I will camp and tunnel if it’s immediately apparent that I got matched with pro survivors who know how to abuse every broken loop in the game. I’ll also camp and tunnel if three gens pop after my first hook because the SWF team all split up and made sure to optimally spend their time on gens. If I can tell the survivors are more on my skill level (which I would say is “intermediate”) and they haven’t tried their best to genrush me, then there’s no need to camp/tunnel.
I honestly don’t have time to spend thousands of hours in the game to become a pro-level killer who can mindgame the best survivors with every killer so that I can get quick downs against pros. I like to play casually; I will play “nice” if I’m in a match on my end skill level and I will play “scummy” if I got thrown into a match way above my skill level because the SBMM system doesn’t work.

I'll put my top 3 I wish were changed or updated, this game is great but I wish we could start to move away from the whole "running in a circle" in any given chase ever feature some of these maps got going on. I understand it's like one of the few things to lose the killer but I just wish there was other safe zones to use or something than running in circles.
- SWAMP
- Auto haven Wreckers
- Red Forest/Coldwind
RPD and The Game are my least favorite. Springwood sucks too. I see a lot of people say they hate the Swamp, but I never understood why. I’ve never had trouble with that map.

Hillbilly’s add-ons are nearly all trash. I stopped playing him because of how badly his add-ons got nerfed. PH’s range add-ons are really good and always help me get hits I wouldn’t have been able to get without them. But I agree PH’s other add-ons are pretty useless, especially the iri ones.

There are 2 buttons in front of you.
1 of them deletes dead hard, the other deletes boon: circle of healing.
Which one do you press?
You can't press both (though I most certainly would)
No question for me it would be CoH. It’s made all the M1 killers almost useless if you’re playing against a coordinated team. They were far more viable before CoH was introduced.

Always on - Always free
It’s good, but there are better perks. I see it as kind of a “training wheels” perk for survivors who don’t know the maps very well yet. I used to always use it, but as I’ve become more familiar with the maps I have realized that lots of other perks are more useful for helping me and my team survive. Remember that if they bring WoO that’s one less slot for BT, DH, DS, CoH or other more annoying perks to deal with as killer.
-
No, it won’t stop. It’s mostly from survivors who are too scared to play killer, or from a few killers who are apparently god-tier and get 12 hooks/4K every game with Clown, Legion or Trapper

I want to have fun playing this game but everyone seems to just be a toxic bully these days on here. Guess I can go play COD or other games I've gotten bored playing, or play Elden Ring, which is lonely AF...
FYI im not bald. My avatar has a buzzed haircut but they made fun of what I supposedly looked like. Not just this one guy, but his entire SWF. I'm sick of it.
I reported this, but I wanted to showcase why I dint want to play killer anymore. It isn't fun. It's even worse to be bullied after almost every game.

Hey I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Nothing in life bad enough to be worth suicide and I’m glad you’re ok. It sounds like this game is not helping your mental state and maybe it’s just video games in general that might not be helping right now. Hope you are able to get the help that you need. I don’t know you or your situation, but maybe trying something totally new ( maybe something outdoors, in person with other people, etc) would be a good change of pace.

SBMM doesn’t work, so no matter how low your MMR score may be, you’ll still be matched with survivors who have thousands of hours and know how to optimally loop every tile in the game

According to some on the forum, Leatherface is OP and uncounterable, regardless of the map 🙄

According to Steam Charts (only counts Steam but still it is one of the biggest platforms DbD have), since the Boon big mid chapter patch, less and less people are playing the game. During this time we had Artist chapter (very end of the November) and now Sadako. Both chapters didn't increase the playerbase at all.
So my question is: Why do you think people are not playing anymore? What do you think are the biggest issues right now with the game?
SBMM is trash and CoH makes camping and tunneling the only viable strategy to secure kills unless you’re playing against potatoes. That’s basically it

I think CoH is one of the biggest reasons for the game becoming less fun for both sides. Boons now give whole survivor teams infinite healing, destroying the hit and run play style that made tunneling and camping less of a necessity. Killers now have a secondary objective to snuff (but can’t destroy!) boons when gens speeds were already a problem. Killers now have to commit chases and try to tunnel survivors out of the match early to get anything better than a zero kill with all survivors t-bagging at the exit gates.

