400 seconds for all 5 gens to pop if one person sits on it uninterrupted. 12 chases total means you need to have the survivor on the hook in 33 seconds. Of course, with perks and multiple people, its more like 270 seconds for all the gens to pop, which means 22 seconds per chase. The devs refuse to see the problem. They need more data with no ruin to see if gen speeds are a problem. A years worth ought to do it.

looking at walls, baiting pick ups, slugging, looking up/down, hell even shadowborn. theres loads.
and yeah those have to be bugs, not surprised that it happens tho lmfao
Looking up or down does nothing in the pickup animation. Baiting pickups takes precious time. They're not bugs, they just work at ridiculous angles. 1:25 in this video

flashlights are the easiest thing to counter takes people off gens to use them but... you do you boo
How? By looking at a wall? There are a few videos out from otz and aryun that show it flat doesn't work.

alright then, I guess I just won’t play survivor than, seems like any strategy is unfair :/, well sorry for pissing you guys off, might as well just stick to killer.
Just depends on the killer. I don't mind body blocking the hook, gives me a free injure and I still get the hook more often than not. Flashlights and head on.... You're going to die.

@skynightjourney said:
this isn’t really a discussion per say but kind of a PSA. So the story goes like this, I was body blocking a hook so the survivor who was picked up could wiggle off and escape. I was going against a huntress, mind you I wasn’t hooked and we had 3 gens left. So the huntress then proceeds to down me and hook me, I then assume they leave to get hatchets. But no, they just decide to camp me until I die, which I think sucks for people who do nothing wrong and get camped. Then the cherry on top is the guy messages me (I play on Xbox) “shouldn’t have body blocked”. I get that camping is a play style but being petty about it isn’t that cool, but I laughed it off and said GG. So to all the campers out there, please if you’re going to camp, at least don’t call people trash and be petty. It gives killer mains like myself bad wraps.
You did do something wrong. You used an irritating tactic and pissed the killer off. He made you pay for it. Mess with the bull and you get the horns. Killer might be weak, but they can definitely make life miserable for a single survivor.

No it actually evened out more. Killers were overpreforming. All the way down to wraith tier. I'll be curious to see the next stats that no killer main will believe unless it says they are 1king on average which I know is absolutely not true.
70% is not over performing, its not even a 3 man. 65-70% is where the game feels fair for killer, because it's a 2-3k average.

Killers have received mostly buffs over time?
Also it was a bit disingenuous for me to say that it has nothing to do with queue time. It is a smaller part of the reason why queue time is so long. The primary reason is because of what I said above.
I think you underestimate how devastating that ruin nerf was. Its the equivalent of adding 25 seconds of gen time. The entire game was balanced around ruin gen times. When you take that away, but don't significantly nerf survivors, you get this cluster #########.
Add in those patch notes that basically told killers to go screw themselves, you lose killers.

In my opinion, DBD is the most survivor sided it has ever been. Since the change of Ruin, the only games I’ve been able to win are against brain dead survivors at Rank 1, or against teams that make major mistakes. More often than not I come up against competent survivors, although I know this is not the case for some people. There is no way that a killer can pressure survivors enough to win if the survivors are somewhat competent at looping and know to only do generators unless being chased. I don’t claim to be the best killer, and I make mistakes during my games, but prior to the Ruin changes I was regularly able to 4K at Rank 1 (rank does not mean skill, but I feel it’s worth mentioning), even if I had to play as Spirit or Billy to be consistent. As a solo survivor, very rarely do I not escape, as I follow the basic principle of loop the killer to the best of my ability for as long as they’ll commit to me, and do gens otherwise. SWF feels to me like a guaranteed escape now. I typically enjoy playing both sides, but in the game’s current state, Killer is way too difficult and stressful, and very rarely are you able to win games based on your skill as opposed to your luck.
Do any other players feel this way? Is there a play style that people are finding success with? Am I just bad?
There are different flavors of survivor. If you get a team of optimal loopers and gen jockeys, you're not winning. Games with competent devs balance at the top, because then you only have yourself to blame. By balancing around bad survivors, you give good survivors too many tools to dominate.

@USELESS said:
Actually my problems are: broken pallets, broken matchmaking, bully on the game, killers gets every single update nerfed even when they nerf survivors they buff survivors e.g: new toolboxes. Also we'd have SWF that is the most annoying thing to play versus as killer. Now what your problems with this game so bhvr may read and for a miracle they try solve it.
Biggest problem is the devs. I feel that they would be better suited to programming Netflix menus for smart tv's. They can't fix the bugs, they can't fix the balance, and they don't listen to thier customers.

i recently got to rank one as billy/clown/bubba/freddy.I faced many red rank survivors on my way up, and I thought i was really good as killer. now i'm up against rank 1 survivor teams that can some how bully, locker stun and flashlight me, yet get gens done in 5 minutes. They should add a killer emote where you don a dunce cap, make sad trumpet music as you walk, and the chainsaw just makes fart sounds. Anybody else learn this the hard way?
You're not a bad killer, is just 4 good survivors beat 1 good killer every single time. They balance the game around bad players, which allows good players to exploit the game. That's why games with competent devs balance at the top, so if you lose, its because you were the weaker player, not because the game is slanted to one side.

