Haha, thats a good one. I tested this when Otz or someone had a video about this. They used a Medkit back then.

But i did not always got it to work :-)

And now killer walks past you and Floods of Rage pop and he just sees you.

Thats kind of the whole point. You could and still can hide in this game. Which i think is completely ok in a horror game.

But due to the aura reading more and more of these opportunities are taken away. I think thats sad.

Oh, now I understand the link with Distortion. It wasn't Otz but another streamer I'd rather not name right now because it could derive into drama.

The perk doesn't always work but that's not a problem for me. It's when it works that's the most fun. And when it doesn't … it still makes me laugh like a kid caught doing something naughty.

I've considered replacing self-care by Distortion and a med-kid (I usually don't use any tool)

It should extend the value a bit. Besides, if the killer is one of the ones I handle well*, I can probably recharge it once or twice.

*) e.g. Nurse, Blight, Spirit … as long as they aren't stronger than me in that role

    I didn´t use distortion much.

My normal build is Bond, Kindred, and variations of Small Game or WoO or recently Inner Focus and Alert. Or healing stuff - challenge dependend.

I also never used DS or DH. Thats what i mean with casual.

Distortion for chase is pretty meaningless as the players i see don´t last long. Earning a token when you go down doesn´t do much.

It blocks Lethal but the BBQ already gets you now. They may earn one token but Predator uses it if they manage to escape - which most don´t.

Since the subject is Distortion, I assumed.

That's indeed quite the casual build (with WoO being the best perk for chase in this build)

    My usual build is …

    image.png

You get hit, you run with Overcome to break line of sight, helped by Lucky Break, then you start healing and make no noise anymore for a while.

The killer usually loses you, walking right next to you.

Anyway, that's a bit far from the original subject.

As survivor, I did wiggle out and loop my way to an open gate once. I guess it would happen slightly more if I ran certain perks. I've also had some extremely close hatch races, which I think are the most obvious gameplay scenario that can be impacted by the finisher mori.

As killer, I don't remember; I tend not to care when a survivor escapes. Though I think we probably all have had some matches where the gate is open and we see a surprise escape.

Agreed though; the actual buff is small :D

Then maybe it happens more than I'm used to. (I could only see it as killer as I don't use any variation of the "funny build")

As survivor the only surprise escape I ever got was a 4% from a hook next to the gate, past the killer. I still remember how exhilarating getting out like that was. 😁

I usually don't really care if the last survivor escapes either to be honest.

  • @smurf said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3829851#Comment_3829851

It is a small buff; it removes the ability of the last survivor to try to wiggle free on the way to the hook. Typically, this doesn't matter much, but in some cases can be the difference between hatch and escape, or (more likely) running out an already opened gate as the last survivor left.

How many times have you got a last survivor wiggling out?

It's certainly not impossible but I can't recall having experienced that for years, if ever.

Worst case, if the survivor has a funny build, I'll drop him and let him bleed to death. That's pretty rare too, maybe a handful per year?

So yes, an extremely small buff as far as I'm concerned.

Did it ever happened to you?

I'll pick up a survivor to put them in a better position. Had a game the other night where someone used hatch offering for main building. I downed the last survivor while their teammate was dying on hook, then carried them away from main building incase hatch spawned under them.

I had that twice yesterday. I've let them crawl to the spawn point of the hatch (they had an offering) and while the last survivor died on hook, I moved them a few meters away then did the Mori.

  • @Doxie said:

Once again...killer buff. Must be nice to not have to use an offering giving them another advantage when using a map offering. Don't cry when survivors give up on second hook

No, not a buff at all.

And, just in case it's not obvious, thank you for killing yourself on hook to help the killer and ruin your team's chance. <3

I play long enough and also very casual and offensive. So i do my challenges and die already a lot.

But i can recognize the perks and see how quick people go down.

To me it is just annoying trying to hide somewhere and seeing the killer beelining to me.

