Jill and Chris would make perfect sense, although I can't stand Chris personally. I hope we get a male and a female, including Jill.
Jill is easily my top choice (though they wouldn't use the actress from the remakes of 1 and 2, they'd go with that hardass chick from 3. Not my JIll)! Why don't you like Chis? It's the boulder thing, right? :P

For me it's the Redfield siblings since Claire seems to be the most popular female survivor option with the option for legendary skins for other characters, I would totally get behind an Ada skin. For male the most logical to me is Chris as he has been in the most games and they can include some cosmetics for Leon or Barry or even Billy (had to try to not laugh typing that one)
Oh for sure, if they were cool enough to give us legendary skins they'd be able to work in pretty much everybody (which, to be fair, I think would be a great way for them to satisfy most RE fans). I'm just surprised, from an RE standpoint moreso than a DBD standpoint, that Jill has taken the backseat (I myself also don't see many people asking for Chris, but that's anecdotal). Leon and Claire seem to be the most common survivor requests. I wonder if a lot of that comes from the remake or what.
To be fair I haven't played 4 (heresy, I know, lol) through 6 so those characters could very well have become incredibly popular over the years. I'm a bit out of the loop. When I think iconic "Resident Evil" I think of playing the very first game in the basement at 17 years old, laughing at the terrible acting and thinking that Jill was the hottest thing since polygons. It's so ingrained in my memory I have to remind myself that "iconic RE" means lots of different things to lots of different people.
-
-Lol I just wondered how people would react if they gave us an RE survivor and it was Alice from the stupid movies.

Most people seem to asking for or suggesting Jill and Chris, but you can't forget Claire is in 2 and Veronica while Leon is in 2, 4, and 6. Chris is in 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and Veronica, Jill is in 1, 3, and 5. Barry is only in 1, Rebecca is only in 1 and 0, Wesker is the cringiest of all late 90s-early 2000s cringe villains lol
Oh don't get me wrong, Wesker is pathetic. He's just iconic, that's all.
I see lots of requests for Kennedy and Claire, which is fine because I like them all too, but I actually haven't seen many people expressing hope for Jill and even Ethan's getting more love than Chris (which I guess is fine, as I love RE7). I guess Barry's kind of a joke vote but no one seems to even remember that he exists.
I mean it's fine, if Leon and Claire are the popular wishes for survivors so be it, I have nothing against them. I'm just surprised that relatively few people are going with the original team. To me an RE pack with Jill and Chris seems like a natural choice, but then there's no doubting the popularity of the RE2 team either.
-
I'm wondering where all the love for the original RE crew is. I never see people asking for Jill, Barry, Chris, or Wesker. It makes me wonder why everyone seems to be going from RE4 forward.

I mean, I've accepted that an RE7 is probably not going to happen. I'm probably one of the only people who would advocate for Eveline to be put in the game, but since she's not exactly a "fan favorite," it's probably not gonna happen.
I passionately love 75 percent of RE7 (tanker? Nope) but actually find Evie a boring antagonist. By the time the game is over I came to really appreciate her story but as a killer, eh, I'm really over the "spooky kid with black hair" trope.

I didn't say I'm a good killer, I play this game for fun, unlike you I have a life that I don't spend "getting gud" at videogames or posting 4000 times on a forum. And I can tell you I don't have fun having 80% of the match be over in the first minute because I didn't feel like tryharding and getting 4 kills in 20 seconds.
I've seen several of your posts, you seem like a really bitter guy. In another thread you were mocking killers who play for fun, saying that that's just an excuse for their failure not to get a 4K.

