I despise the skill check hook system. I had zero problem with it before. You didn't have to "button mash" (which literally means just randomly, feverishly mashing buttons), you just had to tap a single button to a moderate tempo to stay alive. Tapping your finger to the beat of "Every Breath You Take" was as rigorous as surviving a hook. But everyone complained that doing this was causing carpal tunnel, giving them early onset arthritis and breaking their wrists, so I guess I'm happy for those that the new system has helped.
For me? It feels less like a struggle and more like...well, a skill check. I get enough of those from playing the rest of the game. It's also very easy to get distracted and miss the check when a gen blows up or the killer comes back and swats you when the check happens to come. Lastly, there are times when I'm quite ready to just die and move on but I can't, I have to sit for an extra five or ten seconds waiting to fail more than one check to move on.
I'm not saying that the game has to be "my way" or that I don't have sympathy for those who actually legitimately had some physical issue with the previous system. But I think there was a lot of misunderstanding, a lot of people who believed that you had to jam on that escape button as fast as possible to stay alive. You didn't. Calm, rhythmic tapping was all that was required.

I mean you gave up on 3 pallets to just run in a straight line away from them.
I'm not the best at spotting pallets. I'll have to watch the video again. If it was my fault, it was my fault and I'll take that. I'm still a relatively new player. I was just using the video as an example of fast the Wraith is now, how there's essentially little or no way to get a safe distance from him once he comes up on you and uncloaks.
I mean again, two people here said that I missed pallets (though I don't know what the straight line would have helped, I turn around corners and spin and it never makes a difference so I've given up on that). If I played poorly I played poorly. But I would think that being able to immediately jump out of the room before the killer even fully gets through the door and uncloaks, and he STILL manages to catch me, would indicate that maybe he needs to be toned down a bit. I may be wrong but I remember him needing a few seconds of cooldown during the uncloak, now it seems that he's pretty much able to just be on you immediately. That's my main complaint.

What would be the point of being a stealth Killer if you could run to a safe distance before he can uncloak & hit you?
Such a request would make his power useless. 'I sneak up' *Rings bell* 'And now you are too far away for me to hit'.
What would be the point?
It's that odd to you that someone would ask for a chance?
Your argument is that because he is a stealth killer he is essentially supposed to get a free hit.
-
I'm glad that I and some others have been bitching enough about this for others to start taking notice.
I'm fine with the Wraith being able to cloak. I'm fine with the Wraith being able to move super fast while cloaked. All I ask is that when he decides to uncloak, I have a fair chance to get some distance, not just let him have a free hit every time. That was never happening to me before his update, now it happens on a consistent basis. It's too much.
I just posted this in another thread and am not trying to spam my channel (these vidoes are actually unlisted anyway) but I post this as an example. I'm in a room with one exit, a hole in the floor. There's a breakable door. The SECOND that I hear that door being hit, I bail. At the 11 second mark if you look SUPER CLOSE you can see just the Wraith's one foot uncloaking. In other words I jumped up and ran before the killer was even in the room, I was down the next floor before the Wraith even uncloaked, but he quickly ran over and was able to hit me anyway. What, in this scenario, did I do wrong? What could I have done differently to avoid the hit? In what way could I have defended myself against a free hit here?

I get a nice unpredictable assortment when playing as a survivor: Sometimes they get a 4K, sometimes one person escapes, sometimes that one escapee is me, sometimes it's a balance of 2 v 2, sometimes only one person gets killed, and sometimes everyone gets away.
As far as I'm concerned 2 kills and 2 escapes is an even game. The fact that I see this and every other permutation on a regular basis tells me that the game is largely balanced and that it's fun to play regardless of the numerical outcome.

Evil Dead all the way!
There was a 3rd season of the Show as well, which is well worth a look and a reboot, which for 60mins is freaking awesome, before being let down in the final act. DYK there was also a musical, not to mention a whole host of other video games, comics, etc...
Still, they could have stopped at Evil Dead 2 and my answer would have been the same!
Ah okay, my understanding is that the show was canceled after 2, not 3. I'm sure it's good though. And yeah, Evil Dead 2 stands against the best of any of these other properties. That's an amazing movie.

Why the head shake?
i think Scream 4 was pretty well done (and way better than 3)
I shook my head because I gave up watching the Scream movies after 3. You're right, that one was garbage. :)
What I find most interesting is that David Arquette and Courtney Cox were dating during Scream 1, engaged during Scream 2, married during Scream 3, and divorced during Scream 4. I suppose that means that one of them will have killed the other by the time Scream V rolls around, thus completing the cycle.

