They could just open a random thread like they did with the lore questions and ask for balance advice. Then they can look at the majority and ask the community if they agree with the majority before they actually start to balance the game.
If you think "majority" opinion is a good way to balance the game, I think you are sorely mistaken.
They already know how people feel just by browsing the forum. People are very expressive with their suggestions and they've taken many of them. On the other hand, when it comes to hot button topics, it's clear that the loudest opinions are the most harmful or unproductive ones.
Yes. Browsing the forum and hearing the voices of a very small percentage of their player base. There is a reason people aren't seeing the changes they're bitching about on the forums, because most players aren't on here and totally content with the game.
Plus it's obvious that they are not intending on following majority voices, because the majority are composed of half-half or survivor main players. The loudest and most obvious set of players (review bombers) complained about the exhaustion changes and the devs have remained steadfast in their decision.
So it's less about what the COMMUNITY wants, it's about what some people in this sheltered forum wants. Unless by community, people mean disgruntled killer players.

It’s fair to say that the devs do not realize that the killer is supposed to be stronger than the survivor... Dead by Daylight should be asymmetrical, not symetrical. The devs have focused on nerfing killers day in and day out, but that’s because the survivors are louder. What nerfs are you referring to? Over the last six months, survivors have been nerfed far more than killers have.
Balance in this game requires for it to be unbalanced.
No, asymmetrical doesn't mean unbalanced. People need to understand this.
The killer should be intimidating through and through the game.
Do survivors not run or hide from you?
Even when the exits are powered, the killer shouldn’t have to turn themself in.
Because every killer drops what they're doing and sits in a corner once all gens are powered?
The hatch shouldn’t be a free escape.
It's not.
All strategies should be allowed (mentioning that with the upcoming camping nerf).
All strategies should not equally viable across all ranks. Some strategies take more effort than others, and camping is on the farthest on the low-effort side.
I can ignore all my teammates and play hyper immersed every single game, but that doesn't mean I am entitled to rank up. I can slug the crap out of survivors I find and heavily trap their bodies, and that doesn't mean I am entitled to rank up either.
Killers shouldn’t have to be a god tier nurse to have fun.
God tier Nurses are the standard for fun?
If you are intending to have a serious discussion about balance, overblown and dramatized exaggerations are not helping you make a case.
The only thing I can agree on is that killer needs to be stronger and less stressful, but it is impossible to actually talk about this when more than half of your post's content is a fantasy.

Bullying noobs for either side should be a big no no I agree with the ban
Wanting to play at lower ranks doesn't automatically mean bullying. The pipping system for survivor is so screwed up that it's easy to end up at a rank where it's absolutely impossible to enjoy the game.
Was watching a small streamer, plays DbD only occasionally, she's nevertheless rank 1. She played at rank 1 for 5 1/4 hours and escaped only twice during that time, once vs a meme Leatherface insidious-guarding his basement chest. Multiple times the killers had 4ks even before hatch was unlocked. Towards the end the only reason she kept playing despite being deeply frustrated was because she was hoping for one good match to finish off which never came. Despite playing hopelessly unsuccessful at rank 1, she didn't drop in rank either and when she dropped to 2, she was back at 1 the next game despite having a bad game.
I hate playing at higher ranks as well, mainly because the fellow survivors you get in solo queue are on the same skill level of those you get on rank 15 (red ranks didn't change anything), but the killers get better and better and fully perked out and totally tryhard I can't easily 1 vs 1 them anymore (which is necessary considering my teammates are mostly more of a burden than help). Moreover, almost every single game 3rd person got slugged to deny the 4th the hatch. Makes the last four minutes of the game terribly boring.
I am managing my own rank by simply playing at most one survivor game per day, and many days I don't play at all. Last season I managed to never get higher than 11. I would rather like to play more and not be forced into simply playing only one game every couple of days.
So you guys want to play against newbie killers, that chase you a little bit, but they are not able to catch you, just for your own enjoyment?
Maybe you are not trying to intentionally bully, but wanting to play at a lower rank compared to your own skill level just in order to have easier matches is like bullying for those lower rank players.
You guys really, really have to stop equating rank to skill level. Yes, it matters from like 15-20 because those are the genuine new player ranks, but once you get above that, while higher ranks will probably have a few more good players than not, it truly, truly does not make much of a difference. Everyone knows that equating your rank to skill in this game is something only new players do.
Unfortunately it's the closest metric we have to skill level. Even in spite of intentional deranking, inactivity, etc.
That's pretty much the point of ranking.
There are just far too many variables involved in the game to equate the two though. Its not the closest thing we have. It isn't anything. Its a measure of how much you play the game, which is not always correlated with skill at it.
There are many variables involved, but because we have nothing else, it is indeed the closest thing we have. Besides, the emblem system is quite thorough and the only thing it requires is honest attempts.
It is not a measure of how much you play the game. You can lose every game (intentionally or not) and stick at Rank 20. We literally have playtime recorded to measure that. And there are many of players that play a lot and are still hot trash.

