Why is this suddenly more of a thing? I'm seeing multiple killers do this lately. Even to my friend, who isn't good enough at the game to be worth BMing.
-
I know a bunch of killers I came across in the past few days would've had that option turned off, and then they wouldn't have gotten to complete their challenges with me and my friend. And as killer I've come across other SWFs just memeing around.
This change would affect all SWFs, even the ones just out to play casual fun matches.
-
When survivors play in a way that I don't find fun, I roll up my sleeves and go get a snack or somethin', I dunno, but I play how I want and I'm not going to let others change me. I don't care about kills, I can't de-pip further, so it doesn't matter to me whatsoever if I stop participating and let them play gen repair sim.
Everyone's different, though.
-
1997.
The manga is amazing, if you haven't read it you should look into it. The anime is good but could never fully capture the manga.
-
Yesterday while playing survivor I had a match with two hackers. I felt bad for the killer, he was obviously frustrated, and the game put us on RPD.
One of the reasons for playing on console in the first place is to avoid hackers, so this kinda defeats half the purpose of hobbling yourself with the crappy console performance.

People on ps4/pro. Have you noticed that fans make no noise at the starting screen when you turn the console on after it was being off for a while.
Yes. I'm on PS4 Pro, and when I turn the console on and start up DbD for the first time that day, the fans are quieter.
-
Update: Due to getting disconnected, the Nintendo Switch was left on the splash screen for a few minutes. The fans got quite loud.
So, the fog effects tax both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.
This is unacceptable. When a player boots up the game, they wait on the splash screen. Anything in the game hiccups, the player is sent back to the splash screen. A splash screen should be the most simple, basic thing. If I ever had a screen saver do this to my computer, I'd be livid.
-
It's fun because I'm making it fun. I think that counts.
I have fun with my friend. We're so dumb. We played for hours today and the only times we escaped were when the killer refused to kill us.
If I were playing on my own I'd be miserable. I watched so many teammates today hiding in lockers or crouching around the edges of the map rather than touching gens. If I were trying to escape I'd be frustrated, but instead I'm using SWF to making dying fun.
-
For killer, Legion. Their selling point has always been their aesthetic rather than their gameplay. I love some of their cosmetics but holy hell do I hate playing as them. Maybe if BHVR ever makes them fun I'll buy some, otherwise not much point.
As survivor, I dunno. Kate has always been my main. She gets good cosmetics. Though, Ashy Slashy wins as best cosmetic ever.
Blight needs some more cosmetics. And Nemesis, damn, he really needs something better than trash bag chic.

I'm sure its not an easy thing to do
No one said it's easy. But it was released on console in a bad state. It shouldn't have been sold at all. They pushed it out instead of optimizing it and making sure it performed well, and years later not only have they still not done it but it's gotten worse.
The state it's been in on Switch from day one is abysmal and they should be embarrassed that they charged money for it.
-
I don't bring items just because I'm a hoarder. I don't use add-ons as killer, either.

Killers mostly DCing at the end game when the doors are open. I don't know why they do that. Just wait 10-20 seconds.
If the killer is on Switch, it's likely a crash. The Switch has had issues with crashing at the end of a match. I had it happen numerous times as killer.

I got it serviced at a Computer repair shop, they gave me before and after screenshots. Got rid of dust completely and replaced thermal paste. the only game that gave me problems was DbD but now no problems at all
How much was the service?
... ugh, I've never before had a game where I had to keep asking "How much?" to fix its issues so I could continue playing it. I had to buy an external SSD just so I could play because performance was so bad after RE. Why? Why did BHVR have to release this game on consoles? I could have gotten addicted to some other, less frustrating game that doesn't keep eating my money.
Sigh.
Sorry, that paragraph was directed at the universe in general.

