wait different survivor characters play differently? in what way? i just picked claudette cause she looked the coolest

They don't play any differently beyond their perks, but their unique perks do make them different from one another. Claudette is a good healer because of her perks, Meg is more athletic and elusive, Nea is more stealthy, Dwight is a good support character.

Survivors are basically identical aside from their appearance, and their perks. In time you'll find that even though you like Claudette you may wish that she had some of the other characters' perks, and you'll be able to get them if you play as those characters and "teach" those perks so that everyone else can use them. In that way you can mix and match your favorite abilities while still using the survivor who you like the most.

Example: my favorite survivor is Meg but she's literally not using any of her original perks. She's using three of the aura perks I mentioned earlier as well as either one of Nea's or another one of Dwight's. But to be totally clear, no, there is no difference in abilities between survivors. They all run as fast, have the same strength level, etc. The perks are what make them different from each other.

  • Try not to make any rushed judgments about the game. I'm new too - about 500 hours in - and I'm still learning and improving. No offense but you're way too young a player to really have a good sense of the balance in the game yet. I say that because a couple of months ago I was in the same spot that you are now, and to an extent still am.

Take your time, experiment with different characters and perks, find a playstyle that fits you, don't be aggressively rude to others and try not to get too cocky. There's always more learning to do. And keep in mind that just yesterday the game's rank system was bugged in such a way that a lot of people are facing much easier competition than they should be.

EDIT: As for perks, I've found that aura perks are good ones to begin with. Dwight's Bond, and when you run across them Kindred and Dark Sense. These all help you get a feel for paying attention to your surroundings and figuring out where the killer and your teammates are. Also forget self-care: We all think it's great until we use it, then we realize that it's way too slow and isn't worth wasting a perk slot on since medkits are so easy to acquire.

  • Definitely not a fan of the killers spawning right near the killers which happens to me more often than it doesn't.

  • I too feel that a great amount of atmosphere has been lost with the fog being reduced as much as it has. You're right, you can see pretty much all the way to the other end of the map if the map isn't Yamaoka Estate massive and you simply climb up one of those little hills. Some maps feel like they have no fog at all. I really miss it and hope that they pile it back in again.

  • Thank you for the answers.

Anything that's in the store will always be there permanently. They've never removed items from the store.

Never? That's really good to know. Every now and then I see an outfit and think "I wonder if I'll be screwed if I wait to buy that one until later".

Is it true that items that show up in the Rift don't become available in the store until at least a year later?

  • Codes and events are timed, I just assumed that perhaps special event clothing may be as well.

My bloodwebs have been normal. I'm so bummed I'm not getting fireworks on my bloodwebs, those are my favorite item in the game.

They're definitely abnormal for me, or at least were before I was suddenly being offered them a couple of times per character. How often would they used to appear for you when you did get them?

  • @bm33 said:

3 perks but plenty of event items. I'd love to have 3 perks but bunch of event items like fireworks.

I've gotten probably five fireworks in just the last couple of days. Never even saw them before.

As for perks I seem to always get the same ones (Empathy, Adrenaline, Premonition, the one that reveals chests, etc.) and no more than 2 at a time (for the most part, can't recall how many I was offered before my last two prestiges).

  • I just wish they had the right to use Shawnee Smith's likeness. :)

  • I'd like to know this as well.

Yea, I have run into quite a few people who tried to be comp in fishing against me or had something to say to me. When I use fishing as an outlet to escape from society as a whole, because I just don't wanna deal with it lol. I've been playing games since I was 4. Started MMO's at 5 years old, so I have had a lot of time on MP games since then. So I can only speak from experience of how the industry has changed since then. Yea a lot of people my age still act like they are in middle school, but then again it's just an increasing number of people in general of all ages that seem to cause drama/toxicity everywhere including dbd. I try to be as nice as I can, but I don't take it if someone dishes it out towards me that's for sure.

Good for you. Same here. I try to treat people the way that they treat me.

