I get why people are upset, they have been relying on it for years, but plenty of killers do fine without it. Long term, this will be good for the game. We might have to be a little patient though.
-
Keep playing killer, let the devs see what difference it makes. They will have to address the gen speed if killers can't win without Ruin. The ruin change when paired with the addressing of gen speed will be fairer for all ranks and mean the devs don't have to try and balance everything both with and without ruin.
-
I'd probably sell my PS4 without it.
-
Well I'll be asking everyone what rank they are at at the end of the game.
Good try devs. Your move!

I’ll be using it once ruin gets nerfed.
Well that's like swapping football teams when yours starts playing badly.
No Ruin main. No!
-
I'd love a "no perk day" where we all have to play without perks or addons. But people would complain.
-
*Only killers that are good enough to play with 3 perks after 15 seconds use ruin.

By the way, in german version it says something like "A sith deals in nothing but absolutes". What do you think, is it still sith-ish thing to say?
The German one is better. If I were a Jedi main, I would be comfortable saying that without worrying about being outed as a Sith main.

"If people are holding m1 on gens and escaping easily like that then does that not mean there is something wrong with the skill of the killer?"
If people can't hit great skill checks is that not something wrong with the skill of the survivor?
Who judges the skill of a survivor based on the amount of Greats they hit?

I think I read somewhere (a dev comment, but I couldn't say exactly which one) that there will be sparks that show that the generator is regressing as soon as the survivor steps off it. So anyone who's paying attention will be able to see that the killer has Ruin even if it doesn't give them a UI notification.
I hope so. I don't want survivors to know I am running it until they return to their gen. A UI notification will ruin the pleasant surprise.

Apart from a couple of negative reactions I genuinely feel like this is a step in the right direction to balance the game for more players overall and make it more fun.
We need positive posts when the devs make a good design choice. It must be depressing reading our moans about every change they make.
Unfortunately most people often stay quiet when there is a change that is positive and they get drowned out by the noise of the people who don't want the change.
-
I think it sound like an interesting perk now. Not so OP that survivors are going to run around looking for it though. I hope it doesn't still tell the survivors that it is active.

Well yeah, but I just bought Hag instead of Plague so I dont have Corrupt
Both Hag and Plague are great fun, I heartily recommend investing in both. The fact that they both have solid perks is a bonus.
-
New survivors SHOULD be facing new killers or rubbish killers. Right now a rank 16 survivor can be facing a rubbish killer who has unlocked Ruin. I think that is too rough for the newbies.
Killer mains that don't play a lot of survivor but want to do the rift may also be bad at skill checks so hopefully they should benefit too.
-
So would the post have been written by @Peanits or just posted by him? I haven't watched any of his streams yet so I don't know if he is a survivor main or not.

Ruin was one of the perks needed for Trapper, Hag & even Demo since their power relies on set-up. Not much on active chases (except for Hag). It seems they got screwed with the Ruin nerf since it actually gives them time in this genrushing meta.
I got a lot of value by swapping out Ruin for Corrupt Intervention on Trapper and Hag. Two minutes where the survivors could only really spend their time searching for chests and totems.
-
Yes, he was unique. This is very sad. The patch notes make him look weak and generic. I want killers to be very different from each other. New freddy is great but I still miss old Freddy.
I never heard anyone complain about Doctor. It amused me that people used to play him on a Friday/Saturday evening knowing that survivors would be a little drunk and miss all their skill checks.
-
You chose wisely as Hag is powerful, great fun and plays very differently to other killers. People will not be looking for Hex Totems now and that is when they get hit with Hag's best teachable: Hex: Devour Genrushers.
-
Ruin made balancing the game really difficult. I think they do have a long term plan. The devs nerfed Balanced Landing so that they could create new maps without worry that BL would break them. I think it is the same here. Now everything they do will be balanced against not having Ruin.
Even if they do not have an actual plan, survivors are going to get easier games and killers are going to get harder games. Most survivors will easily get to red rank and most killers will struggle to get out of green. The devs will then be forced to fix the balance or lose money. I just hope they fix the core and don't do it with another mandatory perk that sucks the fun out of playing survivor.
-
He'll still be powerful as long as you equip Ruin. 😋

Using "only" in that statement makes you a Sith.

I support removing the most anti-fun perk in the game, so I shall be staying as a killer main.

