Taking away Spirit's collision killed her for me because I can't track via sound in this game.
Changing the way Bubba's chainsaw works is something I just haven't been able to get used to.
Nurse. Dear god, adding that cooldown to Nurse's Blinks made her feel miserable. I used to try to play as her on console as a fun challenge (I was so proud when I'd get my BBQ 4-stack!), but she's not fun anymore. I end up going AFK at/inside the exit gate every time I try to play her because I just want the match to end so I can play anything else.
-
Sometimes when a survivor gets disconnected, the match screen shows the killer as having disconnected even though the match is still continuing for everyone else. I'm not saying this is for sure what happened to you, but it is something that happens.
-
Well, as far as I know it's not like the system prioritizes putting people on the same platform together (why would it? BHVR has enough trouble putting together a lobby of players in a timely manner), so I don't know why anyone would expect their lobbies not to be full of little globes.
If you don't like playing with other platforms, then turn off cross-play. I don't know if it's accurate, but I've heard that people with cross-play off can only play with other people with cross-play off, so maybe that's where the PlayStation users in your region are.
-
His original POV was awful, it felt damn near impossible to track survivors. The low camera angle and his awful controls on console made me hate playing as him. I mean that. I hated him. The devs raised his camera and tweaked his controls. Those weren't small changes, at least not for console. It made a huge improvement in his playability.
If the community hadn't been vocal about how much his low camera sucked or how bad the controls felt, then the devs might not have fixed him and he could still be miserable to play as today.
-
Just experienced this as well playing on the Switch.
-
Oni's outfit is awesome, but I don't play as him so it's definitely not something I'd spend actual money on. My next favorite is Yun Jin's. Since unlike every other character they made her prettier rather than uglier with her face update, and since the outfit can be bought with shards, I may actually get it.

I wish they actually didn't "fix" it.
We don't have to spend much time at the splash screen and offering screen. Now we have the same problem at places you mentioned where we actually do spend some time.
We are in worse situation now. Let's just hope our consoles don't die or something.
I mean I appreciate that they are doing something (like they did with dh) but this thing turned for the worse.
You're not wrong, the console overheating on the lobby screen is way worse. However, the devs fixing the splash screen does show that this is a problem they both can fix and need to fix on their end.
Looking at the campfire lobby screen, they have so much going on. Fire, smoke, sparks, fog, volumetric lighting. I wouldn't be surprised if the big problem that was added with the Pinhead update that's making the lobby screen so bad is the volumetric lighting shining through the building's windows, but I don't know enough about the inner workings of their game to actually point a finger and say "that's the cause." It would mean that the campfire screen's overheating worsened because BHVR's trying to be fancy with their background and not because they tried to fix it and failed. It is strange that the fans get louder now than they did with the super busy Resident Evil background, though. Craziness.

Try changing your thermal paste.
The problem is that PS4 consoles aren't meant to be opened up. The risk of breaking something is pretty high. I've looked into taking my PS4 to a professional, but that means once again I'm paying money to fix a hardware problem that only seems to exist with DbD. That's it, DbD is the only game causing any issues.
The Pinhead update actually fixed the overheating issue that occurred on the opening splash screen and the offering screen. Like so many of us on the forum have been saying, DbD's visual effects (especially the fog) are taxing the systems. Some of the maps get the fans going, but the biggest problem is that with the Pinhead update the campfire menu/lobby screen now overheats the console as much as the splash screen used to. It sucks.
-
I used to pass a lot of the time in the forums, but I'm feeling rather apathetic right now. I'm usually playing DOAXVV, though Cookie Clicker getting added to Steam recently made me want to play it again, so I've got that running in my browser.
-
I prefer it this way because it finally doesn't make the fans on my PS4 sound like jet engines. The fog was super unnecessary.
It'd be nice if they gave the option to have fog or not have fog on non-essential screens, but BHVR is really bad at giving players options.