… also - is today Blight day or something? Ran into three 3 Blights, 2 P100. Were very short games…

    With Distortion?

How do you see the killer bee-lining to you?

Distortion gives you enough tokens to last quite a while in a chase (15s only to recover a token). From my full-detection killer, it's still pretty strong.

On another hand, when I hear "aggressive", I think of that survivor play style that dies so well. (Opposite style being "respecting" the killer.)

As a general rule, playing aggressive against an aggressive killer isn't the best tactic. (Blight, Nurse, …)

You need a nice balance between stealth and chases. Stealth to not die, and chases because in this game you have to take chases for your team, so it should naturally happen.

  • It may not be "perfect" but it's pretty damn good.

I don't want to type full details again but I've been in a match against a Distortion team (with my full-detection Nurse) and I've got basically two detection for the whole match. (If I recall I had one kill only, on one of my usually strongest map: The Game)

I'd say playing against a perk-less Nurse is quite the high value.

Ah, okay. Thank you for informing me. :)

But also… yuck, how useless. The survivors got to play gen repair sim. It should've just left us all in the queue.

I often monitor the network traffic. If I suddenly get high ping in the game (e.g. 110ms when I'm usually around 35) I sometimes check where my game traffic is going to.

I've been sent to the USA several time as survivor. (And maybe also as killer, to verse other European players given everybody's ping)

I was event sent somewhere on East Asia at least once.

  • It's not exactly a high ping killer issue.

It's a high ping player issue.

When I play killer and I'm sent against high ping survivors, getting a hit is more luck based than anything else.

Let's not group high pings with low pings. (My ping is about 35ms)

  • It is generally accepted by both sides that SoloQ < killer < SWF4.

If you agree with that then what he says isn't entirely wrong. But it lacks nuance, that's for sure.

Even for a pre-made of four, calling the survivor side easy is ignoring the skills acquired to play like a SWAT team. I think it deserves some recognition.

And of course soloQ, especially at low MMR, is very difficult. I don't believe anybody can say otherwise with a straight face.

(But I still enjoy soloQ, that's a different issue.)

Really no point in running it when Boon: Shadow Step exists

As survivor I'd still rather use Distortion.

Shadow Step requires setup and is localized around that totem. It's certainly very strong when it comes into play.

But I know which one damages me the most as killer, and that's that experience that I use to decide how to play my Claudette.

A full team on Distortion starts with a huge bonus against my Nurse. I can only guess the starting location (with about 50% accuracy) instead of knowing exactly who's doing what from the beginning of the match.

When I come to a gen, I can't find the lingering survivors fast enough, if ever.

When they do a quick vault, I can't analyse how they mind game so I can predict their moves as fast as I would normally.

If they are good, I'll have to play very hard to get one or two kills.

With Shadow Step, I'll only have to snuff the totem out, or push them away, or find someone on an "unbooned" place.

That's annoying but not nearly as much.

I've never versed a team with four Shadow Steps spread around mind you. But I suspect I could always find someone faster than with Distortion. And in this case I could switch to tunneling them to counter the threat of the totems.

TL/DR: in the current state I still dread Distortion but I'm only wary of Shadow Step.

Again, this is only an impression based on my experience (~4k hours Nurse/Blendette).

  • This feature allowed me to show a pretty complete picture of what Dead by Daylight is to Discord friends.

I've done a full demo of Huntress, Nurse, Shape (with a Tombstone) and Plague. When I told them a killer was puking on survivors, they were ecstatic. 😁

Maybe I've found us two young recruits.

  • Ruins the game for the four other players, although it may give the killer a laugh.

Should be grouped together for the next few weeks so they only ruin each-other's chances at winning.

  • I'm using OTR myself but I wasn't sure about some details, so I've checked the wiki.

The Endurance aspect disappears with a conspicuous action. Right.

But apparently, the aura blocking and grunts of pain aren't disabled by a conspicuous action? Is that right?

