  • Simple, the survivors just shouldn't have got hooked. Should have looped the killer for 5 gens and escape through the gates. Yep, that's what the game expects you to do.

  • @Brokenbones said:

Have you seen the Wesker achievement yet?

The one that requires you slamming a survivor into another one 10 times?

Sheesh, who thought that was a good idea for an achievement

Just slam unhooking survivors into the unhooked survivor. I got it first day. I know watching a survivor unhook is illegal but rules are meant to broken.

  • @TheGentlemen said:

It's good on M1 killers, don't nerf it cause if you do then Sadako will be utterly unplayable.

    just buff sadako.

This is just like what happened with merciless storm pain res and dms. Instead of fixing the problem with merciless storm, they buff pain resonance, creating a new problem with dms, so they nerf dms. Same thing happened with mettle of man so they reverted it.

  • It should lose stacks if the obsession takes damage. And should deactivate if the obsession is killed by any means to make it more thematically accurate.

I think it's way too overpowered on demogorgon and wesker because they have easy to land special attacks. As demogorgon many players just win by using that perk. Demo should only win against good survivors if he uses his portals in a smart way.

  • the amount of times i see killers walk away from a hooked survivor that's about to hit 2nd stage

  • Yep typically since Chains of hate BHVR does 2 hotfixes after each major patch. They don't do anymore than that so it's likely the survivor facial bugs are going to be in the game for 4 weeks or more.

Honestly laughable considering this tweet they posted yesterday.

Dead by Daylight on Twitter: "Our Senior Character Artist, Sophie-Amelie, sat down to talk about her favorite part of bringing characters to life in Dead by Daylight. Can you guess what it is? https://t.co/HgYHRLvq8X" / Twitter

  • Yes, i prefer old ruin and undying.

As survivor i really enjoyed using small game to hunt the totems down and delete 2 of the killers perks. Felt great.

As killer i like using it on high mobility killers like wraith and legion.

The only problem that the combo really had was it's combination with Tinkerer, but they nerfed tinkerer to be one use per gen so the nerf to ruin was too much.

it's not an insult you're just not experienced enough to understand that all the changes (minus sc and ds) were great for the game

I got 2k hrs in this game. Got iri 1 on both roles and nearly have all achievements.

Game is just less fun, dead hard is still overusued and people use OTR instead of DS.

Killers perk variety is worse. Before it was a mix of information and slowdown and hex perks but now it's just pain resonance and gen kick perks and nothing else.

Killer buffs do not help against unwinnable situations against pre-drop comp teams but they make the experience against solo queue especially worse.

Explain to me how this game is any better?

  • I get it. You have no constructive response so you are just resorting to insults 😛

  • Yes. Already finished the rift and im not really getting satisfaction out of just playing anymore so im taking a break until the next tome/halloween event. Both roles are less fun to me since 6.1.0. Survivor there's no DS to stop you from getting tunnelled and as killer you have no idea if the players that are using dead hard are just good or hacking. I did enjoy wesker though but i don't have much to do as him so i'll just play him more in the halloween event.

    • Mori rework - should be coming as far as we know
    • Twins changes it's been 8 months since we know they were planned.
    • Sadako Buffs
    • Artist Nerfs
    • Dredge Buffs (maybe)
    • Tombstone Piece and Judith's tombstone changes since moris are also being changed. Potentially this is extended to a full update for myers.
    • The Nightmare update. He's been getting a lot of bug fixes over the past year so maybe he is going to be looked at.
    • Archives updates - being able to select a challenge per role. It's time for this i think.
    • More perk changes to underused perks like buckle up and hangman's trick
  • Matchmaking incentives are different depending on MMR. However there are people that have opened the game on seperate fresh accounts but the incentives are still different. So it's a bit strange

Not at all! But this is probably one of the most misquoted things, so it's worth talking about again. Escapes are not skill, but they are a proxy to skill - that is to say that skilled plays tend to improve your chances of escape.

This does not mean that the game thinks you're a bad player if you have a really good match but die in the end. It also doesn't mean that you're a good player if you hide all match and sneak out the exit gates after your teammates carry you. No matchmaking system in any game is able to accurately estimate your skill from a single match. Matchmaking systems work over the course of many matches to continually refine your rating. If you're lower than you should be, you'll outclass your opponent(s) and your odds of winning will be higher, meaning you'll gradually climb over the course of several matches.

