Some of you killer mains are seriously so damn boring. Like a robot you are thinking of the 4k. You all (survivors too) need to chill and try to have fun rather than that stupid "I NEED TO WIN OR ELSE 111" attitude. I will never understand this tryhard sweat thinking. Do people need it for their ego? For attention? Jeez

You are right. Though the same is also true for many survivors (as you stated yourself). How often do survivors say to themselves "you know what? That killer really struggled with us and only got 3 hooks all game. Lets just leave and not go for the rescue, but award that killer with a singel kill :)".

Pain Res got reverted though. Before the nerfs to those favourite perks, killers still tunneled. Killers claimed they had no choice but to tunnel because of gen speeds.

The devs increased gen times because of this claim, and nerfed regression perks because it would be rather unfair to only increase gen times. Then killers moved the goal posts and said it's because their regression perks got nerfed.

Killers are constantly harping on about how survivors need to adapt, but don't want to do so themselves, and are surprised when survivors actually do adapt. (Insert surprised pikachu face)

Pain Res got a bit of a bad reputation because it was used by so many killers in so many builds, but frankly SH: PainRes was the single perk that saved playing killer for me during the killers dark days, when DH hold the game in its strangehold and the survivors were just sooo oppressive. With SH: PainRes I could regress gens on the fly, apply some pressure and gain at least a little breathing room. On the plus side it also gave this wonderful explosion and therefore a clear next opjection: go to this gen, its the one with the most progress!

Just like BBQ, the explosion of SH: PainRes made me nearly automatically leave the hook. Now it feels very empty and strange: you hook someone .. and nothing. Did it work? Which gen should I go to next? Is there some survivor around? What should I eat tonight? For now I will stay here and look around.

In the most recent patch they brought back the screaming, but that isn't accompanied by a notification, so for dumb me it brings nothing to the table. I know that the combo of SH: PainRes+DMS was very strong, so I don't really understand why they semi ressurected it. In my book it would have been way healthier if they had done away with the screaming and throwing off gens part of the perk, but kept the explosion. This way the killer would have a clear objective again, but didn't know if they would find a survivor at the other side. The survivors could stay and try to finish the gen or sneak away and hide or go for the rescue. All in all this would be much better then the current state of the perk.

With the next update, the basekit bt will be increased to 10 seconds, and 10% of haste, with bt this will be 20 seconds, that it is really unfun in my opinion. Devs want to punish killer for tunneling and camping, but they never asked themselves "Why killers camp and tunnel?".

The answer is easy: because in high MMR is the only tactics accepted to win against 90% of the survs, because the insane gen speed (caused also by prove thyself, that needs a huge nerf).

So I have a question: why Devs continue to find ways to punish killers for tunneling, instead of find ways to incentivize mixed hooks?

In my opinion, they could make that more survs alive, less gen speed, less survs alive, more gen speed. This will fix tunneling, because you don't want a surv dead early game, because it would mean giving survs more gen speed. At the same time, you don't want to camp for the same reason, if you kill someone early game you find yourself with survs that do gens quicker.

I personally always advocated for a "Devour Hope"-esque mechanic that gives the killer some kind of buff, so that they don' hinder themselves for going for 12 hooks. Devour Hope in itself is a pretty healthy perk, as it incentivises the killer to leave the hook and roam around far away. Some with old BBQ: everyone had it equipped because of the blood point gains, and the during gameplay they just naturally left the hook in order to chase some far away survivor whoms aura they saw.

I would try something like giving the killers a minor BBQ as baseline, ie after hooking show them the aura of the furthest away survivor and give them a +10% or even +15% haste effect to traverse the map as long as they generally move towards that survivor, are outside of a chase and not within 16m of the highlighted survivor.

As a second basekit I would make The Entity eat 5% of every gens progress once everyone is hooked once and 10% if everyone is hooked twice. Or maybe block every gen for a couple of seconds, ie a small Grim Embrace style lockdown. Grim Embrace btw is also a cool and healthy concept, but bad execution. Its really hard to do, especially if the last survivor tries to be stealthy. Maybe we could also change Grim Embrace, so that it shows the auras of non-hooked survivors and shows the aura of the last survivor intermittendly every 30s or so, OoO-style.

There could also be a "Devour-Hope"-style token system in place called The Entities blessing that awards you a token for every unhooking that takes place with the killer being 24m+ away and that award some minor buffs to the killer, chosen at random from a list.

Ideally we should not only punish camping and tunneling, but also reward the opposite and find ways for killers to WANT to play that way, without making the rewards too oppressive.

Everybody is giving up/disconnecting when they see survivors that play SWF and abuse STRONG loops, and for good reason. It is literally impossible to fight an even somewhat decent looper in those zones, let alone with medkits with instaheal, and people are starting to catch on to how simple looping is to do (sometimes isn't even necessary for the huge amount of pallets present in the map btw). Playing SWF in the current state is like playing easy mode - you're actively choosing to make a guy's day absolutely miserable by stacking the odds so far in your favor its nearly impossible to lose unless you go against the hardcore nurses with thousand of hours.