Not quite there is no way out. The killer can break the breakable wall, and you can fix the generator to get out. But sometimes you need to leave the room urgently in order to save the survivors, it can be considered a bug / lack of spawn
I did say in the original post "The only way out as a survivor is to complete the generator." But there's no immediately open exit.
-
I forgot to mention that Alessa spawned inside the room at the beginning of the match. The title has been updated to reflect that.
In the video you see I dropped down to get into the room. Dropping down was the only way to get into the room and there were no open ways out.
-
Killers need a reason to want to hook survivors and spread those hooks out rather than tunnel.
Right now, the most effective way to slow down gen repair is to take survivors out of the match. One survivor gone early is usually a guaranteed win. That's bad for gameplay health.
A thought I just had (and this is a 2am thought, so it might suck) is that maybe each killer should get some kind of individual benefit from hooking survivors. Like for instance their power's cooldown decreases by a small amount for each hook state of each living survivor. Or Hillbilly's overheat mechanic goes away when there are 4 hook states among living survivors. Or maybe a survivor who's been hooked has some kind of other value to the killer, like occasionally giving away the position of a different nearby survivor with killer instinct or something.
(The examples I gave above aren't good ideas to implement, I know, I'm just trying to illustrate the type of thing I'm suggesting.)
Right now, survivors who've been hooked have no value to the killer. A survivor who's been hooked does not repair gens slower. Having four survivors all on death hook in the match does not have any effect on the killer other than a greater chance of losing because there are four survivors still in the trial.
I'm keeping this short because it's late and I need to go to bed, but in summation yeah, I agree with you, the game's mechanics need to be changed.
-
Yup, just happened to me on Nintendo Switch. The game crashed at the end of my killer match. I loaded it back up, and survivor is at Ash IV even though it was Silver before the crash.
-
I keep getting teammates who don't work on gens. Many of them stealth around the map. I've had a few who crouch around me just hangin' out while I work on a gen. I've had some body block me so I can't work on a gen. I just had a match where I died because another survivor body blocked me at a pallet so I couldn't throw it down. Mostly the game keeps giving me survivors with like no playtime who do nothing but stealth around and don't know what gens are. It's not fun.
Earlier I had a match with my friend where the two other survivors just wanted to flashlight blind the killer. That's fine, whatever, but then multiple times they brought the killer straight to us while we were working on gens. I refused to play the match anymore and died, the two idiots died because they were terrible at trolling, and the killer took pity on my friend and gave him the hatch.
The matches with halfway decent teammates go fine. There aren't enough of those, though. I swear it seems the better I perform right now the worse teammates I get next match.
-
All girls should get goth cosmetics. Susie needs gothic lolita. And bubblegum goth. Huntress can get something more mature and probably cultish. Get some of the ladies vampy cosmetics.
Goth everywhere.
-
I almost never run gen slowdown perks. They're not fun. I want to run fun perks. If survivors want to just do gens as fast as possible and leave, then that's fine and we can all move on to the next match.

thanks, ill do that. i cant believe behavior wont even listen unless theres video. like even if theres like 10 reports within 30 min to a player like nothing happens? i know so many other games taht just getting reported enough times for the same thing within X amount of time results in a temporary ban
If BHVR automatically implemented any type of automatic ban, there'd never be any killer players. People report others for everything, much of which isn't bannable. You'll get four survivors all reporting a killer for tunneling or accusing him of wall-hacks because they don't know what add-ons do.
Any time you report a user, you have to do it in-game and file a support ticket with video evidence (a link to an unlisted YouTube upload).
-
What the hell happened?! He's sliding off damn near everything on the Swamp, and it was bad before 5.2.0. I'm sliding off surfaces on Red Forest I have no business sliding along.
This is awful. Give me back the ability to record video on the Switch so I can share just how miserable his collision is right now.
-
Even if a killer plays in a way I don't find fun, I don't teabag in the exit gate or on the hatch. I just leave. There's no reason to be a sore winner in a game that's well known for being frustrating as hell.

