  • Contrary to what this forum tells you, being Rank 1 is definitely an indication of consistent, decent play. You can't get pips at red ranks just doing nothing or being dead all game or something.

That said, rank is just something to screw around with to me. Half the time I just derank intentionally because I try playing by the survivor rulebook, which means that I basically play Wraith and never uncloak.

  • The reality is that all you'll learn from getting wiped by good red rank or SWF groups is that you can't beat those groups.

Even the best killers in the game will get 0-1k on these groups fairly regularly.

You can go learn the "proper" way to run common loops, or get better at mindgames and it'll raise the bar a little bit for you, but you'll still be destroyed by the groups that finish 3 gens during your first chase.

  • @toxicnancymain See, already back down to 17. Darn. (How did that even happen?)

Making your profile private just makes people think you are indeed a tryhard with over 2k hours. Multiple private profiles makes people think SWF.

The best is when 3 are private but the 4th person isn't and has the other 3 on their friends list.

    Oops!

  • I mean, I can already see that groups are in Steam. And they are a pretty tremendous amount of the time.

Not the end of the world, but it also definitely feels like the devs were lying or being misleading in some way when they claimed some tiny number.

  • I would never, ever tell a friend to pick up this game. Quite literally, I would recommend LoL or DotA to a friend before this.

At this point, I keep at it because my wife likes it so much, and because I don't mind the concept at it's core. But there's no version of reality where I tell a friend, "Yes, this will be a good experience for you as a new player, go ahead and jump in."

Do survivor mains get so defensive about everything that someone who plays a killer says that they can't tell a joke when they see one, especially one that actually says "Just Kidding"?

It's funny how dumb clickbait gets so much more attention than more well thought out, interesting posts, right? 😂

  • @Zarr0ch said:

Do the killer mains just complain about 1 perk endlessly, when they do give up or get it nerfed, just pick another to whinge about?

Yes, I am complaining extremely hard.

My next complaint is going to be about Hope. It's completely unfair!!

  • @Respectfulnancymain said:

Wait your a rank 13? This whole time i excepted you to be a rank 1. Im disappointed

Hell no, I dick around too much. (I also only have like 100 hours on the game total, hah. And that's counting sitting around in menus all the time. I'm actually a big newbie.)

Probably could get to at least purple ranks right now. I tend to derank a lot messing around with survivors and doing challenges and helping out and crap. I'd never be Rank 1 no matter how hard I tried, though.

What the heck is that screen filter-

Shh, it's nothing, it looks exactly the same as your screen.

  • Why not?

Other killers (Freddy is a prime example) work just fine, because they water down their powers and make them work inside the context of the game.

So yeah, Xenomorphs would just run around like a biped, hitting you with their Mouse1 claw and having some other alien-themed power.

  • I like how there's a ton of, "Killers will say this is ok, lol!" posts and not a single, "Yes, this is ok." post.

Yes, this is a bannable offense. Report them.

I donate what little money I can and don't pretend bullying isn't an issue because the victims need to "grow thicker skin". I'm not qualified to do much else, I didn't go into psychology.

    Oh, you're against bullying?

If you DC you are a coward. IDC what game you are playing or the level of competitiveness. It's a cop out, a psychological defense mechanism. If you can't even finish a NON-competitive match in a video game with no actual reward, that's honestly pretty sad. You're whole argument is bass ackwards because if it's non-competitive then it shouldn't matter what happens and therefore you shouldn't feel the need to DC.

People DC to avoid admitting to themselves "I lost". Validating any reason to DC that's not an actual emergency is just enabling that behavior and makes it worse.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1296922#Comment_1296922

No bait. Use the experience to learn something, test something, don't just give up. By doing that you just make it easier to come up with an excuse in the future. Next time maybe you get a single lag spike that gets you hit, not even caught just hit, and then you could have kept playing but nope, I lag = DC.

To be honest, it sounds like you come from a FGC tournament background.

Players here will never understand most of what you're saying. This community just doesn't have that mindset.

  • @DelsKibara said:

I've literally never found someone who took this game as seriously as you, oh my god take a chill pill dude.

This game is not meant to be competitive by the devs, which is why they are lenient on the DC penalties for the first few times, they understand that people have legitimate and actual concerns they have to take care of.

If it is a competitive setting where Disconnecting has far harsher penalties than "Oh well, guess that game sucked", then yes I would agree, you would need to make sure everything is working correctly before playing the game.

