    Hello everyone,

today I would love to get some informations from you and your playstyle when you notice you get tunneld.

Often I try to understand both sides in DbD but around this topic I won´t get the right grip.

Often people claim that it is impossible to do something if the Killer goes for you when you got unhooked. But… what are you doing with all the time you get endurance and speed buff? I really don´t get it. In my honest opinion 10 seconds are more than enough time to get to the next loop, pallet or window.

Even if you get hit off hook you get an even bigger speed boost and head start so you could reach safety or do I miss something again?

If you don´t manage to get to a loop in 10 seconds… what are you doing in that time? Or is that the same I saw in 2v8 when Survivors getting hit faster than I can blink by the same M1 Killer?

    Please I really wanna know…

Just try to waste as much time as possible for the team, try to fake loops with the intention that I’m aiming to run to one of the safer structures like shack or main building using the speed boost from getting hit if needed. Or to the furthest corner away from gens/team as possible, so sometimes killers will just drop chase.

  • Yea just like 1v4 except double the players and im still the only one doing a gen most of the time 😭

  • Depends really. If the other survivors are still trying I’ll carry on but prioritise the bot. If they wanna farm I’ll sometimes do that. Sometimes I think we all just wanna get to a normal game asap so just end it quick.

It's enough to tell them that they need to investigate further, if people do answer that.

If, on this preliminary question, no one bothers to give this answer, then there's no reason for anyone to fret about it because evidently no one cares.

I wonder if anyone’s tried choosing that option? For all we know there might be follow-up questions in that survey even depending on what option you pick.

When they do regular surveys like the recent one, they only usually ask about the most recent perks/powers etc so there’s not really anyway they are collecting feedback on older stuff outside of social media and the forums like with Myers rework or pallet density. I guess people can put what they want in the box at the end but due to how people can put anything there probably isn’t many saying the same thing like Blight too strong/Trapper too weak etc.

I don't think those streaks should even be possible unless an equally skilled survivor-player/team can do the same, which I've never seen. Not those sort of numbers anyway. If both can be possible at the same time, then it's fine. Then it's balanced. I think S tiers need some nerfs but not because of streamers. I'd like to see Ss become As and Ds become Cs and killers be more even, just different.

The top tier performers (especially streamers, who already sadly dictate this game's direction) are an example I hate. I don't think the game should be balanced around its mystical, magical 1% that always comes up. It should be balanced around the majority, which is probably the middle two brackets of MMR. Whatever changes come, if they're so amazingly skilled, they should be the ones to adjust. That applies to both roles.

If they shouldn’t balance around those streamers etc, how can they stop those streaks without nerfing things and hurting the rest of the playerbase though?

As you say it’s a minority that can play to the level to get those streaks, most players aren’t able to do that even with Nurse Blight Ghoul etc.

  • Wanted to add something to this.
Just experienced this one Red Forest (Huntress map) with Singularity when I wasn’t even near the doors, but looking through a camera positioned on the exit gate wall above the switch.

Yes tapping for a tenth of a second during chase was unhealthy and removed

This is the entirety of what "gen tapping" was. Anything else, ie "outside of chase" is just stopping regression because you're working on the gen.

I didn't say anything about Krasue so I'm not sure where that's coming from.

I'm literally just saying that gen tapping isn't "slightly longer", it's completely gone.

Gen tapping stopped Gen regression. You can’t tell people still stop Gen regression it just takes a couple seconds. It is not gone it just isn’t unhealthy anymore. It’s still faster than a lot of killer actions and there’s only one of them against 4.

  • @Pulsar said:

They arent out to get you lol.

The Killer powers being unbalanced could just as easily be used to talk about the powers being too weak, or Killers being addon dependant.

That’s a great point actually. One person could uninstall because their killer power feels too weak, second could uninstall because some killer powers feel too strong to go against. Theres no way of knowing from that vague question response wether its one or the other, or which killer power of of 41 they might be referring to.

  • @jamally093 said:

It's an event and people still tunnel and slug...YOUR NOT IN A CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WHY SWEAT. Also a 3k still counts as a win no reason to slug when people are left.

