I have experience with exactly what you described my last name is Polish and English people could not pronounce it so they changed it to something that English people could pronounce. Again, it's arbitrary. I am not gonna get upset because someone from a difference language can't pronounce my name. That is the reality of having a 1,000 languages in the world.
I have experience with exactly what you described my last name is Polish and English people could not pronounce it so they changed it to something that English people could pronounce.
Unless you actually changed your name, what you're talking about is just people pronouncing your name wrong.
Again, it's arbitrary.
The pronunciation in each language is arbitrary, yes, but there's still a correct and incorrect way to pronounce things. What you're saying is like saying that because the symbol for the number "one" (1) is arbitrary, then there is no "correct way" to do sums, because "1+1=543" can be correct if "1" means something else. Those two concepts are not related at all.
I am not gonna get upset because someone from a difference language can't pronounce my name.
And I didn't say you should. That's up to you. However, that doesn't mean there isn't a right and wrong way to pronounce things, especially a person's name.
-
@Gladonos said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2231068#Comment_2231068
Yes it does. Otherwise you need to speak the language of the people that lived 200,000 years ago in Africa because they invented language and that means they are right and are the only way to correctly pronounce words.
Except the word we're talking about - a person's name, as a matter of fact - comes from a very specific language and has a very specific pronunciation.
If someone who speaks, say, Sudanese, tells you that their name is pronounced in a certain way and you say that it doesn't matter because you speak, say, Finnish, and so you're gonna pronounce it a different way, they're gonna be right, as well as upset, and you're gonna be wrong. Because they actually speak the language from which their name originates and you do not.
The word "car" is not pronounced differently in Xhosa just because they have a different way of pronouncing words, because the word "car" is not Xhosa to begin with.
This is not a difficult concept.

i'm sorry but when it comes to ghostface there is a massive difference between having your power every 30 seconds vs every 16 seconds. no other add-ons can compensate for that massive difference and while I'm all for the spirit of trying out different things, you're both wrong here.
but yeah. the main issue with bloodwebs are the wreaths/flowers. they're useless garbage that you'll never be able to use up at the rate that you gain them. all of them should be retired. offerings in general are already in a bad spot but those ones need to go.
E: otherwise allow players to use multiple offerings at once with a rarity weight system. put all the gameplay affecting offerings in a higher rarity to prevent mass stacking. then add a favorite offering system that auto-uses offerings instead of forcing the player to choose one after every match.

...Unless you rely on marking survivors instead of having no TR. And for those players, the add-ons you think are so great are actually useless, because they don't rely on getting rid of the TR.
See, this is the problem: you refuse to even consider that other playstyles are just as valid as yours.
You have your own playstyle, and that's fine, but don't imply it's the best/only way to play. Can you imagine if all perks and add-ons were geared toward a single playstyle that wasn't your own?