Except you can only speak for yourself when you say hitting great skill checks isn't satisfying or searching for totems is boring.
And given what you brought up, people despise the perk because of its necessity to have decent matches. That means the core gameplay needs to be addressed, not the perk.
- True but I don't believe I am on my own on this, and I suspect you agree with me that searching for Ruin is a waste of time.
- The core gameplay still needs to be addressed, no question. But a single perk considered to be mandatory even though it is a DLC should not be the answer. If the core mechanics are about to be fixed, old Ruin would break it. I am very optimistic something is going to follow.
-
I hate seeing the same perks every match. I also hate USING the same perks every match. Although I have BBQ on every killer I am a bloodpoint-poor killer, who needs every point he can get. Killers now get an extra "variable" perk slot now Ruin has been fixed. It's going to be a lot of fun for both killers and survivors...once the killers get used to it!

I mean they're called skill checks for a reason.
They should rename them "boredom checks". To make sure survivors don't fall asleep when the devs increase repair time to counter the Ruin change.

Again I don't buy this. My son got the game for Christmas and already quit playing. He wanted to be a killer main. He can't find games. They have made survivor so easy to pip that there are not enough in low ranks to play. So I don't think they care about new players any more than they do old players.
This makes me sad. If BHVR care so much about the fresh meat, they MUST fix matchmaking for grey ranks.
But the devs have acknowledged they are working on the matchmaking. I hope your son gives it another go. Despite all our moaning, debatable dev priorities and balance issues, DBD is still the best game out there and it would be a shame if he defected to Fortnight.

They’re giving him a 3 second disarm after using his ability? Damn, I didn’t think they’d actually delete a killer from the game.
Really? You didn't think they'd delete anybody? We've all forgotten about Legion already? They disappear from the front page for a day and nobody remembers who they were.
RIP, those four stabby people, whose name I have now forgot too.
-
DS, BT and Adrenaline you say? What about Self-Care? So many red-ranks are running that now, surely that should be nerfed first?
-
Gen times were a problem, Ruin is brought out to fix it, everyone has to run ruin, ruin is a problem, small game needs to be used to fix it...
You see the problem was the gen times, ruin was the band-aid. Small game was effectively a band aid for ruin.
Nobody WANTS ruin in the game (except red rank survivors - it sisn't a problem to them). Killers hated feeling like they were forced to use it. Non-red rank survivors hated playing against it too. Trying to hit greats is unsatisfying, searching for Ruin is wasting time (and boring). If so many people despise a single perk, it needs addressing.

And like I said , if the devs make it super easy for lower ranks they will not get better. it's like any other game or sport
You are right that they are probably not going to be motivated to get better at hitting greats, but new players don't see DBD on stream and think, "Wow I wish I was as good as these streamers, by hitting great skill checks". It is the least impressive survivor skill to master. The fun was never in the skill checks.
Changes in DBD are always done in baby steps. Ruin was always bullshit. So are gen times. Either the devs are planning something to improve gen times or all killers that were reliant on Ruin will lose their games and the devs will have to address the win ratio. Either way this will be good for the long term health of the game.

Do you guys even listen to the community? about 90%of us want haddonfield to be reworked and yet you rework lerys.(probably because its killer sided)
You Nerf Ruin to the ground just to cater to lower ranked survivors . Even though survivors at red ranks are able to work through it. If you make it easy for the lower ranks they will never get better.
You reworked doctor because according to some survivors he was "annoying to play against".
Can us killers get some love too? the biggest thing we want is for you guys to fix your maps. that's not that much to ask for.
I know I'm going to get some hate for this but its whatever.
Call me a survivor main in disguise if you want, but Ruin is crazy for new players. This nerf was desperately needed at ranks 15-20 but it needs to come with something to prevents 3 gens in 80 seconds that doesn't scare the new players away.
And sometimes us killer mains have to reluctantly play survivor occasionally!
-
High rank survivors don't care about ruin or great skill checks. New players do. Nerfing Doc just because new players struggle with him was a mistake but ruin will have put a lot of new players off the game.
-
At last they are fixing the bug were the wrong rank is displayed on the end of game summary screen. A little overkill but the bug can, after 3 years, be finally marked as fixed.
-
I'm a non-ruin killer. I want to EARN my victories not have them handed to me on a plate because the survivors took too long finding it. Not running ruin also means you can't blame losing ruin for your losses.
Good riddance to one of the worst designed perks in the game.

Everybody uses BBQ only for Bloodpoints. If Discordance would give me bonus BP, I would use that instead of BBQ.
The extra bloodpoints on BBQ were designed to encourage killers not to camp. Since Discordance and Thrilling Tremors also show where other survivors are, it makes sense to change those perks to get the extra bloodpoints too.

