Does anyone find it difficult to play as Oni in general? Is there a steep learning curve?
I would definetely say that he has quite a difficult learning curve.Knowing when and how to use his power will take some time to master, but once you've mastered him playing with oni is relatively easy (There is pretty much no difference in playing Oni on PC or console).

Legion- Killer that easily injures people, but struggles at downing injured Survivors.
Spirit- Killer that struggles to injure people, but is amazing at downing injured Survivors.
At high ranks, Survivors usually don't care that much about being injured because of perks like Iron Will, Resilience and Dead Hard. They usually only heal eachother after they've finished a generator or if they have a self-heal perk or med-kit. Also, Survivors are just accustomed to giving Killers free first hits because of dead zones or committing to a generators and they tend to count on using the speed boost to get somewhere safer to loop.
That's why Spirit is good and Legion is mediocre. But they're very similar ideas. A power that gives you mobility to help you get one easy hit and pretty much leaves the other hit up to traditional M1 gameplay.
I really wouldn't say that a good spirit struggles at getting that first hit.Even healthy survivors make sounds which the spirit can take advantage of.

It still boggles my mind to this day that people think legion is weak. The legion power is the most free hit in the game. All it takes is 1-2 chase perks on him/her and you are an M1 monster who instantly exposes anyone you see.

i'd put this up there as one of the best builds you can run in the entire game. You could swap out BBQ with something else.
Compared to all the other powers in the game legion really has one of the weakest.Only the right perks and addons make him decent.

Both as killer and as survivor. Personally if I'm with them, I'll just inform them of which character I'm playing and that's it. If I'm against them I'll go to their stream, greed and wish gl and then immediately leave in order to have a fair match.
How about you guys? Please let me know down below.
I always try to play as good and fair as possible.

Should still be usable even if the medkit has zero charges.
You lose these add-ons anyway after a trial without an expensive ward, plus they still destroy the medkit on use; it is ridiculous you cannot use the item now if a medkit has no charges left.
You couldn't use a medkit without charges before the changes aswell, because then your medkit was completely gone.
If you want to use your styptic agent and anti hemorrragic syringe then you have to pay attention to not fully use your medkit.

I can play Legion, Pig, Freddy, Spirit and Ghost Face at Rank 1. Most of the others I can't really do anything with or I'm well below the skill level to be remotely threatening with them.
What Killers do you specialize in?
For me it's Oni,Spirit,Deathslinger,Huntress,Trapper,Wraith,Myers,Freddy,Doctor and Leatherface

My worst killer is Nurse.Mostly because of her bugs and the horrible framerate on console

Let's start pretending that most randoms can't last more than 30 seconds in a chase even with plenty loops anyway ๐

Bt guarantees deliverance pretty much. Ds lasts as long as deliverances broken. Bt also is always helpful. And unbreakable incase the killer slugs (debatable whether to replace unbreakable with soulguard)
Killer:Dead rabbit Michael with M and A,Enduring,Spirit fury, and corrupt intervention. The close to no tr. Corrupt prevents from the first gens popping. Survivors cant rely on pallets. (Also vanities mirror is helpful for this build since i can cut off survivors by tapping it).
Also trying to avoid the obvious builds like iri head huntress but up to you guys if its your best build more power to you.
Survivor: Sprint Burst,Decisive Strike,Unbreakable and Iron Will
Killer(Oni):BBQ,Monitor&Abuse,Infectious Fright and either Pop goes the Weasel or Corrupt Intervention + the Splintered Hull (more blood orbs) and the Scalped Topknot (faster demon dash activation) addons
Killer(Deathslinger):BBQ,Monitor&Abuse,Nurses Calling and Pop goes the Weasel + the green reload addon and the reduced missed shot cooldown addon

I think the devs were trying to do something nice and put out a positive announcement. It doesn't need to be a big deal if you don't make it one.
Yeah,it seems like they aren't doing this kind of announcement as a means of making more money but rather to show a bit of support to an important cause.
At the end we will get a new character that will probably just have a few hints here and there about his/hers orientation and that's it.

