i would also say might be the death of dbd cosidering their action and how badly they do every patch with only a bunch a good thing they've done which still doesn't compare with how bad their decision are when changing a perk, killer, map and the core machenic of the game. The balancing doesn't shake the meta and they are so slow at making changes and their optimization is the worst and bizarre. How can you make it worse by trying to make it better? Makes no sense.

i hope hellbent will do better when it come to vhs.

I hope it comes out and is really good, if just to encourage some better practices by BHVR.

I don't think any of us really want to see this game fail; just the collection of licenses alone is something I can't see any other game ever achieving.

I just really hope DbD becomes the game its always had the potential to be, I just think it needs some TLC in the right places to secure its future rather than this unsustainable piling on of new content on top of old content that always seems to compound unresolved issues.

  • @SloppyVoldemort said:

Because they probably don't test their changes enough on their dev consoles. Otherwise they would have seen that the game was beginning to crumble again.

I sometimes think they just load the patch into their dev consoles, start it up, "yes, it works", and then shut it down again. And then act surprised when console players find out that the game is just becoming worse again.

Obviously this isn't true (I hope haha), but if they tested more or let other people test it more, they would have seen this issue.

Maybe it's time we, as console players, demand compensation every time the game is becoming unplayable. Like 9000 shards to buy one character as a we're sorry gesture. And some BP as well on top of that.

Wishful thinking of course, but how long is this going on now...

I honestly think all their testing is taken up with the new content that’s constantly added and they can’t spare the time or staff to properly investigate these older issues.

It just seems like a matter of time until it all falls apart, piling new issues on top of unresolved older problems.

Things were already bad enough back in 2019 that they finally placate us with news of the Road to 60fps; but things have only gotten worse since then not better.

How long before we’re told ‘for the best experience upgrade’? How much worse can it get?

What if it gets so bad it’s removed from the stores like Cyberpunk?

Its super worrying to love this game but to be stuck playing a version that just feels neglected and an afterthought.

  • Got some more clips to share; though after 6 months of sharing clips of the same freezes, I have to wonder if there's a point to all this as the only thing that's changed in all this time is 2 new content drops with a 3rd any day now.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX7wKGO1jCU

The above survivor clip shows both the severe freeze when kicking a pumpkin, and shortly after the freeze when someone is unhooked the other side of the map.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jxdb9B_JqM

The above survivor clip shows a severe freeze around the killer hitting me, but I am not sure of the cause as I forgot to wait at the end to check the killers perks. It could be a pumpkin, there are freezes like this often where its just hard to tell the possible causes though its very frustrating.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EWpVhNOp0w

The above killer clip shows multiple various freezes when playing as Nemesis including:

    • Hooking
    • Breaking a pallet with Nemesis power the first time
    • Unhooking
    • Vaccine being used
    • Unknown freeze, maybe related to the Nea who healed but could be a pumpkin or anything really

These were all much worse in game but the recording seems to make some look less noticeable.

Hope this helps and please tell me if there's anything else I can do to help get some significant improvements in the next update; I'd really like to enjoy the new content with everyone else <3

Since Stranger Things is leaving soon, I want to know what is everybody's favorite things are about the chapter. Is it the characters? The cosmetics? The perks?

Personally I like the Hawkins map and the cosmetics. I also like Nancy and Steve's perks.

    The music by far!

I still leave Demo on the character selection screen while I’m taking a minute so I can listen to the music <3

  • The grind to unlock perks is the first thing that would have to go, then a better way of teaching new players as there is currently so many perks, addons and powers that it must be extremely confusing whats happening in game without complete knowledge.

All this is moot of course as anyone who pays for this on last gen consoles is going to immediately uninstall when they look to see how long it will take for the performance to be fixed to a reasonable expected level; and they realise people have been asking the same thing for years.

Why would anyone without already being committed, commit to a game that doesn't seem to value its bare minimum expected performance over releasing new content on an unsustainably regular schedule?

  • @Mandy said:

I will bring this up to the team - I'll make some notes after going through this thread and advise them of the situation - thank you for the information, especially with regards to the Blight skin!

Appreciate anything you can do to help our situation, but its very frustrating at this point.

Things were bad enough before Nemesis to create threads like this; but since the Nemesis DLC things have had this freezing issue which seems to always be there, if at times worse or better than before.

Now this is the 3rd new DLC which will add a killer and\or survivor which will almost certainly bring the usual expected problems that everyone will experience on any format, thats been released since these problems have become so severe for us it makes the game borderline unplayable depending on that weeks patch.

Its super depressing for everyone to be excited about spending money and playing the new content, when we have been suffering these massive issues for all this time and still can't enjoy the last 2 or 3 DLCs we purchased.

It really seems like for every issue that might get fixed, more are just created with every new content drop that make things worse than they were before the fixes started coming.

As others have said, its not as simple as just status effects - it is most interactions now.

    Hooking\Unhooking

    Cleansing\Blessing

    Completing a gen

Exits get powered when the last gen is done.

Pumpkins when interacted with by anyone anywhere on the map.

