Because hitting red ranks as a survivor are more difficult, especially if trying to level up beyond the initial rank 4. While as a killer, it's not as difficult to gain pips. This is why OP and many others are seeing a higher amount of purple/green survivors compared to killers and also the reasoning as to why you rarely will see any survivor actually on rank 1 right now.

"Doesn't even matter if you are not in a SWF, as long as you pop a gen or 2, get a heal and an unhook, win one chase, you will always safety pip and usually pip up."

This isn't exactly true, as in red ranks that would net you the safety but not the pip. If you are hooked at all, that would probably depip you.

Bro, I literally just said that it will get you a safety pip, and then you said "this isn't true, that would net you the safety"

My main point is that it is easier to safety pip as a survivor. This is fine, because if you depipped every time you lost a game as survivor, solo Q would be impossible as you'd never rank up. As a result, ranking up is basically a given. Sure, you may have the occasional game were you get tunnelled out immediately, and depip, but this does not happen all the time (you may see tunnellers often, but you are unlikely to be the one tunnelled every time you see a tunneller).

If you have some common sense (know when to jump on a gen, can remain hidden from the killer in the early game), and some basic looping skills, pipping consistently as a survivor is very very easy. At least as easy as consistently pipping by camping, if you ask me. Because if you just purely camp you will occasionally encounter teams who will just focus gens and you will get a 1K.

I can understand that perspective. But I have been in red ranks for 4 years. And it's easier to pip in purple ranks than red.

The simple truth is, you can pip just from camping and tunneling. EZ.

And it's way easier to double pip as killer than as survivor.

    And SWFing, please.

IMO, it will always be solo q, killer, swf in order of difficulty.

True, it's easier to pip in purple than pip in red. But not so sure if it's easier to pip in purple than +0 pip in red! Think it requires less medal points but I didn't check those requirements in a while.

I agree with you that, in general, Solo Q is harder than Killer, if you want to win consistently! There is just too much determined by how good (or bad) your teammates are.

However, I definitely still think that reaching red ranks is just much easier as a Survivor than a Killer, due to the fact that you can pip up even when losing. And that is acceptable, as it is very easy to lose when playing Survivor, due to your team. Just felt I had to challenge some of the comments above making out reaching red is easier for Killers (assuming you have equal skill in Killer and Survivor)

Not true at all. We just had a post where OP got to and maintains rank 1 by camping.

And in solo q, you see a lot of campers. I get it, it's easy mode as killer, like SWFing, for survivor, but it does work.

I'm doing an experiment right now to see, after being inspired by the other post, and I am having no trouble staying in red ranks just camping.

Staying in red ranks is easier than reaching red ranks, as your only requirement is to get a safety pip. To get to red ranks you need to consistently pip up, and this is a struggle in purple ranks, it was for me at least when I was still learning Killer, and started facing good teams. Survivor however, see my previous post, you are guaranteed safety pips by just participating in the game, even if you lose, so reaching red ranks is just a matter of playing enough games.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2384757#Comment_2384757

Disagree with your post as well.

Hitting rank one in survivor is now much more difficult unless you want to sit in an SWF group for consistent teammates. Playing killer is incredibly easy to hit red ranks. Camping and tunneling can quickly boost your level as survivors will drop everything they're doing to save one another.

    Two points:

    • Why did you bring up rank 1? This conversation is about hitting red ranks as Killers, so for a fair comparison we probably should discuss red rank survivors, not rank 1.
    • I still think it is very easy to hit red ranks as survivor, due to the fact it's very difficult to actually depip even if you lose a game as a survivor (up to red ranks). Doesn't even matter if you are not in a SWF, as long as you pop a gen or 2, get a heal and an unhook, win one chase, you will always safety pip and usually pip up. With Killer however, if you go against a good SWF, it's pretty easy to lose pips, so consistenly ranking up is basically determined by how lucky you are with the teams you face. Doesn't matter how well you play, if you go against a good SWF you are in danger of a depip (unless you are actually good at a Killer).
  • @Shirtless_Myers said:

A lot of killers are red rank because it's very easy to reach compared to playing as a survivor. You can get rank one primarily from camping and tunneling.

