You want survivors to just stand in one place and die?

Just another thing unrelated to the post: survivors should really use Alert more. It's such a powerful aura reading perk and I barely see people running it. Unless the killer is a Nurse chances are he'll be kicking gens/pallets/breakable walls on a good portion of the match. It's almost as good as OoO on telling you where the killer is and it also helps in chases.
I have used alert. It's really good

I understand that from an outside perspective they might not have any downsides but looking at one side of the picture isn't how you see the whole thing sometimes the best way to understand something is to take a step back and take in the big picture
Ok after looking at the other responses I think I'm convinced and I might have been looking at things from one side and not looking at the whole picture.
Thank you for informing me.

So what that the addons are easy to use
are we supposed to sudden jump through 99 hoops for a simple effect
look at it this way
when wraith has aura reading he is in his power and physically cannot attack you giving you an opportunity to get away so 12 meters aura reading on that is reasonable for a purple addon
when blight is rushing you have to move fast before the survivor gets to something so either way if given information you either can be fast enough to act on it or look at it too long and slow yourself down missing hits so in a way he becomes even more skill based
when pig is crouched I'm gonna stop this one here no one uses pigs aura reading addon
when oni gives up and entire build and using his power for aura reading on top of needing a iridecent addon to do so its fine because he is still a m1 115% speed killer for the rest of the match then
plagues one is really the only one that should be nerfed
huntresses one is fun but most people never use it
myers one is fine but no one really uses them except for scratched mirror even then 105% speed isn't fun
doctor has to pay attention to white auras around the map or doesn't even get any use of it
hag just gets them on her traps at the cost of an addon slot which is a lot for a killer that has, mint rag, silent traps, faster setting traps, and more trap teleport range all at her disposal so its for example giving up an additional 25% teleport range for slightly more consistent trap hits or hook camps
cannibal is back revving with his addon only
freddy is dream pallet auras only which isn't that useful since no one really disarms dream pallets
clown is clown and needs it because its a little bit of help
legion can read gens spooky
demo can read injured survivors auras well traversing, other than the fact he can't freely look around and people rarely use the portals this is op op
ghostface caught on tape is alright especially if you down someone while undetectable it just reveals everyone
deathslingers hellshire iron has never been used by anyone who plays deathslinger as far as I have seen
executioner can use their addon they would never trade out because they are too busy using ranged addons to see survivors who are tormented when they send a tormented survivor to a cage
twins need all the help they can get
overall 4-5 addons pretty easy to use and 1 of them that is blatantly strong and needs to be looked at so why don't you make a informed analysis of that one instead of making an uninformed blanketed statement towards a fair subset of addons that make the game more interesting or would you rather killers all have a blindness addon or hemorrhage addons instead
Ok then calm down I was just expressing my concerns for something no need to be rude. I just thought at first they didn't have any downsides because being able to see auras is the most powerful tracking in the game.

There are plenty of things in the game that don't require effort and are still powerful. Not every add-on and perk in the game needs to have a drawback.
If anything can be taken from this, it's that Distortion needs a buff.
Genuine question: is it really fair and balanced that not every strong thing has a drawback? And why?
-
@bjorksnas said:
the addons are fine and survivors don't have aura reading items on killer they have aura reading perks
if you really don't like killers ability to see auras just use perks like
alert
kindred + open handed
object of obsession
dark sense
babysitter
breakdown
or even counter with
sole survivor
distortion
off the record
but the killer does have to give up entire addon slots just to use aura reading and sometimes even more detrimental then giving up a slot like oni the aura reading addon even has downsides such that he can only use his power 1 - 2 times a game
I'm Not concerned with killers reading my aura I'm more concerned with the fact that the addons take little effort to achieve which is concerning since aura reads are really powerful. And the counters survivors have aren't that good, sole survivor requires that your teammates dies in order to use its effects. Distortion had only 3 limted uses and doesn't stop the killer from putting on multiple aura reading perks with thr addons to take away your tokens and off the record only have its effects every time your hooked meaning you can only use it twice.
-
@Mr_K said:
OoO will show the killer's aura whenever the killer sees your aura. If killer aura reading perks/addons really is a big issue, survivors will start to run it.
Take note, the OoO downside is only for the obsession. Non-obsessions get free aura reading.
Well yes I do agree but that doesn't take away from the fact that the aura read killers get from the addons take very little to achieve. Most require you to use your power which is not really that difficult.
-
@Mr_K said:
If the OoO changes go through then many of your issues are solved.
Actually nevermind I get it. But how long until it came out? Wasn't it supposed to come out with the DS change especially since people agreed with them
-
I would love for premonition to be buffed. It's completely overshadowed by spine chill, mainly because the cooldown is too long.

Stridor doesn't completely take away stealth for survivors though. Stridor only makes it harder. Survivors can still use lockers, finished generators, and iron will (it still works). It just buffs a killer's ability to use sound to find survivors without making it totally unfair for survivors. So no I don't think that we should change stridor with iron will.
Ok then. I guess I'm convinced. Although it would need testing in order to be official.

