Basically the title which killer would you play to rank up and which to mess around for me i play freddy the best (his synergy is so good if i hook someone i have PGTW and BBQ so i just tp to a gen i see a survivor on smack it then chase the survivor down them put them on a hook same thing). But for fun i play impossible skillcheck doctor (because good luck playing him against low ranks *Sad face*) and Legion (Again good luck against good survivors).

    For fun:

    -Sniper/Impossible skillcheck Doc

    -Scratch Mirror Myers

-Not hooking Legion (survivors LOVE this build)

    When I aim to kill:

    -Drift King Billy

    -Silent bell Wraith (this depends)

    -Silent Ghost Face

When I aim to win after I bother to do some practice:

-Fast charge Nurse (I typically need a few warm up games before I bring my Nurse out)

PS: This is all on PS4

They are a company who must support themselves and all the people in their employment. Like any company they have bills to pay, people to feed and a future of things to continue/advance. OF COURSE they want money and it will be a focal point to some degree with all their choices but I do not believe BHVR to be solely about money. I dislike the battle pass system and would rather it not be a thing in this game but I don't think its a greedy cash grab (yet). I think the "DLC" pricing is fine right now and nothing seems too crazy. I find cosmetics to be expensive but this is (I would imagine) a huge source of the income the game receives.

If a company wants to grow so it can become a better version of itself then it needs to make money and gather investors, this is just a fact of the world we live in. The important thing is to always stay true to your fans and not get too focused on your bottom dollar.

  • While I chose this option I would rather a second objective and not just longer M1.

It also means, that you can just use that to never lose a chase no matter the skill level and immersion of a survivor, soo that answers my question.

They don't really help. You leave scratch marks behind while in a chase so that's why you won't lose sight of a survivor. The blood orbs can be as old as 2-3 minutes meaning you may end up looking in spots no survivor has visited for ages.

Remember the survivor has to already be injured to leave orbs meaning you have blood pools and loud audio noises to find them, the orbs are not a reliable "locating" tool.

Lery's has always been my favorite map, and I'd argue it's balanced for both sides. There are a ton of "safe" windows but I'll admit it's too maze like. Maybe some landmarks would help people figure out the layout.

Agree its my favorite map. I honestly don't find it all that much of a maze. True if they made specific rooms only spawn 1 type of tile it could help sort the RNG a bit but I find it an easy enough map to work out.

Hawkins has it so specific rooms are always the same and it makes that map really easy to work out we know from experience it could help out with the people who get lost in Lerys.

Ever since Endgame Collapse has appeared, there has been a rampant rise in slugging in order to get a 4k. I personally believe this to be unhealthy as you are basically holding the game hostage and artificially extending its duration.

Killers are also complaining about the abuse of keys, yet they themselves are (probably) actually forcing Survivors to bring them to dodge this "strategy".

Force out the Survivor by hunting the hatch and closing it. They'll fairly reliably go for the two objective points. It also makes the game better for everyone.

And yes I play killer. Pig, Myers, Spirit and Doctor. 3/4 that I play are not mobility killers.

If you don't slug for the 4k you are punished by the emblem system and can possibly even de-pip or safety in a game. Also a promonent reason that a killer is going for the slug/4k is due to the fact that hatch exist. If a survivor gets a free escape from a hatch after a game the killer possibly worked their butt off to play how is that any less frustrating?

Believe me as a killer player I would rather not have to slug for the 4k either but if I want to get high ranks the emblem system and the hatch mechanics demand that I do.

First off, I play both killer and survivor and I have things I hate and like about both. Playing survivor lately has been a pain in the ass. Killers have so many ways to find survivors that it’s not funny. Most my killer matches are so easy they’re boring and I can almost always wipe out a team before two generators are done unless they’re well-coordinated, which is rare. I don’t even use any aura perks because the game would be mind-numbing for me, as in not enjoyable, and I’m not knocking anyone that does. I’m just saying that’s how I feel. This is why I feel Distortion shouldn’t have a limit on uses.

Let’s talk first about Aura Perks/Add-ons and then about what I find even more annoying Perks/Add-ons/Abilities that put you in an Exposed State.

There are 8 aura perks (correct me if I’m wrong) that any killer can use and then several killers (8 I believe and that’s not counting 2 that don’t necessarily reveal you as much as they alert the killer that you’re in the area) have add-ons on top of that to reveal auras of survivors. That doesn’t seem like a lot but they’re potent enough by themselves.

