If you speak French and exclude a community from conversation without seeing a problem then that could be you lacking sympathy or empathy for those that don't

I'm not trying to exclude anyone, I'm pointing out that you can indeed learn a foreign language at an early age. English is incredibly simple compared to the majority of languages, particularly Romance languages. That's partly why it's so widely spoken.

You’re prolly right about the adjustment eventually. I just prefer being a decent team player if I know queues aren’t great.

That's my point: you prefer being efficient over using unusual builds, so that's what you chose to do. MMR isn't to blame for that, it's just that you expect to be able to win even without using meta builds.

BT for teammates so they don’t get slugged immediately off hook. Happened every game. DS for this exact scenario. Iron Will for strider spirits, I went against a crap ton of them. Dead hard for the nurses I kept going against. Add to that constantly staying on gens, even when someone is hooked, only going for the unhook just right before the next stage.

idk that play style is boring ass hell for me even if I know it’s effective. Granted it’s why I usually only play survivor for pebble plays, deception, MoM, breakout ... etc stuff you don’t see commonly. I rarely even use exhaustion perks on normal play these days. I don’t “win” half the time but I have fun and I play for my team to win.

this SBMM, I felt restricted in order to be a good teammate.

Although it can suck at first, if you'd kept using the perks you find fun, you'd eventually reach a "stable" MMR, where you'd be matched up against people who also play casually (or at least people whose best effort matches your casual effort).

I will note, however, that if you changed your loadout, it's because you valued something else more than the loadout. Apparently, it's playing efficiently. Personally, I keep my weird-ass perks (at the moment: Dark Sense, Diversion, Red Herring, Inner Strength) no matter what because I value using a "weird" build over playing efficiently. Win or lose (usually win), I keep my loadout.

For me it’s not about winning it’s about using different perks outside the meta consistently. During this test when playing survivor I ended up having to go for the meta perks over silly builds which is where I have fun on survivor.

Why did you have to go for meta perks, though? What was the inciting event that "made" you do that?

  • Spaghetti code is very difficult to fix, but not completely impossible. On the other hand, rebuilding the game from the ground up to fix its issues and calling it a "sequel", while making everyone pay for it, definitely won't go over too well. If they just halt progress on DbD while working on the "sequel" and give it away for free, they'll essentially have no income for a few years, which is probably not sustainable, while DbD (and its playerbase) tanks due to lack of bug fixes.

Balance issues can be fixed without requiring a "sequel". There's no reason why the same exact devs working on a "sequel" would magically be able to fix all the balance issues when they haven't been able to do so in the first game. I don't understand why you think this would change anything in regards to balance.

I'd rather they fix the base game.

They've had 3 tests now, I have faith in BHVR but at this point I don't have faith MMR will ever work, end of. It's not that hard.

3 tests isn't a lot, and I'd rather they test it multiple times and get it right than have it fall flat on its face.

Weird how it worked as soon as MMR was disabled though.

Yeah or hey better yet, a mix of 400 and under hour players but y'know that's a little too hard for the system it seems.

Hey, it was your suggestion. Don't blame the system that's explicitly being tested and improved upon, own it. I will say, though, it's good that you can recognize problems with your own suggestions.

Weird how it worked as soon as MMR was disabled though.

And now the devs have the data required to improve MMR so it can replace the current (crappy) system. I think it's going to be much better to have balanced trials than rolling the dice every time.

  • No. The devs keep raising her skill floor, so you'll always feel stressed.

  • Wish we could, but the devs want to make sure it works well. Don't worry, it will come, eventually. Then we can finally have fair trials instead of rolling the dice every time.

Was there a huge mega thread of people demanding some form of MMR?

There could have been, if the mods were to merge all the threads complaining about the matchmaking. The fact that there was a megathread on this subject is by virtue of the mods' actions, not as a result of the problem being more serious than matchmaking.