Exhaustion perks plus stuff like Blast Mine

Worst is most of the killer powers, wether you are playing as them or against them - Demo going into and out of portal causes it, Freddy when putting people to sleep either by hitting or passively, intefracting with Freddy snares\pallets, Huntress hatchets, Pinhead chains, Wraith cloaking\uncloaking, Ghostface using stealth, Myers stalking.

Really it is too much to list here now, and theres so much going in in matches now that its hard to pinpoint what caused a freeze as it might be something someone did the other side of the map.

Could be killer power, could be kicking a pumpkin but you can't always tell and there are just so many freezes overall that it seems like an impossible task to work out a fix as someone who is not experienced in QA at all.

I would hope that with all these problems and so many talking about it, that there would be people at BHVR testing this stuff out themselves on base consoles to see for themselves what we're dealing with and working out how to fix it; I can only presume that any QA you have is spending time testing the new content thats going to be dropped on top of this mess we have any week now.

Then all resources will be fixing the new stuff again, and we will still be sat here with the same issues we have had for months.

It just doesn't seem to be getting any better and if anything worse, and while the kind words are appreciated; thats all they seem like atm.

Its a hard reality but this is it, there wont be more patches before the new content, and when the new content drops all fixes will be focused on that and not the underlying issues collected here in this thread.

This has always been the way but is even more undenyable when we look at everything since Nemesis DLC; saying you'll look into these issues while only making progress fixing the new stuff - which never stops long enough to get any progress on the problems.

It's something that gets brought up quite often, I'd love a feature like that as well, would help with many different things, from improving your gameplay to reporting hackers.

Overwatch has a cool system where you can save a couple of replays locally or I think it uses a generated code and that lets you get the replay code which you can share with other people to let them view the replay in their own game.

It has some good options when using too such as a free flying camera so you don't even just have to watch from a players perspective.

Not sure how they've done it tech wise but maybe something the team could get some ideas from?

  • I saw Tru3ta1ent suggest this on stream - if a zombie is not chasing anyone and doesn't move for say 10 seconds from a 2 meter radius then it gets killed and that allows it to respawn somewhere else and hopefully be useful.

Seems and easy to implement plaster fix until a better solution comes.

Loading up as Oni and Demogorgon are probably the worst for this

    OMG this!

When I'm working through my 'killer anxiety' and mentally preparing for a match, I will leave the character select screen on one of the killers to listen to their chase music.

These 2 are the biggest culprits! Both have the best menu music by far yet also both have loud roars and other noise that I would rather take off to listen to the music uniterupted.

Loads of others have weird random sounds, Spirit is a bad culprit and Deathslinger has those weird chewing sounds with spitting lol :)

Over the past six months, we have allocated strike teams with the mission of improving the overall health of the game. As announced last December, we have developers working on a new matchmaking algorithm which we are actively testing and are almost ready to deploy. We are also targeting to migrate the game to dedicated servers by the end of summer 2019.

This blog post is meant to update you on the efforts put on optimization, which aim to enhance the overall game’s performance.

When we first released Dead by Daylight back in 2016, we targeted 30 FPS on our minimum spec. Up until recently, we optimized the game in bursts; for the console launch and before releasing a new Killer. We are now ready to set a new performance target: Dead by daylight will run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and minimum spec PCs.

Reaching 60 FPS on Dead by Daylight is not an easy task. It is a multifaceted iterative process that started six months ago and will be ongoing for months. Our strike team of programmers dedicated to optimizing the game has their hands deep into the game code. To summarize, optimization improves the frame rate by using less CPU and GPU cycles to update and render the world faster without any apparent loss of quality.

See below for a high-level view of our optimization roadmap.

STEP 1: UPDATE TO UNREAL ENGINE 4.20

Target: Chapter 10 and incremental changes with every engine update (update to 4.21 is planned for chapter 11)

The engine update was a necessity to move forward with the optimization process.

All the Unreal engine features below gives us additional tools and means to enhance the performance of the game: the new Apex integration (dynamic mesh simulation), RHI/Render thread split, Epic’s mesh reduction tool & improved animation thread tooling are just a few examples.

STEP 2: CPU, GPU AND CONTEXTUAL OPTIMIZATIONS

    Target: Chapter 11 and ongoing

This is the core of the work to improve the performance and the game’s frame rate.
There are many opportunities for optimization, but here are the three main pillars overarching our efforts:

CPU optimizations: improving the game’s baseline systems

This is where the game world is simulated (interactions, character navigation, perks and powers). We will be converting our slowest gameplay blueprints to C++ which should, in specific cases, run ten to two hundred times faster. We are also moving from a tick-based system to an event-based-system. A tick-based system is much more demanding, as it constantly pokes the CPU to know when to trigger an action, while an event-based system can enable an event only when necessary and therefore reduce the stress on the CPU.

    GPU Optimizations: Overall Graphic Optimizations

The GPU is where the game world is rendered into an image which is then drawn on the screen. The optimization actions listed below mainly affect the game’s visual representation. The objective is to render the world faster without sacrificing quality. We will be updating our anti-aliasing system to TXAA and moving the SSAO to a compute shader, simplify our shadow pass, optimize character outlines, improve LODs, slim render passes, bake more lights, use imposter rendering for specific objects (trees, grass) and more.

