  • They're fun to try and get the killer to being Franklin's

This weekend has been awesome so far. Survivors keep burning Mary's Letter, which gives me a crapton of breakable walls to go kick. I like that. Plus, the map is really cool, aesthetically.

The only thing that's kinda dumb is all the survivors that bring flashlights so they can click them at me, which obviously means "Please walk in the opposite direction and leave me alone." Really weird considering no Bloodlust means easier chases for them, but whatever, I don't mind being nice and letting them do gens. I know there are challenges for gen completion in the newest Tome level.

I love how chill you always are

  • Why are people so mad about a test? Do you want them to just change it without any player input because that's what they'd so otherwise.

And don't say put it on a ptb, you know that's a silly answer

I joined when they rolled out that wonderful, zero issue MMR system this summer.

Rank 1 killers with over 4000 hours in the game vs. my zero experience Rank 20 ass with 1 yellow perk.

Switch over to killers, play 4 rank 1-4 survivors as a Rank 20. I literally got apologized to after the game by them when I don't even think I wounded one all game, much less hooked.

After they took that down, I think they've just shelved the idea. There is no match making system in this game. They just throw random people together within 10 ranks of each other and hope for the best.

Ha "within 10 ranks of each other"

  • I would love to have my perks back but you know what Sony are like -_-

I mentioned that I primarily play on playstation, but I just got a new Xbox so I was testing it out there, and this is literally what I encountered with my very first survivor match.

Yeah I'm blind and missed that. I switched from ps4 to steam this month and it's been similar.

  • @SweetTerror said:

I repeat, FIRST MATCH. BHVR, get this joke that you call a matchmaking system fixed. This is utterly ridiculous. Is it really that hard to wonder why new players don't stick around?

That's grim but it's your first match ever and you've got over 1k posts?

Edit: nwm, missed your other comment

  • Complaints are probably a mix of huntress mains, people who regularly get tier 2+ bloodlust and people who get angry whenever their favourite side gets nerfed no matter how small or reasonable the change is.

  • I'll see what it's like but still feel like bloodlust one might be necessary for some very safe roundabout loops. I don't think there's much need for level 2 or 3 at all.

  • Sweaty matches in kyf are not a ranked/competitive mode, especially as even choosing the same map can give you a massive deadzone or enough pallets to build a ski lodge with. Anything otherwise would need dev support which is unlikely to be forthcoming.

  • No, it's annoying af when they secretly change things.

So I haven’t felt like myself for the past few weeks and after finding a lump I decided to book a doctors appointment and it turns out that I’ve got cancer. I wasn’t originally going to post anything here, but I didn’t want to just vanish without saying anything.

I just have to focus my attention on other things right now and get myself ready to fight. I’ll remain optimistic and hopefully I’ll be back here again in the not so distant future.

I hope you all have a good Christmas and hopefully next year is better to us all.

    Take care. 💕

I hope 2021 goes better for you <3

Nope. No matter what, her phasing radius can not change from 24 meters, regardless to what you do to your terror radius. The same goes for the Huntress' 40 meter lullaby.

Huh. I was certain it was tied to her TR, thats why I never use m&a on her. How did you find this out?

  • For anyone that's not reading anything that's been written - this is about new players (mostly killers from what I've seen but not always) being matched with experienced ones, and ways the game could be more accommodating for new players.

It isn't about which side is stronger in general, VPNs, flashlight clicking, ds/unbreakable, ruin/undying, noed, moris, keys, huntress hitboxes, whether Victor is a baby or not, or why clown should be nerfed. These things are not related.

what are you even talking about? What has this got to do with new players being regularly matched with experienced ones?

  • @thisisntmax said:

being new to an old game always sucks, you’re late to the party. regardless of whether red ranks wasn’t boring with the same few select killers playing similar builds, there’s always going to be people who want to take advantage of less experienced players. but I guess that’s okay if it’s the killer VPNing to get a very fair and earned buff that behaviour has yet to dish out I suppose?

If you could point me to the place where I said VPNing is a good thing could you let me know, I'm having some trouble locating it.

  • @siren_sorceress

I wasn't trying to make this into a surv v killer thing, there's enough of those threads. New survivors shouldn't be paired with experienced killers either and bhvr could do a lot to help out new players on both sides.

My significant other played this game for the first time as killer last week ( first time playing the game, actually ) and has ZERO idea as to what perks are or why they matter.

My significant other got 4K super easy.

In fact, he said it was so easy, it wasn't even very fun.

I'm pretty sure you either didn't read what the post is about, or your other half demolished some red ranks on his first time playing - in which case please pass on my congratulations.

"If You Looped Better" lmao how can i loop a killer who is basement camping? You want me to jump in a locker and teleport out or something. As for the second game i got camped by Pyramid head, he hit my BT with his long range, chased me like 20 yards and hit me through a wall with his long range...not sure how that's primarily down to my skill at looping. On top of that, i'm not gonna force myself to run a perk i don't like just because a killer may want to tunnel or not. Like I said it's massive flaw in the games design...