The thing is perks that disable the other two forms of tracking are very limited. Imagine if iron will for some reason made scratch marks disappear almost immediately, that doesn't sound too fair right?
The only reason those types of perks are bad is because they are situational and limited (take poised for example). Iron will is so strong because it lasts forever, and doesn't require any special condition to activate, it just activates when injured. There isn't a single killer perk that completely takes out any aspect of gameplay for survivors, yet survivors have iron will which completely removes an option for tracking on the killer side.
I think iron will should only dramatically reduce noises made by being injured by 75% because that seems perfect since it doesn't completely take away its stealth potential, but it doesn't make it non-existent for the killer.
Well what about stridor? Arguably iron wills equivalent is stridor so any changes to iron will you would most likely have to stridor wouldn't you?
-
@Yords said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2009655#Comment_2009655
I honestly think iron will is borderline unfair since it completely removes a tracking option for killers, and the survivors don't even do anything to earn it. I think a 25% nerf would be nice and is definitely not bad at all. They could crouch away and make almost no noise and it would teach survivors to make use of the environment to get away from the killer. For example, with 75% noise reduction (lvl 2 iron will) a survivor can hide pretty well near a generator that has at least 15% progress on it (because of the noise muffling the injured survivor) and completely muffle them in lockers.
Yeah But there are other tracking tools like blood and scratch marks, as well as an assortment of killer perks that make tracking survivors easier. And I don't think it's right to have every perk require that you do something to get the effect.

A good idea that I heard from the community-made patch compiled by otz was to make her show glimpses of herself each second or so when she is phasing. To me, that sounds awesome and fits her design as a ghosty kind of killer and wouldn't exactly ruin her power. It could probably use some tweaks though.
Not a bad idea. And with this change it would prompt the devs to nerf iron will.

I think we should still nerf it. What we need instead of keeping iron will is reworking the spirit instead of keeping iron will as a sort of band-aid fix.
Rework the spirit how?

Sounds have been messed up for a very, very long time. They seem to ######### up in a new way every patch.
Well how often are they reported? If they were reported all the time they should have fixed it by now

I'm not advocating for nerfing it, I'm advocating for fixing sound issues and/or toning back the loud ass ambient sounds that drown out and cover up tracking an injured survivor.
Oh ok. Well to be honest I don't think I have experienced sound bugs or at least notice them. Shouldn't they have fixed it already? How long had they been in the game?
-
Can we not nerf iron will please. Ita one of the only counters against stridor spirit and nerfing that would make her too powerful.
-
That's nice are you having fun playing them? I find it fun to play against them.

People are always quick to say that punishing people for playing a certain way is a bad idea.
But what they really mean is "I want to hide in the bushes and play hide-and-seek."
If it were truly "people can play however they want to play" then there wouldn't be any complaints about insidious basement Bubba, and perks like Decisive Strike, Borrowed Time, and Unbreakable wouldn't exist (or maybe they would, but nobody would complain about camping, tunneling, or slugging, because after all: you shouldn't punish people for playing a particular way).
Well that's the dilemma that arises. Do you pushnish people for playing how they want to increase fun and decrease toxicity or do you want to keep freedom of playstyle but deal with these annoying but valid play styles.
Where do you fall?
-
Didn't they have a offering for that?
-
Don't mind me, Im just a harmless detectives hunch user.

No everyone has the right to dodge any lobby they see fit. I have dodged against 2 p3 claudettes and I'm a survivor.
-
Actually I would not agree. Sure I believe in freedom of speech but it doesn't protect against speech that is ment to cause harm to people. Derogatory words and phrases are meant to cause harm create unnecessary discord between people and thereforr shouldn't be protected at all.

^ that last sentence.
you can’t really change up your perks when everytime a new Survivor is released, the perks are copy/paste and not beneficial.
I don't think I agree. I feel their is nothing wrong with creating bad perks on their own. They are making perks that synergize great with other perks to encourage survivors to try new things.
-
I think us survivors are so concerned about winning that we Just the best perks out there and don't really experiment. I stopped using all meta perks because I know how unfun it is to killer and I started to experiment. And now I have completely different builds. It's honestly fun and I feel good when I don't rely on meta perks to win.

Unfair?
The game is PC Blight vs. console/PC Survivors, not console Blight vs PC Blight.
If this game was a game where two sides are given a character - Blight - and you're supposed to both have an equally strong Blight to fight each other, but one Blight has the advantage over the other Blight because one Blight is on PC or console and they have some type of advantage in their controls that is not possible at all for the other side, of course, that'd be unfair.
However, this game is not Blight vs Blight. It's Blight vs. Survivors. You do not have any more of an advantage over console survivors with flicks than you do against PC survivors; both can use the same effective counterplay against a flick Blight.
The reason it's considered unfair is that you just WANT the tech for console. It seems to be more of a jealousy thing. I understand, flicking with Blight is fun. So instead of taking it away from PC for no reason, why not just make Blight better on console? I see his controls are pretty terrible already on a controller, so let's advocate for giving him better control on console rather than restricting Blight on PC when there's no actual problem with it besides the fact that it's unintended, but actually adds to the experience as and against him.
@[Deleted User] said:
It's not an exploit. Give me a break. You know how you dodge out to avoid a Billy curve if he's curving tight? Do that. You don't even need a super special mouse. I know people who J flick at 1600 dpi. I use 4800-6000 to save my wrist.
Why don't we just hard cap everyone's FPS at a steady 30 so Switch isn't at a disadvantage? Analog sticks were never meant to pan a first person camera. They're inherently limited as to what they can do. That's not a reason to kill the skill cap of a killer. We'd have an extremely boring roster if every killer was designed around consoles.
Do you have video of someone doing this supposed counter against blight?

