*laughs in constant fast vaults till the killer finally comes over, just so that vI can t-bag them for a second or two*
-
Very good post, even though it might be a bit too long for those people, to whom it mostly matters. I say one of the most important things is to play both sides, and not just one or two daily rituals, but like 5-10 games. It really opens up your mind for the other sides plight.
I still think that killers complaints hold more water, but there are certain survivor ones that also ring true. And some problems are somewhat linked.
As killer nearly all my fun games were the ones were I tunneled one survivor out asap and I wasn't under constant stress as before with a gen popping every minute like clockwork.
But getting tunneled, especially of the hook if your survivor mate lacks BT, feels super aweful, because you can literally do nothing about it. It sad that gens pop so fast these days that tunneling practically becomes a necessity and if BHVR really shuts it down without any compensation, I don't know what will be left for killers to do, but play Nurse and Blight.
I hope that they will do something like Devour, ie dish out bonuses when you are away from the hook. Imho Devour is the best anti tunnel perk in the game. Sadly it gets cleansed instantly once it gets active, so that's that :/
And I hate few things more then all the talk about "brainless perks", "brainless killers" and "brainless tactics". Yeah, all that stuff might feel "brainless" if your are at the receiving end of the stick, but DH isn't a "press the button and win", you need to learn it or else you will end up as one of this survivors like me that waste their DH in the open or DH into a corner.
Same with "cheap" Nemesis tentacles or Pyramid sneaky shots, those are no instant plug n play, you gotta learn them. Or try OP Blight for yourself and I guarantee that you will end up ij the open, just running out of juice. And then you try to hit a wall and do a cool bounce, just to have the survivors run nowhere where you could bouncy hit them. This stuff needs lots of experience and knowledge ; sure once mastered you can run circles around the survivors, but by that time you earned that!
And looping... Looping aint that easy, fam. Before you can do all that 5 gens looping, you have to fail a few countless times in 15s chases vs a lot of baby Wraith. But when it finally clicks, its an awesome feeling when the killer breaks chase after you loop them for a gen or two, because you are too much a hassle and not worth the effort.
-
I don't know, my soloQ experience ain't that bad. I have very limited SWF games under my belt, so I play mostly soloQ, and most games are totally ok.
Of course you sometimes get doofus survivor mates, but most of the time they come for cool rescues and you for theirs and by now I managed to get into mit MMR were I meet less and less bad survivors.
-
No, but just bring an envelope and reveal it asap and you should get even all in about 11 or 12 matches.

Sometimes people just greed it too much with the box, try to finish just this gen etc. before they make a run for the box and then the chain hunt is already started. In that case you have to dodge the first wave and hope for the best, ie dodge good and use the 12s window to solve the box.
I personally try to get moving to fetch the box when the timer is half full, not later. And it mostly works out ;unless I run into the Cenobite on the way.
-
I don't think that you will get banned for an innocent inquiry like this. Generally I think a post like this doesn't hurt, as it helps everyone to know what's the rules again, so don't worry and just don't push it.
-
I think it's generally frowned upon (of not against the rules) to discuss mods decisions on stuff like that. Maybe ask him when he is back?
Generally bans might result from some misconduct or overstepping ones bounds here. Just try to be a generally nice person and don't personally attack anyone and you shouldn't have any problem in any forum that I ever part of.

There's not a program or machine invented that can tell the difference between a DC and a crash.
To the game, and to every internet-connected system; you just disappear. Crash, power outage, ragequit; it's all the same; it's all your connection goes away.
Until we invent a system that can read your mind; that's all it can ever be. How is the game supposed to know THIS DC was your power going out and THAT DC was you unplugging your PC or router?
But I could swear (might be another Mandela effect) that I have seen people who DCed out of spite in the after game chat berating me for pure life choices and playing killer. This might have happened because they just left the match instead of having actual problems with their internet connection.
-
I remember getting confused about the Crow Food challenge because back then Spies in the Shadows was one of my favorite info perks on Legion (and it still is... super underrated perk imho) and I wrote a ticket about it. When this update dropped I got it without even trying the next match.

Interesting. I might have to play her more often. Might even decide to main her for a while.

How about we implement this changes, but it also deactivates 7min into the game. So gem rushing crews face it, the chill somewhat normal crews that don't give the killer that much a hassle, don't. Staying for 30s in the exit area reactivates the perk.

