  • It's good you pointed out it's the new killer because I had already forgotten about her.

    Which answers your question.

  • I've got about 2.5K hours in the game, on multiple platforms. I play both roles (nobody can hope to improve without playing both sides) and I own every character.

Answering taking everything into account is next to impossible.

First, let's forget about beginners, they are only there to corrupt the statistics.

Killers are mostly useless. Nurse and Blight are the only ones not too easy to ridicule.

Perks are mostly useless, both sides. There is only a small set that make sense and you have to waste time for hours to finally get the good ones. Thankfully you only need to focus on one survivor and maybe 5 killers. Also survivors have way too many second-chance perks. (Probably because the game is balanced for beginners and they need all the help they can get at that level of experience).

Add-ons are mostly OK, except Iridescent hatchet which is just busted. I'm not saying there aren't powerful add-ons making life difficult for the survivors, only that that specific one is shameful.

Offering which give some bonus are fine IMHO. Map offering though, given how busted some maps are, is just disgraceful. Of course an offering like MacMillan is fine. I'd drop them from the game.

Map generation is bad. Too many times you get a dead-zone or its opposite: a chaining of safe zones allowing a competent survivor to last several minutes in a chase (that a competent killer will recognize and drop immediately, cursing the devs).

The first fact is that playing survivor is easier. Most of the time you are doing simple things and sometimes you are in a chase. Do the gens, save a friend, leave. The killer however has no downtime, is pressured by time and needs to juggle with 4 people. If the survivors are on comms, they can even share information to make it easier. That problem isn't exclusive to DbD. I've played VHS and it's even worse there.

The second fact is that, on many maps, efficient survivors are next to impossible to beat. The killer can only be at one place at a time and with coordination gens will fly. Everyone with experience knows a game over in barely 5 minutes is quite common. Getting survivors down fast is irrelevant, they only need to ensure a good spread and to get far from the currently worked gens. (And yes, there is more like protections and fast healing, that's only making the problem worse.) Granted, a killer can finish a game faster but that's not very common and it requires survivors to absolutely f-up (I'm getting full wipes in about 2 minutes once in a while, and it's always their fault.)

The third fact is that some maps are very badly designed and are making many killers next to useless. (Although I smile when I play Nurse and an offering sends me in a multi-floor map, even RPD as I'll be extra nasty in it). Players have often advocated against big maps and BHVR is still giving us that crap.

Killer is stressful and often unrewarding and has been for as long as I can remember. (There have been some exceptions, corrected by the devs e.g. omega Nurse was busted, in the hand of an adequate player.) The matchmaking was awful and your never knew what to prepare for. This was also true for the survivor side but again : survivor isn't as stressful.

Cue the MMR. (With a swarm of players screaming : bad idea, can't do it, will never work, only makes sense in a balanced game ...)

Now, once a killer wins a few games, he gets against top players. This means that from the bad, random, games he mostly get highly stressful, barely winnable, ones. MMR has a soft cap (else survivor teams would never find a game) so it's a chore.

Many players finally give up, making killers even more scarce they already were.

The killers who remain go heavy on using efficient but oh-not-fun-at-all tactics like tunneling and camping (the killer equivalent of genrushing). It comes from a mix of efficiency and desperation. Lower score? Lowers MMR? Even more reason to do it then.

Now the average survivors who didn't ask anything get frustrated killers who expect yet another ######### game. The killers treat these poor guys the same way and now the average survivor start to find the game awful because they are tunneled, slugged, camped and there is nothing they can do. Some of them leave the game.

And now comes COH, making playing "fun" even worse for killers as survivors heal way too fast ad nauseam. (Some survivors now specialize in protection hits). More killers leave. Tunneling and camping are de-facto the only way to hope winning against a good team.

Now, when I play survivor, if I get caught, I get camped or tunneled and the 3 others escape (a win for the team). I don't really have a team anymore as they have all given up on the game. Sometimes they come back, play two rounds, get camped/tunneled, and leave again.

Now, when I play killer, I treat any team looking even barely competent with a 4 slug and if it doesn't work, by tunneling them one by one. If by the time I've broken half of the pallets of the match and downed one 3 gens are done, I'll probably camp there and wait for them to come or leave the game. I see no reason to waste more of my time. (The weaker teams get a pass for a 3k after doing 4 gens + hatch.)

    Yay, fun.

So, looking at efficient games, survivors have definitively an edge even against a Nurse. I believe the main culprits are map size vs generator speed and COH.

