They aren't asymmetrical.
You have no way of proving that. The game would still be fine. As it is, DBD is already unintuitive and janky, but still does well. Balance primarily affects people who know how to play. Kinda like how the devs showed the DS escape rates stayed literally the same after it was nerfed. Most people aren’t good enough for it to matter.

DBD isn't, shouldn't be and never will be a competitive game.
Balance around comp players and watch it die.
So why do other games that balance for comp do better than dbd?

Yes, because Nurse is easy to learn and is an automatic win yet, somehow, her kill rates are not out of sync with the rest if the Killer roster. The posters who are obsessed about Nurse somehow can't see the contradiction in this. If she's easy to learn and an automatic win why aren't her kill rates and pick rates higher?
These contradictory opinions being held should be enough to show that it's a personally held bias instead of an actual argument. The real reason why Nurse doesn't get nerfed is the same reason why new DH doesn't get nerfed; she was nerfed before, is still strong, but not strong enough to either warrant further nerfs and/or the cumulative data doesn't show any problems that warrant priority over more pressing issues.
Stop! This is too much logic for the average poster on here.

Oh, I'm one of those nurses, absolutely. Lethal pursuer, I'm on your ass in 6 seconds, it's all vision perks, all the time. Distorion helps but not enough. If you're a good nurse, you can beat anyone and unless you're up against really really good survivors, even a decently competent nurse will wreck shop against 90% of teams
Sounds fine to me. You should wreck 90% of people if you are better.

If you're determined to tunnel, that's your prerogative. It's not against the rules, so no one can stop you.
But the sentiment that you have to tunnel to win is waaaay overstated, and based on the misapprehension that many people have that they are always facing SWFs or comp teams. The reality is that regardless of how high your MMR is (and it isn't as high as you think; it never is), most of the teams you face aren't going to be all that great. Your opposition isn't as consistently good as you (or anyone) think it is.
So the out of the gate tunneling just isn't necessary like 90% of the time. It's just overkill, and inconsiderate of other players.
If I knew out of the gate I was facing a high tier SWF (and in a spicy mood, or had money on the line), then I might consider tunneling the first surv I see. But I don't know, and don't do that. If I am getting my ass handed to me midmatch, then yeah, I might remove someone. But I don't care that much, especially in an imbalanced mess like DBD, which is about as far from being geared toward direct comp as a multiplayer game could be.
Give the match some time so you can gauge how good the survs actually are before you go full sweatlord.
If you're invested in that 4K, so terrified at the prospect of losing that you are going to come out of the chute in every match laser focused on the most efficient route to winning, then my advice would be to chill the hell out.
The same applies to survs, who can be just as bound up about that escape as any killer is about their 4K. Winning in DBD really isn't all that important.
Winning isn’t important…..to you. I was with you until you decided to make judgements about people who don’t share your mentality.

Killer has always been easier for the ones willing to bring the strongest perks. I remember the stomping killers did with the various versions of Ruin, and how it was used by players who were more than capable of killing everyone even without stacked slowdowns. Even the worst skilled killers will kill if given enough time. This is probably why 3 gen stacked slowdown is so popular and is being used by players who would do well without them. It is their "insurance" and it makes for long and soul-crushing games that are not reflections of skill.
I enjoy the shorter matches of high intensity.
I’m not sure why you are criticizing people who stack slowdowns. Killers don’t use those as “insurance”; those perks are needed to do well against experienced survivors. The killer also can’t tell the skill level of the group right away (a point that Scott gets completely wrong) so they have to prepare for the worst.

@Pulsar said:
Because most people don't have time to do that.
Most players are casual. They play a couple hours a week. They want to log on and have fun, if the game requires them to put in hundreds of hours in order to have a semi-okay experience, they'll just move on.
If the game isn't fun for most of your playerbase, it will die.
This isn’t true at all, as evidenced by the fact that most games balance around the best players. These games also sell significantly better than DBD btw.
-
Nurse is fine, and so is starstruck. Neither of those are the reason people are losing; it’s a skill isue.

Survs want multiple and long chases, preferably starting each chase with full health.
But what they (really) want even more is... to win the game. Which is fine, as killer i want this too.
It is fine to want to win, my problem is that most survivors don’t acknowledge that by saying they want to have fun, they are often saying they want to win in the easiest way possible, hence the ridiculous Deathslinger and Hillbilly nerfs. Killers are guilty of this too, but I see it way more on the survivor side on this forum.

@INoLuv said:
No, the killer should play for the fun of the survivor, Otz says the killer is a scumbag if he tunnels, killers are #########, toxic and sad people in real life that want power trip if they dont think about the fun of the survivors
More reason not to listen to Otz or any other streamer who thinks they are right because their opinion is “in the middle.” It’s lazy thinking.

Friendly reminder that comp level squads being rare doesn’t make it ok to balance the game around people who can’t play.

What makes you think that it is not? Saying that other people are bad in this game in an attempt to deceive a real problem in the game that has been highlighted for years seems offensive to me. "Advice"?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3277987#Comment_3277987
This doesn't seem an advice, but a explicit provocation.
When did I refused to listen? I read your comments and I refuted some of your arguments, and I added new factors to the conversation. No one should be obligated to be a professional gamer to have a normal match against a nurse, that's my point. I recognize the existence of some tactics, but they request a lot of time and effort that most of part of the plays don't have to spend. The management of the game should benefit this segment as such.
If the Nurse player has more experience and has put in more work than you, you deserve to lose. Period. The day that someone who barely plays this game is able to compete and win against people that have put in work is the day that I uninstall. You aren’t entitled to feel competitive against veteran players.

- 2 Circle of Healings.
- 3 Medkits (2 styptics).
- Eyrie of Crows offering.
They instantly gave up when I started camping when some were running around and others were doing totems.
Imagine I played anyone but Nurse or Blight.
Feel good that whatever Survivors bring, Nurse can always win.
How dare you play to win! Don’t you know you’re supposed to play a killer that can be mercilessly looped?

My point there is in regards to her skill ceiling, that's all she has to do because the muscle memory doesn't take long to get down. Blight has to learn the power, learn the tiles, learn all the collision on every map, learn how to read survivors and the icing on the cake is everything tech related but that just come with a little practice just as nurse. This game is not that difficult and while nurse isn't easy to pick up, it doesn't take long. All I'm saying is her power level isn't justified for what her power is.
Looping is the most skillful thing survivor's can do, scratch that the only truly skillful thing survivor's can do. While I think m1 killers and pure anti loop killers should never be added again due to their lack of skill expression, looping should be involved. You know character's that force you to loop or die and there's like 3 of those including nurse though in reality holding w and breaking LoS can't be considered looping lol.
The problem is, I don’t think looping is very skillful- it’s mostly memorizing tiles. M1 killers are bad because even the best player with those characters stands no chance of stopping the survivor in a reasonable amount of time. DBD as intended is a broken design. The only reason the game holds together is that most of the playerbase is bad.

@Sava18 said:
I mean in regards to (E). We know Nurse is the strongest killer in the game, every player on both sides agrees. Every killer put's you in situations where there is nothing you can do for the most part, the weaker killers far less than the stronger killers. Nurse does that more than any other killer. What baffles me is when making blight they tested his rush hits being basic attacks and it was way too strong. Currently what make's nurse unfair is the fact that she can insta-down you with her blinks. And don't give me that " but all she can do is blink", yeah that's correct play 5 game's and you will have most the muscle memory down and realize that she starts recharging her blinks while fatiguing. She has the highest skill floor, but her skill ceiling really just come's down to reading survivor's and nothing else.
(D) hag and blight come to mind here as well.
“Just comes down to reading survivors”- in other words, the way the game should be? Or do you think survivors running in circles and pre dropping safe pallets is good gameplay?

Ok, but is playing against pub players a competitive setting? No. Ive played in a comp setting before and it might as well be a different game. You go into a game with a completely different mindset and ruleset.
(These might of changed, I havent been in the comp scene for a while, nor have I been keeping up with the comp scene) As a killer your big point makers are fresh hooks. Each fresh hook is worth 3 points and each stage after that is worth 2. Some one who hooked every one once and got 2 people to death hook would be worth 16 points. That is the same amount of points you would get if a killer got 2 people killed and only those 2. It may look like the 2nd killer did significantly better, but its the exact same performance in both instances.
Also EVERY killer has little neat things that you can do. The number of things vary dependent on which killer were talking about and how impactful they are. Im talking about things like old Sky Billy, Hug Tech for Blight, etc. Some of these things arent as impactful, may have more of a niche use, but definitely still make an impact when done correctly
You proved my point by saying “neat little things.” Aside from a few things here and there, the skill ceiling in this game is very low. You again further proved my point by the “it’s not comp” mentality. Really experienced survivor players can make a game feel like comp. If a killer is not viable against top level competition, then they aren’t viable period. There is no point in talking about balance if we are speaking about people who don’t know the game.

its just people dont like putting in the effort to learn a new killer who wont yield the same results right away and is punished more for their mistakes
You don’t know the game if this is truly your opinion. Non-nurse, blight killers get mud stomped in a competitive setting, and there’s ample video footage to show this. Your comment about “getting better” is also bizarre because there isn’t much to do as killer other than learn how to play tiles and structures. The main problem with killer is that it is too limited, which is also why Nurse is the best, because she is the only one who can overcome killer limitations.

Have you considered that even with the "counterplay" it's still not fun to play against? Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather face her than dredge or a few others, but let's not pretend that being able to ignore 99% of game mechanics was a good design idea.
In the right hands, she's not even worth touching the controls against. In mediocre hands, yeah you can play around it a bit. In feeble hands, it's a free escape. Only one of those three scenarios does what you do matter.
Well actually, I think the intended “mechanics” of god loops and crazy strong pallets are awful design, so I think Nurse is good design.

These posts. Right now. Proving the devs right when they said to take the stats with a giant grain of salt.
It has been explained why nurse does not mesh well with stats, and here these posters are using those same stats to say she is fine.
D/c's not being included, console users being included, and players at high MMR learning nurse MASSIVELY reduce her kill rate.
You know literally none of that because the devs have not said anything about it….it’s 100% speculation on your part, not evidence

You're really good at just deflecting, and never actually responding to holes in what you say. If you can't even speak on the subject, just don’t respond.
You are completely missing the point. I would agree that Nurse is the best killer in the game. My point is that Nurse is not doing anything special, even at top level mmr. The way people talk on this forum, you would expect her kill rate at top level to be 90%. That is clearly not the case and you have no way of arguing around that. If you are saying we should nerf her because of .01% of Nurse mains are dominating, then the whole game should be balanced on that. You can’t pick and choose.
-
@Omans said:

It is a statistical improbability that a tournament player and someone who has been high up in multiple categories on the stats site (was #4 in hatches closed, top 20 for a long time until I couldn't play as much) is in the top 5 percent?
It is already proven that those stats mean literally nothing to nurse. Why do you keep mentioning that?
I feel like this is bizzaro world, these forums. People who don't have experience in something trying to insist to those that do that everything is/isn't fine.
There isn't a single piece of evidence that nurse is fine. What is there, though? Consistent displeasure for years about how oppressive she is, by players who are at a high level. But I guess she is fine because you 4-outted a nurse a few times.
People complaining about a character isn’t evidence; it’s whining. The stats however are evidence. Nurse at top 5% mmr isn’t killing more than anyone else, which means that if she is dominating , it’s probably at the like top 1%. If she is going to be balanced based on the top 1%, then the rest of the game needs to be balanced the same way. You have literally no argument other than you and others don’t like losing to her.

See, I know the problems with survivor imbalance, and can fully own up to those problems. And I don't see Killers as a whole as a problem, just Nurse. Deflection in full force by going straight to a Survivor problem instead of explaining how to actually counter Nurse, which none of you ever seem to be able to do.
"Here's what Survivors do outside of gen rush to beat me:" said no Nurse defender ever.
If they nerfed her and buffed all the other Killers, I wouldn't even bat an eye.
Of course you don’t see other killers as a problem- there is literally nothing they can do against strong tiles. Counterplay has already been addressed: predict where she will blink, break her line of sight
-
@Orochi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3236026#Comment_3236026
Okay? It's still a guess as opposed to ACTUAL counterplay. The way Nurse works, you basically guess rather than mind game since she defies all the physical limitations all the other killers deal with.
I honestly liked playing against Nurse before the big patch. It was a fun challenge, and I didn't even need Dead Hard to outplay her (which I think is a huge reason others are having so much trouble with her now). But to adjust so many things favorably for the Killer in general and not adjust the strongest killer in the game? She just feels gross to play against now, especially with exposed perks.
ACTUAL counterplay is not what you’re implying. God pallets and structures actually have no gameplay or counterplay on the killer side. The killer is forced to eat through pallets, by which time a competent team has done the gens. Nurse is one of the few killers in the game that has actual mind games that give each side a chance to guess right.
-
@Orochi said:

Counterplay to Nurse: make lucky guesses the whole match
Guesses aren’t lucky: they require you to get inside of the other person’s head. If guesses were all about luck, pros from other games wouldn’t be consistently successful. The best players are always in the running, if not winning.

