That's understandable. What are your thoughts when survivors say "Well the person slugged basically aren't allowed to play the game, they aren't getting any points slugged, etc"? :o
I think that's bad game design. I honestly don't know how game developers thought "Let's take players and sideline them for minutes at a time during which they're not able to do anything and not gaining points! They'll love that!" Killers have two main things in their kit to slow the game down: hooking and slugging. Both take the survivor out of the game. But killers can't just not do those things, the game is designed so that they are required to hook and slug in order to slow the game down, earn points, and get kills. Killers who never slug are playing very nice and limiting their own options to their detriment for the benefit of the survivors.
Players have no control over how the game was designed; they have to play within its boundaries. If players don't like the mechanics, they can tell the devs those mechanics aren't fun, but the issue is the game itself and not the players who use the given mechanics.

Theres a clear defintion of "holding the game hostage" I'm basically asking your opinion on the matter and whether you agree or disagree with that definition. Thanks tho.
Well, that's a slippery slope, it leads to misunderstandings.
I will say, I don't find being slugged for the 4k fun, but it's something the devs have made necessary due to how they designed their game. It would be extremely unfair to punish players for adapting to their game's mechanics. There are challenges and achievements that require killing all four survivors, so punishing killers for trying to do exactly that wouldn't make sense.
-
"Holding the game hostage" isn't an opinion thing, it's a defined reportable/bannable offense. Slugging for the 4k is not holding the game hostage, and hiding because the killer is slugging for the 4k is not holding the game hostage. Both of you have options that could bring the match to a close (he could hook the slugged person and if/when they die the hatch spawns) but are choosing to continue on.
As survivor, you can choose what to do. You can hide and try to wait for the other person to bleed out. Sometimes I do that. If I just want out, I'll make noise notifications and give myself up to the killer so I can move on to a new match.
-
If the player is on Switch, 99% chance it's not on purpose. It's not uncommon for DbD on Switch to crash at the end of the match. Frustrating as [BAD WORD]ing hell.

Seems like a bug? because I am damn sure it stays off on Steam.
It's never stayed off on PS4 ever. I think I even complained about this before, but it's hard to remember with all the more gameplay-hurting bugs there are. Either way, originally intended or not, it seems to be a "feature" on console. Yay us.
-
Switch didn't get the most recent update and so can't cross-play with the rest of the platforms. I'm not burning a damn thing if I can't share it with my friend.
(I'm going to remain upset about this for a long time. BHVR has two events a year, Anniversary and Halloween. Consoles got screwed during the Anniversary. Then they follow it up with a Blood Hunt, the first time we've had one in a long time. Did they really have to majorly screw up things for Switch players twice in a row? During one of their super-freaking-rare Blood Hunt events?! Seriously, when was the last time they had a Blood Hunt? And when was the last time a platform was separated out from cross-play?! Ugh, typing this out makes me even more upset at how they've handled all this.)

I'm pretty much neutral on most of the faces, but some of them do look different and I don't understand enough about art to know why. I really wish we could find someone who draws portraits professionally to analyze the before and after and diagnose why the characters look different in the updated version and what could be changed to make them look more similar to the originals.
This isn't a demand to change them more -- I'm willing to accept them as they are. I just think it would be interesting to understand what about them looks so different.
In a lot of cases, they made the faces longer. The longer the face, the older the characters look. Lengthening philtrums, accentuating nasolabial folds, making female chins more masculine, thinning their lips, they did so much wrong it's baffling.
Faces are measured in millimeters, so changes that are very slight have a huuuuge impact on appearance. You don't have to change much to make a face look nearly unrecognizable.

because for me (on steam) it actually is forever. Never had to set it again and I deactivated it very early on.
I'm on PS4 Pro. It stays off for the session, not forever. It always returns to Autoplay on.