That's the very foundation of the game. Survivors advance the game, while killers sacrifice. That has nothing to do with why survivor queue times are long.
Except with the mountain of killer nerfs, the ratio of advancement to sacrifice has heavily slanted in survivor favor. If you get 4 survivors running commodious boxes and a map offering, killer doesn't stand a chance. That's why no one wants to play killer and why the queue is so long.

hopefully we can keep from insults and name calling, I will say to start I play both sides about 50/50 so I have seen theeee from both sides. I’m a rank 1/2 survivor and usually purple killer if anyone thinks that matter which it may.
Both sides have their unwritten rules (well written in forums or endgame I guess) that they feel the other side should follow but WHY? If it’s not a bug or exploit, if it’s built into the game why shouldn’t they do it?
If your answer is that it makes the game unfun for you/your side then can you honestly say you don’t do anything that makes it unfun for the other side?
This could be camping, tunneling, using brand new parts, using maps that clearly favor one side, abusing a specific near infinite loops. If a killer doesn’t camp then do you agree to not run to “good loops,” and if the survivors don’t bring any toolboxes does that mean you would drop NOED even if you usually use it to account for gen speed?
And of course using certain perks like NOED, DS, BT could be included in here as well. If you knew the other teams wasn’t going to use “meta build,” would you screw around as well and use some of the funnier, less used perks?
I'm ruthless on both sides. There is no tactic that I won't employ to win. About the only time I'm merciful is if you have a toxic, sandbagging teammate.

Turning invisible would definitely cross the line into giving survivors magical powers, which isn't something we're looking to do.
Pretty sure getting back up after being hit by a chainsaw counts as magical powers. Kindred, spine chill, dead hard, and the other detection perks qualify as well. I hate the idea of cloaking, but still.

Some of the replies are wild. You can't mindgame a low wall safe pallet. Autohaven is notorious for these. You can get a hit if the survivor makes a mistake, but that's on them, not the killer. That's the whole point of the OP's post, which I agree with. Balancing maps around new or inexperienced survivors is problematic when you get 4 good survivors. The pallet counts on older maps aren't balanced around looping or resource efficiency. It's totally viable to camp and drop pallets on older maps if the other survivors are actually present and playing the game, especially when you factor in the usual god window. That shouldn't be the case.
To the OP: yes, many older maps have ridiculous pallet counts and busted tile setups. Learn Nurse.
This guy gets it. When you make the game easy for new players, experienced players abuse the system. Unfortunately, I get 4 strong players in most of my matches. I can play nurse at an okay level, but I don't like to main one killer, plus she's miserable to play as, so even when I win, I lose.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/134563/why-are-there-so-many-pallets
Auto haven have always been somewhat of a mess to play as Killer. Since those maps are all pretty small (except Gas Heaven) they usually tend to spawn with WAY to many pallets close together. At least they are somewhat unsafe if you mind game right but still a very survivor sided map in general. And don’t even get me started with the 5 versions of Badham Preschool
Most of these couldn't be mind gamed. The cars with barrels on one side that the survivor can take the inside track on to loop for 5 times, then drop the pallet.
@CashelP14 said:
These "idiots" make up 99% of the player base. You probably got blood lodge which is the worst map for this.
It all depends on how "skilled" this team was. At times you've just got to accept that it was a bad map against a good team, where any kill is a good game. Also the killer you're playing makes a big difference.
Either way map rng can be annoying since it can screw either the killer or survivor. The most reliable maps for pallet spawns are mount ormond and hawkins
I get stuck with that 1%. The ones that know the exact distance to let a killer get close, but not hit. The ones that know every tile on every map. Think it was wretched shop that i got.

There are too many survivors and not enough killers in high ranks.
He explained the title fine, he just used metaphors. You're not in control as the killer. The survivors set the pace and all you can do is react to it. Picking a strong killer gives you a shot, but its still miserable. Survivor's should be the ones that stress.