Think you might need to sort your console out, dust getting into the vents and blocking airflow or thermal paste needs replacing. My fans use to be like this before I got it serviced.
Like I mention at the bottom of my post, I opened the console up and cleaned it out as best I could, getting every speck of dust off the fan and out of the vents.
If this happened with other games, I would accept that it's the console. However, it's only DbD. Because Sony did not design the PS4 to be opened up, it is extremely easy to irreparably break the board when moving pieces around inside. I'm not going to risk that when DbD is the only game that makes the fans even audible much less loud.
My fans use to be like this before I got it serviced.
So you didn't do it yourself? (Honestly curious about this. Getting gaming consoles cleaned/fixed doesn't seem to be a common service, so everything I've come across about fixing the fan noises is DIY.)
-
If the killer DCs and you get a penalty, that's a bug and you should report it. Only the player who actually disconnects is supposed to get a penalty.
From my experience, there are not a large number of killers who disconnect (maybe it's different in your region, I don't know). If you have any problems with the game or your internet connection, though, the following may apply to you:
Playing with my friend as survivors, he was recently kicked from a match and it showed the killer as having disconnected, but the match was actually still going (I think this has happened before, but I know it definitely happened a couple days ago). There's some sort of bug where a survivor who gets kicked may see the killer as having disconnected even though the killer did not disconnect.
-
Update: I was disconnected from a match and sent to the main "Press x to continue" screen, and the fans got extremely loud.
When I first start playing DbD, the "Press x to continue" screen can get loud but I try to go past it quickly. Apparently, if I've been playing the game for any length of time, being sent back to the "Press x" screen gets to jet engine levels within a few seconds.
It took longer for the fans to slow down and return to normal than the amount of time spent on the screen.
-
It's extremely painful on the Switch. Every time I go to click on a node, I have to correct the position of the cursor about four or five times before it's actually in the right spot. The controls suck so much on the Switch.
-
On PlayStation, the dumbest achievement is Skilled Huntress. Because of Sony's rules, it still has the original requirements of downing 100 survivors.
[BAD WORD] that achievement. [BAD WORD] it in the [BAD WORD]. Someone stand still and let me farm this damn thing already! 🤬

unless theres some legal reason not to name hackers i really dont see why we shouldnt name them. As it stands it just looks like the mods are defending them
The mods don't want witch hunts. Any salty player could come on these forums and accuse someone else of whatever, and that's not good. This game has a habit of making players very salty, and it'll go from accusing someone of being a dirty camper to being a dirty hacker in the blink of an eye.
There is an official way to report hackers: report them in-game and then file a support ticket. Support tickets are not public.

probs like false reporting and such. dont wanna ruin someone's reputation or sumthin. but yeah even tho i dont like L***-T*** cause he was a troll , i dont think he should of been banned. mabye a warning. tho he should of followed the rules
In most cases, before a forum member is permanently banned, they go through three other stages: 1. issued a warning, 2. put in those prison bars, 3. banned for a month. Pretty sure the forum member you're referring to has gone through all three, because I remember him being gone for a month.
Unfortunately, the way these forums work, you can be warned for breaking one rule three years ago and then get imprisoned tomorrow for breaking a different rule. There's no way to put your account back in good standing.

I absolutely agree that this game is by no mean on the level of competitive as those titles. They aim for almost perfect balance from the top down and have 0 RNG. When you play Mario party you still are playing to win right? In most case your not playing super "sweaty" but you are going to take ever opportunity that one of your opponents gives you to win. This game is no different imo.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2461865#Comment_2461865
Each killer has only 1-2 maps each that really destroy there chances so more often then not you'll end up on a map this is ok for your power. Honestly the whole "RNG" of tiles is kind of off I mean shouldn't you get some levels that have alot of dead zones if you get alot of maps that have super safe tiles right next to each other if its random?
I just don't agree with the the face that people like to say oh this isn't a competitive game when by its very nature it is. Now I do want to point out that there is different levels of competitive Dbd being more towards the bottom but to try and say that this game is no way competitive its wrong
Two strong loops right next to each other is RNG and can be very detrimental to a killer, but map tiles aren't the only random things in the game. Hex totems and where they spawn are RNG. There are chests on the map with random items; a survivor can pull out a key and end the match early for it. The hatch mechanic is total RNG: whether the survivor or killer finds it first has little to do with skill. I've had the hatch literally spawn at my feet when the third survivor dies.
The game is competitive in that two groups of players are pitted against each other, but when people on the forums say "the game isn't competitive" they're trying to say it's not an e-sport game. When there are DbD tournaments, there are all kinds of rules just to try to make the game balanced, because it's not balanced in a way that this is always a battle of skill.