I activated two yellow glyphs while in chase with the killer because I'm me and after I got hit and downed I went back and the glyph wasn't there so maybe it moves, but I completed the challenge and can't fiddle with it anymore.
Yeah, the Yellow Glyph moves. I failed the first skill check on my second Glyph match and thankfully it didn't move too far away, I was able to find and complete it.
I wish DbD had a little aside Tome with some small challenges (the Glyphs and the Canker) that could be selected and done for a few extra Bloodpoints without ever "completing" and becoming disabled. Because yeah, I'd like more chances to mess around with the Yellow Glyph.
I actually have one Red Glyph challenge and one Visceral Canker challenge from previous tomes that I've never finished just so I can select them and have them spawn in matches.

I thought about maining Nemesis, I P3'd him and everything. I just never touched him since
I really enjoy using his tentacle, and I like the zombies. I know the zombies are dumb, they get stuck on the environment all the time, sometimes they bug out and just stand in place, but... they bring me joy.
-
I did one of these in a match against the Doctor. The skill checks moved around the screen.
I managed to do it, but goddamn I felt like I had a heart attack in the process.

I'm on console. Right now, the two killers I find to be the most fun are Blight and Nemesis. Both are very different from each other.

I'm simply saying that every Killer as of lately has been trash which is 1000% true and it's not like I'm saying that they need to stop playing the game and more learn to play better. If you Tunnel, Camp, and Slug in any way shape, or form clearly show you haven't learned enough to not do a trash playstyle because in no way is it fun or fair to either side. Which if they keep playing that way and they rank about going up in rank then later down the road it will become a problem for them as a Killer.
Now to you saying oh Tell BeHavior people have been for quite some time when it started to be a problem in the game and they ignore players who do play Survivor and the ones who Survive with Friends and the fact of the story is this game is completely Killer sided because any and I mean any Killer Main makes a complaint then they do whatever they say and fix or make an update to the game as for an example one of the Devs in a stream talked about how they are planning to remove the Mori Offerings and you will be able to Mori whenever you want to and as a Killer player myself that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard as well as weakening Survivors more by nerfing some of their perks and I also play Survivor as well and that also sounds pretty stupid so I can not trust BeHavior when it comes to fixing anything or adding something to help Survivors and the ones who Survive with Friends.
Now to your last statement IDK if that is a gab at you guessing how I personally play the game as Survivor or just as a general statement about all Survivors but to clarify about the way I play but I am far from Bad at the game to where I can not lose or loop a Killer because I practiced with many of people who helped me learn the game and how to with my best of my ability to avoid them with Pallets and Windows shot even ways to hug trees and rocks to be able to same myself. The only way 9 times out of 10 when I go down it is because I help my teammates who are being Tunneled, Camped, and Slugged because I find helping my team shows that they will come help me when I do need it which happens a lot
this game is completely Killer sided because any and I mean any Killer Main makes a complaint then they do whatever they say
If that were true, Blight's collision wouldn't be broken for months, Nurse's blinks wouldn't be broken for years, the hatch wouldn't even exist, Undying would still be in its original form, etc. etc. Your statement is incorrect. The devs try to balance for both sides. I'm not saying they accomplish it, but they certainly don't only listen to one side.
you will be able to Mori whenever you want
That wasn't what they said. They said it'd be part of gameplay and be something that killers could work towards without requiring an offering. We don't know how. We don't even know if they'll actually do it, because there are many things they've said they're "working on" which never come back up ever again.
Hooks are a really stupid and unfun mechanic anyway. A death animation every time with survivors being able to "resurrect" each other would be a lot more fun (other games have that, but we never will). Having to burn an offering just to have a cool kill scene, something that's a staple in horror, makes no sense.
IDK if that is a gab at you guessing how I personally play the game as Survivor or just as a general statement about all Survivors
It had nothing to do with survivors. It was a general statement about people on these forums. I see forum posts from both survivors and killers about how they're not having fun in this game. A lot of times, their complaints or suggested solutions come off as vindictive/punishing rather than healthy for the game. You've been calling the people who disagree with you trash at playing killer, which comes off as more frustrated/angry/vindictive than helpful. Nothing I've said has anything to do with your playstyle. It's not pertinent to this discussion. Unless I'm playing survivor with you, how you play really doesn't matter to me.

