I'm so ticked that I can't play the Bloodhunt with my Switch friend.
He bought DbD on Switch because 1. Cross-progression with PC and 2. To play with me. The first seems to be postponed indefinitely and the second is being made impossible for an unknown length of time as of tomorrow. His game is just so much wasted hard drive space for the foreseeable future.
Anyway, the devs aren't keeping the update away from Switch for fun: it's so they can separate the Switch from the other platforms. They can't re-enable DC penalties if one of the platforms is still crashing, and they couldn't get the crashes on Switch fixed, so they're just removing Switch from the cross-play herd. I'll be surprised as hell if DC penalties aren't back for everyone except Switch players tomorrow.
-
I've had multiple matches where one of the zombies just... stands there. She would only move if a survivor got super close, otherwise she stood in place. Not stuck on anything, not walking into a wall, just doing her best impression of a statue.
The zombies are so broken.
-
Not all SWF are toxic. My friend and I are terrible at the game, we just hope to have a little fun in each match before we die (I try to look out for him and protect him, which may come across as me being a jackass I guess, but I mean we're gonna die). And we both play killer more than survivor; if we could play killer together that's what we'd do.
As killer, the thing that ticks me off with SWF is when they pick on the random solo survivor or let them die on their first hook. That's not cool.
Also, matchmaking really needs to be fixed.
-
I can only think of one time I got a flash bang save, and I did it while body blocking the killer at the hook. I find it a lot easier to blind the killer during a chase, I can get the timing for that down. But saves? Oof. I cannot figure out where to drop the dumb thing or the timing for it.
-
I was squirming all over the hatch and I couldn't get anything but the "recover" prompt to appear. Then the killer closed it.
We definitely need more key binding options. I have it so that the button to heal isn't the same as the button to throw down a pallet. It can mess me up sometimes, though, because having the button to throw down a pallet be "square" means that the button to vault a window is "square." But vaulting is only "square" when I play survivor; it's still R1 when I play killer, because that's the better button to use for vaulting. Ugh, I hate that. We should be able to be a lot more specific about our key bindings.
-
Empathy. I feel blind without it.
On all my killers, I run Lightborn, BBQ, Beast of Prey, and Distressing, and I hate taking off any of those perks, I love that build and have been using it for a long time now, but at this point the perk I'm most attached to is Lightborn. I need my Lightborn, I feel anxious starting up a match without it.
-
I personally prefer the pre-Huntress lore that was short; the blurbs reminded me of urban legends. I would've kept all the bios short and used the Tomes to add in the details as well as give more insight into the characters.
But, as is, I don't like the way the post-Huntress lore is written. It's not my kind of storytelling, and I usually don't get through the Tome entries when I try to read them. For some reason, the Dead by Daylight characters are more like dolls than anything to me. Maybe I don't connect with them, or maybe it's because I dress them up in outfits, or maybe it's the lack of a story mode in the game, I really couldn't say.
-
Unless tomorrow's update doesn't fix the big problems, the DC penalties should return tomorrow for every platform except Switch. That's what I expect, anyway.
-
No cross-progression. No performance update. No delaying the Bloodhunt.
Bad enough so many platforms were negatively affected for the Anniversary Event. Fine, okay, I can see why a big event like the anniversary can't be postponed. But now, the other platforms are getting an update while the Switch will continue to be negatively affected during the Bloodhunt. Come on.
-
Yes, I have. Multiple times I'm sure, but I can only think of one off the top of my head.
I was against a Nurse, and I was many meters away from where her Blink landed, and yet she swung and I got hit. She was so far away and maybe even around a corner, I'm not even sure I had LoS on her. I was so shocked I actually stopped running and looked behind me. The Nurse immediately disconnected.
It was the very beginning of the match, I was her first chase. I assume on her screen it looked like she landed on top of me, hit me, and then I suddenly disappeared and was a mile away. So, fair enough.
-
I'm sad about his updated Prestige cosmetics.

Bots are not the same as humans. Even games with bots still punish DCers. If they don't want to play the game they paid for, then they can go play something else instead of ruining everyone else's trials.
Well, maybe if there were bots and DC penalties, BHVR wouldn't feel such an urgency to get the penalties back up even before the performance issues are fixed. Which is the thing I see as the big problem here. Because some players don't want to play the game unless everyone else plays by their own made-up rules, BHVR tried to turn the penalties back on right after the event ended, even though the console issues weren't fixed yet.
-

Who wants to bet what's gonna break tomorrow?
I think it's going to brick Switch consoles and overheat PS4s
Edit
Wow, just checked, they literally tweeted this a few seconds after I hit post
https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1419744872366592004
The update was literally going to brick Switch consoles lmao
They didn't say it'd brick Switch consoles.
The more likely reason is that it just didn't fix the crashes. BHVR wants to re-enable the DC penalties, but if any platform is experiencing crashing they can't. Switch won't have cross-play enabled once the update goes live, so it can be kept separate. The other platforms will have the DC penalties re-enabled while the Switch will not.
That's my theory, anyway. There's no proof, but the fact that they temporarily re-enabled dc penalties the other day suggests they are in a hurry to get them back up.