Disagree, I got red rank in (solo) survivor before I got red ranks in Killer and I play Killer much more as well.

Also if you camp at red ranks you will lose a lot of games so even then I think it's hard to pip consistently

  • Yep, that's the typical experience when you first hit red ranks and start playing people who are good

  • Your logic:

    I faced a toxic SWF

    All SWFs must be toxic

    Does not compute!

I agree with you though how less Killer perks should have cooldowns and many of them could do with a buff (e.g every Oni perk)

  • I've had games where everyone wore the same cosmetic or had same names, and they turned out to be bad at the game, or were just memeing.

I've had games where everyone had items yet they were all rank 20s and got destroyed.

I've had games where no one had matching names or cosmetics, yet it turned out to be a 4-man and I got destroyed.

Honestly, just don't get hung up on if it's a SWF or not, in fact, don't get hung up on winning. Just play the game, and if you feel like it's a toxic SWF, feel free to AFK in the corner for the rest of the game to waste their time. (Just remember that not all SWFs are toxic too and they are the only way to really test yourself on this game)

  • Surprised no one mentioned human topping for Bubba yet

  • If you think Wraith is unbeatable then I got some bad news for you bro

  • @Shirokinukatsukami said:

I got sick of worrying if the killer could see my aura so I stopped going into lockers when someone gets downed, stopped getting closer to killer when someone is picked up, started healing in terror radius, kept doing gens together with other survivors, didn't care if killer could see me if I cleansed totems, didn't care if I go down the basement, etc.

These perks are actually good for the game and BHVR should make more of them. It actually pissed me off when they nerfed some of them like how they nerfed Deception to not work with QQ.

Some of them are good for the game sure (e.g. BBQ, Borrowed Time), but I think it's a shame that the game variety rests so much in the perks, and also the danger here is that some of them are not good for the game, and new perks being released can make the game worse. Just wish we had more variety through more game modes, and the core gameplay was not so wildly dependent on perks.

  • The game is drastically different based on what perks are in use, if you look at something like CoD the core gameplay loop is much the same regardless of perks, you don't really play around perks, you use perks which slightly improve your gameplay in some way and make things easier. I feel that's one of the reasons DBD struggles to be competitive, the perks make a huge difference, and the vast range of perks makes it difficult to play around them (unless it's the obvious one like Dead Hard/DS etc. in which case you always play around them)

E.g. I had one match as Huntress and I would have got a 3K but someone made a clutch For the People Play and managed to insta-heal someone I had left downed near a gate, they both got away. Had I known they had FTP I would have not left the person, but because it's a rare perk, it seemed to be the best play to slug that person. So I felt like I lost due to the randomness of the perk.

  • You are acting like every survivor lobby you come across is a 3-man SWF who know if you are bringing a cake or not, they are probably actually very rare. Not to mention that if the Killer doesn't bring an offering, then they don't know if it's you or the Killer who brings the cake.

  • I quite like the way the Huntress axes down the door, as it gives me "The Shining" vibes.

  • @KSzerker said:

Not in my opinion. This bp gain rate is too high. If it was always like this a lot of regular players would quickly run out of things to unlock and just leave. The gameplay of DBD isn't deep enough on its own to keep people engaged like games like CSGO or Dota2. The grind is very important to player retention in DBD.

