I've watched both Scott and Ralph.

    • Scott seemed to think he was on the weaker end.
    • Ralph was hesitant to make an early call.

Now, just to get some idea of where you're coming from: is your opinion including his add-ons or just base kit? When I review a killer, I do it without using their add-ons. Pinhead with add-ons is almost an entirely different killer (he actually has a very strong pink, wowee).

    @konchok said:

The only 2 add-ons I use are the ones to reduce the cooldown. I've literally never used any of his other add-ons.

Like I said, Scott was initially saying that he was weak, but his opinion has been changing in his most recent games.

  • The only 2 add-ons I use are the ones to reduce the cooldown. I've literally never used any of his other add-ons.

  • PinHead is the most unique killer that has hit the game in a while, and for that reason people are trying to make comparisons that aren't really valid. His kit is really well designed in my opinion. He's got built in slow-down, anti-loop, tracking, and mobility (in the form of teleports or using his chains to scout)

You can think or believe whatever you want, it's not my job to change your mind. If you think I'm off base, look for a varying number of opinions from people that actively record their matches as a habit - youtubers as an example. Or, better yet, find some Twitch streamers that are playing him and listen to their opinions as they play. I've done both of those things already, and played probably about 30 matches or so with him.

To each their own, I suppose. Time will tell.

I also am a twitch streamer enjoy-er. I've been watching Scott Jund and Ralph, who are both very good with him already. Scott was saying on his stream that the only thing that's really holding him back is the lunge bug, which to be honest needs to be fixed. And Ralph who has been loving this killer, and it's his current favorite (after huntress of course). Do either of these streamers feel that he's the best killer that ever was. No, but neither of these streamers think he's weak either. (Scott initially was saying that he was weak, but his tune has recently been changing as he's been learning the killer) This is not surprising because this killer is very punishing if you miss.

Not really, since I'm not making the claim that he's strong, I'm making the opposite claim. More importantly, what I would show are matches similar to his own: very chill, with nothing new or exceptional. I get it though, it seems you're looking for a 'gotcha' moment rather than considering what I'm saying. I'm willing to be completely wrong on everything I've said about this killer (indeed, I welcome it). I'd encourage you to read the post you quoted very closely before commenting, because I laid out the conditions in which I would post evidence. Posting chill games against average or new survivors doesn't disprove my point.

To truly gauge the strength of any killer, you need to master them first. Only then can you determine if they're weak or strong. Imagine if the released killer was Nurse. I could see you complaining that she's weak just because you haven't mastered her yet.

Show me evidence that you've mastered the killer, and then make solid arguments as to why certain parts of his kit are weak and you could change my opinion. But right now, I think you're just not very good with this killer.

Am I the only one who find his teleport super wonky ? Somehow there is a huge delay beetween the moment you get the killer instinct notification and being allowed to teleport. If you are allowed at all, as sometimes you just can't for no clear reason.

I noticed this too. And also when you come out of teleport the delay before you can do anything is weird, and I hate how your camera direction changes based off of the chain camera. I still love this killer, but no doubt these are things that could use quality of life changes.

Here's the thing, I'm not claiming that I cannot get kills with Pinhead. That was never the argument. The point I've been making is that against good survivors or those that understand his mechanics, he cannot contend at a reasonable pace. I'm not counting games where I do well and the match is obviously very relaxed. In order to be convinced that Pinhead is a good killer, I would need to see some sort of consistent performance by him against competent survivors. Not necessarily the best, but not the worst, either. I wouldn't post any videos of my own matches unless I could demonstrate that I've gone against teams of a high skill level, with this killer, while running the best perks.

Then, I would need a large sample size of matches against said team (or a comparably skilled team), and be able to replicate wins against them at a reasonable rate (let's say 50 matches are played). A win in my mind (since there is no defined win condition that BVHR will share with us) is either a 3k w/hatch, or a 4k. 2k is a draw, and anything else is a loss. Key escapes don't count.

You won't do what you've asked someone else to do. That really puts you in a bad light.

The amount of people playing him speaks for itself really. He is not good, fam. He is not absurdly bad or anything, he is still playable. But, like, no idea why people be fronting.

Thicc - he's a hard killer and can be frustrating to learn. It's not quite as bad as when I was learning Blight but he's definitely up there frustration wise. Which is why I'm loving him. I really like that high risk, high reward play style. He is also somewhat deceptive. His kit offers so much map pressure it's insane. I have had so many games where I'll 4k at 5 gens. The poor survivors are trying to do everything. Get generators, find and solve the box, save survivors. He's got a ton of built in pressure.