But Dead by Daylight is barely even competitive, the only competitive aspect of it are the rankings, it's the people who make it competitive. I play competitively because I find it fun, which is why I dislike people who DC out of rage, but I understand that this game is not built around that concept.

Though you are entitled to your opinion, and I am not interested in continuing this discussion, feel free to reply to this if you want, but just know you are alone in this when it comes to people who DC over technical issues.

It's not even a matter of "taking it seriously", it's just not excusing bad behavior.

DCing is childish nonsense, just meant to hurt others in an attempt to salvage one's ego. We shouldn't encourage it, make excuses for it, or justify it as a community.

    That's it, really. That's all.

    TAKE AN L.

That's all there is too it. People DC to avoid feeling like they lost.

If your wife has a heart attack that's an emergency and a legit reason to DC.

If you have lag or you're getting less than optimal framerate, sorry that's not a legit reason to DC.

You are defending people that don't want to lose. No other way to say it. They do it to ease their egos. Saying "well lag" or "muh performance" is a cop out honestly. ######### happens. Take an L.

  • I've had 3 DC's in 2 games today as killer. :(

The game with 2 DC's I just ran around helping the survivors farm because that was some BS.

It's already something that happens most of the time when talking about Solo Queue.

Your teammates are more of a Killer than every single Killer in the cast could ever be whenever you play Solo Queue.

    It's the truth.

So many of my games as killer come down to, "How are the survivors treating each other?"

Farm your teammates on every hook? Easy 4k for me. Then everyone yells that I camped or tunneled. Well, your teammates made that choice, sorry.

  • @Mooks said:

There will be people arguing this is taking the game hostage if more than one survivor/ the last two survivors play like this.

but sure this is a legitimate strategy. You will get salty messages though, so do not wonder. And it is unfun for the other players in the match, because you are pretty much playing against the other survivors. Again: legitimate. But unfun for others and def will generate salt.

As a killer main, this is 100% fine in my book.

You cannot hold the game hostage in this way, and you're playing as you choose. Granted, there could be an argument for griefing your team.

  • I've been playing with no perks, addons, or offerings for a while now. Albeit not at red ranks, although I end up facing red ranks anyway, so hey.

Why? I dunno, I guess I like the option select it offers. Usually I do really well and then look godlike, but if I do poorly I can just blame no perks. 🤣

I'm going to have to call a massive amount of BS on the "lack of interaction/chases" bit. Based purely on the fact that the only killers people tend to complain about being "boring" are the ones that are actually effective in chases. Deathslinger, Freddy, Huntress, Oni, Spirit etc.

You NEVER hear the same sentiments echoed about Clown, Wraith or Leatherface. Nobody has an issue with those for some reason. Maybe this isn't the case for you, but this is observable with much of the survivor player base. Even in the content creator field. From Puppers to ANGRYPUG, they all consistently complain about the same killers as being "boring" when the only key difference between them and other killers is that they have anti-loop mechanics.

"boring" is just code for "effective"

I guess you're half right. They can't lead certain killers on a 3 gen chase, therefore, no chase potential, and "boring".

    Yup.

I've said it like 25 times on this forum so far, "boring" is just code for something that actually works for the opponent.

Why do we know this? Because "boring" is used as the same code in every other player-vs-player game. It's so common and consistent that it's actually pretty humorous.

  • I will say that - while I have no idea who it's really going to be - Candyman would seem disappointing after all the big talk about "emotional milestone" and such. Especially after another recent thread were people kept saying, "But Bov, BHVR never hypes things!"

Honestly, someone like Jason or a Xenomorph is the only horror figure that really meets with the hype level they put out there, but I don't think it's going to be them at all, so I'm a little lost.

Exactly thank you. We don't know if we're facing a red rank killer or not. She got no hooks and opened the other door herself so I said that's just die to endgame and give her the 4k.

Sounds like she was trying to lose and you robbed her of it! So toxic!

  • @thesuicidefox said:

I've made these points before but killer mains will be like "bUt We DoNt GeT tO kEeP oUr AdDoNs".

Killers have 20 add-ons, and 1 less offering than survivors. Survivors have 18 items and 55 add-ons, for a total of 73 objects in a Bloodweb. As Spirit, I get MDR and Amulet at LEAST once each per web. I could, in theory, dump all the BP I earned as killer back into Spirit and play with these 2 add-ons indefinitely. You cannot do this as survivor.

