So is the claim that the game uses the rank of whoever creates the SWF group, but you're willing to not only accept those anecdotes as evidence, but even present them as fact.

Claim from a member of the dev team > anecdote from some random on the forums

  • @Orion said:

I can confirm this is not what's happening. I think it uses an average of all the ranks in the group. Otherwise, I'd be getting purple rank killers nonstop when I play SWF instead of mostly yellow rank killers.

Personal anecdote, impossible to verify. Could simply be a case of the matchmaking loosening the restrictions due to being unable to create a match.

Or maybe the matchmaking is just completely broken, like so many other things (Ghost Face on PTB, vanilla experiment PTB, for two very recent examples) and just assigns the group leader a random rank for matchmaking and uses that. It certainly wouldn't be surprising to learn that yet another system is completely busted and doesn't work the way it's supposed to

This is what needs to be changed. The matchmaking should not use the rank of whoever started the SWF, but instead use the lowest rank.

Yes, what the ######### were they thinking? That's absolutely ridiculous

  • Can never work

Solo survivors get punished indirectly by having worse teammates

SWF can just dodge lobbies until they all get into the same one and bypass the debuff

  • You don't need testers to find things as obviously broken as the PTB, or most of the other issues

The devs just clearly don't care about quality and want to rush content as fast as possible to make more money

  • One of them is hitting a survivor while you have no terror radius

I can't get into a game as killer without waiting for half an hour and the one time I could be bothered to actually wait I wasn't able to get anyone to Exposed because of how ridiculously broken the PTB is. I don't remember if stalking gave points, it might have, I would also guess that hitting an Exposed survivor will give points

  • Recently the devs have set the disconnect threshold back to "normal", it was more lenient because of crashes: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/63559/developer-update-may-2019#latest (scroll to "DISCONNECTION HANDLING - OUR PLAN, OUR ACTIONS")

If the devs actually cared about the disconnect issue they would have made it stricter. They did not, therefore, clearly they don't care.

For some reason they claim that dedicated servers will allow them to handle it better. Considering that there already is a system that is supposed to be able to handle disconnects, I find it very unlikely that dedicated servers will change anything

vigil. actually let's you recover while running. (not to forget that this is a perk slot. so the survivor is literally wasting a perk slot just for this)

No, that's a horribly unfun mechanic that can never come back

Knock Out: Dying Survivors are unable to move for 20/25/30 seconds (but they can recover). + the aura hide that it currently has

Alternative: Survivors in the dying state can't recover for X seconds

Now it actually does something even if the survivors have Aftercare, Empathy or are playing SWF, all of which can completely bypass the only effect it currently has. According to the wiki it takes 30.4 seconds to recover to 95% (the maximum without Unbreakable or No Mither). The Dying state is not a super fun mechanic for survivors but staying in it for longer if the killer has Knock Out, which not everyone will run, and not every killer will always make use of even if they run it, hooking the survivor instead, makes it seem fine to me

  • Separating SWF queues from regular queues will never work because they can just leave lobbies until they all get in a game together, the higher the rank the less other survivors and the easier it gets to do this

  • Legion's power is easier to hit with than Nurse blinks

  • @Slayer said:

So you re not going to ######### about killer tunneling , going easy ways after second objectives implemented? You not going to dictat killer how to play?

@Madjura what if the meters while working was a static 24 meters?

    Would that still be bad?

Probably, I don't know how close distance of totems to the generators, but it seems too strong still

  • That perk would completely kill all hex perks

    No

  • >Why make it so hard when there is no ranking rewards whatsoever? Seems so pointless

Exactly. Rank rewards should have been a MUCH higher priority, LONG ago. It doesn't even have to be anything fancy, it could simply be bonus bloodpoints

Right now you get punished with longer wait times if you rank up. The rank system doesn't improve the quality of games. You will play against exactly the same builds and exactly the same quality of player at high ranks as you would in the middle ranks, because smart players who could get to rank 1 intentionally don't go there because again, the only thing you get from it is longer wait times.