A lot of people are absolutely convinced that the thing that they had pointed out to them, seen from the Survivor's perspective, must've stuck out as much to the Killer in the middle of the game, huh?
Good grief, how many times have people watched someone else play a game and noticed something the person playing missed? People miss "obvious" stuff a ton. Assuming it's spite and malice with no evidence other than an assumption of the other person's attentiveness to a single decision is ridiculous.
For real. I get juked so often and survivors just disappear from me judt by turning a corner and ducking or something, that I'm pretty happy that I don't stream, otherwise a lot of people would witness the ways I majorly mess up.
-
I had a situation once were a survivor with Boil Over was slugged ans writhing on the floor. I looked hard at them and they stopped writhing. So I picked them up, they immediately started wriggling, so I dropped them again. I tried it two more times till I gave up and let them bleed out.
Normally you can arrange some sort of gentleman's agreement, ie "don't wriggle of and just let me hook you and therefore get a shot at actually playing the game". Most people get the message, but some don't and sport a "never collaborate with the enemy, never surrender, never give up, always fight till the bitter end! Hurdur" attitude. It's petty and just wasting everyone's time, but I am also petty enough not to be the one who will shrugg and happily take the loss.

I said so in the past week and I say it again: that pig gets nerfed all the time is by now a meme and self-deprecating joke, but all this afk pig clowns will get pig nerfed again, and this time legitimately, and the one who will suffer under it ain't the jokesters who jumped on the bandwagon for a quick laugh, but the legit pig mains. What a tragedy in the truest sense of the word.
-
Indeed, I never got hatemail from a killer, only ever from survivors. But this week I got an especially salty and spicy one. The game was Nemesis on Mothers Dwelling vs a 4 SWF group. The game went more or less good, but they had three Boil Overs, so it was one of those games. The Nancy of the team was constantly sabotaging my hooks, preventing a deathhook two times, so I decided to tunnel her out of the game hard, because I had enough. The team noticed and tried their hardest to protect her, to the extent of all 4 running circles around me. This gave me a lot more time at my hands then I ever thought, so afte the second hook the Nancy ran away and jumped into a locker right before my eyes and I camped the locker for one whole minute. Turned out that she was just faking it and hadn't had DS equiped. Cheeky, but she died non the less.
The rest of the team soon followed because they were pretty much all on death hook and seemed to had lost their fighting spirit with one of their buddies out of the game. I gave the last Feng the hatch, but that one was too stuborn to take it and proceeded to insult me in the after game chat, how aweful and distateful my tunneling was and what not. After some bantering I left, but got a spicy messages by that stuborn Feng. I would screenshot it, but its not in english, so I will translate:
"-rep. I never ever faced such a small bastard before, he played like the last b* *** on earth. I hope your parents, who are 99% siblings for sure, die horrible in a fire, so that they must not live on with the shame in their life that is you. I spit on you, you despicable joke of a human being."
I must say that I was a little bit speechless, but I had a good laugh out of it. How can people take a game THAT seriously? I mean, even if every single word is meant in jest, how could you actually write this to someone? This is just unbelievable.

See? Same stuff, slightly different flavor. We are all prone to this kind of behavior and the tough part is figuring out which complaints hold any water and which are just bad players.

If the killer play around perks that don't exist. If he doesn't play around and they are not there, the team get smashed. Even as a killer i experienced it in some matches.
Last game I needed to tunnel out a Nancy, because she was constantly sabotaging my hooks and when she was on Deathhook, she jumped into a locker and I was like "Pffff.... You ain't gonna get away, not after all the crap you pulled on me" and I stood there, looking at her locker for a solid 50s. Then I grabbed her out of it and wasn't hit by DS and killed her! Yay.
Turned out that she didn't have DS at all, but whatever, it was worth it. I still managed a 4K because they played strange and I got the most saltiest of angry comment on my steam profile afterwards. I wear it with honor.

I enjoy chasing and downing survivors. I don't bother learning their names, so as far as fun goes, why would it matter if I'm chasing the same survivor or a new one?
That's another thing: if you insist on playing the same pink top + hoodie Meg or immersed Blendette as one or two of your teammates don't yell at me if I can't keep you apart, because truth be told, I really can't :D
-
@Prex91 said:
It's a tactic, cause most matches gens flying, and tunnel makes pressure, make teammates takes free hit to save the tunneled and concede health States or hooks. Also you need the kill. And tunnel is fun, cause you are in chase. Camp/be camped is not.
This! Gens fly in literal seconds sometimes, but if you tunnel someone and they are on deathhook, chances are that suddenly all 4 survivors come out swarming you in order to save their buddy, not doing any gens in that time and providing you with a lot of free hits and a couple of easy downs. Sometimes you can even snowball this into a 4K out of the blue, it has happened.
But whatever, tunneling is nearly a necessity in todays meta, otherwise you will just lose miserable and be laughed out of the gates.

@espooked said:
how do you counter it besides not get hooked
Don't touch the gens/let go before your friend is hooked. Pain Resonance won't make you scream when you don't touch the gen and DMS won't engulf the gen you are working at the moment if you time a little break right.