Fine, let's do it your way.

Let's assume that you're completely right, and you're the savior Pinhead enthusiasts need. You've discovered the magic playstyle required to make him a solid killer against survivors at your level. Of course you realize I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here in a massive way. So, now I ask: how do these screenshots help anyone? Do you have any videos you can show us that demonstrate your techniques? How do you use the chains, and where do you utilize them to get maximum value? Then, based on the videos you show, we can see the caliber of survivor you're pitted against using your playstyle.

"I 4k'd and here is the screenshot" doesn't give any valuable information as to how and what conditions led to it. There's too much information missing here.

I'd counter that maybe you should be sending us video of your game. Because I think this is very much a you problem. I'm not the person that you're responding to, but my games with PinHead are very similar. I'm getting 4ks in the majority of my games. But to me his attack feels very Blight like, so I just very quickly picked it up and started doing well with it.

  • @solidhex said:

i think most of the new killers they released in the last 2 years were alright on release day (except for Trickster maybe). There were weaker ones in the older roster. But i also think that most killers are fine right now as long as you're not playing in the top 5% tournament level (There are only few top 5% players in the pub matches so only because you're rank 1 doesn't mean you're top 5%. Those people rarely play pub matches.)

People need some time to get all the timings and tactics and stuff, Blight is a good example for that. He is considered the best killer after Nurse right now (thanks to Spirits bugs). I remember back then a lot of people said he is B tier at best and not fun to play.

Stop talking that logical sense. We're emotional around here!

  • It's obvious that the "new" player is heavily influenced in his tier list. Nurse is not oppresively strong until you hit red ranks. And even then , you would have to be a seriously good survivor to not get your face smashed in by other killers only to get your face smashed in by Nurse.

  • If I hold the box, will you come?

  • @AJStyIez said:

Or how about you just don’t use Pinhead until the problem is solved? Lol

Plays blatantly bugged Killer despite bugs being public

Wants Survivors to play accordingly as if it’s their fault you decide to run a bugged killer that’s caused hundreds of lobby crash

Hate to be that guy but yeah. Just don’t use him, or deal with the survivors treading with caution because they don’t want to lose points or time invested into a match which is pretty understandable

You're a dumb ass resurecting dead threads

If they uncancel his voice lines I will. Until then I am enjoying the music.

Hopefully they'll fix it soon and we can all enjoy the music.

  • If you find yourself in a position where the hunt is active, do not hook a survivor. If they get sacrificed there's a high chance that the game will prematurely end. Just slug them if you need to.

  • There's a server crash that can happen during a chain hunt towards end game. Why end game, it's not clear. But you can avoid it by solving the cube or if you're killer allowing survivors to solve the cube.

I don't know if the chain hunt is the all the way problem. It still crashed on me against Pinhead when there were only 2 survivors or less. I think twice when it crashed, there was no chain hunt. I had on Alert and it crashed when Chatterer was breaking a pallet. I've seen streamers crash when they were doing a basic attack. Something is overloading, if it is chain hunt related, it could be crashing before the hunt begins or its freshly over or "cycling".

All I know from when it's happened to me is it hard crashes during breaking animations or basic attack with two or less survivors. Sometimes there's a chain hunt, sometimes there isn't.

I haven't had a single crash today. Not one, and you know why. Cause I always let survivors get the box and solve it. Do you know why the crash always happens around 2 survivors, because at that point they're too worried about dying to try to solve the box.

When you try out a Killer for the first time the MMR will be around the same of all your other Killers. After a few games it will be adjusted.

You cannot start at 0 with a new Killer, this would just cause big problems.

It did cause problems, do you remember when the early MMR tests did just that, it was just massive smurfing with killers that you rarely played.

  • If you're high MMR even with good match making you're still going to be above an average of 2k. I think the difficulty is how can we determine if we are high rank, there's no indication to us as to how the SBMM has our skill set to.

  • @Jplanas98 said:

I've played about 4 or 5 matches now, and 3 of them were against red rank SWF. And in most of my games I've only managed to get 1 kill, so logically my MMR should be going down because I'm clearly losing my matches, but it seems no matter how good or poorly I play it's putting me against high rank players.

ranks are not grades, just because they're high grades does not make them good. That being said, it does seem that you're MMR is not yet properly set. It's really hard to determine if things are working properly because we can't see our own MMR or other individuals MMR.