It just feels a bit dishonest on their part.
Don't you think that making this kind of announcement puts more focus on orientation than it needs to?

The devs like to make announcements about stuff they add to the game, I don't know what to tell you. Were you this upset about other announcements of stuff they were adding?
No,but can't they do it more or less the same way they did with clown?
The devs said they would never add a clown to the game and then they surprised us with the clown. They didn't need to put up a tweet to announce that they will add a clown to the game. They just did it.

No they didn't.They just mentioned it in her backstory and that's it.
The tweet was unnecassary.Just put that character in the game, mention his/her orientation in their lore or cosmetics and let the community find it out on their own.And maybe then put out a tweet like they did now.

I can understand why people are worried. A good majority of the time it's only done for marketing or pandering in the first place.
Personally I don't care. I'm a gay white guy who mains Claudette. Sex, orientation and race means nothing to me.
As long as they don't pull a J.K. Rowling's "Dumbledore was in a gay relationship" out of nowhere card with original characters or do anything offensive, I couldn't care less. I'll probably never move off of Claudette because I don't care about the issue at all and honestly I don't know why they announced the whole thing in the first place.
They should have just made a character that has a different orientation naturally wherever it fit and that just be that. It doesn't need to be announced. If you want to make a strong character of a specific gender, or race, or orientation -- make their personality and backstory first, then choose the gender, race and orientation last, because these things do not make an individual. Our experiences in life, the mistakes we make and learn from, and environment we live in, are all that shape us as an individual.
At least that's how I write my characters, even if their sexual orientation is never even mentioned at all in the stories I write (granted most of them are hetero anyway), because sometimes it just doesn't matter or have a place and I sure don't want to just shoe horn it in without purpose.
Of course.
Making it a big announcement like that was a bad move in my opinion.
Now that character will just feel like he/she is LGBTQ for the sake of being LGBTQ.They should have been subtle about it.That's it

I mean, yes.Doing this kind of announcement seemed like a bad move on their part, honestly.
It feels like the next character is gonna be LGBTQ just for the sake of being LGBTQ.Being subtle about it in the backstory or cosmetics for example would seem like a better move.

Why would adding canon sexualities ruin your ability to ship certain characters?
People do that all the time although they know their favorite characters orientation.

So will the developers literally out every characters' sexuality? Or will the whole situation be over with "his/her boyfriend/girlfriend" mentions in the archives? I mean, if it's the second one, they kinda made quite a big announcement for that topic, it's not that much of a big deal (but it's a really good advertisement, I guess). The reason the post looks so odd is because the game's lore never had any kind of noticeable romantic plot (except for Julie and Frank but it is the only love story in the game).
I can read the post as "we are no longer afraid to mention gay relationships". Sooo, yeah...
I really don't like that they make an announcement for this.Sounds like they are gonna put a gay/lesbian character in the game for the sake of being gay/lesbian.They should have made it more subtle by giving hints in the backstory or maybe some cosmetics.

So, to spruce things up a bit, how about adding these functions and alterations:
- a gen that is regressing via damage from a killers break guarantees a difficult skill-check appear when first reinteracted with by a survivor.
In addition to this, Overcharge gets tweaked to make it this:
- any generator damaged by you causes the subsequent survivor that initially reinteracts with the gen to recieve 2/3/4 skill checks of Tremendous difficulty. The generator gains no repair progression while Overcharge is in effect. Each missed skill-check has a 3% regression penalty. However, each successful skill-check regains the progress lost from the most recenly missed skill-check. (Ie you miss the first three, lose 9% progression, but succeeding the final one gains back 3% progress, so only 6% regression is experienced. Only 2 generators can be affected by Overcharge at any one time. *Effects of reduced or removed skill-checks are not affected by Overcharge (Unnerving doesn't combo with it as well as Spine Chill not reducing it too).*
Also, reverse skill-checks are made to be common place for every killer. With that change, Doc's power has this tweak:
- while in Madness 1, a survivor receives reverse skill-checks slightly more frequent. (As it is already)
- while in Madness 2, a survivor will always be guaranteed to receive reverse skill-checks.
Thoughts on these changes?
This game is already really beginner unfriendly. That would make it even worse.