that the survivor fault not body blocking or using BT, not only that you should have you exhaustion perk once you get saved. unless you teammate saved you way to early and that on them. If you get camped y our team should be doing gens instead of all rushing to the hook against that bubba.
I have a saying: Altruism kills. Remember that phrase. Burn it in to your mind. It will save you a lot of trouble.
There are times to go for the saves and time to ignore the person who could use help. When the killer won't leave the vicinity of the person who could use help, that's the time to work towards winning the match, not getting both of you killed.
-
Huh, I find Self-Care to be so slow that I wouldn't think it was even worth bothering at a time like that. What do you get, like one sixth of your health back?
As a killer I wouldn't be offended though. That seems kind of silly. The person's taking their brief opportunity to try to heal, I wouldn't take it as some personal slight.
-
I'll be honest, as much as I hate being camped, I don't see it THAT much. Maybe 3 out of every 10 games. That said, that maybe IS a bit much for some people. If you happen to see it in several games in a row I could understand how it could be annoying and seem way more prevalent than it is.
It's been a while since I've been specifically tunneled, I think that most cases of "tunneling" are misinterpretations of their bad luck. Confirmation bias. If the killer downs me, runs back to get someone else, I get healed, and boom, here comes the killer to down me again, it's going to FEEL like I'm being tunneled even though I'm not.
I don't know. I really do wish that survivor vs. killer spite threads weren't so common but I'm also finding out that - sorry my fellow survivors, because believe it or not I AM one of you - some of you really do complain a LOT.

Or you know, people could just accept they lost. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Being delusional and reshape reailty so you still think you won when you didn't seems pretty sad.
But looking at this thread full of people who can't win the game so they pretend they don't even care about it and make excuses as to why they can't get a 4k as killer seems copium is in the air.
It's ok to lose. It's not ok to pretend you won when you didn't win.
Lol enjoying the act of letting survivors escape because someone doesn't care about 4Ks means that they're liars who are making excuses to cope for their lack of skill? Was your psychology degree difficult to obtain?

Hmm, so there does seem to be some consensus that it's a time issue. Interesting.
And, no shinobuSK - this is not bait. I've played maybe 200 games or so and just find specific killers to be insurmountable. Yes, I am quite new. I guess I'll keep trying, just seems like right now, until I've got every perk available and every orange gear available, there's just no chance against those killers.
From my observations Spirit and Nurse are the most hated killers to go against. People call for them to be nerfed pretty regularly.
Wraith is kind of controversial. He got a buff just a few weeks ago that made him better. A lot of older players feel that this brought him from a relatively crappy killer to a "decent" one, whereas a newer player like myself feel that he's just become more cheap and prefer him the way that he was before. So in general, yeah, it seems to be a matter of overall experience with the game. I'd say that practice and skills you learn by playing overall will help to eventually make the harder killers less difficult over time.
Except the Spirit, I guess. :P

Its a great show. The whole series is on Disney+ right now. I've been binge watching it recently. First watched in on putlocker lol so theres tons of episodes I missed because of dmcas.
I missed it during its initial run (don't know how, I'm a total paranormal / crypto type of guy) but then started going through them from episode 1 back in about 2008 or so. I liked it when it was "monster of the week" but then started getting bored with the alien conspiracy stuff. I need to give it another chance I think.

There's a character in the episode "humbug" that has a little brother that looks like a small child stuck in his chest. It can detach himself and goes on killing rampages and makes weird noises. It's closer to the Twin than Basket Case is.
Interesting, thanks for that info. I'm curious to check it out.

Awwwww, thanks means alot, lol
Seriously. In my first couple of weeks playing the game I went against a Huntress and happened to be pretty good at dodging her hatchets. We ran across each other several times in the match and had a couple of good chases.
Eventually I was the final survivor, and she won. But rather than hooking me she got me back up, motioned for me to follow her, and out of sheer curiosity I did. Using her body language as a guide I could tell that she wanted to engage in a test of skill - she headed up to the top of one of those little Autohaven hills and raised her hatchet. I started juking around to indulge her, and managed to get away from all but the last throw. She grabbed some more hatches, I waited, and again she got me up and we went another round. This time she got me with her second throw. After that she brought me to the hatch.
As someone who'd only been playing the game for a week or two that made a huge impression on me and I've never forgotten it. I'd love to give someone else that same feeling. It may sound all flowers and rainbows but sometimes sportsmanship really is more fun than winning.