It’s the same on both sides tbh. I’ve seen the complaints and been on the receiving end of tunnelling full metal Ghouls who never interact with the event; so I’ve been playing Springtrap with all aura perks so no gen regression, going into void and kicking pumpkins, meanwhile the survivors mostly never go into the void and just smash gens out then leave and I’m lucky to get 1k because I’m spreading hooks.

I think people should try and match the other teams energy, so if one side is not playing hard then they should reign it in a bit. Of course you can’t tell people how to play and they’re gonna do what they want though 🤷

the spreadsheet developers can easily over buff this mechanic making the game into a nightmare for killers who don't want to slug but have to when they go against a competent SWF.

Then it will again get nerfed. Fog vials made it out of the ptb and were obliterated less than two weeks later, and for pretty ridiculous reasons. We're probably about to see the pallet density change get nerfed too. They won't hesitate to destroy and dismantle at any point.

But I'm super tired of these SWAT teams being the permanent example of all problems. They're not the majority, and if they can use the mechanics to win, then they deserve their win. It's okay if your opponenet wins sometimes.

Well, that a really intersting and odd example but I know what the term means. I'm saying it doesn't apply to things that have yet to pass.

Does the same apply to killers as SWAT teams then? So the arguement about streamers who play the game for a job getting kill streaks with certain killers is ok and they should deserve to win because they’re using the mechanics and aren’t the majority? Because people love to throw that around as a reason to blanket nerf killers at every level.

  • Dunno what you’re talking about here it makes no sense. No one’s saying those things weren’t changed, we’re discussing the changes lol.

Youve just said how those things can still be used so that means they aren’t gutted. Yes you can still block with OTR for an insanely long time, you can still stop gen regression in a matter of seconds such as while killer is breaking a pallet, and Distortion will still hide your aura if you aren’t ratting all game.

Fog vials don’t perform their function so have the most arguement to be called gutted. As they went from a free escape to basically useless something being useless is gutted.

    @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4021629#Comment_4021629

This is exactly what I mean. They had these critical reasons to be changed, but apparently, they never actually did that?

OTR can still be used to bodyblock to your heart's content, you can still gen-tap mid-chase to stop regression, and Distortion still hides your aura all match long.

Ironically, Fog Vials fit your definition of 'gutted' the least.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4021629#Comment_4021629

Gen tapping taking a couple of extra seconds is not significantly different.

    Uh, no.

Gen tapping was completely deleted and removed. It is currently physically impossible to stop regression during chase unless the killer actively allows it.

That's what the complaints for "gen tapping" were in their entirety: people stopping for a tenth of a second to stop regression while in chase.

That is completely, 100% gone due to anti gen tap.

Yes tapping for a tenth of a second during chase was unhealthy and removed, you can still stop regression same as before it just takes a couple seconds which is reasonable. It’s still faster than Trapper setting a trap. It was changed to be more reasonable not gutted.

I wouldn’t say Krasue is gutted because they added some time to her pallet scamper, even though you can’t use it on every pallet anymore.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4021266#Comment_4021266

Hold on, so you're saying 'They weren't gutted, they were just changed to have minimal effect on gameplay'?

What do you think 'gutted' means?

Gutted means changed so the gameplay has significantly changed or is no longer possible.
40 seconds of endurance from OTR still functions the same as before.
Gen tapping taking a couple of extra seconds is not significantly different.
Distortion performing the same function but being changed in a healthy way to obtain charges is not gutted.

Fog vials were gutted, Skull Merchant was gutted. Those things do not perform their function any more.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4021182#Comment_4021182

If something has 'minimal effect on gameplay', that's not something that has a 'good reason' to change. That's what 'minimal impact' means.

It's trying to have your cake and eat it too, simultaneously overselling and underselling their value.

    You aren’t understanding.
They have a minimal effect on gameplay after the changes, and were changed because of how they affected gameplay prior to those changes which was not minimal.