What do you mean, Spirit is best for farming deviousness points
I used to use her, but Blight's power bar fills up faster (I think... it feels faster, anyway) and I've found I do max out with him quicker than I do with Spirit. Blight is #1 and Spirit is a close #2.
On Switch I don't have Blight, so I still use Spirit for farming BP there.
-
Yes, players do compete against each other in this game.
RNG plays a huge part in this game and can have a bigger impact on a match's outcome than skill, which is why it's called a party game rather than "competitive."
The more seriously someone takes this game, the more they're going to see the game as competitive. But really, this game is too unbalanced and buggy with too much RNG for people who take it seriously to not look ridiculous. (The bugginess and lack of balance may not be intended, but the RNG is.)
-
Most killers who hit me repeatedly on the hook have been ranks 19 and 20. I've seen others on these forums say that when they first started playing the game, they were under the impression that hitting someone on the hook actually had an effect, like making the sacrifice go faster. The survivor on the hook does make noise when you hit them, so why wouldn't a killer think it's intended? That's bad game design, there: usually if an app or game provides feedback upon an action, it's to indicate that that action is doing something.
Of course, that doesn't explain everyone's behavior. Some people are just jerks.

I play solo and played swf. The reason i stopped playing swf was because of how easy and stale the game can get. But most of swf in the high level are very experience and very good at looping. Just because a couple of people just wanna have fun does not mean its balanced for high level play. You can do alot just playing solo but alot of people refuse and rather play swf to get an advantage. Whether you agree or not its up to you. But I agree with you the game needs to be updated for you. But I'm not ehre to stop you from playing swf on comms. I'm just here to disagree when people day they only play swf for fun and not the advantage it gets.
I wouldn't know about high-level play. My friend and I don't usually get past rank 15. Ranks 16 and 15 are where we hover. I guess at these ranks it's mostly about making dying fun.
90%+ of my time playing survivor in the game has been solo survivor. I just... I've grown to really hate it. I mean yeah, you can play fine in solo, but the majority of matches felt miserable, even when I escaped. Trying to escape as survivor means sitting around doing gens, and escaping rarely feels rewarding enough to make the tedium of it worthwhile. The role of survivor just isn't fun in solo, the mechanics are boring and you can't really meme well with randoms, you risk coming off as a troll or griefer.
But that's my personal viewpoint. We obviously have different experiences in the game.
-
I will have a fit if they mess with his basekit. He is the best killer for farming Deviousness points.
It really sucks to play killers with a slow recharge. It's not fun to be watching a power bar fill up waiting for your chance to do the one thing that makes a killer enjoyable.
I have no comment on the mentioned perks, I don't use them. But leave my Blight alone, he's the only killer I have fun with these days besides tier 1 Myers. He's a high mobility killer that actually works on console.
-
Pfft. Watched my friend try to play friendly Demo on Midwich last night, not being aggressive. He got stuck in the air against the courtyard wall and could only move his camera. The survivors teabagged and made noise notifications and waited until the last second to leave.
Kindness is obviously too much to ask. Common decency would be nice sometimes.
-
Depending on my day, one sabo'd hook can mean all four survivors bleed to death on the ground. I mean, I have no way of knowing what kind of sabo build they're all running, I have to play it safe. (I can probably count the number of times I've done that on one hand, though.)
More likely, I just drop the survivor I'm carrying and go stare at a wall; if you guys don't want to be hooked and make points/finish challenges by getting hook saves, fine, you get your wish. I'm a nice killer: I give survivors what they want.
Oof, so glad console doesn't have post-game chat.

PS5 consoles do have an overheating issue, and a system that runs even a couple degrees too hot can see a noticeable drop in performance.
Just something I've read about that could explain why some people see a drop in performance and others don't. On PS4 DbD causes overheating issues, but on PS5 it might be firmware/hardware related.
-
I got it because of the ST sale. I figured why not.