Is that really possible? How long would it take to find your teammates? This game is still pretty highly populated, surely just randomly getting matched with friends is unlikely...
Of course, randos can always form a party, but not once have I ever had that happen to me...
"On the count of three we all hit the button. 1.2.3 and goooo! Uh, didn't work, ok, again!" and eventually it works out. Never tried it, but that's how it works with most other games like this.
-
Indeed, DMS is pretty strong... And consistently has an effect, nearly as strong as Grim Embrace, that can proc several times per match, not just once after satisfying a pretty tough condition.
Also Pain Resonance was my game changer: it allows to manage gens while doing your basic objective and you don't have to walk up to the gen PGTW style. It also doubles as a detection tool and gives you a new objective, ie showing you which gen needs your attention and where to find the next survivor, thereby being somewhat anti tunneling. All in all a superb perk.
But besides that a lot of killer issues aren't addressed and playing Killer feels worse and worse, with most powers having clunky mechanics or restrictions.

You got a 3K in five minutes? Sounds like you wanted to sweat for the win on purpose. You created your own outcome.
This is the kind if lack of empathy that you see a lot here, this "hur dur you reap what you sow, you get the kind of game play that yiu deserve. YOU DESERVE THIS!! THIS IS YOUR OWN DOING!!!1111ELEVEN"
I mean on one hand BHVR bends over backwards claiming that this game isn't competitive and that everyone should just chill and have innocent fun, but then they build it and its surroundings like a super competitive esport with SBMM, so that "every game will reflect your skill level and be just perfect."
I never experienced it before DBD that you are that harshly punished for just being a bit above medium good. Are the only options either sweating EVERY SINGLE GAME like its the playoffs are the world championship, or purposefully closing your eyes to opportunities and letting people escape that you could easily catch, just to artificially keep your MMR at a level were you don't sweat?
BHVR has stated time and time again that they don't want to fracture the playerbase with an unranked playmode because they know fully well that no one will wanna play ranked as it is right now.
I mean, I would try it: the new rank rewards are already good enough. Add the rift cosmetics into he mix and maybe a few more goodies each season and people will play it.... but will also have the opportunity to relax at a nice game of unranked.

You know what is the big tragedy of this? Pig getting nerfed every other patch is a meme and self-deprecating joke by now, but this time Pig players are bringing it on themselves, and it's probably not Pig mains, but just some douches who are in for the lulz and the salty-tears-ride till its over.
This add-on combo was fun when it was showcased on that video, but ever since it's just abused to make people angry or frustrated or just rile them up.
THIS is something that you should kill-switch and then, while you come up with a solution, change the head traps so that all for have pre-determined 1-4 boxes assigned to them, like a lot of players already proposed, that's honestly one of the best ideas for Pig (even though it would giveca 1k to afk Pigs each time, which is why this add-on needs 1-3 assigned to its traps).