If you combine BB&C, Nurses Calling, Infectious Fright, and Spies From the Shadows you could almost have full range allowing you to see auras over the entire map minus a very minute gap here and there. But you don’t even need that. Just put on BB&C, Nurses Calling, and Discordance and it’s a slaughter fest. You can even switch out nurses calling with Knock Out and you’re still pretty much guaranteed another chase immediately.

BB&C is one of the most brutal perks the game has. It allows speed killers like wraith (yes he can be very fast with the right add-ons), spirit, nurse (she can blink easily across a map), hillbilly, Demogorgon, Freddy (who can teleport), legion (if he uses his ability to cover ground), Michael after he gets increased speed, and even hag (if she uses the right add-on or a trap is triggered) to get across the map super fast if the survivor wasn’t lucky enough to get into a locker fast enough (you better pray they aren’t running Iron Maiden or even I’m All Ears).

Killers have an insane amount of perks and add-ons to see survivor auras and sure they can only use four at a time but that is more than enough needed to find survivors wherever they may be. There is no limitation to how many times they can see an aura using these perks if the conditions are met (which let’s be real, is almost always).

    Aura Perks and Add-Ons

Michael (Scratched Mirror – reveals survivors aura within 16 meters)

Huntress (Glowing Concoction – hit victims auras are shown for 5 seconds)

Pig (Amanda’s Secret – aura’s of survivors removing headgear are revealed for 6 seconds & add-on Amanda’s Letter – while crouched all survivor auras are revealed within 12 meter range)

Ghost Face (Outdoor Security Camera – the aura’s of all survivors within your terror radius are revealed for 4 seconds whenever a marked survivor is put into a dying state)

Demogorgon (reveals auras of all injured survivors traversing the upside down)

Clown (Tattoo’s Middle Finger - reveals auras of survivors that are intoxicated for 6 seconds)

Purge (Black Incense - reveals aura’s of survivors puking for 6 seconds)

Wraith (“All Seeing” Spirit - reveals aura’s of survivors within 12 meters while wraith is invisible)

Nurses Calling – 20/24/28 meter range

    Barbecue & Chilli – 4 seconds / 40 meters from hook

Bitter Murmur – 5/7/10 seconds at the end of the game

Discordance – 8/10/12 seconds gen is highlighted yellow

Knock Out – dying survivors are exposed within 32/24/16 range

Spies From the Shadows – visual cue 20/28/36 meters

Territorial Imperative – revealed for 3 seconds upon entering basement

Infectious Fright – 4/5/6 seconds if within terror radius of killer when a survivor is put into dying state

Things that don’t necessarily reveal your aura but still let the killer know where you are or that you’re nearby:

Whispers – not revealed but still the killer knows you’re within 48/40/32 meters

Stridor – not revealed but breathing and sounds of pain are 25/50/50% louder

    **

Moving on to… Things that put survivors into an exposed state (so results in one hit down). As if playing survivor, getting hit, and not getting put into a dying state isn’t already hard enough the Devs decided to give all killers the opportunity to simply one-hit down survivors.

Now before you give me crap and say that the hex can be destroyed and a killer doesn’t get ebony mori that often let me be clear and say… survivors aren’t playing the same killer over and over again. That means they have the chance to experience abilities, add-ons, and EMs every single time they play. Just because YOU, as the killer, haven’t used one every single time you play doesn’t mean that the survivors your playing against haven’t experienced them in the game before, or the one before that, or the one before that, etc.

There are 5 Perks that put survivors into exposed status, 4 killer special abilities (I’m including Plagues vomit putting survivors into broken status which allows her to one-hit down them), Michael has 3 add-ons that expose survivors (one for the ENTIRE game), and Clown, Huntress, and Trapper all have add-ons that expose survivors. Then every killer can use Ebony Mori whenever they have them and the other moris (which I didn’t even mention below) as well. That’s 14 (counting each mori and each killer add-on and perk) ways that survivors can be put into an Exposed State.

You may argue that not everyone plays those killers and uses the add-ons but that doesn’t change the fact. Besides, almost every match I’m in when I play survivor has killers running one of or a mix of: NOED, Haunted Ground, or Devour Hope. Even killers with the special abilities to one-hit down you (not that they can’t use them).

