The next 2 killers
Note the phrasing "looking into", "I think", and "talking about", as well as mentioning that there's a shortlist with more than just those two killers on.
This wouldn't matter, except I know that some people will accuse them of being liars if other killers get changes implemented first.
-
How would that work, though? Survivors having contextual vaults is due to whether they're sprinting or not (and the angle they're coming at the vault from), so are you suggesting Legion be given a permanent sprint button...?
-
After seeing the monumental (and well deserved) amount of backlash BHVR got from even being tangentially related to NFTs, it's mind boggling that someone would suggest they actually make and sell some themselves.
-
For the record, it's worth remembering that those two weren't confirmed to be the next ones for changes- they were asked what killers they were looking at and answered with those two. If quicker, simpler changes to other killers get on their radar first, we'd probably see those before whatever they're planning for Legion and Ghosty.
If I could steer them towards one killer other than those two, though, it'd be Myers. He needs a little love.

I wouldn't say double calm.
Run calm with the one that reduces the cooldown of the blast, that way you get more chances.
Perks like Lethal Pursuer, Discordance, etc can tell you when multiple people are gathered together as well which helps.
That's how I did this- I only had the brown TR increase addon, and the purple cooldown addon, which combined with Distressing helped me bang this out first try even though I got rolled Red Forest.
Just spam the blast, and you're golden.
-
My understanding is that anyone who owns the Stranger Things DLC will still have the original description text, including calling them Demogorgon/Steve Harrington/Nancy Wheeler perks at the top. They were supposed to still have their original perk names, too, but there was some kind of bug regarding that which changed them over or something.
-
Now this is feedback that I agree with. Definitely something to suggest for the next event with a similar mechanic, I'd love to see something like that.
-
It wasn't particularly recently, but my favourite bit of BM of all time was a guy who was so mad that I beat him as Bubba on Badham that he left a comment on my Steam profile that says "You aren't good at the game, you just play Bubba, learn how to play the game".
Of note, I wasn't even proxy camping in that match, I was streaming for friends and thus trying to be as active as possible.
Slightly more recent than that was a Clown game on Red Forest, so I was having a horrible time. I down someone after the last generator pops, carry them to the basement... and this Laurie just. Stands there, shining her flashlight at the sky, letting me hit her twice and down her. Since I then had two people in the basement, I stuck around assuming that the other two would either leave or come in for a save... but they didn't, hovering around between the 99'd gate and me, as if expecting me to go that far out of my way to chase them- so the poor bastards on the hook end up progressing all the way to dead, and one of the two who died goes "come on man how was that fun for anyone" in the endgame as if I was the one forcing the game into a stalemate by not committing to a tactic lmao.
Bit of a lengthy explanation there, but it's always stuck with me.
-
You get given a code when you claim the freebie, and then you use that code in the in-game store, like a bloodpoints or charm code.
-
@Predated said:
Well, technically, Doctors Shock also fell under the catagory of powers that could block pallets with Bloodfavour before they required the healthstate.
Doctor and Clown are both killers who have a special attack that doesnt injure, since the special attacks can very easily lead to an injure. So they both do break the snowman, but since the snowman seems to be coded to grant the reward based on tanking a healthstate, it doesnt reward.
Also, I have yet to see a survivor actually gain distance from a snowman. The animation is quite slow and you cannot run untill after the animation is fully finished. There are some very niche situations where it will help them, but the same could be said for pumpkins, where survivors could gain haste to run quite far ahead.
My personal changes would be:
- let perks like fixated/self-aware and effect like haste be applied on the snowmen(I dont see any reason how this could go wrong, it would just look hilarious)
- give killers the ability to jump into a snowman too and become undetectable while doing so(imagine a t3 myers jumping out of a snowman that you thought was Dwight)
This would both give the killer an indication that someone is actually inside a snowman and not waste time smacking one just in case, while also giving an incentive on both sides to just have a little more fun.
I think you're right about why the snowmen don't grant the reward from those powers- maybe it's just too finnicky to code in an exception like that? I dunno, I'd still like to see that broken snowman give the reward all the same, if it's possible.
I'd be down for those changes- killers hopping into snowmen would be pretty hilarious lmao