Heck, I PERFER to get 8 hooks and 4 escapes when I'm killer, because everyone gets out, we had a good game, and they get the 5000 BP for surviving
This. You'd be the kind of player that I would be referencing as a counterargument to everyone who talks about how cheap and toxic the killers are.
-
@Laluzi said:
...I've totally seen killers that are content if everyone escapes but they got 8 hooks. Some even prefer that to getting 6 hooks and 2 kills.
Not everyone has the same idea of winning or losing. For some, that's escaping/4king. For some, it's getting 4 BBQ/WGLF stacks, or doing a rift challenge. For some, it's making good plays in the match and putting up a good fight regardless of the outcome. Being proud of making some sweet moves, getting a hilarious jumpscare on a survivor, or buying your teammates a lot of time even if you died/got clapped isn't being a sore loser unless you heckle the other players about it (and the other players didn't open up by making fun of you, because the ass is always on the player that initiates bad manners.) In some cases, that's being a better sport than the alternative, which is being super pissy in endgame chat if you didn't manage to escape/kill and being unable to enjoy the game unless you hard dominate in every possible way.
If survivors are opening up with 'I died but you sucked more, haha pallet go bonk on your head', then yeah, they're being dicks. But if survivors are going 'at least I stunned you four times' after you tell them GGEZ...
I LOVE letting players escape. Not all of them, not always, but I do it frequently. I get my points from the pressure, the attacking, the chasing, the hooking, etc. Yes, getting the actual kills would get me MORE points, but I have a lot of fun just giving survivors freebies. Nodding at them at the exit gate and seeing them nod back means more to me than a sacrifice does.
So many people play this game to win at all costs. I just want to have fun.

@haeshka said:
I'm having a lot of fun playing, especially as survivor... except against most of the supernatural killers: specifically the Wraith, the Nurse, and the Spirit. These killers just seem completely out of hand.. With ludicrous speeds, especially with the Wraith: who can apparently be everywhere at an instant, how are you supposed to make the game competitive? I'm to the point where the moment I realize it's them, I just give up and wait to lose as there's no chance of play.
Is there something I'm missing here?
At least if I play against someone like the Huntress, I know it's going to be a fun game. If you die to her, it's because the player tried and played it well. You feel like there's a chance, thus: fun. The others I mentioned at the top? Nope. Guaranteed 12 hooks in a row, in three minutes or less.
Others will have more useful advice than myself because I have trouble with two of those killers as well (Spirit, who many people have trouble with, and Wraith, who can be used a bit cheaply depending on the player. Nurse doesn't stress me out too much but I'm in the minority on that).
I'll just say that if you haven't played a great many games yet, just keep playing. Keep practicing. This is a game full of nuance that requires lots and lots of experience against all kinds of players in all kinds of situations to become reliably good at. Don't be discouraged, there are many players who have trouble with certain killers.

When I get a pallet stun all I'm thinking is "oh man, thank god, now time to run". Lol.
That said, I've met and / or read the comments of plenty of survivors who, yes, seem to take special delight in looping killers and getting pallet stuns. Not just "yay, I'm doing well" delight, more like "It just feels so good to watch you suck" kind of delight.