    List of One-hit down Abilites/Perks/Add-ons

Devour Hope – exposed until hex is destroyed

Iron Maiden – exposed and aura revealed for 3 seconds

Hex: Haunted Ground – exposed 40/50/60 seconds

Hex: No One Escaped Death – Exposed (until totem is destroyed)

I’m All Ears – Exposed if 48 meters away and performing rushed action

Hillbilly can one hit down you (special ability)

Michael can one hit down you (special ability Evil Within III)

(Plus add-ons: Tombstone Piece & Judiths Tombstone - doesn’t even one hit down but allows Michael to kill a healthy survivor with Evil III Within whether they’ve been hooked or not + add-on Fragrant Tuft of Hair that gives unlimited evil within and results in all survivors being in exposed status permanently)

Clown can one hit down you (using add-on Redhead’s Pinky Finger)

Ghost Face can one hit down you and possibly others if he red rings more than one person (special ability)

Cannibal can one hit down FOUR survivors in one attack (special ability)

Plague can one hit down you if you’re in broken status (two hits with vile purge will down you and we all know it reaches incredibly far)

Huntress can one hit down you (using add-on Iridescent Head)

Trapper can one hit down you without touching you, you just have to escape from his trap and if you don’t you’re caught anyway (using add-on Honing Stone)

Every killer can use Ebony Mori which will one hit down you.

To sum things up all I want to say is:

Distortion shouldn’t have a limit on uses when killers aura revealing perks/add-ons don’t. It would be just as fair as the killer being able to see survivors the entire game. This should at least be tested out.

One-hit downs and exposed status is out of control. I think that the Devs need to look at a better way to empower killers without ruining the experience for survivors. NO ONE playing as survivor wants to be one-hit down. It’s already hard enough to escape after being hit and 9 out of 10 times you don’t anyway unless you're pro status (waits for get gud responses then reminds self that is in red ranks). It almost makes it feel pointless to play as survivor when you get multiple matches in a row with killers using one-hit down abilities/perks/add-ons.

The most frustrating thing about it is there is NO counter to being put in an exposed status if you’re already in chase. Yes, there’s the perk Dead Hard but you better pray you don’t have lag and even if you do use it you’re probably going to get downed anyway. You just delayed it. The only time I’ve seen Dead Hard work out amazingly is when it was used to get out the open exit gate.

I believe that the outrageous amount of aura perks and one-hitters (summing up everything that one-hit downs) are making the game less enjoyable for survivors (not every survivor). I think it’s why so many survivors DC. Although I know camping and tunneling someone off a hook is a huge problem as well (that the perks obviously aren’t helping with anyway).

4Ks should be rare. They’re like winning the lottery. The killer should average 2/3 kills a game, leaning more toward 2. And for you survivor-hating killers out there… survivors aren’t a unit. They’re individuals. Four separate people. Each kill is a win.

And I know killers are going to come at me hard, maybe some survivors, but I speaking from my personal experience. I was trying to do rift challenges the other day and almost every single game people were being one-hit down. Don’t get me started on the tunneling. It’s out of this world.

Okay. Hit me with your hate. I know it's coming. (prepares for tidal wave of hate - eyes closed - deep breaths)

If Distortion had unlimited uses (or lots more tokens) then the new meta would be Object of obsession and distortion as you could always see the killer while they could not see you.

I don't like the idea of making a sequel to a game that has no story mode attached to it so if we were for some reason to get a DBD 2 and it was still just a assym multiplayer game then I wouldn't buy.

This is the only map I really struggle on, any advice is appreciated. :)

I find Lery's to be a more difficult map to learn loops due to how polarizing different tiles can be when a window becomes a door. Basically the rooms you want to be at are:

1: The "Office" as it has a safe pallet that cannot be mindgamed (DO NOT fall for the window/desk spot near the end of the office as this is an unsafe spot without Lithe.

2: Center map upstairs window (the one with metal shutters near, not the drop but the actual window) fall down and either jump the window near where basement can spawn (still center map) and loop back to stair window. This spot was easily extended with old BL but won't be as bad now that its getting changed.

3: The rooms with the 6 shower stalls (can possibly get 2 such rooms in a trial) has a un-mindgamable pallet on MOST killers (small killers can mindgame). Sometimes this room will not spawn a pallet and other times you will get both a pallet AND a safe window.

