  • You can't say "Michael Scott". For the longest time you couldn't say a lot of character names like "Myers" or "Jake". I have no idea what went through their heads when they implemented the system.

  • Idk It's been alright for me. No games so far have been destruction on either side. It's usually ended up in 1/2/3 kills but never 0 or 4.

  • I don't think it lasts longer, it just gives you a penalty faster. When you DC'd once it wouldn't give you a penalty but now it does even on your first time.

I never understood the argument that people don't like getting tunneled. Like, if you aren't being chased by the killer, you get to hold m1 on something. The chase is the fun part of the game. I'm glad if i get tunneled, means i pissed them off enough to chase me out of the game and i get to play the best part of the game.

Well what happens in most tunneling scenarios is that the killer just doesn't let you move very far from the hook. If you go down in an area with no resources the killer can guarantee you to stay there forever. You can't just say "why are you mad at being tunneled? Just loop the killer" when there is literally no way to do that.

What? No I'm saying your SBMM score should be visible so you were the one who was not understanding.

Oh you mean they should show the SBMM rank? Yeah I agree with that, it's stupid they aren't. I thought you were talking about how they hid the old ranks because that went invisible today.

  • @gilgamer said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2421804#Comment_2421804

Yes I know the current system is bad but that has nothing to do with this new system. If its accurate thats all the more reason it should be shown so you know if you are actually getting paired with people your level. Imagine if in csgo a silver was placed with a global elite.

Dude you are not understanding what I'm saying. If you say the old system is bad then why are you still using it to judge matchmaking? You just said the old system was bad but you want them to show the old color ranks to judge how well SBMM is working? They are completely separate things, the old ranks literally mean nothing, that's why they hid them.

  • @gilgamer said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2421762#Comment_2421762

Okay then it being invisible only means you can't see when you are getting matched up with people way better or worse and just have to assume. If it was matching you up with people your score and the matches went well then it being visible would only be a good thing since they'd be able to show how well their system works. It being invisible only tells me they have no confidence in their own product.

No... The point of SBMM is that the old color system is bad and doesn't actually represent skill. It doesn't matter if a purple or green gets matched with a red rank because it means that they are similar in skill. The old color system is really bad, I remember the first test I was matching with brown rank survivors who were somehow amazing at the game.

  • It's because people were basing their opinions on SBMM on the old ranks which are completely separate and not related at all. People were basically saying "I'm a green rank killer, why am I getting purple/red ranks survivors" when purple/red ranks survivors didn't even exist.

Skill Based Matchmaking (SBMM) has been enabled for testing on live servers. This test is expected to end August 16, but may be cut short if any issues arise.

    What is SBMM?

SBMM is a new type of matchmaking that uses a hidden skill rating instead of ranks to create fairer matches. This rating increases when you do well and decreases when you do poorly.

    What advantages does SBMM have?

The way ratings are calculated are much more accurate to a player’s skill level than ranks. While there is some correlation between rank and skill, time played in a month is the biggest factor in the old rank system.

Skill based matchmaking ratings are also separate for each Killer, meaning you’ll have tougher matches with the Killer you’re really good at, but easier matches when you’re trying out a new Killer for the first time.

What is different from the last test?

There’s a bunch of differences, so we’ll keep it short:

    • We’re using several months of data to calculate your ratings rather than a few weeks
    • We’ve made changes to how your rating is calculated when playing a Killer for the first time
    • Fixed some bugs with the system (notably, The Hillbilly)

In the last test, we tried the system with only a few weeks of data. This meant the system was treating most players like they were new if they played a Killer that they hadn’t played in the last few weeks. This time around, it should feel much more like you’d expect.

But the biggest thing you’ll probably notice is that ranks will be hidden after a match. This is because they are not being used for matchmaking at this time.

    What will happen to ranks?

During the test, nothing! Your rank will behave exactly the same as normal, it just won’t be shown after the match. Once the test is over, they’ll be used for matchmaking again and will appear after matches.

In the future, once we’ve officially changed to SBMM, ranks will remain as a monthly progression system. Each month, your rank will reset to 20, and you’ll earn Bloodpoints based on how much you’ve ranked up. Both Killer and Survivor have their own rewards, so you can earn double the points by ranking up both sides.

What’s will happen during rank reset?

During the test: Your rank will decrease slightly like it always does, but your SBMM rating will not change.

When the system goes live permanently someday, your rating will still not change, but your rank will reset all the way back to 20. Rank will instead be used to earn monthly rewards based on how much you were able to rank up in that month. Each role has its own rewards, so you’ll be able to get double the rewards by playing both sides.

    What are we looking for?

