  • I'd say "Noooo! How am I going to get my survivor crowns?!" but I haven't actually been able to escape with one, anyway, and when I finally did yesterday they didn't even unlock.

But goddamn, they have a hella short anniversary event with a crapton of characters who need the cosmetic unlocked individually, and their servers suddenly keep going to crap. BHVR hasn't at all made this event more painful than it needs to be.

  • Pineapple on pizza is the best thing ever. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ๏ปฟ๐Ÿ•๏ปฟ๐Ÿ๏ปฟ๐Ÿ•๏ปฟ๐Ÿ

  • I was getting survivor matches instantly and now suddenly I can't get one at all. NA region on Nintendo Switch.

  • He causes performance issues for a lot of people. The game will drop frames when he takes his tentacle out, making it damn near impossible to use his power. The zombies get stuck on the environment a lot, too, so they don't make up for stuttering and frame drops. On top of all that, he doesn't have a crown to unlock, so there's no time-limited thing pushing him to be used right now.

  • It's not properly unlocking the crowns as survivor on Switch.

Yesterday, I escaped with a crown as both Meg and Jake. Neither of them have crowns, though.

  • Getting crowns has been impossible. I actually finally managed to escape with two crowns tonight... and they didn't unlock.

I'm gonna cry for real, man, that sucks. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  • Yeah, I'm suddenly not getting matches. It was fine today up until like half an hour ago and now I can't get a match as survivor. (cross play is on)

But not everyone in real life is attractive. So not everyone in DBD needs to be either. These are supposed to be everyday people, not models.

I don't expect everyone in DbD to be attractive, but Kate's a singer, it makes sense for her to be attractive, and a lot of people who main her chose her because they find her attractive. It sucks for BHVR to change that after people have put time and money into her. Yes, it's BHVR's right to change her, but it still sucks.

Anyway, real life is fine and all, but when I'm playing a video game I'm going to choose to look at an attractive person over an unattractive one. Increasing happiness by looking at visually appealing and pleasant images is natural. But beyond that I still say more so than any other character Kate should be attractive given her backstory.

  • I was the same way at first, but I got over it. I try to go for the cheapest things on the Bloodweb when prestiging, and I'll usually use any personal 100% BP bonus offerings (but not necessarily BPS, they're so unlucky that I often just trash 'em). I just consider the lost stuff as part of the cost.

Well it technically is an improvement. She looks more realistic and clean. With nice animations. Sure you can argue she isn't as attractive, but being "more or less pretty" can't be the argument for an improvement. Beauty is subjective.

Facial attractiveness is less subjective than you think.

  • I'm with you, the new Kate is so ugly.

I've always been sad about Kate since they changed her hair and P3 head, but now rather than bringing back some of what made her original design good they've gone and made her worse. They can see how she looks, I don't get why they'd feel that this update to her is an improvement.

Even with the graphic updates it still looks like a PS3 game.

On the Switch it now looks like a PS2 game when it's on the TV screen, but the performance is still bad with its low framerate and stutters. I think it performs better in handheld mode, but the tradeoff is it's so dark I can't see anything (and I also suck with the JoyCons, but that's a me thing).

God I've been wishing I could use DS, but I have trouble with that skill check on a normal day and between console performance issues and now inconsistent skill check speeds and controller lag... [[sigh]] I'm wasting two perk slots on Technician and Bite the Bullet just because I'm having so much trouble hitting skill checks.

And another huge problem is the amount of breathtakingly sweaty survivors who are driving this behaviour. I played 5 killer trials last night and the longest lasted a little over 5 minutes. Why burn 4 cakes if you're just going to slam gens and leave? It makes no sense.

    ^ This.

I find farming boring, and I don't expect every group to want to farm, but my ability to play on the Switch is very limited and unfortunately I seem to get no groups who will farm. If they remain in LoS long enough to realize I'm friendly, they just hop back on the gen. No, I don't motion at the gen, it's just the only thing they want to do. They don't even seem to want to stun me with pallets, and they certainly don't offer to do hooks. If I hit them, they run to the other side of the map, and I'm too blind to chase them that far.