DCing would still be an issue, with or without bots. DCers shouldn't be let off the hook just because there are bots.
DbD is unstable. It'll always have issues, right now it just has more than usual. Next time there's an update that causes crashes, they'll have to disable DC penalties again, and again there'll be a huge rise in people disconnecting on purpose. Bots would mean no having to disable and re-enable the penalty, and it would mean people who are disconnected because of the game's own shortcomings aren't unfairly punished. Bots would solve some of the other issues like DCing to give a teammate the hatch or to deny the killer a BBQ stack. And killers would no longer be able to DC to deny anything to survivors. That would give players less of a reason to DC.
Bots would mean that those matches where there is a disconnect aren't ruined; penalties don't help those matches, they just make them less common, but that doesn't make someone who waited in a long queue feel any better.
It's better to improve the game than to focus on punishing people. Do I think it's okay to disconnect because you don't like the killer? Hell no. But punishing people for disconnecting doesn't make anyone happier, it doesn't make the people left behind in the match happier. Decent bots could improve the experience, and I think that's important.
-
It's a cool map for a different game but it's a bad map for DbD. Having trouble finding gens? Okay, that can make the match more interesting and give the killer more time. Not being able to find your way to a hooked survivor even though you can see the aura? [BAD WORD] no, that's terrible for gameplay. On any other map, it's a pretty straightforward path to get to an aura you see, but not on RPD. Add in anything that causes Blindness on survivors and they might as well just beg the killer to hook them and end the match already, because [BAD WORD] it why bother.
-
I can almost guarantee BHVR's doing this so they can re-enable DC penalties.
No one ever considers the greater consequences of their actions. If players refrained from disconnecting so much, penalties would not be necessary. Instead, BHVR wants to get those back on as soon as possible (we know this because they tried to re-enable them the other day, even though performance issues weren't fixed and RPD was back in the mix). With the Switch still crashing, though, they can't re-enable DC penalties. If however Switch is kept separate from the rest of the platforms, then the other platforms can have the penalties re-enabled while Switch keeps them off. That's why the Switch isn't getting the 5.1.0 update tomorrow with future fixes to come.
BHVR should've implemented bots instead of the damn DC penalties. If disconnected players were replaced with bots, this wouldn't be an issue.
Ugh, maybe I'm wrong, but this is the reasoning that makes the most sense for postponing the Switch update. Disconnects not only ruin individual matches but now they're screwing over an entire platform. Thank you to everyone who thought it was cool to abuse the lack of a penalty while it was disabled because it obviously wouldn't have a larger impact.
Seriously, the Switch playerbase is not big enough to have cross-play disabled. BHVR could at least postpone the Bloodhunt, Switch users will still experience the poor performance and crashes and they'll have a much harder time getting matches.
Sorry, don't mind my ranting. Like I said, I'm a bit upset about this, and my friend's having his post-Switch-DbD-purchase regrets again, which kinda makes me feel bad since he bought the game just to play it with me.

Thank you very much for this!
am on mobile and was too lazy :)
well.. that’s really a bummer, at least it seems like they are planning something for the rift progress for those affected? Hopefully they will get the update quickly done for Switch, and hopefully the performance actually gets significantly better when the video capture is disabled!
Np.
Hopefully they get it done quickly, but I personally don't have high hopes for that. Man it'd be nice if they surprise me, though.