Killers can also more consistently earn more bloodpoints per game than survivors AND they have BBQ to double point earnings which is ALSO a top tier tracking perk. WGLF is purely for bloodpoints, does not offer any other benefit, and it is a LOT harder to get 4 safe rescues/protection hit per game than 1 hook on each player.

As killer I can earn 1 million BP in about 6 hours of playing. It would take me more than double that time as survivor to get 1 million BP.

I completely agree with you this change was unnecessary. If anything, I would make it so that if the item has charges remaining when you escape you keep your add-ons. If the item was spent then you lose the add-ons. And if you escape through the hatch you only keep the add-ons if the item had 100% of the charges remaining. This would make it a lot more fair for survivors. It really was a bad change.

What? No, I don't think killers give a damn.

I can have a totally mediocre game as killer and walk away with 50,000BP - and that's assuming no BP offerings. A survivor having a decent game is liable to walk away with 15,000 sometimes. Not to mention that survivors have to pick an actual item to even get the add-ons on top of it.

The BP economy is the last thing I'm complaining about as a killer, honestly.

  • Me as a killer checking to see if I "got everything I wanted".

Hasn't 'gg' been diluted, though? Normally, I only see 'gg' when one side has trounced the other. 4k escape? Survivors 'gg.' 4k kill? Killers 'gg.' If it comes from the losing side, I'll take it as genuine, but when it comes from the winning side, that comes off as sarcastic.

It's just a form of politeness in a setting where we can't shake hands or bow or something. It's not really supposed to be taken too literally.

  • It's a neat idea.

I dunno how it'd work in practice (that's a TON of time spent not doing objectives to check a counter) but it sounds cool.

May I ask how the game is still survivor sided ? Because I'm gonna give you two main changes that actually hurt the survivors.

    • The repair speed Efficiency Debuff for each Survivor working on a generator has been increased to 15% (up from 10%).
    • Great Skill Checks while repairing now give 1% bonus progression (down from 2%).

And well, i'm not even gonna get started on the map reworks because it's gonna start a whole war. But i'm just gonna say that at least every map as a total of 2-3 Dead-Zones now.

This recent patch hurt the survivors more than it helped them, and i'm not complaining but this patch made it a lot more difficult for the survivors side. I still don't understand why killers still complain about gen speed even though it got nerfed. I just don't understand. It's almost like some people want it to be literally impossible for survivors to win.

Stacking on gens was never ideal in the first place, so it's not even a factor in genspeed when we're talking about the speed of high end players.

Great skill checks would be a factor, true, but a fairly tiny one most of the time. Lots of RNG involved there.

  • I never cared for Death Note because the concept always seemed weird.

You get a magic book that can kill anyone, anywhere, totally undetected (as long as you have some extremely basic information on them) and you still somehow screw it up?

Man, if I had one of those...well, I won't say what I'd do, but I sure as hell wouldn't get caught, either.

  • It's funny, I constantly hear about "they removed pallets!!" but I still routinely get maps where pallets are so densely packed that a survivor will be at the next one by the time I've broken or gone around the first one.

(The only upside is that the pallet density will often cause them to spend those pallets prematurely rather than looping at all, so that's actually kinda helpful, too.)

  • @Weederick said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1293917#Comment_1293917

I've seen it recently from newer killers. Had to play against 3-gens twice last night and while its beatable, its really unfun and uninteractive. Protecting 3 gens later on is normal. I meant the players who would always break the chase and return to their precious 3 gen. Maybe look for free hits, but then straight back to the gen. What feels like holding the game hostage, because he only prevents survivor from finishing the objective and doesn't care about his own. Until boredom kicks in, but the killer is stubborn for 30 more minutes and ready to invest the time.

That's a fairly one-sided way of looking at it.

Not only do the survivors have a hand in setting up the situation, they're also playing in the same stalemate. The killer isn't under any obligation to run off to nowhere and let survivors finish the gens any more than the survivors are obligated to let the killer hit them.

  • Yeah, I - hey, wait a minute....

  • @Dead_by_Gadfly said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1292618#Comment_1292618

Because its hard? Why is it everything the killer does to make the game more difficult on survivors is "boring?"

    Camping is boring

    Tunneling is boring

    Freddy is boring

    Doc is boring

    3 genning is boring

Can you enlighten us all on what in this game isnt boring? Is it running around in circles for 3 minutes? Is that fun?

"Boring" is generally code for "It made me lose" or "I didn't know what to do".