  • I think something like Grim Embrace would be better as it couldnt be abused and will still have the effect of giving you a few seconds to get to a gen to pressure. That was the issue with the haste and Pop effect before, that M1 killers couldn’t do anything with it so it wouldn’t change anything.
I think something that blocked the most progressed gen for 5 seconds or something along those lines would be more beneficial. It’s not giving aura reading on survivors that would be strong on S tiers, but would still give you a direction to go and some time to get there.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4020795#Comment_4020795

I don’t know about what they said, just pointing out that those things were changed for good reasons not because they were ‘unfun’, and that they weren’t completely ‘gutted’ but had a minimal effect on gameplay.

'Good reason' and 'minimal effect on gameplay'?

One of the two, because you can't have both.

Of course you can - they had too much of an impact on gameplay in a negative way and were changed so now they do not and are more reasonable. You can still play the game in exactly the same way they just don’t so heavily impact gameplay.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4020708#Comment_4020708

In other words: They're perfect examples of exactly what CoffeeCrashing claimed did not happen/exist.

I don’t know about what they said, just pointing out that those things were changed for good reasons not because they were ‘unfun’, and that they weren’t completely ‘gutted’ but had a minimal effect on gameplay.
Gen tapping takes a couple seconds longer, OTR is still insanely good at half its original numbers, Distortion still does the same thing but requires playing the game to activate.

Theres definitely an argument to be made they went too hard on Fog Vials in true BHVR fashion and could’ve tried smaller changes first to see how they were with charges first before changing anything else. It’s just weird to see it on a survivor thing as usually that’s the reaction to killer stuff, like straight up deleting part of Chucky’s kit without trying anything else. Though that seems to have changed with how they’ve handled Ghoul and Krasue by making smaller changes over time rather than going way too far and having to buff something back up later.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4020678#Comment_4020678

This game is balanced around the existence of tunneling.

If it was balanced, you wouldn't see winstreaks in the hundreds across the board.

There's zero reason for killers to purposely make bad game decisions for the sake of survivor fun, when there's zero expectations for survivors to purposely make bad game decisions for the sake of killer fun.

No, because when killers find something 'unfun', it gets axed from the game. Gen tapping, fog vials, aura blocking, hell, we even got OTR gutted just recently because killers didn't like survivors 'weaponising' the perk. And now medkit add-ons are on the chopping block, too.

'There's zero expectation', because it's all been taken care of. It's gone so far down the barrel that there've been killer complaints about survivors running away and survivors not running away, practically contemporaneously.

How much more does survivor gameplay need to be flattened, and how much worse do they need to get before killers stop trotting out the 'I can't win, fix it' argument whenever any modicum of attention is given to a problem that's been kicked down the road for nine years?

The reason the survivor complaint is so prominent is because it's not getting fixed.

The reason killer complaints aren't as prominent is because they do get fixed.

Gen tapping was removed because there are 4 survivors vs 1 killer and any one of them could touch a gen for 0.1 second and undo the almost 2 second killer action of kicking it.

OTR was changed because 80 seconds of endurance was insanely overkill, even when compared to every other instance of endurance, particularly when used with flashlights or for pallet saves that do not count as conspicuous actions and cancel its effect. It still got rebuffed to be 40 seconds which is half its original value and still an insanely high value.

Fog Vials were changed because it enabled playing the game without ever actually needing to engage with the killer as it was a free escape on an infinite use item with a small cooldown that could be ready every chase.

Aura blocking I assume you mean Distortion which was changed for the same reason as fog vials above, it still works exactly the same you just can’t hide all match without engaging with the killer and actually have to engage with the normal gameplay loop to get the aura blocking benefit. You can still hide in lockers to block them though, and many aura reading perks on the killer side got changed.

  • I don’t see the point in restricting these thibns to Twitch. I’m sure a ton of people are like me and just leave the stream running while you do something else so it’s not even getting your attention like I assume it’s meant to.

  • Those saying Wesker, are you including his hug tech thing?

  • If not comms I think some sort of in game ping system similar to Apex Legends would work well. So you could aim at the hook and click and your character would say ‘going to hook’ etc.