  • @Hatty said:

So far my only crashes had been when somebody was trying to solve it and after everyone was in the ground after downing someone with the box to catch the last survivor so.. not sure what to get from this theory

Yeah, so if a survivor has a full golden halo, it will also crash. It usually crashes when a survivor is sacrificed during a chain hunt, but other things can trigger it too.

So to be clear, the server crashes when 1st there is a chain hunt/a survivor is holding the box and has a full yellow crown and then during the following circumstances. Sacrificing a survivor, kicking a generator, opening a door, completing a generator, escaping through hatch. I'm sure there's more, but the major part is that it always happens during a chain hunt or when 1 survivor has a full yellow crown.

  • @Neamy said:

Try hoarders and Franklin's, you see the survivor picking up the cube, then knock it out of their hands

Note that the server crashing is related to chain hunt being active. While chainhunt is on cooldown the server will not crash. So you may want to let them solve it honestly until they fix the server crash.

"Skill based matchmaking ratings are also separate for each Killer, meaning you’ll have tougher matches with the Killer you’re really good at, but easier matches when you’re trying out a new Killer for the first time."

If that's the case then that's okay. It's just not how they worded it in their Q&A. Seems to defeat the point of the whole thing imo.

They wrote that QA when that's how it worked. In the last MMR test they changed how it worked so that it overestimates your skill with a new killer rather than underestimate.

  • I think he's fun to play. Pretty punishing though.

  • The MMR initially overestimates your rank if it's data is sparce. That's a change they made in the last test. A few games where you lose and you'll be brought down to a more manageable level.

Well that's convenient because you don't need to verify anything. I used my eyes to see it wasn't active.

Plus I'm on console so not happening anyways

Yeah, I don't trust your eyes.

Its the second most questionable change I have ever seen as it nerfed solely pallet saves, number 1 belongs to the stun change of the year of the dog event

I have been on forums for almost 2 years and still never have seen anyone complain about being stunned from the same side of the pallet as a survivor

Yeah it seems like a strange change to me. It never seemed like a bug to me. Why would it matter what side of the pallet you're on as killer. If you're too close to the pallet and it drops it makes sense to me that you would get stunned.

  • If you're on PC use Windows + G and there's an option there to record the last 30 seconds. When the game crashes get a recording of what happened right before the crash. Without that I can't verify that the chain hunt wasn't active.

My game crashed 3 times and each time it was just in the middle of a chase. No specific correlation with chains or the box for me whatsoever.

Send me video of a crash where the chains are not active and the box is not hostage, thank you.

What caused your game to crash was when the first survivor was sacrificed. Do you not get points when a survivor is sacrificed? It definitely affects your emblem for sure.

  • Hey Thanks Storml0rd. I'm not sure what to make of that. I haven't had any post game server crashes. If you had a video of that, that'd be super interesting to review.

Honestly, not the hardest Adept I've gone for since Plague (that dishonor belongs to Deathslinger because I can't aim worth a damn with him). The hardest part was hoping the server didn't crash right at the end.

The map was the Game (which seems to be surprisingly good for him given the obstacles), which really helped with the Plaything totems, and the three times Deadlock went off gave me some decent info. Plus, I dropped down right on top of the hatch and chased Jill away from the door long enough for Endgame Collapse to get her (with a Chain Hunt active since I happened to spot the Box).

It really just takes learning when to use his chains, because they're NOT meant for chasing, but rather for slowing them down at windows and loops.

Hey, thanks. That's interesting that you got merciless with the chain hunt being active. That goes completely counter to what I had thought was causing the crash. That would suggest that the crash is not related to emblems.

  • @Mat_Sella said:

    https://streamable.com/da80fc

This time it happened right as the hook was going to be inputted.

Mat, do this for me. I want you to go out of your way to allow the survivors to get out of the chainhunt. Let them solve the cube, obviously if a survivor holds it hostage, nothing you can do. But I don't think the server crashes if the hunt is not active. If it does, send me that video please.

  • Try this luvcraft. Always, and I mean always let the survivors get the cube and solve it. You can teleport to the cube, but try to never let the chainhunt spawn. If you do that and the server still crashes, can you send me a video of that. I've yet to see video of any server crash where the chain hunt was not active.

  • Did the server crash?

  • @Storml0rd said:

    I got the victory and then the server disconnected before it registered. :{

Storml0rd, before the server disconnected was a chain hunt active or was the last survivor holding the cube?