It is really bad and I think it does add to the performance issues. I notice the louder the fans are the worse the game runs. They definitely get louder on specific maps that have been having terrible performance.
Yeah, specific maps are worse than others. I think it's the reworked maps specifically that cause the most problems for me. Clown's gas bottles and all those visual effects when I'm being sacrificed to the entity on the hook can really get the fans screaming. I've also noticed the fans sometimes seem to get louder and louder as I'm working on a gen.
-
The fans got so loud on the Rift/Tome screens today it actually scared me. They should not be getting that loud.
So, I actually created a bug report. Because overheating can damage hardware, I consider it more pressing than performance (though, even running just a few degrees too hot can negatively impact performance). Please upvote it if you've experienced an issue with the fans getting too loud and/or the system overheating.
With how bad it's getting, I feel like this can't wait. And it shouldn't have to wait, either, given that the problem is worst on menu screens.
(It's not exclusive to menu screens, it happens in matches, too, but it's worst in areas where the special effects are ridiculously unnecessary. The best thing BHVR could do is immediately remove the VFX from out-of-trial areas and work on optimizing the effects within trials.)
With each update I get more and more worried that this is going to be the update that fries the system. I do not think my heart can take it getting worse with Pinhead's chapter. I am desperate to hear that this is a serious priority for the devs. Not the way general optimization is a priority, but the way the game crashing on all consoles or the Doc breaking DS were priorities.

I am on the PS4 Pro. Every single time I go to look at the Rift or the Tome challenges, the fans get LOUD. I don't mean kind of loud, I don't mean very loud, I mean extremely loud. I cannot stress enough how loud they are and how much that concerns me.
The fans get very loud on the "Press X to continue" opening screen and on the offerings screen. There is something about the fog effects that the PS4 Pro is not handling well. It has been this way for years, but it's getting much, much worse as time goes on. (Ironically, the fog effects are there to make the opening screen, offerings screen, and Tome/Rift screens look better, but the dip in performance makes them a slideshow at times which is aesthetically worse than no effects at all.)
The absolute loudest the fans get is on the Rift/Tome screens. The visual effects there seem to really tax the system. I don't want my console overheating and ending up with hardware damage, especially not because of the menu screens in a game.
The fog and visual effects are causing overheating issues. These effects are unnecessary on menu screens and could be removed without any effect on gameplay.
When a system runs even a few degrees too hot, performance worsens. Players have previously reported performance problems on the menu screens. The fog and other visual effects may also be causing some of the performance problems within the matches.
(My game is installed on an external SSD, so this is not related to the HDD/SSD issue. Moving the game to the external SSD improved performance but had no effect on the fan noise. I even opened up the system and cleaned the fan just a couple weeks ago in case that would help, but it did not. No other game makes my fans even audible much less loud; this is strictly a DbD issue.)

Lol. I knew it was stupid starting a thread around a bunch 5yr old (or older) PC builds & PC fanbots who complain their 10 series GPU can't run DbD 'properly' and it needs optimized...
BOOM
Yes, BHVR has made a lot of claims about things they're "working on" which are then never heard about again.
And the game does not necessarily run just fine on the PS5: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/276073/doctor-is-still-making-the-game-lag-on-next-gen-consoles
Before BHVR goes adding awesome new visuals to the game, they should get the current visuals working for the very large percentage of their playerbase, because most console players are on Xbox One, PS4, and Switch, not the hard-to-find next-gen consoles.
To answer your question, RT is not in the game and there is no due date for it. Just like cross-progression on the Switch and a ton of other things that are "coming." Given how many times the date for cross-progression on the Switch has been pushed back, even if the date for RT is announced I would not expect anything. Until it is in the game it's just a dream.

It's not bad once you learn the layout.
Nah, the way some doorways can be body blocked and require the player to go halfway around the map to get to the necessary location is bad for gameplay. It makes a large percentage of the map nearly as dangerous as the basement, which is supposed to be uniquely treacherous, as evidenced by the way the devs remapped the Thompson house.