You loop the killer around the basement hooks, obviously

  • Wow. @Boss why have you never mentioned this advanced wraith strat before?

  • Idk, 12 angry men is old but the dialogue is great.

  • @Sluzzy said:

They need to learn the hard way. You don't learn anything if you are always winning. If a few survivors get out, that should be acceptable, especially being new.

Nothing wrong to losing to people at least somewhere on your level. But if for instance a baby trapper who uses his one perk slot to bring monstrous shrine, doesn't know how to set traps and tries to break pallets with his basic attack goes against 4 survivors with 1000+ hours the only thing he'll learn is to play something else.

And if in the long run playing killer as a noob becomes completely miserable so that very few are willing to stick with it it'll start affecting other stuff (i.e. survivor queue time)

  • Insidious, ofc

I feel like either nurses or sloppy is always great for wraithing. I like myc too especially with speed addons - even if you don't go back to the hook every time it'll make the rescuer paranoid.

So we went from “it’s so easy lol” to “well after adjusting and getting used to it, it isn’t so bad “. Sometimes we do get carried away in the way we speak.

It really depends. For me personally I have chill matches. The killer might be incompetent or the map spawn is really good/team mates don’t suck too much and I got chased for 1 minute maybe and the rest I repair and leave.

But that’s not most matches. In most matches, I have to tryhard, loop, rush generators and if I make some mistake the game is thrown.

Well yes, sometimes we get carried away enough to completely rephrase the words and tone of what someone said so we have a nice little bundle of straw to attack, don't we my dear? Sometimes we have to put on some patronising airs to make our witless arguments seem a little more compelling, don't we?

    I'm English, you're not going to out-condescend me :P

  • @CustomerService said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1757970#Comment_1757970

Yeah, no. Don’t give people who might be newer to the game the wrong impression. If you play solo red ranks, You -will- sweat in this game or you -will- go out fast.

I'm not saying I put in zero effort and then just strut out the exit gates anyway, just that I don't run meta perks or exhaustion perks that often and after adjusting to doing without them it's really not so bad.

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

The problem with your logic is that you can't matchmake with people above rank 15 iirc. And you its almost impossible to not pip as survivor in those matches. It wouldn't be worth the time to even bother doing that.

I've never seen or even heard of that in EU so maybe its an NA thing.

you can, ranks 15-20 specifically can be matched with any rank to make sure new players aren't put off by waiting for a game.

Also I'm from dear old London

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

I mean, dunno when the last time you were in rank 16+ but new killers have absolute control over new survivors. I had to restart when I started on PC and it was the dullest experience of my life as the survivors have no good perks. Don't know what looping is. And actively hide over doing gens.

And wow the SWF boogyman myth is spreading further. Now people are purchasing new copies of the game just to troll? Nan. Don't think so. Never saw it and that sounds absurd.

New killers do usually dominate new survivors yes, the point is a lot of the time, possibly most of the time new killers are going against experienced survivors.

As for smurfing buying another copy of a game on pc just to do it isn't unheard of at all. And on console it's quick and free to make a new account that'll still have all your dlc.

    1. I don’t know if you play rank 20 matches with friends. Solo queue against only Spirits, Pheads, Bubba’s, Freddy, Iri head Huntress, Nurses and Onis, yeah you have to sweat.

    2. Pallets have only been reduced and looping nerfed since release. It has only gone in a decreasing curve, the strength of looping. So saying things like “it’s now only looping” / “survivors don’t need to conserve pallets anymore” doesn’t make any sense. If anything, they could easily not conserve pallets in the past and now they have to.

    3. Play against me (or against any red rank sweaty tryhard killer) in solo queue with your diversion and you’ll be put out of the game in 2 minutes.

"Play against me (or against any red rank sweaty tryhard killer) in solo queue with your diversion and you’ll be put out of the game in 2 minutes."

Have been doing that for a while now. It's fun being sole survivor and running useless perks while everyone else is rocking ds/unbreakable.

  • @unsafepallet said:

I really don't understand why so many people tryhard against survivors who literally don't try at all. I just played against a hag that tunneled and mori'd everyone in a three-man at five gens, after someone dc'd. Literally everyone else in the game was chilling and that hag just wanted to ruin that like bruh

If there's been a DC it's not always exactly "tryharding". If someone disconnects at 5 gens and I'm not in the mood to farm I'll usually just aim to get everyone dead asap so I can get in a game with 5 players. Not the most fun thing ever ik but take it up with the dcer.