I didn't imply anything, I was just stating something. I was talking about the DBD community as a whole, not implying you were using personal bias.

And yes, I've played the game for a while now too and I know how killer complaints go. First it was Nurse, then Spirit was released, yada yada some Slinger here and there, and then you get to today. Spirit is by far the most problematic killer ever, and has been since her release. The complaints have not stopped. It's not simply "her turn." Surely you can see that is a bad thing right?

I also don't think it's a good idea to dismiss complaints simply because you believe they are some sort of cycle. People complain a lot about Spirit for so many reasons. There's no need to invalidate them. A game should be fun after all, and why should people not make complaints/suggestions to make the game more fun?

Regardless of whether people use the forum or not, people in end game lobbies always complain about a Spirit game. So no, the forum is a not "vocal minority" on this particular topic.

P.S there is no need to reply and talk to me (and I assume you do the same for others) in such a condescending tone.

I didn't imply anything, I was just stating something. I was talking about the DBD community as a whole, not implying you were using personal bias.

No matter who you were referring to, the implication is still the same. You're literally saying that if people were to put personal biases aside, they'd agree with your opinion. The implication is that people only disagree with you due to personal biases.

The complaints never stop. That's my point. Nurse has been nerfed a few times now, yet the complaints didn't stop. Hillbilly has been nerfed, but the complaints didn't stop. Repeat for every killer that's been nerfed.

I also don't think it's a good idea to dismiss complaints simply because you believe they are some sort of cycle.

You dismiss people disagreeing with you as simply being biased. I dismiss them because every conversation about Spirit has been had. No matter how many times counterplay is brought up, people dismiss it. Same thing goes for every other killer and perk.

A game should be fun after all, and why should people not make complaints/suggestions to make the game more fun?

Fun for whom, though? Do you think it's fun for killers to be nerfed because a vocal minority on the forum keeps complaining? I don't think it's fun for them, at all. So, whose fun are you prioritizing, exactly?

Regardless of whether people use the forum or not, people in end game lobbies always complain about a Spirit game. So no, the forum is a not "vocal minority" on this particular topic.

Still a minority. There's hundreds of thousands of players. Your half dozen end-game chats are not statistically significant. Besides, people will say anything in the chat.

P.S there is no need to reply and talk to me (and I assume you do the same for others) in such a condescending tone.

No condescension here. A little irritation, but no condescension.

  • @EvilJoshy said:

The main arguement seems to be "i cant see where shes going so its just a guessing game"

Thats the same with nurse. Your blocking los and trying to guess where she will blink.

Which is literally the point of breaking LOS, as well as the Spirit's power. It's like complaining that the Hillbilly has a chainsaw that can instadown you, or that the Trapper has traps that can keep you in place. That's literally the point.

  • @calem said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262108#Comment_2262108

What? My point was that at even skill levels, regardless of rank, Spirit is very likely to do well. Because she's an easy killer with next to no counterplay. Hence why she's so hated and why she's competitively viable. I don't think it's fair to counter every single argument you disagree with by saying "Ok prove it I need stats". If we put our personal biases aside for a second, I think we can all agree that Spirit is problematic, and thus her kit should be looked at and re-evaluated. No killer should be the cause of this much uproar, hate and disagreement.

If we put our personal biases aside for a second, I think we can all agree that Spirit is problematic, and thus her kit should be looked at and re-evaluated.

Implying I'm only disagreeing with you because of my personal bias. Classic.

No killer should be the cause of this much uproar, hate and disagreement.

I've been here long enough to know that complaints about killers are cyclical. Complaints surge about one specific killer, they get nerfed, then complaints move on to the next killer. This time it's Spirit. Next it'll be Deathslinger or Nurse (for the umpteenth time). Doesn't matter how many times the killer is actually nerfed, they're inevitably put on the list again. The only way it ends is if killers get removed altogether, or are made so weak that you can 1v1 them.