Has it ever been considered to allow killers to filter their lobbies to block swf? That is, allow them to block swf of certain sizes (allow duos but not 4 stacks or block swf entirely). I'm sure certain players who don't mind swf would allow it to get more challenging gameplay but people at low ranks could avoid being stomped.
There is a natural penalty built into this system on both sides because queue times would be longer for larger swf groups and for killers that block swf.The concern is that nobody would want to play against SWF (because of its inherently broken nature in this game), so such a thing will probably never be implemented.

No, SWF is a garbage idea. This game was never balanced for the Survivors having voice comms.
Adding voice comms on top of every good perk Survivors have, plus needing to hit a survivor 3 times (minimum) to hook them (Making it a 12 on 1 when you think about it)Like how the game was never balanced around more than 3 killers. SWF has been out since the first month, relax.
Solos are also on the same team, if you didn't notice.
PLUS the fact that 90% of all SWF groups are toxic hell..Tell me how SWF is keeping this game alive? It's making this game complete and utter garbage for a Killer to play.
You're delusional and probably can't even tell which are SWF and which aren't.
But yeah, making half your playerbase hate your game is 'keeping it alive'?
Allowing toxic 12 year olds to troll the Killer because they would throw a temper-tantrum if they EVER lost is a 'good game'?This game is slowly dying of the cancerous SWF groups making no one want to play Killer because it's boring, stressful, and not-at-all fun. And after a garbage match, we get #########-talked by anyone we MIGHT have hooked.
The only problem is your perception and habit of pinning every sour game you have on SWF.
I would find you the statistics the devs have on SWF, but honestly, it's obvious that there's no point. If you think SWF are the cause of toxicity in DBD and that it would magically go away by deleting SWF, you are gravely mistaken.

Hello @witulo , let me clarify some things for you.We ban for DC
Yes, we are punishing players who are leaving games.
They are ruining the experience of 4 other players and that's unacceptable, whatever the reason behind it.Yes, there are fair reasons to leave games
Personal emergency? Hardware issue? Power surge? Game crash?
These are examples that are OUT OF THE PLAYER'S HANDS, they do not occur regularly and will not cause the player to show up on our list.Leaving games as an habit
We are punishing the HABIT of leaving games, the habit of ruining other player's experience.
The % we apply to the player's profile (game leaves / game played) is high enough for us to be confident in our processes and to know we are punishing the right players, the ones that made an habit of leaving. We are taking responsibility
You are mentionning that People play games to have fun , we agree with that statement. We are not saying our game is perfect, far from it, but most players are able to play without leaving and enjoy the challenge
We want these players to have a great experience, and for that, the leavers need to go.This is an absolute joke. You are punishing the habit of ruining other player's game experience? What do you call a new player being face camped and taunted in 4 of 5 matches? What do you call a rank 17 killer being forced to play an SWF with more than one rank 2-3 player in it because they have a low ranking friend? Those rank 2s commence to all but destroy the gameplay for the killer involved. You don't seem to give a rats azz about that. This is an absolute joke. I hate DC'ers as much as the next guy, but don't wave your morality flag around like you care about gameplay experience when you promote toxic play by others who outright admit to "..feeding off the salt" of others due to their toxic play. (Yes, I admit that many complain over stupid reasons, but when you have killers streaming how they love when a survivor starts in their aura and gets downed right away and then they get to face camp them while striking them over over - don't even pretend you care about that player's experience.)
The hypocrisy here is limitless.
It's almost as if the game has more than one problem they'd like to solve, and they started with the easiest and most egregious of them all....

