  • They need to fix their fog. I've seen Red Dead Online have crazy thick fog: it looks good, greatly hinders visibility, and my PS4 Pro is silent as the grave. DbD has a small tiny amount of fog that adds nothing to the "horror atmosphere" and doesn't really hinder visibility, and the fans on my PS4 go absolutely nuts, loud as jet engines. If BHVR can't fix the fog, they need to get rid of it. I don't really care which they do as long as their visual effects stop taxing consoles for no good reason.

  • Yeah, no. My friend on the Switch had his game crash immediately upon being downed just yesterday. Let's not punish players extra for the game being broken. The game actually is more likely to crash upon being downed, being hooked, and having certain status effects applied (so upon being hit). And as killer on the Switch, the game sometimes crashes at the end of a match.

  • The problem isn't the graphics. It's poorly optimized code. Loading all the killer and survivor assets into every match. Memory leaks. And something about their visual effects (like fog and smoke) is borked, because they're causing the console to overheat. Even running at just a couple degrees too hot can cause a drop in performance, like stuttering and what not. Plus it damages the hardware.

And wrong opinion since most games even much more demanding ones work perfectly well on last gen.

If you sell a game on certain platform it should work. Period.

Releasing dbd on swith is the most disgusting thing they ever did imo. If they couldn't make it work well enough they shouldn't have released it in the first place.

I feel sorry for people playing on switch.

I agree, them releasing the game on Switch ticks me off. People paid money for this, and iirc the game is for some reason more expensive on the Switch. There are definitely fewer sales on the Switch. Pay extra for a worse experience.

Yeah that's so strange. My regular PS4 has problems, but not like that. That sucks. I'm sorry. It makes the game unplayable. I've had to turn it off because of all the dropped frames, but if I had all of that I'd want to throw it out the window lol

The loud fans suck, but I did fix the framerate issue by getting an external SSD, so at least it runs smoothly. The Switch version runs silently but with low FPS, frame drops, and PS2 graphics. The Switch is so much worse: survivor is difficult and killer is unplayable.

I have no hope for the Switch version; my friend only got it because PC cross-progression was supposed to already be live by now. Once that goes live we'll buy it on Steam and only use the Switch for travel.

Check to see if you're getting a dust blockage (inside the machine, too). Since DBD makes fans run harder anyway, any blockage would make it worse. I hope it's something simple like that, because I don't get why your pro would have such a harder time than my regular PS4. That's got to be so annoying for you. Either way, I get your point. DBD causes the console systems to run harder regardless of if the state of the fan. Optimization has gotten noticeably worse for me since Nemesis (not as bad as it was, but still worse than it used to be).

I actually did open the PS4 Pro up and clean it. I used an air can and q-tips, and I got out as much dust as I could (there was barely any in there). No change.

The fans aren't audible with any other game. I was playing Dying Light yesterday, huge city world, it was night and raining and lightning and I was throwing fireworks and shooting zombies with lasers setting them on fire... all kinds of graphical craziness was going on with 20+ zombies on my tail, and the fans were silent. iirc, the Pro can run games in 4k, it's no slacker. This is a DbD issue, through and through.

  • @AshInTheTallGrass said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2449451#Comment_2449451

    Ah, that's unfortunate.

I have a PS4, and my fan only runs when I first turn on the game if I don't press X. After that, no fan, but I've been getting lots of frame drops during skill checks, unhooking, vaulting, and dead hard. Like with you, it seems to worsen if I keep playing.

Like you said, maybe it would work better on PS4 and X-Box than it did Switch. I hope so.

Yeah, it used to be only on the "press x" screen and the offerings screen. Then the Rift/Tome area was added, and that was also awful. Then the problem spread to the campfire menu/lobby screens and super-foggy maps. And now the fans just run most of the time.

It went a couple years being only the "press x" and offerings screens. I thought it was annoying then, but boy do I miss those times. And I worry BHVR doesn't understand what a big problem this actually is. If the console is overheating, that 1. Hurts performance, and 2. Destroys the hardware. But they have ignored reports about the loud fans for years.

  • Unfortunately, downgrading the graphics on the Switch hasn't helped the game run smoother at all.