  • @Pudding said:

they put new score stuff in the ghostface patch in case u didnt see. apperantly its gonna be easier for survs to rank up then

Unfortunately that's more or less pointless when survivors can continue to just disconnect to depip without consequence

  • Now that chapters aren't required to be killer+survivor+map anymore it's entirely possible that the remaining three chapters won't have killers, just survivors

  • @Karl_Childers said:

Dead perk for sure to solo players. SWF will be able to much better coordinate protection hits so it’s probably still usable to them. I think they should’ve kept it working when healthy though if it’s protection only.

Generally you want to be at full health when taking a protection hit. That means you have to heal or be healed three times, or the equivalent of three health states. Mettle Of Man gives you one health state for free, so you "lose" two health states overall. That's awful, even if you coordinate to farm protection hits.

  • Dying Light was never not useless

@WaffleFalafel "...the rift is not permanent, it's something temporary." "...and in the rift, the player will be able to unlock more cosmetics"

I don't know how you think it won't be a 3 month battlepass.

The tones are the lore stuff and the rift is the cosmetic stuff. There might also be cosmetics in the tones baseline but that wasn't specified.

I believe the charms that you can get come from the Archives / Tomes. Technically those are cosmetics. But nothing was said about regular cosmetics, i.e. clothes

  • Drop the pallet earlier then

  • Not all pallets will be even changed, just the super bullshit ones

  • Can easily cause situations where the game becomes unwinnable for survivors because it would take too long to repair the remaining generators, in that case the right play by the killer is to do nothing because if they kill someone the hatch could spawn

Very unfun, should not exist as an offering

  • Won't ever happen

  • @Bongbingbing said:

Hopefully he is given immunity to those kinds of perks when in stealth. It's just too easy to take away ghostfaces power, all you have to do is have anyone look at him for 1 second and he's knocked out of his power. Incredibly stupid decision in my opinion but don't think they'll change it to be honest, the least they could do is minimize how easy it is by giving him immunity.

Here is what's going to happen:

    • everyone on the PTB runs Object Of Obession or other detection perks
    • proceeds to cry on the forums about how the new killer is too weak and needs to be buffed
    • release happens, no major changes, more crying on the forums
    • survivors disconnect if the killer turns out to be not Ghost Face because their detection perks are garbage against other killers
    • more crying on the forums
  • Calling it now: The Pig cosmetics will be in the battlepass, in the final tier, and will require a stupid amount of grind to get

I put in 36 hours straight in Fortnite during Season 4 to try and get the last bits of content because I go to college, so I can't commit to stuff like this. It's a disgusting anti consumer practice that preys on peoples desire to gain 100% in a game.

Thank you, that is exactly what I am talking about. And the devs plan to release something like this every 3 months if I remember correctly from the chart.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Well, I hope that all cosmetics in The Rift, after each period, get shifted straight to the store. Rather than a Quarter or more just falling off the face of the earth.

Shards for the free stuff, and inflated prices (either shards or Auric Cells) for the individual paid pass stuff (such that the "battlepass" can be considered a bundle deal).

The ability to gain the cosmetics outside of the battle pass such as in the store, or making it non-timegated, is important to not encourage unhealthy play patterns (= playing too much to grind out the pass before it expires)

  • @weirdkid5 said:

You guys are mixing up the ARCHIVES and The Rift.

The Rift does not add more lore.

Battle Passes in general are a very anti consumer system. Also those that say "lol it's just cosmetics" downplay the players that play games to collect or 100% games, and Battle Pass systems with timed exclusives are extremely disheartening.

If the cosmetics can be gotten from the shop afterwards, this complaint is null and void.

    Absolutely correct

Battle passes encourage people to play more than they normally would to get the most out of the battle pass that they paid for. If you don't grind it to max progress you are wasting money. Furthermore, you are forced to take crap cosmetics if the one you want is further down the progress bar of the battle pass.