@TheDarkTyrant said:
Your game smells BHVR. Poopy stinky.
What do you guys think about DBDs state as a game? Do you find it fun?
Sometimes. I find it depends a lot on the time of day. Playing during the daytime (vs peak evening hours) is far more enjoyable on both sides. My theory is that there’s a better killer to survivor ratio during the daytime and maybe SBMM sort of works a little bit during the day (it doesn’t work at all during peak evening hours). There are also fewer 4-man SWF teams during the daytime. On the survivor side, solo queue always has a baseline level of frustration but during the daytime at least the queue times are shorter. I also have fun most of the time playing with friends in the evenings, but we usually have to wait between 5-10 minutes to get a match due to the killer shortage.
I totally agree with the comments from others that boons (particularly CoH) made the game way less fun. The game was way more fun for both sides before the CoH meta emerged which made tunneling and camping far more of a requirement to secure kills. I wish BHVR would admit they made a huge mistake with this perk and get rid of it or at least nerf it down to where it’s not as OP but I am not hopeful that they will

Mind you after my 20 "Loss" Matches of making sure Survs can escape and I have like 6-8 Hooks. My matches are still full of Meta Surv Perks that can actually loop and 5 Minute matches where Survivors let Teammates die because they're busy doing Gens. It's still so boring it amazes me.
Doesn’t matter how many matches you lose. SBMM doesn’t work, so you’ll get sweaty matches against pro-level survivors no matter what your MMR is

Keep in mind that the devs have made it crystal clear that they consider 'smack talk' to be an essential part of online gaming. Why...I have no idea.
Unless it's rising to the level of racial slurs or actual threats, I wouldn't bother reporting.
I agree - the only reason I can think of for the devs keeping the post-game chat in the game is because they’re ok with toxicity in the game. There’s literally no other reason for the chat to exist other than to give players the opportunity to harass and bully each other.

Hello everyone, I recently started playing Blight and I am really bad with him. I enjoy playing and trying to improve my blight. But lately I have been getting very toxic players almost every match and it’s really hurting my motivation to play him. I’ve gotten multiple people keeping the game hostage now and not doing gens just so they can keep clicking their flashlights at me for 30 minutes, I have gotten some very nasty messages in the end game chat and it honestly surprised me how emotional people get over a game. I just want to ask all of you killer players. How do you deal with toxicity and what can I do to not care about it so much?
I just started playing Blight too and I’m also terrible! I have just been practicing my rushes/flicks and not taking matches too seriously. Also bring NOED so you can down and kill any especially toxic survivors after the last gen is popped. as for the post-game chat comments, best advice I can give is just turn it off.
-
I would camp less if survivors didn’t have a free health state perk, an unlimited team healing perk and broken loops on some of the maps. I have far more success getting kills by camping than when not, so why shouldn’t I do it?

Every single game I was paired with new players, doesnt matter how well I played there is no way of even Escaping.
You're putting me against meta build killers (dont have a problem with perks) who also have some decent game knowledge (not the best like I'm use to) with a team of noobs...
I shouldn't be paired with people who dont do gens and just walk round and hug the edge of the maps wall. Seriously you're tell me that I deserve to lose MMR over this?
And yes mmr matters to me, I dont wanna verse new players. Experiencing and out playing higher skilled opponents is what I find most fun. The LAST thing I want is to go down into games where every game is a miserable loss because people dont help or even play the game.
Every game today. Had at LEAST 1 player like this, days like this is why I uninstall your game for ages at a time and why I debate leaving for good.
Good game, bad ranking.
SBMM is a failed system. It doesn’t work because in order for it to work properly it would require far more killer players than we currently have. To keep queue times down for survivors, SBMM has to be modified to allow for a wide range of MMR, essentially making the system useless.