  • @burntFuse said:

Well, the game where I got Adept (in The Game btw) I just slugged Nancy while she was Oblivious with the cube near the gate, and then shot a possessed chain downstairs to spot Leon still working on a gen.

The reason that I bring this up is that I think that the crashing of the server might be happening when you reach a certain emblem level in any of the categories while the chain hunt is active. However, if you were able to get merciless while the chain hunt is active that would be evidence against this theory, which is why I asked if you could remember.

  • The common threads that I've found is that it always happens during the chain hunt and it is always triggered by an event where you can earn bloodpoints. From the ones that I have video evidence for, opening an exit gate, breaking a destructible door, having a survivor die on hook, escaping through the hatch.

  • @burntFuse said:

Just got Adept. It really depends on the survivors. Almost had it the game before as well because I was up against a bunch of flashlight Fengs who were swarming me the entire match.

In the game that you received it. Towards the end of the game, was the chain hunt active or were the survivors able to solve the cube/ you teleported to the cube?

  • @Squirrel_Thicc said:

The crash isn't related to the box at all. It just happens randomly

I had people send me videos of when they crashed. I've only viewed 6 videos so far, but in each video, the chain hunt was active or the survivor had held the cube hostage and they had a personal chain hunt active. Then when that happens , the bug is triggered through a scoring event. Now it's not every scoring event, but I think it happens with a scoring event where the maximum bloodpoints is exceeded (but this is just a guess)

  • @Yankus said:

I got it but every other game has crashed so I guess I was super lucky.

Was it adept or a regular merciless victory?

  • Something that could also be it, maybe it's not bloodpoints, maybe it's related to emblems. That's so hard to pin down though because I never get emblems after the game, so it's hard to get evidence one way or the other.

  • @Mat_Sella said:

    https://streamable.com/6yvtyh

If you believe it helps then here you go

So your game crashed when the survivor was sacrificed. That lines up with my current theory that the crash is related to events where you earn bloodpoints. I can't tell from your video, but do you remember if the blood hunt was active before downing the last survivor?

  • I think that the server crash is related to bloodpoint events when the chain hunt is active. It's still an evolving theory and I think there's a bit more to it, but everything I've seen so far seems to suggest that the bug triggers when getting a bloodpoint event. I have a thread where it shows 3 different crashes. One from a survivor opening an exit gate, One from me breaking a door and one when a survivor jumps through hatch. Now obviously there are plenty of events that happened while bloodhunt was active that did not trigger a crash, why is that? That I don't know.

  • Deadlock seems to be pretty powerful. I was running it at first because I didn't have any other perks on pinhead but it has really grown on me. I haven't even used it with Pop yet and that seems like it could be really powerful.

  • Alright so from all of the cases that I've had, here's the patterns that I've been able to deduce. It seems to be related to scoring events. It always happens during an action that grants bloodpoints. Breaking Doors, escaping, opening the door. The action can be done by either killer or survivor. And I think it happens during a chain hunt or when someone is holding the box hostage, in which case they have a personal chain hunt. If you have videos that debunk this theory please post them.

Edit: This observation is not fool proof though. Because I and many others have had chain hunts that have not resulted in the game disconnecting, so we still need to determine why that is. Is it random, are there differences from when it disconnects and when it doesn't. This is still far from consistently reproducible.

  • We'll refresh this page when it's ready.

So, end game. I've caught the survivor to give them hatch, this is how it ends.

  • @KingFrost said:

Question: If you're playing as Pinhead, do you get a dc penalty? I ask because it's dced me twice as survivor and mercifully I have so far not gotten a penalty.

I haven't, but I've heard that others have.

  • Watch "DeadByDaylight 2021-09-07 18-40-59" on Streamable.

End Game: I'm chasing the survivor and practicing landing my shots, I break the door to grant access to the hatch and the game crashes.

  • @gemgames_86 said:

Mine have lasted more than 3 minutes but same as far as the DC. I only play survivor and every time the match ends early, it says the killer has DC'd. So far I've only seen it happen if it's Pinhead. However I have only played about 6 or 7 matches today. There doesn't seem to be any consistency with it either. Sometimes there's multiple gens remaining. Other times there's none. Sometimes 1 survivor remaining. Other times more. Seems to affect multiple maps if not all. It's really bizarre. I don't see any pattern to it. Bugs by Daylight I guess.

I've made a post where I'm hoping people will add video of their games when they crash.