It's actually super common in almost every game genre. Blocking in fighting games is "boring", camping in FPS games is "boring", ganking someone from a bush in MOBA's is "boring".

It lets people complain without there being the usual opening for discussion that other terms would provide, so it's an unassailable rhetorical fortress. They can just complain and complain and no one can question it.

  • @MyersxKate said:

It's a personal thing. Some people I know like it, some dont. It doesn't hugely impact gameplay so you do you

    You'd be surprised.

I really believe that my gameplay as killer improved dramatically once I got my settings such that scratches stood out more, blendettes were visible in bushes, blood was actually visible to me, and so on.

Same with sounds, I put some time into equalizing stuff and now I can actually hear if someone is running nearby.

A LOT of the killer balance seems to revolve around screwing with your senses, anything you can do to mitigate that is huge.

This is why I don’t like GhostFace users 😀 when I play as survivor. Another is when GhostFace dances when I’m on a hook and I wasn’t even salty to them.

In all honesty, I don't think he's necessarily overpowered, but it does feel like he bullies people a lot on some maps and some areas.

That said, I don't think I've even touched the crouch button yet. Which I probably should. I've been a little too fixated on being a sneaky sneaker.

  • Yep, I've been trying out Ghostface and have produced a bit of extra salt.

People don't react well to stealth. I can't blame them, really. It can be frustrating to not be able to rely on the usual audio cues.

Still, I love picking people up right off gens. 😂

  • Survivors: "Killers need to not come after me because they need to be decent people and think about my personal enjoyment!"

Also Survivors: "I got hooked?! ######### the rest of my team, I'm out."

  • ...no?

My post was merely to emphasize that killers don’t lose points for camping, which is another motivator to do just that. There’s no negative to camping when many survivors will refuse to let someone go into struggle or die on hook.

Be reasonable: Not every Killer returns to the unhook. All it means is that they were hit again before they decided to heal. Even if they were working on a gen.

And yes, that has happened in-game for me. Dude was unhooked & ran to the nearest generator. I found him working on it, injured. So I downed him. he called me a tunneler & a camper for even returning to the hook.

    You tunnelamper!

  • "Someone proxy camped me"

    AKA

"The killer was nowhere near me and just came back for the unhook sound, but nothing can forestall my complaining."

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

There have been a lot of times where an increased FoV has actually HURT me and not been beneficial. And I use Monitor and Abuse on quite a few killers, so I have comparisons in every game I play with it. That extra 8 degrees does actually squash a lot of things together, making some things look unnatural. I'm not playing on a small TV either, so there's no arguing that point.

One thing to also consider is that half the killers wear MASKS. This would obscure a lot more vision than the game lets on, and while that is more of a game mechanics vs. lore issue, it's still something to think about.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1292494#Comment_1292494

Ummm, no it isn't. If it WAS then firecrackers would be the most common item in the game.

And all survivors have is information. They are literally playing an INFORMATION GAME and they're not for free. Bond is a teachable, Spine Chill is short range, Premonition is pretty meh and on a cooldown, Object of Obsession is (again) a teachable AND gives the killer info too. Yes, running is an important skill, but outside of that there is nothing to the survivor game except the information you have and how you use it.

The hated "second chance" meta build also uses zero information perks. In general though, outside of OoO the information given by survivor perks is limited at best. Even something like Empathy tells me "Oh, great. This INJURED SURVIVOR is getting chased on the opposite side of the map. Not much I can do there except expect them to go down soon."

I was referring to all the information perks that you get by playing SWF.

Killers just get to deal with straining their senses constantly in a game that's based heavily on assailing those senses, and people say, "But you can run a perk for that, lol!"

  • Not gonna lie, I agree. But since the game seems to be balanced around, "How can we assault the killers' senses?" it won't happen.

But yeah, FoV is a perk. So are a ton of information perks, but survivors get those for free. What can ya do.

  • Hey, if you say it's not possible for you then...well, you're right!

  • @Rey_512 said:

The correct phrasing would then be: “Killers don’t gain additional bloodpoints...” or “Killers miss out on bloodpoints”... my point is that some people erroneously think that you are actually getting bloodpoints deducted when in reality it’s only emblem points that take a hit.

    No, nobody actually thinks that.

It's just that reasonable people know what "losing" means in the context. As in, the loss of potential gain incurred by the opportunity cost of camping the hook rather than pursuing objectives.

If one wishes to be pedantic, make sure you're at least on-base.