I agree. I am just saying what they could do now to improve their gameplay.
Fair enough.
Yeah, I changed my Vault/Pallet button to the triangle first thing. It feels so good never accidentally dropping a pallet. I also get extremely judgy about anyone who does accidentally drop the pallet, because I am obviously better than them. 😁 😉

It is not just about chains. When you want to heal a teammate near the pallet you could drop it or waste time trying to get right action to pop.
Also you could pick up items near windows instead of vaulting or jump in the locker. Etc etc.
But there still do need to be more options for button mapping. One of the first things I did when playing this game was change the button for vaulting/pallets, but that's not enough in certain situations...
@TragicSolitude said:
This happens every time I'm in the dying state and try to escape through the hatch. It happens on PS4 and on the Switch. It keeps trying to "Recover" instead of escaping, even when at maximum recovery.
Here's a video of it taking over 20 seconds for me to escape through the hatch today (PS4 Pro):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpJRDU8oWog
Here's a video from a month ago where I couldn't escape through the hatch (PS4 Pro):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPR2j6IdsZM
And here I am spectating another player who takes multiple tries to escape through the hatch (Switch):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-32Iz1tWgGc
Either console needs more key binding options or hatch escape needs to take serious priority over recovery. That 20-some seconds of trying to escape through the hatch today was ridiculous. It requires some kind of exact positioning for it to escape rather than recover, and the dying state doesn't allow for precision control.
Edit: I changed the button for vaulting and throwing down a pallet, that way I don't accidentally throw down a pallet when I'm trying to heal someone. Why is escaping through the hatch not the same button as vaulting and pallet-throwing?
The game needs more options for controllers, for both button mapping and things like stick dead zone. They have precision-based killers but no way to adjust controls so that you can actually be precise on a controller.
-
I agree.
I go in for BP, and if I'm only able to do one thing in a match and then that BP category maxes out... well, I'm sure there have been killers who wondered why I just came to a dead stop in the middle of a chase.

It's not about being entertainer or bots. Playing like they do is like being a bot.
The point of the game is the interactivity between survivors and the killer.
If every trials were :
- Killer chase 1st survivor, down him/her and hook him/her
- Killer camping the hook
- 3 remaining survivors doing gens only and escape
Where is the gameplay. So you are defending a terrible game mechanic, "camp doing nothing 90% of the trial" and you call it good and healthy for the game.
Ok, i'm wondering who i'm talking to. Surely one of those campers that don't know to play Killer properly :)
I kindly request you don't put words in my mouth. I never said it was good or healthy. I think being camped on the hook sucks and is no fun, but you talked about hardware banning players for doing something that's within the rules of the game.
Getting rid of camping would require changing the rules, which would require changing the game's mechanics. I'm all for changing the game's mechanics. I think there are a lot of problems in the game. But a ton of people come onto the forums saying to punish killers. "Punish them for playing in a way I don't find fun."
Anyone talking about punishing players for playing within the rules isn't making a suggestion that will improve the health of the game. Talking about changing the game? Healthy. Talking about changing the player's behavior via negative consequences? Unhealthy. So yeah, at that point, if all you want is "play my way or get banned," then just ask BHVR to make bots who will cater to your fun.

I think it's pretty easy. Surprisingly
I envy you. The chain feels awful with tracking and aiming, but maybe it's just me. I have a lot of trouble tracking survivors normally during a chase with the low fps on the Switch, and if I have to turn my camera at all it seems like I drop half the frames.
-
It's only 30k, so it shouldn't be very difficult. It's actually a pain in the ass to do Pinhead's chain on console, definitely not easy.

That's not what I mentioned. If someone dodged your lobby multiple times, when you play different killers, against different group of survivors, day by day, month by month; then it's absolutely abnormal. I don't know how, but I am pretty sure they can check who is the player as killer.
Oh, you meant a few specific survivor players. I didn't get that, I apologize.

I am playing on playstation, but few survivors always dodged my lobby. It took them like 15-20 seconds to check then leave. I am pretty sure they are not only able to see steam ID, but also player ID.
I dodge lots of lobbies as a survivor. I've dodged Claudettes, Megs, Feng Mins, and bad pings. I've left because something suddenly came up. I've never had any idea who the killer was.