Just give SWF a rest. We get it. There's nothing wrong with occasionally playing with your friends, pulling out the OP stuff every once in a while. But please don't keep putting the rest of us through these guaranteed meat grinders every single game, especially not when aganist a chill killer.

As an open letter to SWF players, I'm asking you to switch things up a bit. Play Dead by Daylight as solo survivor instead of 4E by genrush and loop. Please.

:) <3 You should make this into its own post. We would have salt for years to come.

As an open letter to nurse mains, I'm asking you to switch things up a bit. Play Dead by Daylight instead of 4K by Slugging. Please.

Nurse might be overtuned, thats right, but thats the Devs job to figure out. I find it increadible wholesome how so many people here, many of whom play lots of survivor, are jumping in to defend the Nurse, because YOU are in the wrong here.

Just for a little perspective: a while ago having to face 3/4 DH literally every second game (quite verified, not made up stats like "facing a Nurse every single game") was making killer gameplay a chore and many killer mains second guessing their life choices, leading to the massive killer exodus that lead to the (by now in-)famous patch 6.1 Those survivors could very much have stopped playing with DH, especially in combo with other meta perks and strong items, yet the vast majority of them did.

I am not saying that "playing sweaty Nurse now is payback time", but that no side is free of chosing strong options and that a certain kind of people gravitate towards the more easier pathes in life. I for myself played Nurse today for the first time in month, just so that I could finish the current tomes Nurse challenge. She just isn't my cup of tea, so I will suffer through some unwinable matches, just so that I can enjoy the more balanced ones with best boi Pyramid Head and best girl Spirit :)

It is suppose to hurt killers for tunneling. If the perk doesn't hurt the killer than what was the point of running it. Even before the change I got value out of DS only 10% of the time. The idea that you had DS was more powerful than the perk itself. We have gotten to a point where DS is so irrelevant people tunnel because they know you have nothing.

Back in the days I had always a timer running on my second screen and made a mental note when I downed a survivor. And there were legit times when a survivor would jump into a locker in front of my eyes and I waited 20s, just to make sure that I could kill them; sometimes it even turned out that they had no DS.

And then there was this one time were I had three survivors slugged on The Game and I was so burned by DS that I waited that extra minute just to make sure that could savely hook everyone.

Nowadays, if a survivor really tried to get under my skin and I want to tunnel them out I jut pick them up. Most of the time no one is running DS anymore, and in the rare cases that I get hit by it, even by M1 killers its more like a nuisance.

  • @Shroompy said:

because it just hurt the killers who didnt need to be hurt by it the most like Trapper, Pig, etc. While barely having an effect on high mobility killers like Nurse or Blight.

I think it should go to 4 seconds for a nice middle ground

Or maybe do something mindblowing and let DS have a different effect on different killers. Give it a 6s stun vs Nurse and Blight, 5s against other high mobility killers, and 3-4 against low-tier and middle of the road killers.

I know that BHVR isnt a big fan of this approach, as they want all the perks to be working the same way all the time, but honestly, by now the roster is so varied that you can't just apply the blanket solution to all of them. Pull on one end just a tiny bit and you lay bare something on the other end.

I feel all the Nurse bashing has created a lot of Nurse mains. I've personally seen a huge increase in Nurses over the past 6 months. It's not surprising really, a portion of the player base see's all these hate posts and wants to get in on the action.

Also don't forget that we have a Nurse tome challenge ("Hit 6 survivors right after blinking in one game"). Today I played Nurse for the first time in nearly a year, just to get that challenge done. I blundered through the game and just counted hits ^^ I was so bad, but in the end got an accidential 3k, that no one saw coming, so I will tell the story, even though its not strictly on topic:

during the EGC a survivor on death hook went for an unsave unhooking and got subsequently killed. I chased the others around and finally cornered and hooked the one super elusive player that had danced on my nose for the entire game. I was pretty sure that I had my 6 blink hits by then, so when the survivor kobe-ed I nodded to him and let him run past me, suggesting that I let him "off the hook". Another survivor had come for a very late rescue attempt and both of them were running towards the exit gates and actually died due to the timer while inside the exit gate area ^^"

I felt bad for them but everyone was a good sport about it, because me respecting the kobe didn't go unnoticed.

  • @CluelessWanderer said:

That's a selfish build. Then again, BHVR is encouraging selfish play in Solo Q for whatever reason, and punishing altruism.

If I recall correctly they are at least changing the MMR loss and gain to a team-wide number instead of counting every single survivor as a seperate vs the killer match. This way, if you indeed run the killer for 5 gens and then die on hook, you helped letting 3 other peeps escape and not suffer in MMR hell yourself.

Would be nice if they did something similar with blood points, I guess?