Drifting issues right? Ds4 is the worst controller EVER. Actually I'll probably have to buy 4th one soon instead of ssd lol.
Some drifting issues, though that happens more with the Joycons on Switch. (Ugh, I hate the way new controllers all seem to have drift problems. You think controllers would get better, not worse, with each new system.)
Personally, the bigger problem I've had with DualShock controllers is their shoddy ports. My oldest developed an issue where it didn't seem to like any cord being plugged into the USB for charging, and worse actually it got this issue where it'd constantly think it had a headset being plugged in and out, in and out, constantly taking audio away from the TV or headset, whichever I was using. I have never plugged a headset into my new controllers because of that. I actually got a USB extension cord and a USB headphones adapter for plugging straight into the PlayStation USB ports. I probably get better sound that way, anyway.
My new controllers still developed difficulty charging through the USB port, but I got a charger station that uses the other ports for charging, instead, and that's worked perfectly so far.
-
This is actually easy to answer. He felt awful when he was released, so fewer people played him, especially on console.
One of the reasons I hated him when he came out was because his camera was so low. They raised it. They also fixed his controls on console, so he's actually fun to play as and the easiest high-mobility killer to steer.
After the devs fixed him, the number of people who could enjoy playing as him greatly increased.

I think the rift screen is the worst for me. I never experienced anything similar.
One time I had to do something and left it at the rift, my console was like a construction site lmao. I hope I didn't damage it too much by doing that.
We need to be careful with this game. I mean knock on wood I had this ps4 pro since 2017 and besides bad controllers I don't have much problem with the console itself to this day. Dbd destroying it would be a first time that my console gets effed by a bad optimised game.
And I owned every ps console except handhelds and ps5.
Yeah, I have a Battlefront II edition PS4 Pro, and I'd be devastated if it got toasted. I don't even love Nu Star Wars or anything, but I unreasonably love this console. The only problem I ever have with it is this game. (And the controllers being way cheaplier made than their cost would suggest, but that's a separate matter.)

I bet no one would complain if they remove the fog but they obviously don't care since that can't be hard to do. I mean it is just changing loading screen a bit ffs.
Exactly, that's what ticks me off. Simply removing the fog from like the "press x to continue" screen, the offerings screen, that should be simple. The fog/visual effects on the Tome/Rift screens also make my console fans go nuts. The fog isn't needed, it's there for atmosphere. The only good thing about the loud fans is that I can't hear the stupid voice saying "Dead by Daylight" on the opening screen, so at least there's that I guess.
It's not quite as bad on the killer and survivor campfire menu screens, but the fans are usually audible these days. Time has proved that the fan issues will only get worse and not better, so... yeah.
They need to fix their visual effects in the matches, and that I'm sure is a time consuming endeavor, but removing the effects from the menu screens is something that should be easy to do. It definitely doesn't take years to accomplish. It's just that the problem isn't high on their "to do" list, if it's even on the list at all. I'm really not sure BHVR understands the importance here, that this is something they need to do now, not later, because it's part of what's hurting performance and worse it's damaging hardware.