Aside from these spots I'm not sure of any super strong spots. It mostly seems to be beneficial to try and lose line of sight to edge yourself further away.

Legion is getting nerfed again! YAY. Inadvertently, they are are also bringing back Old Legion, the main reason Legion got nerfed in the first place. There is no winning with Legion. They are either completely broken and unfun for survivors, or unfun and completely neutered as the killer. Maybe we can use some ideas from the thread that @UlvenDagoth made. At this point I don't think there is any possible solution for fixing Legion, other than a complete power rework.

Feral frenzy can now be used to dash into a locker and reemerge from another of your choosing. When reemerging you take control of another member of the Legion (at random). Since his power is trash lets give him a fun map pressure tool that makes LEGION feel like more than a single troubled teen.

This isn't my idea as a power rework just a fun addition to make Legion the first killer you can have multiple cosmetics equipped to.

  • Oni has to use up some of his power to "insta" break a pallet unlike Demo-goodboy who just presses a button for half a second.

I'm not arguing for or against your idea just felt like tossing that into the mix.

  • Wait you expected me to read ALL of it?

  • @indieeden7 said:

You do realise that the more gens get done, the more pressure you have right? I understand this complaint when the gens are as far from each other as possible but how often does that actually happen? Also why are you complaining about gens being done when you are camping someone. The go to counter to camping from killer players is "just do gens" but then there are people like you saying "I wouldn't camp if survivors didn't rush gens".

This community is so backwards sometimes it's ridiculous.

That depends on the map and gen placement.

  • Lery's was the same way when it first came out. Once people start to understand Hawkins it won't be a problem. I haven't played the map too many times as killer but I know as a survivor I never struggle to find where pallets spawn, so as a killer it wouldn't be too difficult to just keep track of the ones I break.

Hawkins in just a big rectangle and once you understand this you can really easily track where each room is located.

  • @Mc_Harty said:

Actually yes. It'll help gauge how much time you'll waste in a section or if the survivors are running into a dead zone.

Considering YOU are the one chasing these survivors you should know whats been dropped and not. I think this perk will be the "Windows of opportunity" for killers, only helpful for learning a new map as a new killer player.

Since people call the end game perk NOED a crutch for some reason people ignore Blood Warden and how great of a perk it is compared to NOED D:. Now I don't think either are crutches in fact I think the opposite of Blood Warden. NOED is easy to activate and gives you an instant down and a speed boost. The fact that it gives an instant down is probably why so many think it is unfair :/. But compared to Blood Warden frankly NOED is complete garbage, it's completely survivor reliant because it relies on survivors not doing totems and survivors tend to cleanse a lot more nowadays. And on top of that it usually only gains you one hook which will usually end with the survivor just getting off hook with BT ect and your NOED being cleansed right away.

Blood Warden on the other hand is a great perk, first of all it doesn't have the problem NOED has. The survivors being able to deactivate the perk making it a waste of a slot. It also isn't hard to get a hook in the end game which makes it simple to activate. It also works well because of EGC it compliments the mechanic of it well and if your lucky you can go for an EGC play with it and kill everyone via the timer. A lot of survivors don't expect it as well, for some reason survivors decide to stand at the gate waiting for the killer to come even in the EGC which lets you benefit from this perk most of the time without having to worry about people just trying to escape. Personally I've turned around way more games using Blood Warden than I have NOED. Blood Warden locks all the survivors in allowing you to score possibly multiple more sacrifices than you would have because of the 1 minute lock in you gain from the perk.

    I noticed something...

At the start of the game(as survivor), you do your thing, maybe cleanse a totem you found, maybe open a chest... but eventually you go to the generators.

You start doing the gen, nothing happened yet.

And nothing happens at any point during the gen progress. No heartbeat, no one else gets hurt, the obsession doesn't start a chase.

At which point do you start moving the camera everywhere because you need to know who the killer is and where the ######### he/she is?

Because, at least to me, this beggining stage where nothing happens is the biggest tension builder in the game. Specially if I don't know who the killer is and have to be careful with stealth killers.

    Match start.