Not fun? Twin and Slinger. Slinger especially. I saw the design and heard the name and thought "oh my god thats so dumb I can't wait". Then I played him and he's very simple and shallow. ALso Pyramid for similar reasons to Slinger. Very unimaginitive power.
Twins have a hilarious concept (thats literally ripped 1 to 1 from an episode of X files) but my god, what an awful power design.
Killers I didn't expect to enjoy.. probably Doctor. I used to think he was really clunky but his rework streamlined his modes and now he's one of my favorite. Plague too. I don't play her often but enjoy her.
Are the Twins really just like a character from X Files? I always just assumed Basket Case.
-
Something the survivor can drop that, once stepped on or otherwise interacted with, will reveal the killer's aura for a while.
Something that the killer can use to break a repaired generator.
These types of things would obviously have to be tweaked for serious balance though.
-
I have to take the same position on this that I always do: It sucks to be the person being tunneled, and it REALLY sucks to be the person getting camped. To be face-camped is to not play the game. It's not the slightest bit fun to wait several minutes or more to find a lobby, get into the match, and then just be restricted from doing ANYTHING because the killer wants to play cheap.
That said, it's a strategy and a fair one. Sacrifice one player, sure, but if the rest of the team is smart they'll use that opportunity to pop those gens. Being face-camped has little to no counterplay for the person on the hook, but the strategy itself comes with legitimate risk. For that reason I find it fair, if profoundly irritating.
I like to play stealthy. I prefer it. I'm already punished enough by not getting all the aggro points that others get for running around the killer (you can literally do three gens and escape and you'll still get less points than someone who did 2 and got killed), I don't need people telling me that I'm "not playing" or "just hiding all match" just because I try to stick to the shadows and choose my actions more carefully. There's no rule that I have to sacrifice myself for my teammates and I've learned that altruism usually means self-harm. That doesn't mean that I don't help out my teammates and love doing it - I do. I just play more conservatively, I try to avoid the killer as much as I can. That's how I like to play, and I find that to be a valid strategy. Now, what about the people who DO just hide all match, camping in corners, hiding in bushes, and moving from locker to locker? I hate that #########, but I've had others tell me that this is also a valid strategy, so I don't know.
Teabagging, I've heard, is a good way to psych out the killer and trick him into getting angry and making mistakes. Same with the flashlight abusers. I have to admit, it works. I've thrown entire games to focus on killing the person who did those things to me. So I can't say that those things are necessarily toxic either. They feel like legit strategies that, again, come with legit risk.
Teabagging at the exit gate? Stupid. That's done for literally no other reason than to mock the killer for not winning. Insulting end-game chat? Also a different story.
-
I disconnected recently but I was the only person in a match and it was to get back at the killer who was just ######### with me. It was a Pyramid Head who'd killed everyone but me, and I managed to get to the exit door. I started pulling the lever, he caught up with me, downed me, and I figured "ah, bummer, but it happens". But then he opened the door (how do killers do that by the way? I've tried but never got the prompt), dropped me, and allowed me to crawl toward the exit. He followed me the whole way and I thought that he was leading me to escape. I felt grateful. You know where this is going.
He grabbed me when I was within arm's reach of the escape line and started carrying me to the nearest hook. After rolling my eyes in exasperation and throwing out a select combination of words I then said "ya know what"? Boom, disconnect. I laughed to myself, knowing that in exchange for all of my points I'd deprive him of his sleazy little victory. It was worth it.
Beyond that, yeah, I try really hard not to be the DC guy. It really does screw the other survivors for no good reason.
-
The xenomorph on the Nostromo would be amazing. Imagine a killer who could crawl through vents that survivors couldn't access.
The devs actually said that they'd never add a clown because coulrophobia is an actual thing? That's interesting.
-
I thought that Pyramid Head would be tremendous based on my familiarity with him from Silent Hill but his powers and abilities just feel awkward to me. He was my first realization that all killers have roughly the same speed and weapon length. I was picturing a somewhat slow killer who could nonetheless devastate you with a single hit from a good eight feet away at any time.
Conversely I didn't think that Legion would be anything noteworthy but I actually enjoy using him.

I've seen it happen but very rarely. It could be that there's 4 survivors for every killer that it just feels like survivors DC more often. I've had killers quit because they failed to get a hook by the time 3 gens popped. I've seen killers quit because ruin was found. I had 1 bubba rage quit because he was chasing me for a good while. He got close, sprinted with his chainsaw and somehow I dropped a pallet perfectly to stun him without his chainsaw breaking it.
Ouch. Getting 3 gens down is probably the most consistent average in any of the games I've played (sometimes we don't get any, sometimes we get them all, but at least 3 seems to be the most common result) so yeah, having a killer DC just because of that is pretty rough.

Yes surprisingly and for just as weird of reasons. I took a hit for someone and they DCed. I headon someone and they DCed. I saved someone from a facecamping trapper with BT and they DCed. There is hella weird DCs for both sides.
LOL taking a hit and then having the game end because of a DC is really amusing to me for some reason. It's almost as if the killer was like "oh no, what have I done?" and disconnected out of regret. XD
-
Even humanoid characters could still be monstrous, like the Blight. There's the alleged Flatwoods Monster, Cthulhu, the Jersey Devil, etc. Not saying that they'd need to use those characters specifically (Cthulhu would have to be at least slightly resized, LOL) but just pointing out examples of how they could still use the same basic humanoid structure yet make wild monsters with them.
Though I myself am also hoping for killers like Carpenter's Thing, Cronenberg's Fly, some kind of skittering spider monster, etc. They could really do some horrific stuff.