Well that’s a weird one.. are they giving any reasons why the Switch won’t get the update or an estimated guess on when to expect it?
The following changes have been made to the Nintendo Switch version in connection with the upcoming 5.1.0 update. All of the Nintendo Switch version players will be greatly affected, so we decided to inform you before the update is distributed.
NOTIFICATION OF UPDATE DELIVERY DATE CHANGE
First of all, I'm sorry to inform you. We previously announced that the 5.1.0 update will be available on July 28th, but we have decided to postpone the update distribution for the Nintendo Switch version in order to further resolve the issue that causes the game to crash.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to let you know when the update will be delivered at this time, but we are working hard to ensure that you enjoy the update as soon as possible. We will inform you as soon as the update delivery date is confirmed.
ABOUT THE IMPACT OF CHANGING THE UPDATE DELIVERY DATE
We would like to inform you that the postponement of the 5.1.0 update delivery date for the Nintendo Switch version will have the following effects.
ABOUT CROSS-PLAY
Since the 5.1.0 update is a major update with many changes, cross-play will not be available on the Nintendo Switch version until the 5.1.0 update is delivered, and only Nintendo Switch versions will match each other.
ABOUT ACADEMIC BOOKS / LIFT VIII
Unfortunately, Academic Books / Lift VIII will not be available until the 5.1.0 update is available. Lift VIII will start on July 29th, but since Academic Books / Lift VIII is linked to the 5.1.0 update, it will not be possible to deliver the update. We are aware that the Nintendo Switch version will have a shorter period of enjoyment for Lift VIII, and we will announce more information on this matter as soon as it becomes available.
ABOUT BLOOD HUNT
The Blood Hunt, scheduled for July 30th to August 3rd, will also be available on the Nintendo Switch version as planned.
ABOUT NEW SKINS & DISTRIBUTION ITEMS
New skins and distribution items that will be implemented in the 5.1.0 update (details will be announced at a later date) cannot be purchased or received until the 5.1.0 update is delivered. Distribution items will be picked up at a later date for the Nintendo Switch version.
NOTICE OF END OF VIDEO CAPTURE FUNCTION
Also, at the same time as the 5.1.0 update, we have decided to discontinue the video capture function on the Nintendo Switch version. Until now, the Nintendo Switch version was able to record back 30 seconds by pressing and holding the capture button on the Nintendo Switch, but this function has a heavy load on performance because it constantly records videos on the Nintendo Switch itself. We have decided that we can provide you with a better gaming experience by discontinuing the features and improving the overall performance of the game.
ABOUT THE IMPACT OF THE END OF THE VIDEO CAPTURE FUNCTION
We will inform you of the impact of the end of the video capture function.
SCREENSHOT (STILL IMAGE OF THE SCREEN) ABOUT THE SHOOTING FUNCTION
There is no change in the screenshot shooting function.
ABOUT PLAYER REPORTS
Additional information is required to report some violations. Since the Nintendo Switch version does not have a video capture function, reports from the Nintendo Switch version are valid only for reports from the in-game report function, and reports from the in-game report function even for violations that require the submission of additional information. I will accept it only.
Click here for game rules and reporting methods .
IN CONCLUSION
We apologize to everyone on the Nintendo Switch version for postponing the delivery date of the 5.1.0 update for the Nintendo Switch version. Sorry.
We are working to improve the stability of our games to make your gaming experience as good as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we are working to provide a better gaming experience with the Nintendo Switch version and to deliver the 5.1.0 update to the Nintendo Switch version as soon as possible. I hope you can get it.
That's the translation Google Chrome gives me.
-
And they're disabling the video capture function?! That function works in every other game just fine.
WHERE IS CROSS-PROGRESSION FOR THE SWITCH?!
I cannot properly express how pissed off I am at the moment. Cross-progression for the Switch is quite overdue and this is just compounding that. [BAD WORD].

it’s as of now only my assumption. I haven’t read the tweet as I was too lazy to translate..
Since the 5.1.0 update is a major update with many changes, cross-play will not be available on the Nintendo Switch version until the 5.1.0 update is delivered, and only Nintendo Switch versions will match each other.
That's what Google Translate gave me from the News page, that's why I'm so upset: It's an official statement.

So crossplay for Switch will be deactivated while the versions differ from Switch and the other platforms? Kinda weird that one platform doesn’t get an update 🤔
No no no no no. My friend plays on Switch and I play on PS4. #########?!
Cross-progression isn't even a thing so that he could play on Steam with me. [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] that's not fair.
There aren't that many Switch players, he's going to have a hell of a time playing the Bloodhunt without cross-play enabled.
[BAD WORD] I was looking forward to playing with him some more.

No, we don’t need them back…
I’m enjoying not having to play against spirits or twins or blights with op builds
if you guys don’t want people DCing don’t play unfair killers
or don’t go down quick as a aurvivor
"Unfair killers." I've never found a killer players won't DC against. I've had survivors DC against permanently uncloaked Wraith.
During the event I played Blight with Lightborn, Beast of Prey, BBQ, and Distressing. Survivors disconnected when they couldn't blind me. Survivors disconnected on their first down, even when they were the fourth to get hooked, even though I chased them like an M1 killer rather than using his power.
If I don't want people DCing, what's the actual way to avoid it? Because "don't play unfair killers" doesn't seem to be the answer. I often forget to use my power (what easier match do the survivors think they can get? is there something easier to go against than a purely M1 killer??), and I'll still get disconnects.
-
If you want to avoid the killer, Spine Chill and Urban Evasion will help keep you unseen. Iron Will has helped me disappear mid-chase.
If you want to get better in chases and improve your map awareness, Windows of Opportunity is pretty amazing.