For the record, the forum is a tiny subsection of the playerbase. Do not confuse a vocal minority for what the majority of the players want.

  • You're the one who asked, though. I was trying to answer your question.

Honestly I think this is besides the point. The thread was made with the intent of discussing the suggestion - not picking apart the connotations of "nerf" and "rework".

    [shrug]

I was just explaining why people might have a problem with calling what is clearly a nerf a "rework".

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262143#Comment_2262143

Nothing about this thread comes off as disingenuous to me, OP made it very clear what they were asking for. Whether it is labelled as a "rework" or "nerf" is irrelevant in this case because the suggestion is there for everyone to read and understand what it would mean for her power level. 🤔

OP outright says that their suggestion isn't to weaken her (third paragraph, first sentence), which is just blatantly false. It's a nerf and should be called as such.

  • Too much holding M1 as a consequence of their power.

EDIT: Obviously, you shouldn't get hate messages for playing any character. That's just people being dicks.

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262133#Comment_2262133

Huh? What is this even supposed to mean.

Does it matter whether we label it a "rework" or a "nerf"? Sounds like semantics to me...

It matters because many people like to pretend that they're asking for a "rework" (implying the character/perk/item/whatever should remain at the same level of power) when they're really asking for a nerf (meaning it should be made weaker). It's disingenuous. Honest communication is the first step in actually having a conversation. If one side starts out by trying to disguise what they actually want, you can't have a conversation.

Then please explain the bugfix which will come out. It even says it fixes an issue where the Terror Radius melody doesn't play at the appropriate time as the heartbeat radius.

Also, the apparent lullaby sounds exactly as the distant Terror Radius, which plays between 32 and 24 metres or in Tricksters place should play between 24 and 16 metres.

I can't explain it. What I can tell you is that he has a ring around him that behaves exactly like a lullaby.

  • @DanielPaint said:

I'm a rank 12 and got mixed matches. I had a few Grey ranks but a lot of purple or red rank groups. But most of the players had a full tier 3 perk build with the usual stuff like dead hard, ds, iron will and stuff.

I'd need to see the actual trials. Red rank survivors tend to give up at the first sign of trouble, and having lower-ranked survivors can definitely make it more difficult.

    @calem said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262082#Comment_2262082

I don't think that's relevant information though. For how easy Spirit is, it's not hard to get consistent 4k's at any ranks. You would get a 4k with Trickster at rank 20 probably because you're skill level is of a rank 1. It doesn't really matter what rank this guy is, he's just acknowledging that Spirit is an easy character to do really well with, regardless of rank.

To prove that, you'd probably need many trials with her from people who know nothing about what it's like to play killer.

  • @ALostPuppy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262082#Comment_2262082

Rank doesn't matter with this new matchmaking system, the ranks they all have are pointless to know now

OP already said they weren't playing during the MMR test.

  • @DanielPaint said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2262075#Comment_2262075

Nope, I'm not plying while the mmr is still on. The last week around until the mmr started

So what was your rank, the survivors' ranks, how did the trial go, and so on? It's easy to say "4k" without giving any details. I can go on right now and 4k with Trickster using only M1 attacks because I haven't played killer in so long, I'm rank 20.

  • @MrDardon said:

It's just a bugged Terror Radius and not a lullaby.

In the new patch notes it also says that it got fixed. That his Terror Radius doesn't go beyond his heartbeat radius anymore.

I don't know where the wiki got that lullaby from.

The distant TR is heard between 32-24 metres. From 24 to 16 metres you hear the "approach" part. As soon as you hear heartbeat the second part of his TR music plays.

The wiki got the "lullaby" from the fact that even when he's Undetectable, that ring still plays. That's a lullaby. It's definitely bugged, because it's in a ring*, but that's how it works. If it behaves exactly like a lullaby, then it's a lullaby.

*The Huntress' lullaby was temporarily a ring (which was a bug), but no other lullabies since have worked like that, which is why I think it's bugged.