Only if you can't win chases and the killer decides to use it on you after your first hook. Also, by that logic, Self-Care gives you infinite health states.
I have yet to see a killer that doesn't use his mori the moment he is able to.

So does Devour Hope and Rancor, which people generally accept as fine. Making the req 4 hooks is quite literally one less than DH, except not removable, without the instadown at 3. Really not that much different at that point.
Rancor is only useable at the end of the game and the obsession has ample time to hide before the last gen gets done. You usually get to mori only one person too.
DH can be removed before it even gets useful and you don't get any stacks when survivors save immediatly.
Both perks have clear counterplay.
Your idea would lead to a situation in which all survivors would just hide all game after the forth hook. Not fun for either side

I like the idea that there needs to be four hooks in a game to use an ebony better than that idea- otherwise you wind up with one person blending the whole game which hurts the experience of all other players. "I'm the only one not hooked, so if they want an ebony I just need to hide!" As opposed to "oh crap, they only need one more hook!" ...ebony is supposed to be strong, and I think making the counter "let your team die because you're the last one to be hooked" isn't too far off from what we have currently, which is "hope you find the hatch". At least the four hooks suggestion encourages team play.
That might be true, but changing the requirement to only 4 hooks can lead to situations in which a survivor gets moried without being hooked once before.

Except there aren't smaller hitboxes.
There hasn't been a smaller hitbox in months, so your post is completely invalid.
I've been getting hit from 3-6 feet away from my actual body, how is that fair? How is that skill?
@KRG said:
Title says it all. Im dying 3 meters behind the wall when she throws at me.
Here's an explanation from Peanits about huntress hatchet hitboxes:
That second one was definitely in range. The window does not make you safe.
Regarding hatchet hitboxes: They were changed to not be spherical a while back, but the change needed to be reverted (as others have mentioned in the thread). I'll have to bust out my amazing drawing skills. This is what the hitboxes look like:
The survivor has a "capsule" shaped box around them. This determines where they can run and whether or not the killer can hit them. This hitbox does not change, the only exception is that it's a little shorter when you crouch. If it did change, it would cause all sorts of issues in a chase. You would be bumping into stuff constantly.
The hatchets, on the right, have a spherical hitbox.
Why?
When a survivor is injured, they're slouched over as they run. In the example above, you can see what that's important. The hitbox of the hatchet overlaps with the hitbox of the survivor, so the hatchet hits.
Now if you were to make it more closely match the size of the hatchet, you'd end up with this:
In spite of the hatchet going right through the survivor (visually), it does not touch the survivor's hitbox, and so the hatchet would miss. We have tried this change and the past, but it was reverted because it caused a lot of issues like this.
To go back to the first hit, this is the scenario that played out:
This is what the killer sees. It looks a little weird because of the survivor's animation, but the hitboxes overlapped. But then you need to factor in latency:
This is what the survivor sees (with what the killer sees faded out). Latency sucks, you can't really get rid of it. It's a fact of life with online games. There's always going to be a slight discrepancy in online games. Since the hit is currently handled on the killer's end, even 100 ping can make a difference. (Survivor running at 4m/s x 0.1 = 40cm difference between what the killer sees and what the survivor sees.)
The ultra short version: Hatchet hitboxes can't change unless the survivor hitboxes are completely reworked, but latency is also in play.