So in essence, it's better than both Distortion and Iron Will taken together?

It sounds much better than I remember.

  • I love going against Nurse, Spirit and Blight.

I'm sure I'll like going against Wesker once I learn to dodge him more easily.

Going against a Huntress can be fun. Especially if I can keep dodging hatchets.

I don't like going against stealth killers and the Doctor as they tend to be natural counters my play-style.

I don't like The Artist either for some reason.

I despise going against the Skull Merchant. (Not that I see her often mind you. I've not seen her since she was gutted.)

I don't feel strongly about other killers in general.

  • I don't see tunneling that often, or not before a few gens have popped.

However there are many perks to counter tunneling. Everybody will think of OTR, DS, DH, …

But Reassurance seems to be pretty good too. I've posted this a few days ago but I believe it may really help a lot of player to learn how to do it.

Im not. Object is much more fun.

And focus on word choice instead of substance, fine by me. My 'proof' is experience and other word of mouth. Definitely not BHVR stats or nitelight BS.

You should learn to make more moderated statements. Do I need to tell you how it otherwise sounds?

I say what I mean. Your opinion of it can be whatever you want. Its all about your perspective.

I understand you feel strongly about it.

However the word "proof" is pretty strong. A proof is undeniable. If you tell it's about people speaking here, yes, indeed. But it's not a proof at all. A lot of people are biased, especially with what they consider a bad experience.

If we are talking about experience, may players, me included, saw how many of he Distortion users were playing. The ones without Distortion were the biggest victims in these matches.

Now suddenly after the patch these egotistical players can't benefit from Distortion. I had not a single game like this since the change. I still have good teams using Distortion though. Just no cowards.

Distortion is still a PITA but at least it's not stupid anymore.

Then they deserve no right to complain about killers if they are going to play like that.

They should be considered the killers accomplice because them playing like that is helping the killer win.

I usually call them the fifth killer perk.

Many people complaining here don't seem to see that, assuming they aren't that kind of player.

A SWF wouldn't really gain from it they already are calling out where killer is if hooked. The perk is kindred that's 8-16m range on level and is countered by undetectable/blind.

    Ah yes, Kindrerd, indeed.

They would gain from it. Instead of needing to poll information, they would have it live and detailed. They could even infer the distance.

The only groups that wouldn't be improved by it would be the pretty rare "squads".

I don't believe the devs would do it. But who knows?

The rats persist. The claim all it did was let rats hide all game has already, vehemently been proven false.

I used it for the nurses, Blights, and Huntress' that just loved their aura's. Like the claim survivors can't loop without WoO, those three feel about the same without aura reads. Some even DC.

    "vehemently been proven false".

Funny, I've never seen any proof at all about that, so imagine "vehemently".

You should learn to make more moderated statements. Do I need to tell you how it otherwise sounds?

So all I get is that you were using Distortion against killers using it. Well, that's kind of the point of the perk isn't it?

Now these always-hiding players can't have that much benefit from it, which is good.

But by all means, don't use Distortion anymore. 😁

Well either way it doesn't matter now as they essentially killed Distortion so I guess the aura reading meta is in full swing now.

Just read my previous post about how "killed" it is. Only the problematic players are affected.

    Me! Ex-Distortion user :)

It's not strong enough to be viable. Im sure everyone has done their testing and we will get different results. But it fails in three major categories now and simply isn't worth much anymore.

To those who support it, cool!

I've played with four aura-reading perks against a team with four distortions.

I was essentially perk-less during the whole match. They only need a 15 seconds chase to recharge, which is short enough to be enabled before an aura reading comes into play.

In total, I got two auras during the match, while they were healing. That's quite a lot of Distortion value right there.

Distortion is only weaker for the ones who never get into a chase, which was the main problem of the perk.

  • It's either a diceroll like you say, either the exact same bot having some behavioral bug to kink-out.

Alternatively, it may be an MMR approximation of the rage-quitter it replaces.