- my friend is called camy. I typed something like "that hit on camy was strange" and "on camy" got censored
- I can't write german in chat. Random words, which I don't even know why they should be censored with english mindset, are filtered. Like every third sentence. Stuff like 'oh man' in german -> "mann" is censored
- "jap" is the german equal to "yup", also is censored
"Jap" is understandable because it's frequently used as a derogatory slur towards Japanese (or sometimes just Asian in general) people. Can't understand censoring something like "mann" though. I'm struggling to think of what potentially offensive word that one could even be confused with.

Funny you should say that, because kids and teens are the ones who use profanity every other sentence. As I grew older, I noticed that adults who acted the part rarely used profanity at all. Not because they're "no-no words" (which, incidentally, is why kids and teens use them so much, because of the "thrill" of saying/doing something "naughty"), but because there's really no need, and using them every other sentence decreases their impact.
I know you don't like me very much but I agree with this.

Do any of you see killer DCs? I've had that happen a couple times and can only assume that it's because of a lost connection. It seems weird to me that a killer would ragequit.

In my experience, Huntress. I rarely play against one who's bad, but I also rarely feel like I have no chance against her. My dodge rate against her hatchets is pretty high but I've certainly taken some wonky hits.
I see a lot of people say Oni. I wish more people would play him, I like him but hardly ever see him at all.

Thing is that at some point, spawning directly in front of the Killer’s path was really funny. Like this clip I recorded in 2018 when I got DBD with PS+.
Edit: I should have added though that this Killer didn’t actually tunnel me. I spammed windows to get away from him but he broke off very quickly and went elsewhere, which made this particular match much more enjoyable.
Nowadays? It’s nearly every singular match that I am being the first person found or chased. It’s to the point I let the Killer kill me straight away because I’m getting sick of being the first one tunnelled out of the match. I actually started running Decisive Strike when it got its rework just to mitigate this stupidity, but the fact Survivors howled for ######### blood just because their cancer perk has been fixed (ie, is not obscenely and gamebreakingly broken) has exacerbated the tunnelling issue all over again.
I love this game and I want to keep playing it, and I want to start enjoying the role I don’t play as often by sheer happenstance because literally everything is trying to force me into the Killer role that I don’t want to play as much anymore. But I can’t enjoy it when I don’t get the chance to play the role I want to play. It’s especially worse now that it can take up to ten minutes to get into a match, into five minutes of loading, and two minutes on the hook into a death, starting all over again, when I oftentimes only have three hours a day three times a week to play, sometimes more if I’m lucky.
At least now I’m finding time to do more than only burning my Resin in Genshin Impact, and playing my PS4 before my Plus subscription runs out next month.
I'm just really happy that I'm not the only person that this is happening to. I mean, I don't want to wish it upon anyone else but anytime I've mentioned it people dismissed it with stuff like "the killer SHOULD spawn near the survivors. What do you want, for them to have to walk all the way across the map by the time you've already done three generators"?
It's like "no, I would just like to be able to go more than six to ten seconds before I'm already being chased". And man, I share your frustration of being the first person attacked. I can go slow and stealthy, avoiding the first couple gens altogether, or I can immediately rush for the first gen I see. Doesn't matter. The killer will find me, and quickly, and as per his or her contract go directly for me regardless of how many other survivors are surrounding me. It has happened so many times I've honestly questioned whether I've accidentally equipped some kind of item or something that makes me a more visible, desirable target.
@Firellius said:
I think this is a much bigger issue than people realise. The amount of swing between 'survivors spawn scattered, far from killer' and 'survivors spawn together, in front of killer' is probably multiple minutes.
It's super frustrating as killer to go for a gen on the other side of the map and it's done before you can get to it, it's super frustrating as survivor to take two steps and be in line of sight of the killer.
Things need fixin'.
As someone who has experienced both of these situations many times, I wholeheartedly agree.