I just want to point out they did nerf ivory/ebony mori. Used to be they didn't require a hook at all, just down and murder.
Anyway, commenting on the OP's topic, any further nerf to moris renders them an actively bad idea. Why is this? Well, the only reasonable nerf to moris at that point is "survivor must be on death hook to use it." However, you cannot tell me that it's a better idea to mori a survivor, taking up between 9-14 seconds (source on that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hrcylUc4sY) depending on character played for a cool animation, than to spend two seconds picking them up, and transporting to a hook? Objectively, unless there are no hooks within 7-12 seconds of travel time, depending on killer, you're doing yourself an active disservice using the mori at that point. it's why I think PHead's Final Judgement is so well designed: it's fast. It WILL beat the time to pick up and transport. No reason not to use it if it's available. Full length moris on the other hand...not so worth it on a time saving perspective.
I'm also curious how OP feels about Devour Hope. If five stacks are obtained double hooking two survivors and single hooking one, and only after that does the fourth player get downed, they're dead. On first down. I bring up this scenario because it happens, and yet I don't think I've ever seen survivors upset by it. Yet moris are extremely upsetting for...some reason.
Personally, if I'm being moried as a survivor, it's free clearance to move on to the next game. If I wasn't having fun in that game, getting moried was probably a good thing since now I can move on to something more fun in the next game.
What do you think about changing moris so you have to hook every survivor once before you can use them?
That way killers would have to put in more effort to use it and can't just tunnel and mori the first survivor they hook without them making them too weak.
-
@Orion said:

66%. Killer has to win two chases, as opposed to three.
And no, Moris shouldn't be made useless.
Changing moris so you have to hook every survivor once berfore you can use them would make them a lot more fair without making useless
-
You don't want to use the cages all the time, because you don't getto use perks like BBQ or Pop and using cages could lead to an easy save which will hurt your map pressure.
His cages are pretty situational. There are opportunities where you want to use them and some where you don't.
And i refuse to play any killer without BBQ because you get barely any points.

It may sound like a stupid question but I've been trying to play DBD with one of my friends and he sounds just, so tired of it.
It's not that he dislikes the game but he says that for the most part if he plays survivor it's "hold M1 and chase, run to the window, round that corner, pallet stun, over the window, round the corner, etc."
When he plays killer he feels like it's just not rewarding, he can get 4ks easily enough but recently he's been getting 3ks with the last person always getting away, or at least most of the time. Maybe he's doing bad since he isn't feeling it.
He feels like at this point Immersive Claudette will be the only fun way to solve the issue. He'll have to M1 still but now he can "stealth around and avoid the killer, just absolutely make them mad." It's not really the making them mad he wants, just the stealthing. We all know though that killers do NOT like Immersive Claudette.
He'd play things like Burger King Myers and Jump Scare Myers. Those kind of meme builds and stuff for funsies but "at that rank (1) everyone knows how to deal with that." The game isn't scary or even jump-scary.
It stopped being fun for him because I guess the game lacks charm now. Content is good, game is alright but it boils down to it not being scary like it was when you first start out, now it's just any old 1v4 game for him. He seems to feel like the controls are just way too simple and the game is neither rewarding nor challenging.
Main point is: Survivor and Killer bore him, half the time anymore he only gets on, does a daily and hops out again.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to possibly improve his mood or is the game really losing it's charm? Does the game need some update that reimagines the game to really make it a scary challenge instead of a repetitive M1 game or is it just him?
Your friend sounds like he's really burnt out on this game.I would suggest taking a break from this game for some time, honestly.

Self care,Botany knowledge,Resilience and Spine chill is also quite a fun build.
-fast vault speed
-spine chill for stealthy killer
-faster progress on everything while being injured

Honestly, people say that in every game that has a ranking system. Especially team games, where everyone at every rank says their teams were trash. ๐
If you're Rank 1 in DbD, you're displaying SOME level of consistent competency. You aren't just going to keep getting red rank pips if you're AFK, chilling in lockers, Blendetteing for the hatch every game, and so on.
It doesn't mean you're a top pro player - but neither does any online ranking in other games. (A GM-rank player online in SC2 will still get bopped without any trouble by the top pros. Many of the top players in SF5 by online points drown in pools every tournament. So on and so forth.)
Nope,i've seen survivors trying to hide in plain sight, avoiding pallets and windows like the plague,a meg that self cared while she was infected etc.
There was no level consistent competency.

Why do you say that, though? Where did the number 10 come from?
The ranking system IS a strange beast, but if you got to red ranks as survivor, then you deserved to get there. Outside of cheating somehow, there's no other explanation. You fulfilled the criteria for reaching those ranks as the game presented them.
But those criteria just aren't enough.
Red Ranks is supposed to be the place for the top players, but that just isn't the case right now.
The amount of inexperienced players at those ranks is absolutely shocking.