I've also been gaming since I was 4 (1982). Man, has the industry changed. The internet has made gaming both amazingly deeper and profoundly worse. I guess the same can be said about what the internet has done for society as a whole.

You and Laluzi seem like really decent people, the kind that I'd be happy to be in a game with. Should you ever like to add me feel free, same name as the one I use here.

  • Forgive me for not quite understanding but could someone explain the issue a little more clearly? I've had two characters at level 50 (Claudette and Nea) without ever seeing the third tier of their perks, or even first tier perks such as Dark Sense, Kindred, or Bond (which I unlocked with Dwight ages ago).

Is that what's going on here? People getting to prestige level but never encountering all of the perks that are available, or is it something else? Sorry to ask, I'm just not sure if I understand and could possibly contribute with my own log.

EDIT: My apologies, I think I understand. This seems to be more about the bloodweb not making as many perks available per level as it should. If so, feel free to ignore this.

Games these days are more competitive than ever. That's the main underlining problem with the industry now. We saw it with COD, and then when more and more companies have piggy backed off of cod, and more and more multiplayers are a thing now with some sort of competitive level. The problem is, is the industry has taken a huge sink down. People will find anything to get mad at these days, because they feel like they need to. A lot of people are just simply lacking a mind of their own, and they will just follow the behavior of their peers or players they play with. I've always been one for good sportsmanship. I still will talk trash if someone talks trash to me though. I'm not someone who takes it. Like you said in your post before. Good sportsmanship is the way to go, but the upcoming generation gets everything handed to them on a silver platter. Games are no exception. I'm only 22 almost 23, but I've always been one for fair competition if I lose well played. If I win well played. I think if everyone just was a good sport it would be a great thing, but the problem is, is that even outside sources of gaming are also becoming more Toxic. I fish a lot, and you'd think people would not be so toxic even in fishing. These days nope. I have problems with people even with fishing, because someone always has to say something even in you'd think a relaxing sport with barely no comp. People are feeding toxicity everywhere, and that's what this era has caused. It's an absolute trainwreck among all proportions.

Fishing? Good lord. Yes, it seems that everyone is angry at everyone and everything these days. Just like gaming, it's a shame that you can't enjoy a simple passive relaxing hobby such as fishing without dealing with someone else's bullshit.

You at least seem to have a good, realistic head on your shoulders for your age. That's good to see. Sadly many of the people who cause the most drama are around your age or younger. To an extent it's understandable - the human brain doesn't fully develop until the mid to late 20s, people don't generally mature until around the same time. But yes, I'd be lying if I said that at my age I didn't see a steady decrease in simple courtesy and respect for our fellow human beings.

Entertainment at the expense of other people is self-centered at best, sadistic at worst. It actively makes this game worse by shrinking the playerbase and poisoning the players that remain.

The people who want to play to have a good time should not have to be saddled with the people who want to play to torment other players because that's what constitutes 'fun' for them.

I'm glad that people like yourself (and others in this thread) are members of this forum. I had a survivor colluding with the killer last night. The survivor pointed me out to the killer when I was trying to get distance, bodyblocked me from being able to escape around a wall, then teabagged me over and over once the killer got me down. I was hooked, more pointing, more teabagging, the two danced in front of me, etc. After the match my chat was spammed with "ha"s and "ehe"s.

That much is fine, I just wanted to make sure that I reported them properly. But by asking about whether it was okay to name them another user repeatedly scolded me for being a wet blanket, saying that I should quit taking the game "so seriously" and "get over it" because, according to them, it "rarely happens" and I should just "write a letter to Karen". The fact that this person was so bothered by this, and so eager to vilify me, for utilizing the report feature to inform the devs of players who deliberately broke the rules for the sole purpose of ruining someone else's game, was befuddling at best and sadly narrow thinking at worst. Why these kinds of things are tolerated or even dismissed with a laugh is why the community has the (somewhat undeserved) reputation that it does. Things just don't need to be that way.