Yeah. The Smurfing is out of control. Since I already got my Rank-1 goal out of the way, I've been kind of playing with learning different Killers to let my Rank drop a bit, and then switch back to Myers to hunt the middle Ranks for Smurfing squads. It only takes a couple of minutes to figure out if you in such a match. If not, I play the game softer and generally let people escape. I'm not there for them. If there are Red mixed in with lessers (or Purple who are just Red who let their Rank slip) I do my best to slaughter them all. I find hunting Smurfers to be rather gratifying. They drove my gal out of the game in the say way as they did your friend. So she lets me use her account where the Killer is not near so potent a Rank so I can hunt for them there too. I've caught several Bully Squads this way and have some hilarious videos as they quickly realize it isn't a Rank-14 they are trying to torment.

Yeah I've had some of the 1/1/1/15+ squads too. I hope I was an unpleasant surprise for them.

    @DaKnight said:

I don't. Everyone gets stomped learning a new PvP game that's been around a while, that's just how it is.

That's why I have never actually played Rainbow 6 Siege. Because by the time I looked at it and decided I might want to try it, I know by now I will just get smoked by people who know all the maps and I don't feel like investing the time to learn them.

And it's not like it's just killers. I sometimes get rank 15-20's tagging along as part of SWFs, or full lobbies of greens/purples when I am at rank 1.

There was a rank 15 Ash I had in my game the other day that didn't even know what to do when I jumped him as the pig, got 2 tapped, then he died to a double purple add-on head trap. I was thinking in-game "this Ash is really special" until I saw his rank at the endgame screen.

I mean even when I started playing dbd it'd been out for a few years and I'd actually get matched with other people who had no idea what they were doing.

    I also play r6s but I'm garbo

  • @Mikeasaurus said:

This issue is why a friend of mine quit 10 minutes after downloading the game. He downloaded it from the Xbox Gamepass so thankfully he didn't spend anything, but that's still not the point. I suggested Killer because it was more interactive and can be fun. He got a smurf squad SWF team, 1 Rank 16, the rest Rank 1. They even brought OoO for christ sake. Since he was new he didn't realise that they knew everything he did thanks to that single perk. And they knew it. They just taunted at him, flashlighted him constantly, and just overall BM. I don't even bother recommending this game to anyone anymore, hell, I deter them away from it. The fact that new players can be subject to toxic behaviour for peoples own amusement is very telling, especially when the devs allow this to happen.

Yeah both the sneaky change back so that bringing a low-rank friend gets you a low rank killer again (change or bug? It's not like they're especially transparent about this stuff) and allowing ranks 15-20 to end up in games with any ranks to make sure they can get in a match quickly (honestly I think I'd rather just wait longer) make the situation worse imo. I don't recommend to any friends interested that they try learning killer, the time to do that was years ago.

  • Even just having every perk on its own character start at tier 3 and making the first few purchases from the shrine free would make the experience a bit more bearable for new players.

  • Yeah being slugged for the 4k is dull as sh1t, I only do it if going for a challenge or adept. Slugging otherwise is not the most fun thing but a pretty useful tactic as killer sometimes although I have a bad habit of forgetting where I leave them...so my apologies if you were ever one of them

Also I'm all for a bleed out option when slugged for long enough.

  • Rancor roulette - rancor, myc, furtive chase, nemesis (someone on here recommended me it and I altered it) good on doc or spirit

Ultimate fruit ninja - agitation, iron grasp, mad grit, forced penance - on Freddy with pill bottle

All totems - four totems, one of which is either undying or thrill - on spirit with an prayer beads

  • If you get the map randomly and there's an object it's just a coincidence, although a crappy one. If you see a map offering you wouldn't get a matchmaking ban if you force exit the app before loading in but you shouldn't do that either.

  • @RocketPenguin said:

Thought this would be about how people complain about DS but then tunnel when they find out there's no obsession.

Personally I think this is more bhvr fault than anything. Well BBQ and Pop aren't a problem but the other 2 are way too strong if they get used and people will always use whats good so yeah bhvr should nerf op unfun things and they do.... it just takes 2 years

It may not be about that but people who do that shouldn't be complaining about DS at all. 90% of the time I put DS on is because I just had a game with no obsession in it and the usual thing happened.

  • @katoptris said:

I swear that perk combine with dance with me make it sneakier.

    Q&Q + dance with me + lithe = 💗

    I miss my perks :(

  • They should overhaul the main objective. They obviously can't just remove gens from the game with how embedded they are in it but adding a need to find parts or something like that (kinda like FF13 but less rng locations) then reducing the amount of gens needed to complete or increasing their repair speed so it isn't just a massive killer buff and so less of survivor gameplay is just holding down a button.

The whole formula of "survivor wins by doing gens, killer wins by stopping them doing gens" is simple and it's more or less worked but especially after playing for long enough survivor gameplay especially just gets pretty stale. New ways for survivors to advance, more ways for killers to hinder, more opportunity for perks which they'll otherwise completely run out of ideas for.

  • I don't use either so I can whine as much as I like 😇

  • Speaking of I play on steam sometimes now so I request a birthday present of a green mori if you spot me :) I'm still lowrank bc no crossprogression :( but matchmaking does the darndest things
