@Vancold Some adjustments to the killer side have to be made, but that shouldn't stop anybody from implementing a 2nd objective and bringing this game closer to a balanced state.
And bringing the game closer to being balanced should be one of the dev's priorities. Even if this is not e-sports, playing an unbalanced game brings a lot of frustration with itself. Also, this game has potential for e-sports. If the devs would like to go that route, it would be possible.
-
My guess is that he will be released in 9-12 hours. I'm also curious whether Ghostface will make it on time on consoles, considering the last-minute changes the devs had to make.
-
That would be highly complicated, for example: How should that additional player be awarded with Emblem points? How far can the trial progress before new players aren't allowed to join anymore? In which state and where should the "replacement player" spawn?
-
I like chases as both survivor and killer. Looping is now a part of DbD and one of the major reasons why this game is so successful.
The problem is that chases take too long compared to how fast gens are done, and that makes the game unbalanced. There are 2 possible solutions:
1) Making chases shorter. Remove some pallets and windows. Not what I'd like to see at all.
2) Giving the killer more time. That can be achieved by increasing gen time (not exciting) or introducing a 2nd objective.
-
We need a 2nd objective for balance reasons. With the current state of the game, killers need more time to get their job done. In theory, you could achieve that by increasing gen time, but that would not be exciting.
A big bonus that comes with a new objective: It would bring something new to the game. A lot of people are playing this game for two or three years and want to play something different. A new game mechanic will surely bring some of the veterans back to the game or make them play more than they are currently doing.
-
Play stealthy and don't be the first survivor to get found. Then someone else will get tunneled.
But what I'd really recommend: Learn how to loop. You will eather buy your team a big amount of time and you'll get your passive Emblem points in Lightbringer (changes to the Emblems are coming today) or the killer will simply leave you alone and go for a weaker target.
-
@Micheal_Myers You are telling us now that we should not attempt to down the potential insta-heal user until we have destroyed all pallets and windows... I'm out here.
-
@Tru3Lemon Not sure how long I will be using this avatar. But it's nice to celebrate GF's arrival that way. 😊

Look, I brought in an Insta-Heal 2 games in a row. Did I use it? Obviously. Why? to get rid of the addons and the med-kit. (Trying to Prestige Laurie Peacefully) Do I want an easy game? Nah, not important. To me it's about experience. If you don't experience it you won't know how to counter it.
EDIT: Look at Myers in All the Halloween Films. He was able to counter most things because he experienced them all throughout those films.
Now if you were presented such match then at least you experienced it, and maybe next time you will be able to counter it in some way shape or form.
@Micheal_Myers You are seriously trying to tell us that you are using insta-heals "to learn how to counter it"?

PSA: there are already ghostface avatars available.
@PolarBear Thanks for letting me know! 😀

@RotBb Ah okay, I thought you were talking about survivor perks. Killer perks can be adjusted if necessary.
When a new game mechanic gets introduced, in general, it can mean that perks or killer powers have to be adjusted. Think of when the EGC Collapse got implemented, for example.
-
@FireHazard Exactly. One can't argue about personal experiences.

Not every Red Ranker is a god @NoShinyPony but the majority of Red Rankers 3 months ago were worse than what you've probably seen the past few weeks.
Some would die in 10 seconds yes, but they'd also hide in lockers right in front of you, DH into a wall, drop pallets 5 miles away, do nothing but hide till hatch spawns, let their teammates rot of hook, etc, etc. And while this can be shown today still, its way less than it was 3 months ago.
This all ties into why the games so fast pace all of a sudden these past few weeks, it wasn't like this 3 months ago... or at least not to this degree.
@FireHazard That's just not my personal experience. Sadly, a lot of people are dc'ing when they don't have a successful game and don't depip, so these players climb to and stay at high ranks even if they don't belong there skill-wise.