Pyramid head and Freddy.
Pyramid head because I think he is just cool, I know very little about silent hill but I like p head.
Freddy because he was the first licensed killer I got and I loved playing old freddy. Too bad he is so freaking boring now.
One of the coolest things about Pyramid Head is that you're not supposed to know much about him. At all. He has one specific purpose (well, possibly two, depending on how you interpret some of Silent Hill 2's very metaphorical narrative) and, to be honest, is kind of irritating as the mascot of the series. He was meant for one game, for - again - one VERY specific purpose - and no information about the character was given at all. I liked it that way. On one hand I love that he's become so famous, but things like his inclusion in the Silent Hill film don't really gel with is original lore. It's alright though. He's an awesome character.
Seriously guys, play SH2 and if you absolutely can't, watch a commentary-free longplay of it. It's a tremendous game.

Honestly probably Nightmare on Elm street. It was so mind-blowing when I first saw it. But I like many of the other franchises too. I'm not really counting sequels either - most are nowhere near the quality of the originals.
The third Elm Street is my favorite, but the first is easily the best. That's the kind of thing I myself considered when coming up with my choice for Saw: How much of a percentage of each of these franchises do I truly love? Freddy was my guy growing up but I'd be lying if I said that Elm Streets 4, 5, (especially) 6 were worth watching. New Nightmare was good. Vs. was good. Everyone in the world despises the remake so I haven't bothered and likely never will. Especially since it includes an ogre named Quentin Smith.

I'm not really sure what I could have done differently here to avoid this hit. I'm on my way to the next floor down before the door even breaks and you have to look SUPER FAST to even see that it's the Wraith coming through. Yet he gets me anyway. How much faster could I have possibly acted? How could I have possibly identified who it was that it was about to come through that door? What tactics could I have employed when an invisible super fast killer suddenly comes into the room other than immediately run before he enters, yet STILL get hit?
If a survivor has to have specific things going in their advantage - such as finding the exact type of tiles at the right time, something they are not in control of - to have a fair chance against new Wraith's cheap shots, then I don't find that to be balanced at all. I normally don't complain about killer imbalance but this right here? This is some bullshit. (Sound removed because it's got some pretty frisky language).

Wraith is the new Freddy. Instantly transverse the map with his BBQ, then get a free hit or down with his ridiculous speed boost and lunge.
Watch a wraith carefully to discover his broken power: they uncloak constantly.
Quick example:
I was playing in Midwich yesterday morning. Didn't know who the killer was yet. Another player and I spawned in a room with a generator so why not, we both started working. The only exit I saw was a hole in the floor behind me, and there was a breakable wall about ten feet away. Within ten or fifteen seconds I hear the breakable wall getting hit, so I immediately fled the generator and jumped down the hole. Without exaggeration I saw the feet of the Wraith's feet begin to appear just before I passed from that floor to the one below. I had that much time to get away from him. I was already on the next level down before the Wraith even fully decloaked.
I desperately ran for my life, turned around the first corner I could find, but within about five seconds he'd already caught up with me anyway. I had enough time to actually LEAVE THE ROOM and get onto a different floor before the Wraith even got halfway through his cloaking procedure, yet he caught right up to me as if I had just stayed in the room and feebly run around a desk. I had several seconds of a lead and it still wasn't enough. That tells me that his cooldown is negligible or nonexistent. I had no chance. LITERALLY before he even entered the room I was jumping down the hole, to the point that he didn't even fully decloak before I was already gone. Yet he still got me immediately. What was I supposed to have done? What chance did I have? How much faster could I have possibly acted?
There's something wrong with this picture.

This is my honest, objective experience with The Wraith, so I hope to answer the question as best as I can:
I've been playing the game for only two months. In that first month I found the Wraith really solid. Fun to play as, as well as against. His powers were impressive, but there felt like enough balance to keep him in check. Yes, he's invisible and yes, he's super fast, but that bell - which I thought was a really cool bit of character flavor as well as an ingenious bit of balance - made it so that if you heard it, you still had a chance to get away.
I don't know what happened but I now despise the Wraith. I absolutely cannot stand him. He seems just plain ridiculously OP to me. There are two reasons for this: He seems to have lost the cooldown between when he hits his bell to uncloak and can begin moving again, OR the slowldown that he previously experienced when coming out of cloaking was greatly reduced. Additionally, I've played two matches against him where there was no bell. I thought that this was a glitch, but was told that no, he can now play in such a way that he can uncloak silently.
IF both of these things are true, then we had a killer who could be invisible and incredibly fast BUT had to dramatically slow down and loudly announce his presence when he was preparing to strike, to a killer who can be invisible and incredibly fast AND does not considerably slow down nor need to announce his presence when he uncloaks. In the past I felt that I had at least a fifty/fifty chance of getting away from him when I spotted his blur coming or heard his bell. Now, it has gotten to the point that even if I see his blur rushing in and take off out of the room before he's even begun uncloaking, I still get smacked almost immediately. Then there are the times when I didn't hear a bell and just didn't happen to be looking in his direction when he came flying toward me, so I went from moving around and / or trying to get something done to BOOM, now I'm being attacked out of nowhere. There's no counter to that. People say "oh, just make sure you're always against a wall or window. Well, I can't really make the game service me in that way.
Long story short, I thought that Wraith was solid middle to upper tier. Easy to use, but quite possible to still counter or evade. Now, in my experience, he cannot be properly countered or evaded. I hate him. People want to disconnect when they see The Spirit, I want to disconnect when I see the Wraith. I'd honestly rather face the Spirit to be honest. At least in her case there are various tells. I feel like I have a chance. In the Wraith's case it feels like a literal example of - and I have been avoiding this word as long as possible - legitimate imbalance. They tipped things just enough in his favor to make fighting him way too unpredictable, at best, or way too unfair, at worst.