My friend bought and installed the game on the Switch right after RE was released. It ran fine. Every update since has worsened the performance, including the one that has made DbD look like a PS2 game.

I'm pretty sure DbD has memory leaks. When I'm playing the game on Switch or PS4, after I play a bunch of matches the game starts freezing up when the match ends and goes to the stats screen. The fans also get louder and louder on my PS4 Pro. The fans are pretty much constantly running loud when I play DbD these days; they aren't audible at all for any other game. It's either an issue with a memory leak or their visual effects are poorly implemented, because their fog/smoke effects have always caused the PS4 fans to go nuts. It's just gotten so, so much worse lately.

There's also the problem of them loading all their killer and survivor assets into every match, which probably hurts performance more than anything.

I'm not knocking the idea of being able to choose the visual quality. Maybe it would help.

I wish it had helped on the Switch. Unfortunately, BHVR disabled the Switch's function of recording video (which also doesn't seem to have improved performance), so I can't show just how bad it is.

  • Trophies can be changed if they become literally impossible. The Legion's trophy was changed when his power was updated. Huntress's can't be changed because it's not technically impossible, unfortunately.

  • Console performance. Lack of cross-progression.

And matches go [BAD WORD]ing awful every time I or my friend burn a Sacrificial Cake. I'm earning less than when I burn nothing. I'm trashing the rest. I'll just use up my Escape Cakes before prestiging.

  • Yes. Switch has a 10 character limit, so my friend can't play as "Alessa Gillespie" when he's playing as Cheryl with the Alessa skin. 💔

And I can't change my name at all on PlayStation. No fun allowed.

  • Wait, is this referring to strafing after sending out the whip to get a little more side-action? 'Cause I like that, it's something I can do on console. I use it a lot to correct my aim; I even have to use it when striking zombies, because I apparently can't tell where the exact center of my TV screen is.

I hope it's not unintended. It getting patched out would suck.

I never told anyone to stop posting (I even told you guys to continue), just that I'm sure the devs are aware of the problems. I'm glad you guys have came up with solutions, but the majority of posts are just the same thing over and over. Again, feel free to keep posting. I'm not annoyed or anything. Just sharing my 2 cents.

A lot of posts are the same thing because people want to vent. And this is a good place to do it, this thread, because others share their frustration and we all know we're not alone, it's not just us.

Sometimes I want to literally scream, and complaining here is better than starting a new thread. Sharing my experiences does help release the frustration.

That's exactly it, thanks! Are you sure it's expensive? From what I seen on that thread, the SSD cable is around $10 I believe.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2439937#Comment_2439937

Sure, show me how to get thousands of dollars in a few days/weeks and I'll be glad to do so.

I don't know about the cost of a cable if you already own an SSD, but the drive itself is expensive if you don't already have one. I got a Samsung T5 SSD; it only holds 1TB and it's currently listed at $130. I chose that one because it was the affordable option.

  • People have fixed the frame drop issues on PS4 and PS4 Pro by using an SSD (internal or external) . It is an expensive fix, however.

Yea it took several attempts to get it. My main problem was survivors disconnecting.

If I had to deadly wound them I would just leave them on the ground a someone would usually heal them. That wouldn't work in your situation as it was the only remaining survivor. Perhaps let them wiggle free far enough away from a locker that so they have to travel farther.

When I close to not getting the achievement when I finally did. The last survivor was healthy and tea bagging me from the exit gate. It looked as if the survivor thought I would hit them and they would still escape. Had the survivor been paying attention to what happened to the other survivors they may have known that Myers grabs them prohibiting any escape.

I recorded the match and the end was great.

I tried getting as far away from any lockers as I could, but the map was Temple of Purgation. It wasn't a fun match. Another survivor had also hidden in a locker, and I forced her back on her feet; rather than run back to the locker like the next survivor did, she disconnected mid-Tombstone.

My second try was also on the Temple of Purgation (super unlucky), and the last two survivors escaped with a key they found in a chest.

I got it on my third try, on the Game map. I even got a message from one of the survivors afterward like, "You really got us! gg" so that was nice.