Other day I went into the store to see something after a couple of matches. Was just scrolling on character screen and the game froze my entire ps4. The ONLY times my ps4 has ever fully frozen is with DBD, I've never had it happen with any other game. I managed to shut off my controller this time which seemed to override the freeze, got the "controller disconnected" error message, but I thought I was going to have to manually shut down my ps4. My husband was in the room and said it sounded like my ps4 was screaming from how loud the fans were.
I wish I could just drive the 5 hours up to Montreal with my ps4 and be like "here, use this none dev ps4 to see what your average console player deals with when playing live version of DBD." Honestly if they'd let me I'd do it if it meant helping to get a fix.
Yup, this game is the only one that's caused my PS4 Pro to freeze, and it did it twice. I had to manually turn the console off.
Ya know, as much as I hate EA/DICE and what they did to Battlefront II, at least they fixed their menu loading screen time. It used to take forever to load in because it used holograms, and they changed it, removing the holograms and using normal renders. It didn't look as cool, but it massively improved performance, and that was what really mattered. And their menus weren't even overheating the systems, they were just loading slow.
Can we please at least start by getting the pointless fog off the DbD menu screens??
-
I forget all the time who I've hooked and who I haven't. I like to spread out hooks and stuff, I'm often not trying to kill anyone, so if/when I forget who I've hooked I just go AFK so I can move on to a match where I can once again hook survivors (back before I'd go AFK, I sometimes accidentally killed people just trying to figure out my BBQ 4-stack). I've always wanted an actual hook counter; the one we got is super disappointing and only helpful in telling me if one of the first few survivors I hook reaches second state.
There's no way not having the counter prevents tunneling. If the killer is tunneling someone, they are focused on that person. They don't need some ticks on the screen to tell them who they're already focused on.
-
There's no video recording function within DbD itself. Recording video is a native Switch function. The DbD devs said that the Switch constantly recording video in the background worsened the game's performance, so they disabled it.
I wish they'd given players the option of disabling it rather than just doing it and leaving us with no choice. I haven't seen any improvement in performance; it's only gotten worse.
-
DbD can be very repetitive.
I like doing the challenges, that's what keeps me busy in the game. Without those to work on, I feel... listless. Directionless.
A new mode or something would be nice. A new mechanic. We get new killers, and while they make things a little different for a short amount of time, nothing really changes.
It could be burnout. I get that a lot if I let myself grind too much. Taking a break can help.
-
Name: "The Idol"
I'd make him like a siren with something sound/music based for an attack.
I'm really not sure how you could fix his knives. The recoil is a big problem on console. If his knives work too well he's oppressive in the 1v1, but if his knives don't down survivors in a reasonable amount of time then he's just a worse Huntress. Maybe BHVR needs to focus on what makes him different from other ranged-attack killers, like the piercing knives and the ricochet. Make it so he has a unique strength without needing an add-on. Main Event is a pain in the ass with the way it messes with the edges of the screen and only has a limited time during which it can be activated.
Did I mention he sucks on console? He does. Trying to aim those knives requires a lot of correction and so you're trying to aim and correct for the recoil and track the survivors, and no matter the sensitivity having the needed precision is just... ugh. He feels miserable to play. Even if the survivor is standing still in front of me I have to correct the aim because there's no crosshair. If the survivor is moving, my knives are not going to make contact.
Sorry, this went from suggestions to just flat out complaints. It's hard not to go that route; I like the way he twirls his bat, but playing him as an M1 killer is out of the question since he's slow. I want to twirl the bat, dangit!

When I submitted the ticket to report the issue to BHVR, and the ridiculous part is their reply simply short and simple: "We never heard about this issue before"
People have been reporting on these forums for years that the fans go nuts on the loading screen!! What do the devs think that means? That it's fine? Their fog and smoke effects overheat the console. It's been getting worse and worse over the years.
Sorry about your experience. Damn that annoys the hell outta me. Console players have posted this issue in the Bugs or Feedback section before and gotten no good response about it.

Yup. A fun one I had recently was when I started to hook someone right about the same time another survivor ran over to break the hook. I got stuck in the hooking animation, completely unable to move, until the hook dropped in my face.

Keys take away the killers ability to play the game, they are winning the game and all off a sudden 3 people get out because keys are broken, where is the killers ability to play the game then when the survivors use a broken item? plus there are perks that do the same thing but lets cry victim and that survivors have none off these things to use.
Not only that, some of the survivor mechanics make the game less fun for other survivors.
I'm so sick of the way survivors revere the hatch. I've been in multiple matches lately where after one survivor dies, the other two go immersed and stop participating, hoping everyone else will die so they can get the hatch. We could possibly all escape if they bothered to touch a gen, but they refuse. It's infuriating. One person dies and the match comes to a grinding halt. Woo, what amazing gameplay.

The Twins' design lacks any appeal. I should like them for the hole in Charlotte's chest (I like viscerally grotesque horror), but her puffy face with its weak chin and her chunky frame are ugly on a basic level, and that doesn't make her better as a horror monster, it just makes her generally unappealing.
She's not mutilated enough to have the beauty of a cenobite, and she's not deformed enough to be a mutant hillbilly like from The Hills Have Eyes. Her design is weak.