I'm having a lot of matches where the survivor with the highest amount of base BP is under 11k. That's with escaping. How are so many survivors happy with that??

  • ... I'm grinding during this event earning BP so I can unlock teachables and level up my desired survivor(s)... I can't run perks I don't have, yet. As I level up a character, they're the one with the cakes, so it's either play as them and use the cakes or play as someone with better perks but then I don't have any cakes to use... I doubt I'm the only person facing this dilemma.

Were this a straight-up Double BP event, playing survivor would be a lot less frustrating.

  • @Digwiid said:

Darkness Among Us was pretty bad with launch Legion and Ormond literally hard crashing consoles, and the map even stayed up for a while. This chapter isn't that bad in comparison since personally i can avoid the performance issues mostly by being on a next gen console.

And i see people mention tons of bugs everytime but no one ever mentions what bugs lol. Been playing since the chapter dropped and throughout the anniversary event and i haven't seen a single of these huge quantities of bugs people keep mentioning. Are we counting lag or de-sync into bug territory now? Or zombie AI derping out during a game? I legit have no idea what bugs are we talking about. The ONE bug i did notice was during the start of the event where the game would boot you out if you tried spending the 500k BP but that got solved pretty quickly if i recall. Survivors being silent on the ground have been in the game before the RE chapter so it wasn't part of it.

"This chapter isn't that bad in comparison since personally i can avoid the performance issues mostly by being on a next gen console."

"personally i can avoid the performance issues mostly by being on a next gen console"

This is the disconnect between your experience and others' experiences. Those who cannot play on a next gen console cannot avoid the performance issues.

The game's performance got much, much worse for a lot of people with the RE chapter. The game stutters constantly, frames drop like mad, areas of the map flash white (or the entire screen flashes in some cases), and it likes to crash on the Switch. The RPD map was disabled for a while because it was causing systems to crash. A lot of people use the collective term "bugs" to refer to these issues because it's easier than writing them out and specifying that in this case they're not necessarily talking about pre-RE performance issues but the new issues brought on with the RE chapter.

  • It's poor game design that a player can be rewarded for not actively working on the objective.

DbD needs more structure. It needs to push players to participate. Player agency doesn't need to be taken away, but the gameplay should not be as open as it is. Survivors hiding, doing nothing, and waiting for a magic escape to pop up at their feet is not healthy gameplay. Yes, there needs to be some way for a match to end that doesn't take away the final survivor's chance of escaping, but DbD needs a more creative and gameplay-enhancing solution than the current hatch mechanic.

Ngl, after I said that I've now heard of 2 crashes that have happened on Switch. I play on switch and I was in a round where someone crashed at the end of the game tonight.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. I didn't get the game on Switch until after the RE chapter was released, so I don't know if this is a long-standing issue or not. I hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later, though. It doesn't happen often, but when it does happen it really sucks.

  • The trap timer does not go down while on the hook, while in the dying state, or while in a chase. Attempting to leave through the exit gate will detonate the trap unless the killer carries them through. It is the second set of columns on normal exit gates that marks the point at which the trap will detonate; if you carry a survivor past that point then they can escape the trial just fine. Survivors can also escape through the hatch with an activated RBT.

This is what the trap detonating looks like, if that's what you're trying to see:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZktQWmo7IHk

For the most part, the traps really aren't meant to detonate. The traps slow the game down as survivors run from Jigsaw box to Jigsaw box looking for the key instead of working on gens.

Oh I know, that's why I mentioned the other crazy coincidences before I got to the reference.

    God I love Nicholas Cage

If we ever do get Candyman, I so hope it's the Tony Todd version, because with a new movie coming out it's very likely we'd get the new version, just like with Freddy. I need me my Tony Todd. His appearance in Hatchet had me rolling.

Oh, and I've gotten the "Not the bees!" quote in English, so it's not just in the German version. The RNG of the quotes has me seeing some constantly and others hardly ever.

    ๐Ÿ๏ปฟ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Edit: I need more sleep. Tony Todd is the only Candyman, figuratively and literally.