  • Yeah, during one match when I was trying to get that achievement, the final survivor hopped in a locker. I pulled them out, walked as far away as possible, but when they wiggled off my shoulder they were able to run right back into the same locker. So I stood there and stared at it. And stared at it. They got birds. Fifteen minutes passed.

    And then they disconnected.

    I just don't get it.

  • If killers don't like the lobby but are forced to play, they'll just AFK or walk around the map half-assing it. You really want killers who walk around, watch you do gens, and then open the gates for you? I actually got those multiple times during the SBMM test. It felt really pointless.

  • @XANA7274 said:

Licensed Killers really done get much in the skin department. None of them have blighted skins and they have been around for a LONG time.

Freddy, Pig, Myers, Bubba, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Demo.

They are all pretty limited/bound to their source material for skins - Blighted stuff really can’t be done for them.

Ghost Face is a licensed character and got a Blighted skin.

The new RCPD map is a licensed map with Blighted areas.

Demo has three cosmetics sets, one of which is some chains and the other two of which I'm pretty sure are original creations. A Blighted set would have been very fitting for him and of all licensed characters he'd be the next most likely to get one given his other original cosmetics.

Anyway, we know a Blighted skin isn't coming. This is just a "man, wouldn't that have been awesome" daydreamy thread about what cosmetics we'd like to see.

Wouldn't really say I'm hyped. The Hellraiser movies sucked in my opinion. Pinhead could be an interesting killer if they give him a unique and cool power, though.

I like Hellraiser. I'm a fan of Clive Barker's work.

But I'm worried that Pinhead is basically going to be Deathslinger + Pyramid Head. I really, really hope he's more interesting than that and also fun to play on console, but if it's a ranged chain attack plus a new kind of "punished" thing, that would almost certainly be disappointing.

  • Definitely getting Scoops Ahoy Steve, and probably Last-Minute Babysitter Steve. Not sure about any other cosmetics, though. I wish Nancy's face weren't messed up; it seems unlikely they'll fix her now that the DLC is being discontinued.

Maps are only removed to fix bugs. In this case the map is only available until Nov 17th, after which it and the DLC will no longer be avaliable, therefore people who had intended to purchase this DLC can't be confused in regard to its content.

And RCP was (not at first, but after they adjusted it) made avaliable in Custom Matches before it went to public, but it would crash people who would play on it frequently before then. Why keep a map in rotation that doesn't work properly?

In this case the map is only available until Nov 17th, after which it and the DLC will no longer be avaliable, therefore people who had intended to purchase this DLC can't be confused in regard to its content.

What you've said here is actually rather vague and could easily cause confusion. The DLC will no longer be available to purchase, but it will still be available to play by those who purchased it. However, only part of the DLC will still be able to be played: the killer, the survivors, and the cosmetics. The map, while listed as part of the DLC, will not be available to be played.

When it comes to the chapter, no differentiation is made between the killer, survivors, cosmetics, and map.

As far as we know, the map won't be available to be played in personal custom matches, even for those who purchased the DLC that contains the map.

Why keep a map in rotation that doesn't work properly?

I never said they should keep a map in rotation that doesn't work properly. I was stating an observation, not a personal opinion, pointing out a perception many customers seem to have: that they are purchasing access to everything listed on the sales page. That's all. And looking at that sales page, this misunderstanding is easy to predict, because nothing says otherwise anywhere on that page.

I'm not one of the people who thought the map came with the chapter, though I perfectly understand why other customers would think that; the only reason I know the map isn't part of the chapter is because I'm on the forums.

In other games I've played, when you purchase a package that includes maps, those maps aren't taken away from the customer when the license expires. DbD obviously doesn't work that way, so their sales page shouldn't advertise it that way.

Personally, I feel that purchasing the full chapter should come with the map, so that even if it's removed from public rotation it remains available in custom matches. That's not really the point I'm making, though. The point is that if the map isn't included in the purchase, then it shouldn't be listed, and any content that may be temporary and not last the life of the game should be marked as such.