Would give them a reason to add more voice lines as well, though even a simple text pop up would be fine next to their name on survivor hud.

  • People do DC for the weirdest reasons, I do feel it’s hurt ego.

If you mind game a loop and down someone and they DC.
They try to sabotage and you make another hook.
    They miss a flashlight save.
Funniest was picking up first down near a pallet and I swung out, they dropped it and missed the save and instantly DC’d. Like what 😂 hilarious.

So frustrating to be a survivor when this stuff happens though, especially when you almost win the game still and if that person had just stayed and played it out you all would’ve escaped.

Sometimes it’s not even a DC though presumably to avoid the penalty, they’ll just stand there and put the controller down so there’s not even a bot.

It’s the mentality that needs to change imo. During the discussions about the Japan stats recently it was said that they almost never give up and their escape rate for all survivors SWF or not was almost 50%.

  • The structures on this map have always been a nightmare to loop as killer. Now there are extra pallets both in them making them stronger, and between them making them easy to link together where you could already reach a strong structure with the speed boost after getting hit from anywhere on the map.

The log loops have always been particularly egregious for me, and now there seems to be more of them spawning, with pallets between them that link into other things making them a ridiculous time waste there is no time for.

I hate this map and if someone knows how to use the logs or on every hit runs to one of the main structures I just have to leave and ignore them. It’s one map I would rather take chase at killer shack which usually killers would avoid due to how long it can take to chase someone there because of how soul destroying the rest of the buildings are.

Just delete this map and start again imo, it’s long overdue and is just a lone relic of the past. Only good thing is the aesthetics are nice and it’s got a dark horror feel most maps used to have before they were redone.

Re Skull Merchant, this came up last time we got stats and the devs confirmed they could differentiate the kills that happened because someone let go on hook

Letting go on hook isn’t a thing anymore but people still just run at the killer or stand under hook not actually playing quite frequently.

  • Surely Skull Merchant being so high on the lethality list shows just how much the go next mentality actually affects kill rate stats?

Crazy to see Legion popularity despite being considered one of the weaker killers.

I wonder why the difference in overall in kill rate despite the percentage of games where the last gen is completed being almost the same? Maybe there are more games thrown at the end due to altruism?

  • @razvicool said:

I doubt you do. You think you do if you play only killer and are having fun doing this, but if the game just turned to a race of gen rushing against a tunneling killer, you would soon realise you won't enjoy that.

I mean that’s literally what the game is at the moment lol.

Issue is if you stop only one side from doing those then the other has no incentive to stop rushing their objective.

  • @CornMoss said:

I counted 24 pallets on crotus asylum (just ones that were thrown btw), is there a bug with pallet distribution? If not what happened?

It’s from the latest ‘quality of life’ update.

Don’t know when we started referring to straight up realm wide buffs to one side quality of life, but here we are.

Basically be prepared to have an awful time unless you’re playing as one of the top couple of killers who can ignore some pallets.

  • @UndeddJester said:

I still have only played the Walking Dead map a total of 2 times since it's release... one of those was Killer xD

Not that it's a good map mind you... but I have 100% trophies outside of this and Krasue (because I refuse to play this killer until they aren't silly anymore)...

But aye, the point is, I don't mind being patient... but 2!? It doesn't even have a reliable offering XD

I still haven’t seen this map once as either role!

Nostromo multiple time a night though 😭

  • As others have said the MMR flip flop feels awful both sides. They had tighter restrictions before but changed it because streamers who play the game for a job were taking too long to find people at their skill level, so they changed it and we all get thrown to the wolves.

The quest system change affected my playtime as well. With the Tomes I always hated how they make you throw the game for some challenges, but with the new quest system I sometimes just log on to finish dailies then play something else. Having a long session without something to work towards feels kinda bad once the weeklies are done, and the crazy numbers on milestones is too much and feels un achievable - which I did not manage to do last rift.

  • I’ve got 9 after playing for hours last night, but survivors rarely go into the void once they’ve finished their quest I feel.