I felt like gaming in the early 2000's when computers still were becoming a household wide thing was much better. Generally the amount of toxicity in games weren't as large scale until it hit around the the 2010's era it became a much more wide scale thing. Sure there was games back then before that, that had toxicity mainly fps like Halo. Once the COD days hit. The toxicity ramped up insanely fast, and it became a lot bigger. With more and more people playing video games more than ever with many different outlets or sources. We have this insane growth of toxicity. More people means the more chances of it becoming a large scale thing considering a lot of people don't have mentality or a mind of their own. I know back in the early 2000's I never really had an issue with Toxicity on the games I played like mmo's such as wow, toontown etc... It was only when the early 2010's ramped up I saw a lot of toxicity happen. A lot of the younger crowd who has everyone speak for them instead of themselves these days also don't make it any better. I've played a lot of Roblox and the Toxicity on the platform is absolutely insane. People just scamming each other left and right. Bypassing filters to name call a lot of other things in the mix, because moderation is a lot worse, because of the fact that so many people on the platform. At least on DBD there is usually some sort of repercussions if you report toxicity in the end game chat.

That's a good observation. Call of Duty, as much as I used to love the series (simply haven't played any of the newer ones in years), did a hell of a lot to bring entitlement, bragging, chest-thumping hypermasculinity, and toxicity to the mainstream. It doesn't help that we, as a species, have become so tribal in the last ten or twenty years as well. In general people just seem angrier and meaner for less and less valid reasons, and it's gone unsupervised (or outright rewarded) for so long that it's become the new norm. It's sad that being a good sport is becoming the exception rather than the rule. I don't know. Not the way I was brought up.

  • I like to play a little game with myself whenever I click on a Blight topic. I ask myself "will I see the term J-Flick"?

This is a surprisingly easy game to win.

That was one of the reasons I stopped playing in the evening and I have a thicker skin than most cant imagine other people...and I love this game I want it to be better for others

I agree completely. I don't care what anyone says to me after chat, I don't care if I win or lose. I don't care if someone feels that I didn't play aggressively enough or is mad that I survived by playing more conservatively than they did. These are random goons whose opinions don't matter to me, I'm not in a serious conversation with them. I don't care what they think of me.

But I know that other people aren't all the same. I know that people have actually listened when some jackass online told them to kill themselves. I know that there are people who just want to have fun and enjoy a game and get totally turned off of playing it because people keep hassling them for their performance, or because they're new. There's a real sense of entitlement that comes with this game. Not everyone is guilty of it of course, but it's there and it's a problem. Sadly it's probably the same for many online games, I wouldn't know because it's this exact type of thing that makes me uninterested in playing them. I only played GTA Online with friends in private lobbies because getting hacked and griefed and taunted constantly became tiresome.

I'm of the opinion that DBD is a truly great game. I want more people to enjoy it. When I play as a killer I feel good letting some (or all) of the survivors escape, especially if I can tell that they're new. It's just my philosophy I suppose. I don't care if I win or lose this game, I just want to chill and have fun. I care more about the gameplay than the "bragging rights". And I know that if I can help convince people that not everyone who plays the game is an ass, then I'm doing my part to help make the game just a little bit less toxic.

I'm convinced something about dbd brings out the worst in people. I play in a swf and they can be a toxic at times. I don't agree with it and I hate being toxic. If everyone is OK I leave immediately and don't join in on the toxic behavior. But outside the game they are kind and nice people who have been good friends with me. I love them. But I'm always asking what about dbd brings out the worst in them.

This is a very cynical take but I think that competition brings out the worst in people. Everyone likes to act that no, it creates champions, it brings out the best in people, etc., and to that I say "not in the gaming world".

Again, that's a very cynical take and I admit that it's also painting with a very broad brush. When I used to play Mortal Kombat II in arcades - which I was extremely good at - I took great pride in shaking the hands of the people I beat and letting them know that they did a good job, that there's no shame in losing to someone who has more practice and experience, encouraging them to keep up their skills and letting them know that they'll be just as good as me or better, etc. I loved it. It felt good. I felt absolutely no need to be a dick to people unless they started things off by being a dick to me first. I just legitimately don't get it. I have no idea why someone would feel so emasculated for losing a game or so empowered for bragging about winning one.