Start the blind when the killer begins the pickup when they first touch the survivor instead of the end when they hit the shoulder, I believe I even have a video recorded of it somewhere on my PS4 if I’m not mistaken but I can tag a few well known people I play with on here if you want confirmation that I know what I’m talking about with flashlights.

You can actually fake it pretty well with Trapper and and Hag because using their power looks similar to pickup.
Facing a wall is 100% the best option and if you're aware of flashlights being in play, it's the only guaranteed option.
Perkwise, Lightborn makes it downright impossible to be blinded and Franklin's Demise gets rid of those nasty flashlights but requires you to actually hit. I find flashlights really rare since the pickup time was decreased.

Kinda silly to have up to half of the hooks practically worthless to Sabo, if they're trying to make Sabo into something useful again. If they expect people to hop off gens and spend time saboing hooks, then they need to make it rewarding or non-optional. This includes having Sabo apply to event objectives.Besides, I don't recall anyone up in arms to defend event gens against Ruin or Overcharge. 🙄

New players should not be facing Vets when trying to learn that game, never mind doing the Asian grind for bloodpoints and the RNG bloodweb rewards.

Sounds like a lot of complaining about nothing to me.I'm a survivor main that pours BP into killers before playing them too. Just cause I'm P3 doesn't mean I'm an amazing Spirit player. This just sounds like another case of unfounded paranoia.FYI, ranking is to judge skill, not how long or how much a player has played. Considering that you wiped the floor with them, it looks like it's working as intended. -
Report them if you're PC. Private your messages if you're on console. The vast majority of players don't ######### talk after the game and the people that do need to be put in check. As for teabagging at an exit gate, you will just have to ignore it and not let it get to you. It happens in every game with crouching and this is no exception.
-
D/Cing ruins the experience of four other people in the game. If you are a higher skilled player in an improper rank, you make the game unfair for the opposition. Even in games with casual matchmaking have a rating that cannot be avoided. The only difference is being able to see it.YOU might be having fun after deranking but that doesn't mean anyone else is. Not to mention screwing over 30% of people you run into. There should be a LFG system to find people to play with in KFY and ranked, but that's all it needs. Otherwise the queues would be crippled.
-
"Survivors should gen rush if you don't want killers to camp""Killers camp because survivors gen rush"Let's be real, people can get camped for any reason. There's no one stop solution because it's not about how survivors play, it's how killers feel. The only role a survivor has in getting camped is getting caught in the first place.
-
Also, you have to let all survivors farm equally and gain consent from them. If one survivor wants to attempt to play a real game and you work with the other survivors to smoke him out and farm him, it's bannable.