What perks will you make with your new objective idea? Just curious because we're going to need some! :)
Chemistry Knowledge:
Some knowledge of how chemicals react with one and another made you exceptionally efficient when picking the right gas can. When gassing a generator, there is a 50% chance that the gas will count as two gas cans towards the generator instead of one. See the auras of all gas stations within a 24/28/32 meter range to you.
@NMCKE Nice suggestion! However, I would separate your idea in two perks:
Chemistry Knowledge:
When gassing a generator, there is a 50% chance that the gas will count as two gas cans towards the generator instead of one. Also, when being hit by the killer while you are carrying a gas can, you will not drop the can.
Fuel in their Veins:
See the auras of all gas stations within a 24/28/32 meter range to you.
Maybe I'll add a killer perk as well. Have to think about it some more. ^^
-
@RotBb A 2nd objective should be obligatory, not voluntary like the Halloween event. I think that leads to a 2nd objective being related to gens and/or exit gates.
Also, I don't think that such a 2nd objective would be an indirect nerf to existing perks. The survivors still have to do the gens, after all. And the strongest survivors perks aren't those which help with gen repair anyway.
-
@Ihatelife Exactly! We will know in 24 hours at the latest! ^^
-
It depends on which and how many items they are bringing. Playing in a 3-4 SWF is a big advantage in itself.
-
DbD in its current state is already unbalanced when survivors don't bring any items. If they bring items, that adds to the imbalance. I don't blame anybody if they dodge a lobby with 3 or 4 toolboxes.
An argument that my fellow survivor mains often bring up is "the killers dodge because they want an easy game". But aren't the survivors who bring several toolboxes and insta-heals those who want an easier game?
-
I'd like to see 3 perks from which we can choose 2 per bloodweb (at the higher levels, maybe starting at lvl 35-40).
-
Mind games are never safe, so they continue to be fun. Also finding great looping routes is fun.
-
@Heroiq I'm a survivor main and in the majority of these matches I play solo or only in a 2-men-SWF. I know how often random teammates dc early and ruin the match. But that hasn't anything to do with balance.
-
@TreemanXD Has to be trolls. Questions are getting downvoted, facts are getting downvoted. It doesn't make sense. Best thing is to not care about votes.
-
Are you asking for the killers to lose more time when getting stunned (because they have to pick up the weapon in addition) or do you just want a change of the animation?
-
@Heroiq If you are basically playing a 3 vs 1 game, then yes, winning is hard. I was talking about wasting SOME time and dropping pallets too early, not one person doing absolutely nothing or dc'ing early in the match.
-
Deactivate after-game chat (or messages if you are on console). If discussing on the forums makes you feel bad, take a break.
You should not have to stop playing the game because of random people on the internet.
-
@Heroiq You can still win with wasting pallets and wasting some time sitting around doing nothing without the killer having to play bad.
-
I'm on PS4 and deactivated friend requests + messages for everybody who is not on my friendslist. I suggest you do the same.
Don't let other players bother you, just enjoy the game!
-
@Michael_Myers Killers dodge lobbies to avoid super-unbalanced matches and that is totally fine. This game is already unbalanced enough without items.
However, I agree that dc's are bad.
-
@TreemanXD Yeah, but "not playing well" is just lack of skill and doesn't have anything to do with balance. Balance-wise, solo survs are stronger than killers.
-
So are you talking about dc's or about lobby dodges?
-
@GrootDude said:
I enjoy playing Freddy is why I play killer. (Lookin’ forward to the rework).
In the current state of the game it goes: SWF>Killer>solo
@TreemanXD If you are talking about power, I have to disagree. As long as the survivors play decently, they don't need voice com to still be the power role.
SWF > solo > killer
-
I don't really see that the "potatoe players" are gone from the high ranks. If I take a look at red ranks, there is still a big amount of players who get downed within 10 seconds or who make very bad tactical decisions.
I don't really see a difference with killers, either. There are some very skilled players and there are others who aren't.
But I have the impression that there are overall less people playing in the high ranks.
-
@Dehitay @Paladin_Goo I don't know about the very early days of DbD. I've been playing since 2017 and even back then, you could not grab healthy survivors who vaulted pallets or windows, as you can't today.
-
That's an absolute reasonable change, agreed.
-
@thesuicidefox Thanks for taking the time to check this and clearing this up!
-
@LordGlint Exactly. Calm Spirit/Doc is a very good comparison. The perk helps, but is not required.
A killer mechanic should be checked from the point "Can the survivor evade/avoid this or that by skill?".
The Spirit needs some skill to pull off gen grabs with Prayer Beads, but the survivor's skill is totally ignored. DbD is PvP, it should be skill vs. skill.
-
I can't imagine that anybody finds it fun to run around the same obstacle. Jungle gyms however are fun.

@Kathpatty What does "Your lips Goes ear" mean?

I'm playing on PS4 too and am having long queue times for survivors and killers.
Ah okay. I'm guessing that BHVR's servers are having problems keeping up with the increased amount of inquiries. I mean, because of the 2x BP event, a lot more people than usual are playing.
Let's hope the devs are taking a look at this issue.
-
@TreemanXD Exactly. Discussing about DbD's game mechanics from a point of "realism" doesn't make sense.
-
On which platform are you playing? Also, have you tried how long survivor queue times are for you?
I'm on PS4 and I'm having very long queue times for every role (solo surv, SWF, killer).
-
@Kathpatty Yes, it's extreme. I hope the devs can give us some information about whether they are working on this issue.
-
@Dehitay I know that currenty the killer is the one who is hosting the match. However, BHVR's servers are the ones handling the matchmaking. And the matchmaking is what is taking long.
We don't know how well BHVR programmed their matchmaking and their servers and we don't know how many servers they are using.
I can just make assumptions from what I am seeing: Due to rank reset, people don't have big differences in their ranks. Matchmaking takes ages for solo, SWF and killer, so a shortage of one role is not responsible. We have 50% more players than usual. All that doesn't necessarily mean that the servers are overloaded, but the indications are hinting in that direction.
-
@BadMrFrosty I'd be happy if I would get lobbies for at least one role in a reasonable amount of time.
If you don't like survivor, I guess it can't be helped. :(
-
Hatch aura reading is too strong for a perk. This should be limited to maps.
Also 10/15% speed bonus is too much. As a comparison: Hope has 7%.
Another issue: Such a perk would motivate a lot of survivors to go for the hatch instead of repairing gens.
-
I'd like to play more but I stopped for today. Lobby times are way too long for every role.
-
@Andreyu44 I tried playing solo, SWF and killer. For every role, it takes ages to get a lobby. Also, rank reset has just been two day ago, so almost everyone is playing on ranks closer to each other than usual.
It naturally comes to mind that the reason for these matchmaking issues could be the servers not being able to handle the increased amount of players.
I stopped playing for today now. It's frustrating. It's weekend, I have the time to play, it's 2x BP event and yet I can't play because of the lobby times.
It would be nice if the devs could give us some info about whether they are working on the issue. :(