Yeah, I think the dc penalty needs to come back now. I haven't heard of any crashes as of lately, only survivors and killers disconnecting on purpose so they don't have to play.

Really? I still crash on the Switch. It loves to do that at the end of the game, where it hurts no one but me and that'd be doubly so if the DC penalties were active because the penalties don't take context like crashes or the match being essentially over into account.

  • Plenty of times today, DS would've been super handy.

Unfortunately, the whole point of this event is to earn Bloodpoints to level up characters and unlock teachables... DS is one of the teachables I haven't unlocked, yet. :( But, anyway, DS is a great perk if you find yourself getting downed underneath the hook a lot due to bad saves.

  • If someone dies on their first hook because their teammates don't feel like saving them or is tunneled out before a single gen is done, they're the one who burned a double-Bloodpoints-for-all offering.

(Mostly joking, though it does seem to be a universal truth.)

  • Dead by Daylight just came out on the Switch at about the end of 2019. It hasn't even been two years yet. Or are you lumping the Switch in with the other next gen consoles, since Nintendo is nowhere near about to release another console yet?

Less than two years, there's no new Nintendo console in the near future, and it runs terrible on Switch, just like on PS4 and Xbox One.

The devs said they'd get this working on console, they've continued to sell their game and all the new DLC on these consoles, so they need to get it working.

  • I can't find my way around!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ The random blighted areas look out of place, the graphics/textures look unfinished, and it's a damn maze but there's no mini-map so teammates die because I don't know how to get to them.

  • Just crashed as survivor during the end of the match on Switch. I hate when that happens, going through the entire match just to lose everything.

I was running to open the door while the killer was busy elsewhere, too. I'm sorry, teammates, it wasn't on purpose :(

And if you take away Killer player's choice in how they play, or force mechanics on them that could cost them a full kill or the game; you can see Survivor queue times start to climb as Killers quit.

No one wants to play a game where the game takes away your choice, then makes you lose for it. Hence why there are no 'punishments' or 'fixes' for camping/tunneling/slugging; anything put in place would either be abused (See; old anti-camping mechanic), or remove player agency.

And no; DS should not be base kit. Hell freaking no do I want a new 4 perk meta plus DS in every match. That would be so broken it's not funny.

And guess why Kindred is not base kit? Because it would 100% negate Insidious. You can't make a perk basekit that hard counters another perk.

Just because Survivors have this idea in their head that they get to choose how Killers play, does not mean they actually get to choose how Killers play. They don't pick Killer perks, Killers, or tactics. Any more than Killers pick Survivor perks or tactics.

This is the only game, in my nearly 40 years of gaming, where I've ever seen one side so utterly convinced that they can dictate the actions of their opponent, and demanded it from the devs.

What the game needs is for the very possibility of tunneling, camping, and slugging to be removed while adding more objectives and slowing down matches with built-in gameplay rather than putting the overwhelming onus of it on killers.

Player agency is well and good up to a point, but other games I've played balance that with making sure players have fun. In DbD, whichever side you play, bad matches are frustrating and miserable in a way I've never experienced in other games.

People on this forum are ridiculous, asking players to change their ways, asking devs to ban and punish certain playstyles. That's not how a game is made better. We look like angry children lashing out at each other, of course the devs don't take any of it seriously even though it's a symptom of a big problem in their game.

Personally, I find hooking boring. I'd much prefer kill animations and then survivors are able to revive each other or something. But maybe that's just me. I'd like more horror, less gen-repair sim, less watching other people play while I slowly die on the sidelines, less stress because three gens pop while I'm in my first chase.

No one designing a game should ever have said "wow, tunneling, slugging, and camping, these sound like super fun mechanics that everyone will enjoy!" Yet they stay in the game because they're already here and it's easier on the devs than coming up with something better, and people defend those tactics because they're necessary in the game's current state, but the game's current state isn't good.

I'm talking into a void, though. I don't mean you, personally, I mean that changing the game to make it a fun experience would require so much change that it'll never happen, and I know that, my posts are futile. But all these posts demanding players change aren't just futile, they're unhealthy for the community, they perpetuate the survivor vs killer attitude that helps make bad matches such a negative experience, so I'll keep talking to the void.