The humor website Cracked has multiple different articles called something like "The Biggest (penis) Moves in Gaming". Each article describes, in detail, how players would find ways to completely screw over other players in as many devious ways as possible, sometimes (such as in the case of the game EVE Online) actually screwing them out of hundreds or thousands of dollars of real-life money. Reading the articles was funny at first, but then sad. They were like pieces of evidence in a large-scale gaming social experiment. They proved that no matter what, if a game has some way for a player to exploit and take advantage of it, someone's going to find it as soon as they possibly can. And if a game allows a player to be a jerk to everyone else, there are going to be loads of people for whom that is the primary goal.

I've been playing video games since 1982. I do it to have fun. I don't get this modern "WIN AT ALL COSTS AND LAUGH AT EVERYBODY ELSE" mentality. Belligerence in gaming says more to me about the nature of people than the nature of gaming.

  • If it makes you feel any better I've seen rank 1 players get into matches when I and the others were roughly rank 15. BEFORE yesterday's bug. That's when I realized that the ranking system as it currently stands is pretty pointless.

  • @dspaceman20 said:

I have the same feelings as you. I'm a survivor main and I hate the fact that other survivors ate rude to killers. It just makes me feel terrible that they had s bad game because of my team and I feel we responsible. Survivor toxicity is a big problem that not only effect killers but survivors as well.

I totally agree. Again, I don't want to pick sides, but in my relatively low game time (500 hours maybe) I've not ever had a killer be rude to me after the game. Not once. Never. A couple were kind of pricks during the game itself but usually nothing too serious. Many of the survivors I've gone against (or even played with), on the other hand, seemed very entitled to not only win the match but also mock the killer and scold anyone in their ranks who didn't play the way that they wanted them to.

I'm 43 years old. Junior high was 30 years ago for me and even then I didn't act like so many of today's players do. I don't get it. I don't understand the rise that some people get from trying to make a multiplayer game worse for the other players. I don't understand the joy that some people feel from trying to ruin other people's day. It doesn't hurt my feelings, it just makes me shake my head. Like "wow, someone actually felt the need to say that. I wonder what his home life is like". Then I just get depressed that each and every one of them help to keep this game in a perpetual cycle of negativity. It's so unnecessary. I play games to get AWAY from irritating people.

    @VioletCrimes said:

I know exactly how you feel. I very rarely play killer because I’m not very good, and playing against survivors that just infinite loop and teabag doesn’t make me feel like I’m learning to improve.

Same here. I'm decent as a survivor but know that I still need improvement (especially with looping, which I despise and have no interest in, but know that I HAVE to get better at because so much of the game revolves around it). If I'm a killer and try to catch someone who's a great looper I usually just give up and go look for something else to do rather than waste my time learning nothing more than how popular teabagging is.

This actually happens to me all the ######### time. And I’ve grown sick of it that I’ve completely stopped playing the game.

I’m bored of playing as Killer and being forced into doing so because every daily rite I get is always a Killer rite. I haven’t gotten a single Survivor rite for two entire weeks, even recycling my current one each day. I just want to play Survivor but the rank reset was botched and now I’m stuck with tunnellers, campers, and ‘doing gens, you?’ teammates.

Yeah my worst example was all four survivors spawning against the exit in Gideon's meat plant. We had no direction to go but forward. Literally as we were crossing the threshold to leave the room, Freddy's terror radius started rapidly approaching. Six seconds. Six. And again, this happens to me almost constantly. That one was just the most egregious example. I've actually contacted the devs to let them know that it's happening but I don't think anything will be done about it, especially since it seems that few people actually encounter or notice the issue. But yeah, it sucks. "Okay, so I'm playing in the Red Forest. That's cool, I really like this m- oh okay, time to hide. Oh look, we all scattered and the killer just happened to choose me. Well, I'm down within 30 seconds of the start of the match. This is fun".