Contextual Optimizations: Performance Spikes for Specific Actions

We are working on optimizations that pay at any given time when you play (as mentioned above under GPU/CPU) but we also know there are specific actions and/or Killers that will need extra optimization. These are problematic cases where we see major hitches in performance. Here are a few examples: multiple characters moving in close quarters, specific Killer slow down, perks combination, etc.

STEP 3: UPDATING OUR GUIDELINES AND PROCESSES

    Target: Chapter 12 and ongoing

While we optimize the existing gameplay and graphic systems, we develop better tools and methods to implement new features. When we have a new process figured out, it is documented and shared with our development team who can then apply these learnings for the creation of new content.

Our objective is to offer a better performance on all platforms, making the game look smoother and the controls more reactive. Still, doing such majors changes all at once (game engine update and rewriting game code) is bound to briefly disrupt things and require some adaptation time. We hope you understand that this is a transition period and an investment to improve the game.

Don’t hesitate to share your feedback on our forums or social media if you encounter an issue. Our objective is to keep you updated on our progress in the coming months. The upcoming Dead by Daylight anniversary will be a great timing to give you additional visibility on our progress.

    See you in the fog,
    The Dead by Daylight team

Its way too soon to be making new promises for next gen upgrades when they've left us on last gen festering all this time.

At least give us a stable 30FPS, Hell even just any stable FPS would be a massive improvement!

We should also pour one out for the Switch players as that port is criminal to sell for money.

Survivors have had issues with uncleanable totem spots for years now, and they get fixed very very slowly, bhvr just decided to delete the collision around boons so killers never have to worry about that until they're fixed.

fwiw, I'm glad they've done this, but the same should have been done when there were many uncleansable totems as well.

Didn't see you mention this but its an important distinction - Hexes aren't placed by the killer, nor can they be replaced.

So if a Hex is in an uncleansable spot, its totally random and really just bad luck.

If the match happens to be on a map with an uncleansable totem in the right spot, survivors can choose to bless that spot knowing the killer will be unable to cleanse it.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

They aren't actually doing that or my queues would be even faster. They lie! Go play survivor, please. I want 1 second queues, or bust.

EU after about 6-7pm is instant killer queues all night, just be prepared to face team after team with matching names and the occasional streamer and their posse :)

I shelled out for a One X a few months ago. The One X is a huge upgrade from the basic Xbox One and I still can't find any PS5s or Series X where I live.

Even if that is the case, theres no cross progression so its kind of a moot point as no one wants to repeat the perk grind they likely haven't even finished on PS4 etc yet :)

In regards to your other comment - its not lag from a network connection, its freezing and frame drops caused by actions taking place elsewhere on the map.

So a survivor kicks a pumpkin in the killer shack, you as killer or survivor in the main building freeze for a couple of seconds for example.

These also stack so if Demogorgon uses his portal, it freezes when he goes in, again when he comes out, and if theres an unhook while hes traversing that freezes it too, and f a gen pops that will also freeze it all at the same time. Fun. Been like this SINCE NEMESIS! And they've tried to patch it multiple times and sometimes it fixes 1 thing slightly but its still bad, then next patch will make it worse than it originally was again.

Totally unacceptable and if it was happening to others they would quit or complain like many of us on the forum are doing.

There are so many things wrong with the game. So many. Apart from the lore and stories the game provides us with which are good, especially the art and designs of the game, it's the entire gameplay and its mechanic features and even BHVR that make the game so frustrating to play in and make it difficult to have faith in. Hence why I'm gonna list them down. TDLR at the bottom if you don't want to read an essay paragraph.