How many more seconds does thanataphobia add on to gen speed?

Why even play the game if they're going to be scared of coming across the Killer? I can get being stealthy to escape a chase, but just hiding the whole time?
I'd just turn on some Mastodon and wait until gen gets worked on.
I was like this at first when I played. I hid against a pig in a basement locker all game. I was too scared to play I DCed when she found me.

For a second I thought this was a troll post, but it dovetails into another issue.
It's not the immersion part, it's the borderline holding the game hostage part.
I said it before, and I will say it again: the game needs a hard time limit, at which time the Entity takes out every Survivor like the EGC.
I agree the issue your talking can be solved with having a time limit in the game that ends to prevent it from drawing on.
But punishing people for playing a particular way isn't the best way.

Except I was in a match today where the only reason I stopped a snowball against a nurse running Thana and Infectious Fright was exactly because I could crawl away and the Nurse couldn’t find me. In that time the Nurse wasted searching for me I’ve revived, every body else crawled as far away from each other as much as possible, I revive one of them, we get the others up.
We ended up finishing repairs, and escaping.
BUT OH NO, PERMANENT 5% DEBUFF. GASP!!!
I feel like we're just going to go around in circles saying the same thing so I'm just going to end it now.
If you wanna go around think no mither is the best perk ever in the game then go ahead. I still think it's bad.

5%!!!!!!!
WHATEVER SHALL WE DO?!?!
WOE IS US. ALL IS LOST.
SHUDDER.
That still doesn't take away from thecfact that it hinders my team even if the effect isn't great.
I would rather run perks that help better my team and have a better impact then a perk that can negatively impact my team. If you find the perk good all power to you.
-
If the twins or any killer has thanataphobia then it's a permanent debuff to gen speeds with no effort on the killers part snd hinders my team. Because of this I don't think I can ever use No mither.

As a survivor main I play fair by only using one meta perk in my build or non at all. If the other side is having fun and have a fair chance then I'm happy as well.
-
I think I'm mostly fine with NOED. Mainly because I incorporated Detectives hunch in one of my builds and I always use maps. If I were to change It I would change it by making it so that you get the exposed effect once the last generator is done instead when someone is down. Its just really annoying when your down but you didn't even knew they had it.

You can actually counter the flick by running the opposite way you think they're gonna flick. EG, lets say you're looping around a car and he goes to flick around the car to hit you, you can run away from the car to avoid the hit.
Of course he can counteract this by predicting you will dodge it, but then you can counter that by continuing the car loop. It basically becomes a 50/50 so I have no issue with it.
Do you have a video showing an example?

This whole discussion sparked from one match I've had against a Blight on Game Map who knew about this so called "tech".
I managed to avoid his second attack because I got hit ... AROUND A CORNER with the first one... and knew instantly what kind of blight I was going against.
I went against a blight like this recently and I was playing with my friends on autohaven. Some of his turns was strange and should not be possible. I wanted to make a post on it but I thought maybe he was just the better player untill I saw this post. Thank you letting this issue be known.

McLean acknowledged in one of his streams that is something unintended in the game but they don't plan on removing it. Other killers like Oni, Nurse or Billy are also able to make insane flicks using high DPI.
Honestly I don't see the problem in this. Survivors also have things like window tech, CJ tech, Dead Hard or fast vaulting while standing still, etc that are all unintended. These are just things that add a bit more of skill to the game. Besides that, I've yet to face a Blight that does 180s.
Ok I guess it would be fair if it can be countered. How do you counter the flick?
-
Since when is trying to sabo a hook or use a flashlight to save your teammates toxic?
You slugged them and let them bleedout instead of hooking them, I would say your in the wrong and your toxic.

I tend to just t-bag them if they're being overly sweaty, like omega tunnel-y, campy, or slugging until the person is about to bleed out kind of thing. I get a laugh before I die, they get to feel happy cause they won the game. It all works out.
Well what does it even mean to play casually? Like you do some gens and then dies or what?

You have to ask yourself:
"Does it really bother me more having 2 meta perks, or the killer?" I'm pretty damn sure, the killer isn't gonna think twice running more than one meta perks himself. Or running something really annoying and obnoxious and send you to the game map with impossible skill checks doc...
In the end, it's your fun & build, you choose how to play and run it.
I think your right. Thanks
