I disagree. While Hag may look physically weak, she can still take the same hits every other killer can, hit just as hard as every other killer, and carry full grown men around with one arm. Plus, with the way she scuttles about, she is likely very agile and would be hard to hit.

Also, OP mentions how you are unprepared. That means that Hag could have already set up her web of traps, (which is just instant death), and you are likely unarmed.

And Hag is also based off a Wendigo, so she probably have the strentgh of one.

I've been thinking, since halloween has a few timelines already, and DBD only has the license for the first film, wouldn't it be cool if there was original halloween stories in DBD?

Yeah, i would love to see their take.

  • Man i would love if Laurie and Michael fot a tome in the future

Because most things the community post are:

    • Deranged rants.
    • Bad ideas (removing SWF/X Killer).
    • Demands for absurd buffs or nerfs.
    • Demands for nerfs/buffs but either paired with strawmen arguments or lack any empyrical reasoning or proofs (nerf this because is OP, and it may be true but why is OP?), try recording what you think is OP and develop a brief explanation about it, maybe theyll listen or maybe the comunity may help you with your problem (sometimes is not a balance issue but a skill one).
    • Calls for firing everyone, even the people cleaning the offices at night.
    • People powertripping (IM KILLER, KILLER STRONG, KILLER SMASH, SURVIVOR SHOULD FEAR ME, SURVIVOR SHOULD BE SO TRAUMATIZING PEOPLE PLAYING IT SHOULD DEVELOP PTS AND VIETNAM STYLE FLASHBACKS!!).
    • Demands that are "unreasonable" while demanding a fix to the cheaters is not unreasonable demanding it RIGHT NOW! is, cheaters are a problem in every game and it takes a lot of time to close the gaps and cracks they use to cheat (only to be open anew in a few months), huge corporations with massive resources like Blizzard, Activision, EA etc have problems with cheaters that take months or years to fix, BHVR is not gonna be faster than those with smaller studio and less budget.
    • And a long etc of low quality posts

If you want your post to be listened to avoid being abrasive and posting ideas without any reasoning backing them, on the other hand try to post ideas with solid reasoning, proofs and recomendatios on what to do.

For example when CoH was on the PTB people went literally insane on how strong it was, everyone acted like some kind of doomsday cult about it, it would kill Killer etc, nobody posted proof of CoH being strong other than "NERFNERFNERFNERF!" then suddenly someone came with a thread which had a video embeded that showed 2 people could heal someone on CoH faster than the Killer could hit them and body blocking the totem, effectively taking the game hostage, CoH got tweaked on the PTB (not enough I admit but it got tweaked), who do you think they listened to? to the myriad of screaming lunatics or to the guy posting a video, showing a problem and explaining where the problem was?, you want quality in regards of what ideas get listened to? you have to post quality too.

    The cleaning people broke me

I 100% agree. You earned those cosmetics through play time, it makes sense they would try to compensate with currency earned through playtime.

Let's also keep in mind this isn't something they even HAVE to do in the first place. They could just remove the cosmetics outright. They couldn't be bought so there is not even a financial obligation.

6,000 Iri shards is VERY generous, especially when they already gave away several thousand through last month. Do the players on this forum who disagree even realize how many hours of grinding 6,000 free Iri shards saves you? And they're giving these away to people who have just PLAYED Cannibal. You don't even have to have earned all the faces like some people have.

Agreed, i'd rather get a purple outfit with these shards than stay on the foruns crying over a recolor

  • I'm almost doing that and i don't even mind the balance right now, the game has been pretty stale for me for a while and i was hoping this patch would bring something interesting (realm rework perhaps) since there isnt anything i might give this game a break.

  • I was expecting more map reworks, swamp is too ugly and haddonfield is hell

I believe this (second paragraph at least) more than I do the "cosmetics are not canon" argument. I truly don't remember when the devs ever claimed this, and it is especially weird to hear when cosmetics are like 70% of the character building in Dead by Daylight. The personalities of the characters are built through their wardrobe, especially since many characters don't have additional tome lore and only have what they were given on release.