I got Halloween after Stranger Things. Because I was told Myers was the best killer in the game. (Yeah, I feel lied to!). Also Decisive Strike sounded like the best thing ever even to a newbie like me. Followed by Saw for Surveillance and Leatherface for BBQ+Chili. Though I bought Saw for Surveillance, I became a Pig main because <3 Pig. *boop*
I love the Pig but it guts me that I can't play a version of Amanda without the mask. Hubba bubba!
Everyone told me that Freddy was the best killer in the game. But I rarely ever face him, so when I do I don't really understand his powers. Now I hear everyone say that he sucks. I don't understand life anymore. I do like Michael though!

Honestly? Haven't gotten past 2 yet. Maybe it's dumb to call myself a fan when I've only played the first, but I absolutely love that first game and the overall aesthetic of the series, and have already had a ton of stuff spoiled anyways.
There's nothing wrong with that, especially since the first game is a Barker-esque icon of atmosphere and production design. Kind of a messy story though. If you know nothing of 2, keep it that way until you can play it. It stands alone (no connection to the others) and is what I consider to be possibly the best story and presentation in video game history. 3 connects with 1 and was definitely good, just lacking the visceral details of the first game and the incredible narrative of the second.

Probably Silent Hill, Texas Chainsaw is a runner-up for me. Don't have much interest in the rest beyond Stranger Things, honestly.
What were your thoughts on Silent Hill 3? I was surprised that I was somewhat disappointed with the game. I felt that it just didn't live up to the first 2, and then the series just seemed to get worse. That's why that one's not at the top of my list.

Yeah I guess I could technically count RE now, I was just going by what's currently available. We can throw in RE if that's the one that a lot of people would choose.
For me the first DLC was Silent Hill, then Saw, then Stranger Things. All really solid entries in my opinion.

If we don't get the Baker Estate or Spencer Mansion, I'm punching my copy of the game. And my game is a digital copy.

As much as I adore the first three movies in the Saw franchise, as well as the iconic "Hello Zepp" theme music, I think that hearing it all the time would dilute its impact. In the films - especially in its first use - it triggers the emotion of shock, whereas in the game it would just be another action tune.
I love the theme, but using it for a chase just doesn't "fit" to me. Myer's chase music works because that's what it always was. Hello Zepp was used as a slow-burn creepy reveal. I'm personally happy that it's not in the game, even though I understand those who want it. It's a great, unforgettable tune.
EDIT: I skimmed the thread. I see that a lot of people would like for the tune to begin when reverse bear-trapped. That would be a different scenario, I wouldn't mind it so much then. It's more true to the theme's "point". Having it play when the endgame collapse begins would also be pretty badass. So yeah, that's cool. Just not as chase music. :)

- He belongs, unquestionably. The game is noticeably incomplete by his absence.
- Legal technicalities suck.

Hehe, happened yesterday with what I think was a 4 man swf. I wanted to do one last match as Pig, but when that match started my connection went absolute potato despite my Ping being great in the Lobby and all my matches before running smooth too.
I was chasing this Claudette when all of the sudden she just stopped at a Chest to pick up a item and in general just stopped moving. The 2 Survivors near also stopped moving and just watched. I believe they saw me badly lagteleporting. I quickly noticed that they were trying to be friendly and I took that opportunity, a serious lagging match wouldn't have been fun for me or them.
The normal friendly Pig shenanigans happened, I also tried to figure out if they had difficult challenges or achivements they could use my help with. But the Highlight was that Meg with an active trap at a Jigsaw Box I camped, she was doing "######### bro" movements for quite a while until she realized she had to pay toll in form of a boop, I was pretty much able to notice the "Aha!" moment, haha!
During Endgame I tried to communicate to the other Meg "Dude I'm missing your BBQ stack if that's ok" which I think she understood but wouldn't hand over without a fight. The others joined in with planned bodyblocking and I was getting stuck by them in corners and trees quite often, but I got her after a long while (she was a great looper and I wanted to challenge myself to not hit the bodyblockers unless I got stuck). As I tried to pick her up, and while being surrounded by the other 3 like I was some kind of sacrifice, the connection finally gave up.
The fact that they started the friendly stuff in a non mean manner because they noticed something was wrong was very kind of them especially since I was dreading the lag, and I think they didn't mind my immediate friendliness back too. Hope they at least safety pipped. Wasn't their fault they got matched with The Sudden Toaster Wifi Pig
Good for all of you. Sportsmanship is the best thing about this game.

