I dont have tolerance for people who say your gay and they mean your stupid. Just say your stupid. Black people dont like like the n word. Gays dont like the f word . like you can insult someone in so many way but choose to use sexual orientation as an insult? Pathetic...

    Oh damn.

RIP me and my gay self.

Also "Gays dont like the f word." is objectively false. I know multiple gays who use the word freely. My bf included. I don't, but I don't swear in general.

That's like saying women don't like the "c" word.

Also, I use all sexual orientations as insults. I must be super pathetic.

    Thank you.
To think of it, it's probably that if someone feels uncomfortable about himself/herself, they take it harder. And I doubt the right message when talking to such people is "don't worry, we'll protect you".

It is more complicated than this, especially for solo survivors.

Ruin is easy to do since you only need to find 1 totem and destroy it. Also, there is a notification system that allows you to know when and where the ruin got destroyed if one of your teammates destroyed it. Also you can see the icon on your screen whether you have the curse or not.

You most probably won't be able to find all 5 dull totems and destroy them. Somebody else will destroy 1 or 2 and the entire team will waste time trying to find 5 dull totems without knowing that somebody else destroyed them. Playing around NOED when it is activated is far more easier for solo survivors than breaking the totems. Also, survivors hope that the killer has no NOED, so they don't try to waste their time as well.

My suggestion for you is that you should monitor your teammates and if they can push through ruin, don't try to find the totem. For NOED, if you have time, check the areas that are near to the exit gates and destroy the dull totems. After that, if you find another dull totem, don't destroy it. If the other 2 or 3 dull totems got destroyed, NOED will be lit on that totem and you can always check it later. If the other 2 or 3 dull totems are well hidden, you will have a chance for a much easier NOED spawn. The reason why you should always destroy totems near exit gates is because the game will revolve around those areas and you may never get the chance to destroy the totem. This tactic is especially very useful for maps like the game, lery's and swamp maps.

    Listen to this man.

In fact, I'd love a new, Lovecraft based chapter. Cthulhu would be a little too much as killer, but those sea creatures would be awesome. Or Innsmouth as a new map.

I also have some horror collections book with some of his short stories like the one about the couple on hokiday with the strange infection. I like also movies and games based on his books. I read also his Liber Agape and some tarot book. Did you see the movie Dagon ? It's like the game Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the Earth.

What abilities would Cthulhu have ?

To be honest, the actual appearance of Cthulhu himself is somewhat of a sacrilege in my eyes. He's supposed to be such a terrible sight for a human to behold, that anyone who lays his eyes on him goes insane at once.
I've seen some fan made, black and white, 30-s style silent film (up on Youtube), that's a commendable approach. I have not seen Dagon or played any Lovecraft based games. But I'm very suspicious of any of these. I watched Hybridpanda's videos about a recent Cthulhu themed game ("Call of Cthulhu, the Offifcial Video Game" I believe), and it's just unnecessarily gory. Not a mark of true horror in my opinion.

Dagon is a nice cheap movie.

How is educating condescending? Really? You educate customers, you educate people on certain topics, say drugs, safe sex practices. You educate people when you give information on a topic that is usually not discussed. It is not a matter of feeling you know better, it’s a matter of making information available to others whether they agree or not with the topic.

But it definitely IS condescending, when it's about moral, religious or personal opinions. If you know a lot about astrology or Korean history and I don't, it's obviously not condescending, and no reason for me to feel insulted if you propose to educate me. However, everyone has some sort of view on the "human experience", life, morality, and so on. Again, suggesting to "educate" someone implies you claim to know better, without even bothering to ask why they feel the way they do. It is a dead end.

Whoever said educating is about transmitting moral, religious or personal opinions? When you educate you provide information. Educating is not telling you to accept homosexuals because your belief is wrong, it is telling you that homosexuals are not the same as HIV, that babies adopted by homosexual parents don’t magically turn gay, that homosexuality is not a sickness nor a mental disease.

Yet all of these negative stereotypes have some basis to them. (This is not to say they're correct.)

I never said they shouldn’t? I’m talking about when they use gay as in “man, that’s gay” (?

That doesn’t make people ######### unless they go overboard about it knowing it can alter someone else’s peace of mind.

I never said you never said they shouldn't. I said that you should speak for yourself instead of projecting, in your words, your "over sensitive" nature to the entire LGBT community.