Battle passes offer no advantages for consumers over other acquisition methods, such as the store.

  • @Visionmaker said:

I want the Rift, but I want it done right.

I hate exclusive/time limited cosmetics. They need to be available for purchase after the end of a rift, whether it be immediately or a few weeks/months after.

    This

  • @Bongbingbing said:

Why not just Have a section in the store and put those cosmetics in the store for a limited time when the new archive thing comes out rather then making a paid pass of the archive.

There is no reason to timegate cosmetics. They should be available always

Please don't normalize this #########. Its a predatory type of monetization that's playing on your fear of missing out. The fact that they're also locking LORE behind this..

    ^ This

There is a store system. The cosmetics can be sold there. A battle pass will force you to pay for crap cosmetics you don't care about

It definitely could work, it's just way more work than a typical cosmetic. You'd have to make it lock the head and torso if you're using a cosmetic that covers both, and that takes more than just artists to do.

But yes, the reason is basically because the torso and head are two separate slots. So either: A) All head cosmetics would need to work with every hood without clipping (a ridiculous amount of work just for one cosmetic), or B) You would have to lock the head slot whenever a hoodie is equipped.

Clipping is a weak excuse when you have released cosmetics with very obvious clipping issues in the past, such as the Wraith Shadow Walker outfit where the blade clipped into the hand during the blood wipe

Or the new Clown outfit, which, at the time of writing, has been out for less than 24 hours

@Peanits Rotten fields is a known problem map. Even after you fix the sounds (which will be when?) That map is all kinds of bad. It's not that fun to try and hunt people on a map that prevents you from seeing. A map where about 1/3rd of the totem spawns are in the open (probably a bit more, but I'm trying to give a fair estimate. I'de say a little less then half sit in the open. )

The map is problematic to balance, i get it. If you went true to the horror trope and lowered the corn so the killer could see and the survivor couldn't, it would be a slaughter. Not nearly enough cover for the survivors.

That's why I suggest you retire the map. You have another farm and corn field map. Rancid Abbatoir. On top of that, you have a TON of other maps, and new maps coming out. I think it's a good time to start discussing retiring maps that are to weak or strong.

You could even make a casual match que where these maps are playable. Giving the two lobby types another distinction, besides a lack of rank. This will let you continue to work on future maps, and can rework older maps if/when you see fit.

Rotten Fields is bland and boring and doesn't offer anything that other maps with corn fields don't already offer in better ways

Agreed, it should go in the trash

    @Madjura

My suggestions for those people is this:

For those types of people who want to keep their advantages in the standard mode despite having a mode specifically made for them, I would change the standard mode lobby a little bit so that it is individualized - so in this new lobby, the survivors can't see the other survivors (or their usernames.) Stagnate the initiation of the load-in to the maps (though they will all arrive at the same time.) The UI for the survivors' names are replaced with numbers or letters. If these types of people DCs once they load onto the map and find that they are on different maps, and they do this often (and most likely they would have to), then they will be banned from the game as usual, especially after the dedicated server come into play. Given that they have this new mode that are balanced more fairly just for them, that is the minimal punishment I think they would deserve.

Having contact with other survivors in the pregame lobby is important if you want to discuss strategy or different builds

You would have to remove that, and hide the models of the other survivors (otherwise you can tell by the cosmetics if you are all in the same lobby) to prevent SWF abuse

    Not worth it

The solution for killers to select the SWF kill option is to offer them more bloodpoints or an advantage to the game.

If killers get a gameplay advantage then SWF can bypass that by dodging lobbies until they get one where they are in together

This also causes issues with 3 man SWF and a solo survivor (or 2 man SWF and 2 solo survivors) who will end up getting shafted, even if the disadvantage only affected the SWF (for example less hook states) because their team members will be made weaker than if they were not SWF

  • The way I read it the discount will be available when the update is out, so May 30

  • Plague is garbage tier

    Get Legion

Legion also has superior cosmetics if that is relevant to you

    @karbo

Handicapping SWF wouldn't work because you're essentially getting punished for playing with your friends.