The last time I got a survivor ritual was also a couple of weeks ago, I believe it was being chased for 3 minutes as Heather. Since then it's been "down 4 people with Blight's power", "catch 5 people in bear traps", etc. I mean that's alright I guess, I just wish there was more variety. I wonder if everyone gets the same rituals every day or if it's completely randomized for all players.

What are some of the best ways you like to congratulate the other side after a match? I am looking for new ways which can't be mistaken as sarcasm.

Gg - can be mistaken for 'get good'

Well played - seems to be misinterpreted often

Thanks for the match - seems to be taken as sarcasm

English is not my native language and I sometimes struggle with the nuance so I'd appreciate any suggestions on genuine sounding messages to send. 😊

It's difficult for me to say much because by the time I provide the positivity it seems that most of the time the group has already moved along but I do sometimes catch people. I like to combine a generality with something specific, like "gg everyone, and you were a really tricky killer Ghostface". In my experience when someone does stick around to respond, it's almost always a "gg" in return or a bit of conversation like "thank you, I'm still learning the PC version of the game but I think I did okay".

Even brief little interactions like this, especially with the "other" side, are a really nice reminder that it's a human being on the other side of the screen and for the most part they probably just want to chill and have a fun game just like most of us do.

i dint think that's true since at least 1 surv spawn pretty coles to me

That's what I'm saying. In my experience I almost always start pretty close to at least one other survivor, and often all three of them. I assumed that this was the norm. It's the killer also spawning really close that I assume to be unintentional.

What kills me is the they make survivor lobbies even worse with this behavior

Yeah I mean I really don't like taking sides or generalizing but my own experience has been that 100 percent of the negative behavior / toxicity has come from survivors so far. I feel legitimately embarrassed when I go to escape and everyone but me is doing the teabag dance. I wish I could say to the killer "I apologize for these guys, we're not ALL twelve years old". Similarly any trash talk I've seen in the end-game chat has been from survivors, sometimes even directed at the other survivors.

I know that this doesn't describe every survivor but it's a shame that it's so prevalent. If the reason why survivor matches get significantly less easy to find in the evening because killers just don't feel like dealing with sweaty survivor teams, I honestly can't blame them. Like you said, they're just making the lobbies worse (and therefore making the game worse for everybody) by being that way.

  • @piggygooik said:

well i mean i think that happens every game i just hate it when the other survivor spawn a whole 10 miles away form the surv i found

As far as I can tell the killers and survivors aren't supposed to be spawning practically within reach of each other. As for survivors spawning all the way on the other side of the map, that doesn't seem to happen to me. They're usually clustered pretty close.

  • @Laluzi said:

You've got three types of players. When confronted with a killer that is clearly below their skill level, survivors will:

1.) Humor the killer, playing badly enough to give them a chance to get some downs and do some of their objectives. This can unfortunately backfire and end up with the survivor getting camped to death, which new players and frustrated players are both likely to do.

2.) Do the objectives, get out, and queue up for the next game.

3.) Use their near-invulnerability from the killer's ineptitude to make fun of them for as long as possible, dragging out the match to farm them for points, baiting them, going out of their way to deny any hooks or downs the killer does manage to make, and mocking pretty much every move they make every step of the way.

People like feeling powerful. Combine it with an unwillingness to recognize the player on the other side is a real person trying to have fun and not a bot that exists for their amusement, or the kind of sociopathy that actively takes enjoyment in rubbing someone else's face in the dirt, and you see a lot of #3.

I totally agree. As a survivor main I hate to say this but I'm seeing killers' claims of survivor toxicity backed up more and more all the time.

  • I keep being spawned within probably 100 feet of the killer. 7 or 8 matches out of ten I can wander in any direction upon starting the game and hear the terror radius creep in within ten seconds (my record, which I still have video of, is six). I'm so sick of it. Hell with finding a generator, I would at least like to have a chance to actually explore my surroundings for a minute or even get to leave the first room before the killer closes in.

  • Meg, because I find her attractive and really like a lot of her outfits. Beyond that usually Dwight, because he tends to get some of my favorite perks the fastest.