I don't think it's that strong of a word since it grants a free protection hit and happens every game. It's like Mom but easier to activate
It's not like MoM at all since survivors don't get a speed boost and move extremely slowly while in the snowman, while being unable to perform any actions.
-
You know, I'm torn. I want to agree with the idea because it does sound fun and goofy, but I don't want to make it seem like I in any way agree with or align myself with the attitude in the post.
Fun idea, at least.
-
@ThatOneDemoPlayer said:
If everyone played this game more casually, I wouldn't mind the free hits from the snowmen, but as it currently stands, they need to reduce the attack cooldown or make them deal damage through the snowman
"Need" is an extremely strong word here, but the minor annoyance that comes from survivors trying to use the snowmen tactically (or more accurate, from the few times it actually works) could be remedied by reducing the attack cooldown. If survivors could be hit through snowmen they'd be far less incentivised to mess around with them, though, that's a bad call.
Like I said, if they do this again next year, that'd be a decent tweak.
-
Very fun event, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. So long as you're not playing like you're in a tournament and viewing everything through the lens of what advantages it'll give the person who uses it, the snowmen are delightfully silly and their goof-off potential is enormous.
-
I wouldn't say remove, but perhaps lessen- survivors shouldn't be worse off for hopping into the snowmen, that doesn't really encourage people to goof around with them, but a slightly lessened cooldown would probably help the current batch of complainers out a little.
-
It's not a great fix to the problem here- it'd just be a bandaid that opens up the possibility of even more broken builds from both sides.
-
It wouldn't be a catch-all fix to toxicity in this game, but there's simply no getting away from the fact that the toxicity in this game is mostly a community problem, not a dev problem- so something like this to encourage people to be a little more even-tempered and rewarding to their teammates isn't the worst idea in the world.
I've played with these kinds of systems before in other games, and you do see people just throwing commendations out willy-nilly as they're typically given some kind of meagre XP reward for doing so, but you do also see people rewarded with the right kind of commendation when they do actually deserve it. While it won't really do that much to discourage toxic behaviour, it does - in my experience - do a little bit more towards encouraging more positive behaviour, which is still something.
Ultimately: Not on its own, but as part of a careful and thorough suite of mechanics and changes to encourage better behaviour, absolutely.
-
Absolutely seconding this- the snowmen are hilarious and I'd love to see more interactive elements from either side for future holiday events.
-

Eh.
It's more that the event was just badly thought out.
Certain killers can negate snowmen without giving survivors cosmetics. Others get completely ruined by snowmen (Ghostface, Twins).
I do like how festive the maps look.
I do agree that powers like Doctor's shock should still let both parties get the cosmetics, though, that seems like an oversight.

Seconded.

Aren't you kind of taking this post too seriously? "If you don't like it, don't play". If you don't like reading opinions, don't.
Fair point. Still, that's kind of what the forum is for, no? Discussing opinions and such.
I did actually duck out of this until I was pinged again tho to be fair

"(Granted, there is some merit to being annoyed at survivors who are being sweaty with the snowmen, but even then, if you take a step back and stop going for the kills it can be some silly amusement.)"
That feels like a double standard to me. Why should only one side have to consider stepping back and not taking things seriously because the other side is attempting to weaponize a holiday gimmick?
They shouldn't. The survivors who are being sweaty with the snowmen also deserve the same advice: lighten up and goof off, stop taking this so seriously.
It's just that even if they don't, you can still follow that advice and approach this event with the goal of being playful with the snowmen, and if you don't, then the survivors can't follow suit.

Ah yes, the part of the community that doesn't take this game as casually should just rewire their brain and change their attitude on the fly because it's a Christmas event and people should play for fun.
That's not how it works, people will play however they want, and these snowmen are hindering the fun from the people (Killers) who play this game less casually due to their imbalance
You have no idea how sorely tempted I was just to respond to this with "Yes." because, like. Yeah.
Anyway, people can absolutely play how they want, I just think it's ridiculous to complain about how ill-suited the goofy casual holiday event is for competitive play. Like, yeah, of course it is, you're actively choosing not to approach this as the harmless lighthearted fun that it is, of course it's not going to hold up well.