And you can circumvent it by leaving lobbies until you get into one with your friends

  • @drunky26 said:

You also gotta understand that not every SWF group is a sweaty tryhard p3 squadette. I for example often play with friends just to have a good time, we usually just mess around not caring about escaping. It's much more fun trust me. And making killers choose if they want to play against swf or not is kinda lame, they'll obviously choose not to play against it which means swf lobby times are gonna be huge.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree that swf is a bit unfair to killers, but there needs to be a whole different solution.

The solution is to add voice chat to the game

Nothing else can ever balance out the disparity between solo and SWF

  • @Blueberry said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/496460#Comment_496460

    I disagree.

Map design is one of the biggest issues in the game right now.

The main issue is RNG tile placement

For example, there can be areas where even if you have Spirit Fury + Enduring and you break a pallet with Spirit Fury, the survivors can run to another pallet before you can hit them

Now imagine that, but without Spirit Fury + Enduring. Such spots waste massive amounts of time and the majority of killers have no way to deal with it. There is no skill involved from the survivors. The game just decided to give them a super safe area for free

  • It's important to the original character (movies) and makes him the only killer with true AoE damage

Use it strategically, for example when someone goes in a locker

  • The only sensible way is to add voice chat for survivors and then balance the game around that

  • @BoredByDaylight said:

There's a bit of an issues there: Someone could just restart the game after disconnecting to avoid that. It would count as a different session so the counter would reset.

We are currently in the planning phase for a new system to punish disconnects, though. It's a very high priority for us and we're hoping to have it out at the same time as dedicated servers. For more details, check here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/63559/

Good to know that it took only almost 3 years for it to become a high priority issue. Meanwhile you still get rewarded for disconnecting (lower rank = better due to faster matchmaking)

there will be a button thats says" purchase battle pass", if you cant afford it or don't want it then don't click that button

If it was that easy there wouldn't be alcoholics: "Just don't buy alcohol, easy!"

You can't rely on mentally unhealthy people making healthy decisions. The same goes for minors which everyone knows play games that are not appropiate for their age based on the rating

Unless there are advantages that a battle pass offers that other distribution methods (freebies, sold in store) offer there is no good reason to include it in the game, and so far no one has been able to come up with advantages (hint: there are none for the customer)

  • @Visionmaker said:

Yes if it means I get more cosmetics for a cheaper price and add interesting in-game objectives. I'd rather pay a subscription.

No if it means other areas of the game will be neglected (ex: free to play/iridescent shard options) and it drives the game even farther into microtransaction freemium rabbit hole. (We have like 10 DLCs already... Is the "full" game worth $90 + monthly subscription to you?)

Either way, I want to see what they propose.

Achievements exist as objectives. Achievements are also not limited like a battle pass would be. Unless it is permanent in which case you are paying money to eventually get cosmetics, the majority of which you probably don't care about, or it is immediately replaced by a new one as soon as it ends, in which case Dbd would have a quasi-subscription model except you don't get access to the content you are paying for unless you grind it out, so like a subscription model but trash

If you liked the cosmetics you would have already bought them. With a pass you have no control over what is put in so it might be items you don't even care about in the slightest. Even if there are items you like they will be bundled with trash that is worthless to you so you might end up paying more for the few items you want than if you had just bought them directly from the store

If the devs want give more people access to cosmetics they can lower the price. This is essentially the same as bundling them in a battle pass and selling the pass for cheaper than the sum of the costs of the items. Except with a discount system you can control what you buy, so you aren't forced to take items you don't want. Obviously a pass system is better for the devs because you have less control as a customer and they can sell you crap you don't want

  • @se05239 said:
