I believe Op wants to now play David due to his sexuality but hasn't leveled him up and is willing to trade Steve for a lvl 50 king

...you're absolutely right, I completely misread that.

    Whoopsy!

  • My Apologies OP, I completely read the thread wrong

  • The game itself for both sides seems to be in a very bad place at this point but unfortunately, I have no idea how you fix it. Power Creep has basically broken the game now and it feels like short of a complete tear down and rebuild of...well...like.....everything, I don't know if it is fixable at this point.

Some of this is the nature of these kind of games. Some it is BHVR making awful awful decisions. Some of it is just that there are far too many options and the game itself is bloated to hell. But whether it's one big thing or death by a thousand paper cuts, the game seems to have fallen apart and I don't know how they're going to fix it.

Honestly, much like my last car, I feel like BHVR has internally acknowledged this fact and instead of trying to fix this situation (since this is such a mess that it's going to take a lot of time and effort and money to do so), they're just gonna ride the game into the ground and get what they can out of it.

You really going to sit there and pretend you can't reach a loop in time?

That doesn't affect my point at all. I suppose if you can get to a loop, you might buy yourself another couple of seconds but any killer worth their salt that wants to tunnel will just stick to your ass until the timer runs out and then smack you. The very best case scenario is you get to a pallet and camp it until the very last second to slam it down.

Right now with how BT works, as you go through a window or get to a pallet, a tunneling killer has to take the gamble and either swing and give you the BT speed boost through the area and let you escape or they wait and possibly waste time on a survivor who isn't actually protected by BT. But if everyone has BT, the tunneling killer will know it and know exactly how long they have to wait to smack you back down.

Oh, that one ☺️. How many unhooked survivors have run at me, blocking, waiting for their hit, only to see me patiently wait a few seconds and down them. Usually I take the DS and show them the error of their ways.

They usually don't enjoy it one bit though.

They also seem to be the first one to whine at me about how I'm being a toxic tunneling jerk 😂

  • Hope your opponent is dumb and screws it up and/or uses it wrong

That's unfortunately the only counter to Dead Hard unless you're using a one shot character like Bubba and can nail them with a one shot hit when they aren't injured...

  • Timeline cleanser? This sounds like a job for Holly!!! Holly, come over here!!! I ...oh no she's been playing [Your Side of Choice] and she's angry!!!!

    PXL_20220501_170322145.jpg

    SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!

  • I still don't understand why anyone would think BT Basekit is a good idea

If everyone has BT, all anyone who is going to tunnel will do is wait X seconds before hitting them and resuming their tunnel. To hijack a cartoon quote; if everyone has BT protection, no one has BT protection

  • I wasn't there obviously but going off of your language here...

    "offered them a chase"

Not offered them a hook so presumably you did something to get their attention and got them to chase you (whether it was as simple as a passive standing there waiting for them to see you up to being annoying with quick vaults or clickity clicks). Whichever degree of getting their attention you did, they could have easily misinterpreted what you were trying to do (they thought you were mocking them) so they decided to face camp you for it once they did catch you

Ultimately though, I've allowed a killer to hook me when they're just getting absolutely destroyed but I recognize and accept that I am also taking a risk in doing so. If the killer decides to make sure I die, that's something I have accepted as a possible outcome. If you can't/won't accept that, then yeah, just leave instead of getting mad at them for killing you.

  • No but somehow they'll find a way to give the killer something else to do. Killers just have too much time and not enough to do so maybe after every hook they have to go across the map to get The Entity's blessing to hook their next victim or something.

But isn't that just for offerings? We've never seen add ons being burned

    Oh...good point

Pyramid Head plays with his doll collection prior to a trial is my new head canon

    https://youtu.be/LMxTFqPET5I

  • The theory is you burn these items in the campfire before the trial as an offering for The Entity (it's why it "burns" on the screen showing everyone's offering).

  • I take it on a case by case basis. I play "fair" (not that I think it's wrong to play with tunneling/camping) unless the survivors give me a reason not to. Like yesterday the survivor who bodyblocked me with BT active when I was trying to go around them to go after someone else. I'd rather not tunnel you off the hook but if you're going to give me no other option...

But like you said, my thing above is an individual thing, not a "collective" fix but unfortunately I don't think there will ever be a big fix. This game brings out the absolute worst in some and BHVR is the only one with the power to do something about it and have demonstrated time and time again that not only do they not care, they actively encourage their player base to be jerks.

  • I don't have anything useful to add to the conversation except Thank You for being willing to tell your story

  • Killer can be some of the most frustrating experiences in gaming period and I really shouldn't be playing it. But I'm not very smart so I keep playing it, getting frustrated, and doing something stupid I immediately regret before quitting forever until I play again.

  • I remember getting that message from a survivor. They were being camped by a Bubba in the basement.

Dafuq you want me to do about it brah? 😅

  • I still hate it. I never cared about the increased wiggle power or even the drop damage, it was the inability to walk to any hook without getting caught on every single thing and consistently getting caught so bad on random crap that I couldn't go anywhere.

Unless something has changed with this patch, that's still a huge problem with Boil Over on the controller. BHVR seems deadset on changing everything about Boil Over EXCEPT for the one part that irks me so much about it.

Every challenge can be completed in the course of regular, objective focused gameplay. Even hiding within 10m of the killer, something any proactive hook rescuer has done from time to time.

They can be but many don't

The easiest example to see is I noticed as killer that when the "throw ten pallets in a chase" challenge came out, suddenly a LOT of survivors really wanted to run right up to me to start a chase and then threw down every single pallet as I went after them, regardless of how much sense it made.

Many challenges CAN be done without throwing the match but many players on both sides don't because they'd rather get their challenge done in one game instead of three.

  • Like...65% of these challenges "promote toxicity". Many of them require you to straight up go after the killer (how many "Stun the killer X times in one match have their been) or to throw the match (thanks, hiding within 10 meters for 30 seconds was super helpful for the team there Ace)

That's always been an issue with challenges and will always be an issue with challenges as there are too many players who just grind their objectives instead of doing the teams objective

  • Luckily I've got enough experience against those kinds of squads to handle them. Usually it ends up with a bunch of survivors getting to play "lie here on the floor and think about what you've done" simulator

  • @Ryuhi said:

You're welcome to be the better person, and I wish more people would. But here's the unfortunate truth (with this game and community especially):

Nobody is incentivized in any way to break the cycle of toxicity

Simply put, there is absolutely zero reason for any one person to be the better person when confronted with toxicity in this game. There is the nebulous impact of not making it even worse that you could have, sure. But that only has theoretical impact on any future matches you will experience. However there is no punishment for BMing (its even passively encouraged) nor is there any type of rep system, no grade reset rewards for not being an insufferable jerk, You aren't temporarily put in a queue with other non-asshats, nothing.

I'm not toxic to other players because I see no personal reason to be. If i see someone being toxic I usually assume they're either letting out aggression that toxic players put on them, or they're just a toxic person who would act that way regardless. Until the game is structured around it or even at the very least the devs address it as more than "just smack talk," its always going to be a thing.

People are having seizures from flashlight macros yet they're still in the game, mostly unchanged except that one time they were able to force crash people's games. Macros aren't even allowed via the ToS, yet they refuse to address the favorite bully tool in the game despite it having a direct impact on some players' health. The only way to get rid of toxicity in this game would be to nuke it from orbit, and BHVR is just fine with that.

Nailed it. 10/10, no notes needed

BHVR has stated time and time again that so much of the toxicity in this game is perfectly fine. I don't get why BHVR would want to encourage jerks to be jerks but hey, if the game hemorrhaging players because they're sick of being punching bags for their frustrated opponents is fine with them, then I guess it's their call ultimately. It's not my game so not much I can do about it except not be a jerk to people.

While Oni is very balanced, Killers should be more like Artist.

Good 1v1, good 1v4, strong Add-Ons and still remaining counterable

But The Artist doesn't get to bonk naughty survivors with a big stick.

    *BONK*

  • Oni is one of the fairest killers in this game. He has to do stuff to get his powers. His powers are very strong but are counterable (although I have a good standard build against him as I run Bond so finding my wounded teammates/finding a teammate to heal me as a solo is easy enough). While difficult, if he does have his power and is after you, there are things you can do about it like tight loops, windows, or jumping in a locker.

Hell, I wish more killers were as balanced as Oni...

  • Yes?

The game DC'ed. You don't get credit for the game when you DC whether you DC'ed 20 seconds in or 20 minutes in.

This isn't some big secret so I'm not sure why you're shocked. It sucks if the DC wasn't your fault but that's the penalty of a DC in the vast majority of games.

  • BHVR is never going to remove or segregate out SWF (which might as well remove them since the vast majority of killers are going to not queue up for a SWF squad; even if only 5% of SWFs are Seal Team SWF, why would any killer ever risk that?).

There's not much else to do rather than just put up with it post work time if you intend to play DBD

  • Just like some killers won't take a pity kill if you try to offer it, some survivors won't take a pity hatch if you offer it

  • They do listen to console reports, as long as you go through all of the steps required to report. You know, get a video of it, gather the person's name and all of their information, go to a computer in order to fill out a big ass form, hope you don't miss anything on the big ass form, upload the video from your console to something BHVR accepts, fist fight David King in a underground street fight, make sure you submit the form, wait 2-5 weeks for BHVR to make a decision, never hear back from anyone because BHVR doesn't tell you what happens, find the Blendette in this giant WHERE'S BLENDETTE book that BHVR ships to you, circle the Blendette once you have found her and certify mail it back to BHVR (Please make sure it is certified mail, you're gonna need the signature confirmation later), then be sad once you run into the person again because nothing ever actually happened to them because the BHVR reporting system is a giant joke and we're the punchline.

  • If you do not count when she first came out, I think I've played her twice.

Like most killers who are not Blight, Leatherface, or Nurse (and Nemesis for some odd reason. In my games, I'm just as likely to run into him as I am Blight or LF), I rarely ever see her.

Well you said "I don't understand why people rush the gens" and I told you why. Not saying you were complaining that was more a blanket statement for the thread

But I am one of those people. I usually use iron will, left behind, sprint burst, and am basically planted on a gen all game.

If the team dies they die but the gens are getting done lol. About the only time I am not doing gens is because I am too busy being murdered. I am not stopping because my baby claud with 50 hours got 2 tapped by an M1 killer, someone else can deal with that I don't even want to bother saving those people because MMR should not even be putting them on my team

Fair. I don't get how that can be all that much fun but if you like it and enjoy it, ride that gen all you can

  • @OpenX said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2931520#Comment_2931520

B/c doing the gens is how you survive, lol. More time in the trial is just more time for the killer to kill people. You can't really complain about people doing gens. Especially right at the start of a match you have no idea if you are gonna get a sweatlord killer or a baby and the best thing to do there is hold M1 for dear life

...did you read my last sentence? I'm not sure how you can call what I said "complaining".

  • Gen Rushing (much like tunneling and camping) are also used to often to just...describe playing the game that it's more or less meaningless

"True" Gen Rushing are survivors who put the gens above all else. They won't heal, they won't go for saves, they bring tool boxes and parts, etc. They're the players who would make a professional speed runner look at them go and say "Calm it down guys".

Those are the players I don't really get because you fly through the game so fast that nothing could happen (especially when those people or the killer is bringing things like BPS since Gen Rushing is worth such a low amount of BP). Ultimately it's your choice as a survivor if you choose to gen rush but I am not going to pretend like I understand how that's a good time.

You would not need a "super long distance" for this to be effective. Completely incorrect.

    How so?

I don't know his exact number but Bubba on one charge can go approx 10 meters and he gets 3 of them. At minimum, he'd need to have a 10 meter radius to not use his power if you want to prevent him from being able to camp with his power.

Or even better, doesn't take all that long to charge so why wouldn't bubba just wait for you to unhook while standing and the hook and then chainsaw you down the millisecond the survivor is unhooked?

This doesn't even factor in things like dumb survivors who loop around the area the hooked person is in. If you make the distance too short, I can just wait it out and chainsaw you down but if you make it too long, I'm now being punished as a killer for no good reason.

  • @Brimp said:

it would still result in hook trades as they cant just sit outside the radius and as soon as someone goes for the save they wait until the unhook animation is finished then chainsaw sweep.

This. I've never understood this "no powers by the hook" argument for this very reason.

Pyramid Head has his cages teleport away if you are too close to it. Do you know what I see them do? I don't know the exact distance so if the teleport distance is X, he stands X+1 away. If you go for the save, he shoves his knife in the ground and is ready to slap you both as soon as you grab the caged person.

You would need a stupid long distance for this to affect a killer like Bubba...

  • I would also love to have that kind of option. Right now all I do is let the killer down me right away again (I'll be damned if I'm going to give that survivor points for a safe unhook) but that's not exactly a great way to win a match...

  • I know many people have tech issues with this game but as soon as I got my Series X, I've had zero issues with running the game.

It's a stupid perk that isn't even that good by itself. It's at least not abusable like it was for the first 2 weeks after its buff, but it still doesn't promote any kind of interesting gameplay imo. Still can be super annoying in swfs.

@tippy2k2 that video is private, we can't see anything there.

    ...oopsy!

I shall fix it post-haste! It's my video so I guess I just need to reupload it public. Should be up the right way in a few minutes. Thanks for the heads up.

I meant to do "unlisted", not private. I changed it so it should work now.

  • I hate it. I didn't mind the drop ish or the wiggle speed ish but as many others on console can attest, it's absolute hell. BHVR once again seems to not be bothered to remember it's not just mouse and keyboard users in this game...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CzkRyw4MIY

Now granted I gave up pretty quickly on this so maybe I'd have eventually gotten through the door but all it takes is getting caught up on something (and on a controller, unless it's a straight shot, you almost certainly will get caught up on friggin everything) and you're screwed. I couldn't even get through the damn door...

  • Solo Queue feels same as normal personally. Half the time I get toddlers who really shouldn't be playing a Rated M game but clearly have bad parents as them being toddlers is the only reasonable explanation as to how they're so bad and the other half of the time I get somewhat competent players on my team.

Well at least the times someone isn't immediately DCing or Suiciding on Hook :D

  • A number of people seem to have this complaint.

Not me because it's a straight banger. A worse performance for myself is a sacrifice I am willing to make for that jam. 🤟

  • More often than not, if I see they are actively grabbing the glyph as I get to them, I will wait the few seconds for them to get it before I smack them. I'm still a monster at heart but I DO have a heart :D

  • Not super often but way more often than any game I've ever played

Probably...once a week I get actual messages from people. Maybe twice a week if we're including the odd GG or something of that nature. If it's hate mail, it's almost always survivors to me as a killer. If it's GG, it's a healthy mix of both.

So it's still not very often but far more often than any other game, which is like....MAYBE I'd get a single message my entire time playing.

  • I use non-meta perks (well I use BBQ & Chilli but no one really considers that meta cause it's so powerful, it's meta because the grind is so awful)

I also pretty routinely get my ass kicked :D

Is there a correlation? Possibly. I might also not be very good. Or probably both!

  • But my locker is a safe place! The Legion will never find me in here...

It's not just visual sadly. I paid attention to how many I had BEFORE and AFTER. Even after exiting the lobby...My BP do NOT go up.

    Oh...well that sucks :D

I didn't pay any attention to it when I ran it (I have so much BP that I'm not really sure why I even bother with BBQ at this point) so I was just going off of what the Bug Thread said.

  • I'm not a huge fan of new Haddonfield. I do think it has tipped a bit to the killer sided but it's just...really really boring. It's empty as hell.

Old Haddonfield sucked in terms of killer but it at least had stuff in it. New Haddonfield looks like a dark field in the middle of nowhere.