Since the new Hex: Ruin is here to stay and the new chapter should be releasing soon, I’ve been beginning to wonder what other balancing plans the devs have that they haven’t announced yet. Which always seems brings me back to a number of perks (including but not limited to Hex: NOED, Decisive Strike, possibly the new Sabotage but I’m willing to wait before judgement, Rancor, and many more) that always seem to come across as either terribly balanced or absolutely frustrating to play against as either killer or survivor. I know they said they were looking into reworking 5 perks during a stream about a month back but I remember it only being perks that aren’t seen to often if at all. My question for y’all is: What perks do you expect them to change, when do you think they might get changed, and what do you think/hope the change will be? Maybe one of the posts here might gain traction with enough killers and survivors that the devs might consider it.
Ds will get nerfed, probably entering a locker or a teammate getting hooked. Iri head huntress will be gone, replaced with some crap add-on that's easy to dodge. Billy will get a stupid long cool down.
-

I said I quit after the path Bhvr went down. Like the battle pass (I know it's not called that, but it is a carbon copy of the battle pass.. so..) how things were nerfed to make it seem extremely one sided and with lack of proper communication it seemed like it was made to drive newer players in while shrugging off the older players or even not caring about the killer mains. I actually did quit for awhile too. Until recently. I watched Paulie Ester's video on the update that's coming up and I was curious. I'm just going to say I wish I actually stuck around instead of jumping on the hate band wagon. The toolbox nerf is saddening for Survivors to hear, but it's highly needed since there is no real slowdown anymore. (Yes, this is indeed an arguable statement, but hear me out.) Yet, they added a quality of life change that makes it really nice. Keeping your items after they lose all charges, that's something they really didn't have to do, yet they did and I absolutely love it. I have a bad feeling about Franklin's though.. I'm afraid it'll break the item, but I'm sure the devs know about that. The really nice Plague buff was great, it might get more players to use her now and that will be exciting. Trapper getting some major buffs is great. While it sucks that we can't normally carry more that one, I think it's fair since our traps can no longer break! Also resetting them is amazing, it's saves a bit of time and I love it. The changes to Sabotage is actually incredible. I love the fact that you can more easily predict where a survivor is going to and take care of the hook much faster. That's a fair trade. The hook breaks aren't suppose to last long, just buy enough time for your friend to escape. The perk changes are awesome and I believe it's time to talk about the elephant in the room. Breakable walls. Thank. You. This was incredibly needed, it makes things more challenging, I always found it extremely annoying that a survivor can easily lose a killer by running around a pile of boxes and a shoddily made pallet. This is extremely exciting. Thank you Bhvr and I'm sorry for quickly jumping to conclusions. While there a still a bunch of issues, it's nice to see extremely pleasant changes like these. I always craved for more dynamics for this game and I hope you'll keep delivering.
It's a nice sentiment, but I think you're giving them way too much credit. It looks to me like toolboxes are going to essentially be brand new parts. Give you a ton of gen progress in a short amount of time.
I see sabo as yet another 2nd chance perk with massive potential for abuse.
Some killer buffs are nice to see, but are extremely minor in comparison to what's been lost.
-
@Whiskers93 said:
So the distance between hooks was increased and now the devs have mentioned that sabotaging will only take a few seconds. These 2 combined seems like a great way of encouraging slugging even more
I had a god awful hook spawn on back water swamp. Basically the main building didn't have the basement, only had one door leading out, and only one hook spawned near this area. I lost my first survivor while looking for a hook. Sabo on that hook would have guaranteed a wiggle escape.

Lately, I saw a lot of killers complaining about survivors being overpowered. This is not true! How about all killer crutches? Ebony moris, iridescent head, infinite tier 3, all a free win! How about all the weird hitboxes and dead hard that often bugs? How about the indoor maps? How about the stats that devs showed that told that killers had a 60%-75% kill rate depending on the killer? I meen, yes ruin nerfs maybe have dropped the numbers, but they are still perks like corrupt intervention that allow killers to stop generators early game. Killers have noed, to. So the kill rate must be around 50%. Killer mains, explain to me why survivors are overpowered.
On a side note, I am not doing this post to tell that killers are overpowered, I get it, they have a few issues like 4 man swf, all I am trying to do it to convince killers complaining that the game is balanced.
So three maps and two add ons that are strong and killer is overpowered? Iri head, mori, and infinite t3 also guarantee you don't pip. Dedicated servers hit us all, so for every bugged dead hard and off hit box, killer missed a swing through a window, or got head on stunned from China.
There are far more survivor sided maps than there are killer sided ones. I get a red forest map at least twice a night, same for badham and Ormond.

If the game is going ok, I won't tunnel. If I'm being gen rushed, yeah I will tunnel just to give myself a chance.

Southern USA. I get a lot of players from Chile. 60 percent of my games have a team with over 10k combined hours. They know every loop, every distance, every safe zone, and run the strongest meta perks and items. It's frustrating to say the least.