I think that now is a good time to point out that their sales pages are unclear about what the customer is purchasing. Everyone should want a company to be specific about what their money is buying. It's easy for things that are "understood" to creep beyond the original understanding or just be flat out misunderstood. I don't want to be surprised down the line that something I purchased with real money won't even be available to me for the life of the game. If BHVR's copywriting isn't required to be clear and specific, then the consumer is the one who loses.

What I've pointed out here may not be considered to be a problem by everyone, but it's best to bring something like this up before it becomes a problem for everyone in the future.

  • @ProfoundEnding said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2433854#Comment_2433854

I don’t know why you're arguing this. It is beyond BHVR's control. Netflix didn't renew the license so BHVR can be in big trouble if any Stranger Things items remain (that aren't purchasable).

BHVR is legally obligated to remove the map or Netflix can take legal action. It doesn't matter what that sentence says, the map was free, therefore it must go.

It's something I noticed when the Resident Evil chapter released. On Twitter and what not, there were a lot of customers who were angry that RCPD was disabled, because as far as they understood they purchased the map as part of the chapter. It's never been an issue before, because a licensed map has never been previously removed from the game. However, if a chapter's map can be removed from the game, it should either still be available to those who purchased the full chapter or the maps should not be listed on the sales page.

I understand that the map is part of the rotation and players don't need to purchase the chapter to play on it. But I've noticed that other people I talk to, people who aren't part of the online community and just play the game, think the map comes with the chapter. When the map isn't even available in Custom Matches, there are going to be a lot of confused/upset customers. If maps can be completely removed, then the sales pages need to be updated.

  • When you purchase the full chapter, it even lists the map as part of what you're purchasing.

  • Killers run fun builds, get stomped on by survivors who run the meta. Killers run strong builds in return. Survivors running fun builds get stomped, they run strong builds to have a chance at surviving. The cycle continues.

Players learn the most efficient way to win and that's how they play. It's not about confidence; most players play the way they do because experience has taught them that's what's required of them.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2433733#Comment_2433733

Maps are always free to play and are not part of DLC purchases, hence you don't need to own the DLC to play on that map.

I thought Hawkins Lab wasn't going to be free/available to play anymore after Nov. 17? But it is listed as part of what's being purchased on the chapter sales page when someone buys the full chapter.

    stranger-things-ps-store-highlighted.png

If players who bought the full chapter don't retain access to the map offline (in DbD's case, I guess that'd be custom matches), then that's an issue. The sales page specifies that they are getting the map as part of their purchase.

Taking it out of rotation is one thing, but taking away any access from people who purchased the chapter could actually be a legal issue. Nowhere on the sales page does it say that the map is not part of what they're paying for, and in fact it's in a paragraph that lists exactly what the customer is paying for.

  • @Mandy said:

As we said in the FAQ, no the map will not remain in any form. It will be removed from rotation.

If customers who purchased the Stranger Things chapter will no longer have access to the Hawkins Lab map, even in custom matches, then I think the maps should stop being listed in the sales pages for the chapters, because that seems kind of... questionable.

  • Trying to do the killer Tome challenges on Switch keeps putting me in a funk. The choppy framerate is so [BAD WORD]ing awful that even when I complete the challenge I'm so frustrated it doesn't feel rewarding. Killer is miserable, miserable on the Switch. I would not touch killer on the Switch at all if it weren't for the challenges.

I would hate this game, I would set fire to this game and watch it burn, if the Switch version were the only one I owned. I really [BAD WORD]ing would. Hell, I'm getting there, anyway. I can't chase, I can't hit things, how can the game exist in this state?! How?!

I really feel like there's someone at BHVR who's just denying anyone from down grading consoles graphics. I'm assuming it's because the game would be less marketable if it looked like this

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/Q9938NNL38TQ/maxresdefault-287-29.jpg

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/1827FERT1ECS/dead-by-daylight-mobile-2.jpg

Ultimately, there will come a time where there are more xbox series x|s or ps5 players & any question for optimization will be answered by getting new hardware.

I doubt they need to downgrade the graphics that much for a performance boost. It's the special effects, like the smoke and fog: BHVR needs to fix or nix them.

This was an issue, or at least 99ing gens in general was, that's why they introduced the kick mechanic. Same with hooks when they reworked sabotaging.