I think I mentioned I never felt oppressed due to my sexuality? I’m not over sensitive myself but many of my friends are and sometimes they react badly towards unintended offenses or jokes coming from people that ignore what being gay is and how gay people feel when their sexuality/orientation is used as a joke. Not justifying them, just saying that before we get mad we need to try and educate those people.

Sorry but you contradict yourself there, you say its unintended that means there is no offense given, yet claim you don't justify that as if there was a crime.

Given that its unintended, they may need to learn to differentiate between the two, because emotions don't justify actions, no matter if you are gay or misinterpreted a joke. They are after all responsible for their own behavior.

I’m saying that I’m not justifying the joke or the offense based on their ignorance or lack of intention. How is that contradictory? And how is an unintended action with a negative consequence not an offense? Negligence does have a consequence, legally.

Correct me if I read your response incorrectly

Im not talking legal term, and i haven't said there was no offense, there was no offense GIVEN. Huge distinction. If someone takes offense and reacts "badly", and the result is something unethical, then its all on the one who has taken the offense , in this case the gay. Saying that just because someone is LGBT he is not in control over his emotion is not only ridiculous but attacks their agency in return.

Okay, I think I know where the confusion is.

Someone feels offended by a joke and gets mad. Offender doesn’t know he is provoking this.

I said I don’t justify the offender because of his negligence, I also said that instead of getting mad at them I would rather educate them.

Unfortunately some people dont want to be educated. They are close minded an ignorant. Until they go through a similiar situation it means nothing to them. People would rather provoke and get a rise out of somebody then actually talk. An i personally don't have time to waste on it. An what do you mean joke??? Because i dont see how its funny. Its more like someone is taking a word and turning it into a negative. A word people use to idetify themselves with. So now am i a stupid gay...? Hahaha no.... How about we educate these people by throwing them a dictionary?

And don't forget, "educate" sounds rather condescending. It suggests you assume you know better. What if the offender genuinely dislikes a certain type or group of people? Say, gay people, just to stick to the "homophobic" topic. It's quite common that straight people feel deeply disgusted by homosexual activities. Especially men kissing. (Which is gross btw).

How do you propose to "educate" them, considering that, one: it's more of an instinct based reaction, than a clearly articulated moral standpoint. Two: it's VERY difficult and indeed rude to assume, prior to any dialogue, that you know better than the other, that you have the moral high ground? (This question mostly goes to you, @Gorgonia )

There actually are valid arguments that support the view that, say, homosexuality is, to some extent, a morally questionable choice. A lot can be said AGAINST this view as well, and no one should force you to accept any of it. But trying to "educate" someone whose views you don't even know can only come across as smug and it probably kills any chance of reasonable dialogue.

It's the best place for political rants. As long as we keep it civilized, it's interesting to know what the guys I play with think about politics. You say politics is very divisive. I say, with most people, if we actually listen to the other, even in the worst case we can get to that point of "agree to disagree"... and very possibly learn some new perspectives in the process.

Yes but you know what people on the internet do best, it almost never ends well. Walking on egg shells here and I think if we keep the convo related to the game the problem will
habe a much higher chance of being solved.

Just forget about anything "getting solved" on any internet forum. It doesn't happen. But if there are about a dozen well thought over comments before the flames start, it's already worth it. Especially if those comments are from people you disagree with.

One small notion I kind of just realized: if you go to the comments section of some news site, forum or any other place on the web that is devoted specifically to politics, chances are, you'll find a lot of likeminded people, echoing each other's political convictions, ideas, etc. Place like a gaming forum: you can talk to all walks of life, people from different backgrounds, with different beliefs... fun, right?

I say we keep it up until Not_Queen or someone else kicks our arses off.

Absolutely busted, not only you cover much more distance even without range addons, but also you got as survivor 0 chance to win a chase. Remove it, it's healthier for DbD.

    • Prayers beats addon of spirit
Seriously, this addon is busted. Getting free grabs at gens is stupid af. Takes 0 skill to use and has an reward like NOED. Even more than noed, cuz u don't even waste time chasing.

Prayer beads, while absurdly strong, do still require skill as you can't see the survivor so you have to guess between 1-4 placements where the survivor you're trying to grab is.

Survivors have collision, you know exactly on which position they are sitting. It isn't skill.

I agree with OP on that, Prayer Beads in its current state is not o.k. The only "counter" would be to gen tap and that's of course out of the question. Make the Walk more quiet but not completely silent.