This is something that I often wonder.
When I play killer, unless the enemy team is really cocky and BM, I generally feel bad 4king - especially if it's been a good game and they just got unlucky with a potato, a DCer or a single misplay that turns into 3 downs (seriously people, stop trying to sabo so much! It tends to lose you the game).
I'll often let the last survivor go, or sometimes even a duo. This has become even more common since I've started playing survivor more regularly.
Anyone else think like this?
I will only let survivors escape if:
- one of more of their teammates DCs or suicides on first hook (will let all remaining survivors farm and escape)
- they were obviously newer players and stomped them with a strong killer build (will at least let the last one have hatch)
- Survivor played really well and their teammates were potatoes - will give them hatch

While I appreciate finding a totem first thing, especially on this map, I'm sure the killer didn't really appreciate her hex being booned before her first chase. Not that it mattered she 4k'd but that's not the point.
On a separate note, if you boon 1 haunted ground does the other go away?
I thought I had some bad hex totem spawns in the past (like 5 feet away from a gen in plain view), but that is truly horrendous to have it next to survivor in the loading screen

Apparently: 'it's not fair to play Demo because nobody can buy him anymore, so they don't know what to do against him'.
Just a weird day, or is this a...thing now?
Demogorgon seems like one of the last killers anyone would DC against. Personally I would rather face him than almost any other killer as he seems pretty balanced and have plenty of ways to counterplay.
-
First of all, make sure to report anyone who’s sending you abusive messages. Hopefully the devs will ban them, especially if they’re are telling you to ######### - that’s incredibly serious bullying. As for the reasons why people do it - that’s a pretty simple answer, really. There are unfortunately a lot of shi**y human beings in this world who make themselves feel better by tearing other people down, and they feel emboldened because they can hide behind their keyboards in their parents’ basements. My advice would be to just turn off your post-game chat. I really wish the devs would remove post game chat completely because there’s zero benefit to having it and it really just encourages toxicity and bullying. Thank you for being the better person and ignoring these piece of **** human beings who are bullying you. Hope you don’t get discouraged and remember that you are a far better human being than these pathetic slime buckets.

This is just silly. Just because something doesn't solve the grind forever doesn't make it not a good idea. There doesn't have to be one singular thing that fixes the grind; I know it's revolutionary but you can in fact do more than one thing at a time.
The transition to removing perk tiers should have been started 2 years ago as the first (and not only) step to reduce the grind. Then, two years later, they do something else to reduce the grind.
But this is BHVR, who works at the pace of an ice age glacier. So I'm not surprised that they don't give a damn enough to update the game systems gradually in a way that people actually care about in a timely manner.
Totally agree. For the devs to reject this because “it’s not a long-term solution” is ridiculous. Nobody can argue that eliminating perk tiers would not help reduce the grind. I also find it hard to believe that it would be difficult to implement as they are claiming. But I’ll hold off judgment until I see what solutions they’ve come up with for grind reduction - maybe the changes will be even better than removing perk tiers.

Some of the datamining posts I have seen on Reddit showed up to 5,000+ survivors waiting in Q per killer during NA east primetime. That's why the Q times are like 10-15 minutes at peak hours. I don't think it would be "just a minute or two"
5,000 survivor players for every killer player? Uh, that can’t be right…

... play Plague? Seriously, this killer was made for this. Sure, she's got a bit of a learning curve, but comes with a fair and decent selection of add-ons, awesome skins, and more importantly, hard-counters the healing meta. Her add-on selection is especially nice, since she doesn't have any add-ons you're never going to use, and that's a big plus in my books.
Survivors either stay infected and broken (and still have 2 health states if they use DH, so nothing really changed), or they cleanse and give you a pretty strong power that can injure or down multiple survivors at once. I compare her to a much slower and shorter ranged huntress, but anyone who's played a projectile killer can probably adjust to the slower projectile speed just fine. You can arc your shots over obstacles / tiles and get some amazing downs, the black incense is spectacular, the prayer tablet meme add-on is actually viable and really strong with other infection duration / effectiveness add-ons, I don't see what's not to love here.
Corrupt intervention and infection duration add-ons are so good on her, just cover the non-corrupted gens in vomit, and you'll automatically know if someone touched one. You can do that with exit gates and totems too. Non-infected survivors don't want to always get healed by or rescue infected survivors, and if they do, then that's a win for you.
One downside is a lack of mobility, and big maps can really hurt, but I'm amazed I don't see more people playing plague with all the bellyaching that's going on around the healing meta.
So, if you're one of the many posters complaining about too much healing in the game, why not give Adiris a try? Vomiting on survivors is also pretty cathartic, and good for the soul. Why not put Blight, Nurse, Spirit and Huntress on a shelf for a bit, and try out something new? I've probably run into one plague last month, and there's a good chunk of new survivors that don't know how to effectively play against her at all.
Anyways, that's my pitch for Plague, a mostly forgotten killer that has a lot of relevancy in the current day meta. What are your thoughts about this? Are you going to give it a try and see for yourself?
If a single survivor perk makes only one out of the many killers viable, don’t you think maybe that’s a problem?