Yesterday morning I played against a good Trapper. He was kind of decimating us at the beginning, lots of pressure. We slowed things down a but but after a little while it was an inevitable 2 vs 1 situation with too many generators to go. The Trapper got the other survivor down and I wanted to help her but he knew that I'd been working a gen with her so after downing her he started roaming the immediate area looking for me. Then, using her as bait, he hung around right next to her waiting for me to come for the rescue.
However, I knew exactly what he was doing. I knew based on the fact that I didn't see him leave the area, and the sense of knowing what I myself would do as a killer in that scenario, that he was using the downed survivor as bait. To ensure this I carefully made my way around parts of the map to confirm that yep, he was hanging right over the downed survivor.
I felt bad - she had to just sit there for several minutes, knowing that I was just a quick rescue away. I hoped she understood why I wasn't going for her. Instead I devised a counterplay: I faked the killer out. I ran to a generator and blew it on purpose, then ducked back behind some cover to see if I could watch and catch him leaving the survivor's area. It worked. He went to investigate the generator and probably thought "that #########, he's not coming for the bait", lol. I hung around the general area for a minute to see what he would do and, unfortunately for me, he decided to start exploring a wider radius around the generator and I didn't really have any way to get further from him without being spotted. He saw me, clobbered me, and it was game over for both of us.
In the end-game chat I apologized to the survivor I failed, letting her know that I went for a psych-out to draw the killer away but that he caught me. She didn't respond (which honestly does make me feel bad, she probably thought that I just decided to abandon her when in fact I was trying to trick the killer into letting me save her). To my surprise the killer wrote back with a laugh and a "gg". We traded a brief couple of messages about how he's new to the PC version of the game but is getting better and I told him that he made for a good hunter killer. We basically said "cheers" and moved onto the next game.
As always, I don't care if I win or lose, I just like to have an enjoyable back and forth game that lasts a decent amount of time. This one even involved a rare bit of cat-and-mouse strategy plays. These are the games I love the most. It doesn't have to be about survivors gen rushing or killers camping, it can be a game where people actually try to do their best in a fair and balanced match and still respect each other regardless of the outcome. I love games like this.
-
The definition is subjective but I think of "toxic" as an attitude more than an action. The animosity spewed by survivors against killers, killers against survivors, the general incessant complaints about the developers and how "inept and lazy" and everything else they're claimed to be, etc., THAT to me is what makes the community toxic.
This is semantic but I don't consider things like facecamping or hiding in lockers all game to be toxic, I consider them to be viable yet annoying strategies that make the game more difficult and / or straight-up unenjoyable for the other players of the game. That doesn't really seem "toxic" to me, that just seems "douchey". The kind of thing that causes frustration but doesn't necessarily give the game and its community a bad name.
TL;DR: Every online game has childish, irritating, ######### players that enjoy making things worse for others. Those people are pathetic, and it is what it is. But when I think of "toxic" I think more about the relentless war between people who insist that the game needs to be played a certain way and that everyone who doesn't do so is the enemy.
-
I've never really been in a lot of situations where a survivor was physically blocking exactly where I wanted to go and I was close enough for the blocking to take place. Is BT required for that? Does that mean that you'd pass through them otherwise? I ask because I noticed that twice in as many days I was physically blocked, almost seemingly on purpose. Once at the top open door of the Ironworks or some similar spot and once on Dead Dawg when I was on the "inside" area of a generator, two players took the flanking sides, and when the killer approached they both closed me in, our backs were against a structure and I literally couldn't escape this little two square-foot area that I'd been trapped in. To my shock the killer just stood there for a few seconds and then walked away, I think he saw me frenzy back and forth and then look at him in desperation like "dude, do you honestly see this #########"?
-
To me that just makes sense, I remember watching "The Best Friends" (Matt and Pat) do a 45 minute DBD play back in the late 2010s and they actually discussed this, I think one of them laughed at the other for doing just that. Part of the discussion was "You just made yourself look like a total idiot in front of your victim which was the last thing that they saw before they died", lol.
-
This happened to me today. I was playing as Billy and doing surprisingly well for myself considering I'm not a killer main. By game's end two hooked survivors died (on their first or second hooks, I got a great pressure score), the third survived with a missed attack right at the gate, but the fourth disconnected when I hooked her.
I felt really bad. I've experienced games so frustrating that I wanted to DC. I don't want to cause that kind of frustration for someone else. But if she was paying attention she'd definitely have known that I was chainsawing all the way from one end of the map to the other, back and forth, repeatedly, and catching anyone I caught a glimpse of. She just happened to be spending pretty much all of her time in one relatively safe area near a gen that she just didn't want to let go, and it finally caught up with her.
I think that she must have felt tunneled, but I was downing everybody. She must have felt that, because I kept coming back (which also means that I kept leaving) that I was going for her specifically. I wasn't. In fact I was doing a ritual and was trying to deliberately give everyone the breathing room to escape. But she DC'd, and it honestly bummed me out. At the same time though I couldn't help thinking "well what was I supposed to do, just ignore you the whole match?"