There is something that concerns me. If let’s say most of the bugs get fixed is it possible they could comeback in future DLCS? What if the game does get to a point to where it can’t run on last gen console or lower end PC??
The code, the way the game functions, is not optimized. It needs to be torn apart and re-coded. It works on the new consoles because they can brute force their spaghetti code. There may be things BHVR can do to make the game run better as is, but with each new chapter they will be adding to overstuffed unoptimized code, and there's only so much any system can take. Maybe they're hoping that by the time it gets that bad the old consoles will truly be dead. Not sure what their plans would be for the Switch, though, since that is Nintendo's newest system and there's no replacement forthcoming.
It would be nice if they actually rewrite the code, but I don't see it happening. It's a huge task and I doubt they'd consider it worth spending the time and money to do.
I'm just talking in terms of performance. When it comes to the game's bugs, like all the audio issues that plague DbD, those seem to get fixed and reintroduced constantly.
-
Huh, whenever the map crashes for me I get a blue screen or the game completely freezes. The player level update error is usually just something that happens at the end of a regular match because I dunno reasons.
My matches on this map haven't been great as either survivor or killer. I've tried learning the map by messing around in Custom Matches, but my sense of direction is dog[BAD WORD], I'd get lost in my own house if it had more than 5 rooms.
-
Sounds like the issue is with the Steam Deck's OS/Proton and EAC, which is something that'll have to be fixed on Steam's/EAC's end. The only way the game developers could fix this issue would probably be to change the games to work without EAC, and I don't see that as being a good solution.

The reason there's no competition to DbD is simply because the genre isn't popular. We're not talking about Battle Royals. Asymetrical games aren't that popular. DbD has survived because of the Licenses. You honestly think DbD would Survive without Licenses by releasing killers that were bugged or extremely inneficient like they did in the 3 previous chapters? No they wouldn't.In fact without the Halloween Chapter and Myers there would be no DbD.
^ Pretty much this. The idea of an asymmetrical game is an interesting one, but it's nearly impossible to balance in such a way that both sides are happy. In a 1v4, the 1 needs to be as strong as the 4 combined. Unfortunately, those 4 become very unhappy in 1v1 situations because they are individually weaker. DbD's survival is basically a fluke, and part of the reason for that fluke is that the game has famous licenses.
The asymmetrical genre is never going to be hugely popular. DbD doesn't have a lot of competition because there's not a huge market. A new game will have to be so good that it takes away DbD's playerbase, but people have already put the time and money into DbD so any game attempting to do that is facing a huge uphill battle. The new game won't have the licenses and huge content library DbD has, so what will it have to offer that's so damn good players will leave DbD for it?

Eh, I tried.

I didn't like Blight when he first came out. His POV was too low, it was awful. His controls felt pretty crappy on console, too.
After his POV was raised and his controls adjusted, he feels pretty good to play as. The map mobility is awesome. His biggest problems are sliding off the environment and not having things to bump off of on corn maps.
-
I wish they would get rid of the fog offerings. Their fog makes my PS4 sound like a jet engine, and it gets worse with every update.

You are not getting my point
I am not defending this killer in any way or form.
Just want to let it know that this is grieving and not holding the game hostage.
So that people who get slugged a bit won't start sending fake holding the game hostage reports.
Stealing is a crime. But if you call it murder and the police has to handle every shoplifter as a murderer then the real murderers are just out there longer or won't get caught at all.
There is a reason they have to put time effort and resources into making an automated report system
There's a huge, obvious difference between stealing and murder. The difference here between whether or not this was griefing or holding the game hostage is minimal at best.
If two survivors are left on the map, and they stealth around for an extended amount of time not touching gens, the devs have stated that those survivors are holding the game hostage. The survivors are stopping the killer from completing his objective while at the same time refusing to do their own, preventing the game from proceeding. The killer could spend an ungodly amount of time searching the entire map for those survivors with no clue where they might be, the killer is not necessarily forced to disconnect to end the match, but the game could go on for an unreasonable amount of time.
In the original poster's scenario, the killer is not allowing the survivors to complete their objective while also refusing to complete his own, not giving them a chance to bleed out or die on the hook. If the survivors really try, they don't have to disconnect and may be able to complete the gens, but the match could go on for an unreasonable amount of time. The difference between this scenario and the above scenario is negligible.
-
Is it people saying this is holding the game "hostage" that is creating this argument here? Is that the problem?
Could everyone at least agree this probably counts as griefing, which is a reportable offense? Holding the game hostage is a type of griefing, but it's not the only type. What the killer did in this situation serves no purpose other than to drag the game out and make the players miserable. The killer was hindering the survivors from completing their goal, the killer was not attempting to complete his own goal, and the combination of these two things means the killer was causing the game to go on for an excessive amount of time.
I'm amazed no one has tagged @MandyTalk to come in here and say whether or not this incident is reportable/bannable. And if the killer did break the rules, what can a person do to report it if the killer's name was not shown at the end of the match? Because that's an important part of the story: the match details didn't show the killer's name. What is a person supposed to do in that situation?