Stats only matter when you say they do.
I guess Dredge is one of the best killers? Or Wesker is supremely OP, eh? No to either one, so you should know that these stats aren't telling even close to the whole story.
My point here is that she clearly isn’t a problem or dominating the game like everyone here says. If what people say is true, then Nurse only dominates at the top .001%. Most say that the game shouldn’t be balanced around that level, so therefore this discussion should be over.

But PLEASE, for the LOVE of GOD, explain to me why it's okay that post-blink hits are counted as basic attacks. Name a single reason that SHOULDN'T be a special attack. I IMPLORE you, and literally everybody on this forum, to paint me the numbers on that one.

- BHVR said themselves not to take the stats at face value
The talking point on this forum has always been that her kill rate is so low because of noobs picking her, which I agree with. But these stats suggest that even at high mmr, she is not the most effective. There is no good excuse; people are just wrong about her being a problem.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3233432#Comment_3233432
I wouldn't argue SWF is fine at the moment so much as I would argue that there really isn't much BHVR can do about the strength of SWF since so much of that strength comes from simply having access to comms, and the ability to plan out what your entire team's bringing as opposed to what just you are bringing like in solo.
One idea I had one night to buff solo que to put it on-par with SWF, so they can even the scales even just a little bit, is to just.. Let survivors see their team's loadouts in the lobby. Now, I'm no code-brainer, but I imagine that wouldn't be ENTIRELY too difficult to implement, since at least one part of that loadout is already fully visible (items) and the rest is just some perk/offering icon UI.
As for Nurse,
I can't say her potential is "higher" than SWF, since I've witnessed firsthand some damn-brutal SWFing that made me literally unable to play the game as a fairly strong killer like Artist just by three people camping a pallet with top-tier flashlights, Any Means Necessary, etc., making it so I'm kinda just screwed no matter what I do, but what I can say,
EASILY the most needed nerf to Nurse is just to have blink attacks count as specials and not basics. It's... Honestly kinda baffling that they still haven't implemented that yet, seeing as even Blight's lethal rushes are counted as specials, and far, FAR weaker killers also have healthstate-dealing attacks that aren't M1s counted as specials despite, on paper and in practice, being pretty damn similar to an M1 (Pig's dash for example, AKA M1 with extra steps).
And also,
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3233414#Comment_3233414
- BHVR said themselves not to take the stats at face value
- That's lowest kill rate in the game AT ALL MMR, meaning pablogonzales2004 who just installed the game yesterday and happened to pick nurse also contributes to that statistic, as do more experienced players who try nurse a couple times and go "Man, I'm just losing over and over and over, I'm just gonna not do this and stick to a killer I can land a single attack with".
You left out the fact that she is not even top 5 at the highest mmr. She is fine, people just like to complain
-

Both, but I think it should be leaning a bit on casual side, because from looking at that the majority of players, (which are the casual players) going against a strong killer that just destroy them, they just don't want to play. They give up or just DC and it hurts me to look at it.
I'm not insanely a comp player, but a skilled one, who just wants to play the game and still win.
Do you not see the contradiction in what you just said? You’re a casual but skilled and want to win. You can’t have it both way. If skill is what you care about, the game needs to be balanced around sweaty players. If you’re just casual, losing shouldn’t matter.

Why should her power work as anti-loop when she is not an anti-loop killer?
Not sure what you are trying to get at.
I’m getting at that she has no power. Her stealth is even more obvious than other stealth killers. GF and wraith also have other benefits to their power (instadown, antiloop speed boost.) Sadako has literally nothing

I still don’t understand how Sadako is that bad.
I have so much fun with this character, and it’s strange to me that a handful find her weak. Like I get her TV power could be tweaked but what else? I just do not see it.
I don’t think she needs to be S tier to be enjoyable.
What is her power? Other than the tvs, which can be taken away, she has literally nothing. Her power doesn’t work as anti loop, and she isn’t stealthy because you can hear her coming. Worthless.

Where to blink with rocks and trees ? do i blink behind the rock or through the rock same with trees they can be confusing cause they run forward or double back from where i last see them or they run all around the rock and run back that way? Is it just a guess or always behind the rock or to the side of the rock where i last see them or through the rock ? Thanks
It’s a guess. You either blink to where they last were or through the rock if you think they are going to keep running