I haven't really played enough killer to say that I main anybody but my favorites to play as so far are Wraith, Billy, Myers, and Legion.

    Tnx really appreciate that.

It's what I love to do as a killer.

I hate to go for 1 survivor at the time (which a lot of killers did), I love to go for multiple chases and out think every single survivor and see what they're made off.

If you want a killer gets really tunnelvisioned, run no mither.

Trust me, most of the time they forget about the rest and focused solely on you.

By the time they realise that they are loosing the match because they spent to much time on you, the game is basically over 😬

You're welcome, your game was pure skill, and from what I could tell no cheapness. You helped to demonstrate what I've thought all along which is that in the hands of a good player, the Wraith was more than capable of being a dangerous killer. If I'd been in that match I wouldn't have disconnected (especially that last person, who - were you trying to let her have the hatch? If so, poor call on her part), I would have been frustrated enough to write back "damn man, good game". :P

    Thanks for the advice too!

I don't ask to argue, but to be informed. I could swear that I ran across some that were of this nature. "Don't confront, stay away, top level access only, we have to keep trying to find ways to stop this thing from absorbing everything around it". Could be wrong though.

Unfortunately I haven't got the time to play dbd in about 2 months now or so, so i can't judge how the buffed version of wraith is.

All seeing is great on him, really enjoyed that add on.

Especially when going against a 4 man swf blendette squad who all bring purple mist, which I brought also 😬

They all thought they were safe, but oh how wrong they were 🤣

But yeah some might say he's average, i would say he's a little above average.

But that could be due to the amount of time is spent on him learning to play him effectively.

Many pick a killer and expect to do good with little to no effort, and when they don't do well they class that killer quickly to a low tier.

And sometimes you get swf squads like this which is just to funny 🤣

    https://youtu.be/9mWD_VpYDfU

See this is a Wraith match I'd have no problem with. Not meaning that I wouldn't die (I would, lol), but rather meaning that it looks like a perfectly fair game. The killer won with skill, good thinking ahead, good spatial awareness. He didn't just systematically sneak up on everybody, de-cloak without a bell, and power-lunge everyone to their doom. He was out running around, playing the game, and the survivors were playing too recklessly. These are the kind of Wraith games I miss. Now it seems like anytime I get a Wraith it's just "quietly follow from a distance, wait until someone gets on a gen, then rush up, appear out of nowhere, and lunge them. Fair strategy, sure. But it definitely feels like less of an actual game than this clip does.

Onis aren't common to come across because he's harder to play as compared to most killers. That's why killers like Spirit, Freddy, and Wraith are more common, they're easier to play as, and so killers tend to play them because they find them more comfortable and less stressful.

Oni w/o Scalped Topknot is a pretty damn powerful yet balanced killer, and doesn't need changes other than that add-on needing to be looked at.

Hmm, ironically if I want to see more of him then maybe I should have suggested that he be nerfed. XD

Wraith. He was so bad before and now he's a decent killer so why would you revert him back?

I guess I just found him to be a really balanced, really fun killer to go against before. I found him to be a good challenge as well as fun to use. I put him with Huntress, Myers, Pig, and a few others as solid but not OP. I guess I just didn't see him as inordinately weak or anything like that, whereas now he feels on the cheap side to me.

Just opinion, that's all. Most people despise the Nurse for example but I never had much trouble against her. A lot of it probably depends on playstyle and perk choices.

  • Wraith was the first killer I played as and I really enjoyed him. All things considered, being that I was brand new, I felt surprisingly decent with him. Maybe that's just it, he's a killer that helps beginners get into the killer role and thus he's looked downed upon, or was? I don't know. I'm of the opinion that every killer in the game, in skilled hands, is deadly. I've seen massacres by every single killer. Every one of them, at any number of ranks.

Wraith's new changes just kind of confused me. I never heard anyone clamoring for him to be buffed, never saw people complain about how terrible it was that he was bottom tier. I heard that about Trickster, Twins, Myers, sometimes even Freddy, but I never saw any groundswell to make Wraith better. But now that they have, people everywhere are saying that he's gone from "the worst" to one of the best, which I would think alone suggests that maybe he's been buffed a bit TOO much.