We’re looking to see the overall quality of matches, and whether or not the system is able to accurately predict the outcome of a match. Ratings get more accurate as the test goes on, but if you’re getting totally one-sided matches a few days in, please let us know!

Read this. They're hiding old ranks because they're using an entirely new ranking system right now.

  • When I play dbd I just want the game to be as fair as possible. It really sucks when a new team is going against a god killer and vice versa. As a survivor I want my teammates to be as good as I am and as a killer I want to have a fair match against survivors. Saying "the game should be casual so it's ok if it's unfair" is not a good reason for the game to be unfair.

  • Honestly I'm having really mixed feelings on Pinhead... The pin in the board is so obvious they would never give it away like that. This happened with the bees on the discord. They might just be throwing us off the scent by giving a really obvious hint.

  • I think it's a really good idea. The past few tests everybody complained how they were getting survivors of different ranks. That's literally the point of MMR lol it's supposed to be a different matchmaking system if people were complaining about not getting red ranks then they could just stay with the old system which everyone agrees sucks.

  • It's funny to me. I don't really care that much because they likely wouldn't have won anyway.

  • It's punished by a DC penalty. You are not supposed to disconnect anyway and the devs implemented a system to stop it. How much it does stop DCing is debatable but it's still there.

No, but a lot of people who make comments like this are one sided. So I decided to point out the other side.

Oh. So you were assuming that I'm one sided and don't have anything bad to say about survivors?

  • @ilovedbd123 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2412907#Comment_2412907

And that's a survivor assuming something.

    Pot calling kettle black much.

However, killers getting salty is nothing new, both roles get salty. Some newer/less experienced/bad killers instantly assume swf. However if I'm against a good team that seems co-ordinated I will ask, not just assume.

Did I say that survivors don't assume anything?

  • Idk cuz killers like to assume things.

  • I do that when I get like 10 games of just console players in a row and I get really frustrated.

  • Dude I've been playing the game for 3 years and have only gone against legitimate hackers like maybe 3 times. I can guarantee you don't against 1 - 2 cheaters per week.

What do you mean hacking in skins or addons? How would you even know that?

  • Yeah I feel like they made it harder to pip recently. I can still get rank 1 fairly easily it just takes me a lot longer now. Basically if I make 1 mistake in a game it won't pip me in red ranks.

  • A good enough Starstruck + Infectious Nurse is basically impossible to get away from.

  • @Power_Guy said:

And they DO detect cheats with the anticheat. Jesus. Recording evidence to send in HELPS them. It's not one or the other.

You're complaint is basically 'The police can ticket speeders, but HOW DARE THEY put up speed limit signs!' 🤦‍♂️

No it doesn't detect cheaters if you know how to get around it. I've seen killers moving at the speed of sound and flying around without getting caught. I remember going on Minecraft servers and you can get kicked for flying. The game doesn't even know if you're moving too fast or flying. It just doesn't. If it did there would be no evidence of flying Ghost Faces.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2410191#Comment_2410191

How would they 'see the games'? Live? With this many people?

Or again; recorded and downloaded each and every time someone files a report? Imagine the petabyes of storage needed on probably a monthly basis for that.

And 'recording a game for playback' is an engine-specific thing. Hence why Source games can do it; it's a Source Engine thing. It's not some magical option the devs did not check when making DbD.

I know it's not a magic thing every dev can do. But every competitive game as popular as dbd has ways of detecting cheats other than "record your own gameplay, send it to us, and we'll get back to you in 1 year." Of course they don't have to do that and they can keep hackers around but that's their problem at that point.

  • @Power_Guy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2410159#Comment_2410159

    For what? Hacking?

What are they supposed to do; take people's word for it? It's not like they have the internet speed and hard drive space and manpower to record every match every player is having across every console, then annotate these videos so they can find them again in the event someone claim a hacker was in one.

The only conceivable way to get video proof is to ask the player base to make it. Anything else is not really possible.

No they should be able to see the games and have ways of detecting certain stats like how fast someone moves. Even the most basic of anti-cheats can detect when someone is moving too fast. BHVR has no idea what happens in any of their games and that's really bad.

Call of Duty in like 2008 let you go back into previous games and view them any way you want. At least BHVR should have that power.

  • The fact that you need to include video evidence is a bit ridiculous. Probably only like 1% of the population record all of their games and even then I've heard years going by with devs actually looking at the video evidence.

  • Wow some actual rare cosmetics?? That's horrible, why would they do such a thing?

  • The reason killers are bigger than survivors is for looping purposes. Survivors can cut corners faster than killers can. It would also be really weird to have Leon be the size of Trapper.

  • @Trickstaaaaa said:

Hmm... I wonder how killer only or mains will feel about having to find survivor totems. Anyway assuming they do get implemented, it's going to give killers another objective to complete. Not survivors, that is assuming it's the same as killer totems.