Survivor emblems were so "hard" that most survivors wouldn't be able to rank up and killers on high ranks wouldn't find any lobbies to fill. It was so hard, because survivors refused to change their playstyle. Devs changed the requirements to pip, and now I save pip if I survive 2 minutes as survivor. Now the devs which said that camping is a feature from the beginning, which removed face camping (survivors still claim it exists), introduced BBQ to reduce camping (survivors hate it), introduced MYC (survivors hate it) and never wanted to punish camping. Suddenly punish it, because survivors complain all the time about this unfair mechanic. They complained so much, that survivors now are even immune to hits, right after unhooking.
But sure, killers will once again adapt their playstyle. Like they did so often. And survivors will find something else to complain about.
Just remember, that survivors complained about killers not needing to kill to rank up.
Since when was I complaining? There is not one complaint in any of my posts on this thread. Half my responses to these silly camper complaints is just to tell them to continue camping. Thanks for your input..?
Oh. Shame campers are now being "discouraged" from camping. (Since campers cared about pipping, right?) My condolences.
Again, as we've both agreed to, only low tier trash killers will need to "once again" adapt. I don't suppose you are in that group. But I can see it if that's why you are upset.
Are you responding to me or are you just ranting?
So "only low tier trash killers will camp" is something worthy of a response? Like discussion wise?
Sometimes camping is the only correct thing the killer can do.
Don´t believe me? What if 2 or 3 survivors are hooked in the basement or next to each other? Should the killer go to a random gen and patiently wait, until they have been unhooked?
Survivors screwed up. Killer gets punished for doing his job. Or do survivors get punished if they stay close to a almost finished gen? Of course not. It´s their objective. Just like the killers objective is to kill.Ironic, considering that so much of your post is just whining about things no one has brought up at all.Acting like killers who camp at the hook without survivors around it is doing the right thing every time is disingenuous.Even during times when camping is the final thing to do, killers will not be depipping/safety pipping from this mechanic alone. If most of the game is you camping at the basement, then letting the other survivors effortlessly escape and you end up depipping for it (which is virtually impossible), then perhaps you **didn't** do the right thing.Killers are entitled to pip just for standing at a hook just as much survivors are entitled to pip just for walking through the exit gates. This game goes beyond "killer kills, survivor survives" and the emblem system has **always** proved that. Or maybe we are just not playing the same game. -
Knocks you down a couple of ranks.
Rank 1 to Rank 10. Rank 15 to Rank 17, I think. Etc.
If you're low rank, you won't be affected much. But sometimes it bugs out and doesn't reset you. Restart the game, keep playing, or message support if you didn't reset.

I don't really think it's needed, since drop downs are already easy to punish. It's weird to have no fall damage, but game mechanics shouldn't be made to be realistic.
It would give more of a reason to use BL, but I think it'll just end up being unnecessarily frustrating on a lot of maps.

Just camp and depip all you want. It'll mean HR will be less of a cesspool, and survivors will finally have a reason to pip up. Campers will have an excuse to camp and bully newbies and smurfs. Win win.
Do you REALLY think that high ranks will play ANY different?
No. You were the one implying this in your first post. Let me refresh your memory:

If the devs want to punish camping (being one of the features announced since the beginning), then let them.
They'll find out soon enough, that it was a terrible idea. When survivors on high ranks can't find lobbies, since ranking up as survivor is brain dead easy.I already stated in response to you that HR don't have campers to begin with, and thus nothing will change. And if protesting edgelords want to camp at HR (which they are probably not in to begin with), then they'll drop down to the cesspool where they belong.
Please don't put words into my mouth.

It's not a matter of making it less effective, it's a matter of providing incentive to leave the hook. At the moment, chases are the real big spender in terms of killer resources and a hook save can completely nullify your investment. Therefore, there is nothing to gain from ignoring the hook and protecting the gens. They have been nerfing chase for the last five patches. If you still do not see the benefit of leaving the hook, then it speaks for your skill as a player, not the design of the game.
The devs have been very kind for not directly touching camping as a whole.

There needs to be a rant section."Expert players aren't scared like beginners anymore! Why can't I just M1 them to death when they've won? Stupid devs! (insert overused meme)"

I've been harassed just today for playing stealthy. At Rank 1.

Do it.

I'd argue that hooking someone and then standing there as still as a pole isn't doing your objective, and the defence so many killers give as to why they camp the hook is "Theres survivors close" therefore you wont even incur the point reduction, thus making this a moot point.Your objective is to kill survivors.
After you hooked a survivor you have 3 options:
1) Stay near the hook and secure the sacrifice -> you will have to give up some gen time and hope to turn the game around after the (preferably first) survivor is dead
2) Go protect the gens -> you won't be able to regress all repairs the survivors have made but they will be able to rescue the hooked survivor and heal him, completely nullifying the time you invested in chasing and hooking.
3) Try to catch another survivor -> you may be able to start a snowball effect but you will still lose gen time and invested chase time (the hooked survivor gets rescued)Basically, the most solid investment is option 1. If you hook someone at 5 gens there is no reason to leave. If you hook someone at 1 gens there is no reason to leave.
Considering most survivors, especially at high rank and especially SWF will try to rush the hook regardless of you camping, you may even get chases, hits and additional downs by camping the hook.
In my experience, playing at R1, I get more BP and more kills by camping than when I don't simply because survivors are over-altruistic.
Out of curiosity, do you think matches are too short?
Nope, they seem to extend a lot when I camp. If I don't, the gens pop like mad. The moment I camp someone, gen progress stops.
I don't have an issue with camping, I'm ok enough to hold my own without doing it, but when it comes to end game then sometimes securing that kill is expected.
I don't however like the thought of camping at the start, it promotes horrible gameplay from both sides, which is why, if it's end game, the points wont be much as youll be doing it for lesser time, presumably, but it's probably only really punishing if you do it from the start, you're the exact reason this update is coming, not survivors.
You are free to like and dislike whatever. Tunneling and camping is the most effective way to play right now.
Let's be honest. They'd rather lower emblems than actually making tunneling and camping less effective. They want killers to be able to choose to camp.
And god knows that there would be a revolt if they actually nerfed it.
The devs already know they deliberately allowed camping to be a viable tool, without it contributing anything positive to this chase based game.