I'm trying to defend anyone here, but telling someone who clearly plays killer to go for the cosmetics is beyond pointless.
Killers don't even get anything really interesting cosmetics wise so I can understand why this would just be upsetting in general.
Making the game marginally more frustrating with no real compensation other than frosty eyes is pretty grim considering the current state of the game.
Yes, its an event and people should be able to just have fun without getting hung up on wins and losses. That fun shouldn't constantly come at the expense of one side of the playerbase.
You keep denying that hitting the snowman is a free hit on the ground that don't get a sprint boost, but the killer did hit that person and does end up locked into an animation. We all know this is a game of time management where seconds make a different. It is disingenuous to sit there and act like strike cooldown doesn't make a difference.
At least, be honest even if you disagree with the person you're arguing with.
What I deny is that it's a free health state or a free hit, because it isn't either of those things. A more accurate description would be that it's a free protection hit, because the survivor who uses the snowman has about the same benefit as someone swooping in for a protection hit, which really isn't that big of a deal- maybe it feels pretty bad if you're playing competitively and sweating for some kills, but in a more casual approach it's just some silly fun.
As to the rest of your points, that brings me back around to the core problem here: If you really feel that the game is this unplayable and that you can't have any fun just goofing off or playing casually, go play something else. You're not entitled to the game catering to your approach all the time, it's not the end of the world if you look at the event and decide "nah I don't enjoy playing the game that way".
It's a casual event. If you don't want to play casually, that's fine, but don't whine about how the event's additions don't gel well with playing competitively.
(Granted, there is some merit to being annoyed at survivors who are being sweaty with the snowmen, but even then, if you take a step back and stop going for the kills it can be some silly amusement.)

Oh please. Enough with sugar coating everything. Its sickening.
Its not a "slight" advantage and you completely disregard valid arguments because you dont WANT to listen.
All you want is trying to tell people how they are supposed to play or feel about the game.
How is it not a slight advantage? They get to avoid being downed, sure, but they don't get a speed boost and they don't get the dash they'd get from Dead Hard, it at best buys them a reset if they're insanely lucky and get a snowman that's like, right next to a strong loop.
Which, again, is only a problem if you're approaching the goofy holiday event like you're trying your hardest to win, which I have no idea why you'd do if you're so convinced that the snowmen break that aspect of the game.
I'm not telling people how they're supposed to play or feel about the game, I'm reminding them that there is more than one way to play or feel about the game, and that this event is encouraging one that isn't playing sweaty. That's it. Stop putting words in my mouth.
-
My take on Grim Embrace is that it meets the bare minimum criteria to not be a bad perk, but I'd struggle to justify running it over other perks that serve similar functions.
In my opinion Grim Embrace is just okay, and works fine if you want to do the Artist's adept challenge or if you just haven't unlocked better perks yet, but if you've got access to everything it'll rarely make an appearance.

I can live with not playing it, but it is still a poorly-executed event to me because of how it disrupts the gameplay in a negative and uneven way.
That's a fair opinion, but it's no more valid than that of those who enjoy this event.

My criteria is "how much is the fun of the normal game impacted by this event?" I am all for goofy Christmas stuff on Christmas, but if I wouldn't have fun playing it under normal circumstances, I wouldn't suddenly have fun playing it as a limited-time event.
Then the event is not for you. That's fine! There's no lasting damage done here if you evaluate the event and go "meh, I'm not interested".
You're not entitled to the game holding your interest 24/7, it's totally fine if you just decide you don't want to play this.

That doesn't sound like a well-designed event to me, then.
I'm not sure what your criteria are, then! Any other game that does a seasonal event some people don't like would have the same answer, if you don't feel like playing this event then don't play it.
They get criticised for not doing enough, they get criticised for doing too much... there's no way for this game to win, is there?

Like the fools they are, they expected for players to approach the silly snowman event less seriously than they would a tournament.
Don't play seriously for two weeks. It'll do this whole community some good, frankly.

So you're now telling me how should I play the game too? First you tell us what's fun and what isn't and they you tell us we should play the game in a non serious manner because it's holidays (which probably mean a lot to you but I couldn't give a f)? Man, you're entitled AF.
I celebrate holidays with my family and friends, I don't want the game I enjoy go to sh*t "just because it's holiday so now the game is whatever". And yes, I play all the time at high MMR against twitchy 4man SWF, so no, it's not fun at all.
No, I'm telling you that the way you're playing the game isn't the only way to play, and the snowmen are designed around encouraging the other way of playing the game. It's not a flaw and it's not a slap in the face, it's a decision that leaves you with three options: Accept the slight difficulty increase, adapt to playing the game more casually, or take a break.
(For the record I actually don't personally celebrate anything around this time of year, but that's a minor point.)
The game has not gone to ######### and it's not "now whatever", it's just encouraging people to loosen up a little. That's it.

It's so sad to read how confidently you're wrong. If it was "funny" for you, good for you mate, but read the comments, it's not fun for everyone. And I've seen nobody justifying it, they just say "omg, why you complain", "omg, it's fun", "omg, if you don't like it play something else". Nobody is justifying why "they nailed it" (they haven't BTW, but I'll let you swim in your ignorance)
It seems you're missing the point somewhat, so let me try explaining it differently...
The point is that the people who are complaining about it are talking almost exclusively in hyper-serious, competitive, tryhard terms, talking about how they're spending extra time in chases because survivors get "a free hit" (which isn't true on the face of it, but moving on). Nobody complaining about this even acknowledges that it's for fun, they're just mad that they have something to compensate for when they're trying their hardest to win.
So, the solution to that ""problem"" is for them to stop taking the game so seriously during this event, because it is a fun and silly seasonal event thing. Surely people can approach the game a little less seriously for the holidays?