    • Incompetent devs: BHVR has no competition with their game, they got absolutely way too comfortable that they just add stuff we don't even want like the SBMM and Boon Totems, unnecessary nerfs and buffs and changes, removing things we liked (Pinhead's voice lines). But it isn't just that, it's how they handle the game. It just feels like they're killing it and just making the game to benefit only the Survivors side (no this is not a Killer rant, it's a game rant) and leaves the Killer side to have frustrating gameplay trying to get 4Ks. Not to mention about some recent collaborations, when we heard that they're getting a collaboration with the medieval game For Honor, I liked it. But we all know what happened, For Honor got some game mode and new skins which is kinda good, and no need to give hate to them. But it's what they give us in DbD, just a helmet charm. They barely communicate with the community's feedback on what to do to make the game better and what should and is supposed to be fixed or added. Not to mention they also work with NFTs and I doubt anyone here needs any explanation on what NFTs are. Another thing before I move on is how they treat the hacker problem in the game ever since SBMM dropped like it's nothing, they don't give a damn about the many reports and sightings of so many hackers ruining the game. Either they don't want to lose money or they don't want to get called out for not handling the situation sooner. When they release new Killers, it's either a copy-pasted power but different, and the moment the PTB is done they nerf the Killer. However, I think there are some devs of DbD that want to make the game fun and better for everyone but are forced to do stuff that their higher-ups want them to do so they can get more money.
    • Unfair gameplay: I played both Survivor and Killer and have been part of moments that shouldn't have been unfair. Take, for instance, parts of the game you shouldn't have been hit, you leave a Gen just in time for the skillcheck to pop up and it blows the Gen, you were almost finishing a Gen or cleansing the hex totem or opening the gates until the Killer downed or grabbed you when it was 99% (Excuse that rant of unlucky moments). As for Killer, I'd think there's even way more unless I missed some parts about the Survivor unfair parts. You're about to hit the Survivor but for some reason, you miss when it should've hit or because of the damn validation, you get pallet stunned when you were just an inch away and that also includes when you avoid Head On stuns but get stunned anyway. There're some exploits that both Survivor and Killer use in their advantages, like Claivorance allowing you to literally push both Survivors and Killers off ledges. Then there are the many loops, some are good, yes but I feel there is a lot of loops that just feel like going forever and ever (infinite loops) and Haddonfield is known for being just that. The RPD map is as we all agree is a map that's so visually good but is so easy to get lost in. Not to mention it has both Survivor and Killer-sided parts that so many players use those parts to their advantage.
    • False promises: Let's take a look at the things from past things. Chapter 10 was revealed to have a new map alongside anarchist teenagers going by The Legion, in which they have told us were going to be Killers that'll disguise themselves and trick Survivors into thinking they're a Survivor. Instead, we got a Killer who just runs fast and stabs people. In Chapter 18 with The Twins, we were promised to have fun with the new Killer and Survivor and their new Perks. Instead, we get a buggy game and a chapter that was half-finished, tarnishing The Twin's reputation and making that chapter one of the worst chapters in DbD alongside the Leatherface and Nightmare On Elm Street chapters. I may have missed a few but I bet there are more things that BHVR promised us in the game only to either have that promise not come true or turn out not as it was promised to be.
    • The Community: Every video I watched and almost every game I played had those guys in the game. The ones who just don't wanna do the objective but find the Killer and bully the hell out of them until they rage quit and so they can go trash-talking at them, saying stuff like GG EZ etc. But when it doesn't go according to their plan, they're the ones who get angry and throw a fit, calling the Killer bad or baby and complaining about their game style and the perks they use because they don't want to accept they got beaten. But the others are the ones who just constantly rage and when they lose or don't get their way, they'll throw massive tantrums to the point they either want the player to kill themselves, calling them slurs and such or maybe to point they resort to cheating. However, I do not condone everyone in the community as there are people that are chill and just want to play to have fun, like Otz and various YouTubers and streamers who just want to have fun and give their fans a game to enjoy watching. Another majority I forgot about is the diehard fans who just completely ignore the game's problems and when they see someone ranting or hating the game they go on a tirade at that person and explain why DbD is the best game ever created and that person is just completely wrong. And no, I am not forgetting about the Killers as well, they'll also try to do the same thing as what I've explained in the top to anger the Survivors and use any toxic strategy imaginable, then trash-talking at the Survivors. Then it brings us to the next topic...
    • Dead by Daylight brings out the worst in us: I'm one of those people in the game who do get so angry and rage at the game, one point in a Haddonfield game as Wraith I lost and I screamed so loud that my brother could hear me outside the house. Whenever I lost, the angrier I'd get, and sometimes I'd think about resorting to cheating, trash talk me all you want. It's that easy how this game can just bring out the worst in us, even Otz punched the camera on one match. It's actually why I made the decision to quit the game overall because it's not bringing any fun to me anymore, it's just making me angry at every turn.

There are so many things wrong with the game I could add more into this post but I'm not entirely sure what else. I think I've pretty much ranted all I can about this game. But anyway

TLDR: The game has devs who do a bad job in the game they make it harder less for Survivors but more for Killers, the game has so many unfair features and mechanics on both sides, they made promises but either broke them or it didn't turn out the way it was told to be, the community is completely toxic, and best of all this entire game brings out the worst in us.

In conclusion: This is not the best asymmetrical game ever made, it's an unbalanced flawed game with a dev team that doesn't do a pretty good job handling the game and it is not a game you should recommend to new players. Can't wait for VHS to come out and overthrow DbD's throne. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Talking about broken promises I think this is the biggest:

    See you in the fog,
    The Dead by Daylight team

They announced after years of complaints of poor performance by paying console customers, that they had 'allocated strike teams' and that 'Dead by daylight will run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and minimum spec PCs'

Now 3 years later and the game still doesn't even run stably at 30FPS and now has added randomly freezes when:

    Someone is hooked

    Unhooked

    A gen is completed

    The exits are powered

Someone anywhere on the map kicks a pumpkin

When using the majority of killer powers

    Dead Hard

Lithe despite last patch saying they fixed it

All sorts of other ones too that are hard too pinpoint the cause because it can be caused by anything from anyone anywhere on the map.

Plus there is an active thread still being used on this forum that has more posts\views than any thread ever has on here I believe (or its up there) and more than the entire optimisation sib forum.

On there we are sharing clips, examples and reports of the issues we are facing which the devs are apparently using and encouraging. We are basically free QA that is not actually making any progress to getting things fixed.

We're putting all this effort into trying to get them to fix just the last few updates atm, let alone the promises they've reneged on over the years.