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

I do find it weird how they completely gutted Distortion but seem to be buffing everything aura for killer. I am not a Distortion user by default, there are far more useful perks, however when I have used it the one thing I did notice is how often you get (or got) value out of it due to the sheer amount of aura perks in the game lately.

Then you get other matches with a killer like say Trapper, where you got zero value as Trappers don't tend to run full aura builds. The worst part is the killers that can take full advantage of this free info are often the ones that really don't need it.

With the insane amount of perks and addons in the game now, it can be hard to even realise that your aura is being exposed or even killer instinct is giving up your positional advantage. It is not what I would call a fun or highly interactive meta we are entering

If you were a Distortion user you'd know the perk is still pretty strong. It's only a problem for survivors hiding all the time.

  • So basically tell to everyone if the killer is close to that hook.

There is a perk more efficient than this, to see killer's aura next to the hook. (Can't recall the name at the moment.)

On another hand, that'd make SWFs even stronger.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

this is literally a ridiculous argument. Survivors have to react to the killer. It’s not the other way around. So the killer can leave the loop and chase someone else.

Stop asking for every little thing a survivor has to be nerfed. To all of you killer mains…. Play solo queue survivor, please just play a few games of that and then come back on here and say some idiot statement like nerf jungle gyms. I’m so sick and tired of scrolling these forums and seeing every thing being complained about. Need survivor, survivor shouldn’t have this perk, etc, etc. all you guys do is complain about survivor. Why don’t you just play the game?

Maybe I should post every day asking for a 50/50 escape and kill rate. Would that trigger all you killer mains?? It’s only fair right?? 50/50 seems fair to me. Why is it split 60/40??? That’s not fair at all.

I have an easy solution for the jungle gyms myself: I don't play these powerless M1 killers. Easy.

It doesn't mean nothing should be done. If not a change making the jungle gyms more fair to these weak killers, then maybe then some base buff applied to them would do the trick.

Note that reducing the strength of jungle gyms wouldn't be that bad IMHO. I'm not very good at looping (I'm a Blendette at heart) so I would get caught maybe one or two seconds earlier: big deal. Most survivors aren't experts and would minimally be affected. And that's assuming the killer is good BTW.

The 60% rate has been decided for very good and tried reasons.

If I recall, at some point it was aimed to 50% and survivors could not find killers to be matched against anymore. Fun times.

    @[Deleted User] said:

@theonryo123 No offense, but that’s a skill issue. There’s plenty of perks that will make the loop impossible for a survivor to loop. Or you can just leave the chase and go for someone else. It’s not a problem for m1 killers. It’s a practice issue. Keep playing just like the rest of us. You’ll be fine.

Sure, plenty. Care to share a few of these perks making looping impossible for the class?

  • @EternalRique said:

They (Behaviour) should implement harsher blocking measures because the targeted harassment in the game can be a bit much.

They can't because otherwise many will block a teammate they don't agree with (build or whatever other reason), any killer they've lost against, or members of SWF groups.

  • The one thing they need to fix is being flash-banged through the wall.

    That's a very disagreeable exploit.

When it happens, it tends to annoy me enough to four slug.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

This is why I keep Lightborn equipped and get annoyed when people are like, "just look at a wall." I've been blinded by survivors well outside my POV, I've been blinded at near or even actual 90-degree angles. (Add the console issues on top of all that and yeah, I haven't unequipped Lightborn for years).

It would be nice if BHVR would fix blinds. I used to be able to counter them back in the day. Used to. Something changed and it's never been fixed.

They made the blinds way more easier than they used to be. Now only the most incompetent fail a blind.

The only way it could be easier would be to make a blind automatic if they click at any point during the grab animation, anywhere in the vicinity of the killer.

  • Oh, makes sense then. It's so bright and red it hurts. A good thing I almost never wait long enough to see that.

  • How can yo u see anything with such a red filter.

    It's so ugly.