I disagree, I have been playing on and off for about 9 months now and I'm still close to having all perks on any character, and I still have 3 Killers to unlock (although tbf I have shards for them, just didn't buy em yet)

  • @Demogorgeouse said:

Its not fair at all. If were gonna allow this in the game then why not make survivors move 2.0 ms and make then one hit by default. Its not fair because they can tell their teammates to bodyblock. Not to mention that its basically a free wallhack and i basically have to hide from them amd sneak if i wanna catch survivors. Also not to mention 1/2 of maps are survivor sided.

bodyblocking is not even the main issue. Even solo players can body block, there is a reason the UI shows you the health states of the other survivors, so you know who to help out on your team

The worst part of SWF comms is the fact you completely lose the element of surprise, and survivors can be extremely aggressive/efficient on gens as they know where the Killer is at all times

  • No it is the only way to beat survivors at most loops

  • My standard survivor build at the moment is: Kindred, Borrowed Time, We're Gonna Live Forever, and Dead Hard (although been experimenting with Sprint Burst in place of DH recently)

My build for Killer varies wildly based on the Killer in use, but lately I've been playing Blight with BBQ, Infectious Fright, Enduring, and Spirit Fury

  • Absolutely, it makes a nice change when I receive one as Killer.

When I'm playing as survivor I will always at least say gg (even on a loss), if the Killer has played fair and not done anything obviously wrong such as camping the first hook (heck I don't even care if I get camped to death later on, if it was a close game, and I know that the Killer made the right move to camp me). Knowing that often survivors will be quite negative, I'll always try and be positive, just to keep that Killer wanting to actually play the game in a way that is fair to the other players.

I've noticed as well that they will always say thank you as well (the ones who post in chat anyway), so it definitely seems to me that others appreciate it too.

I think it's the only valid response if you are not a fan of toxicity in this game. Simply being silent or not being toxic isn't enough!

  • Honestly I think this wouldn't even be OP if it blocked every pallet on the entire map. Like you say, currently it is totally useless as survivors can easily leave that tile with their speed boost.

Even if it blocked every pallet on the map, the Killer still has to leave that tile and travel the map and pressure other survivors to get value out of it. Definitely needs a rework IMO.

this is just weaponizing toxic behavior for no reason. Broski the amount of times people lose a game have their Salt levels at their peaks will just report you out of spite regardless if you broke code of conduct or not. Also in this game ITS LITERALLY 1v4 like do you realize you are by the games format upseting 4 players at once. When you are only one person? XD like imagine you are getting T-baged all game mousewheel flashlight clicked and then trolled at exit gates(these are toxic behaviors that i do no appriciate but i do not find them ban worthy either) Then you report them and it counts as 1report. If you tunnel or camp they get butthurt Boom 4 reports XD .

can anyone explain to me how can an automated system vet for malevolence and malicious reports that has nothing to do with what actually happened? Even if we don't know what the actual system is can you even think of a method where False reporting wouldn't affect it? What if a guy is like toxic for 3out of 10 games but were falsely reported in 4 games because he camped or w/e now suddenly he has 4 games of unjust reports from lets say 3 people, and then 3 games from 3people that person then gets banned by an automated system, would that really be just and what the community wants?

On GOD i hope this system gets implemented and people get unjustly banned just to see the backlash. Because as far as i know ANY game that uses systems like these are still considered immensely toxic and find even more sleezy ways to be toxic to skirt the system.

"can anyone explain to me how can an automated system vet for malevolence"

Spoiler, it cannot, and that is why everyone is worried about this!

Even if they recorded all the games somehow, you'd still have to get a human to watch it back, and then you'd still have the problem that it is a human making the final judgement, so their judgement will be subjective. But then the whole point is it is an "auto-ban", so it's supposed to be done without human (corrupt) intervention. Literally I don't think even someone like Google could solve this issue, technically speaking.

I mean just give plenty of warnings that it's being used, it slows him down, etc. Have it 1 shot within an 8m radius and its animation locked; only potato survivors would go down. It can damage the generator badly too which makes sense.

Theirs just zero novelty playing Nemesis right now, he feels too weak compared to his R.E counterpart.

Why would we want something that only works on potato's though, you can already win against these survivors with the screen off.

Even if it insta-downed, had a moderate wind up and cooldown, it still wouldn't be OP, I mean look at what a good Oni can do in his power.