It honestly feels like the forum equivalent of screaming into a pillow; kind of like reporting in game or using the 'rate you match' feature, like anyone actually looks at that stuff when whenever theres a problem or hacker - you have to physically send in your own logs because they have no idea what actually happens in game, just kills\escapes and end game chat. Kind of makes their statistics even more worthless to share, let alone balance on!

Wraiths kill rate is too high so we nerfed him, it doesn't apply to Nurse though, we only use statistics when they match our expectations. Nurse isn't OP is the statistics that are wrong! Wraith IS OP the statistics say so! *eye roll*

A lot of the playbase are weebs, at least here in Europe. The chapter is also pretty special and outstanding compared to the others, while the Twins chapter felt pretty boring from the start. The Twins are one of the most unpopular characters since they have been released, Elodie isn't but she's also getting much more new outfits.

I don't like K-Pop or Trickster but if i would have to design outfits, i would have much more fun doing it for him than for the Twins. I really wish they would give Yun-Jin some more "normal" clothes, not this super bright stuff with super intense colors all the time.

Thing is I consider myself a massive weeb lmao :)

I've watched most of the horror\psychological tagged anime on Crunchyroll\Funimation, stuff even my weeb friends haven't heard of lol :)

The chapter just sticks out like a sore thumb, the killer isn't cool and looks a bit duck like when he runs, power is pretty lame and definitely not a good killer.

Why not make the killer good if they want it to be popular?

Korea as well has some of the most amazing horror I've seen recently so its really weird to choose what they did for the game, unless there was an ulterior motive ie wanting to meet Kevin Woo :)

Some great K-Horror they could've taken influence from:

The Wailing - one of my all time favorite folk horrors, definitely recommend checking this out if you haven't!

    Gonijam Haunted Asylum

    I saw the Devil

    Train to Busan\Peninsula

    Host

    A tale of 2 sisters

    Thirst

    Even Oldboy

But no, they wanted to add a popstar to their horror game, oh he... throws knives and sometimes laughs.

But he winks on the character select screen OMG meta!

  • Dying Light was the one that made me think #########.

It was released in 2015, looks amazing, is a huge open world, bad zombie AI is still better than Nemesis zombie AI; crafting, levelling up, multiple special weapons, 4 player coop multiplayer, PvP mode where someone plays a special zombie and invades another players game, DLC added a complete seperate mini game in game which is basically what Tiny Tinas Wonderland is now as a seperate release.

Looks amazing STILL, runs a million times better than DbD; AND was released long before DbD.

Now in 2021 we have new games to look forward to which when I saw I immediatly thought they would be PS5 only.

    Horizon 2 - PS4

    Battlefield 2042 - PS4 32 players

    Elden Ring - PS4

    Dying Light 2 - PS4

Saints Row - PS4 (though it looks naff)

    Tiny Tina's which is Bordelands - PS4

    God of War 2 - PS4

I would be extremely surprised if any of these run half as bad as DbD while also looking many many times better and also having many many more times the content and scale.

Super depressing to be left in this mess and being told 'just upgrade lol' by idiots on here, meanwhile BHVR keep taking our money for new content and cosmetics while we can barely play the game they don't fix.

There was an update today? I'm kinda out of the loop, didn't play the game for few days.

    I'm interested as well.

So nothing to help us again, le sigh. These are the notes: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/303-5-3-2-bugfix-patch

For some reason it errors when I try and insert the link here :/

The PS4 patch notes only list 3 things again and they are on the main patch notes linked:

    • Fixed an issue that caused the archive widget to appear without any challenge selected when there would be a challenge selected in the tome page.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the purchased survivor to be unlocked and no Auric Cells to be spent after getting a "Purchase Failed" error in the store.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the player to be able to level up two character Bloodwebs at the same time

    Thats all. So nothing. Again.

But hey look teaser for the new chapter to spend money on to not be able to play! :')

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/292022/the-game-is-back-to-being-incredibly-laggy-on-ps4

If you can afford it you should get at least a PS4 Pro. I still use my Xbox One X and I rarely lag. The basic Xbox One and PS4 are getting a bit outdated.

No one is going to shell out for a Pro now when the PS5 is the new thing; anyone who is thinking of upgrading is going to wait for that to come back into stock.

Fact is they are selling this game and all its newest DLCs for money and for use on these systems.

    Upgrading is not good enough.

They either need to fix the issues or stop selling the game on formats it is not running at an acceptable level.

We were promised back in the March 2019 Road to 60FPS Roadmap that all consoles and low end PCs would be fixed to run at 60FPS, which sounded impossible at the time - now were here nearly 3 years later and the game runs worse than ever and not even a stable 30FPS let alone their lofty claims of 60FPS.

And before saying its not possible, remember they not only were sure enough they could do it to outline a very detailed plan of how they were going to achieve it, but also that since then they have made multiple graphical improvements that while making the game look better for you guys on ninja PCs, make the game run like ass for the rest of us.

PS5 was also not even a thing back when they announced this great 60FPS news for console users who had been complaining about performance for years already back in 2019, so it feels like we've been lied to and tricked into sticking around for 'promised improvements' and spending more money on DLC every few months - which a lot of us would not have done if they had been honest about what was really going to happen.