  • There have been many discussions in the past about thorough server-side validation and game recording.

The devs certainly know the concept. So either it's too difficult to implement in the current code, either they don't consider it a priority.

    …

Or maybe they are doing it already and delay-banning these guys to cast a wider net.

Overthinking can cause reaction times to slow down and Analysis paralysis, its definitely more common in other games and i experience it too sometimes, especially when time is limited, its called Kotov syndrome, its something you can exploit.

For example its a very common strategy in R6 Siege to try to run down the timer of the round using operators like Smoke, Goyo etc. and its often done against teams that take their time to set themselves up or try to bait out the defenders, leading them to do something stupid out of the sheer pressure you build by mostly just waiting for the clock to run down.

When i play For Honor when im trying to hard to read an opponent, i overthink the options the enemy have and my reactions to it, leading me to die pretty quickly sometimes. Sometimes i just take a deep breath, a big shot of gin, calm down, play more with instinct and kick my opponents ass as quickly as i died last round.

When i play Warhammer 40k i sometimes stop thinking, do something that might even be stupid at first glance for a round and then work with it next round, it works wonders sometimes.

I had something similar about 25 years ago on DooM. Well, all my group of players had it. Sometimes while turning too fast to really see anything our finger was pressing fire without any thought process. And most often than not it was a hit.

But DooM was a much simpler game than this and we all had way above 10k hours on it. (I have about 4k in DbD)

Its called alpha state. It happens when you do repetitive tasks over long periods of time. A good example is when driving a car and sometimes your brain completely switches off and 10 mins later you come to and realise you've been driving and can't really remember the last 10 minutes of driving. Apparently we do it automatically for approximately 10 minutes out of every hour in a waken state. It's basically our brain going into auto pilot to rest. We would also apparently go mad if it didn't happen, not sure why though. Oddly my brother has schizophrenia and I was explaining alpha state one day and he says he's never experienced it.

It makes sense. It's true that I when I drive my mind goes to think about various thing and I only notice the road at key points.

she isnt that hard as people make it out to be, obviously it takes some time to get used to her and a lot of time to master her but still doesnt explain why she has the lowest when there are many god nurse players getting 4k all the time?

There is no such thing as a god Nurse. The vast majority of players will lose matches quite often. (As proven by these stats.)

With more than 43K registered blink attacks I'm a decent Nurse. Over the years, many of my opponents have branded me "a god Nurse", which makes me smile. All they saw was a game where all my blinks and predictions were on point. What they will never see is all the other matches where I struggle an where survivors have an actual clue. In essence, it's only survivor bias, only applied to "victims".

And please don't be naive enough to take the strike of a professional streamer going against randoms as "proof".

It's easy to say she's not that hard. Have you tried? How far can you go before you get spanked?

More importantly: how consistent can you be?

And in essence it's that. Not everybody had the patience nor the skill to learn all there is to know to play an average Nurse. Let's not even speak about being a good one.

  • @nodforkiss said:

a lot of survivors are probably still take it personal that they get mori'd. They could also take the hook as less of a loss, basically hook = neutral loss, mori = embarrassing defeat.

    That'd be silly.

Mori are just often faster than grabbing, bringing to hook, hooking and then waiting for the whole execution.

Besides, if mori are becoming common, BHVR could sell additional mori animations : win win.

Its obvious anyway you look at it though that killer is overpowered and easy mode in the game, both anecdotally and statistically. And just becauae statistics dont always tell the whole story it does provide a good deal of evidence when combined with other (such as the amount of survivors giving up) that killer overall has become the easy assisted mode in the game ( yes even freddy.)

You can't understand the principle even with the explanations?

And it works for any player by the way.

I'm sorry I have no idea how to dumb it down even more than what was already done.

Kill rates are not a good indicator of strength. That is partially because MMR aims to put killers in a place where they can maintain a 60% kill rate no matter how strong or weak their killer is.