I just had a game as hag and they were entering snowmen left and right, I think I got a guy entering 2 times in the same chase. It was not FUN, it was FRUSTRATING, all this while gens kept flying by. Have you even played killer in this event? it feels like youre some sort of entitled survivor that wants to tell us what IS FUN and what isn't.
I play killer exclusively and have played against these snowmen. It's very funny watching survivors climb into snowmen and then crawl at a snail's pace while wearing one, that's the intended goal of the snowmen and they nail it.

Are you the new PR person for the Devs?
Stop apologizing for them adding this content.
The game isnt "slightly" more annoying, these Snowmen are an outright trolling tool for survivors and can be abused in all sorts of situations to give survivors a much higher chance of escaping.
The solution cant be "play something else" or "take a break".
Thats just silly reasoning. I shouldnt be forced to take a break because of a seasonal game mechanic that makes killer gameplay insufferable in some cases.
Criticising you does not mean I am sucking up to the devs.
Regarding the mechanics of the snowmen, there has to be a reason that survivors would want to hop into them so that the whole thing actually functions, and the minor benefit of dodging a hit without getting a speed boost or dash a la Dead Hard is a reasonable one. Are they a tool for survivors? Yes. Are they broken? No.
The solution isn't "play something else". There is no solution, you should consider playing something else because you are frustrated with the game. Or, if you don't want to play something else, stop taking the game so seriously during the events. You don't have to win every match, just go for the new cosmetics or try out silly builds or something.
-
Not the direction I thought this was going to go in lmao
Surely that's more fun than them being hyper efficient and sticking on gens? I'd rather survivors that play ballsy like that, it's more interesting to deal with.

You really dont get it do you?
These things are free hits and also free escapes in some situations, completely negating several perks and killer mechanics.
If you think thats "fun" think again.
They are indeed silly and anything but little.
I dont care about the cosmetic. So the price for the cosmetic is be trolled until the event is over?
Seriously i wonder who came up with the idea and gave it a green light to be released into the game.....
Good lord, you are taking this far too seriously. The absolute worst case scenario here is that the game is very slightly more annoying until the end of this very limited event, so if that's really insurmountable to you, just take a break until it's over.
So you're right, I don't get it. Seeing survivors hop into snowmen and start moving at a snail's pace is funny, and since they don't get a speed boost it's not a free hit, it's a much more minor extension than that.
@Myla said:

Speed boost or not that's still distance made if you're a competent Survivor there's still possibilities to save your exhaustion perk for a crucial moment in the game.
I am not tolerating a dumb snowman design by the developers on a Game where one killer mistake can potentially mean = your game is GG.
Stop with your complaining about anything BS. This is legitimate criticism.
Stop taking it so seriously. I can't fathom being mad at the jokey holiday event because you take the game so seriously that any even slight advantage the survivors can get from it is unacceptable.
If you're not gonna tolerate it, don't tolerate, go play something else until the event's over. This isn't legitimate criticism, it's being hyper-touchy to even perceived slights.
-
They don't get a speed boost, and you DO get a free cosmetic out of it.
This is a fun addition. Don't take it so seriously, it's just a silly little snowman disguise survivors can take and it's only gonna last for as long as this little event.
This community really will complain about anything...

I was also wondering if it was a timezone issue. I didn't log in at any point yesterday to get my 30k but I logged early afternoon today (nothing appeared) but I should have got the 30k BP. Then I logged in ~4PM then around ~5PM but I think the rift fragments were loaded into my account around those times. I'm in the UK so GMT timezone.
Me too- I think it might just be that BHVR has it dropping at a certain time on their end, which isn't exactly unique. I've had similar things going on for other games and services.
-
Leatherface isn't the problem, facecamping is the problem- any killer can do it, and any killer with an instadown can do it very effectively, as well as any ranged killer.
Of course, facecamping is also a very sticky and difficult problem to fix, which is probably why it's taken a while to fix.