Without COH, survivors would have to waste more time healing if they want to be safe.

With smaller maps, the killer can find and disturb survivors more easily, reducing the pace of the game. Besides it would also lead to more interactions between survivors and killers. (Because, seriously, who likes to wait for 5 to 10 minutes to play a game only to do gens QTEs, barely seeing the killer?)

DH, which is one of the current top complains, wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't making survivors last so much longer.

  • Fine, really.

In my games, DCers are usually BMers who got spanked during their first attempt at trolling. I've been getting well mannered survivors these last few days. (Excluding the cheaters of course)

The worst I get are survivors giving up, sometimes going AFK (with the crows) while their whole team has been hooked. They are pretty rare though. Maybe one every 5 or 6 games.

Before my last hiatus, I sometimes had two DCs during my first blink. This is definitively better.

  • I've just tried the Hag again and I believe she still has the same issues.

    It's not the 13th anymore?

    You'll love it.

  • Make them breakable by the killer. One use only.

  • @GuyFawx said:

Did you ever play 5B nurse? she was only busted then as that was pretty hard to juke

And yet survivors managed to juke her, and do great skill checks on Ruin, etc ...

Not to say she wasn't busted. The few times I used the 3 blinks add-ons, I had to use the 3rd one on purpose. It's pretty rare to need it for a real practical reason.

  • They aren't, not really. They are just slow.

If you look at the change history, they have made some good ones.

They've also got some critical fails like the boons, assuming they were meant to give the survivors something else to do than sit on gens.

  • If the survivors aren't playing gen-jockeys or look a bit too inexperienced for me, I'll spread the pain and even feign to ignore a survivor to give them the opportunity to save.

If the survivors are focused on getting my attention or trying to "bully" me instead of doing gens, I'll be as nice as possible while smacking them down. (I really want to encourage that kind of play.)

If at all possible, I only start killing when there are two gens left.

However, if I feel pressured by time, I'll thin the herd as fast as possible without a care for DS.

People say twins are ez to counter so why they aren't fun to go against?

Maybe they are now, I don't know. I think they have been nerfed but I've been away for a long while.

  • Their play-style used to promote camping.

I believe it comes from that time.

I don't like to play nor verse her myself.

I got mine on my 3rd attempt at Rank 1. Had a 4K on the 2nd attempt, but I got the Condemnation Mori on one of the survivors that kept me from Merciless. Definitely don't Mori with her power if you're looking for the Adept.

Yes, Adept is so well designed that using the killer's power is counter-productive.

  • Unless they got a perk, it's still 4% for each try so about 11.5% if they try 3 times.

I won't be doing that in the first place... to much luck involved

It's probably easier to wait for the reset. If the rules haven't changed the requirements are smaller for "low" ranks than for rank 1.

Has anybody any ideas as to why the German word "deine" gets censored in the after-game chat? I am really confused because it just means yours in german???

I presume the word may mean something else in some other language.

There are a lot of French words censored too. In the sentence "He is late", the French word for "late" is that word meaning someone is intellectually challenged in English. (r****d)

  • You realize this applies to most killers, right?

  • @MilManson said:

Why is gen rushing still allowed? Why is survivor body blocking still allowed? Why is endless boon totems still allowed?

That last one is absolutely disgusting. It's probably one of the reasons the population is dropping.

  • No, for all of the reasons above.

  • DS pre-nerf was a PITA.

    Current DS seems fine.

  • I've finally played against her. I consider myself pretty average as survivor and I find her wanting.

Granted this is day #2 but it was my first vs game (I've played her several times yesterday though).

I'm way more wary versing Wraith, Pig, Ghostface or Demogorgon than her. Let's not even speak about Freddy.

Not if it’s two or more survivors left, immersing through the map. Guess you’ve never experienced it or heard of it.

This almost never happens. Usually they waste 10 minutes trying to find a way to get one gen done but they end up doing something.

Usually they have the hope that if one of them gets downed, they still have the hatch play.

  • No, it's perfect the way it is.

It was meant to be a way for survivors to escape from an impossible situation at the end of the game (instead hiding forever).

And it's exactly what it's doing right now.

  • No. The first minimal step to make boons balanced is to make them breakable for the remainder of the game by the killer.

  • My understanding of the system is that the killer's MMR is updated against the four survivors.

Your 1K is likely to increase your MMR slightly.

But the 3 escapes are likely to lower it.

A hatch escape is considered a draw so it doesn't affect the MMR.