Believe me, Trickster is nothing compared to the crap we put up with back in the day, both Killers and Survivors. Most of the true OG Killer mains are gone to other games, and be glad they are because some are absolute terrors. I remember the days when true infinites existed, there was no bloodlust, hook sabotaging was permanent and there were a total of like 6 good Killer perks. You came during the best time in DbD's history.
From what I've seen and read, I do tend to believe this.

I hear that Legion was hated to oblivion when he came out, what was the story there?
there's no story, old legion was a great addition to the game, but many players complained as usual, they complain about everything. old legion was more complained about because they were teenagers with masks and rubber knife, now look at trickster, and he's nowhere near as complained, because they had a grudge for old legion out of spite.
Uh oh, shots fired!
If it's a design thing I can understand, when looking at some of the contemporaneous killers Legion seems a little out of place to me. But yeah, I look at Trickster and think that the guy just waltzed in from an entirely different game series. Like a miniboss in some kind of vampire game or something. I have trouble sitting here thinking "Okay, there's Freddy, Leatherface, Michael Myers, a crazed psychotic torture doctor, a ghastly Japanese spirit, a floating corpse Nurse, Ghostface, a Kpop DJ...wait -"

Old Legion was hell on Earth, my friend. Especially with things such as Frank's Mix Tape or both Blade add-ons.
So the main problem was that he was way too OP? Broken levels of OP?

That's incredibly fair. When the Twins first came out, I got a five game long strain of Twin games as survivor. I barely ever see the Twins now, but I loathe those games entirely.
Same with Hag. There was a period where I faced a lot of Hags. I haven't seen her in a good week, but she remains and will always remain my least favorite killer to face.
Now that I think about it, I don't think I've faced a single Trickster.
Yeah it's weird how variety can spoil you in a game like this. There are something like 32 maps yet I get frustrated when I never see the indoor ones because they're such a different challenge (and I happen to like them all). And for the killers, for example, I think the Doctor is one of the coolest but after three straight games with him yesterday (one of which was incredibly tense - pressure personified) I just turned off the game for half the day. Similarly I love The Plague and only saw her probably four, five times in the first month of play. I've now seen her probably fifteen times in the last few days alone.
But Trickster, ugh. I didn't like anything about the guy in the first place - his design, theme and aesthetic made me shrug at best and annoyed me at worst - and my sweet lord, I was getting that bastard like seven out of every ten games for a while there. Just constantly hearing his chase music, constantly hearing his incessant giggling, constantly having to run from his stupid knives. Bleh. I couldn't stand it man. It was like initiation torture. But in five years I'll proudly be able to say "I came in with the Trickster. I can take anything".

You know, I never experienced Trickster too many times. I guess I should thank my luck for that.
But Legion... The pain I felt will never be erased.
I hate facing even my favorite killers two or three times in a row. It gets boring fast. Imagine a multitude of matches, for a good two or three straight weeks, against a killer who's annoying and lame in every conceivable way. The whole forum despised him at that time, yet everyone I played against insisted on using him. I will never like that guy, ever. To this day if I get him once every twenty or so games (which is pretty much what it's become) I still shudder when I see him. "Oh. HIM. Eugh".

Considering that thread is now 13 pages long, no, unfortunately I did not have any better luck.
oh my god he was awful. I honestly can't put into words what a shitshow it was. Just...look up some footage from it. It was so bad.
I'm sorry to hear that. From all the posts I've seen you make you seem like a decent, reasonable guy and I'd like you to be able to enjoy the game. Honest condolences.
I wish there were a sort of insider's history of the various releases of all of these characters, comparisons of what they were like versus what they turned out to be, initial reactions to their announcements, etc. I like Legion well enough, I think he's fun to play. But it seems that a LOT of people feel otherwise. I guess I'll have to check around as you suggested.
Vacuum vaults? Wow, I actually just got one of those yesterday, the stagecoach at Crotus Prenn. I went to open a chest inside the interior but instead my character was sucked sideways and vaulted instead, exposing me to the killer and leading to my eventual loss. I never knew that this used to be a common thing, it was the only time I've seen it.

Eh, I got super into Survivor right when original Legion came out.
I love the hamster meme.
I hear that Legion was hated to oblivion when he came out, what was the story there? And by the way did you ever have any better luck with your console? I know that the relatively poor performance had you frustrated.