  • I don't know if the community is ready for the responsibility of a shirtless Felix. I think I should probably test it out first, see what happens.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

@Angelicus23 24-32 Lullaby does not exist. It is 32 or 24. The game says its 24 but your video states 32. Lullaby not modified by undetectable/oblivious nor TR perks. wiki going need to update it after they fix it in nemesis 5.0.0 patch on 15th next Tuesday. its really buggy

I'm the one who helped test the existence of the lullaby for the wiki. The lullaby is bugged*, but it's there, in a ring around the Trickster, starting at 32 meters and ending at 24 meters. I heard it with my own ears.

Easy. Implement it for the group and rumor is we already have it implemented. How else? LMAO.

    It's not ######### hard it's just mathematics. A + B + C + D / 4 = X.

So, in your case, your friend should be going up against people with 222 hours, slightly under three times his play time, and you should also go up against those very same people, who have 2/3 of your play time. Does that seem balanced to you?

  • @VforValens said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2259976#Comment_2259976

So if no MMR system can balance a group of 2-4 players playing together we shouldn't be implementing MMR period. The majority of survivors that play this game are in SWF's, period. Even if I were playing solo right now with the amount of ######### new players I've gotten on the Survivor side vs Rank 1 and 2 Killers this STILL wouldn't be balanced in any form. This is my MMR, period with or without a SWF.

It's a fundamentally flawed system to use in an asymmetric game that is all about playing with friends on the Survivor side. So you know your own argument doesn't hold water.

So if no MMR system can balance a group of 2-4 players playing together we shouldn't be implementing MMR period.

No, I was going to ask how any matchmaker is supposed to find a balanced match for two people playing together, one of whom has 4x the playtime of the other. It's always going to be unbalanced, no matter what.

Emphasis on the different play times.

  • No, I'm saying using your situation to complain about DbD's MMR doesn't hold water because no MMR can balance that. It's like saying "If Teslas are so great, how come I can't drive one to the Moon?" when you know perfectly well that no car can do that.

  • @VforValens said:

Naturally but are you trying to say I should be going against people with 1,5k hours? Lmao I'm nowhere near that good of a surv I've never even hit Rank 1 and play it only 20% of the time.

Every match today has been a 4K and clearly the killer is far and above everyone in the survivor lobby. A SWF of 2 should never be powerful enough to pip you up to people with over 1k hours when you yourself have 4 times fewer hours and are nowhere near as good.

No, I was going to ask how any matchmaker is supposed to find a balanced match for two people playing together, one of whom has 4x the playtime of the other. It's always going to be unbalanced, no matter what.

I wouldnt call it growth. Releasing a licensed character to attract more players, only to have them leave when they see how painful the new player experience is. We can see how many people are playing but we cant tell how many are dedicated players or newbies that bail when the hype wears off.

I would call it growth because that's what it is. We can literally see that the number of average players has increased overall.

  • @VforValens said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2257800#Comment_2257800

It demonstrably does not. A bud, and I at 84 hours ,and 350 hours respectively are getting matched with both survs, and killers with 1,5k+ hours. All of my killers today have been Rank 1 whilst not all of the Survs we've paired with have.

So, yeah. MMR is still in the shitter like it was in January when they first tested it. It's not going to work as it should imo simply because it's an asymmetric game that revolves around not only the map you play on but the killer you bring, or face against.

Are you playing SWF with your friend?

  • @EvilJoshy said:

I know what you're saying. I'm saying that's my analysis based on points. The fact that there's a kill kinda throws your argument out of the water, though, because it gives us a frame of reference for how long the trial lasted before and after the first kill.

I mean, English is the de facto international language. Over a billion people speak English. If you write in French, you're only going to get replies from people who also speak French, who number in the hundreds of millions.

That's just the way of the world and is why I think everyone should learn English. It's a very basic language and really opens up the world to you, especially when you take into account the fact that most information online is written in English.