The Plague has so much potential when played well, but she's not overpowered. She's got a great look and great lore behind the character. Here's hoping that this Tome will shine some light on her, and that more people will play her than currently do.
Yeah I fully agree. I feel that The Plague is very finely-tuned. In a game where I can't stand how OP some killers feel and get annoyed facing some killers that just seem...well, annoying...The Plague is one of the ones that sits right in my comfort zone of "just right". She's fun to face, I bet she's fun to play.
-
Yeah to me the puking is hilarious because it's so overdone. To see projectile vomit that's like a gallon of generic, cliche green slime shoot out of the survivors while they're going "GLARBLELCH" just gets me every time, even if it's my own character. It's so silly for a game like this. I honestly hope they never change it.
It's like when Meg gets hooked. Sometimes her cries of agony literally amount to "nnGLEH".

I don't understand why I'm the only one who feels that Wraith has been overly buffed. It seems like he no longer has any cooldown between de-cloaking and striking and more than once I've faced him with no use of the bell. If being invisible, incredibly fast, and almost totally silent isn't enough to make a killer pretty high tier, I don't know what else he needs to get there.

well, i can at least say that this tome is turning me into a plague main. she's just very enjoyable, once you get over the whole... vomiting thing.
i'm good, so long as i don't think about what it smells like.
I dug her from the start. I haven't played her yet but to my style she seems like she has good perks, I LOVE the sound of all those running cleansing fountains, and again, I get a kick out of the overdone "BLEARGHHGH" puking that the survivors do when they've become fully sick. Plague just makes for a fun game in my opinion. I may not have enjoyed going against her 476 times today, but I'd take those 476 times over a single Wraith or Hag anyday. Those characters just drive me up the damn wall.
-
I use Prove Thyself a lot, I wasn't aware that it was another thing that killers hated.
Sometimes I work gens together, sometimes I don't. Same with hiding until you know who the killer is. That's seen as a bad thing? I mean I don't sit in a locker or just camp the corners of the map but I do play conservatively, I don't just go rushing out waving my arms trying to get the killer's attention so I can engage in a successful hook right away. I guess I'm playing the game wrong.
-
Yeah to be honest I like The Plague and always did. I was disappointed that one of the more unique killers, in my opinion, never seemed to be chosen. I group her with others like Huntress as solid, fair opponents that I have a pretty even track record against. But after seeing her literally like 15 times today it DID start getting pretty tiresome. The three times in a row (two on the same map) was where it really became too much.
I'm gonna miss those hilarious survivor puking sounds though. XD
-
I love sportsmanlike behavior in this game so much. I don't care if I win or lose, but when I get a win because the killer was cool it just makes my day. I always try to catch them in post-game and thank them but they're always already gone. I at least try to nod and let them know in-game, as much as I can, that I appreciate their generosity. In fact I was playing as Billy today and I deliberately spared everyone, meaning that I didn't slug or camp, because (A) I don't play that way and (B) I was just catching up an old ritual I never finished with him. When two of the four people I hooked died because I guess I put too much pressure on them, and one person even disconnected, I legit felt guilty. I NEVER want to be the guy who makes someone else so upset or frustrated that they're happier just to disconnect. How am I supposed to play as the killer when I have so much sympathy for the survivors, lol?
A Legion gave me the hatch today. Great guy. And while playing on Hawkins I was casually strolling around, checking to see what was what near the game start, and as I approached an exit into one of the hallways I noticed that one of my fellow survivors was crouched at the door. I thought "great, what's this, are you trying to block me"? and as I walked towards him it suddenly dawned on me that it was a black-clad Ghostface with a red mask just sitting there with his knife in the air. Once it registered - at about the same time that he sprung forward to attack me - I got literal chills, honest hair standing on my arms goosebumps. It was such an amazing startle. He was just sitting there quietly, utterly still, with his knife ready to go, and after the couple of quick seconds it took for me to realize this I was SO surprised that it honestly felt as if it was happening to me in real life. Best scare I've ever gotten in this game. It was awesome.

You actually face good Hags an Ultra Rare spectacle.
You don't get good Hags? Man, the Hag players I've been up against are lethal.
-
I actually feel that Plague is one of the more solidly balanced killers, the only thing I don't like about her is that her barf can down you in two hits as if they were fifty foot-long strikes. I'm probably wrong but I don't remember her being able to just straight up slug you with her vomit.
Beyond that I like her, aside from the 10,006 times I've been up against her today for some reason.