'If the killer didn't let gens get done' what? So the Killer is now obligated to give Survivors gens or it's 'holding the game hostage'? 😂
That's not what I said. I said the killer didn't kill them and didn't let gens get done, giving the survivors no way to leave the match.
Anyway, the correct course of action is to report the killer in-game and submit video evidence. What the killer did is at least questionable, and it's up to the devs/managers/whatever to decide whether or not the player broke the rules. It's not up to us.
-
If the killer didn't let gens get done, didn't let survivors bleed out, and didn't hook survivors to attempt to kill them, then the killer was holding the game hostage. An hour is a ridiculously long time, I'm surprised you held out that long.
Reporting the incident requires an in-game report and also submitting a ticket with video evidence.
-
I feel a need to finish the challenges, and I like earning Bloodpoints for them. I cycle the same Auric Cells through every Rift, and I'll only purchase it if I reach the end. I hate the way the lore is written, so I don't bother with that. But yeah, the challenges give me something to do in the game, a goal that feels concrete, and I like that.
-
They need to replace players who disconnect with bots. Back in the day, they said they were looking into disconnected survivors leaving behind a "husk," but now that they're actually adding bots to the game they should make use of them.

Yup. I discovered this when I got RPD and the game crashed while I was Rushing as Blight. Got back on and boom, DC penalty. They burned three cakes that match, too, so... yay, that doesn't feel like insult to injury or anything at all.
-
I play survivor, I get tunneled out first thing.
I play killer, I get survivors who don't want to farm and rush through gens. I had a crapton of DCs today; either I be totally friendly and never touch anyone or I try to get hooks and they DC. Man, when I was survivor I was so happy to get a non-lethal killer, I'd be running up to the hooks with my friend and we'd be pointing and yay! Bloodpoints. That happened like... I dunno, three times or something. And we played for days.
Karma's a lie, I never get survivors like me as killer or killers like me as survivor.
Cakes need a stipulation on them: if the player who burned it earns fewer than 15k Bloodpoints, no one gets the multiplier and the cake returns to the player's inventory. A few times I accidentally killed someone who burned a cake and I felt really bad about it, the lack of real hook counters for killers is still total BS.

It seems to me like you're insisting it be "easier" when that map it's self is supposed to be a bit of a puzzle. It's from RE
Hmm? I never said anything about wanting it to be easier. I was just commenting that the matches didn't go well: I stumbled across survivors in random areas and then they died on their first hooks. The matches weren't very fun or interactive.
-
I was using Prove Thyself to help earn points during the event. That and WGLF. People don't usually run Prove Thyself because it's more efficient to split up on gens.
-
Yeah, my friend recently got the game on Switch and didn't have those cosmetics unlocked, either. He's going to submit a support ticket about it at some point. So many other problems with console right now it hasn't been a priority.
-
I try to find and hook everyone in a match, but sometimes I just can't find them. Every once in a while the survivors will do something to help me get my last BBQ stack (forever grateful to that Meg who stopped opening the exit gate and teabagged as the Claudette attempted to run out lol), but what I see more often is three survivors throwing themselves in front of me saving someone who had three crows over their head. Congrats, you guys did the work and he gets a free 5k for escaping.
Killers aren't omniscient, they don't know every detail of what's going on in a match. Unless I'm camping the hook, I don't know who made the hook saves. I don't know who completed the gens or did the heals.
Anyway, if I can't find a survivor, and none of the other survivors "accidentally" help me find that survivor, then... I guess that last survivor doesn't get found.
-
During the event, more people than usual were trying to body block me to the hook, so I got a lot of use out of Agitation and Starstruck. Not sure if that'll continue, though.