Euw. This is definitely the mark of someone who 1. doesn't understand hairstyles, and 2. should never be allowed to touch faces.
I hate that they changed the hairstyles and hair colors on a bunch of cosmetics. They made so many things worse. Very rarely do people buy cosmetics because they don't like them and want them changed. No one asked for this.

@Pilot said:
What made you play DBD on Switch despite all of its flaws & issues?
I understand other games on Switch, but why DBD?
My friend bought it because cross-progression was supposed to be coming out so he could play both handheld when traveling (which was when he bought it) and on Steam when at home. But then cross-progression got pushed back. And now, to make matters worse, there's no cross-progression and Switch has been segregated from the rest of the platforms so they have no cross-play, can't work on the Rift, and don't get the Greek charms.
When a game comes out on a platform, it should work on that platform. When a company can't get the game to work properly, they should stop selling it and issue refunds. BHVR hasn't stopped selling it and hasn't issued refunds, the game isn't old it only came out on Switch late 2019, so the game should be fully supported and work.
-
Getting an external SSD for my PS4 Pro fixed the issues. I got one weeks ago, and the newest 5.1.0 update did not make performance worse for me. It's an expensive purchase just to fix this one game, though.
(I also play the Warhammer game Necromunda, and in the very first mission there was this one part where it had a lot of freezes/frame drops due to I guess the number of enemies that spawn. The SSD totally fixed that. It wasn't a game-breaking issue that I would've purchased a new drive just to fix, but it's a nice bonus and makes me feel a little better about purchasing a goddamn SSD just to fix [BAD WORD]ing DbD.)
-
I burn cakes when I play with my friend so we can both get the benefit.
He's on Switch, which can't do cross-play right now. I'm on PS4. I'm too busy being bitter about not getting to play the event with him to burn cakes.
-
Playing Nemesis, I get frame drops when a survivor uses the antidote.

Then learn and get better at the game just like them watch youtube videos on how to play without having to use those cheap tactics because at that point no one is having any fun but with the fact of me playing with friends and using comms doesn't mean that we are talking tactics we don't even really say who the killer because we know what the sounds are that they make and can make out who it is without any issues so if you're playing the game like garbage then again either learn or don't play killer
You can't dictate how other people play. I mean, you can come on the forum and demand it all you want, but most of the players you're facing aren't even on the forum to read your posts. Even if they were on the forum, they wouldn't change the way they play just because you asked them to in a very impolite manner.
If you want change, tell BHVR to change the way their game is structured. It's not good game design that tunneling a survivor out is the best way to slow down gen repair. There are lots of tactics that aren't fun for either side, but the game encourages people to adopt certain playstyles. You're claiming pretty much every killer is playing a certain way, which suggests the problem isn't the players.
The answer isn't to tell players they're trash because you don't like how they play. The answer isn't to punish people who play in a way you don't find fun. The only way to change players' behavior is to change the game and the tactics required to win.

I doubt they could enable it for all platforms except one without more problems lmfao. even if they could you would only starts eeing hook suicides again anyways with them saving their free daily dc or two for those times they're about to get hook farmed by some troglodyte before they can die due to the new struggle snuggle bs on 2nd stage. After the second or third time they would already be onto a different game before they had time to care. We all know this deep down. Don't hate the player, hate the game the saying goes.
Switch didn't receive the 5.1.0 update and thus can't play with cross-play on; it's effectively separated from all the other platforms. So, it's very probable BHVR can actually enable DC penalties for all the other platforms except Switch. However, it seems that the new 5.1.0 update may not have fixed crashes, anyway, and if the crashes aren't fixed then DC penalties aren't coming back for anyone.
-
They ruined my main Kate.