I dont approach like I am going to 4k every match. I already understand why i lose when I do lose its just sometimes it feels like it didn't matter what I did it was a loss regardless. Which is fine just still feels poopy imo. To lose through no fault of your own or even the smallest mistake is crazy compared to how many chances the other side gets. And I totally get that as killer I am my whole team so I have less room for mistakes but there is legit like no wiggle room at high mmr.
Well, that's what I'm saying. If you approach every game with the intent to win, instead of the intent to further your understanding or to make something specific work, sometimes you're just going to feel bad when you lose. This goes for all games, but especially ones with wonky balance like DBD.
Also, I'm not quite sure how to say this without it potentially sounding rude so do please understand I'm not trying to be mean, but... it's very easy to assume that you're at high MMR because you're losing a lot, but it's equally as possible that you're just doing a lot more wrong when you play killers you're less adept with at a far more moderate/medium MMR. I'd caution against ever falling into the trap of assuming you had no options- it's actually quite rare to get a genuinely unwinnable match due to factors outside of your control, there's almost always something you could've done.
-
So, first, the idea that you're going against SWF Team 6 who are on point and playing perfectly and exchanging precise information very often is a little silly. Most of the time it's just a generally good and competent group of survivors who may not even be on comms at all, and it's absolutely winnable in those scenarios.
As for what you do, there's the aforementioned analysing your own games to see what you did wrong (which there will always be something no matter who you are, you'd have to be a robot to play perfectly), and there's also learning how best to capitalise on the mistakes that your opponents will make too. Aside from that, though, the big thing you should start doing is that you should start pinning your enjoyment on something other than a win. Learn how to play that specific map, those specific tiles, get a better measure of control over your killer, learn the good spots for them and the bad spots for them, take each game as a learning experience.
Heck, maybe you only want to make a weird gimmick build work and your "win condition" is just getting any value out of it, even if you don't get any kills.
You aren't going to win every match, and since the current state of the game is moderately tilted towards the survivor, that's all the more potent right now. Don't approach it like you're gunning to get a 4k every match because that's just going to make you more frustrated.
-
I've noticed some weird issues surrounding getting my bonuses, too. I wonder if it's something to do with timezone, and I'm getting them at weird times I wouldn't expect?

I completely forgot those perks are generic perks now, that definitely makes this a little easier.
-
Merciless Victory is a result that only Killers can get, so it's definitely for Killers. It replaces Demo's Adept, if I recall correctly.
I've not put that much thought into it, but my gut reaction would be to use Sloppy Butcher, Whispers, and Thrill of the Hunt myself. Sloppy to get some slowdown, Thrill to protect against boon totems and help Sloppy stay in play for longer, and Whispers because it's the better general-purpose tracking tool.
Depends on what killer you're running, though.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. It was my favourite map for a long while, and I've always loved the way it played.
I hope they reskin the layout, maybe make it Trickster's map. Theme it after the studio his bandmates died in, perhaps...
-
I'll toss my two cents in here, though it somewhat echoes some people here- Deep Wounds isn't really a lethality tool, you're not supposed to get downs out of it anywhere that it pops up. Legion isn't supposed to get downs by hitting in Feral Frenzy, Deathslinger isn't meant to get downs from it, Borrowed Time isn't even really meant to give you the threat of being downed either. What it is intended for is to slow down the game by forcing survivors to Mend instead of doing anything else- it's like Pig's RBTs, they're not intended for you to reliably get kills with them, they're designed to reliably slow down the game while survivors search boxes, and that's kind of why they're not good right now; they aren't reliable slowdown right now, they're wildly inconsistent.
I wouldn't say that Legion doesn't achieve the intended goal, though. They are very adept at forcing survivors to Mend, their problem is more that they are severely punished with fatigues and cooldowns so capitalising on that minor slowdown is pretty hard, as well as having basically nothing in their kit that actually does help with lethality- even Deathslinger can down, even though Deep Wounds is a part of his kit.
-
So, here's the thing about boon totems and why a fair few people defend them conceptually, while saying they need tweaking.
Take CoH out of the equation. You load into the game and the only change is that Circle Of Healing is no longer in the game, everything else is unchanged. Are boons still OP? You've got a relatively decent stealth perk with a limited radius and time investment, and a pretty laughably bad Unbreakable clone that also only works in a limited radius that the killer has to not be aware of to get any value from. I don't think those are busted, even with the issues that still linger in the game- things like multiple-story maps and such.
Boons aren't broken. Circle of Healing is broken. That's the thing that needs to be changed, not the perk mechanic itself- or at least, when you change the mechanic, it should be with a much lighter touch than the sledgehammer that CoH needs.

No option for truly representing my opinion so I picked the closest and decided to comment- the MMR system was a good idea and has a perfectly serviceable base, it just needs a few slight tweaks and some balance changes to the rest of the game, and it'll be infinitely better than the mess of the old system.