Take Ace Visconti for example. His lore is LITERALLY a paragraph long, and his lore- I guess while slightly insightful and informing about his character (the kind of guy who gets himself into nasty situations, digs himself deeper into trouble all the time, yet still consistently has the luck to get out of it), ultimately isn't all that significant in developing his character further with new revelations or information.

Everything we know about Ace is mostly about is personality: a relentlessly optimistic gambler who is willing to bet on nearly any situation, and is lucky enough to come away smiling in most instances. But in reality we've really got no (or very little) idea about his background except that he was born poor, and "scammed, seduced, and smooth talked his way to a life of luxury."

But with his cosmetics we get a much more clearer picture of who Ace is. It's very clear that Ace looses just as much money as quickly as he earns it. In these times of low gains, Ace is savvy and perceptive, creative in his solutions to solving the issue of having no money: in his Hotel Deceit outfit he had to dress as a waiter and serve wealthy patrons for a paycheck, in his Broke Fisherman outfit- he gathers enough ramshackle equipment for the chance to make "one rare catch" of a fish so expensive it could pay off his debt.

We know that he's something of a wanderer, bouncing between places and wherever opportunity calls: in the Seasoned Gambler outfit we see he takes his talents internationally equipping himself in a "semi-traditional, stylish [attire] for Ace to join in the most exclusive [poker] tables" in China during the Lunar New Year. In his Ace Vegas outfit, after a run of bad luck "Ace returns to his gambling mecca: Las Vegas" to get his luck back. Ace being so worldly is also supported by his Flying Ace outfit, which implies that Ace is also a capable pilot- which makes sense given that he's "racked up too many debts with the wrong kind of people" being able to fly a plane seems pretty useful if you're always on the run from debt collectors. As a result of his worldliness, we can also reasonably assume that Ace is actually a Polyglot (can speak multiple languages) given he's from Argentina, lives in the US (or at least has been in the US), and has visited China. Meaning he can speak at least Spanish, English, and Mandarin- and his being multilingual easily fits into his street smart intelligence, as well as his renowned silver tongue and charming personality.

And before anybody says "just because he's been there doesn't mean he speaks the languages" I'll interrupt that right now by reminding that Ace is a poker player (information, which funnily enough is only deliberately mentioned in a single time in his Winter Wisecracks outfit). If you've never played it, poker is an incredibly social game and requires not only some pretty intense knowledge of the mechanics of a card deck, chance + probability, etc. but just as important people skills and insight into human tendency / behavior. If Ace couldn't speak or understand these languages, he probably wouldn't have as much success as he does gambling in different countries, so I reaffirm that Ace is a Polyglot based on this lore which is only provided by cosmetics.

But ALL of this disappears the instant you utter phrase "Cosmetics are not canon" and we completely lose out on that concrete image of who Ace is, and we're left with the meager information that is provided in his paragraph long lore, and a meh-at-best tome story.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2619367#Comment_2619367

I think if this was ever said, it was because the devs didn't want to bother with differentiating which cosmetics are canon and which aren't, and this absolves them from ever making any mistakes or contradicting themselves between what is canon and what isn't or creating cosmetics that aren't truly representative of the character and out of line with their personality.

Which is why I sigh at this point because cosmetic lore is incredibly valuable to the personalities and overall story of the characters. I refer back to my previously written example of Ace Visconti to support this.

I think the last paragraph is pretty much their reasoning, i think it's pretty lazy on their behalf since it's pretty easy to discern what skins are canon, at least on the killers side.

  • Hawkins or nightime coldwind, it looks so boring now that its daytime.

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

I always find it fun to imagine each cosmetic set (or varied combinations of cosmetics) as different people anyway, considering there are loads of individuals in many, many realms.