To give an example, you lose two matches and then win two. You'll end up more or less around the same point that you started. The game doesn't think you suck just because you lost a couple matches, it's looking at the bigger picture and always trying to make sure you end up in the right spot.

The reason why matchmaking systems use a single metric (like kills / escapes) to estimate skill is because adding a ton of variables into the mix has huge consequences. Say you count two hooks as a 'win' for the Killer- does that mean that the Survivor who escaped also won? If so, you have a situation where both parties can win, raising both of their ratings. This might not sound like an issue yet, but it has just created a scenario where on average you're more likely to gain rating than lose it, meaning people are on average always climbing higher. This completely breaks the entire matchmaking system.

But even so, adding in a bunch of other variables doesn't necessarily indicate skill either: If a Killer gets two hooks, that doesn't automatically mean they played super well. The matchmaker can't tell if you got those hooks through some tough chases or if you just tunneled someone off the hook and downed them before they could get to a pallet or window. Adding chase lengths into the mix is yet another variable and yet again doesn't reflect skill (you might have downed someone really quickly because of a skilled play, but they might also be in a very safe part of the map where that's not possible). Already, you can see the rabbit hole this is turning into. There's far too many factors to look at a single match and say, "This person is amazing, strap a rocket to them and send them to the moon!"

By using a single metric like kills & escapes, that ensures that one person always wins and one person loses (or they draw). In order to keep climbing, you'll need other people with a similar rating, otherwise the gains you get from each match gradually diminish until you stop climbing.

But all that said, the matchmaker's job is purely to stick you in a place where you'll win about half the time, not to judge you and make you feel bad about yourself. Whether that's because you're a legend who needs to go against other legends, or because you're crouching in a corner because you know you'll only last 5 seconds in a chase. It's only trying to find a spot where your strategy, regardless of how skilled it is, works about half the time.

To get back to the original question: Yes, we do have some improvements in the works, including team-based ratings (so dying heroically to save your team doesn't count as a loss). I look forward to sharing more info about it and the other changes when they're a little closer to release.

Thanks for clearing it up. I believe it's a common belief in the community from how it was presented in the September q&a stream last year. They did mention this but i feel like it was overshadowed by how it was said. They made it seem like players that don't escape aren't skilled. I'm glad to see that this is how it is truly viewed from the devs.

I would try come up with a sarcastic reply but it's true and that hurts my soul

I know i'm usually not one to exaggerate but it really is true that this is what they think. They said that everything that happens in a match is the middle man and that the end result is what it's important... it's more or less true.

I'm literally saying that he would move at normal speed while charging his bound if he was changed to 110. Every post says that

    I misunderstood, my bad.

I personally wouldn't like this version of wesker though because it'd just be a trickster with different properties. Or a worse huntress.

A Wesker that moves at normal speed while charging his bound attack is better at loops than you're thinking.

And Wesker definitely is a ranged Killer he just launches himself instead of a projectile like Nurse.

He does not move at normal speed while charging his bound, he moves slower than survivors.

Yes, but nurse can go through walls, her power is usable at loops. Wesker's power is not usable at most loops, just try it.

    • The perk usage on the site is based on opponent perks, not the perks of the uploaders. So the perk usage stats are actually pretty reliable. Also there’s basically zero reason to think people are intentionally loading the same match multiple times, and the system doesn’t allow a match with the same file name to be uploaded twice so you’d have to specifically rename the file to do it.
    • Pain Resonance is the top used perk at 25%. You’re probably seeing it more than some other perks but not every game.
    • Some players didn’t benefit as much from the bloodweb changes but the people that did benefit (like me) got a MASSIVE boost. I went from having about 30-40 perks per character to having every single teachable on every character in one fell swoop. And also was able to get Wesker’s teachables on every character in about 1 million points versus almost twice that amount.

Keep in mind the numbers you are believing in are an average. At high level lobbies pain resonance is likely used all the time. Not saying i am in high level lobbies but i am saying that this number does not mean you will see pain resonance 25% of the time, it's an average.

Killer queue does not take minutes. Are you playing on like Antartica servers with the researchers there?

No, im in the UK. I've seen many people say the same thing so i am not a minority.

  • I'm sure no developer actually things Escaping shows singular player skill

you are mistaken. This is exactly what they think.

  • It's not necessary but it encourages people to spend their bloodpoints which i think is a good thing.