Just my opinion, that's all. I'm not saying that he's a wretched chore to play against or anything, or that I hate the character (quite the contrary) and wish him to be impotent, only that playing against him is now more irritating than it was before.

"just make him how he was before the recent patch" great idea lets put him back to being the weakest killer in the game. Unless you mean put him back to when he didnt have the huge lunge out of cloak which I would honestly be ok with.

That's pretty much what I mean, yes. That and the lack of the bell are the only things that bug me.

The Oni part or the Wraith part, lol?

  • Nancy's actions were...different in season 2, let's say that. :D

  • Everyone's gonna say Spirit so I'd nerf Wraith (actually I'd just make him how he was before the recent patch, that's all) and buff Oni. I know a lot of people say that Oni is already high tier but I never, ever see the guy. It's been literal weeks since I had an Oni match. I like him and I'd like to see more of him.

I played last night and can confirm, there are actually good sports around the lower ranks. They actually COMPLIMENTED me like wth man. It is pretty uncommon for them to actually praise me for slaughtering them, usually I get death threats and the classic "Get a fricking life you absolute trash killer main".

There were only two matches where the survivors were salty, at their teammates. One guy was just going AFK randomly but then would move once I started to chase her. The other game, the survivors were just incompetent and did not go for a save and let one person die while the other person went to struggle.

That first part is awesome. I won a game against a killer yesterday (Wraith in Gideon's) which was a really great back and forth, lengthy match. The end, between he and two other survivors, was a nail-biter. Ultimately one escaped but he hooked and killed the other, who was a really good Claudette. After the match I said "aw man, Claudette deserved to live. Great game though, everyone was good". The killer had some fun by saying "They told me to do it! IT'S THEIR FAULT" after which I congratulated his skill. He thanked me, saying that he'd recently moved from PS4 to PC and thought he sucked. I told him that no, he did a good job despite our escapes. "Thank you"s and "GG"s all around.

I wish every game could be that sportsmanlike.

So, for a bit of context I've been rank 1 killer for 2-3 years now. I'm well acquainted with the sweat and toxicity (but also the instant queues baby). As we all know recently there was a small... fiasco, with rank reset and people were sent significantly further back than they should've been.

Well, I'd let someone else play on my account for a bit and they'd gotten me a bit below rank 1. Rank reset hits and suddenly im rank 19. Obviously I'm currently taking the time to grind out some achievements and be as nice as I can (may Skilled Huntress please perish with immidiately effect) but I played a couple of serious matches with my main build and killer.

And oh my word it's an entirely different world down there.

Firstly, grey and yellow ranks take a long ass time to matchmake, but I don't think that's news to anyone.

The number of times I've seen red ranks in the endgame screen is also incredibly scary and I dread to think what the case would be if I was actually new.

The survivors are so much nicer there. Do you know how nice it feels to see 4 other people say gg in endgame Chat? So far not once have I seen someone wish my family die of a horrible disease or drop every slur under the sun in an attempt to insult someone bevause they lost! I've even had people add me on Steam just to wish me a good week. Its glorious.

Being able to go into games playing relaxed, get 8 hooks quickly and farm points with everyone else is such a nice experience.

Honestly, as bad as this may sound, it's gotten me a whole lot more motivated to play dbd again. Being able to actually have fun while also ensuring other people are able to play the video game they paid for and get Bloodpoints? It's a great feeling. Is almost forgotten that people bring wholesome actually felt nice.

Point of this post? Not a clue. If you're sent to low ranks on accident don't bully them I guess.

I was doing some killer rituals last night and the rank 20 survivors were clearly all new. They immediately and recklessly went for unhooks, swarmed anyone I downed, ran away from me in totally straight lines, etc. I did my damage and whatnot and also tried to sort of do various things to help them learn from their mistakes but ultimately I went easy and deliberately let them all live. Let them have the points and get started off with a positive experience. A couple players did that for me when I started out and I haven't forgotten how it felt.