Well the way I usually bypass stuff like that, not like to anyone but when I'm talking about something being stupid I'll do like stûpid, idk what language that is, but it's the first thing that appears when I hold down U, lol

The reason I'm bringing up the chat filter is I'm pointing out if that system is so easy to bypass, maybe we shouldn't automate something that can literally ban people from playing the game they paid for, especially considering it's an ONLINE ONLY game!!!

If something comes up and you get reported once, who cares? You don't get auto banned after one report.

I highly doubt that the majority of players that give up early had something come up out of the blue. Most that do that are just sore losers that ruin the game for everyone else.

People talk about solo play being hell. The majority of games that I feel suck are games where someone quits because they can't tolerate that they got hooked first, or the hit box sucked, or God knows what other BS reason to just quit.

But it happens quite frequently. It ruins matches as killer too, btw.

    Yeah fair point

If it's such a stressful experience why bother playing? Not trying to sound rude but that just seems counterintuitive. I have to say that I've never understood the number of people on here saying playing killer is such a chore. I'm sorry you've had that experience but it's not something I've experienced.

When you have a close match, it's one of the most fun online games I've ever played.

But if you are outmatched or against a competent SWF, it can become a stress fest. Especially when it's a team that is trying to be purposefully "toxic".

But you get just enough of those even/competitive matches to want to keep playing.

  • Yeah it's utterly terrible. It is a game about killing, and you can't say "killed". I've had at least 5 occasions where I was having a wholesome chat and the filter was getting in the way of totally inoffensive language. Meanwhile someone managed to fool it today by calling me a "bas terd".

    Brilliant system, 10/10.

  • @malloymk said:

Not much I'd report killer for unless they're abusing a bug.

I'm looking forward to reporting disconnectors and first hook suicides though.

Whilst I agree disconnects and first hook suicides suck, your comment just points out how flawed this system will be due to false reports.

It is explicitly stated (on the forum and I think the report page in-game) that you shouldn't report for disconnectors, given the penalty system already handles that, and I'm also not even aware of suiciding on hook is a report-able offense (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You never know the context anyway, someone could have something more important to deal with IRL, and simply go AFK and their character will die as a result.

Here is the issue lets say i get the same group 5 time in a row they report me for camping i report and i report them for toxic who is more likely to get ban the killer who get 20 report or the survivor who get 5 report.

Dont forget 4 survivor can report the killer so after each match the killer will get 4 report and the killer can only report each survivor 1 time so each survivor will only get 1 report.

That my biggest issue with the auto ban system. The good thing now we will know when someone is affect by our report because honestly right now i dont think the report do anything even if they say it does i find it hard to believe

It sounds like we are in agreement then, I was asking you about the SWF because in your original post it sounded to me like you were happy with a Killer getting banned for facecamping 5 lobbies in a row (you said you wanted the system to go live)

I don't know anyone that hates Blight, most people think he's quite fun and fair. The people who trash talk you for playing Blight are the people who'll do it for any killer they lose to.

That's literally exactly what I just said bro <3

  • I'd expect Nemesis to get more play than the Twins, but maybe it won't last that long

  • Do you think Head-On could go up a tier given its use for killing zombies now?

  • You mention you don't want to play Blight for the bile? Honestly I feel he gets way less bile than Spirit, to me it feels he gets the standard level of wrath from the survivors you'd get from winning with any Killer.

But Blight is the single best counter to holding W in the game, as his power negates that entirely as you'll close any distance in the blink of an eye. He's really fun to play IMO.

(Although I appreciate "play this Killer" is not a good answer to a strategy that exists in the game)

  • Yes, as I stopped caring about rank

That is, unless they can communicate with their community and give us a reason to believe their system won't flop like similar ones have in other games

Yeah honestly I might pick up the RE chapter if it is a regular DLC price, as some of the new gameplay features like zombies and interesting perks make me think it might change things up, however if it has a premium price just because of the Resi branding, I'm ready to give this game a long break and watch from afar.