I LOVE Prayer Beads Bracelet, so it pains me to say it, but I agree. It's just too strong. I don't think though it should be changed in a way that makes Spirit Walk quieter, but not completely silent, as you suggest. Rather, I think it should come with some downside, as many strong addons do. Maybe slower Spirit Walk speed or shorter duration, possibly a longer cooldown on missed attacks coming out of it. Not sure. But the jumpscare factor of it is priceless, so I'd leave the main effect as it is.
  • Pallets are the biggest hindrance for us. Unless we're using something that ignores it (Nurse, Grabfest Spirit with Prayer Beads Bracelet, there isn't really anything else), we do have to use it, especially on high ranks.
I usually manage to squeeze in BW because I love it, but I wish there was an alternative to SF + Enduring combo.
I don't think there's gonna be one though, at least not without a complete rework of the whole pallet concept; and possibly giving survivors an entirely different method to counter killers.

  • We've got this place in Hungary, near our capital, Budapest, called Monument Park. After communism ended in 1990, a lot of statues of communist "heroes" were removed from public spaces. But since many of these hold a historical significance (although not the good kind), a lot were not melt down, but placed in this park for future generations to see.
I particularly remember one. A monument devoted to Kun Béla, an early 20th century communist statesman.

No. By forming an opinion, any opinion, you risk hurting someone's feelings. And you should. If you make it clear your intent is not malicious, that should not put any relatively stable person off. Again: honesty is much better than sparing the feeling of others at any cost.

That said, I can see the topic is important to you. Let me just say, I'd never actually insult you, even in a way I find funny, exactly because I don't know you. Decent people can learn to distinguish when it's proper and when it's not proper to get involved in a nasty banter. Clearly it's not when talking to people we don't know. And those who don't realize that should be punished to a reasonable measure. But. You also have to realize, there are some communities, subcultures, groups, etc where a certain level of nastiness is an integral part of regular communication. Some of those subcultures are more extreme (if you're a marine, you can't exactly report your drill sergeant to his superiors because he's mean to you...), some others less so, but still accept a bit of trash talk. Gaming is such a world. If you can't take at least some of the trash talk there, it's just not for you.

I'm not saying it makes you less worthy as a person or anything. But you do benefit if you manage to toughen up. I understand it's more difficult to girls/women. But who do you think is happier, someone who emotionally collapses every time when facing a bit of (verbal!) nastiness, or someone who shrugs, returns it in kind and goes about her business like nothing happened?

I’m a bit impressed at how many of you ask for the victim to suck it up, to toughen up instead of addressing the real problem. Why do we naturalize hate speech and behaviour? Why do I have to learn to live with hate? Why doesn’t the bully have to learn to live with respect towards others?

Trust me, if we were nice to each other all the time, it would be horribly boring. Hatred is part of life. A fun part too. You can pretend it's not there but don't go and demand others to hide it only to make you feel better.

Why do you assume it would make me feel better if you hid your horrendous personality?
And being nice is boring? Really? Hatred is a fun part of life?
Why am I even replying to the likes of you, I wonder

Honesty is better than pretending. The "fun part" was obviously meant for trolling (hoped you'd get it).

I'd like to point out how easily some people drop "hate speech". Insulting others is not hate speech. The way I see it, the only acceptable definition of hate speech is direct call for violence or crime. Yeah, punish that. However, someone insulting you is very often just to test your boundaries. Nothing to do with hatred, just checking if you can take it. Because if you can, you've earned some respect.

I dont have tolerance for people who say your gay and they mean your stupid. Just say your stupid. Black people dont like like the n word. Gays dont like the f word . like you can insult someone in so many way but choose to use sexual orientation as an insult? Pathetic...

I love using "gay" not so much as a serious insult, but as something lame, stupid, questionable. You know: not something that's completely wrong, just... not quite right.

    Hello @Dinaqma

Let me reassure you, we do ban for communication abuse. We have a team of Associate Community Managers that are working to make this game a safer and nicer place.

If you consult the game rules you can find this clause covering Communication Abuse:

    HARASSMENT: COMMUNICATION ABUSE

Insults, intimidation, hateful speech, repeated harassment
    In-game report REQUIRED

Your responsibility in the case of communication abuse is to report through the in-game report.
We have access to chat logs and when players are flagged, the cases are investigated.
The escalation process for that offence is 24h / 48h / 1 week / Permanent ban

Note that we do not give any public information on the outcome of the investigations.

    Hey, Queen,
Wouldn't it be easier to write an alghorytm that bans people instantly? For example, someone is calling one person a "#########", alghorytm catches that and bans said person for 24h, then for 1 day, then 1 week and then permabans the user.