But coming back to the original discussion, I guess time is a singularity there. Time is a human construct, and considering the universe/ multiverse doesn't work by those same means, then it can work as the Entity has its own version of "time", or even just exists at one specific point and brings everyone to that point.

Back to cosmetics, I read somewhere the default outfits for each character is their only outfit and cosmetics are just adding variety to the game. If that's the case, where do the blighted cosmetics stand? If a killer has been experimented on by Talbot, then their original outfit no longer exists. But maybe only those killers up to the final Blight have been converted, which means Nemesis and Pyramid Head blighted cosmetics are merely just for variety.

Maybe they got experienced by talbot, the entity let they stay like that for a while so they could suffer a lit bit and turned them back to normal.

Maybe it takes a little more thought, but I wouldn't say it overcomplicates the story at all. Especially if you decide you'd rather just boil it down to the conclusion of what it means (no time = multiple of same character. boom. done.) rather than thinking it through thoroughly enough to properly understand it.

For example, you don't have to completely understand Back to the Future or Inception to enjoy those stories, which isn't to say they are or are not complicated to understand- those are just examples I thought of off the top of my head.

But that all that aside even if it did complicate the story slightly, lore generally requires you to think anyway, especially when discussing it at length- so I hardly see the trouble.

EDIT: The wonkiness of time dilation or whatever you want to call it is embedded in DBD's lore anyway. There is simply no other way to explain how killers from Ancient Mesopotamia, World War 1, the wild west (late 19th century), and feudal Japan can all exist in the same place otherwise. You can't exactly simplify something that intrinsically involves dimensional travel, and some weirdness about timelines, and an ancient primordial entity that has existed longer than human consciousness. That's what makes Dead by Daylight cosmic horror, and not just a standard slasher flick going through the motions, there's something more there and that's what makes it interesting.

It's just a personal preference, i love the cosmic horror aspects of dbd but multiples of the same character is one of the only things i don't like, when i think about dbd in a story perspective i prefer to focus on the survivors daily lifes, how they operate in trials, their relationship with each other a d how they operate as a team.

About the time the way i see it , from the Entities perspective It's linear when you are inside and a mess outside, time does pass inside but parallel to outside and since nothing ever changes it gives the impression that it doesn't, the entity doesn't understand how our time works and just picks people from whenever it wants.

  • @Seiko300 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2582146#Comment_2582146

I think it's a brilliant idea, and I personally believe it's the exact thing that the lore points to, since it perfectly explains why multiple of the same survivor can be present in the same trial.

Imagine it like this: you walk into a room and then walk out. 10 minutes later you walk into that same room and walk out again.

Because time doesn't exist, you and your previous self could both walk into the room at the exact same time and interact.

This is exactly how it works in the realm of the entity, and four versions of Dwight, all pulled from different times at the campfire, now must survive together in a trial.

This concept also adds an element of psychological horror or torment to the universe in Dead by Daylight. How awful would it be to see yourself mutilated, butchered, and killed? and on top of that, the layer of uncertainty: is that you in the future? Will your decision to not save yourself in the present condemn you in a trial later on?

This is my preferred thought process, but there's also the idea of "infinite dimensions" and all that, so you could also chalk it up to literal different versions of the same character from different universes. An infinite number of Dwight, running in an infinite number of trials, an infinite number of times- if nothing else at least demonstrates the scale of the Entity's power and the horror of the story.

But I think the "it's just for gameplay reasons" has to be the most boring perspective imaginable to such an age old question. Especially when , Dead by Daylight is in the unique position to actually answer this question in a satisfactory way that makes perfect sense- unlike many other multiplayer titles who have to deal with that hiccup in their story and are in a position where they genuinely cannot answer that question so "it's just for gameplay reasons."

As far as Dead by Daylight goes, this is the last thing I want to believe about the lore of the core game. It'd be the absolute greatest disappointment when there's so much potential for unique storytelling. But to each their own I guess.