People flame the Devs for absolutely no reason at all. They're doing a fine job, grinding hard at the bugs and balance issues.
And yet some children on this website feel the need to offer unhealthy feedback that does nothing but throw a wrench in the system.
Not trying to start anything here, but effort means nothing, results are what matter. Imagine you go to a restaurant and every time they bring your meal, they mess it up. You send it back and the first complaint is fixed, but they screwed something else up. Then they take their best selling dish and change it, ignoring their customers entirely.
This goes on for years. Do you really care about the cooks grinding hard, or do you just want your meal done right for once?
I'm more than happy to give credit where it's due. The doctor rework and lerys rework is outstanding. Everything else.... not so much.

I don't know, I seem to be part of the minority who actually think getting to rank 1 as Killer is easier after the ruin nerf. Mainly I think this is because I've had to switch up my playstyle.
Previously against strong SWF teams, ruin would either be completely ignored or instantly cleansed, which more or less made it useless. Against weak teams, I would have killed everyone either way (and rather quickly), so the perk was still kind of pointless.
I don't know, after the recent changes I've just started playing a bit differently. More mind games, almost no 1v1, sometimes completely filtering out survivors I actually see on screen and instead focusing on gen status. It actually works out pretty well, and I usually end up with a 4k.
Side note: Yes, the game still suffers from, sometimes heavy, balance issues (matchmaking is terrible, for instance), but it's not nearly as bad as a lot of people in the community claims.
It really is quite bad right now. Gen times, map size, map strength, strength of perks, matchmaking, emblem system, and lack of game breaking bugs are all in survivor favor.
I think region plays a big part in the challenge of this game. Where I am, the survivors are just too good. Bhvr doesn't see a problem because they don't encounter these types on a daily basis.

So we should just let one of our teammates die now just so the killer doesn't feel bad? I thought our objective was to survive or something like that.
How many times have you been given hatch? Or allowed to farm when you get a dc? You and I both know that everyone would have escaped without the flashlight save.

@Peanits said:
I wouldn't really want to see that, personally. I definitely get the idea behind it, but you would effectively be punishing the survivors for doing well, which isn't something I think should happen.
If that's the idea, why does the emblem system punish Insta down killers? Why does DS exist? Both of those punish killers for doing well.

Was playing on crotus Penn against a decent Meyers. He was pressuring gens well, but was having a hard time catching me. Me and a Jane got the last gen to 80% when Mikey came calling. He kicked the gen and then chased me, so naturally i assumed Jane would finish the gen. I ran him around that center loop for a good three minutes and that gen never popped. Jane was crouching in the corner of the map for that whole chase.
I was less than happy.

I have 550k bp to burn. Are you enjoying playing as the new Doctor?

no. i watched him the other night, he is definitely in red ranks.
I think the problem here is region. I watched several of his matches and honestly, he would see a whole lot of entity displeased in my zone. The survivors I see don't move or run loops, or mindgame anywhere close to the level of the people I get on a daily basis.
I saw a match of his where one survivor was the caliber that I'm used to. She ran him for three gens and they escaped with a key. The other three were total potatoes, which is the only reason he got a kill at all.
If these survivors are indicative of what they play against, I understand the balance changes more now. I seriously need to vpn my way to his region so I can enjoy this game again.

Yet survivors scream about killers being over 60% kill rates whenever it's mentioned that killer is weak. Odd...

Nurse is a bad killer. Even with a mountain of pressure and fast chases, she spends the majority of the game in fatigue, so it gives them time. She needs to either have the fatigue or the cooldown, not both. There is a reason she's got the lowest kill rate and its not the brutal learning curve.

Also my teammates could say "hey, why do you bring a flashlight if you're not gonna use it??". If I am clearly destroying a baby killer, I'm not going to keep piling on with flashlight saves. You let him get the hook, then save. Too many people play this game to crush the spirit of their opponent.

If they just do the objective and then leave they'll probably depip lmao. I've had to purposely bully a killer for those extra points that can make a difference in the emblems.
Also, do whatever you gotta do to win. You're not gonna get much points for facecamping, but it's a strat that they can counter.
So let him get the hook, then unhook and heal for altruism points. In my case, I was already losing, nothing was going to change that. So I took away his ability to feel like a big shot.

Honestly, if you're wrecking someone that hard, I don't see the point of adding insult to injury. Last time I played bubba, I was being gen rushed on badham and a guy was being a toxic tool, flashlight clicking, teabagging, and running to the god loop every time I looked at him.
I got a down and the same tool managed to get a flashlight save. I calmly chased the one he saved back down and proceeded to face camp with the saw. Of course someone tried to save and got killed too.
They tried to get salty, but I told them to blame their toxic teammate, because I was playing fair up to that point. Of course flashlights aren't toxic because they're in the game, but face camping is toxic, even though it's in the game too.

she's broken right now, the teleport is very glitchy. You cannot win in a chase, she's too slow. Camping is the best option.