Yes, this occurs when someone DCs at the very beginning of the match before the zombies spawn. When that happens, the zombies never spawn. I have two videos of this happening and meant to post them but hadn't gotten around to it yet.

I will certainly think twice now before paying for AC only cosmetics. Not only is effectively a waste of whatever 1080AC is in your local currency, it also means you no longer have an exclusive cosmetic. If I see Santa Clown, I know that person has paid for that with real money, they probably only have a single paid cosmetic for clown. As soon as slightly different shade of red Santa Clown is released, all Santa Clown players can no longer show off their exclusive.
Please BHVR, when you give Santa Clown away for free, please make it green or blue!
(I haven't checked that Santa Clown is AC only, but I think it is)
Against expectations, Santa Clown is actually available for Iridescent Shards. I have the weapon but not the rest of the outfit; the letter opener is just my fav, for some reason.
Yeah, I've bought very few cosmetics with actual currency, in part because I'm on console and I started putting as little money into the game as possible once I realized optimization is probably never coming.

This was Auric cells only, so he couldn't of got it with shards, if he knew he would never of paid money for such, this recolouring stuff has only happened when the rift began it seems laziness and i am not sure i am willing to spend money now, i bought the new elodie outfit but how do i know it isn't now going to be recycled and re coloured in a new rift.
I just meant that like Spirit has a school girl outfit, and when it was released it had two Iridescent Shard versions and an Auric Cells only version. I didn't mean that there was a recolor available for Hillbilly, just that BHVR loves doing recolors and has loved recolors ever since the shop opened. Then, the Rift came around and they do even more recolors.
Huntress's Grim Matsuri outfit, which was Auric Cells only, got a Rift recolor a while back. Doing Rift recolors of Auric Cell only outfits isn't new for BHVR; I guess it just hadn't been noticed by everyone yet.
i am not sure i am willing to spend money now, i bought the new elodie outfit but how do i know it isn't now going to be recycled and re coloured in a new rift.
You must've started responding before my edit went through, but yeah, I edited my previous post to end with:
"We are all learning that spending money on this game is ill-advised., whether it's because of console performance, because they change our favorite faces/cosmetics after we've bought them, because things go on sale within days (this past Halloween), or because they release free recolors."
So, yeah, we've both basically said the same thing. I'd laugh but it's only funny in a sad kind of way.
-
I'm not saying it's okay, but for a long time now the shop has received two or three versions of a single outfit with one or two being available with Iridescent Shards and the last being Auric Cells only. So, this isn't out of the ordinary for them, and since its first iteration a lot of the Rift has been made up of recolors of shop outfits.
We are all learning that spending money on this game is ill-advised., whether it's because of console performance, because they change our favorite faces/cosmetics after we've bought them, because things go on sale within days (this past Halloween), or because they release free recolors.

I hate trying to play him. Aiming when playing as ranged killers is just nasty in this game, the lack of controller settings is very noticeable. His recoil/spread makes him absolutely miserable on a controller.
I wouldn't mind just running around hitting survivors with the bat (I like the way he twirls it after), but him being a 110% killer sorta ruins that.

I'm not out here trying to demand a refund, because I know we're not going to get a refund, that's wasted breath/typing. But her new face is bad, and people have every right to be unhappy with it.
Oh you can be as unhappy as you want, I don't care, it's your opinion. Provided you recognise that other people have the right to like the change, and demanding a refund because of your opinion while ignoring the opinions of others really ain't it chief, we have no issues here.
Cosmetics exist for their appearance only. People buy cosmetics because of how they look. So, when the way those cosmetics look are changed, then the entire reason the person bought them has been taken away. The point of this isn't to say, "We deserve a refund." The point of this is to say that cosmetics' appearances shouldn't be heavily changed. That includes faces on head cosmetics.
To do with cosmetics yeah I kinda agree but again, you allow BHVR to do exactly this because you agree to their EULA while playing DBD. It's not the most saintly move but it should've been expected because of that clause.
To do with Kate herself, not entirely because some purchase her for perks and some just to have all survivors.
Just because BHVR can change something doesn't mean they should.
This one I agree to, and had they made her closer to the original I still would probably like it while allowing them to have their higher-poly models with animated, more experessive features.
you allow BHVR to do exactly this because you agree to their EULA while playing DBD. It's not the most saintly move but it should've been expected because of that clause.
This is specifically what I'm referring to when I say "Just because BHVR can change something doesn't mean they should." Yeah, they can do it, but every customer who gave them money for cosmetics and doesn't like these changes just got burned. People have a long memory. Next time that player sees a cosmetic they like, before they press that "Purchase" button, they're going to remember how BHVR changed cosmetics they bought in the past.
There needs to be a certain amount of trust between a company and its customers, and when BHVR does something like this it breaks that trust. People were trusting that, because a cosmetic's only purpose is to look a certain way, that look wouldn't be changed; customers were trusting BHVR to respect their purchase, and BHVR didn't.
People are frustrated because they have no recourse, they have no access to the thing they originally bought; they only have access to this new changed version which isn't what they originally purchased. Frustration is to be expected.
Maybe BHVR will continue to listen to the feedback and try to make characters' faces more faithful to the originals. I'm not hopeful or anything, but maybe they'll surprise me.

So you don't see the hypocrisy in demanding your opinion be heard and your dislike of something compensated, while in the same breath dismissing anyone who disagrees with you? Lmfao
It's like buying a PS4 controller and receiving an xbox controller if you also have an xbox.
No, it's like buying a PS4 controller and receiving a PS4 controller. After a while this PS4 controller is upgraded to a newer model, which functions but you don't like the change, however the previous models aren't sold anymore. Is it amazing? No. Is it the end of the world and you should demand compensation from Sony? Also no.
I also don't see why people being angry over her change is such a taboo thing to you.
I'm not angry over you disliking her change. I'm "angry" over you asking for a refund and then demanding compensation over your opinion.

Eyes are narrowed, nostrils flared, eyebrows angled. All this changes her expression from slightly smiling, calm "hopeful songbird", to various degrees of annoyed/angry.
I'm not asking for the devs to revert the changes. I just want them to do what they said was their stated goal.
^ This. This is what I want. I want Kate's updated face to be more similar to the original; I want it to feel like the same person. This new Kate is older and angrier and is not faithful to her original design and personality.

Hmm... this is definitely something new I never noticed before, first time today.
It's actually very noticeable so I am a bit surprised that others aren't jumping on this thread, unless it isn't happening for everybody.
For me there is a CLEAR delay that actually makes it incredibly difficult to track a survivor in chase all the sudden. I've lost so many survivors in matches today in spots I normally never would. I wouldn't necessarily bother mentioning it but I think it sort of game-breaking.
I'm on PS4, and I've seen other people on console say they have problems with scratch marks, too. It was a long time back it was last talked about, though. I don't remember if it started with dedicated servers or if the problems with scratch marks happened before them.
-
Kate's face is a huge downgrade to say the least. It makes me very sad.
I'll probably mostly be using Leon, now.
-
I've had problems with scratch marks for so long now, I just thought it was a feature at this point. They don't appear at a consistent rate, sometimes seeming very delayed, and there are often gaps where the scratch marks completely disappear. I lose a lot of distance in chases when a survivor breaks LoS because the scratch marks are hell to track.
-
Yeah, it's annoying that the EULA covers this. I mean, we knew it when purchasing these things, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. It's one thing to change gameplay-affecting stuff, like killer powers. It's another to change cosmetics. Cosmetics are exclusively visual. People buy them for how they look, there is no other reason to buy them. But now how they look has been changed.
My opinion is just that how they look should not have been changed. Just because BHVR can change something because they're covered by the EULA doesn't mean they should change something. When something can only be purchased for one reason, that one thing shouldn't be able to be significantly altered. That's bad business and it's disrespectful to the customers who gave their money for the product. It breaks trust.