I prefer a more simple take, different survivors from different places meeting each other, forming bonds of friendship and making a team to find a way out, so the same survivors existing at the same time and etc would just overcomplicate things.

But that is just my opinion, i can see why people might not like it.

Seriously developers, why? You had excellent portraits, well-established appearance of the characters, no one asked them to change. But you took it and made it worse. But why? Previously, all portraits were in the same style, now it's like unsuccessful screenshots of free models from the unity engine. Is there anyone here who thinks Dwight's new portrait and appearance is better than the old one? It's just funny and sad at the same time.

There's definitely a few people who asked for this, me being one of them, since the survivors reworks and wanted their portraits to match their new faces.

Not all of them, just a few of the observers tomes and some characters.

I unironically want DBD skins in Fortnite, it'd be really funny.

    Give Dwight a GUN.

His backbling would be a locker 😭😭

  • I dont like playing against him either, but i don't think he needs any buffs.

  • - The lore, I love horror and a good story and this game are the both combined.

    - The game art/ design, I want to be a concept artist one day and looking The game's art book gives me a lot of inspiration.

    - Variety of characters

    - Frequent content

    - Various iconic characters

    - Variety of maps ( I still want many more)

  • But i don't recall Jane doing anything wrong at all, she worked hard against the prejudice in the industry and gave visibility to important issues that no one was talking about.

  • Coming from a survivor main, they should ne nerfed.

  • I don't see an issue with the cosmetic but I'm not a black person myself so i don't think my opinion holds much weight, but if a lot of people want it changed to another type of unlockable i wouldn't mind.

  • It's not that bad, but they could improve on maps and boons.

  • Depends on how it was made it, survivors are seem as the "heroes" and are usually pretty good people or morally Grey like Yun-jin and if it's even a little beyond that they are turned into killers like Wraith, if it's a person who did it but becomes super remorseful I would be okay with the idea but if it was just a evil serial killer I wouldn't like it.

A killer turned into a survivor also don't make a lot of sense, we know that the entity doesn't accept no as an answer and would torture them until there's nothing left, if that proved to be fruitless I think it would just throw them into the void.

Point still stands. Several countries isn't everyone. Europe doesn't officially celebrate it at all, for example.

Only certain countries, mostly Asian ones, do. Still, DbD celebrates it. So Christmas not being important in some religions is irrelevant too.

Maybe it's because the playerbase in China is pretty big, a lot of other games also have Chinese new year events.

    Uhhh...no?

Recent (and pathetic) events such as Scarlet Swarm, Eternal Blight, 5th Year Anniversary, Gilded Stampede, Advent Calendar and Midnight Grove did not have special cosmetics that could be unlocked through the main objective.

Heck, only the anniversary and recent halloween had cosmetics that you could earn, and both were EXTREMELY bad.

Additionally, the only debatable thing here is whether or not those cosmetics were good, and I think they were.

I didn't count those because from what I can remenber aside from midnight grove they didn't have anything ingame that everyone could earn.

About skins they are a matter of opinion, for me the event with the best skins was the first Hallowed Blight, second would be Midnight Grove with Lunar New Year being the third one.

  • I wish we had more lore related event, maybe during winter the entity was weaker since it spent a lot of energy during the blight and the realm becomes colder as a result.

Cosmetics could be Christmas hats and sweatters and for killers could be some frozen skins.

  • @GeneralV said:

Special hooks, special gens, cosmetics that you can actually earn, and a hell of a good theme.

Though, let us be honest...one of the reasons why that event is so good...is because the game was on its best state ever, back then.

    EDIT:

See his gesture? It forms a "V".

    You know why?

Because the raccoon supports GeneralV for Dead by Daylight's owner!

Every event has different hooks and gens, the cosmetics were pretty bad and it took a lot of time to get them and the thing about being the best state of the is debatable.

The only pros i can give that event are the lobby music and the gens that looked pretty sick.