I don't think egc should start on the completion of the last gen, due to perks like "no way out", but I do think they should add some kind of automatic regression to doors.

The devs actually tested exit gate regression. It hurt solo survivors more than SWF, who were able to coordinate around it. The devs are trying to lessen the power gap between solo and SWF, not widen it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1014144/#Comment_1014144

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/999246/#Comment_999246

  • Oh, it's hilarious how not going to the exit gate gets me kills as killer. Either someone's waiting for the hatch or someone is spam-vaulting at a tile and misjudges the timer, dying an inch away from the exit line. I love it.

  • Probably something from an Asian horror movie.

    Webp.net-resizeimage.png

(This particular one is Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl. Full pic, 'cause it's lovely:)

    vgvfg.png

  • It's like they want to hand you the match on a silver platter.

Me and my friend actually crawled into the basement when a Wraith left us slugged at the very beginning of a match. He hooked us, and the other survivors immediately ran downstairs in front of him, but rather than down and hook them as well he went AFK at the exit gate for the rest of the match. :( We wanted to hand the match to him on a silver platter and he didn't take it.

  • On Switch right now, performance is so bad, I'm worse than a bot. The survivors can either farm my challenge with me, in which case I'll chase and let them hit me with pallets or whatever in return, or they can get nothing out of the match except doing gens and leaving. Those are their only two options. Like last night as Clown, I gave them more than one chance, they'd stand still until I threw a bottle and then they'd dodge, so I went and stared at the exit gate.

I cannot function at a higher level than "survivor stands still and lets me ________." Hell, even on PS4, I'm really hoping for an AFK'er so I can do this Huntress challenge.

If BHVR doesn't fix performance issues, then survivors are going to need bots or they're going to end up with gen repair sim or lobby sim.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/273019/hatch-dc-exploitation

There is a punishment for it. The dc penalty is the punishment. The more they do it the higher the penalty goes, and if they’re a SWF, if one of them gets a penalty then they all have to deal with it.

Eh, I've seen SWF groups where it's multiple rank 20s (decked out with max perks and items/add-ons) and a high-rank player, and the 20s disconnect to give the high-rank the hatch. So at least some of these groups that DC to give another the hatch have multiple accounts. When one accumulates a high ban or ranks up too far, they switch to a different one.

When someone disconnects, the game could at least do the EGC death animation so that the hatch doesn't open immediately. When someone is hooked, there's a bit of delay before the hatch opens. In most cases, it probably wouldn't be enough, but damn that lack of any delay feels like a middle finger to the killer.

Personally, I think the hatch shouldn't spawn until there's only one survivor left (in which case it'd spawn open) or until all five gens are done, that way it'd put key escapes in an acceptable spot and stop the hatch campers who hide in lockers waiting for the other survivors to die rather than participate in the game.

The only solution is using headset unfortunately. But headset is kinda must for this game anyway.

Fan noise happens in some other games too tho but I think in dbd it goes ridiculously loud.

I dunno if you should be worried about your ps4 dying because I played a lot of games on mine since 2017 including dbd in very ling sessions and nothing ever happened. I probably games more than average person even when I was working 6 days a week.

DbD is the only game that sets my PS4 Pro's fans off. No other game does. That's why I get worried. I don't even hear a soft whisper of the fans with other games. With DbD, I'm starting to feel lucky when the fans are a loud whisper because the other option is the machine sounding like a jet engine.

I wear open head phones. Oh man, I'd love a noise-cancelling headset, but besides the cost another prohibitive factor is that I live with an elderly person who needs constant care. That's part of what makes the loud fans so frustrating, because they can get loud enough to drown out other noises in the house, and if that person falls and I don't hear it that's really bad.

So yeah, there are multiple reasons I'm vocal about BHVR needing to fix this issue.

I only play DBD with one of those huge table fans directly into my PS4 or otherwise the console fans also get really loud. My advice is that you do something similar to what I did or just don't play the game if the fans are really that loud, you're killing your console really fast this way.

Ugh, god, this is what I'm afraid of. I like my console. [BAD WORD]. Maybe I'll look into getting a cooling pad for it.