Nope, win conditions are determined by BHVR. I'm not even sure that a 4k with camping tunneling the full game is considered a win by the SBMM system now. I hope not.
Win conditions for SBMM's MMR are determined by BHVR. They are not public, however, and there is no defined win condition for killers unless the player takes their cue from the game and its achievements, in which case Merciless Killer or a 4k are the obvious ones. When I play killer, however, my win condition is often to max out one or two BP categories and/or to get my BBQ 4-stack and after that I just go afk and wait for the next match. Everyone is different.
The killer's win condition is not "Did the survivors have fun?" I wouldn't even know if the survivors had fun, I'm on console with messages turned off. And when I had messages on, even though I never camped or tunneled, I still got messages accusing me of such. If a single survivor died, it seemed 99% of the time none of the survivors had fun. So the win condition "Did the survivors have fun?" would be nearly impossible to achieve without actually implementing bots who play for the survivors, as I keep saying.

Rules are arbitrary. DC could be an acceptable rules when you don't want to play against someone playing cheap.
Fact is, the Killer is "driving" the trial. He is the only one who can behave badly towards the survivors. Survivors can't do anything to prevent it.
Then pay them for being entertainers or make them bots. Otherwise, they're people playing a game with their own win conditions.
And my teammates are often as lethal as the killer. The killer does not have a monopoly on bad or stupid behavior.
-
Just make killers bots already. They can be programmed to only play in a way others find fun.
Or tell BHVR that killers should be entertainers and make playing killer a paid job.
Otherwise, the game itself has to be changed at a core level. You can't punish players for playing within the game's rules just because you don't like those rules.
-
I saw a Pinhead take pity on my friend because the chains kept interrupting him as he tried to solve the box.
How was this problem overlooked? A survivor trying to solve the box is interrupted by the chain hunt they're trying to stop which prevents them from solving the box to stop the chain hunt...
-
Get max points in a few categories in less time: Distressing + Beast of Prey + BBQ. That's my farming build and it's wonderful. As a fourth perk, I like running Lightborn (used to be Whispers, back before dedicated servers went live.)
I don't like Thrill of the Hunt, survivors often get more points cleansing it than I do running it. Beast of Prey all the way.

Honestly I'd love for them to remove fog all together because, like luck, it's just useless and the offerings are just wasted BP. Look at this fog on Coldwind, it looks like exhaust from an old crappy city bus. That doesn't make this map look creepy, it just looks crappy.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/P4S5M6YJYDPD/ps-app-20210908-080619.jpeg

I agree with this so much! The fog in-game looks so silly. It eats resources, it has useless offerings cluttering the Bloodweb, and it looks awful. Seriously, it doesn't look even halfway decent, there is no justification for leaving it in, especially not when it's taxing the hardware.
The fog on the menu/lobby screens and all the visual effects on the Rift/Tome screens need to go. Any effects on those are so nonessential it's baffling that we're even having to discuss this.

I'm playing on am Xbox Series X. Having the exact same problem.
I've Uninstalled and reinstalled the game, power cycled, and even soft reset the xbox. There is no problems with any other game. It's an issue with Dead by Daylight itself
Wait, so this issue is happening on PS4 Pro, Switch, and Xbox Series X?
[BAD WORD]. What did they do?!
-
Update: A bit more information about this issue.
If I start up the PS4 cold and enter DbD, the fans do not immediately go to max on the campfire menu/lobby screens. However, if the console has been on for a bit of time, then the menu/lobby screens max out the fans fast.
On the Nintendo Switch, it looks like there's more fog on the campfire menu/lobby screens. That's weird, the Switch is supposed to be on a really low graphics setting. The fog and other visual effects are a big part of the problem, so those should be the things minimized. Instead, I have matches where the textures don't load in for different elements but hey, look, the fog's there to make sure my framerate stays below 10 fps.
-
Performance on Switch when playing killer seems the same. Same frame drops, same crappy framerate. If I have to turn my camera to track a survivor, then I simply can't track them, fps continues to be that bad.
The opening splash screen no longer seems to cause the fans on my PS4 Pro to go nuts, so that's nice. However, the menu/lobby screens now make the fans go to max immediately, so I worry it's not safe to play DbD at all right now because I may risk it overheating the console. Unlike the splash screen which I can quickly click through, I'm stuck on the lobby screens. So, they fixed one issue but overall made the problem worse.