If you are a good killer, you can't come in here and say "boohoo, 360 OP I can't catch survivors who 360". Literally, if you're anywhere near good, you shouldn't get spun more than once (the element of surprise)

Seriously people, complaining about 360s from all the things? One of the most unreliable techs in the game that only works as a last resort.

Also, how do you propose removing 360s? You can't just change hitboxes, that would mess with SO many things.

Simply fixing the bad camera math so survivors would turn at the predefined speed would be fine.

You can't change a fair mechanic because people with bad internet struggle against it.

360s are fine and period. They at most work only the first time and on bad killers. Learn to play killer then complain about 360.

No, it's the ones with a bad internet that benefit from it.

    See: here's the thing.

If I leave my house unlocked, that is a silly thing to do.

However, it doesn't mean that I deserve to be robbed, or that the robbers are somehow not at fault.

The real fault always rests with the person doing something deliberately malicious, not the person who is perhaps a bit too trusting.

You have not left your house unlocked.

You have invited self-proclaimed robbers into your house.

Oh my God, I loaded into that map and all of my precious walls were broken. I threw a b fit, bruh. I was whining about it the whole game and swore that I would, from that point forward, use the Scott Jund method.

    You'll have to explain.

  • Spirit has been nerfed so now only a inexperienced player would not know what she is doing. Going against her isn't even thrilling anymore. (Why do you think she virtually disappeared from high MMR games?)

Sadako is a weak killer from the start.

If you don't know how to counter a killer, here is a tip : play it until you stop winning and see what the survivors do.

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

Despite YouTube videos saying otherwise, I'm not convinced that spinning your camera actually makes any difference to your spins, and if it does it can't make much difference. I tried a custom game and the other player couldn't tell when I was spinning my camera and when I was not.

Then you aren't doing it right. There is a "feature" that kind of exploit the camera to turn way faster than you are supposed to as survivor. Can do almost instant 180°. If you do that right next to the killer, you can manage to be out of his line of sight. Killers do not have that camera bug so they comparatively turn as a liner.

Well that would be honestly OP because you could just outloop any loop by just going in and out of your power and only thing that would that poor Survivor saved would be a window.

Also it is good you can pass and ignore the Survivors. It counters body blocking.

She would still have to dematerialise. Now she is a ghost with xylophobia.

  • After a while, I guess you get bored of going to maps that are stupidly big, no decent line of sight, lots of safe zones and/or god loops.

This is doubly true if you get the bloody map twice or thrice in a row.

I can understand how alt-tabbing to a fun game while the survivors do their gens in 5 minutes can be seen as a viable alternative.

Personally in those cases prefer to tunnel and/or camp the first survivor I find so the others have an incentive to do the gens as fast as possible. If they come to the hook, more effortless benefit for me.

The teleport definitely gives her better pressure than Wraith, and the built in slowdown is... better than nothing, I guess.

But in no world is she better than Wraith. Not even in the land of make believe.

In the sense of map traversal, yes. But after that she is kind of powerless in a chase. And that teleportation has a TV cool down that makes it very unpractical.

  • Nope. Same experience than you. I've given up on her already.

I play killer about 65 to 70% of the time and I care a lot more about BP and my grade (which gives me more BP) than I do an invisible number that does nothing for me. Also, facecamping is a terrible way to take out a survivor if you want a 4K (unless the survivors are relatively new to the game).

    4k? Are you dreaming?

She is average at best. As soon as you get a few wins, that's it for her.

  • MMR

    Boons

    Cheaters

    Dead Hard

    Very few worthy killers

Games of meta builds after meta after meta after meta ...

  • Nope, that's it. She is back to the well until further notice.

This has to be so rare, today i was playing like 20 matches with her and this bug didn't happen. Some nostalgia of 'old' blink bug xD

If you notice, the recharge bar was about one or two pixel wide when I pressed the blink button.

I believe it was the same trigger for the old bug, which is why it used to happen more in tight chases.

    @AetherBytes said:

she's just gasping at losing 2 gens

Maybe she was eager to chase but she knows warm-ups are always needed before doing ethereal activity. 😉

  • Nope. At least she has one good perk so it's not a complete loss. I've seen enough of her until her next update.

The way I see it she is a lesser Wraith with a gimmicky teleportation that is mostly useless against the average survivor.

And Freddy's teleportation is better because at least it can make the survivors leave a gen or reveal themselves.

  • The logs, second try. I guess the game keeps the file open in exclusive access.