is it the box? Is it cuz he has anti chase? Or is it just the add-ons?
I only hate him in solo queue. He’s specifically designed to stomp solo q teams because either everybody is going for the box and nobody on gens or nobody gets the box and it’s permanent chain hunt. Against SWF he can be balanced or even underpowered if the survivors block his chain hunts for the whole match.

New content from Dowsey but also good question. Do you think DbD needs operation health?
Do I think it needs it? Yes. Do I think it will happen? Probably not. Player numbers aren’t dropping enough yet, and those who are leaving aren’t all leaving because of game health issues. Until players start leaving in droves specifically due to game health issues, there’s little incentive for the devs to spend resources on a game health “chapter” and forgo revenue from new content.

As in - what keeps you playing?
For me:
- Finally we have multiple viable killer metas (honestly, 4 of them that are pretty damn good depending on killer).
- SBMM is getting tweaked to be a bit less bonkers.
- More frequent events.
- Some buffs to terrible survivor perks, one or two aren't bad now.
- Incipient change to reduce the grind.
- Grade rewards actually feel worth it, and definitely get me playing more.
- Artist was and is a great addition to the game, both in terms of her perks and her kit. I wish Onryo had been this well designed.
- The audio work gets better and better every patch.
- No more stretched res! Finally I can play Ghostface again.
- While I'm terribly let down by the Onryo release, I do think her iri skin is probably the best skin in the game at present for any killer.
Despite its faults, it’s still by far the best game in its genre. I still have fun if I’m not matched against players far above my skill level. Unfortunately, matchmaking doesn’t work most of the time

Just as survivors should play killer to see what the necessity of tunneling looks like, killers should play say...10 games in a row as survivor. Perhaps take notes on the things you felt and how likely you were to keep cueing up. Just sayin' and I've been saying since the beginning...the game as is has had surprising longevity, given the type of feelings it invokes. I think the game could easily last another 5 years. I've played since day one on console and I still try to play a couple times a week.
Never played a game this long. The only impediment to playing is gen rush and tunneling. No, it isn't simply a matter of "getting better at chases". When in solo cue, I am frequently unhooked directly in front of campasaurus without borrowed time. Not once but immediately again.
I play killer...a lot. It has been a struggle but I haven't camped or tunneled in over two years. I realize I will never get better or even grow the community by playing like that. They want to rush gens and force that play style in me? I'll open the gate for them. Put a distance between myself and them with mmr. The perks killers have available now, make it so tunneling is unnecessary. I don't play high mmr though. Nor do I want to.
Does allowing lots of escapes help you get easier matches though? In my experience, SBMM doesn’t work at all. I’ll get pro-level players, total noobs and everything in between no matter how well or not well I play as killer. The other issue you’ll run into is if a killer dodges a lobby of four toolbox/four flashlight SWF, matchmaking will just pull in the next available killer regardless of MMR

Or maybe a lot of people are just burned out by the game, or are playing other games that released recently?
Not all player drops are because of game changes. And if people are burned out, new content update or dlc wont really change much in that regard.
It’s probably a combination of things. New games have definitely drawn players away. The game is almost 6 years old, so some long-time players are probably getting burned out. We also see examples of players on this forum who have quit because of various issues/recent changes to the game. I think the biggest problem facing BHVR is drawing in and retaining new players to replace the ones that leave. The awful grind and non-functioning SBMM system are the biggest thing turning off new players. Supposedly we’ll be getting some relief from the grind soon, but who knows if/when SBMM will be improved to keep new players from getting matched against veteran pros.

Another idea: make DH a boon perk
-
It’s still “press E for free health state”. Imagine if killers had a perk where they could press “activate ability” to expose a survivor mid-chase for a short time and then just insta-down them. That would be the equivalent to what survivors have with DH. No way the devs would ever allow a perk like that to exist.