    -Find/rush to a gen

    -Instantly see my closes pallet/loop/escape

-Keep an eye alternating on my possible exits

-Watch for obsessions icon moving or teammate getting hit

    -DAMN! Missed a Ruin skillcheck

-Stay on gen regardless because I have balls of steel

-Hear Myers hit tier 2, turn camera to the crack in the wall I hadn't noticed

-Cry as Daddy Myers takes me into his arms.

    Frames also effect killers differently.

Doc runs at low frames thanks to all his visual effects.

    Plague drops frames when vomiting.

Myers drops frames when hitting a different Evil Tier.

Wraith sometimes stutters during the "windstorm" effect of uncloaking.

    Etc, etc, etc.

When survivors stack on gens they get bonus points when the trial is over but the gen doesnt get done any faster with more people it just doubles, triples, or quads the bonus points depending on how many people are on it

    Thoughts?

4 solo gens = more overall gen progress than 1 gen with 4 people. Gen rushing is much faster when everyone tackles a different gen (until you get down to the last couple of gens). I would much rather see an objective that pulls you off a gen for a bit, similar to how the Putrid Flowers worked during last years Halloween event.

Make survivors goals take longer without just adding more "M1" time.

but the damage they inflict is equal or currently greater then what a killers addons can do. a commodious toolbox with addons is 2x 50 second generators solo. One survivor with that essentially removes a generator from the game.

They are also reusable if you keep them by escaping AND you can find more fore free during a trial.

You know the reason why Rage quits are a thing? IT is because this game's lack of solid counterplay. Players are frustrated and just BAIL.

1 ) Calm spirit and Spies from the shadows was a good mix.- So that is the only positive there.

2 ) BBQ and Distortion with 3 ticks. NOT a good mix. - Killers will disagree on this one. ;)

3 ) End game Collapse. Player is not going to find the hatch quick enough and the exit gates ALWAYS spawn next to one another. The thing has 3 giant industrial grade red lamps that burn VERY bright and are seen quite a ways off. ALong with a hockey-Rink buzzer that ANNOUNCES the efforts made on the gate. Yeah...

4 ) Slugged survivors. Great. we are supposed to sit around in the dirt and have NO way of getting up. The killer gets to slug us. Not hook us and walk away for a BIO or to surf the interweb. So if they do that. You gonna ban killers for "holding the game hostage?" NO. Probably no. and the response of bringing a Bill perk because its meta now.. Yeah that isn't going to hold up.

Before you all start punishing Disconnects. Why dont you ask people why they DC or pull on the hook in the first place. Its not about bad sportsmanship, toxic or salty behavior. Its about players that are fedup with counterplay going away. If that is the case. We are better off yanking on the hook and moving on to the next match. Sorry.

Problem here is YOUR reasons for DCing are not EVERYONES reasons, so if you do not punish the real problem (DCing in the first place) then everyone will find a reason to "justify" DCing.

Punish DC its far from a foreign concept.

That's not it at all. We want the fancy events too, and they'll mostly likely be making a return in the future. For the time being though, we need to focus on game health.

I really want to believe this to be the goal and if it turns out to be true then I'm all for it. I've said before that a sturdy foundation will make future updates run a much smoother transition (yeah I'm far from the only person to have said this). Please prove this will be more than just words by keeping in touch with the community on progress ^.^

Sorry guys, I have a stockpile of these things and they gotta go before they become dang near useless @bringontheDC

Survivors - Ewww all Spirits are using Prayer beads and Moris now! *DC*

BHVR - Spirit has received an influx of "overperformance" these past few weeks...SHE MUST BE NERFED MORE!

I understand WHY they are ditching events but I will really miss them. The Chinese New Year event was enjoyable, last years Halloween event was fantastic and having no Summer event was really disappointing.

Future events are going to be more akin to this years Halloween event. Which didn't even feel like event.

Even if the Halloween event had been exactly the same as last years, I would still have enjoyed it. I want to to collect lamps and I want to squeeze juice out of plants.

Instead, we will get events where we have to facecamp 4 Claudettes, make 5 killers ragequit and teabag Hillbilly twice on a Hill while running Windows of Opportunity.

Community - Hey why don't we delay a chapter to focus on bug fixes?

BHVR - We hear you and have decided to cancel all future events!

    Community - But...that's not....

BHVR - No need to thank us.