That's not true. As a survivor you might have to cleanse a specific totem to get your effect. That seems more likely because how would a killer even interact with totems when they need to chase people and pressure gens? Survivors have chances to hide in foliage and find them.

  • I mean yeah it sucks that she made the game harder for 3 other survivors but you really can't stop it. If someone doesn't like Doctor and decides to forfeit the game then they have the right to do that. You will never be able to force somebody to keep playing or enjoying a game, they will quit no matter what.

  • I'm not changing my main but I'm changing my main outfit. The outfit I used with Ace looks so bad now I had to buy new cosmetics.

Lithe extends chases. Smash Hit outright ends them for the most part because you shouldn't chase after that survivor anymore (unless you're playing as a killer who can)

What if you want to stay by the pallet because it's really safe? That happens all the time to me and Smash Hit would do nothing. Lithe gives you way more opportunities with windows and more control about when you want to use it. Smash Hit will force you to use it if you want it or not.

  • Nah. Just use Lithe and dumb tech the killer every time because even if you're not by a pallet you can still get use out of Lithe.

Smash Hit is a pretty terrible perk imo.

  • @Apollos said:

Because it's the endgame and it's a fight to the death at that point. One survivor alone isn't enough to best the killer.

If the hatch didn't spawn, it would be putting the last survivor into a situation they would have no hope winning. You might as well end the match and say the killer got them.

By adding the hatch, it evens the playing field and gives the survivor either the hope to find the hatch or time to open the gate while killer searches for it. It's not a guaranteed kill or a guaranteed escape.

Plus, it's EGC so honestly being upset at any play tactic introduced there is pointless.

I mean that's what tournaments do and what competitive players typically play like. They just ignore the hatch as a mechanic altogether because it's unfair. It's pure luck most of the time and that's not really fair. It's dbd not a roll of the dice like Mario Party.

  • Yeah I agree with this. The hatch is a really dumb mechanic in general. Why should the last survivor be able to escape for free anyway?

  • I noticed no difference. I got almost no DCs when the penalty was gone.

  • @pseudechis said:

Why does 3x slow down not make you any good if you win?

it’s such a BS statement to make, if people play it, just play around it.

Not running slowdown perks doesn’t make someone better at the game, it just makes for different style of play.

A different style of play? Yeah, a style that makes the game as unfair in your favor as possible.

  • @Kirkylad said:

They don't take notice to all the killers dcing or just giving up when gens fly so why should they.

Because the kill rates contradict that. The average red rank killer destroys the average survivor. Also killers rarely DC at all.

  • @Crowman said:

I hope the devs don't act based on people d/cing. You know people are just going to d/c en masse to get things nerfed for no good reason.

That doesn't really happen. I can't recall any mass DC campaign that was for no reason. And even then a lot of people DC against Spirit but in my experience not as much as current Trickster.

  • @Altarf said:

I don't really think Trickster's comparable to old Legion. Old Legion could down you anywhere with zero effort or way to escape, Trickster is hard countered by walls and can run out of ammo quickly and breaking line of sight shuts down his power.

It's mainly a matter of people not knowing how to loop him - being mindful of your position like with Bubba and avoiding low wall loops and open areas. Hump those walled tiles.

(Comment posted early, in case you saw the unfinished one)

I agree when he doesn't have the insane add-on combo. However if he runs Edge of Revival and Cut Thru U you can literally down a survivor from healthy in 8 knives. That isn't a matter of knowing how to loop, you will die no matter what and very quickly.

  • I'd be happy not having the latest update. Old models and old Trickster.

  • He's still bad.

Are you seriously comparing RPD with the Coal Tower? Seriously?

Coal Tower was like the first dbd map ever. I'm comparing RPD to other indoor maps like The Game, Hawkins, and Lery's.

  • Um... Just like with every other dbd map you have to learn it...

  • It's because the game would be banned in a lot of countries if it were to show extremely graphic content like dismemberment.

  • Yeah I just checked the rift and I felt the exact same thing. Honestly most of the stuff in the premium track is pretty bad or meh. I think I'm going to actually stay in the free track this time because the stuff they offer is actually really good. The free track is full of paid cosmetics that I already own so yeah I feel pretty bad about wasting money. I don't know if I can trust buying cosmetics again if they're just going to give them for free a couple months later.

  • I feel like that would help with the "gen rush" that killers hate so much while still keeping it balanced. It would be really weird as an actual mechanic but maybe a perk or something could do that.

  • @Jill_Main said:

Maybe? Our dear queen Maria isn't in the game yet, she would make a great legendary skin.
