If the devs are only adding the character because they want to pander to a certain group or be accepted by the 'woke' culture, that makes them sheep. If they want to add a character because they created a neat story line, then be my guest.
We don't know what is their reasoning. We can only speculate.

Theres no problem with lgbtq characters. Hell i would argue that a select minority of the playerbase even cares about it. I would also argue that if they just put a gay character in the game, hardly anyone would have said a thing.
When they created the nurse or legion, there wasnt an announcement like hey look at us! We created a relationship to tell a story to flesh out and make the character interesting.
Want a gay character make a gay character. Why throw a billboard up? Theres no point except to pander to the 'woke' crowd.
Again, i don't care what they want to do as i could care less what people do with their own bodies. I just love this game and don't want to fail due to the all too common, 'Get woke, go broke' curse.
Because throwing the billboard up gives exposure to a cause this is all about. If people were widely accepted, there wouldn't be the need for pride months and other movements concerning other minorities. Every year this same debate goes over and over. It would be best to things to get to a point where people wouldn't so strongly oppose these kind of things. It would be best that movements wouldn't be needed. It is tiring for everyone involved.

As long as they keep it low key and naturally flow without affecting anything I really won't care
It doesn't affect you in anyway even if they made a big announcement in all caps on twitter saying: DWIGHT IS NOW GAY! LORE HAS BEEN CHANGED ACCORDINGLY!
You still have the same perks, same items, same addons, same gameplay as you have now.

Pandering? Straight people don't give an f about sexuality that's why it's annoying when all this pc stuff is dumped on us.
You really seem to be all heated about thing you don't give a f about. Why is it annoying? I can't get my head around why making some character gay or bi or anything else annoys you so much.

I'll believe that they support minorities when I see an Indigenous Person as a Survivor in their game. IPs are notoriously discriminated against in Canada and since BHVR is based in Canada, that would show more support for diversity than supporting lgbtq+ during pride month.
For reference on the topic, particularly the Indigenous Rights section:
https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2020/country-chapters/canada
All in my opinion of course.
You make a good point. Thanks for including reference. I don't know how things are in Canada. I just tried to say we can't know for sure if it is for PR or if BHVR took a step towards supporting minorities. It is much more likely to be for PR but I hope it isnt.

I'm not against this and Im not being "Defensive" i am being worried because as you said "it's good PR" if they cared that much (community or not) they would have been doing such a thing beforehand and not now after 3 years.
and as you said "Adding diversity in game is not shoving anything in peoples throat" that can also be said for heterosexuality based arguments, I've seen on Facebook this first hand about "You are shoving your heterosexuality down our throats." when I never seen the original concepts of the lore ever being that detailed.
Like I said, it most likely is a PR stunt but it doesn't take away the fact it could help the movement around the cause. It also could be that they actually support minorities, even if it took them 3 years. Opinions can and do change over time.
Heterosexuality has been forced on people for a long time and it still is an ongoing problem. That is the reason why saying "don't shove it down our throats" hurts people who doesn't fit the straight norm. Especially them who found out their "odd" orientation at young age.
Lore is lore. It can be rewritten, you can always add more to it, take away from it, whatever the writers feel like. Not accepting diversity just because lore hasn't been detailed doesn't really sound a strong argument.

I care because LGBT shouldn't be a promotional concept for things that don't determine the game itself.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1346455#Comment_1346455
The minor backgrounds for the characters were fine enough to be vague and to have fans explore.
Games, movies, media in general gives great exposure to problem in modern society, which is accepting people for what they are. Yes, BHVR most likely does this for good PR but that doesn't take away the good it can bring. People have been suffering for not being "normal" and still suffer to this day. Accepting anything else than straight sexuality is still for some reason really big issue to many. Even in these threads the usual response is "I don't care but don't shove it down my throat.". These minorities that suffer need to have their voice heard, that is why there is active movements around the cause. Adding diversity in game is not shoving anything in peoples throats, it literally is adding diversity. People like to feel related to characters they play. Even if it's a horror game and I can understand that. It doesn't take away anything from anyone. Why is it such a big deal? If you support people being themselves and support their sexuality, you wouldn't get all defensive.

Im just gonna say this real quick camping is poor game strategy and should not be rewarded as much as it is, a killer could get more then 5,000 bp for camping everyone and that is unfair, just sit and let other survivors do gens? Really? So you depip while they don’t, while everyone else gets to escape you have to suffer not getting the chance to do a thing, the half hour wait for that match and you just get to sit there on a hook and die and not gain anything from that, it ruins the games experience for the survivor not so much the killer, the killers still gain from camping while the survivor whose being face camped Gets nothing, say you’re new to the game and the first reaction you get is sitting on the hook with the killer in your face, that’s not fun in fact if my first match was a face camping killer and the pattern repeated itself multiple times than it should, then I would just delete the game because what’s the point of playing a game where you get to sit and do nothing, you can’t actually play the game that you paid for, honestly there was less camping 3 years ago I’ve played this game for that long and there’s been more campers than ever, honestly if camping should be allowed than just have an algorithm that sets up dcing survivors with face campers so survivors who actually wanna play the game can play with a killer who won’t ruin their experience
Maybe if you people would actually play on killer side too those wait times would be shorter. And stop talking like facecamps happens every match, it doesn't. I haven't been facecamped or proxycamped once today and I've played for 6 or so hours.
-
My experience with Freddy isn't that bad except matches tend to be way longer than against other killers. But then again, matchmaking hasn't put me up against anything higher than green rank killer yet.

DBD is not a game I'd recommend for relieving stress, and I think people misconstrued escape = stress relief, lol. It's good for making you forget about your surroundings temporarily, but yeah this game probably isn't good for someone in your shoes.
Stardew Valley, Don't Starve Together, 100% Orange Juice, Sniper Elite -- these are good destressors. I hope you feel better man and find something that takes your mind off things.
I agree with you on this one. If I wanted to relieve stress by playing I have games like Rocket League, Borderlands and Destiny 2.

Man, rank can be so frustrating. I was determined to get to rank 1 at least once before they change things over to the new MMR, and now that I have? I'm glad I don't have to care anymore, lol. I'm just an achievement hunter. I do wonder what they'll do with those achievements after the change, since I haven't even gotten to rank 10 on killer. 😆
But yeah fun is everything in a game. If you're not having it, what's the point?
I also have hunted achievements in WoW back in the day. It was a fun to because the game was pretty much just preparing for weekly raids with guild and doing dailies.

I completely agree that prioritizing fun over rank is the best way to tackle a PvP game, but that's of course assuming the matches are fairly balanced. With DBD you could easily have an experienced rank 1 killer or survivor get reset all the way back to 20 should they not play for awhile, thus putting them into games with less experienced players. It's why this game is a nightmare for newer players.
For me it wasn't healthy option to grind for highest faceit rank. It might work as motivation booster to many but for me it meant burnout. Some people live for grinding the shiniest ranks/titles/achievements, some play for fun. I try more to play for fun and ranks are pretty much meaningless but that does not mean I'm not competitive spirit and sometimes try my hardest to win.
Yeah I've been having a rought time as a new player. I mostly play killer and matchmaking really does love to put me against people that are in another dimension in terms of skill and knowledge.
-
@cheetocultleader said:
In every multiplayer game I play for long periods of time, burn out is a problem. Of all the solutions I've seen, taking a break tends to be the one to work best. If you like a game enough, you'll eventually miss it and it'll be fun again. I've tried personally forcing myself to play things, but that just exasperates it.
This happened to me with CSGO. 4 years nonstop playing and rank meant everything. Got burnout, didn't play for a year, started playing again and it is fun again. Also stopping caring about rank took a lot of stress off.

@chenais said:
In dbd, killers have multiple strategies: they can mindgame or they can just camp and tunnel. Camping and tunneling are really unfun and there is no good argument for defending them. If your argument is "gens" or "its still possible to escape as a tunneled dude" or "killers have to deal with unfair stuff, to", then you better find something else, since I am gonna destroy all of these arguments in this post.
First of all, I need to explain why they are so bad. Camping and tunneling someone pretty much removes any chance of that person escaping.
"Yes but people can do gens, and then its a 2 man escape, which is balanced since 2k is what the balance of this game should be around". Yea, you are right, camping is balanced because of that. But there is another question here: the fun factor. If a game is not fun, then balance does not matter, people will not play it. Here is why it is unfun: first, if you are one of the 2 camped or tunneled survivors, you have pretty much no chance at escaping, which does not feel good. If you are one of the 2 people doing gens, then what fun is this? You are skipping the most fun and interactive part of the game, which is getting chased, to do the boring task of holding m1. So none of the survivors have fun, and fun is more important than balance, since it is what makes people play a game.
Then, we have the "it is possible to escape even while being camped or tunneled". Yes, I agree, it is possible to escape such a situation. However, you are at a massive disadvantage if this is the case. It does not feel ok at all to lose because of a big disadvantage that you do not have any control on. Its like saying "4 man swf it is still possible to win".
Finally, we have the "yea but killers have to deal with unfair stuff, tho". I am gonna reapply your logic so that you can understand that it is not that good. Imagine this scenario: they are 2 countries at war. Country 1 kills innocent people in country 2, so country 2 justifies killing innocent people from country 1 by saying that country 2 did the same. Now, I get that there is a difference between playing unfairly in dbd and killing real people, but this is the exact same argument, just on a much smaller scale.
So hopefully people start realizing that camping and tunneling are not fun. Hopefully they are fixed soon enough.
Have a nice day.
PvP game, fun is subjective. Both sides are free to bring what they want to matches and play how they want. If that isn't okay to you there is always other games you can play.

Completely stopping a player from playing the game is a really antimate way of playing; toxic.
It's a PvP game. 4 survivors vs 1 killer. It isn't toxic. Or do you think every person is toxic in any PvP game when they don't play like you would want them to? Or just DBD?
-
You searched where? Just by putting matchmaking in search box gives you several threads to go through about how bad matchmaking is at the moment and most of low ranked and new players (I am one of them) agree with you because they are the ones it hurts the most. There is new MMR based matchmaking coming up in near future. I've seen claims it is coming out this month but I haven't seen any verification for this.

Blah blah. Yada yada yada the list goes on. You guys whined so much they gave you a whole update. So lets not even go there
You blame killers and call them trash because they didn't play the way YOU wanted. This was about you and what you have said in this thread. And I stand my ground on this. You cannot blame the killer because killer is playing against you, it is solely survivors fault.

It doesnt matter. It is against the rules to help the killer. Period. You can try to justify it any you want. And people always say I'm hiding in the locker cause they saw me go into a locker one time meanwhile I'll be the one with the most BPs. How would you know what i was doing he entire game if youre playing? Exactly. I said what i said. Youre trash. You didnt earn that hook. I play killer on a TOUCHPAD. If I can get 4k easily without needing a survivor to help then you should be able to. Also never said killer was always wrong. Ive written posts about both.
It is against the rules to help the killer implies survivor is the bad guy here. But sure call me and other killers trash who doesn't play like you want. Killers should obey and be practically NPCs. I got it.

I'll add you to my "doesn't easily comprehend list" cause that's not what I said. Pay attention. What I said was as a killer IF you take advantage of toxic survivors actions like sandbagging other survivors then you're trash. That's a fact. Straight up. It's not hard to get kills or hooks. So why encourage that behavior? You guys cry when you get looped lol but it's okay to basically cheat at the game?
How can killer know for sure that it isn't just swf sandbagging each other fun? Should I check profiles while in lobby before every match to see if they are swf or not? How can killer know for sure if they are pointing out the locker because that person didn't do anything else except hide and they want him gone from the game? Why the killer is always the bad guy?
-
@Bunnie said:
I'm sorry but if there is a survivor who is clearly toxic and pointing out other survivors and you the killer take advantage of that you're trash and you should just uninstall. Yall act like crackheads looking for their next hit. It's just a kill. Relax you'll get it. Running around taking advantage of a crap survivor sandbagging others is just ridiculous. Ruins the entire game. Some of us actually want to play and work gens and hide and sneak around and get chased but someone always has to come ruin the integrity of the game and F it up for everyone. I hate that I'm rank 5. Seriously. Playing with some of yall is such a buzzkill sometimes. To be a red rank killer and do that is such a fail. But some of yall will lose your heads just cause we play with friends. Play a game with you friend?! No F-in way no fair. Survivor giving away other survivors No problem. No biggie. EZ. 🙄
I'll add this to my list "stuff that survivors do but it still is somehow killers fault".

CSGO has been one of the most popular esports titles for some time. It is f2p, and even before that you could buy it for just few bucks. It is very well made game where personal skill really does matter. I have played CS for 5 years and I just reached 4000 hours and still play it. There isn't that many games where you learn more and more the more you play and where you really need to work for it to get the top ranks. I still learn something new after too many hours by watching pro matches, fpl streams and by playing. It's like a drug tbh.
-
Cheers to trusted members!
-
You can't balance game only around experienced and top players because DBD isn't hardcore PvP game. You need to consider also the lower side of the skill spectrum. But making cater new players too much isn't healthy either. Just like Blizzard did with WoW, it can pretty much destroy a game. WoW still has pretty healthy player base but making it too easy has made a significant drop in players (also some element were added that made the game quite unbearable).

With the current situation of lack of killers, survivor ranks mean very little imo. I'm already 4 ranks ahead as survivor with much less playtime than killer. Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that. I’m now too suck at playing as a killer. True that I gotta play more and more to get better so that maybe someday I can defeat top ranked survivors. To think positive probably this is good situation to go on with professionals so that I can get trained. Provocative actions by them irritate me but i think i was too cared about points and ranking. Will chase and chase til one day I get better.
I honestly was so tilted when I started playing this game and constantly being against reds and purples as noob killer. I still am sometimes but when I actually beat greens and purples and occasionally reds, it made me realize all those unfair matches made me a better killer. So just try to hang on, it isn't fun but it will make you better.
-
I am in the same boat with you and trust me, you get better the more you play. When they are way out of your league, just practice chasing them. That is what I've been doing. Just forget about pressuring gens and winning and just chase them. I've had pretty good success against greens and purples and even some reds now. I still do get tilted in most of the matches because matchmaking is far from fair. Also playing on survivor side helps because you get to know how looping works on the other side of the chase.