Honestly I rarely play this game anymore (mostly due to 3 year burnout and many other great games) and the events were one of the reasons I kept coming back. I was very disappointed in this "Halloween event" ,if you can even call it one, as it was just a glorified Battle pass demo lacking the heart and spirit of the first event.

If they are actually going to spend the extra time on fixing the game then I won't give them too much hate but sadly with how the gaming industry has been over the past few years with greed as the motivator (and the new DBD Battle pass many didn't want) I struggle to believe this will be the true end-goal.

As long as they don't disconnect "excessively", it is fine. You can even admit to DC'ing and it's fine. As long as it's not excessive. If they disconnect excessively, the system is automated to ban them.

Yeah its worked great these past 3 years...

Sorry but I immediately stopped reading after the part where you started talking about protecting totems.

If you think that’s part of the objective as killer, you’re playing the wrong game.

If you chase a survivor off your totem and get into a chase with them you not only A) Get into a chase but B) Keep that totem alive. Why else do you think Thrill of the Hunt exist? If you immediately dismiss protecting a totem as a possible tactic for the situation your in, then you do not see the bigger picture of the match. Yes you should expect that totem to eventually fall as spending your whole game going for the totem will result in a loss but far more often than not you will find that protecting the totem leads to quick chases (as people try to get rid of it) and makes survivors spend time trying to hunt that totem down.

"If you think that's part of the objective as killer, you're playing the wrong game" - No I'm weighing my options and making a tactical decision based on the situation the match is in.

Imagine the devs trying to program a Huntress bot that doesnt just completely demolish everyone from across the map, or try to program the bots to NOT instantly see every survivor trying to be sneaky.

BHVR- We gave the bot Google "learning AI".

Player- Wow and how well does it work what sorts of things did it learn?

    BHVR- It face camps...

Aftercare is so great and is definitely under used. Its great for information without someone having to be injured (Empathy) or requiring survivors to be close with Bond (although Open Handed with Bond is great)

3 stacks of Aftercare can determine the outcome of a trial and raise the survival percentage considerably. It would be cool if more people ran it.

As someone who typically ends up as the gen jockey I find Bond works fine for keeping myself undetected. My view is why use Aftercare when Bond will basically do the same thing? If you don't see people near you and don't hear a TR then you know the killer isn't close (unless stealth) if you want to find that injured survivor just move towards the middle of the map and you will almost always find the aura.

I'm not saying aftercare is bad (its great if your playstyle is altruistic) I personally just find Bond more reliable.

  • Wait I was playing against real people in low ranks!?

Will we, the community, actually get to partake in the data gathered by the survey or will we be left in the dark once again? Been forever since we got to partake in some data.

    I've done the survey, nonetheless.

I'm concerned that if BHVR has another player survey that most people will just "CTRL ALT DELETE" once a question they don't like pops up or things get to hard. And if the survey starts over-performing then we won't see them again.

    People dc versus all killers.

Just recently I've had them happen when playing Trapper, Hag, Huntress and Doc.

Some who loses a chase too quickly dc, some who hear a specific killer dc, some dc when it's a map they dislike. Some dc when they are being slugged, if the killer wants to farm or certain perks/add-ons being used.

The set pattern for most dc's I've seen when people are losing chases too quickly no matter the killer. There are those of course who just dc versus certain add-on's and killers which could still be true for my first point but also what they find boring to verse.

I don't understand anyone playing a game where they can't accept it for what it is.

    All true.

I also don't understand why BHVR is so scared to implement any of the DC punishment ideas that currently exist in nearly every other online game (all tried and tested to work at varying degrees) in place of their current "threshold" system. The fact that DCs remain as rampant as they do today (they have had 3 years) shows that their current system simply doesn't work and the fact it still remains boggles my mind.

I know they mentioned they are planning changes for the dedicated servers but will this just be another "too little too late" situation? BHVR doesn't have the best track record for releasing things that work as intended during launch (or in the near future).

If you want to use this entity excuse (The whole point of the entity is to be so vague it can be/do anything, if you're saying "well entity wouldn't like that" that means the Entity is poorly written or you don't understand it) you should consider maybe it feeds off every emotion: fear, hope, anger, sadness, etc...

We have been told the Entity feeds on Hope. I haven't seen anything claiming it feeds off other emotions.

Edit: Deleted my original answer and just left whats above because I'm not debating vague lore and personal opinions on why I would or wouldn't like a character.