I think anyone that played during the Dark Times is allowed to have a veteran's discount lol.
I first played justtttt before Clown came out, late spring of 2018.
I began playing IMMEDIATELY before The Trickster came out and had to put up with him twenty times a day. This is a debt that can never be repaid.

DbD has a bit of a wierd progression. When you start, killer is easy AF, because all your opponents are babies and have no clue how to play, because the mechanics and tactics required by survivors are harder than those of killer (at first).
However, then you rank up and go against survivors that know what they're doing and suddenly you have to play twice as good as them for half the reward. You're out there getting punished for half a seconds hesitation while your opponents are second chancing it to victory. And gods forbid you get good survivors, the ones who don't need second chances or exhaustion perks - that's a killers worst nightmare. And you realise that the killers job is to wrest control of the trial form the survivors, and it always has been that way, it's just that back in your early days the survivors practically handed you control in a silver platter with a glowing neon sign reading "Kill Us All" flashing on the skybox.

The best thing you can do as a survivor is learn how to loop. Learn what's a safe loop, what's an unsafe one. How to chain them together, when you can abandon and save a loop after a killer swings to early/uses a power wrong.
As for the specific killers you mentioned...
Nurse is generally seen as overpowered, but she's so buggy and hard to learn you barely ever see her.
Spirit is also an incredibly hated killer, as her whole power is framed in guesswork on the survivors side.
Plague, however, is seen as mid-tier by a lot of people. Her power can be incredibly hit or miss, and if you get good enough you don't really have to worry about being injured.
Iron Will from Jake is a great perk to start with, as is basically all of Dwight's and Meg's perks. You're just barely starting the game, so it's okay to have a hard time learning.
@miketheratguy has 500 hours, and in alot of other games that would be considered a lot of time. In this game, it's still considered pretty intermediate. There is a lot of time involved with learning this game.
I will also warm you that while you don't have to spend money on the game, the grind is... Stupid in this game. It will take a very long time to unlock all the characters and perks you want. Even longer for licensed perks, and you cannot get licensed killers without paying.
I agree with all of this. In particular two points: The ranking system (someone mentioned earlier today that the most comfortable challenge is right around rank 10, the green ranks, which I agree with. Anything less can be too easy, anything more starts to get too sweaty), and the DLC purchasing. You CAN unlock unlicensed (original) characters with in-game currency but it takes a ridiculous amount of time. Additionally, if you were to buy those same characters in the Steam store instead, with actual cash money, you'd usually get more than 1 character per purchase. For example The Hag and Ace Visconti are each the equivalent of five dollars, but if you buy their combined "chapter" on Steam it will be a total of perhaps six dollars. The DLC also seems to go on sale every few months and is very generous, all the DLC is roughly half off during that time. Keep an eye on the Steam store when the Resident Evil content is about to be released.
As for looping, it's definitely a required skill, but it takes a while to learn. Nomi is right: My 500 hours in this game would be a lot for many other titles, but in this game that's intermediate at best. There are people who have spent years putting thousands of hours into this game. Remember: Always learning, always practicing, always getting better.

Great advice. I use Bond, Kindred, sometimes Prove Thyself to help the gens and an exhaustion perk like lithe. Sometimes I will swap out lithe or Prove Thyself for Iron Will if I want to run stealthy or Borrowed Time if I need to do some saves for a challenge.
Thank you. Everyone plays differently and half the fun is finding a combination of perks that works for them but yeah, for me, Bond, Kindred, Dark Sense, and either Prove Thyself or Nea's fast crouching (can't remember what that one's called) are great complements to my more stealthy style. When I get more experienced and aggressive I'll probably run some of the more popular, controversial perks.

Regarding the killers, Nurse and Spirit are almost universally considered the most difficult killers to face. Wraith is a good one to play as when you're still learning the game.
Another thing to keep in mind: It's a common belief that killer games are tougher in the evenings (at least going by U.S. times) because that's when a lot of skilled survivors meet up to play together ("Survive With Friends" or SWF). SWF teams are often called the most annoying types of players to go against, to the point that many killers quit playing the game in the evening (which makes finding evening matches as survivors a longer process).