I for one would have quit years ago if they did not keep stringing me along with these empty words and promises.

I actually quit due to poor performance before the old Ruin change, then a combination of the Ruin change, Twins disatrous launch and the character looked laughable, same for Trickster another killer who didn't fit in the game design wise.

I came back because I got caught up in the hype from Nemesis and it being such a massive surprise they managed to get such a license, and wow am i regretting it now when were still in the state we were at Nemesis launch (barely playable due to freezes) and since then not only has none of it been fixed or got better, but they've also hyped and release 2 new characters with a 3rd being teased right now! None of these up0dates fix more than the new content they add when they patch breaks.

Always during events as well, we've missed this Halloween, last Anniversary, last Halloween, and a few Bloodhunt weekends due to the game being borderline unplayable, depending how masochistic you are.

The devs like Trickster. They like Kpop that's why they made him. They don't think about us when they make things, they think about what they like. And we may happen to like it I.E. Licenses mainly.

Trickster is the apittamy of everything wrong with DBD. Lame design, lame power that is unbalanceable without making Him OP or Useless, he breaks the rules set in place for everyone else (No speaking, plague beaks it to but she speaks gibberish to everyone) that was the excuse for not hiring real voice actors. And now here we are he's still lame, unplayable on console, weird looking, and annoying to fight.

    Pretty good job so far.

Honestly this is what it feels like.

Some of the devs are probably massive 'stans' (did I do that right?), and this was merely a lame hollow excuse to meet one of their male Idols.

All just an excuse to keep 'consulting' that Kevin Woo.

  • Has the update today fixed anything btw?

Just got home from work and its downloaded something; waiting for PS4 to finish copying so I can see whats happened if anything.

Ohhhhh thank you! So the plants spawn if people have selected the Tome V challenge but are only interactable if you are on that challenge?

Just played Freddy on Switch to do a daily. The survivors sent us to Dead Dawg Saloon. [BAD WORD] that was miserable. The frames dropped into the single digits if I turned the camera. I couldn't track survivors for crap. The colors are washed out, everything is blurry. it's hard to see anything at all.

It's depressing to think I paid money for the game given this performance. That they take money from people for this is shameful. Killer is not playable on Switch, it's not. That's half the game that's not playable, yet it's actually more expensive on Switch.

The depressing thing is that before they've fixed the issues with what we've already paid for, they are promoting the next thing they are asking for money for; which will bring more performance problems as well no doubt.

It really makes me sad to see the game being run into the ground like this.

Now im not sure if everybody on the forums knows this yet, but we've gotten some teasers for chapter 22. This likely means the PTB will be coming some time next week, which to me is a bit of a scary though. The hellraiser chapter released barely more than a month ago, and mikaelas chapter isn't even a month old yet. We've had incredibly recent content additions to the game, and yet suddenly we are being told even more content is coming? Forgive me for being a bit of a downer but this is incredibly frustrating to me, and communicates a major lack of polish. The amount of times we've called killers underbaked because they were rushed for release (Legion, Ghostface, Blight, Etc.) is staggering. This new killer may be another amazing example of that, rushed way too soon after incredibly recent content when they could've spent more time baking in the oven. I worry that we will get another underwhelming chapter because BHVR feels the need to spam the game with new content, what do you guys think? I Hope i am not alone in this thinking.

I'm worried as have been experiencing performance issues on console sine the Nemesis DLC; and while they might fix 1 or 2 things, the new content keeps adding many more on top.

Things are still really bad with no word on when there might be another attempt to fix the issues, and even if the next chapter brings fixes it will certainly bring more issues if we go by the last few years of content being added.

Its usually around events too so we miss out or play a broken game; theres been an Anniversary, Bloodhunt and this Halloween that have been freezing etc in varying degrees of severity.

  • Lovecraft has a lot of cool creatures in the universe, though I don't know how well they could be put into a game with the descriptions being quite open to interpretation.

Rawhead Rex from Clive Barkers short story could be great; I read a graphic novel when I was younger that had a terrifying design for it, but the movie one was sad in comparison.

I'd really love to see something like the Jabberwock from Alice; some kind of American McGee design would go great in DbD I think!

I haven't read the book but how about Grendal or its mother from Beowulf?

Ringwraith or Dementor from Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter?

Memnoch the Devil from the story by Anne Rice?

If we count things like comics\manga\graphic novels as literature then there are probably quite a lot of great options :)

    Awesome thread! <3

I've been recently getting back into Dbd and I decided to play killer again. Bear in mind the last time I played killer was approximately a year ago. On my third game, I decided to go for Adept Freddy and got a survivor stack with 3 of them running the healing boon totem and Breakout. Any time I downed and picked up someone, the other two with Breakout would come running and body block and the one I'm carrying would wiggle out. If I slugged and tried to chase the others away, the one on the ground would get picked up quickly because of the boom totems.

What exactly is the counter play to this kind of survivor stack or is there any counter play? By the time 1 gen was remaining, they knew I couldn't do anything with only 1 hook and they dragged on the game longer to farm me for points. Honestly, if there was no DC penalty, I would've just quit the match after having 3 hooks denied in a row.