Oh come on. There's more to it than that.
I guess you DO have to actually get from the lobby to the actual match, that's true. :D
Don't mind me. I have zero doubt that it takes a lot of skill to get really good with the Hag. I take nothing away from the people who really know how to use her well. It's just that that seems to describe EVERY Hag player I ever encounter, lol. She's a nightmare.

You’re not wrong. 👏🏻
And those fifteen minutes that precede it?
When the camera suddenly cuts to black and the credits appear it's the movie's way of saying "Congratulations, you have now made it through hell on Earth". A masterpiece of a film.
-
I call a gen rush "playing the game as it was intended".
That said, I'm not going to pretend that I like super fast games on either side. I don't care so much about winning and getting lots of points, I play this game to...well, play the game. If most of my time is spent in menus and queues it's not very fun. I like my games to last at least 7-10 minutes or longer, if possible. That to me is a well-played match.
Blaming the survivors for trying to achieve the specific goal that they've been given though? Silly.
-
I enjoy going against the nurse as well. I'm fairly decent against her for some reason.
The Huntress is the killer that I find to be the most solid, well-rounded character. I never feel that I lost cheaply against her, and my escape rate against her is probably in the 50 / 50 range. The Oni's pure brute strength and rage makes him a fun threat to have roaming the map, I wish more killers used him.

People associate light with being safe and the dark with being in danger. Somebody or something willing to hunt you down in the harsh light of day comes across much more menacing to me.
That ending shot is still probably the greatest ending shot in any horror film, ever.
-
I like the look of new Coldwind from what I've seen in screenshots (haven't played it myself yet) but I didn't know that all five versions of the map were changed. I assumed that with that many, some would be light and some would be dark. I have to admit that I'm disappointed that all of them are daytime now, that was one of my favorite locations and I'll miss playing it at nighttime. A couple of each doesn't seem like it would have been unreasonable.

Your actions don't match your words.
People who are genuinely indifferent to something don't bother with it (see my analogy with what we do in science). They might take notice of the thing they don't care about, but they won't make however many comments you just made in this thread. For example, I noticed there's a thread titled "I am worried for BHVR.". From the title, I can probably guess what it's about, but I don't care, so I didn't even bother to click on it.
If you truly didn't care, you would not be arguing this much. You wouldn't even have made a single comment. You'd have glossed over the thread entirely.
You got me. I secretly hate gays. I'm actually a hate-filled bigot. You know me well, you're obviously very well versed in the friendships I've had within the LGBT community, the things I've done to help them, and basically who I am as a human being. It's amazing what kind of truths psychoanalysis and guesswork can provide, but who needs those when you have that nice psychiatry degree on your wall, which I'm sure you do.
You win, I'll be leaving this thread. I am completely and utterly exhausted from trying to explain that I'm on your side, I simply don't like the intolerant, petty, belligerent way that you choose to go about your mission. Ironically this is what I complained about in the first place: You don't make your point in a positive way by being a jerk to anyone who happens to disagree with you. But in the end what's the point? You have the highest post count, you've dealt with ######### before, so you can innately sense that I am also one of those ######### because...I've tried to defend myself with too many posts. Shrug. Alright.
The saddest thing about this experience is - and you don't believe me but I no longer give a ######### - that I never met anyone who made me question my support and goodwill for the LGBT community until I met you. So good luck, I hope you get all that you want and more, and thank you for being a shining example of the patience, kindness, respect, and tolerance that you claim to be all that you want from anyone else.

Someone’s sexual orientation can be important to people without it being their entire identity. It has a huge impact on our life experiences, so shoving it aside as ‘unimportant’ is not okay.
Your argument assumes that what you think is okay is more important than what someone else might think is okay. That because something may be a huge part of your life it has to be a huge part of the games you play.
But I've realized that I can't win with you either. You've misquoted me and put words in my mouth such as "gays shouldn't be in the media and if they are they're being shoved down my throat". That completely misconstrues my argument and I never said anything of the sort. If you're not referring to me, I'd be curious as to who you are.
I've said my peace, I'm exhausted being forced to defend what I consider to be rational views on the basis that they don't happen to align 00 percent with yours, even if we're in agreement on the end result. Mock me, block me, whatever you like. I've been as polite as I can manage and my comments are still being picked apart. I feel that this thread has demonstrated multiple times that for claims of wanting nothing more than inclusion and acceptance, there is a surprising rush to judgment and notable lack of tolerance on display.

Given that the non-heterosexual stuff, just like the heterosexual stuff, will be in the lore, why did you feel the need to say this?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2160091#Comment_2160091
It will literally not affect you, you will not "see" anything unless you go out of your way to read the lore (that you claim not to care about).
This goes back to what I said: nobody cares about the lore until it might have non-heterosexual references. Then it's a huge ######### deal.
I said that I don't care either way. I thought I was super clear about the fact that a character's sexuality in this game doesn't bother me one way or the other because it's not something that I really think about.
I feel like I there's just no way I can win here. I tried.