Vampire?

There are many reasons why people camp. The biggest two being they can and it works.
-
Play with friends. Game's more fun when you're throwing pebbles at each other.

Looks great! I really like the blindness ideas. Survivors never got this effect.
@Visionmaker I agree, the game needs to be darker for survivors, but brighter for killers. Not the other way around, like Freddy's vision. One of the biggest reasons why I dislike playing Killer over Survivor is because it hurts my eyes.
More LoS blockers and stealth options (hiding under objects, dumpsters, or crawl spaces) need to be added, while bullshit natural camouflage needs to be addressed. There is no skill in simply blending into the floor.
And yeah, it's a big shame that Freddy is gimped by his own power.

SoylentPixie said:To be fair, it should be habit for survivors to take down unlit totems to prevent NOED. So not having them lit up wouldn't be all that big of a deal. It would also give hex users a fairer chance instead of loosing their totems less than a minute into the game.
And I agree but it would still kill off players as most would dc as soon as someone at full health is insta downed
Why won't you break all the totems out there, if they're always unlit, and totem perks are meta (though, I doubt it). Searching for all totems takes ~80 seconds for one survivour, which is much faster if 2~3 will do it. It's not that hard.
No BP if you're maxed out in Boldness.

Every time I down someone after a good chase / mindgamey Hag trap:

Good editing. Exactly what I would like to see added to the game.
They definitely need to enhance the experience in DBD.
Personally, I think survivors slowly be debuffed while hiding/moving in dark areas as well (Fear: have louder breathing, more erratic and noticeable idle movement, and eventually screaming or panicking noises gradually over time) and killers have slightly better night-vision. After all, darkness is one of the natural things in life we fear, and killers should be what lurk in it. Not that stealth needs a nerf.

I don't think it's fair if the killer quits a match we lose a pip. A killer just quit my match and I lost a pip for it. You should keep your pip the way it is not lose one. If anything we should gain a pip because they quit a match. If it's internet connection then they don't but if they quit then they should lose and pip and the survivers should gain 1
You don't lose a pip, if it says that you did lose a pip when the killer disconnects then it's a visual bug.
Depends on how they d/c.
You can still lose pips. Had it happen to me just two days ago, and everyone playing with me confirmed it. Hard not to notice three people dropping down from Rank 1.
I never had this happen to me but, I'll take your word. Don't you get Iridescent Unbroken, bronze Benevolent, and if you touch a generator for at least 10 seconds that's a bronze Lightbringer! That's enough to secure a safety right?
This usually doesn't happen, but TBH it's hard to track. I usually don't track my pips so it's hard to prove anything, but it's way easier to notice instant drops from Rank 1 to Rank 2.
It was near the beginning of the match (say 2-3 minutes in), and it happened just as the Huntress downed a teammate. I don't remember my emblems, but I definitely got zero in Benevolence and near zero in Light Bringer. That makes Zero/Bronze Lightbringer, Iri Unbroken, Zero Benevolence, and Bronze Evader. But three of us definitely did not safety pip. My group of friends tease each other for depipping, so it was impossible to miss.
Since the Huntress d/c'd right after downing someone and my friend didn't exactly put up a fight, I figured it was a real D/C for sure, not a Leave Match situation.