If you stay over the person you've downed you can hit them back down again when they try and heal them back up off the floor; eventually they will bleed out and die when the timer under their name runs out.

You wont get as many points as hooking them, and its not exactly an engaging tactic; but if you really have no choice it is always an option.

Works against teams that try and sabotage the hooks as well.

You're not wrong - I'm mostly only counting it for Tomes that are fully dedicated to a character, but my Blight entry probably requires revision.

I might be confused because some of the Blight's lore was from the previous Halloween events and reintroduced into that Tome, so I think in my mind I believed that there was no new content added there, but after staring at numbers all night I likely just told myself to cheat and gloss over it.

I only thought about it as I remember the challenges being really hard on console and I thought I remembered lore tied to it :)

Its a shame most of the lore is tied to that Halloween event as I imagine if you didn't do it at the time, then it doesn't show up at all for you to read.

The ones where the lore is only tied to a couple of challenges tucked away in a Tome with other characters are super easy to miss or forget about if you don't do them at the time; I can't imagine being a new player maining Blight and somehow stumbling on that lore in game without being directed there by someone else.

  • @Altarf said:

They reverted the aura changes. It seems like BHVR only really consider reverting a change if the entire community is up in arms about it - that's why Hillbilly and Deathslinger are unlikely to have their nerfs looked at, because only people that played these killers are complaining.

Its unfortunately the same with older console optimisation; the game runs worse and worse for us each update and as more and more people upgrade to next gen or play on PC then less people talk about how bad things are for us.

Nothing really changes meanwhile everyones only talking about the newest content or buff\nerf; I swear we're just being strung along until enough have upgraded and they can cease service for the old consoles, without fixing any of the issues we've had for years :(

  • Please forgive me if I misunderstand the post; but Blight had some challenges and lore in Tome V: Unleasehed and Doors Unknown Memories: Talbot Grimes.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding 'Featured Lore' and 'Archive' in your post?

  • @Vampwire said:

What do you think is fair and how would we define it in dbd? For some people they do want actual balance. While for others fair is improving the game solely for themselves, despite the effects it may have on someone else. Nobody in this game can stop you from playing how you want. They can shun you for it but ultimately they can't do anything about it. So do you use this to your advantage or do you try to play in what is considered "fun" or "fair"?

    I want genuine opinions.

I think theres so much variety in this game that makes it hard to balance even if it was a perfect world an MMR matched people with exactly the same rating players.

How do you balance between solo and SWF, between Trapper with yellow rarity and below addons or Honing Stone and the Iri that opens a trap every 30 seconds.

Add in the RNG of the maps, and the maps being better or worse for survivor\killer, or even depending on the killer\map combination.

I definitely think there lots of room to improve but when you take all the factors into account, it almost seems impossible to truly make most games feel fair y'know?

  • Also had this happen on PS4 and if its any use I did record the gameplay. Happy to share or check it back to look for anything that you think might help.

  • I almost exclusively play Feng as survivor so I've always kind of wanted a 'GamerFace' so I could use it when playing the killer.

I think whichever my main survivor was I feel having something on the killer side related to them would be pretty cool.

  • @catnip18 said:

I have been stuck in lower MMR for a while now and I cant get out. If the killer finds me first I typically loop them for 3-4 gens until im hooked and face camped. If the killer doesnt find me first my teammates go down in less than 10 seconds every time and then everyone but me is on death hook or dead before 2 gens are done. With the key changes (I think they're good but in this one instance they're causing me to be stuck) I cant even wait for hatch. I'm currently at 43 loses in a row for solo queue because this exact thing happens over and over and I cant figure out how to solve it. Does anyone have any tips?

A tip I found for the case where you are the last survivor, ignore the hatch as it doesn't affect your MMR.

You want to get as close as you stealthily can to one of the doors, wait for them to check it and walk away.

If you walk up to the switch and hold the bar for about a second, until the progress bar is just around the 'N' in 'Open' and then let go and the first light should not have come on.

Then walk somewhere they wont see you when they come back to check the exit again, and as soon as they head away to the other again get on the switch.

That's probably your best chance in that situation and you just have to hope there's enough distance between the doors to have time.

It's worked for me often so I hope it works for you too :)

  • @Pulsar said:

I've noticed Dead Hard validation will reliably freeze the game.

    Just a heads-up.

Is this when playing as killer, survivor or both?

  • @SilentShepherd said:

First off, I bought DBD and have only played Michael Myers exclusively, so I don't have perks from other killers. I use No One Escapes Death. But after games, survivors always say "noed myers" or something like that. I don't get it, is Noed bad or good? I suspect they are saying I had a good perk on. Honestly, I don't feel like it's that good. I consistently feel underpowered throughout the match. Especially when I see killers like The Doctor....

Next, I think Michael Myers sucks. And this is sad for me, because Michael Myers is the ONLY reason I bought DBD and his Halloween DLC. My only hope is that Jason Vorhees comes to DBD, so I can switch to Jason main. I understand "The Evil Within" perk wants to re-create the spooky jump scares when Michael is staring at someone.. and I'd say that's cool. But I am completely reliant on EW.... to be honest... because the rest of his perk kit sucks, and he has no abilities.