I don't think many killers enjoy running ruin in the first place.
I hate running hex totems in general as killer. It's just adds one more item on the list of countless things to keep track of and makes the game more stressful.
I couldn't agree more. Its a wonderful feeling starting the game and NOT having to worry where my totem spawned, whether I should run towards it or pretend its somewhere else.
-
I'd take Thrilling Tremors over both for tracking but I see BBQ as the most powerful killer perk. Why? Because it gives me bloodpoints that I can use to improve my killers for the next game. I'm playing the long game.
-
I always work through ruin. Unfortunately I miss most of the skill checks (console framerates hurt). Does anybody actually enjoy this perk? Hitting greats seems like the least-fun skill to master in DBD.

The new ranking system isn't the only thing that causes long queue times. At least on PS4 (where I am playing), there is a general lack of people playing killer. Doesn't matter which rank you play killer or survivor on, you have instant killer lobbies and to wait as survivor.
Even now with the double bp event, killer lobbies are still instant, which is super unusal. (With 2x bp events, a lot more players used to play killer in order to benefit more from the increased bp. In the past, bp events meant longer killer queues.)
On PS4, it seems to be quick lobbies for low rank killer and high rank survivor. Slow lobbies for high rank killer and low rank survivor.
Could it be that most survivors are purple/red rank and most killers are at green/yellow rank causing the disparity?
-
It bothers me that Billy, the more powerful chainsaw killer is also able to pretend to use his chainsaw whereas Bubba, the weaker chainsaw killer has to lose speed and so can't really fake it.
It will be interesting to see where the reworks go with these two!
-
There is bannable, and there is cheating. Clearly it is not bannable, but it is giving yourself an unfair advantage by exploiting mechanics that were not considered when the game was designed.
If you decide that is not cheating then its on your conscience. Take your "victory" if you genuinely think you earned it.
-
One thing I love about the solo survivor experience is the atmosphere. The survivor side was designed to make you feel a bit scared, not knowing who the killer is, where the killer is and what is going on at the other side of the map and to ultimately feel that you probably won't escape.
Playing as part of an SWF feels like a lesser game, it loses the atmosphere, turning it into an (admittedly fun) party game. Being part of a coordinated team where you are probably going to win seems wrong to me. I am glad it is not the default.
-
@andyollolloll - I think a good way to remove some of the power from the SWF comms exploitation is to remove the power of some of the meta perks. A lot of the power they have comes from combining perks such as Adrenaline, DS, Dead Hard, Unbreakable and BT. Its usually not in a solo player's best interest to just use these as they will likely get more value out of information perks.
If they took some of the power away from these, I'm sure they could do the same for killer meta perks too.
As for Trapper, SWFs will often designate someone with a toolbox to follow him around, disarming his traps. There's usually no point placing a trap near a hooked cheater AFTER you've hooked them.

Both is bannable, so whats your problem?
Neither are bannable unless done excessively. DC timeouts will discourage the casual disconnects which are far more commonplace.
-
They should make the double bloodpoints offerings secret too. Then it might be a pleasant surprise for the non-toxic players that stayed in the game and perhaps a minor discouragement for casual DCers.
-
Unfortunately your screen shot is showing matchmaking as intended. The survivors were probably SWF rank 3 at the start of the game and then levelled up to rank 2. The +/-6 rank difference is by design. (Also the score summary screen is often wrong by one rank - They could well still be rank 3s)
Of course this scenario really should only be for extreme circumstances but killers struggle to pip and survivors pip every game. This is the issue that needs rectifying. I really hope that is what the devs are looking into.

@Arbmos1998 said:
A win is what the game says is a win (Pip System) and it always will be regardless of what people say. You can't play a game of Football, draw 1-1 and just call it a win because you want to. The game has rules to win and in order to meet those requirements you need to complete set goals the game has given to Pip.
But if you one-hook kill everyone or do nothing but escape, you can "lose" and if you only kill two survivors or get killed you can "win" so it is not as clear cut as football. In football there is a very definite win and lose condition. Footballs "devs" are not going to suddenly decide you haven't really won unless you go in goal for 10 minutes.
-
And why is Discordance II and III so common? The amount of times the Entity has left me to choose from either those or a trash teachable is crazy! I'm pretty sure the Entity has got an agenda to make me learn Hangman's Trick.
No, I'll take Discordance IV, V and VI before you make me pollute my bloodwebs even further!
-
I had an awesome game as Bubba last night. Hooked everyone twice (I think), made some amazing plays and everyone escaped and I depipped. I don't need the Entity and the survivors telling me I suck when I don't slug during double bloodpoints!