The most puzzling for me was the 3 kills which I did but felt awful doing it as it doesn’t count sacrifices. I never want to slug for the fourth especially in an event, but the alternative was bringing a Mori into the event which just feels even worse.

  • I’m in UK and while the incentive is always on survivor, 1.25 lowest, usually 1.5, occasionally 2.5 - killer queues are always instant until early hours of the morning but survivor I can often be waiting a minute or 2 until the morning hours when they become instant.
I usually play 9/10pm into the morning.

MMR, time and region play a part in queue times but it’s weird never seeing the incentive switch still despite queue times suggesting they should be switching at times, but it’s been that way for months now.

  • This is happening to me on PS5 as well, massive FPS drops when next to the exit gate, open or closed.

Edit to add it’s not the time for some reason.
I had it as Ghoul on Hawkins, Singu on Midwich, but not Nostromo with Executioner. Haven’t had it happen as survivor yet but could just be I didn’t get to the exit on the affected maps.

  • I think the game just sucks for both sides right now, and the changes they make only seem to make the issues worse for everyone.

  • I keep getting Nostromo every other match as well and Labratory every 3 or 4 matches

  • @Naxete said:

I’m unable to improve as a survivor in Dead by Daylight. I keep watching people on YouTube or Twitch who seem to play effortlessly well, and it frustrates me a lot. I don’t know how to make decisions about when to stay in a structure or when to leave, and I struggle to recognize each map’s structures. I have about 3,000 hours, almost all as a survivor (I started playing killer in November 2024). I never play SWF, always SoloQ (I understand this is important, but it shouldn’t be decisive for improving my individual skill). I know and use the looping techniques we all know: hugging structures, keeping distance from the killer, going full W, tanking for teammates, trying to play each structure well... But NOTHING, I struggle immensely to improve.

As a survivor, I have better and worse days, but I never feel like I’m actually improving. I don’t know what to do to level up. It’s very frustrating...

Playing killer is a good way to see how other survivors loop you and what works against you.
I know you said you’ve been doing that, and watching YouTube etc. There are some great guides on there on how to abuse certain loops, and how to chain certain tiles together. Mr Tattorhead has some great stuff even if you can’t do it to the same level it does give you some great strategy to use and makes you think about things differently.

  • I can’t play every day but when I do play I try and have a decent session length.
I’ve finished all the weekly’s and done some of the dailies but am only around stage 5 of most of the milestones. Some of the numbers it’s expecting are straight ridiculous unless you play the game as a job.
I’ve got my cells back on the rift but no way I’ll finish the deep rift which is a shame as a couple of recolours I really like, but the gains outside of quests is so abysmally small and the quests so time consuming to finish I know im not going to get them and will probably just spend my time on another game rather than grind and be disappointed I don’t make it to get what I want.

  • @Cassiopeiae said:

Personally, I hope it is accompanied by a prominently displayed point total on the screen, so that overly self-assured players get humbled.

I would love this as well so I know if my games are hard because I’m playing at a higher MMR or if I just need to get better. MMR being visible would also allow me to see when I am improving, particularly in cases where I might play well but not escape or get many kills.

They just need to change it so you get the adept and the challenge credit. I don't want to go from playing against a bad killer who was guaranteed to lose to an OP bot who somehow turns it into a win.

But if it's as dumb as the survivor bots have been lately, then sure, a bot is fine.

I mean at least survivor bots do gens unlike my usual teammates 😂

Because it is boring to always have to run second chance "meta" perks, that maybe gets you to another unsafe loop before you inevitably go down again.

It shouldn't be a requirement at all.

True gen-rushing would be to bring toolboxes with BNP's and builds specifically for doing gens as fast as possible. At least that is how I would define it

I feel the same about having to run gen defence so there’s more than 3-5 chases before the gens are done and the games over in 5 minutes without having even seen some of the team.

I’d love to be able to run some of the undetectable and terror radius stuff without the game being over before there’s chance to get any value from them.

Honestly any scenario that involves the killer going back to hook to find the survivors healing under it is a massive skill issue on the survivors...