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

Basment trapper is legitimately the most boring, anti-fun, anti-skill play style for solo queue. I went down with 2 gen remaining after a 3 gen chase and got left on the hook until death. I think solo queue survivors should have a base kit version of kindred to heavily punish facecamping killers, but to also give enough information against camping oriented killers like trapper and bubba. Trapper could still make use of clever trap placement around strong tiles, but would be at a disadvantage if they wanted to trap every entrance point around a basement.

While you got my sympathy, here is a hot solution: as a soloQ survivor you can vastly increase your chances of getting rescued/survival and heavily punish camping in one fell stroke ... by just equipping the perk Kindred.

Unironically, try running Kindred/Bond/OpenHanded and a perk of your choice and live the soloQ dream.

  • As you see, OP, the core concept could be workable, but the implementation faces more problems and pitfalls then you anticipate at first.

Since we have this thread going… Has any one else noticed a significant increase in Pinhead finding the box at game start? I have found that about 50% of my matches vs pinhead start this way lately, whereas it used to be maybe 5%? My assumption is that there is a trick to figuring out where the box spawns at game start that has gone public, just like there are patterns to where survivors usually spawn… maybe I’m wrong… but if others have noticed this lately, maybe I’m right… thanks…

The Box spawns max distance away from the survivors and Pinhead. If you got some gaming sense and use Lethal Pursuer you can get a good approximation of were the box shall spawns. Head over there and just keep looking for a survivor to intercept.

Bonus Points if you equip Hoarder, in order to get a notification on pickup; combos well with Franklin's Demise to knock the box outa some pesky survivor's hands.

its not so much her underestimating you, its you confusing her.

its like how killers will hide red stains, but the survivor is the one who does the mindgaming and the killer is the one who either falls for it or not

I second that. Against a nurse every blink turns into a mind game. Make her waste more blinks then she lands and eventually your team might pull ahead or she might even brake chase.

I usually double back two times, against most nurses this works surprisingly well. After this I fake it but actually hold W. After this I surprise myself how I react. Some games I totally fall flat with this tactic, others I make the nurse look like a bumbling idiot who is too afraid to look me in the eyes and instead just stares at her feet.

One of my fondest dbd memories was a game were the killer was apparently afk,n one got into any chase and we just did the gens.

Then suddenly, when all 5 gens were done and everyone's did their various last minute totem cleansing and chest opening and one already opened the doors, one survivor went from healthy to dying and got immediately hooked.

Turned out that there was a basement chest defender Bubba the whole time. Saw an unhooking and another one dying and getting hooked.

I went down there and the Bubba vigorously shaking his head. One of the survivors was obviously in a SWF with the hooked survivor and soon we had two survivors on the hook.

The Bubba shock his head again and reeved his chainsaw, but didn't attack me. So I nodded my head and walked past the hook and next to Bubba. He seemed puzzled at first, but then nodded and we both watched the squirming survivors die together.

Afterwards I waved him goodbye, he reeved his saw for me in a decidedly friendly manner and I made it out of the exit gates in time.

There's a vast difference between throwing a match to camp and camping to secure what may be the only kill.

I don't see any problems with killers being able to defend a baiting objective. The devs, by popular demand, have deemed hooks to be of no priority for balancing purposes. Whether 1 or 12 hooks it doesn't matter, only the number of kills.

If survivors really want something done about camping in a meaningful way; encourage the devs to focus on match context and move the focus to a healthy flow of allowing the killers to 3 hook everyone (Not just inefficient teams).

    One can dream, at least.

  • Oh, interesting usage of that add-on, pretty creative.

But of course, I don't condone such scummy tactics to get under the other sides skin :P

I would rather they address camping on a fundamental level than introduce a bandaid fix. That’s my main problem with it because it shows that BHVR isn’t learning from the past.

That said, I don’t have an issue with Reassurance being strong until that happens. I do think it should probably be disabled in endgame though since expecting the killer not to camp in endgame is stupid.

Reassurance feels to me like Shattered Hope: its a bandaid fix to those who really really hate Boons/Camping, it should probably be basekit and you won't be getting value out of your perk every game, which can feel like a waste most of the time.

  • @Carth said:

A survivor getting caught out in a bad position can turn that into a benefit now by doing a drive by reassurance that can in turn enable their teammates to stay on gens for an extra 10-15 seconds which in turn can mean the difference between a win and a loss. The killer in this scenario wasn't even camping let's say, but found the survivor while moving away from the hook. The idea that only campers will be effected by this perk is very much false. I do think it is worth it to combat the sheer amount of face-camping and camping in general out there, but it will for sure be a pain point for non campers as well.

But even if you as an accidental roamer get affected by it and the perk prevents some survivor from slipping into the next hook state, that's still one survivor on the hook and another one doing the drive by.

Its like in the old days when you gey hit by a 56s old DS: you might be irritated, but actually this situation was more beneficial to you.

So far I don't see much bad potential for my killer games, BUT I also don't underestimate survivors ability to weaponize ANY tool. We'll wait and see.