  • @tester said:

I get the same in almost every game in purple ranks. Camping and tunneling non stop. I stopped bringing cakes because it's just a waste at this point. Long killer queues are a good indicator where this game is headed. If camping as a minimum is not addressed killer queues are going to go into half an hour territory. There is no reason DS and Kindred shouldn't be base kit. And I'm saying it as killer main who switched to survivor due to wanting to play instead of waiting for lobby.

I'm hating being tunneled and slugged constantly as survivor, too, but there are multiple factors at work screwing up the queue. Killers make more BP than survivors in the average match, so during BP events a lot of survivors switch to playing killer. Every BP event since I started playing in 2018, the killer queue is longer than normal. Also, because killers don't have event items, killers get waaaaay more cakes on their Bloodwebs.

And finally, PC has always had a large number of killers; the huge number of survivors is from console. However, right now console players are experiencing debilitating performance problems that have many of them unable to play the game. Fewer console players means disproportionately fewer survivor players as opposed to fewer killer players. That started when the RE chapter went live and has gotten worse with each hotfix.

  • It's my most used perk. I feel blind without it.

  • There's no "killer community." There's no "survivor community." This game is not made up of two hive minds working against each other. There's a vicious cycle in this game where when someone has a bad match they then take it out on their opponent(s) in the next match, and even when they're not doing that and they just play to win often the other side has a miserable time because the game doesn't want people to play efficiently (this is obvious from the point systems) but it unfortunately still allows it.

The problem is that the game is poorly designed and it encourages or even pushes people into playing in a way that's not fun for the other side. You cannot convince players to change. For one thing, most players aren't even on these forums. If you want change, stop the us vs them thing and start telling the devs to drop their reverence for player agency and to put players' fun first. You cannot expect players to act as entertainers and make sure everyone else is having fun; people play for themselves. It is the game's job to make sure everyone is having fun, and given the number of complaints on this forum I'd say the devs have failed to design a game that looks out for its players and their fun.

The devs seem to hope their point systems will act as a band-aid fix and keep matches enjoyably interactive, but both sides would have to agree to that beforehand for it to work. Even if both sides in a match would prefer to play in a more laid-back manner, they can't count on their opposition to feel the same way, and in this game even just one mistake can be extremely costly.

Will the PTB 5.0.0 feedback section ever go public again? One of the developers mentioned that they tried as many as four zombies on a map, but forum users don't have access to that anymore, and it's a shame that there are some interesting comments about the process behind Nemesis that now can't be reached.

  • I'd love to see more than two zombies on the bigger maps.

Unfortunately, the devs said anything more than two zombies would tank the game's performance.

  • Killers are not here to make sure survivors have fun. Survivors are not here to make sure killers have fun.

The game design is what's supposed to make sure both sides have fun. It massively fails on that front.

I've played other games where I did poorly, inexperienced or not, but only in DbD do bad matches feel so absolutely frustrating and miserable. I know what happens in matches isn't personal, but it feels personal in the moment. (No, I've never messaged other players, though I'll curse at the TV plenty.) It sucks to end matches with practically no BP feeling like you didn't get a chance to participate.

Given that, it's not surprising at all that people lash out. The unfortunate part is that they lash out at other players rather than at the company who designed their product to encourage these negative experiences. The us vs them mentality is also counterproductive, because the two sides keep sniping at each other "don't play that way, I don't like it!" (as if killers or survivors are a hive mind) instead of saying the right things (meaning not proposing solutions that include the words "ban" or "punish") to the devs, the people who can actually improve DbD.

The game needs changes, because something should try to ensure both sides have fun. It won't be the playersโ€”DbD's not a job and people don't get paid to play itโ€”so it needs to be the game itself.

I just can't justify spending that amount of money just to make a game functional nor do I think people should have to resort to it either.