On the other hand I also had a rank 20 survivor teammate working with the killer and spamming "ha" after the match so I can't speak highly for everyone at that rank, LOL.

  • (EDIT: Saw the thread was necro'd, sorry for adding to it further).

  • I wish that I could communicate the desire for a gnome-hunting event in-game. When I play as the killer I enjoy letting people go a lot of the time, but if the survivors see that I've done so and then wandered off they'll (understandably) just escape and leave little time for trying to find the gnome. Then again that's probably intentional, deliberately giving oneself (and / or others) as much time to find the gnome as possible may be considered a cheat of sorts.

  • Yes. I used it about 45 minutes ago.

So you've reported them now get over it. It's not that serious it's just a video game.

You're really on about getting over a situation that I concluded 15 hours ago.

Your thoughts have been made clear four times. To use your own constructive criticism, get over it and move on.

  • @Mekochi said:

Look, I understand where you're coming from, and I don't understand the full extent of the whole game and what all happened but I will explain something just in case.

I was in a game against a Spirit and two teammates were dead, I was on the ground, Meg was across the map. The Meg was crouch walking away from me, so the Spirit picked me up allowing me to wiggle off. And I will admit, I lead the Spirit to that Meg because I popped 4 generators (2 with the help of the other 2 survivors), got almost every unhook, and did 3 totems.

The Meg played immersed the whole game, being I did not see her at all whether it be she off hiding or whatever, that aggravated me, so I let that Spirit kill the Meg. Let Spirit down me, and it was her choice whether to let me go or hook me, and she let me go. Even messaged me asking why the Meg wasn't picking me up, and that she hadn't even been in a chase with her. And I just said "no clue".

So if a teammate is actively going out of there way not to help, then yes, I will team up with the killer, because that's annoying af.

And I do understand where YOU are coming from. I too have been the victim of lame survivors. I've played several matches where I saw the aura of a particular player just sort of shimmying along from bush to bush on the far end of a map, or even moving from locker to locker in the Badham basement while I and others struggled on hooks. It does happen, and it sucks. I can totally understand being angry with that person. Make no mistake, that anger is justified.

But, just as I'm being told that the proper way to deal with a rank 20 survivor suddenly running to me, bodyblocking me, teabagging me after I've been downed, dancing with the killer, then spamming "ha" and "ehe" in endgame chat is to report them, I would also think that the intended response to crappy teammates is to report them as well. If I recall correctly there's a specific report category for this as there is for mine.

You came to me politely and I appreciate that so I'm not trying to say that I don't feel where you're coming from. I've had your experience, trust me. I myself just wouldn't sabotage the game back, not to the degree that this person did (even if I HAD just been hiding all game, which I hadn't). I would rather try to do something that will curb their behavior, not get vengeance. As satisfying as that vengeance would have been. :)

You had one match in I'm sure many where this happened. I've been playing for years and this rarely happens so just get over it and move on to the next match.

Your own subjective experiences and philosophies differ from mine. The report feature exists for a reason, and I used it for its purpose. If someone is going to exploit unintended vulnerabilities in the game's design for the specific purpose of ruining my experience and wasting my time, I'm going to report them for doing so. If that makes myself or anyone else who has reported such things a lesser person in your eyes, so be it.

  • I think it's a fun little idea.

Its crazy how people don't take a video game that seriously.

Almost as crazy as people being allowed to enjoy their games the way they were designed to be.

  • Why would you assume this?

  • I honestly had no idea that so many people were cool with survivors screwing other players. This legitimately surprises me, but it probably shouldn't.

  • I got the code in my news feed just now. It worked fine for me.

Thanks for this topic though, I don't do social media which is where the codes are often found so I likely would have seen the holiday sweater news - which is above the code - and not noticed that it wasn't the only news of the day. I also think it's cool that the devs had some fun at their own expense with the code name.

250K BP is a nice apology for something that was obviously just an error that will be corrected (if it hasn't already, my ranks are fine).