It would make the mods life a lot easier.

No, that's a horrible idea. You have to understand, throwing some serious insults at each other can be done in a friendly way. Maybe you've never called a friend a cocksucking sack of sht fagot, but many of us have. That's just part of the banter, which can be fun. Often, when I realize I'm playing against people I know from before, we jump into such exchanges and have a good laugh about it.

These are not things you should tell someone you don't know of course. You have to distinguish. Some people can't do that. If some stranger says something like these to you, sure, go ahead, report it. But no algorithm will ever be able to distinguish, or correctly understand the context.

  • When I went for this achievement, I killed them so fast they didn't have time to disconnect. Not bragging. Just saying I'm awesome.

  • Have you ever tried running for your life naked? VERY uncomfortable.
Don't ask me how I know.

  • Yea. That's the biggest problem with Freddy. Nevermind transition time, nevermind how helpless he is against saves with open exit gates, not even how easy it is to wake up with SC or a gen. Him being practically blind is the biggest issue.
I understand it's to counterbalance him being invisible, but the fog in Dream World is just too much. I wish it was fixed.

  • I'm generally on the view that whoever finds a bit of insults in online gaming too much to bear, should toughen up. Jesus, it's just words.

BUT. I'd say any kind of abusive language, vulgarities, regardless whether it's homophobic/racist or just general trash talk should result in a warning first, and a (temporary!) ban or other consequences (I'd love to see some of the most obnoxious players' favourite P3 character progress reset... just a suggestion :) ).

And it's not to protect those who are insulted. Things that are so much worse are going to happen to you. If you can't handle some insults from random keyboard warriors, good luck in RL.

No. It is for the offensive one. Being an ######### is not ok, but if someone's not punished for it, they'll keep being #########. That's just how we are.

Still don't see a point in making a difference between "homophobic" and, umm, "regular" (?) trash talk.

points are supposed to reward performance

I disagree. I think points are meant to incentivize and reward doing certain actions. How many would cleanse dull totems if it didn't give boldness or coop repair if it didn't give more bp while being less efficient? The same with killers, even though to a lesser degree, points incentivize to use their ability, break stuff and hook as many time as possible.

I'd reluctantly agree with the use of BP rewards to incentivize diverse gameplay. But rank, pips: these should be about effectiveness. For killers, it should be the number of kills, nothing else.

  • I'm gonna copy my post here from another thread, because I love advertising my thoughts :)

Killer emblem system is indeed broken. Survivor is ok: it's a good concept to reward survivors with emblem score for evading, helping others and doing gens.

Killer system on the other hand, is just wrong. It betrays a somewhat sweaty attempt from the developers to incentivize a "nice" gameplay. That's why you lose emblem points (although not a lot) if you camp, that's why you, interestingly enough, end up with more pips if survivors keep unhooking each other and you hook them again.
I honestly believe it is not necessary to be so hellbent on forcing killers to play a certain way. I don't mind salt, I think the best way to play is to be as ruthless and possible: if you slug all four of them and then go and hook, and they all die on their first hook, it should count the same as having a 4K by repeatedly downing, letting them rescue then hooking again. Killer requirement for pips should be:
    0K = -2 pips
    1K = -1 pip
    2K = black pip
    3K = +1 pip
    4K = +2 pips

I understand it may lead to more camping, but there are better ways to counter that. Gameplay mechanics should reward a more intense and fun playstyle, not some point system. I'd completely go for a change where sacrifice stages are longer, making camping less rewarding. If I was a dev, I'd even consider changing the mechanic of three hook stages to a simple "hook health" bar system, where, if you're hooked, your "hook health" slowly goes down (like when you're downed and bleeding out), and if you're unhooked at, say, 67%, you'll continue from there when you're hooked again.

These are just ideas, there might be better ways. But my main point is, the success of a killer is much more objectively measured by how many kills they have. If it leads to a more tryhard playstyle, that's for the better. Kills are what we care the most about when playing killer, and it would be definitely better than some patronizing, "play-nicey" approach forced on us.

  • I tried an only SFTS build with Spirit several times before the PTB, and surprisingly, the map where it's the most useful is Léry's.

Problem with most maps, which is not fixed much by the longer range, is crow placement. Particularly on large outdoor maps, there are a lot of crows near the edges, but hardly any further inside, let alone around the middle. Without either a different approach to crow placement, or some additional effect to the perk, it's still somewhat of a joke.