Trying to get the devour hope challenge from a previous tome on Pig. Any good builds?
Not pig directly, but I figured out that going for that challenge would be a pain, so I brute forced it and tacked every part of it separately.
Devour Hope, Hunted Grounds, Undying and Make your Choice gave me enough opportunities to hit the survivors with exposed, while an iridescent mori let me kill a player by my hands at one point.
Now you just have to hook and move away a few times. If they don't find Devour, you can actually get some value out of it, but I wouldn't count on it, it usually gets found and cleansed pretty fast. With this build I managed to snag me the challenge on first try :)
-
It's kinda a necessity in todays meta. Unless the other team messes up bug time, are noobs or are pursuing other directives (like tormenting/bullying the killer in case of bully squads) you hardly have time for a traditional game, but need to transform the 4v1 into a 3v1 asap!
Normally during the first chase one or two gens will already pop, so you need to keeo the pressure up yourself. Also sometimes, when you tunnel someone hard, the other team mates will try to defend them, giving you even more value and less people on gens.
Normally, when you don't tunnel the game ends pretty decisive in the survivors favor, laughing and "gg ez" ing you out of the gate. After you turn it into a 3v1 early it becomes much more relaxed and manageable.
And circling back to your original question: you might not enjoy tunneling, as you know fully well that the tunneled player won't be having a good time, but getting rediculed and humiliated isn't fun either. And you could ask survivors a similar question, ie if they enjoy a perfect sub 5min game were only one player interacted with the killer.
Todays meta has changed from the original games ideal: not only got both sides new and more effective tools, but also the players attitude and tactics have evolved. Back then people might not have realized that splitting up and doing four different gens is much more effective then hugging one gen at a time, but today that's often the case and sometimes your first chase can, indeed, end with 3 popped gens. Fun right?
-
The idea with Corrupt Intervention and/or a similar protection for the first minute of Hex perks has has been discussed a few times here and could work.
Another idea that I want to throw into the room is something that could be s̶t̶o̶l̶e̶n̶ borrowed from Warframe. In Warframe you have 8 main slots to insert mods that modify your stats, ie your build. I dont want to go into detail, but there are several hundreds of mods, yet only a relatively small number of meta mods that are widely used. In most builds some 5-7 mod slots are already used up by the meta mods. To fight this and allow for a bit of variety somewhere during its live cycle they added a 9th slot that would only load mobility mods, ie mods that modified one of the weaker aspects of the game, letting you glide or slide longer, climb walls or whatever. While there are certain meta mods for the movement slot, its much more open to personal taste and can be experimented with.
Long talk for nothing, we could think about adding something like this to DBD, ie a fifths perk slot that will only slot a certain subsect of the perks. Maybe aura reading or just the rarely used utility perks that give you a very niche advantage. Something thats probably not meta, but fun to experiment with.
Of course, people would always find the strongest combination of everything, but I would like to have some more freedom to try out some of the more niche or situational perks without hamstringing myself.
-
Yeah, it sure feels good as a, survivors to just play normally and get around 50k points, but why, Why, WHY do killers slack behind so much? Isn't this event supposed to be generous in general and whish everyone luck and prosperity? So why does it feel like killers get shafted hard?
You don't wanna get accused of catering to survivors, while ignoring the killers plight? Then don't make stuff like this happen, for everyone with eyes easy to see.
-
Well, you heared it yourself: apparently you are just a single trash. Decide for yourself if that means "piece" or "can" or even "bin" or "heap". Don't forget your tunnelshovel, to ease the way.
But on a more productive note, I tried it time and time again, but in today's meta and especially with the overabundance of the strong event toolboxes, as Killer you need to get rid of a survivor ASAP! You can't effort to gently hook one survivor after another and then maybe have a tree hook by gen-count 1. What ever your metric of winning or fun in this game is, but by playing "by the book" you will most certainly lose miserably and be laughted out of the gate, escorted by a tremendous flashlight clicking show and a Broadway-worthy twerking and booty shaking.
It sucks for the tunneled survivor, but just today I had a game where I had a timer running from the beginning of the match, and I kid you not, by 55s into the game the first gen popped. I mean, at that moment I was still getting my bearing and getting closer to the survivor I was hunting.
That sub 1min gen was so devastating to my morale. And the icing was that they got something planned. I don't know what, but 3 survivors DCed, yet still were present in the after game chat.
-
I was always a proponent that the killer should be able to push though bodyblocking survivors with maybe 30% speed. The total blocking of movement is so wack and totally out of character. I acknowledge that its a sort of tactic, but dayum!
And the same could be done if a killer bodyblocks a survivor for more then 60s? Then they can slowly push them away till they can use the Jigsaw box.
-
... and once it clicks and your learn how to loop halfway decent, the killers will scramble for scraps, beg for mercy and be your plaything.
-
I am pretty sure that this kinda game play wasn't intended, but player will always come up with creative solutions and applications, like crouching behind a killer after a pickup or bodyblocking the hook in concert l, etc.
That being said even though I think the meme video is kinda funny, it's not a good way to "play" and pretty aweful. Its on the same level as "all in, full seal bully squads": you might laufgh your arse off, but the other side is just wasting their (miserable) time till its finally over.
Pig getting nerfed YET again is a sort of meme and self depreciating joke by now, but what can you do besides asking players politely not to do so?
This could be THE opportunity for us killers to show our greatness and that we stand head and shoulders above petty squabbles and spite... But I guess our bad apples, few or many, will still do what they gotta do in order to ruin a few matches for others. At least it will be over with pretty fast.
-
The best are the ones with a secret endgame build, though. Had this only encountered once, but I had a good laugh.
Was on the now defunct Hawkins map, AFK trapper, just hitting the air in front of him. After a while everyone was farming a few hits and escapes from him, and altruism for healing the hit survivor back up. Gens were slowly done. Then when the last gen poped, Trapper-kun exploded into action, NOEDed everyone in front of him and hunted down the two of us loitering around the exit gates. It was quick, decisive and brutally effective, because no one was prepared for it :D
I had to drop my head for that style and clever planning and it instilled a distrust of AFK killers in me. I now open the gates ASAP and leave and dont bother roaming around to open one more box etc.

All four survivors were way to busy to keep their friends alive and the team together, then be doing gens and I finished two games in a row with 4 gens remaining.
It felt strangely cathartic and the doubts, that had been gnawing at the back of my mind, evaporated like thin fog in the morning sun, but somewhat more dark and gloomy, I am sure you can come up with a suitable linguistic metaphore or picture yourself.