Yeah I do not doubt the VHS devs are bad similar to most other indie company devs (or mainstream for that matter). But all it's going to take is one competent re-creation of DBD where they copy the fast pace/mind-gamey playstyle of it. I never said VHS will kill DBD, it definitely will not. They really seem to be going the same road as "Last Year" in that they are designing a really un-fun goofy game where nothing ever feels at stake. But i did notice VHS copied DBD way more than Last Year did in some ways; they just messed up other parts a bit too much.

1v4 has massive potential for creativity and at the end of the day fun is what matters for videogames. DBD can get really boring after a few games because all the killers are kind of the same and these developers have not innovated with ANYTHING in any major way for all the time its been up.

No new gamemodes like 2v8, no crazy killer powers like mind control, summoning monsters, etc.

Not even ranked mode or addressing the freakin disparity between SWF and non-SWF. Literally no difference despite the fact its gamebreaking.

You get any competent dev team who wants to innovate the 1v4 asym. genre in a meaningful way and people will drop DBD like a hot potato to play killers/survivors with more interesting powers/ability sets (maybe more than 1-2 per, crazy right).

All their licenses aren't going to mean anything when DBD's killers are underwhelming (and only considered fun because nothing to compare it with).

Actually the devs themselves seem competent. They seem to know what they are talking about (something I cannot say from every dev I've ever heard).

  • I don't want to see Ripley nor the Xenomorph ridiculed. Thank you very much.

  • @Swampoffering said:

It is simple, survivors are more than 85% of total playerbase, that means survivors pay the bills so... Why make them angry balancing the Game? Nope, let them use Killers as toys and have fun abusing them, Killers are just 10-15% of players so they can deal with Killers leaving the Game instead of survivors leaving.

And the most important thing, we are speaking about Behaviour, one of the worst companies on videogames industries that waste resources on developing new skins than fixing the Game, at least EA or Ubi fix their games before trying to steal money to their customers with trash content.

Behaviour please, fix X bug - Behaviour release a new David King skin xD

This is a problem another 4 vs 1 game that'll stay anonymous will have to solve. The "killer" is way more tiring and stressful than the "survivors". (I can't do more than 3 killer games in a row myself during the week.) However at high level, the killer loses way more often (something like 20% win rate).

  • @Barbarossa2020 said:

I'm not sure what you mean. I think it's the opposite. (Catch up?) While the killer chases someone, the other survivors can move faster on generators.

Say if you've done 1 gen and the killer has no hooks well im chasing someone you're able to do the other gens faster. Thus the killer falls behind more.

And by regression i wasnt refering to Ruin, i was meaning when i kick a gen it needs to do a meaniful amount of damage, and you need to spend a meaniful amount of time to stop it regressing.

If you want Killers to stop camping and tunneling, give them an objective that has value, because kicking gens is not value for time invested unless you're next to one on a down.

Say if you've done 1 gen and the killer has no hooks well im chasing someone you're able to do the other gens faster. Thus the killer falls behind more.

Except that they can only work efficiently on one gen. The biggest problem is doing gens in parallel IMHO.

And by regression i wasnt refering to Ruin, i was meaning when i kick a gen it needs to do a meaniful amount of damage, and you need to spend a meaniful amount of time to stop it regressing.

Yes, I understand and I agree that in the current setup it would help somewhat. There have been a lot of discussions about that in the past.

But what I meant with Ruin is that the hex is useless against good teams because they'll not care. Unless kicking a gen blocks it for 30 seconds or something the other gens will still pop. (Genrush is parallelism, that's the killer.)

If you want Killers to stop camping and tunneling, give them an objective that has value, because kicking gens is not value for time invested unless you're next to one on a down.

Yes, kicking gens is rarely a good move. I don't even use slow-down perks on my main. I just try to kill them all as fast as possible.

Giving something else to do is nice. I still believe that as long as gens are flying killing someone fast will be the easiest answer.

  • Not a justification (because I bloody do like I please) but here an explanation of what I sometimes do.

There is this experiment I've just started for when I can't focus on the game (phone, whatever).

I take Bubba. I wait in the basement with Insidious and Tinkerer. And like the spider, I wait for some prey.

If a victim comes (slightly more than 50% of games at the moment), I wait for it to pass me, down and hook it then wait again.

In no circumstance I go out of the basement. Even to catch one who managed to run or crawl away.

Some survivors understand the play, most don't.

Most games are kind of funny though, as I see them on the corner or the screen, trying to find a way to save the one greedy fool who went for the basement chest.

    Sometimes they even succeed.

1 … 75 76 77 78 79 … 83