Not this again.
I'm just going to leave my opinion here, and honestly if I get in trouble for it, I don't give #########. ATP it would just be suppression of my freedom of speech.
I have no issue with a character being gay or bi or lesbian. While I feel it to be unnecessary and "catering" (one could say), I can swallow my pride for that and suck it up
However, as a conservative and a proud believer of science I don't believe a trans character aligns with my beliefs about biology. I (and many others I know) wouldn't appreciate having one in the game. That's putting it lightly.
Any replies to this comment need to be directed to my wall. I enjoy discussion.
I'm not going to take a position on your stance because, as I said in previous posts, every individual has a right to feel how they like about things of this nature. I just wanted to say that "freedom of speech", while varying between countries, in the US at least means "the government shall not make laws restricting your freedom of speech". This doesn't apply to forums like this one, or restaurants, or what have you. It just means that you can't be arrested for going out into the middle of the street and saying that you think Dexter is the worst show in the history of television. Even THAT comes with caveats, as certain types of speech - mainly that which is threatening - can, in fact, land you in prison.
Just saying. :)

I mean.. why are people coming here saying „I don’t care but leave LGBT out of my video games“ if they truly are tolerant? It’s only natural to get defensive when you get such offensive statements.
if people don’t care they could just ignore this discussion or the inclusion. But they do care and try to find excuses why it’s okay to be intolerant against LGBTQ+ when they clearly have no problems with heterosexuality mentioned everywhere. and believe me, no one of the people ever could give a valid argument for that. That point is where they get silent or insulting.
I don't know, I can't answer that because I'm not one of them. :)

Because I see the same patterns. These people make the same arguments, use the same talking points, post the same comments. So when you come here with a dog whistle like "identity politics" (which, as I said, is only ever used to prevent people from being treated the same as everyone else), I extrapolate from my years of dealing with these people and conclude that you're one of them.
If you're really not one of them, then I have two things to ask of you:
First, put yourself in our shoes for two seconds. Nobody says anything about heterosexual lore, for years. In fact, hardly anyone comments on the lore to begin with. No complaints about how sexuality "doesn't belong" in DbD, no complaints about having sexuality "shoved down our throats", nothing.
When the devs imply there will be non-heterosexual lore at some point in the future, suddenly everyone cares about the lore, the quality of the devs' writing, they complain about "identity politics" (see above), "political agendas" (another meaningless term), and so on.
The only difference is the lore (that they claim not to read nor care about) might include explicit references to non-heterosexuality. Are we supposed to conclude that their problem isn't LGBT characters?
In science, when you change one variable and your system doesn't change, you can say your system is independent of that variable. However, if you change one variable and the system changes completely, and this happens repeatedly, then you conclude that your system changed because you changed that variable. You don't think "Well, maybe the system isn't reacting to this change, maybe it's this other variable that stayed the same". That's unreasonable.
I know you're probably gonna want to say I'm calling everyone a bigot, but that's not the case. I'm saying that it definitely comes across as such when you (non-specific "you") only complain when it's about LGBT characters/lore.
Second, I want you to look at how the terms "identity politics", "political agenda", "personal agenda", and so on are used. Really look at the context, which things are being complained about under those terms and which are curiously left out. Then tell me if you don't see a certain pattern. Because I sure do, as does everyone else.
The problem, as I see it, is that I seriously don't care at all about sexuality of any kind in this game. Which characters are gay and which are straight is something that would honestly never enter my mind. It's just not something I think about. Maybe that's unusual? I don't know. I just wanted a game where survivors tried to escape killers. When I first got it I had no idea how deep the lore went, and the fact that there are heterosexual relationships doesn't make the game any better or worse to me. I'm completely indifferent. To ME, it doesn't matter. It's a detail that does nothing to change my opinion of the game or its characters. So for that reason, them being gay really makes no difference to me. It's redundant information. If this were a dating simulator, as some have joked(?) then I would find the topic much more relevant. I can't speak for everyone else but that's why I'm not complaining about the heterosexuality in this game: I don't care about the heterosexuality, or any sexuality for that matter, in this game. That's not what the game is about to me. It's a level of detail that, for better or worse, I am honestly not concerned with.
I they want to make everyone in the game straight, fine. If they want to make everyone in the game gay and / or trans, fine. If they want to remove all mentions of sexuality, fine. Again, for ME, these are details that have no bearing on my enjoyment of the game which is why I, perhaps in contrast to the others who came before, don't say anything about the relationships. I just play the game and don't think about them. When I'm being killed by The Hillbilly he's an #########, not the innocent child who was fed through a wall. When I attack a teabagging player, I don't care whether I like the character that I'm playing as. I don't consider the finer details when I play. I just play. That doesn't mean that I'm "right", or "better", it's just why I don't put as much stock into the lore as some of the rest of you do. To me the lore is optional, it's garnish for the main meal.