This also explains why every time a killer is buffed or nerfed, there is an immediate difference in their kill rate that ceases after some time. Only when kill rates remain consistently high or low for an extended period of time, do you even have a chance to draw some conclusion on the killer's strength from it.

The second problem is, that there are killers that are objectively more powerful than others, yet maintain a lower kill rate. Like Nurse. Meaning, while kill rates and killer strength generally have some correlation it is not as linear as "This killer has a high kill rate, so they are overpowered." or "This killer has a low kill rate, so they are weak."

It is so obvious (to many I hope) yet it looks at least some fail to understand the concept.

Too many variables to take into account?

I'm amazed. At least now I better understand some of the outlandish posts I see popping from time to time.

so you want to tell me, that all the changes that made the last year have changed nothing? that would be highly, highly unusual.

therefore, I am making the claim that the new data could concern the playerbase and that is why it is being held back.

You have to understand the difference between "not changed" and "not changed significantly".

  • I've rarely encountered toxic survivors this past year.

They are usually polite and very nice.

At most some are salty, usually from competitive teams that have lost. (My usual casual style switches to extremely competitive to answer to aggressive survivor plays)

Even "bullies" (that I love : they almost always die) tend to be polite.

Recently, at most, I played a very relaxed match were at least one survivor knew I was only caring about my rift (didn't even hit him and went straight for pumpkins). We saluted each-other several times during the "match". Since I didn't care about anything else than pumpkins I used the most broken and useless killer I have (Hag).

In the end game chat, that one survivor was cordial and another was commented at how I couldn't chase him when I didn't even try. Beginners tend to have a very bad read of the room. They also don't always understand that when a killer grabs them and let them go away, it's not to start a chase again. 🤭

    As I said : it's nothing bad.

  • If the EGC hasn't started (you didn't specify) I would look for hatch.

Otherwise I may go to the basement in hope I find some healing just in case.

Then I'll try to find the hatch.

If the EGC has started then I'll go for the other gate and open it right up to before the first light.

Then I may check if the killer isn't coming, then resume the opening and exit.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Chapter.

Currently, its content is not very impressive. However, on release it was the best and most unique chapter in Dead by Daylight's history. It came with a perfect killer, an interesting survivor and a nice map.

What they did was extremely accurate to the 2010 ANOES movie. Freddy's power was a perfect fit and, before the nerfs in 1.8.1, was well balanced: fun, unique and viable without completely removing counterplay. Quentin (despite the goblin memes) was meant to look tired, and sleep-deprived, which is necessary for an ANOES survivor. Not to mention the iconic Freddy's claw marks in his P3 skin. Their perks were really cool, especially Freddy's due to his synergy with the endgame.

Even Badham was better! After all there was only one, the problematic variants didn't exist. The map had the layout it was meant to have, and it had (still has, actually) lore details, such as the room Freddy lived in and his claw marks on the house's inner walls.

All of that combined with the fact that the chapter was released during a Halloween event, and if that isn't perfect for a horror icon such as Freddy then I don't know what is.

It is truly unfortunate that all of its content was poorly handled.

I remember how unique Freddy was.

I tried that but it wasn't until she hit 2nd stage that I found out what was happening. I chased the Sables but 2 just hung around and one stayed upstairs.

She was hooked right outside the house on Basham where Survivors can block you in the room with the generator. I felt so bad for her.

I sent in at least 5 griefing reports with recorded video evidence and nothing happened during 2v8.

I got a feedback report only recently for reporting a hacking Dracula.

I'm really disappointed that people are being allowed to grief and not face a temp ban. This is really out of control. I go out of my way to record, upload and report. It doesn't sound like much but it gets tiring.

    Reporting is great.

I've been griefed against once or twice in more than five years (Once the killer joined it with the 2 jerks. All reported with video evidence).

As killer, I rarely see griefing. Maybe once every few months.

So rest assured that, in the grand scheme of things, it's not that common.