For example, this "Obsession" perk stuff is bad. One of Myers' unique perks, is you get 1 coin for chasing and letting your obsession get away, but then immediately lose the coin if you swing a basic attack?!? Like what. None of the obsession perks are worth using in my opinion. What a trash perk system for Myers. I understand they are trying to fit the Halloween Lore into his kit, but his kit suffers due to it. The Evil Within is good though. Rank 1 EW makes me so stealthy, I can literally walk up to a survivor doing a generator and grab them. Sometimes I intentionally don't get out of EW1 until I grab someone and hook them to begin the chaos, then I start going to EW2. So, basically, from Myer's core kit, I rely entirely on Evil Within. Because Obsession sucks.

Last thing. Flashlights. I have played a couple of games where survivors just chain stunned me with the flashlights, preventing me from hooking anyone. You can look down or away if you want, but as soon as you do the animation to pick up a downed player, you get stunned. It sucked. Flashlights OP in the right survivor group.

I wanted to suggest something based on you saying that you really enjoy the stealth aspect of EW1.

Myers has a yellow rarity addon called Dead Rabbit which lowers the range of the heartbeat that the survivors hear; and you can couple this with the Doctor perk Monitor and Abuse to further lower your heartbeat range when you aren't chasing someone - this gives him a really similar feel to EW1 but you don't get the negatives like slower movement speed and reduced lunge that come with EW1.

I like to pair it either with an addon that makes stalking increase faster so you can use the EW3 power more often, or the Mirror\Glass addons that show survivor auras when you stalk them for at least 1 second using EW2, which makes them easier to see what they are doing.

When it comes to chasing, a good rule of thumb I heard was to try and get either a hit or a pallet drop within say 30 seconds of starting the chase, and if not try and find someone else who is out of position and an easier target.

If a survivor drops a pallet and runs far away or to a really strong area then just break the pallet and look for someone else - later when you are chasing someone and come back through the area, the pallet will be gone and they will not make it to another without you getting a chance to hit them.

Please forgive me if you already know this, but there are right and wrong paths to take when chasing around buildings and window vaults etc which can make the difference between a survivor being able to use the same path multiple times or not. There are directions to herd the survivor that can create opportunities for you to get a hit, such as forcing them to vault a window from an angle which can give a slower vault animation than if they run head on at it; and the slower animation has a sort of lingering hit box that you can still hit when they are the other side of the window stuck in the animation.

A really useful advanced technique to learn for Myers is how to use the red light that survivors can see to tell where the killer is looking, to confuse the survivor and hopefully make them make a mistake. There are many many great content creators on YouTube who do a good job of showing and explaining these strategies.

I wont link anything here and let you find your own preference, but search 'Red Glow Mindgame' and 'Killer Tile Guide' to get started, theres a lot of little tricks and techniques you can learn that really increase the effectiveness of 'normal' killers like Myers who have a very basic walk and hit playstyle and power.

I hope some of this is helpful and hope I haven't explained things you already knew <3

Usually, if you pay attention, the hacker themselves would do something that exposes them. Generally, speed hacking or self hooking. Or maybe infinite dead hard.

If you don't notice anything, you will just have to trust the system.

    Thank you :) <3

  • @Bwsted said:

In theory, you're safe. However, there was a killer streamer who got banned because a hacker loaded into the match as a second killer. They posted the vod here. They later got unbanned, but it was tragic and hilarious.

When in doubt, record and always report, even if you can't get a video.

How would I know which player(s) to report out the 3 other survivors?

I really don't know why the video feature didn't work, as I often record games via PS4 no problem.

For some reason the recording only starts at the end of the match on the scoreboard with the player names; it didn't even record the grade result etc, really weird.

  • Tough one but kind of no?

I missed the part where it still had the exposed status effect. I forgot to add that in the text

I think the exposed part is the most important bit, as its one of the few ways a killer can still feel like a threat once the gates are open.

I would gladly take the exposed over the speed boost if I had to choose, don't know about you all?

It sucks to be on a team with someone who DCs as the rest of you are easy kills now.

It just gives the killer what they want - a player out the game asap so the rest are easy pickings.

I guess everyone could DC but then everyone loses; both points and everyone's time.

I'm pretty sure the datamined information pointed out that everyone starts out at a 1100~ baseline with a soft cap of 1900 and a hard cap of 3000.

So in those cases if you are 1900~ and theres a group of 1100 newbies, and a group of 800 'bad' survivors, you at 1900 are going to get the 1100 group because they are closer to your rating. Even though technically the lower rank survivors know how to play the game 'better' than the 1100 group, they just never escape or don't care about escaping.

And, when am I supposed to do bones?

In a close match, you literally don't have time. NOED needs a change to stop it from punishing Solo Q Survivors who cleansed 4/5 totems.

With all respect, its the survivors that dictate the pace of the game. Corrupt Intervention is not really used in competitive DbD for example because all 4 survivors are just ghosts until it runs out because its almost impossible to find them if they aren't trying to do gens and don't want to be found.

At least dull totems can't move around or hide in lockers for an infinite amount of time as long as they move enough to avoid the afk crows, right? ;P