Am I conflating the fact that you said telling other people that discrimination is bad? Queer people and other minorities are tired of having to fight for equality. We’ve made the same arguments 1000s of times, and change has not happened quick enough. You must understand that when you make arguments like this, you are not helping us progress forwards. There is no room for bigots, and even in a game like DBD, representation does matter.
Please reflect on what you are saying
I don't need to reflect, there is no basis for an argument here. You deliberately took one portion of my post (which I bent over backwards to write in a fair and polite way that someone wouldn't STILL take issue with) and changed the meaning of what I said. I did not say that discrimination and dictating another person's worldview are equal offenses (nor would I, as there is no empirical chart through which to quantify such a thing), I said that both are bad, and wrapped up my comment by explaining that I try to avoid seeing the worst in people. Some people make it more difficult than others.

I will say in support of Mooks and Orion that the mods watch these threads like a Hawk (speaking from personal experience here lol) and they're incredibly quick on the draw. All power to them, homophobia/biphobia/transphobic shouldn't ever be tolerated. But by now a lot of bigoted people have learned their lesson and just stay quiet, or come with the argument of "It doesn't belong in the game." There's always, always, always a but, which is why I was so hostile to you at the start because from my own experience I was waiting for the "I don't care about it but I don't think it belongs in DBD and I'd quit if it were introduced."
I've seen it too many times, so sorry for thinking you'd be the same lol.
I think me, you, Mook, and Orion are all arguing for the same thing, though, just in different ways. Lgbtq+ representation done right to give us equal status to heterosexual relationships and characters. Do correct me if I'm wrong but I think we all want the same thing here.
So, yeah, while you may not see them in this thread, believe me when I say there are plenty.
Well then we're all guilty of the same thing, which is being human. We're all shaped by our past experiences, we all bring a little of what we've learned and dealt with to the table.
Maybe Orion is just sensitive to the issue because he or she (apologies, I don't know) has dealt with a lot of such people and it really hurt, as I imagine it would, so the natural inclination is to assume that anyone who doesn't quite seem on board may be another such person. All I can do is keep saying I'm not, but I don't think most people here have listened. The post I just made about saying that discrimination is bad but so is judging other people solely on their worst acts was basically ignored to isolate one comment, take it out of context, change the words and make me look like an #########. All I can do at this point is shrug my shoulders and say "I feel I've been clear enough, if what I've said is still being interpreted as offensive that's no longer my responsibility to change".
You guys (and gals) have dealt with your share of toxic people who have bashed or otherwise made you feel like lesser people because of your sexuality. That's a shame. It shouldn't happen. I can try to understand it as much as I can but yes, as a straight white male, I haven't had the same struggles. I haven't been in the same position. But, as is only fair, some people like myself also ask for some understanding when they try to explain that the shoe has been on the other foot. There are people who have expressed a militant intolerance of intolerance. People who have, in fact, leveraged their ethnicity or religion or sexuality or gender or any other number of things to force their will upon those who may not have the same opinion, or at least not appreciate it being pushed upon them. Just as actual homophobes display rampant intolerance, so do those who have no patience for people who feel differently about things than themselves. I don't want to have someone call me a bigot for not wanting exclusively gay bathrooms any more than I want someone to call me a race-trader for saying that Denzel Washington is a good actor. I want to live my life and treat people the way I myself want to be treated, and I don't like anyone trying to aggressively push their will or attempt to shame me into accepting something without reasonable discussion. That's all, really.
At the end of the day we ARE arguing for the same side: I'm fine with LGBT characters being in the game. But I also understand and can appreciate the side that says "it's best to leave the whole hornet's nest alone and allow people to come up with their own stories". Neither of these viewpoints are inherently right or wrong, they're merely personal viewpoints. I don't understand why someone should be insulted or seen as some kind of enemy for appreciating the logic of both sides of the argument.

i can definitely confirm there have been countless nasty comments/users that behaved exactly like you have described.
No that's fine, trust me, I completely believe both of you. All I need to do is turn on the television or walk outside my house to believe that this is true.
While it's far less than it was when I was young (I wager there's a good chance that I was around a little while before a lot of others here were), there is undoubtedly still hatred, bigotry and persecution of gay and trans (etc.) people all over the world. I don't like it, I've done my part to change it, and I rejoiced when my country finally caught up to the rest of the world in agreeing that there is (in my opinion) nothing wrong with people of the same gender having romantic, fulfilling partnerships.
That said, I just don't know how or why this thread became so defensive, so fast. I don't know why the default attitude seems to be "tolerate us or you're an intolerant #########". I guess I just don't understand the aggression.