BHVR, I shouldn't have to buy a cooling pad and SSD just for your game.

These issues with DbD aren't normal issues. It's not the console. The problem is your game, the one people have been saying needs optimization for years, and it's gotten worse.

  • @bm33 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2427456#Comment_2427456

The fans on my ps4 are so loud with DBD, about as loud as the AC in the room. Nothing else causes the fans to react like that - no other games, no streaming apps, not the ps store, nothing. My husband has turned off my ps4 when I've had DBD up but I left the room for a bit because he thought it sounded like it was going to die if it kept going.

Yeah, it's becoming such a problem, I get more and more worried my PS4 is going to overheat. DbD's fog and smoke effects have always been the big things that set it off, but now the fans get loud even when there's not a lot of fog on a map.

Players have been reporting for years that the fans on the PS4 get loud on the menu and offering screens, and BHVR has done nothing. Seriously, they couldn't fix the opening menu screen? No game should be resource heavy on a menu screen. Ugh, that just ticks me off.

  • With every update, the fans on my PS4 run louder and longer. DbD is the only game that makes the fans run. It used to be just the "press x to continue" and offering screens that turned the fans into jet engines, but then it spread to the Survivor and Killer menus, and now the fans are running all the time during matches. It obscures the game audio! I even opened the console up and cleaned the fan, but that didn't help.

The Switch runs silent but the framerate is super choppy and killer is damn near unplayable. My PS4 has an SSD attached so DbD runs smoothly, but the fans are so damn loud it's actually become a problem. It's really unacceptable.

  • EGC is not there to make sure the game ends "once all gens are completed." It's just there to make sure the game ends. That's all. It was to stop survivors from stealthing around for 20 minutes with no way for the killer to force them out. Now, the killer has a way to force them out.

  • I'm so upset at their updates on Switch. Not only is the graphics quality worsening with each "fix," but so is the performance. The choppy fps makes survivor annoying and killer nearly unplayable. It was bought and installed right after RE was released, and the graphics were better and the performance was fine. How they have managed to make it this awful with supposed fixes baffles me.

  • I love Hellraiser, but I'm not sure I want to see Pinhead walking through cornfields. That seems silly. It's the same reason I don't want the Xenomorph in DbD. I feel like Candyman would be a better fit, aesthetically.

but what if I judge wins based off speed? Now the emblem system isn't measuring what I consider a win.

Okay. That's fine. Everyone has their own win conditions.

But you'll find some survivors will be unhappy because they don't find your way of winning fun for them. Their way of winning might not be fun for you, either.

Right now, with the tomes, my win condition is "did I get this challenge done?" For example, is it fun for the survivors to watch me walk around and break walls and kick gens? Probably not (unless all they want to do is work on gens), but that's my win condition I'm working towards.

The emblem system dictates pips and BP gains. Not if I win. That's like saying having gold medals in Overwatch means you're carrying.

    lmao.

There is no set win condition. Players determine their own win conditions, whether that be escapes, kills, Bloodpoints, pips, BBQ stacks, WGLF stacks...

The end screen that says "Entity Displeased" vs "Merciless Killer" is the closest thing to telling a player whether they won or lost, and that's determined by the emblem system.

  • Maybe some of them are doing the challenge to kick gens/break pallets. Or maybe they've had some bad matches and just want to walk around and kick crap for a bit to earn a few points; a do-nothing match can be a kind of mental reset.

  • God that'd be nice. Not loading all the killer and survivor assets into every match would probably make a huge difference in performance on its own. There'd be fewer weird unrelated things breaking with every update.

If it means that all the killer issues would be fixed.

    Perks Addressed..

    Casual and Ranked mode..

    Actual Rank Rewards..

    Then yes..

Well, rewriting the code would mean the devs could fix the loot table issue and have Hoarder affect chest item rarity the way it was originally supposed to.

  • Best tactic: play casual, just chase and hit, maybe don't hook, then if they want to use the key the survivors still have to complete all five gens.

That's what I do most matches, though, key or not. But it still totally negates any usefulness the key might present.

  • Nemesis's zombies bring me joy.