  • @dugman said:

    • Dead Hard is still popular but it’s also used literally half as often as it used to be (about 20-22% instead of 40-50% usage)
    • Of the top 5 most used perks 3 are not slowdown (BBQ and Chili, Lethal Pursuer, and Save the Best for Last)
    • Matches need 4 survivors each to 1 killer so I’m not at all surprised the system is usually looking for more survivors. If half the people in the game for example were queuing for survivor and half for killer then the system would want 60% of killers to switch sides to bring the two sides in the target 4-1 ratio.
    • You forgot that everything costs 1/3 less on the bloodwebs, I’m pretty sure nobody complains about that. Also they are making all the non-licensed skins buyable with shards.

I personally think the game is fine. There are some minor things I’d change if it were up to me but it’s definitely in better shape than when I started 3 years ago.

I don't like using data from that website. It's abusable. You can report the same match multiple times. Likely only engaged and pc players use that website because it's easier to do on PC. So yeah i don't like to use that data.

Yesterday i played 6 matches 3 as oni and 3 as plague. Doing their adepts. in my plague matches 8/12 survivors were using dead hard and as oni there was 6/12 dead hards.

As survivor i am seeing pain resonance what feels like every game.

Idc about the data, im not enjoying the game with how strong and overused these perks are.

At best the perk variety went from horrendus to very bad.

About the grind reduction. The grind reduction only benefits people that play every character. If you play one survivor and a few killers the old system was better.

Nice that you think the game is fine but to me at least the game feels very trashy right now.

  • I think dead hard should be reverted, remove the i-frames and make it so that you slowdown slightly after using it meaning you can't running vault a window which gives the killer the opportunity to hit them if they are looping a window. You could still use it the same way to vault a pallet but i think that's okay because you can break pallets and dissolution exists.

  • How is it better?

    • Nerfed DS - Tunnelling is rampant
    • The solution to camping is locked behind a paywall and it's not even very good unless you stack it.
    • Dead Hard is still the most used survivor perk and at higher levels it's stronger
    • Killer perk variety is still stacking gen slowdown.
    • Nurse and Blight are still at the top and only got better due to general killer buffs.
    • Role ratio is very unbalanced. Survivor practically has a permanent 100% bp bonus and instant queues whilst killer queues take minutes.

The only changes i like are the removal of bp bonuses from bbq and wglf, and the 2.5% gen damage. Everything else i wish didn't happen.

  • With no perks myers is definitely better because of his stealth. Pig's stealth is basically unusuable without information perks, and her traps will not help you very much if 1 or more gens pop before you can get your first trap.

With perks and add-ons it's pig. With corrupt and extra slowdown and chase perks, her traps with crate of gears and and extra trap she becomes very oppressive, and this aspect is actually likely to get nerfed.

This is ignoring myers tombstone piece add-on however. With that add-on he is the best killer in the game.

Excuse me? i'm sorry here, but you came to me, I posted this for discussion to debate about opinions, you can't retcon everything up to this point, you came here, you disagreed, and I discussed it with you on a discussion form, you don't get to retcon your actions, just like you don't get to retcon your skin purchases, you have a big issue with trying to change something you did previously....

You're on a discussion form, that's on you, you don't get to pull the "different opinion" card when you made the choice to be here. you can do that on twitter, but not here.

You lost me at "you can't retcon everything up to this point".

You're making no sense so im just gonna leave this discussion.

  • Not a dumb rant. It's a good criticism. So many perks are way too situational to consider bringing to a trial. It's what makes so many perks bad.

I'm a customer, I think it's pretty cool, I can get skins for free, literally what is there not to like, you're tunnel-visioned

Okay, so you have a different opinion. No need to be disrespectful to others don't share the same one.

It's not being tunnel visioned either. It's being aware of insidious behaviour. haha... insidious bhvr

isn't the answer simple like... obviously money yeah, but aren't you glad it isn't that way now???? why do you keep yourself so cooped up in the past and not realize that you are SERIOUSLY complaining about BHVR giving you a free discount, and ungating the pay wall, and you're upset about that :|

again tho, you're decision, you put in your card info, you didn't have to, even tho it was gated off, you still chose to do that, just because it's possible now doesn't mean you still didn't make that choice to pay for it and get it, you didn't need it you wanted it and you bought it, good for you now you have it, this isn't the IRS they don't have to compensate you, its a privately owned business

Nobody is saying they have to do anything.

Just saying it's not cool of BHVR to do that to past customers.