If it's a s good as the patch I've gotten, then it could simply be a matter of days before it returns. They just need to be sensible and wait for the data to come in confirming it'll be fair to do so.
People are saying that the RPD map still causes crashes. DC penalties returning may take longer than expected. We shall see.

This is why I just recycle my Auric Cells for every Rift. I always complete the Rift, anyway, so I just buy the Premium Pass once I hit tier 70 and get all the Cells right back. The majority of stuff in every Rift is disappointing, but there might be one or two things that are nifty.
I saw Nurse has an upcoming red dress in the Rift. I like red. Too bad I don't like playing as Nurse. I'm weird, though, I like dressing up the characters, even the ones I don't play as.

I play on an Xbox1x which already has a SSD of sorts in it. I believe Pulsar tried using an external SSD on his 1x and saw little difference.
If a SSD helps out our PlayStation cousins that's wonderful, but kinda doing the devs work for them a little imo.
I got an external SSD to fix the game's performance on my PS4 Pro a couple weeks ago. My friend says I should demand some Legendary skins from BHVR to cover the cost, because yeah, I bought a new piece of hardware just to make up for their bad code. It helped majorly with the stuttering and frame drops; it doesn't help with the loud fans due to the game's fog effects, because that's a different issue entirely.
So, BHVR, let me know where I can email my receipt for some reimbursement in the form of cosmetics. That seems more than fair.
[sigh] Sometimes this game makes me want to cry. Why did they release DbD on consoles? It's just pain. Their PS4 and Xbox releases weren't great, and then they went ahead and put it out on the Switch. The Switch! Why?! The Switch is now so broken that it's not even allowed to cross-play with the other platforms, and because cross-progression has been delayed so ridiculously much Switch players are just [BAD WORD] out of luck. ffs.
Sorry, ranting. Need to vent. I imagine most console players are ready to explode and need to vent at this point, really.

I'm supposed to get 30 knife hits on console in a single match? hahahahahaha yeah, that's never happening.

They disabled cross-play with Switch, and I'm on PS4, so I won't be able to play with my friend for god only knows how long, certainly for the duration of the upcoming Bloodhunt and beyond. Does that count? Not sure what me playing exclusively killer and my friend not playing DbD at all during this cross-play-off time proves, but it fits your requirements.

do you clean your ps4 regularly?
I hate this question.
This isn't directed at you, sorry, I just want to vent for a moment. Sony designed the PS4 to stay closed. They are such [BAD WORD]s for that, because electronics do need to be cleaned: the dust builds up inside, it's inevitable. And sometimes thermal paste needs to be replaced. But Sony was like, "No, [BAD WORD] you," to its customers. ffs.
I have a Battlefront II edition PS4 Pro, and I've never opened it up. I don't know how to do it safely. It wasn't designed to be opened up, and that is really [BAD WORD]ing annoying. [BAD WORD]ing Sony.
I will say, though, DbD is the only game that turns my PS4 into a jet engine. The fog effects specifically. It's so dumb to hear the fans get loud on the killer and survivor selection pages. They're menu screens, they don't need special effects that tax the system! The fans are loudest on the main menu where it's all "press x to continue." I'm afraid to leave it on that screen because I worry my PS4 will actually overheat.
The fog effects in-game looks so bad, too, like that stupid rolling black fog on the corn maps that adds nothing to the aesthetic. The ground looks like it's intermittently smoking, but in a really dumb way, like the smoke is confused about its own physics.

That bugged out arm and shoulder is pretty disturbing, actually. 😱

I had put so much BP into her, and now her face is messed up... 😢 Even if it's a bug, who knows when it'll be fixed.
Kate is messed up on purpose, Jill is messed up on accident... My girls just can't catch a break.

Her face is bugged
Oh my god, I found it... ugh. She looks bloated. I had been dumping my BP into her, too. I really hope this is a bug that gets fixed quickly and she returns to her original look. She was perfect before.