You are playing on a 10 years old console... It's sad to hear but this console reached over its limit...
Keep some money for a Ps5 or switch to PC ( by the cost of all your account progression )
Much better games (better graphics, more players per lobby, larger maps) run just fine on the PS4. This is an issue with DbD not being optimized. Also, the mods have said that it's not okay for people to tell others to buy a new system to fix their performance problems, because they take performance seriously and are working to fix these issues on PC and consoles.
Also, I did say in my original post that they fixed one overheating issue but worsened another, so obviously these things can be fixed.
-
Ugh, c'mon. The overheating issue on the campfire menu/lobby screens is now WORSE. My PS4 Pro's fans immediately go to max. The game spends eons in lobby screens! What the hell am I supposed to do?!
The fans are now silent on the opening splash screen, so that's awesome. It also proves this is something for the devs to fix on their end.

2 things:
1) I dislike how this game has one button to do 20 different actions. Some of which, can overlap with each other (like what happened to you here, or a gen/locker near a window. MnK have tons of options and there are two buttons on controllers that are not used on console. Oh- and the d-pad’s left & right.
2) I wonder if you weren’t already on top of it when the DC occurred, if it would have allowed you to enter with the correct button prompt afterwards? That shouldn’t matter though, just goes back to what I was saying above.
Just to clarify, being on top of it when the other survivor dc'd has nothing to do with it:

Had the rift challenge to blind or pallet stun the killer 4 times.
Played against a Wraith. Pallet stunned him 3 times, flashlight blinded him 5 or 6 times. 2 lightburns until he ignored me for the rest of the match. (Didn't flashlight click.)
After the match (3 man escape) he said that I triggered him pretty hard. Explained the rift challenge and after saying sorry, we wished each other a nice evening.
Both killers and survivors have to remember that there is a human being on the other side of the screen.
Wow, that's a lot of blinds and stuns o_0
Congrats. I'm terrible at that crap. The killers I go against always respect pallets. I managed to complete that challenge by getting an uncloaked Wraith with flash bangs twice in one match and was thankful for it.
-
I don't care if it's super duper easy to win, gens are boring and I'd rather act silly and have fun as me and my friend farm each other. For some players, escaping is overrated: winning = having fun.
Remember, DbD is a casual party game, not a competitive e-sport game. Maybe you should ask the devs to add a competitive mode.
-
It's really frustrating the way hitboxes/collision work in this game. I keep having issues dropping my items as a survivor and I'm not sure why, if it's the terrain or what. Numerous things can prevent me from dropping a survivor as killer. Because of the way the animation needs the killer to back up a millimeter, a survivor crouching behind me can stop me from being able to break a pallet, damage a gen, hook someone, or open the exit gate. There's no good reason for that to be a thing, it just lets survivors act douchey to annoy the killer.
-
I don't like hexes, and I don't like gen slowdown perks.
I also have yet to become a fan of exhaustion perks. I probably need them, I rarely last long in chases, but I dunno, they feel like such BS.
-
I'm iffy on it, but he really doesn't look console-friendly, so he might be more frustrating than fun on PS4. I can't really play killer at all on Switch, I'm miserable every time I attempt a Tome challenge, so buying any killer for that platform is a waste of money.

Why are you worried about your rank in the sbmm? You'll never know what it is, unless the devs decide to make it public (seems unlikely). The effect sbmm has will be on the quality of your matches, which is subjective and yet to really be seen.