  • @Pumpkinbros said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3186923#Comment_3186923

Well to point out it'll be with a 4 week Delay which means these skins are still gonna be exclusive, so either way it would've been like this if they had done it before, but the point still stands, bhvr didn't hold you at gunpoint to purchase a single skin, you did so out of your own will. you don't need it to be better at the game, it doesn't help you, you just wanted it. If I got Cyberpunk for 10$ because of a sale, does that means CD project red now owes every other player that bought it at full price 40$???

No that doesn't make them exclusive.

And no that's different. You still had to pay for the game.

These things were premium only and out of the blue for no reason they decided to make them available for free as well.

The problem is, why these outfits weren't shards to begin with?

  • I don't think you're understanding

Auric Cell exclusive skins are going to be made non-exclusive. So people that wanted it and would have payed shards for them had to buy them with auric cells. Now BHVR is offering the option so it's understandable that people feel disappointed, because why didn't they do that before?

  • it's probs not getting addressed. it didn't with artist.

  • Yes, survivor second chance perks shouldn't exist but neither should slowdowns. I think this game has dug itself a hole too deep to come out of.

  • Boons need to be reworked. CoH is the only one that's used and it's overpowered. The other three are barely used.

  • No

They just said they don't have an ETA on when we can expect it. So in other words, postponed until further notice.

  • Next week. It will be 3 weeks since the chapter launch next week which means there could be a ptb, lasting 3 weeks so the mid chapter releases 6 weeks after chapter launch like usual.

  • That add-on should be buffed. If you get an outdoor map with that add-on the survivors can loop and bully you so much.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3186061#Comment_3186061

It's pretty simple. It is unintended, but because the perk was still not OP they just left it in.

When they added wiretap to the game, it likely used the same logic that blast mine uses to be applied to a generator. They found that giving wiretap back was super OP (it would be) so they fixed it, but this also "fixed it" for blast mine. So they unintentionally nerfed/fixed the bug with blast mine.

    That makes sense.

  • Yes.

The common mindset that is encouraged among players is self-destructive.

New survivors are often judged based on their appearances. This is hurtful to some people, because survivors are designed to be realistic.

Asymmetry causes there to be a lack of empathy. And this causes controversial opinions which forms rivalries in the community.

The game gives you the power to make someone's gameplay extremely uninteractive and unpleasant. There will be of course people that want to do that.

This game can be miserable to play and that makes people miserable, so they treat other people badly. Toxic game, toxic community.

  • They didn't intend to nerf as they said in the patch notes the previous change was a fix, it was never intended to be returned to you if the killer doesn't activate it.

I just find it unbelievable though how the perk was not working as intended for over a year.

  • Feng Min. I like the colours and i think her team name being inspired by characters from Naughty Bear is really cool.

  • I love DBD. I just get sad when i feel like the devs aren't respecting the players.

  • I use Prove Thyself because a lot of people don't seem to understand that working on gens together is less efficient overall. Sometimes team mates will even follow you. So prove thyself at least makes it so you will always be efficient.

  • @Bot_Salvo88 said:

Last time I looked at the achievements was a long time ago. Was there one where as survivor you had to do a full gen and escape from the exit when you're the last survivor remaining? Maybe I'm wrong and I can't remember.

Yes it's called Left for Dead

    image.png

Extremely difficult achievement, the stars have to align for you to be able to do it.

  • Because a 5 minute penalty is much more tolerable than a hyper competitive blight with the best possible loadout.

  • Personally, i think they should have kept the 35 second duration and the repair speed buff and then buff it to 16%. The issue wasn't that the duration was too short it was that the speed was too insignificant.

  • It isn't like since YOU can see them, the killer can't.

The killer can see your scratch marks by default.

  • Cheryl has interesting perks. Repressed Alliance allows you to block the killer from hitting the gen and it shows your team mates the aura of the gen that you blocked. Soul Guard is good with unbreakable and allows you to recover if there is a hex. And blood pact is a pretty decent information perk that gives you a nice speed boost.

    Hmmm

I don't think you should dictate your behavior based on other people's bad behavior. If you do, it means that person is "in charge" and I don't think people see that. If we negatively change our behavior because of others, then that means those people are dictating us. They're dictating that we have to match their behavior, reflect their bad behavior. I just don't see it that way. They act badly? That's their issue to work on--or not. But you don't have to follow suit.

It's not really bad behaviour though. It's typical, expected behaviour. Majority rules and all that.

Plus this game is fun when it's challenging. When the killer is being silly it isn't really that fun. So im fine with playing to win every game.

  • Clearly the solution to this is to add skill checks to mending because im getting that people are fine with generators.