No disrespect meqnt either btw I'm super happy this has improved things for you tho ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ’•

I don't know if it'll help the base PS4. I was actually talking about that with someone else in another thread. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2335287/#Comment_2335287

I agree that people shouldn't have to spend that much money to get a game to run properly. BHVR continues to sell the game and all the DLC on console, so it should all work on console.

No disrespect taken. I've actually been constantly having to delete stuff off my PS4's hard drive every time there's an update, since 100 GB free isn't enough to install an 800 MB update for DbD, so I needed to do something. Getting an SSD instead of an HDD just means I sacrificed TBs for speed.

I do worry that every update BHVR releases will just make the game run worse and worse. If they continue to build on the archaic mess that is DbD without optimizing it, I think even the best hardware will be no match for their ever-worsening spaghetti code.

Didn't watch the whole games, only parts of last two videos to compare nemesis tentacle.

That is actually a big difference from what I have seen. Are survivor games like that too? You don't have to post em we believe you.

Didn't expect this much of a difference, thanks for posting. I won't buy ssd just for this game tho.

There was also a big difference in survivor matches. I was actually going to post videos anyway, so here you go.

This is before the SSD (killer: Doc):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDyKIQTj8tY

This match is after moving DbD to the SSD (killer: Nemesis):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq5gMfVRAb4

I'm not sure if that string of great skill checks in the second video is because the game is running better or if it was just a fluke.

And I don't blame you for not wanting to go out and get an SSD. The one I got was $120 for 1TB (on sale for $20 off at Best Buy, woo), it's not a small purchase, and it should not be necessary. BHVR needs to fix/optimize their game, it did not run this poorly before the RE chapter.

EDIT: Here are a couple clips I posted previously of pre-SSD console survivor life in case you missed them, these are peachy: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2329939#Comment_2329939

  • At first I dealt with it by killing zombies as Nemesis or dying a lot as survivor. Now I put the game on an SSD and I'm enjoying a much smoother ride. Don't get me wrong, though, I'm pissed that I was desperate enough to go to Best Buy and purchase an SSD. BHVR needs to be compensating me with Auric Cells for this purchase. Not cool, guys, get this game freakin' fixed.

@eloise I just noticed, thanks to @TragicSolitude that a SSD might REALLY help, even if its normally only for loading times.

The reason for it is the theory why the game is so laggy.

If you load into a game, it ALWAYS loads every killer assets and powers etc in the game, even if you dont use them.

Same goes for every survivor, voices etc.

Since the SSD massively shortens loading times, this might really could help fixing FPS problems since it doesnt need ages to load and find this stuff every time again.

@MandyTalk Do you think you could ask the devs about that?

    @eloise @OniWantsYourMacaroni Here's a link to some before and after videos I posted: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2335065/#Comment_2335065

Can you upload a game or two on youtube? I already have your channel, but others might want to see the difference too. If it is not too much to ask of course.

Sure. Here are some Nemesis clips from before I got the SSD. I'm on a PlayStation 4 Pro.

    This one's a beaut:

Rather than a clip, this is a few minutes long so you can see how this isn't a once-a-match occurrence, this happens often and it's painful:

Now, here's a full match after I moved the game to a Samsung Portable SSD T5 1TB:

There are literally only a couple places where the frames drop. The difference is night and day.

  • I hate to say it, but I went to Best Buy today and bought a SSD to improve performance on my PS4 Pro. Yes, it seems to work, the game is much smoother now. I'm justifying it with the hope that the Warhammer games' performance will also improve some, since those can turn into slideshows at times (I haven't tested it out yet). DbD is still hurt by loud fans, occasional frame drops, and that damn white flickering. The devs need to fix this nonsense.

  • I went out today and bought a Samsung T5 SSD at Best Buy. I moved DbD and two Warhammer games onto it. DbD is running soooo much smoother now. I haven't tested the Warhammer games, yet, I'll find out if those see any improvement later.

Am I happy about having to buy the SSD? No. But the game isn't stuttering and dropping frames for every little thing like it was before, so that's good. The devs still need to optimize their damn game, though. Their fog effects turn the fan into a jet engine (especially on the menu screens, which is just ridiculous, they're menu screens), the performance could still be improved, and the map flashes white constantly.