Let me spell it out for you, real simple:

    DON'T HEAL UNDER HOOKS

No killer should be punished for terrible survivor plays.

This is the biggest thing for me, survivors feel entitled to just stand under hook and heal rather then using the time killer is hooking someone else to go somewhere else and heal.
Like they expect after hooking someone the killer shouldn’t come to the unhook notification where they know at least 2 out of the 3 survivors not currently hooked are; what are killers meant to do just wander the map looking for one person in particular?

What they need to do is remove the downvote/upvote system (or at least just keep upvotes on the bug report forum as a "this is happening to me too" button), and add more forum mods so that way it doesn't take a hour for obvious rage baiters and trolls to get deleted when reported. Maybe another button to press in the report system that says why you're reporting beyond "broke rule."

They should also let us connect our stats page and our Reddit usernames to these accounts so we take one step forward, 8 steps back. Would love to see the "friendships" that would blossom.

I’ve said for ages if people had to link their game accounts to their forum accounts they would be more careful with their attitude and what they say as there would be accountability for it.
As is people can be as nasty as they like and if they get banned just make another profile, it’s why we see so much crazy stuff before the weekend on throwaway accounts.

  • I think only having to set up an exit portal and being able to teleport to them from anywhere would be good, it takes so long to set up both portals only to have them disabled in seconds.

With Shred if it didn’t lock the camera so hard when in recovery it would feel a lot better.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

Unless I'm misremembering they also did an engine update with this patch. That's one of the main reasons it was such a large patch. Given that it's not surprising a bunch of things broke. Not sure why they didn't save it for a mid chapter without any new characters though.

I’m sure they must’ve expected things to break as well, and the patch shouldn’t have passed QA like this. They would’ve looked better if they delayed it to make sure it was up to standard before releasing or set aside enough time to thoroughly test and fix things before release.
It’s insane that if they tested this at all they saw all the problems and thought it was ok to release it like this. It shows a lack of care and attention, and certainly doesn’t say Labour of Love to me.

  • The loading screen is baffling to me. Like did no one even load into a single game before sending the update live, or did they see it and just think oh well this is fine just send it live as is. I mean after all there are worse bugs they sent live right.

  • I’ve been trying to use some for achievements but they rarely seem to work at 20%, I think I could be fine if it didn’t use up the offering whether it worked or not. It feels bad going through 3 or 4 offerings without any working and having none left.

  • For the Fig Vial they could make it so it slowly puts the item on cooldown so if you pick it straight up without it already being on cooldown you can use the item in a few seconds when the cooldown has finished, or if it’s on the floor for some time the cooldown will have increased until it’s at the maximum allowed by the Fog Vial and any addons equipped.

The definition of a win has shifted pretty drastically over time.

Before 6.1, 3k-4k was a killer win. I still see this regularly when people discuss stats, but not as often in threads about balance changes.

When the hatch changed, it shifted to being only a 4k.

After the 3 gen and gen kick metas, it became "4k with at least 4 gens left standing".

At the most ridiculous, during the 2 weeks thrill was over buffed, there was a thread showcasing a full video of a match: 4k, 5 gens left standing, the survivors' only accomplishment was finally cleansing the thrill totem. There were people in that thread arguing that survivors should be nerfed based on that.

Generally speaking, it's been "4k at 5 gens" for a lot of people for a while now. Which I feel is a big part of why people are so ravenous for regression and getting the 3 gen meta back.

This is such a ridiculous straw man, I’ve never once heard killer players say a win is only a 4K and definitely not counting a win as only a 4K without survives doing a single gen.

3k is a win and most of my games this is how it plays out; sure it’s frustrating to get left on the ground while the killer looks for the last survivor they have no idea where they are but it really is a rarity in my experience.

Maybe region is what makes a difference as I’m in the UK but I’ve seen people talk about ‘humping’ from killers and I’ve only had that happen once to me and I’ve been playing since the game launched on PS4 when Huntress was brand new so it seems disingenuous to me.