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

SWF I could understand being relaxing, solo queue however...

    far from it.

Solo Queue can be frustrating, when teammates throw games with stupid plays.

However, you can always justify such a loss, as it has an obvious cause, you were never going to win when teammates are throwing this hard. It's more disappointing than it is frustrating.

Also you have long periods of relaxing gameplay, sometimes you are doing gens, sometimes even chases are relaxed, if you know the structures of the map, and have safe pallets at your disposal.

Killer however, is a new level of stress. I can say with absolute confidence that playing DBD as a Killer is the most stressful video game experience I have ever played.

Actually on top of reporting me, they managed to bypass the swear filter when they insulted me by putting a space between the two syllables of the word bastard, and replacing the second a with an e.

  • I guess no one has figured out how to play him effectively yet, whereas you are playing Survivor which is going to be the same gameplay that you are used to, apart from slightly different movement on jukes. Also people are probably playing him non optimaly (e.g. going for his tentacle attack when an M1 would be better), because they want to practice with him.

  • Are skins usually announced during the PTB/reveal of the character? I don't see why we wouldn't see skins for these characters, it's a great money making opportunity.

  • What happened to the MMR we were hearing about? That kind of fizzled out, and now we're hearing about an auto-ban system? Maybe BHVR should try and tackle one hard problem at a time...

  • because the game is severely unbalanced, unless you have streamer levels of time to perfect your gameplay as a Killer, and you're not playing 1 of 2 S-tier killers, you're always going to have a stressful time playing this game seriously at a high level

Just got a game on Haddonfield and 3 gens popped before I even finished a chase. Sure I could have probably pressured those gens, but I think 2 of them still would have popped.

Now I'm just playing Blight with joke perks and I'm slugging people and not hooking.

    • Potato killers stomp potato survivors.

You are in the last term right now, still being a potato. If you find friends and start playing with them using discord, you will break the game balance in every possible way and win one game after another, except those rare occasions when you get matched against a good Nurse or Spirit. This is an excellent post. You're exactly right - pretending gestures are just button clicks is like pretending "your mother should have gotten an abortion, [insert slur of choice here]" is a string of sounds. I hear it as an argument so often, and it's obnoxious - it's unbelievably disingenuous to pretend there's no context to an action that has a widely agreed upon meaning. If it was just pressing ctrl, people wouldn't do it. I don't give a damn that a player is pressing a button any more than I care that someone is producing syllables with their face hole; I'm mad because they're going out of their way to be rude when I haven't done anything to earn it.

Though @Beaburd raised a very interesting point about gestures becoming worse because they don't have a specific meaning beyond negativity. It's not something I'd thought about, but it rings pretty true. Granted, there are times I can tell a survivor is tbagging to be silly/to thank/out of confusion, but when there's nothing to prompt those exceptions... I don't like getting tbagged because it's a sign that the other players aren't having fun with me, they're making fun of me. It's a hostile signal and I'm not having nearly as good of a time when I'm playing with people who want me to know that they think I suck - wanting me to know being the key thing. Even if I kill the offender or wipe the whole team, I'm still in a worse mood because I was brought to approach the game with a more aggressive and personal bent than I usually do, because I like to play this game chill. And I don't differentiate gate/pallet tbags from people telling me I'm trash and to uninstall in the endgame chat. It's all the same; you wouldn't be doing either if you weren't trying to taunt me.

But at the same time, I can easily be taking it more aggressively than somebody meant it, because different people are going to have a different connotations to the action depending on what communities they're familiar with and what their friends do. Some people might butt dance at the gates because it's their cheeky victory lap while other players do it as a "haha ######### you loser", and I am automatically going to assume anyone doing it is making a personal attack because I've encountered so much of the behavior that unequivocally meant that and there's no nuance for me to differentiate the severity of intentions when it doesn't.
